00:00:06
Speaker 2: Oh we did it. We made it to a Friday.

00:00:09
Speaker 3: It's a meat Friday at that And once again, this might be the best crowd that we've had today, Todd so far.

00:00:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, got three hours strong. Yeah.

00:00:19
Speaker 3: Bet let's see what they can do compared to the other four days here. But thank you to the San Francisco Giants once again for the hospitality they let us set up shop here across the McCovey Cove from Oracle Park. Fritzy and some of the backroom guys got to take a tour of the baseball stadium yesterday.

00:00:37
Speaker 4: Fantastic. It took us on the field, in the locker room, dugouts, pretend that we were a player, the entertainment room with bowling alleys and video games, all the things that guys do to relax after a game.

00:00:47
Speaker 2: Was so cool. But it was weird that you said, can we shower? And I thought that that.

00:00:51
Speaker 4: Was I did ask for a brief shower, just to say that I showered to giants like becaid, we don't really.

00:00:55
Speaker 2: Do that on the tour.

00:00:56
Speaker 3: Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading Car of the program First Hour brought to you by Penske Truck Rental. They helped us immeasurably drive cross country. The big German and his brother able to bring the gear to here in San Francisco. You can gain ground with Penske. They are reliable, fuel efficient vehicles when you need them the most. Play the Day, poll question, stat of the Day, all of that forthcoming. They'll be on the sidelines for super Bowl sixty for ENDBC, Melissa Stark and Kaylee Hartung will join us. Malcolm Butler, I think he provided the greatest play in Super Bowl history.

00:01:34
Speaker 2: And the former.

00:01:34
Speaker 3: Patriot defensive back will join us a little later on. Ceed Lamb of the Cowboys. Seaton is going to be excited about CD Lambs my guy. Yes, Mike Tariko and Chris Collinsworth, they'll be calling super Bowl sixty. They will stop by a little later on. And Booker McFarlane from the Mothership. He kept threatening to come by to the man Cave back home for a Meet Friday, and we said we'll bring Meet Friday to you. So Booger is going to join us a little bit later on. It is a meat Friday. We have Tomahawks steaks, we have ribis, we have avocado toast on sour dough. Who has it better than we do?

00:02:16
Speaker 2: No, thank you.

00:02:20
Speaker 3: Dylan is going to be whipping up the steaks today for our Meat Friday, courtesy of Heartland Steak Company.

00:02:27
Speaker 2: All right, so we have a poll.

00:02:28
Speaker 3: Question, play of the day, stat of the Day, all of that forthcoming, a great guest list. The NBA trade deadline kind of came and went. Not much happened as Jiannis as I predicted, would not be moved prior to the trade deadline. There is more flexibility coming up in the summer. Luka Doncik got injured last night and the Lakers win. It's a hamstring, don't know the severity of that. Last night was about the Football Awards. Matthew Stafford won the MVP, but it was a whole lot closer than we thought. It was one vote over Drake May. Justin Herbert got a first place vote. Hmm. Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Roger Craig make the Hall of Fame, Miles Garrett your Defensive Player of the Year, Jackson Smith and Jigba wins the Offensive Player of the Year.

00:03:15
Speaker 2: Why is it.

00:03:17
Speaker 3: Okay, how is Matthew Stafford not the Offensive Player of the Year if he's the MVP. I mean, I like handing out a lot of awards here, but this felt like, Hey, we need more categories here. How about an Offensive Player of the Year but he won't be the MVP. Yeah, seton, how.

00:03:33
Speaker 5: Can you be How can you not be the Offensive Player of the Year if you're the most valuable player.

00:03:40
Speaker 2: I'm not sure.

00:03:41
Speaker 6: I don't understand.

00:03:42
Speaker 2: I'm not sure.

00:03:43
Speaker 3: Christian McCaffrey got the Comeback Player of the Year award.

00:03:46
Speaker 7: Yes, Paul the OPOY lately has been the best wide receiver or running backson js N Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Justin Jefferson, Cooper cup, Derrick Henry, Michael Thomas remember him from the Saints. Holmes won it in eighteen. He's a last quarterback to win the OPOY.

00:04:04
Speaker 2: Breeze and Fitzgerald.

00:04:05
Speaker 3: I had mentioned that I had somebody tell me earlier when we were dealing with the Belichick and the Craft situation. I said, you know, Breeze and Fitzgerald are going in. I don't think that's you know, a big surprise, And I thought Roger Craig, and I'm glad he's in, but we are in San Francisco and he played for the forty nine ers, and maybe it's convenient to be able to do that and the game here, you know, you know, on the outskirts of San Francisco for the forty nine ers, and Roger Craig goes into the Hall of Fame, which means Kenny Anderson L. C.

00:04:38
Speaker 2: Greenwood did not make it.

00:04:40
Speaker 3: And we've already talked at nauseum about Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, who are some of the candidates for next year. Oh, Luke Keighley also got into the Hall of Fame, and rightfully so. He had a seven year window where Luke Keikley was a bad man. And Adam vinat Terry, I don't know if we're going to get a field goal kicker in in a long, long, long time, because Justin Tucker, given his troubled past here or a recent past, probably not getting into the Hall of Fame or not getting in anytime soon. But you know, Vinitary, I mean, has there been a more valuable kicker in the history of the game. He won Super Bowls like he can say, Brady can Brady can take credit for being the quarterback on Super Bowl winning teams. Adam Viniterry, and don't forget about the tuck rule. With the Raiders in the snow, he kicked the field goal to send them to the Super Bowl. But Vinitarry, I can't imagine another kicker going in in the next ten to fifteen years. He played twenty four years, twenty four years, and I thought that was a foregone conclusion. You know, maybe they don't want to give a kicker like easy entrance here and put him in first ballot. But Adam VINITERI great, great clutch kicker, and rightfully so. Now a Hall of Famer. Yeah, Paul.

