We are stoked to have you on. I feel like you have had such a unique journey getting to this point. Like I read and saw that you were adopted by the Knicks family.

00:02:27
Speaker 1: You were what fifteen years old?

00:02:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, I was fifteen. When I was sixteen, it was what April tweet thirty.

00:02:32
Speaker 2: Don't be scared to put that thing close to the list now, Oh Dann you got it tea.

00:02:37
Speaker 4: So that's when the day I got adopted.

00:02:38
Speaker 2: So talk about talk about getting to that point at fifteen and being taken in by Coach Nix and their family. I was reading some things like I saw your mother have quotes in there and everything else.

00:02:50
Speaker 1: But I would love to learn more about you know, how you got there. It was a It was a complete change for me.

00:02:55
Speaker 3: It was a it was a different journey, as we all know, because being a black kid just moving into a a white house, and it was like, you have to learn different ways of how to live life.

00:03:10
Speaker 4: I was more.

00:03:12
Speaker 3: I was more like I won't say on my own, but I was more doing whatever I wanted, like defiant as a kid.

00:03:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, And they taught.

00:03:18
Speaker 3: Me rules that you like, you got to obey some rules to get what you need to be and you have to do the right things to be well in order to get what you need.

00:03:27
Speaker 4: To get to.

00:03:28
Speaker 3: And my biological mom loved them to death, like she knows that they helped me a lot, and she's she's always been supportive of what they've done and how they've changed and impacted my life. It was kind of the Knicks family taking some stress off my mom's shoulders, and every day she she praised and every day that like they continue to do that and make me a better man like I am today.

00:03:55
Speaker 1: So was this something that you were resistive to at first?

00:03:57
Speaker 3: I wasn't like resistant because I remember walking into the house and it was eting at the dinner table and like me and my brothers like we always take the play and go to the room and literally, you know, like I always to have like dreams like eating at the dinner table, and we did some nights, but it wasn't like everybody else that's just take their plate to the room and play the game or whatever for but they was eating at the dinner table. I was like, okay, I don't want to leave like they eat at the dinner table. Okay, I want to stay. So that was I never told them that. I never like showed it because I was still I was scared to death. As soon as I walked in house. I was scared to death. It was it's me and everybody eyes on me. Now I'm like all right, okay, like what am we gonna do? And I was just spooked the whole time.

00:04:36
Speaker 4: Was spooked.

00:04:37
Speaker 2: Were you like like before that or were you around like wrong groups of people or are you like getting into trouble?

00:04:43
Speaker 1: Yeah?

00:04:43
Speaker 3: I was getting into trouble around the room people. I was always getting suspended from school. I used to never like come home. I used to just end up showing back to showing back up to school the next day, just because like football, I was always good at football. I was actually just getting becoming better at football, and I knew that was just a way I can cope with all the problems at home, or.

00:05:06
Speaker 4: Like just to get my mind off everything.

00:05:08
Speaker 3: Football was my passion and the way I can just cope with a lot of stuff. So I used to never go home and I should just be out with the wrong people, and just I knew the next day how to get to school, whether I walked or whether I rolled with somebody, but I was always at school the next day and just like there for football, like I couldn't miss football. It was like like my dad he made it so strict of like you can't miss football, like you have to do this, like football is that had like a kind of a structure of my life to what like I know, like I can't miss this or I can't play like.

00:05:43
Speaker 4: So that that's pretty much what it was.

00:05:45
Speaker 2: You and you think too, like if you're if you're in like the wrong crowds or you're getting into trouble or anything like that, you would think I would almost assume that you almost wouldn't have had the mentality of Okay, there he is a dinner table.

00:05:57
Speaker 1: I want to sit here.

00:05:57
Speaker 2: I want to be here, like knowing that this is the right thing for where you Do you feel like you even even though you were hanging around wrong look like wrong groups and in the wrong situations, do you feel like you were always somebody that kind of was like sitting back and seeing, like, you know, whether it's showing up to school the next day or being like I don't want necessarily want to be a part of this.

00:06:12
Speaker 1: I'm just kind of like this is just my association.

00:06:15
Speaker 3: That's what I was always thinking, Like, they'll go do some bad stuff, and I knew it was bad, but sometimes I can just get like pulled into it just because I'm around the wrong people and I knew it was the wrong thing to do, but I just did it just because of like that's all I knew at the time.

00:06:32
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:06:33
Speaker 3: I always used to be like, oh no, like this can give me a trouble for football, I can't play, But I still used to do it, and I used to get away with it, and until that last time, I didn't get away with anything.

00:06:45
Speaker 4: So I just dealt with that that for like a year.

00:06:49
Speaker 1: Are you a going to talk about the last time? I prefer not to talk about it.

