Right, why don't we keep our superstars? Why are our superstars looked at as pawns versus actually building around some of these guys, And isn't there a little bit of marketability to having one or two players that are homegrown superstars stick around and not looking like the Rays where there's two year turn.

The Giant said will take the entire contract mid season, which is hard to convince many owners to do in the middle of a year. They like to set their budgets. And they did give them four players. I don't know if one's really much of a prospect. I don't know what is BeO. Is that his just relative somebody? But anyway, the other two should be pitchers that are useful at some point this season. I mean, Nicks has right toe inflammation, he's on the IL. He didn't pitch well while he was there, but he'll probably come back, I guess as a reliever. Kyle Harrison they optioned right away. He's like a four and a half RA and four starts in four relief appearances after he was called up early May. But let's get back to the point here. Kratz top ten bat also started over nineteen with fifteen strikeouts and still has a nine oh five OPS one for nine ops plus. He is the best designated hitter in the American League. He is the best hitter on the team and mid season, after winning five games in a row, you decided now had to be the time. You're a better team now without him and with that trade package than this year. I get it that it's a long term thing. My thing is, if the Giants loved him so much and other teams did too, you could have pulled this off in the offseason. Is there risk of injury and underperformance in the second half, sure, but the Giants would have made a move like this in the offseason, and then the Red Sox can say, hey, two hundred thirty five million dollars saved over eight and a half years, but we resigned Bragman or we signed someone else, so we're good. You can't do that mid season. So they just lost their best player for the rest of the year. That's a mini punt.

And he was like, nah, not right now. I'm not that good of a glove like you said. So we want to talk in the off season about this. Cool, but right now I'm your best hitter. Maybe we should just leave it like this. That's the entire timeline. And like we talked about earlier, Superstar has a line. Most superstars would be kind of pissed about that communication process. Showing up to spring training and then just being like, throw your glove away, you suck on defense. That is exactly what happened. Yeah, everyone, every player has an ego. You can't tell me that that doesn't piss someone off. And again, I'm not saying he's completely right here, because there are many players that still say screw it and say I'm gonna play whatever I need to win because I'm locked up for the long term. But he was pissed and so they broke up. But the Red Sox are worse. Devers had just talked to the media us there yesterday for the first time in like a month. In the moment, shocked. Then when you think back about, you know, what the last four or five six months have been like with him, it's less shocking, a lot less shocking. And it was headed toward this messy divorce, and I think, you know, maybe even a little worse than any of us knew. But when you see that notification, when you see his car getting packed up at Fenway, the land Rover sitting there. I was there yesterday, went back to the ballpark to see that, it's jarring. It's crazy. And to think that, you know, tonight Alex Gore has to write out a lineup that doesn't have him in it for the first time a very long time. It's a big deal. The outrage around here is ben Amenz. You can imagine that. You know, I've covered a lot of big moves and big things. Mookie getting traded is the ender leaving Firings Hirings?

Number one, immensely talented, multi time All Star, speaks for itself, one of the best hitters in baseball, and I got who I think is underrated, walking and play every day. You know, he's the extra bass, the slug, the exit vla, what he means to a line up. He's amazing and I think they gave him that deal in part because of that, but also in part because Mooki had just left and they had to trade him. Xander had, you know, just been the extension talks broke down. He went to San Diego. They need to spend on someone, and they couldn't let a third one get away. The fan pressure was too much, and then once that happened, Devers kept producing. I think there were little things along the way, and we reported this right along. This is you know, Twitter accuses the beat of all smear campaign because he's gone. We've said this the whole time. There's been things like appearances and media obligations and and fan meet and greets and commercials and sponsorship stuff that the Red Sox asked Evers to do, and he basically told them what he said. And a very viral clip with the former hitting coach Tim Hyers, they pay me good. I hit home runs and that's all he wanted to do. He just wanted to, you know, play baseball. He didn't want to do the rest of it, and I think the Red Sox thought he was going to do a little bit more of the rest of it. I think there was a little bit of frustration around that. I think he was a little bit of a bit frustrated dating back with those spring training comments from last year that they didn't put a better team around him. But that's like a one out of ten on the scale of irritation with each other, and it got ratcheted up to a ten. I think, you know, maybe not immediately with the Bregmant thing. I think he was mad about. You know, from what we've heard in the last couple of days or the last twenty four hours, it feels like a week he feels like he was you know, scapegoaded for their problems this year when it's you know, a dysfunctional roster. He feels like the communication was disorganized and disjointed, and he felt like the decision makers on the team we're telling him different things. Whether that speaks to a schism between you know, coaching staff, in front office or different voices, ownership, whatever, I don't know. That's just how he feels about it. And by the time Cassis got hurt and they asked him to play first base, I think he looked at them and said, like, are you guys really doing this again? You're really going to try to you know, we have a good thing going now, I'm d h and I'm hitting, well, are we really doing this again? And I think, you know, as I've said now for weeks, as we've talked on here and everywhere else about it, Like I think it's a nuanced situation. I think you can blame Devers for at the end of the day, being a team employee, he should, you know, do what was asked. You know, a j and Eric, you guys played like you can you know, say like, hey, if your team asked you to do something. It's a lot of guys that would say, you do it, you know, jump how high?