00:05:58
Speaker 7: Here are some of the first time eligibles for the Hall of Fame class of twenty twenty seven. Gronkowski, Ben Roethlisberger. Yeah, Adrian Peterson missed a lot of games for various reasons.

00:06:15
Speaker 2: Does he get in before Frank Gore? Yes? You think, so, more more better, if that's a phrase, Yeah he was. Yes, it's way more better, yes, way more better.

00:06:25
Speaker 3: For first team more but but Frank Gore has the third most yards or second most yards in the history of the NFL.

00:06:31
Speaker 7: Was running back, but a lot of like eleven and fifty yard seasons, Yes.

00:06:36
Speaker 4: Todd, Yeah, one of those running back to say they had some dominant years.

00:06:40
Speaker 2: The other was more of a compiler.

00:06:41
Speaker 4: Not to take away from that accomplishment, but when you have Frank Gore's name that does come up. You play long enough and you have a whole bunch of seasons, are gonna get a lot.

00:06:48
Speaker 3: Of Yeah, but at that position, nobody plays that many years. That's remarkable, and he's already on the ballot, but you know Adrian Peterson will get in. I'm just wondering there was there was a the last few years, five or six years weren't great. Yes, seven plus you have to consider it might be Frankre's turn next year, all of a sud.

00:07:09
Speaker 2: A turn. Yeah, yes, good point.

00:07:11
Speaker 7: Yeah, Okay, So the first three are Gronk, Roethlisberger, and Adrian Peterson likely in or in ish at this point. The next three are gonna be controversial, Richard Sherman, and next one after that is Cam Newton first year eligibility. That's gonna be a lot of discussions, a lot of discussions, discussion.

00:07:33
Speaker 2: It's gonna be a lot of discussion on get up.

00:07:35
Speaker 7: Here's one more. Yeah, that's gonna be a lot of discussion. Antonio Brown from the Steelers.

00:07:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, one hundred percent, no doubt about it. Hall of Famer, no question he was. It was either him or Julio Jones was the best wide receiver for a very.

00:07:52
Speaker 6: Very, very very very long time.

00:07:54
Speaker 2: He was money.

00:07:55
Speaker 6: He was your game plan for him and still couldn't stop him.

00:07:59
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, boy.

00:08:01
Speaker 7: There was a five year run where Antonio Brown one hundred and ten catches, one twenty nine, one thirty six, one oh six on one and then a one oh four. He was first team All Pro four straight seasons. Then he fell off a cliff. I will bet anybody he does not get in first ballot.

00:08:16
Speaker 2: Oh no, he's not a first ballot. No. I think he's gonna wait a while, a while while.

00:08:22
Speaker 3: Okay, Tory Holds not in. Now you can say, was Tory hold a guy you game planned for. I would say probably not, just because there were so many weapons on that team. But Tory Holds got crazy numbers.

00:08:36
Speaker 8: Yes, Mar, you're right, But Tory Holt was never considered the best receiver in the game Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. It was who's the best receiver in the game. That would be something that would be talked about on debate shows.

00:08:47
Speaker 3: Is Cam Newton getting in? No, no, I'm not talking first ballot. Is he getting into the.

00:08:52
Speaker 2: Hall of Fame? No, Okay, it's pretty quick. I just don't think it was long enough.

00:08:57
Speaker 3: Okay, Well, Josh Allen just surpassed him in rushing touchdowns, like that was the big thing for Cam that you know, he had a crazy number of rushing touchdowns.

00:09:08
Speaker 4: Yes, Hut, if Cam got in and he requested a big hat on top of the bust, would they accommodate that or everyone has to kind of look the same.

00:09:14
Speaker 9: Thank you, Todd, Yes, Paulie and Cam Newton's first six seasons three All Pros, First Team All Pro, MVP, three Pro Bowls, and then after age twenty seven he never made another Pro Bowl.

00:09:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't think so.

00:09:31
Speaker 3: And Matthew Stafford solidified being a Hall of Famer last night winning the MVP, right, and then he said he was going to come back next year, which I know Sean or Sean McVay was like, I'm hoping he's coming back.

00:09:45
Speaker 2: I'm planning on him coming back.

00:09:47
Speaker 4: Yes, un you mentioned Tory Holt when I think of those the greatest show on turf and everything to me, like Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt kind of canceled each other out. Both very good, not one was so much greater than the other where one is like would get into the Hall of Fame.

00:09:58
Speaker 2: I agree, I agree? And then had Marshall fault You know.

00:10:01
Speaker 5: He kind of takes the the that first billing out of all those guys, Marshall Faulk you think of him.

00:10:07
Speaker 2: First, yeah, Then Kurt Warner, Yeah, yes, Marvin.

00:10:09
Speaker 8: That's what happened to Reggie Wayne. Also, like if he was the number one guy on another team, he'd probably be a Hall of Famer, no doubt. But since he was on Marvin Harrison, Peyton Manning, Edri and James Dallas Clark, he kind of got lost in sauce.

00:10:21
Speaker 2: Uh, it's a poll question today's seat.

00:10:23
Speaker 3: And by the way, a little bit later on, Todd has been hinting about this rime time and it's a special rhyme time.