00:06:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fine, But it was just like I can tell you like the situation. Definitely, I'm happy I made it when I was young, and now that I'm older, it makes me more careful about every decision I make, whether that's buying food at the store or whether that's going someplace like just to get food, Like it makes me think three times before I do anything.

00:07:16
Speaker 2: So you're in Bo's relationship, talk about that when you move into the house. You guys obviously want to stay titled together.

00:07:22
Speaker 3: So standing all right, stand with Bo? Was Bo was always serious, still is serious to this day. Like he was he was a kid in high school, like nobody wanted to talk to, Like he was scary. He was like my dad for real, like seriously, like he was always like in school, he's doing his homework, he's at baseball, or he's at football, like he was already a college student in high school.

00:07:45
Speaker 4: Like he was just a pro, a pro at a young age.

00:07:48
Speaker 3: And you could just tell, like kudos to my dad and my parents, Like my parents like they raised him to be this this well kid, and everybody knows, like he was a baby, he was bad, like like that's how he grew up.

00:07:59
Speaker 4: Like he was he was a hard headed kid.

00:08:01
Speaker 3: But yeah, as he got older, you can just tell like he was raised to be all right, you got to be a pro to everything you do.

00:08:07
Speaker 4: You have to do this, And me, I'm looking at that at a young age.

00:08:10
Speaker 3: Now when I moved in with him, I'm like, Okay, if he can do it, I can do it, Like you know, like I was trying to follow in his footsteps, but it is at a different position. But before he got there, I was at quarterback. So I moved to dB and you look at them highlights. I was a little I can talk nice, but seriousness I was. I was the receiver, scared to death and like the stuff he used to do. And he used to just tell me. I just always believed, and I knew I couldn't drop a pass from him. Like if I dropped the pass from him, I feel like I let everybody down, especially him, because he was just so like I said, he was just so top tier in high school, like he was this guy, he was the number one quarterback.

00:08:51
Speaker 4: He was missed football like he had all sorts of records.

00:08:54
Speaker 3: But in the back of my head, I'm like, okay, I can do that too, Like what if I get in that picture and break a record or something like that. But my first game, I go out there against Hoover High School. We played George Pickens and everybody you know, like.

00:09:07
Speaker 1: Georgia the two days school.

00:09:08
Speaker 3: Oh my goodness at Hoover, like he was a man of mons boys. I didn't watched George Pickens do some stuff in high school.

00:09:15
Speaker 4: Like it was.

00:09:16
Speaker 3: It was crazy crazy. So we go out there and playing on ESPN for the this is my very first game.

00:09:20
Speaker 4: I'm starting.

00:09:21
Speaker 1: I'm one thirty.

00:09:21
Speaker 3: It's your first game, first game in high school, like actually playing starting like ESPN.

00:09:26
Speaker 4: We played the.

00:09:27
Speaker 3: Hoover matt where they played the College World Series, like like I'm in the game and I'm one thirty, soaking wet, and I'm I'm balling, like I'm out there balling. I was the first touchdown for like the whole four the whole the whole game was the first touchdown until at the end they took all their good players out. We got beat fifty five to fourteams, but.

00:09:47
Speaker 1: We got beat bad. I'm balling.

00:09:50
Speaker 4: I had like twelve catches.

00:09:51
Speaker 3: I had like one hundred and twelve yards in a touchdown for like the whole game, and right then there I knew, okay, I can play like I can play a little bit.

00:09:58
Speaker 4: I had little confidence, but I was still timid and scared. I didn't know the game.

00:10:02
Speaker 3: I was just running out there, running routes, playing catching. They used to tell me, Like in high school, my dad used to call plays like menu nine, T whip or T did because I didn't understand the concepts at the time. But Bo and my dad took upon himself, like when both left, my dad and my little brother Caleb worked with me more like learning plays and just being able to understand, like where you need to be. There was no more why you need to be there? Yeah, why I need to be there? Like it was no more a T whip or T dig or T corner. It was like Menu nine H posts all right, nah, I no, Like I'm the age now, I'm the post guy. I'm finna take the top off the defense now, Like I knew that and like and that helped me so so much, Like in the long run and now that I can see everything, everything moves slow for me now and like high school was, I feel like high school we was the sixth A, but the coaches we had was college coaches, like my dad was like straight hard nose still is like hard nos, like you're gonna have to do it this way or you cannot play like and you have to buy in. And I bought in and it's been doing me justice whole Yeah.

00:11:11
Speaker 2: Man, talk about because your recruiting journey is obviously different than Bo's Bow's goes Auburn for for four years, you start off and go to Troy. Talk about your recruiting journey and getting to Troy. Were you were you tight that you weren't more recruited coming out of high school? No?

00:11:25
Speaker 4: I was.

