Speaker 4: Well, in the free agent market and the free agent game and the free agent season, comps mean a lot, not you know, a classic comp talking and right he lefty. You're talking to a guy who's really durable and seas and a guy who has not been as durable as he would like to be in Suarez, but still two really good pictures. And you know, you get a contract like that, two hundred and ten million over seven years, it's thirty million dollars AAV. It raises all the boats in the harbor on the pitching side. So Rangers should be happy about that, because I think he was on that short list with Cease and others of top free agent pitchers. But you're right, we've been talking all along that he probably won't be back, and I'd be very, very surprised.

They got some money, they got some support, they had a hell of a year, and they want to try to build on that, try to win the World Series. So they got overly aggressive on Uh on Dylan Cease. I sort of look at this deal and think back to Jason Worth and what the Nationals did.

Speaker 3: So Dylan sees last five seasons one hundred and sixty two starts. That's four more than any other pitcher in baseball, so he's he's very durable. Eight hundred and eighty four innings, seventh in baseball last five years, three seven to two, a thirty third out of eighty five qualified pitchers. He's ninth in baseball among pitchers in Baseball B War fourth and F War, and how does that compare to Rangers wear as well? Rangers made one hundred and sixteen starts last five years, one hundred and forty three appearances. He's got a bet every Ra higher B WAR and F war is a little lower. But you know, Rangers postseason success is Dylan sees in the postseason has like an era of like eight in the postseason limited. You know, Ranger of course is at one point four eight. Arra sixth best all time out of one hundred ninety nine pitchers in baseball history minimum of forty innings, and Scott Woris represents both of these guys. So I'm sure as he's pitching, Dylan Sees, he's like, there's you want durability, you want reliability, and there's nobody better than Dylan Ceese. And then for Ranger Swarz, he's probably going, don't worry about so much about the durability and the reliability both sides of the neck, worry about the worry about the elite performance, worry about how this guy posts in the postseason. So he's he can make two strong arguments, two different arguments for both of these guys, and both of these guys are definitely going to get paid. But you know, I keep thinking about the rotation as we we've talked all off season of how the Phillies are probably not going to resign Ranger. It's probably not going to happen, And I just kind of have a little bit of an uneasy feeling about the rotation in the sense of, you don't know what Zach Zach Wheeler is gonna be like when he's back. Noah's coming off the worst year of his career, you know, Taiwan Walker's Tymel Walker number five. You don't know what's gonna come from Painter. How do you guys feel about the rotation right now? Assuming that what Dave Dombrowski said at the General General of the GM meetings is true, which is if we're going to get any starting and pitching, it's gonna be more of a depth type piece, you know, late and late in the offseason, you know, a swing guy ish type of guy, maybe a guy that starts a season in triple A. How do you guys feel about the rotation? Because I'm a little bit shaky in terms of everybody thinks, so this is the strength that is the strength, but then you kind of dig into it and you go, is it going to be? Is it a lot to be a strength? I don't know.

Speaker 4: I'm right with you in terms of concern question mark or the potential. The upside is very very good, right, the upside and the potential is one of the top ones in baseball. But I mean, Zach Wheeler is going to turn thirty six next year. He's coming off a surgical procedure. It's it's a condition that guys bounce back from. But you know he's still never know until you see it.

So I'm not really worried about April. How could you say Nolah is anything but a question mark? Who knows which way he's going to go? You feel really good about the two lefties, but there are question marks there. I would assume we're going to see Painter relatively soon out of the gate, If not out of the gate, maybe shortly thereafter. Taiwan Walker becomes important for depth, but they don't have it. They have question marks at the top and they don't have a ton of depth. So I feel good about the potential if everything goes well, but if something is a miss, a little piece is a miss here or there, it could be an issue.

Because it's the first time we saw breakdown in his career, and as he's getting older, it has has all of those innings and all of those reps start to you know that he's had in the past has made him the most durable pitcher. He started to break down this year and you just don't know how much you're going to get out of him.

Week on this show, we were talking about Kyle Schwarber's free agency and how at the time this is now two weekends ago, I'd heard that the Phillies and Schwarber weren't closed, but you know, not necessarily surprised relatively early in spring in the off season, but we I think we all agree that we still expect the Phillies to resign him. That's probably the you know, the he's the favorite for the Phillies to resign. And ESPN's Jeff Passing said within like the last twenty four or forty eight hours that he thinks Kyle Schwarber could be the first big bat to maybe fall off the board, and he would kind of expect him to be signed or pick a team before the end of the winter meetings, which is kind of what we've been saying. You know, Ruben, you've been saying before Christmas, mid December. Jim, you've been saying for weeks, same thing, that Kyle's not the type of guy to drag this thing on. You guys still feel the same way.

Speaker 4: Yep, he's a to me, Kyle Schwarber's stability guy. He's a family man, he's got a young family, and I just don't think personality wise, he'd want to see this thing dragon. I think he'd like to have it done before the holidays so he knows where he can go, where he's going, get ready for the season and and enjoy the holidays with his with his young family. So I just yeah, I think I think he knows where he wants to be, and I think the team that wants him is right here, and it's just a matter of making it happen. So I'd be stunned if it went more than two more weeks. I'd be surprised he went more. And two more weeks, I'm gonna do a little.

So, I mean, it's fascinating. The Reds are fascinating player in all this. I just don't know how serious of a player they are given their history on the free agent market, which is it's not robust.

And you look at it and you go like, why in the world would the Red Sox They have so many other things that they need to do, go after somebody like JT real Muto, and you know, it's kind of like the book is out on GT. You know, yes, his offense, he's thirty five, his offense and numbers are down. But tell you what, if you want to bring a stud into the clubhouse, a tremendous clubhouse guy that can game plan the crap out of a game out of an opposing offense, who can just on the fly in game called a great game, who can control the running game, who pitchers love throwing too. You know, you reach out to JT's guys agents and you go, hey, you know, we got Carlos nevaias he's he's pretty good as a rookie, but maybe he could help this guy along and any interest. I'm sure you know the Red Sea that I'm sure a lot of other teams see that as well. You know, you hear about the good players and how good they are in the clubhouse. You hear about the players that aren't good in the clubhouse and bad influences. So I can see a lot of a lot of kind of maybe surprising interests maybe in somebody like JT. Besides the teams that just need. They need a frontline catcher.

There was another report last week right before the holidays. GP Morosi at MLB Network said, the Phillies have been inquiring about Kettle Marte. They inquire about everybody, of course, anybody that actually has some semblance of being a solid contributor. But we also talked about him a lot in October on our Top twenty Trade Target show. If they've even missed that one, you want to go back and check that out, go do it. But you know, the Diamondbacks are supposedly actively listening on Kettle Marty. My understanding is that they would this is not a surprise, is that they would have to be kind of blown away to trade Marte. And they're also looking for young, controllable starting pitching. So if that's the case, doesn't seem like there's a heck of a great match between the Phillies and the Diamondbacks for Marte unless you're going to trade Andrew Painter, you know, because gage Wood isn't going to get it done right.