00:10:30
Speaker 10: Hinting like an hourly emails that it such is that your way.

00:10:32
Speaker 3: Of Yes, Todd nudges me today and he goes, just want to remind you rimetime. I go I know Todd the last show than plan No No, No no I and it's a special rhyme time. Explain what rhyme time is and why it's even more special that we're out here.

00:10:48
Speaker 4: I give you two clues and the answer are two words that rhyme with one another, and it has a San Francisco theme.

00:10:54
Speaker 3: Well, give us it, like just a little taste, because I want to keep the audience the entire show.

00:10:58
Speaker 2: And this will do it. This will do it. Think yeah, it sounds like it made guy a little bit.

00:11:02
Speaker 4: Okay, microwaves something Brandon, microwave something branded. These are all San Francisco related rhyme times.

00:11:11
Speaker 2: When you microwave something.

00:11:12
Speaker 5: You can see how excited the crowd is there about this. They're really pumped.

00:11:17
Speaker 2: No one's trying to guess.

00:11:19
Speaker 4: Looking for nuke and ayuk micro ade something unbranded, nuke a yuk.

00:11:25
Speaker 2: We get one more.

00:11:26
Speaker 4: Some people really understand a good one now, okay, good one. Other word for movie, old stadium, other word for a movie, old stadium.

00:11:36
Speaker 2: Flick, candlestick flick.

00:11:38
Speaker 3: That's how we got it. And the audience is so pumped up.

00:11:43
Speaker 2: Nuke a yuk. Yeah, there they are. Look what leaving. They're not leaving.

00:11:50
Speaker 4: It looks like they're sitting in a library waiting to watch a movie about the eighteenth century.

00:11:54
Speaker 2: I think they're in a waiting room ready to you know, where's the funny stuff coming? Hey, joke boy. If I know the show, they know it's not coming. So I sitting here in the dark. Make me laugh, Joe boy, I thought that was a photo. I didn't. There's no movement favorite blinket. I don't know what was going ether. Uh Seaton whole question today.

00:12:13
Speaker 5: Well, I'm not trying to pick on anybody, but do we do a how many first place votes? Should justin Herbert have gotten zero? One or two plus? No, it's zero. He's not an MVP. Uh it turns out no, no, no, he got one MVP vote.

00:12:31
Speaker 2: I mean his numbers are what twenty six and thirteen? Yeah? They won eleven games? Come on, yeah, come on, not MVP.

00:12:41
Speaker 3: I mean, Josh Allen, you could say you can give him a couple of first place votes because he was well cooks too there. That was their offense, and I thought they overachieved this year. But Stafford had a crazy, crazy year. I thought it was going to be a runaway over Drake May. Yeah, Paul the reporter who voted for Justin Herbert. His name Sam Monson. I think he's been on the show before when he's at PFF. He is an Irish NFL reporter. He actually posted why he voted for him.

00:13:10
Speaker 7: He said the guy had the worst offensive line in the season, despite that he was working miracles every single game. His running backs were hurt. He says, Stafford has so much more around him, it was easier for Stafford to do and that's why he voted for the true he's the word most valuable player, almost literally, like if you remove him from the team, it's over Johnny.

00:13:28
Speaker 2: And that's what his rationale.

00:13:29
Speaker 3: Okay, wait, is he trying to say he's more valuable to his team than Drake May was to his team this year?

00:13:36
Speaker 2: Yeah?

00:13:36
Speaker 7: He said also about that, like the defense helped a lot more than the offense with New England.

00:13:43
Speaker 2: How great was the Chargers defense? Top five in the league.

00:13:47
Speaker 7: Come on, yeah, I appreciate him giving his opinion and tell him why he did it.

00:13:53
Speaker 3: But no, I know, but I can still I can carve it up a little bit here. It's a hard one to justify Drake May might have been the most valuable. Matthew Stafford had the most unbelievable year.

00:14:05
Speaker 6: Do we know who?

00:14:07
Speaker 5: Like if that person didn't vote for Justin Herbert, though we don't know if they would have voted. He might have put Stafford first yea, or it could have We don't know if it would have gone to Drake May necessarily.

00:14:18
Speaker 3: No, but I think he was the most valuable player to his team. Considering the turnaround, we knew the Rams would be great. Stafford took it even a step further. His year's year was remarkable, and considering we didn't even know how healthy he was going to be. And you can have weapons, and by the way, the vote happens before the playoffs. You can have weapons, you have to make sure you utilize those weapons, and Matthew Stafford did.

00:14:48
Speaker 5: But this is funny to me, Oh, the Hall of Fame voting. I'm surprised Vine Darry didn't get dinged a little bit. It seems like people forgot him for a while. Wait, why is he getting dinged? Because all the Patriots are getting dinged. But he didn't do anything. I understand that. I understand he didn't create the Tuck rule. It seems like over the years people have forgotten that he was really great. Yes, he's sort of like, well, Justin Tucker is the greatest kicker of all time, so he whatever, people forget that.

00:15:16
Speaker 6: Before Justin Tucker, there was Adam van TERI.

00:15:18
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, but he had been waiting a couple of years.

00:15:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, this is the second year.

00:15:24
Speaker 2: Oh I think this was his second Yes, this third year? Okay, yeah, Paul.

00:15:28
Speaker 7: Going back to Sam monson This Reporter and why he voted for Herbert, do you guys look at the MVP as Most Valuable Player or best Player Best Team, because it feels like the most votes these days, the rationale is best player, best Team.