00:11:25
Speaker 3: Actually I kind of like knew, like towards the end of my senior year, like all right, I'm a small guy, but like I can play like I knew colleges was not going to take chances on me, and Tennessee almost took a chance on me.

00:11:40
Speaker 4: Kentucky almost took a chance on me.

00:11:41
Speaker 1: Damn Tennessee.

00:11:46
Speaker 3: I can't remember the coach, was it Stoops or something? Or that's Kentucky. That's Kentucky. That's Kentucky.

00:11:51
Speaker 1: So what year was this?

00:11:53
Speaker 4: Twenty twenty?

00:11:54
Speaker 1: Who's that couch? Twenty twenty? Prew it, prew it, It was prew it.

00:11:57
Speaker 3: Jeremy Prouy and was on the phone and we was a Lee Lee Levin and Tennessee and we got on the phone with him. He was just asking can I do puvertunism or whatnot. He didn't take me. So I went to a camp in Kentucky with my coach coach Hat, and they offered me at Kentucky and they pulled it at the last second.

00:12:15
Speaker 1: Is because somebody else committed there.

00:12:17
Speaker 3: Somebody else committed there before me, and I wanted to commit.

00:12:20
Speaker 4: And I remember in the.

00:12:20
Speaker 3: Car, I was like, Dad, I just want to wait. My dad was like, you have to pick somewhere to go. It's up to you. Like you can make your own choice, but you had to pick somewhere to go. And I knew coach Lindsey very well, Like Coach Lindsay was at Auburn for the first time, like he was like when I knew him. He was at Arburn and he was on the GUS milesone and he went to Troy and I was like, okay. He called me one day. I was like, what are you doing. I was like, Coach, I'm eating dinner. Like I'm just eating dinner with my family. He was like, go ahead and commit and come here and just ball out. I hung up the phone and I committed, Like that's how that's how well. I knew coach Lindsay and he was an empty sat and I got them in my freshman year. And he had a guy by the name of Rusty Way in the weight room, and he literally Rusty with put the foundation of me, like for his strength. Like people look at me now like I'm little, but you go into the weight room, I'm squading five hundred or I'm dad lifting.

00:13:15
Speaker 4: I can put four or five on the.

00:13:16
Speaker 3: Over exactually put I can put four and five in repid and I can clean two ninety five.

00:13:23
Speaker 1: Okay, I'm dead serious. You guys believe you.

00:13:26
Speaker 4: I believe that.

00:13:28
Speaker 3: Like like I'm like, he put the foundation for his strength on me.

00:13:32
Speaker 2: He's letting motherfuckers know, like you might listen like, hey, don't get it twisted.

00:13:38
Speaker 1: I can do it. I can do something the weight room.

00:13:40
Speaker 3: It's just like and like when I enter college and Boat went to Arburn, I wouldn't necessarily like thinking like, Okay, I'm gonna beat back.

00:13:48
Speaker 4: Up with him again.

00:13:49
Speaker 3: My my my always thought process was I'm gonna go to Troy and I'm Finna show everybody like I supposed to be at a big, big college and my dad supported me, like cluse to my dad, he kept me in a statementally to where like I've never went into like a shell and like realized do I belong? Like I went in there confident as a freshman, thinking like I'm a senior, like this is my spot, this is where I put belong, this is where I stayed, and.

00:14:17
Speaker 4: He like gosh, he just made me so much better, like he didn't know, he don't know how to ever let you feed into your doubts, like you.

00:14:25
Speaker 3: Know, like because not saying it wasn't doubts there, but he took my my mind completely away from it. Like I went there and I was behind Kaitlyn Geiger and a guy.

00:14:37
Speaker 4: Named Trey I forgot his last name, but they was really good.

00:14:41
Speaker 3: Kayln Gogy transferred to Texas Tech and I got the opportunity to play, and ever since then, the balls started coming to me and like the quarterback knew like I'm the type of guy like I'm gonna know my quarterback before they learned out who I am. If he if his arm is like not big is what they supposed to be I'm not gonna run my fasts on the deep ball because it's gonna be on the thrown right, So I'm gonna make it look like it's on the money and catch it over my shoulder. And literally they know like those little things I took pridey in, like who, I don't care who the quarterback is, Like who you was, Like, that's that's just me. I'm gonna I'm gonna know you before you know me. You gonna know I can run her out. You gonna know that I can catch a football because that's my job. That's what I'm supposed to do. But like it's the little things for me for a quarterback.

00:15:27
Speaker 2: Did you did you always think about using Troy to get to the next thing?

00:15:32
Speaker 4: Uh?