So I think both sides, you know, are at fault here. But it's a messy divorce. That's the headline here. It's not who they got back. It's not the money. It's at this point in time, you know, the sides couldn't move on together and it was unsalvageable that way.

And once Devers didn't respond to that, I think from an ownership level down, they decided we're going to be open to a path forward that doesn't include Raphael Devers. And whether that path took you know, a year, whether it took months, whether it took you know, four or five weeks like it did, they were going to quietly explore it. I think once San Francisco said we'll take on the rest of the deal, they begin to really really explore it. I think the Red Sox were a little surprised that a team was willing to take on the rest of the contract because it is a big one, as talented as Devers is, and so you know, this stuff all happened really fast, and you know, Devers never got to the point where he demanded a trade and went in and said you need to trade me right now. You know the semantics of that, it was he opened to one, I believe. So is he crying in the fetal position because the Red Sox traded him last night? I don't think so. I think he's okay, and you know, maybe excited about a new opportunity, still processing it and we'll probably be in the lineup tomorrow against the Guardians. It's just, you know, I think there is blame to go around right now. You know, the fans look at Breslo as the target. You know, Cora's messaging on this wasn't perfect. And I think at the end of the day, the Red Sox also made a mistake by I think, maybe not overplaying their hand, but not like really grasping what Raffi's reaction to all this would be. I think they went into it with the attitude of, all right, well, even if we signed Bregman, what's he gonna do? Is he gonna retire, is he gonna quit? Is he gonna let us suspend him?

Harrison, I think it's probably the big picture guy, the guy that they really, you know, want a twenty three year old arm Tibbs is the guy who you know, they can maybe build around and as a double A guy they don't have a ton of prospects now because they're all the big leagues, So you know, I think that is there's upside, especially with Harrison and Tibbs. To me, you know, people forget that the package is going to be significantly lessened by the fact that San Francisco took on the whole deal. If the Red Sox are taking on half that deal, you're getting better players back. And so the Red Sox look at you know, the trade value if you want to use the charts or the apps or whatever, of that two hundred and fifty some odd million as like the biggest piece of it. The fact they are able to get players is part of it. Too, and I do think that they like Harrison. I think they like Hicks and Tibbs and the boh they got. If you look at what their lineup's going to be the next few weeks without Alex Bregman answer the first part of your question, I mean, it's it's really really, really really young. You have four rookie who are probably going to be starting every day now. Narvaia's has been good, and then the big three of Campbell, Anthony and Meyer, who are all super young, taking their lumps, having good moments here and there that we've seen, and then you know, Duran obviously still in the mix. They're gonna have probably have a bray you come back Friday in San Francisco, which will be a secondary story that day at Oracle Park. But that Ever's presence I think is like just it's it was the one thing you could rely on. Remember, Cossas is out for the year, story's been streaky, Bregman's out for still a little while here, and a Braw's out right now. So they haven't you know, won games the last week or so because they've hit for the most part. I mean in New York they did. Everybody does there here at home. They you know, pitched and that was encouraging. But their lineup's taking a big hit, and I feel like, you know, they have to start looking for a big bat. They can't just hope and pray that Anthony and Meyer and Campbell and a streaky Trever story and Carlos narvaa's who no one had never heard of in December, who's been great can carry an offense.