00:15:41
Speaker 3: I don't know what kind of parameters they give you, but you know it's open to your interpretation. And having voted on these postseason awards in the NBA, I understand it. But I always felt like if I was voting for somebody or not voting for somebody, then I should be able to explain why or why not and say says, hey, look at the offensive line. Great, it was a bad offensive line, but don't tell me that Drake may had the benefit of a great defense without at least acknowledging the Chargers defense was top five.

00:16:14
Speaker 2: Why am I raising my voice, Tod, it's early here, get a little riled up.

00:16:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm all The lights are on there over at Oracle. That's nice backdrop. Here is gorgeous here, McCovey cove I just wanted to run the bases yesterday.

00:16:29
Speaker 2: That was it.

00:16:30
Speaker 11: I would to let you do that.

00:16:31
Speaker 3: I know, I know, but I was taking a nap when they said, hey, we're going to go take a tour.

00:16:35
Speaker 2: I go, I'm going to take a tour of my bed.

00:16:37
Speaker 6: We had some grounds crew guys here earlier in the week.

00:16:40
Speaker 2: I saw them.

00:16:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, they still could to hook that up. They had dirt all over them though. Came over they said, hey, we're part of the ground screw.

00:16:46
Speaker 7: I go.

00:16:47
Speaker 3: I know.

00:16:47
Speaker 2: I can tell.

00:16:48
Speaker 5: They ran in carrying dragging that mat behind them and the other guy was raking in front.

00:16:52
Speaker 3: All right, when we come back, Melissa Stark and Kaylee Hartung, they'll be on the sidelines for Super Bowl sixty. They'll join us here on set, just getting started. It's a meet Friday. Glad you're part of the program. Dan and The Dan and Stan Patrick Show.

00:18:19
Speaker 3: It was on this date in two thousand and five the Patriots beat the Eagles. Dion Branch was named MVP. Boy remember that, and then he went to Seattle after that after he became the MVP. Also twenty eleven, the Packers beat the Steelers. That was Aaron Rodgers' loan Super Bowl when he was the MVP. Yes, Marvin, I thought that was a coronation with Aaron Rodgers. Yes, for sure, he is strong.

00:18:42
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:18:43
Speaker 3: Oh, by the way, there have been three coaches to win the Super Bowl before turning forty. Mike McDonald's trying to be the fourth. Who are those coaches?

00:18:55
Speaker 2: Marvin, Mike Tomlin, Yes, Paul Sean mcvag yes.

00:19:00
Speaker 11: And.

00:19:02
Speaker 3: Back row back row had m Okay, we forget about this guy.

00:19:14
Speaker 2: Still in the media.

00:19:17
Speaker 3: Maybe coming back to the NFL one day dot dot dot John Gruden thirty nine. That guy that's not really his super Bowl though, Wow wow, but you say it to his face.

00:19:37
Speaker 5: I might, Yeah, this guy. Uh.

00:19:41
Speaker 3: Melissa Stark and Kaylee hart Tongue, they will be on the sidelines for a Super Bowl sixty working FRIENDBC. Of course Kaylee is working her for Super Bowl. This will be Melissa's second She last worked the Super Bowl. That was twenty three years ago when the Bucks played the Raiders in San Diego. We got a chance to sit down with them a couple of days ago, and I asked them about trying to treat the Super Bowl like it's just another game, starting with the question to Melissa, because I think.

00:20:13
Speaker 14: We treat every game at the same level. I don't care if it's a preseason game or it's the Super Bowl. We attack it and research and do all of the work as if it is. But you know, I mean already I think it's fun. I mean, the Klli's here, you know, bringing in another sideline reporter, it is. It feels bigger. It is bigger, it's the biggest stage. But it's your first so I'll.

00:20:35
Speaker 10: Have you, and it is it is.

00:20:37
Speaker 15: So I think what's fun about this for us is to share this responsibility of covering the sidelines and getting to focus on our respective teams. Melissa will be on the Patriot sideline. I'll be with the Seahawks. But for as much as we both I think enjoy the preparation process for a regular season game, it's a different type of challenge to focus on one but also have the awareness of the other that you need. So I think my fear in a lot of games is that no matter how much you prepare, sometimes you just can't be at the right place at the right time. You know, quarterback gets hurt, he's exiting the field on the opposite sideline from where you are. You're running trying to get to where you need to be. In this case, I think for us it sort of takes some of that pressure off.

00:21:17
Speaker 10: We've got it covered where we can.

00:21:19
Speaker 2: How do you decide? Was there a coin toss of who gets the Patriot?

00:21:22
Speaker 1: Kallie?

00:21:22
Speaker 2: Do you want to answer? Well?

00:21:27
Speaker 15: Melissa, being that this is her Sunday night football crew, that is so wonderfully allowing me she got first.

00:21:33
Speaker 14: I was speaking about myself and the person, so yeah, but we were in.

00:21:37
Speaker 10: Constant conversation about it.

00:21:38
Speaker 15: I think that was one of the most fun things for me about Championship Sunday and watching those games was that Melissa and I were texting it throughout.

00:21:46
Speaker 10: She kept saying, what are you thinking? Are you're taking? Because I want to know where I'm going to land.

00:21:51
Speaker 14: So it's funny, because you know, I thought it was. It really wasn't, you know, a definite decision one way or the other. But I just felt like I had more games with the Patriots this year. Sideline observations come into play, and then stories and you think of you know, Drake May and his wife and Michael and the storylines there, and so it just it was slightly outweighed the Seahawks, and for.

00:22:17
Speaker 15: Me, I had two regular season Seahawks games, so it worked, it worked out perfectly for us.

00:22:21
Speaker 8: Yeah.

00:22:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, as far as interviews this week, do you then have Seattle players that and coaches that you have responsibilities for, same with.

00:22:30
Speaker 2: You, Melissa, Yes, so we do.

00:22:31
Speaker 14: So we're both going to boath team practices, production meetings and all that, and then on the on the side of that, we're each talking to all the individual players for our teams.

00:22:39
Speaker 10: But we went to media night and yeah, I was just with what a circus? Yeah, that was that was wild. Were you there? No, No, it's too late for you.

00:22:47
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, Plus you don't really learn anything there.

00:22:51
Speaker 14: Well, we got we were behind the scenes down the hallways, you know, with the with the players that we wanted to talk to.

00:22:56
Speaker 15: So typically during a regular game week, we would each be getting on the phone.

00:22:59
Speaker 10: With a couple of players that we were crossing the teams.

00:23:01
Speaker 15: In this case, we got to do it face to face, We got to do it between all their different responsibilities on opening night and get more players than we would typically have for a regular game, which just sort of adds to that information that we need to go through, distill and make sure.

00:23:15
Speaker 10: We've got all of our bases covered.

00:23:16
Speaker 14: And it's interesting because you know the job of the sideline reporter is to be the eyes and the ears down the field and.

00:23:22
Speaker 10: Get you the access right and to.

00:23:23
Speaker 14: Interview the coaches and injuries of course, but observations while you're down there, and it's and then do you storytell, and it's it's almost you know, we didn't do a ton of storytelling this season where you you know, you really personalize a player, because it does in a way.

00:23:40
Speaker 10: It can take you out of the game at that moment. But this is such a big audience.

00:23:43
Speaker 14: So it'll be interesting to me to see how it plays out for us, because we have some incredible stories on some of these players. You know, instuctor Marcus Jones last night about his son who has autism and he's four years old and Marcus Jones is learning sign language and things like that, So how does that get into a football game?

00:23:59
Speaker 10: You know, that that's the hard part.

00:24:01
Speaker 14: But the audience is so big that stories like that will appeal to and touch someone and make you root for that player.

00:24:08
Speaker 2: But you could also have these stories told in the pregame.

00:24:11
Speaker 10: Since it's well, we're not in the pregame.

00:24:13
Speaker 2: I know, but can't you do a story for the pregame?

00:24:15
Speaker 10: Oh, I see what you're saying. Yes, I don't know all the time.

00:24:18
Speaker 2: You don't lower yourself to the preg.

00:24:22
Speaker 15: Want to be Hey, we are in the pregame show we do. We will each be at the team hotels, yes, the morning of the super Bowl and be as the logistics.

00:24:30
Speaker 10: You know, when they're leaving.

00:24:32
Speaker 2: What's going on?

00:24:33
Speaker 10: I know, we want we.

00:24:34
Speaker 14: Want to be in the pregim we'd be glad to uh the arrangement for the coaches at halftime.

00:24:40
Speaker 2: Yes, you got two questions for.

00:24:42
Speaker 14: Each Oh, this is actually an interesting This is the first time ever they both want to be interviewed going in, so we have them back to back, so live.

00:24:52
Speaker 10: I hope, I hope Kelly doesn't go really long.

00:24:54
Speaker 14: With hers and and I get one question.

00:24:56
Speaker 15: Because the Patriot the home team during the regular season, the home team coach gets to choose does he.

00:25:02
Speaker 10: Want to be going in or coming out?

00:25:04
Speaker 15: In this case, Mike Rabel wants to be going in, but Mike McDonald also wants to be going in. So we had to have that conversation with their staffs to be like and I had this conversation face to face with Mike McDonald last night, saying, do you understand Melissa is going to get Mike Rabel first and you might have to wait a beat with me, which is a lot hold you down.

00:25:22
Speaker 14: You know, feels like a lifetime when you're out there and you're holding a coach and you're waiting, oh.

00:25:26
Speaker 15: Yeah, and you're saying okay, but he is face he knows the position, yeah, putting.

00:25:30
Speaker 3: Himself in, and you're trying to make small talk with a guy who might be down you know, thirteen points you're going okay, so you're just holding.

00:25:36
Speaker 14: At that point, you're just holding his arm, like don't please, don't leave, no small talk.

00:25:41
Speaker 2: Who's the toughest though to get information out of?

00:25:43
Speaker 14: I mean, coach wise, what's interesting we talk about that because some coaches I just always say in our production meetings, just say something, give us something like not coach, did you say this to the coach yes, oh yeah, yes, to say make it memorable.

00:25:56
Speaker 2: You know you didn't say just to Belichick, did you?

00:25:58
Speaker 10: Well, I mean I would I kind of.

00:26:00
Speaker 14: I would say, I would say, well, would you give me more off camera? I would say, all right, if I don't interview you on camera, which I know you don't want to do, please just give me like a little bit something off camera.

00:26:11
Speaker 10: You know you just do these little negotiations, right, Well.

00:26:13
Speaker 3: Why can't you just say can I get something from Josh McDaniels, Like can I get something from an assistant?

00:26:21
Speaker 2: So I don't bother you that.

00:26:23
Speaker 10: Like Coach K used to do that at Duke.

00:26:25
Speaker 15: You would go to an assistant instead of doing the halftime interview with coach K.

00:26:29
Speaker 14: I mean, both of these coaches are pretty good. Sometimes I feel like I hear sometimes the viewers say, you know, the coach is never going to say anything.

00:26:38
Speaker 10: Why do we want that? But it's access, right, it's access. There is the debate of.

00:26:42
Speaker 14: Certain coaches that give so much coach speak. Do you just talk to them off camera and then you report you know, the best of what they said. But you know, I think you see their face, you see their emotion, and that can go a real long way. Yeah, are you a fan of I think you're over there not being a fan of those of what of the coach interviews?

00:27:01
Speaker 3: No, I feel bad sometimes for them or for us, for you, for you guys.

00:27:07
Speaker 14: I know it's just sometimes that you can have a great.

00:27:10
Speaker 2: Question, yes, and it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because you need somebody to play. You need somebody.

00:27:15
Speaker 3: Now you're going to say, hey, what adjustments you're going to make in the second half, as if they're going.

00:27:19
Speaker 2: To tell you, you know.

00:27:21
Speaker 3: So there's so many there's sort of like open ended questions. I hope you're going to take a bite of this. Chances are they're not going to say too much. And if they're up, they don't want to share anything. If they're down the obvious, you know they're going to share the obvious. So that would be the only thing that I cringe sometimes because I know you have to ask a question, but I know they're not going to.

00:27:41
Speaker 2: Answer the question.

00:27:42
Speaker 14: We just have to make sure our job is to asked the right question. And that's it, and that's what we can't I go over this all the time with my our producer, and I just say, well, what I want him to say, is this?

00:27:54
Speaker 15: But I think Melissa and I share the feeling that in that moment, we just want to.

00:27:58
Speaker 10: Help the viewer learn something.

00:28:00
Speaker 15: So it's give that coach runway, right, ask that open, neutral, lean question where they can say whatever it is that they want to say.

00:28:08
Speaker 10: But hopefully it is illuminating in some ways. You're not cringing.

00:28:12
Speaker 3: Okay there, But I know the feeling for you because I've seen this happen so often and you're rooting for just a smooth transaction.

00:28:22
Speaker 10: Yes, that's it for it to not go badly.

00:28:24
Speaker 3: Yes, but if it does, I wanted to really go badly, thank you.

00:28:29
Speaker 2: But not this Sunday, of course.

00:28:32
Speaker 3: But when you have the coach who won't stop and you've got to run after.

00:28:35
Speaker 2: That, that drives me crazy.

00:28:36
Speaker 10: Yeah, and you really have You had to chase somebody?

00:28:38
Speaker 2: Yes?

00:28:39
Speaker 10: Who'd you have to chase Kyle Shanahan?

00:28:41
Speaker 2: Oh I believe that?

00:28:42
Speaker 9: Yeah?

00:28:42
Speaker 2: Always? Yes?

00:28:43
Speaker 10: Oh, I get in his way? I mean or the Yeah, they've made it where you run up?

00:28:47
Speaker 14: Now you run up to him, so you're you're blocking where he goes to the runs to him.

00:28:53
Speaker 15: Because usually the forty nine ers, when they're on their home sideline. He has to run across the end zone to get to their tunnel, so you come at the opposite angle.

00:29:00
Speaker 10: But these are the things that we think about.

00:29:02
Speaker 15: I mean, we have meetings to talk about the logistics PR staff to say.

00:29:06
Speaker 10: This is where we're meeting for this interview.

00:29:07
Speaker 15: Yah, it's all free kick or I mean, yeah, this is We're flying by the seat of our pants on a lot.

00:29:12
Speaker 10: But there we plan where we can.

00:29:13
Speaker 3: They are the sideline reporters, Melissa Stark and Kaylee Hartung and your first Super Bowl Melissa's second. You have to dress appropriately to be able to run across the football field.

00:29:24
Speaker 10: Well, it's funny.

00:29:24
Speaker 14: We've also talked about that. You know, we don't want one of us to look like we're you know, we.

00:29:28
Speaker 10: Want to go into the balling party. Yeah, exactly ordinating.

00:29:32
Speaker 2: But yes, but I say shoes.

00:29:34
Speaker 10: Shoes, Oh starts there, Well, shoes.

00:29:37
Speaker 14: I am normally I always wear sneakers, but it's the Super Bowl, so I'm going to elevate a little bit.

00:29:40
Speaker 10: Yea, these shoes, you know I'm wearing, Yeah, bach like shoes.

00:29:43
Speaker 15: I'm wearing, Yeah, a nice block heel, you know, but like not to it doesn't sink in.

00:29:47
Speaker 10: Yeah, we think to think about these things.

00:29:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, I'm curious about these things.

00:29:53
Speaker 10: We can have a wardrobe change.

00:29:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, what if there's rain, Well, she just said that you buy a rain jacket.

00:29:58
Speaker 15: I ordered a rain jack Oh, yes, because I was like, you know what, there is a small.

00:30:03
Speaker 10: And if I don't have a rain jacket, I guarantee it will rain. I used to my arrange it.

00:30:07
Speaker 15: But if I have it, I'm thinking I'm helping our chances that it will.

00:30:11
Speaker 3: Got to be careful. What kind of colors you wear on the sidelines.

00:30:14
Speaker 14: Oh that's what I said to Yeah, we again a conversation.

00:30:17
Speaker 10: Ley is the one thing.

00:30:18
Speaker 15: It's one thing when you're the only sideline reporter on the game, you're not touching colors of either team.

00:30:23
Speaker 10: In this case, we each have our own sideline.

00:30:26
Speaker 15: Navy blue just happens to be a color for both teams.

00:30:28
Speaker 10: I think if navy blue is kind of a neutral. Yes, she's wearing navy blue. I am wearing navy blue, Sue me. I like the suit, And here we go.

00:30:36
Speaker 3: I think there's a prop bet on what color. So now it's navy blue. So you can be able to put some money down on that.

00:30:42
Speaker 11: There you go.

00:30:42
Speaker 2: Do you care who wins?

00:30:45
Speaker 15: We want a great game, We want a lot of emotion. I mean postgame interviews, Despike.

00:30:49
Speaker 10: I was gonna ask you, you know what.

00:30:50
Speaker 14: It's so funny because if my team, if the Patriots lose, I have to do a losing interview with Rabel and same for me with this, And I was actually thinking about you because I feel like you've done You've had to do a lot of those in those big moments, and sort of how I've never had to do that in my career.

00:31:05
Speaker 2: I think you have to do the library voice.

00:31:08
Speaker 10: Okay, so you get very quiet, yeah, and very somber.

00:31:11
Speaker 6: Yes, I know.

00:31:12
Speaker 14: But but the questioning is it just what was the message to the team and all?

00:31:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you'll get a sense of it. You know, as nosy as you are, you'll be.

00:31:21
Speaker 2: Great, thank you.

00:31:22
Speaker 3: No, absolutely, you're very curious, so you'll. But getting a sense of emotion is what we want because if that was your team and your coach and you lost, and then you want to empathize. Even if your Seattle in New England loses, you're still you know, you feel bad. Somebody's going to have to lose. But you can't say, like, man, Mike, you blew it. Uh, you know, don't know leading questions like that.

00:31:48
Speaker 10: Right, yeah, thank you for that. You should have asked you you.

00:31:50
Speaker 2: Should have drawn the ball at the goal line and not thrown the ball at the goal.

00:31:54
Speaker 10: What were you thinking?

00:31:55
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's always a good one. Thanks for joining us.

00:31:59
Speaker 10: Thanks, thank you. Oh yeah, so fun.

00:32:01
Speaker 3: Melissa Stark Kaylee Hartongue, they joined us a couple of days ago.

00:32:05
Speaker 2: They will be on the sidelines.

00:32:06
Speaker 3: So there's a lot of things going on for everybody broadcasting this game. And Melissa brings up something that every it's not every reporter's nightmare. It's you've got to get into a mood when you're going to talk to somebody who just lost the biggest game of their life.

00:32:22
Speaker 2: How do you do it?

00:32:23
Speaker 3: And of course I always say you got to start with the voice. Coach, que disappointing loss. What was your message to your team? How does that sound?

00:32:35
Speaker 2: Yeah? How about you care?

00:32:37
Speaker 6: Yeah you sound kind of amused. Actually what you did? Yeah, yeah, you sound kind of amused.

00:32:42
Speaker 3: I think you have to take it down even from Okay, all right, coach, thanks for joining us.

00:32:48
Speaker 2: I know, difficult time. What was the message to your team. There you go. That was more of a death in the family tone.

00:32:56
Speaker 6: I think, well, their hopes and dreams just die.

00:32:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, it might have been worse than death in the family, depending on family members. That's there's a couple I could lose and uh no, what we're still okay?

00:33:09
Speaker 2: Yes, Tom, he just say, tough loss, but great season. Look how close you came. Just make it positives to go the other way? Well you are, mister positive.

00:33:16
Speaker 4: He goes with the depressing, you know, funeral type thing.

00:33:20
Speaker 2: That was a great season.

00:33:21
Speaker 4: I know you wanted to get this last w but now let's get over it and think.

00:33:24
Speaker 2: About all the positive things.

00:33:25
Speaker 3: So could you imagine Melissa Stark says to Mike Brabel, tough loss.

00:33:29
Speaker 2: But hey, you got to hear Melissa.

00:33:32
Speaker 8: I can't.

00:33:33
Speaker 4: I can understand what you're trying to do, but I'm just a little upset disappointed right now.

00:33:36
Speaker 2: But thank you. Yes, Marvin, I'm not sure if that'll work with Mike Brabel. Probably not. Hey, great season, what'd you just say to me?

00:33:46
Speaker 8: Yeah, because you're not thinking about what happened in October and November.

00:33:49
Speaker 3: But you got to use the library voice. You got to be very quiet, funeral voice, like you're I'm so sorry for your loss.

00:33:57
Speaker 2: We're also sorry. I'm so sorry for you. Yes, Marvin Dan tough loss at the Emmys something like that. Oh no, why do you do that? Why do you do that? Is honored to be nominated, it.

00:34:11
Speaker 3: Is, but I feel sorry, Like I say to you, guys, I'm so sorry for your loss.

00:34:18
Speaker 2: Because it's not us.

00:34:19
Speaker 3: Yes, I didn't. It's not on me. I didn't lose the Sports Emmy.

00:34:25
Speaker 7: Yes, what if Sam Darnold did that, like he has four touchdowns and they lose.

00:34:29
Speaker 2: Hey, it wasn't not me. I did my job. Yeah, I hell of a game. Yeah.

00:34:33
Speaker 3: Can't call me a bust anymore. All right, let me come back play the day, update our poll results. Malcolm Butler will join us at the top of next hour. Booger McFarlane, Chris collins Worth, Mike Turrico, and Cdee Lamb. When a seat ins favorite players will stop by. We're back after this Dan Patrick show.

00:35:03
Speaker 2: Oh my god, the play of the day.

00:35:08
Speaker 13: God, this is the play.

00:35:10
Speaker 2: Of the day.

00:35:13
Speaker 16: Check this out, Gil for pull a Bally left the circle, pull shot, cluck about the balls. Oh my goodness, at the buzzer bank, it's there, pull of Bali's first three. Everybody that has played tonight for the Wizards has a three.

00:35:31
Speaker 3: The Wizards. We are desperate for play of the day, aren't we.

00:35:34
Speaker 2: It was the hardest part of my week. Are none?

00:35:37
Speaker 3: The Wizards have won for their last six and they're no longer the NBA's worst record. They are now the fifth worst record, ahead of the nett Pacers, Pelicans, and Kings. How about a round of applause for the Wizards. Yeah, Yeah, Anthony Dave is coming same tear your hamstrings, street clothes coming your way. 00:36:17
Speaker 6: If you're a neutral, who are you rooting for?

00:36:18
Speaker 2: Right now?

00:36:19
Speaker 5: Eighty percent of the audience rooting for the Seahawks very early results, though.

00:36:23
Speaker 3: That's not surprising at all. It's now you might not be rooting for Seattle. You're just not rooting for the Patriots. It's kind of like the Hall of Fame voters.

00:36:32
Speaker 7: Yes, Paul, it's funny because the Patriots feel like a feel good story, but their history, you root against their history.

00:36:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it is a great story. Yeah, an underdog story here, yes, Marvin.

00:36:42
Speaker 8: So spygate the reason why they're not a national brand maybe like the Steelers are the forty nine ers of the Cowboys, because winning six SUP Bowls over twenty years should give you fanbait, you know, should give you a larger fan base like the Cowboys do and the forty nine Ers do, but they don't.

00:36:55
Speaker 2: Well, they own New England.

00:36:58
Speaker 3: It's just they're not you know, universal with like the Cowboys are and the Steelers are. You know, your fan base is all over America, right, but why not? I don't know what was likable about them, even though Brady use a great story and it just feels like Belichick was the that guy's a buzzkill and he's doing something nefarious. So, I mean the Cowboys thing is still amazing that you raised another generation and they haven't won anything. But you know, you're kind of like attached to your parents or your grandparents like they did this to you, like damn you. I have a friend who has kids and he says his kids don't want to be Cleveland Browns fans, but they grew up being Cleveland Browns fans and they want to know. He goes, what should I do? I said, let him find another team if they want to. It's okay, Yeah, Pauline.

00:37:53
Speaker 2: Cass of last week.

00:37:54
Speaker 7: If you're thirty years old, you've never seen the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

00:38:00
Speaker 2: Getting used to that feeling. Man CD coming on, I'm gonna okay, okay, yeah, ceedee.

00:38:06
Speaker 3: Lamb's not joining us for an hour, so he won't know I said this. Malcolm Butler will join us at the top of the hours. We revisit greatest play in Super Bowl history. Also, he played one play in the Super Bowl against the Eagles, the kickoff, and then he was benched and we still don't know why. So we'll talk to Malcolm Butler and our good buddy Booger McFarlane coming over for a meet Friday, Peter and Albany. Hi, Peter, what's on your mind today?

00:38:36
Speaker 10: Ay?

00:38:36
Speaker 11: First time long time six longs stopped two fifteen soft. I got a SCAT of the day Cooper flag for in forty nine, four thirty six and then thirty two last night. Youngest player ever to score thirty and four straight, as well as the rooky to do it in four straight and lose every game.

00:39:05
Speaker 14: Stata the Jay Start of the Jay, We Love your Stata the Day Stata, the.

00:39:13
Speaker 5: J Stanta the j O Damn Devils Stand of the Day, Stanta the.

00:39:21
Speaker 2: Day, Thank you, Pandora stat of the Day brought to you.

00:39:25
Speaker 3: By FANNEDI America. My wife doesn't even talk to me that way. Yes, yes, PAULI.

00:39:33
Speaker 2: You know Cooper Flagg. I'm looking at the numbers.

00:39:36
Speaker 7: If he keeps going like this, his rookie year could be better statistically than Lebron James rookie year.

00:39:42
Speaker 3: Well, that's four consecutive games he's put up at least thirty and imagine being the man on a team at age nineteen in the NBA. Remarkable. Uh Red in Georgia, I read What's on your mind?

00:39:56
Speaker 13: Hey, Dan? Thanks for taking a car. I got a couple of things. Your damn man, I like yesterday. I don't know if you do this personally. When you interview someone, you know how to ask the right questions and get out. They weigh in a lot of interviews. They they get the guy talking and they'll jump right back in and mess it up. And so salute Dad for doing that. But damn, this is what we need for you as a nation before you retire. We need the Monday after super Bowl to be a national holiday. I don't think people know how important it is for Americans because football is what we are just as much as American as Abraham leaking to me. This is real to me. So we need Mondays off. And maybe you the people you you know how to shake and make out there. Dad, When y'all talk, everyone listens. So Dan, if you want, please try to get us some Monday off for a national holiday. All right, super Bowl and.

00:40:53
Speaker 3: I know you redof redoff. I'll see what I can do, see what I can do, and I got what other things to do. I got to get people into Hall of Fames. But if I can get the super Bowl and then we have a national holiday. But I think we're headed that way. We've talked about this, you know, not with the commissioner, but we've talked about that President's Day and make it. You know, it's Monday, and so after the super Bowl, Yes, PAULI.

00:41:16