00:15:34
Speaker 2: Probably, like to know, and maybe even the coaches at Troy would think the same thing. Like I feel like when I talk to coaches that I know now that I might have you know, had at Nebraska that are at a smaller school and they're the way that they recruit, They'll be, hey, come here for a couple of years.

00:15:46
Speaker 1: You can now hit the portal, Like just use us to get to the next thing.

00:15:49
Speaker 3: Like it wasn't necessarily that I didn't know about PFF throughout my whole college career into that, like that last two years at Troy, like I didn't know about any of that stuff. Like they used to be like PFF, hey you ranked number one O you you dober two behind Marvin Harrison. I'm like, bro, what is that? Like what is PFF. They're like that's player of football focused, Like you don't know what that is. I'm like, no, I never really like I'm not into the like media and like just excuse me, like going out there and just like looking at me, like what am I ranked? Like on im a five hole? Let's try to get no more.

00:16:19
Speaker 4: No, I wasn't.

00:16:19
Speaker 3: I was just out there playing and literally they know like I was at Troy with Organ gloves.

00:16:24
Speaker 4: On, Like like I got a.

00:16:27
Speaker 3: Picture with me with Organ gloves on in the Troy uniform. Like that's how bad I loved Organ, Like I wanted to go to Organ this whole time, like throughout my whole life. Everybody know I'm an Organ fan, like my family, my oldest brother, like my biological oldest brother Auburn fan. My youngest brother is an Ohio State fan. I don't know if he comes to the game. I'm sorry, but like and I'm an Organ fan. Me and my stepdad's Organ. Who got you on the organ? Showed you a game or.

00:16:53
Speaker 1: Something like that.

00:16:53
Speaker 3: Like like my stepdad used to come in like at the work because you know Oregon down South, they come on later, right, So I to sneak up late and watch the games as my mom told us to go to bed for school and watch Organ and Danthen Thomas, oh Man like Key's. He was a little guy and I was a little guy too, but I didn't know about waiting and stuff like that, but he was.

00:17:14
Speaker 4: He was doing stuff out there.

00:17:15
Speaker 3: I used to go try out against like my homeboys outside and like and I knew used to never get tackled, never get tackled. I'm until like I'm so tired, I'm gonna just get a ball up, Like okay, you can have the ball. But I used to mimic who Pharaoh Brown, Danthon Thomas like all those guys.

00:17:32
Speaker 4: Like I used to just go out there and try to mimic.

00:17:34
Speaker 3: And then my stepdad was like he look at this jersey they got on this week or there, come out here with this jersey. I'm like, oh my goodness like now like when I was a young age, it was like d entherther Thomas and the jerseys, like okay, I want to go there, Like every day I used to beg for, like a Orgon hoodie, like an Oregon hoodie. I used to just beg for it, just beg for. And I finally got one when I was like going through like I was leaving middle school. I got an organ hood I never took it off, like I ever took it off.

00:18:00
Speaker 4: I don't.

00:18:00
Speaker 3: I don't even think I watched that thing, which I don't even think I used to watch that thing, like I used to like just wear it like they know, like everybody who knows me from knee high on to now the normal organ fan.

00:18:14
Speaker 2: I'm a diehard organ fan, like and they probably watched it like this man is legitimately living.

00:18:19
Speaker 4: Living, living it.

00:18:21
Speaker 3: And then it's so real to me because when I entered the portal, I'm like, okay, up on, like you can see my comments. It got duck emojis, and I'm like, okay, maybe it can, maybe it can happen. Not not even seeing signs I'm thinking of, Like I text Bowl and I'm like, hey, bo, you think we're going to take me.

00:18:39
Speaker 1: This is him joking.

00:18:40
Speaker 3: I tell the story every time because it's so funny to me. This is around Christmas time, Like I text him like, hey, bo, you think or going to take me? He text me, nah, probably not. Like he crushed my dreams. I'm like, okay, crushing, I'm thinking low.

00:18:55
Speaker 2: You can't put in a good Okay, you supposed to be brothers, but like but nah, I'm thinking now, I'm thinking low, like Memphis, like just lower schools.

00:19:05
Speaker 4: I can just stay down south and I can. I kid you not.

00:19:08
Speaker 3: Like the next day, when my name officially entered the portal, I get a miscall for my mom, like two of them, and I got thirteen or twelve misscalls and it's all from like big ten schools, Big ten and Pac twelve. But it's not one of them from Oregon. I think the first one called me was Nebraska. Nah, not Nebraska. I'm gonna say Wisconsin. Wisconsin called me. That's the first uh call I really answered. Then they offered me, and then Penn State, then Oklahoma State, and then it started rolling UCLA. I'm like, all right, now it's starting to roll. My mom was like, hey, you need to pick up the phone. Did you put my number on the transfer? I'm like, yes, ma'am. I didn't really know. I just signed the paper. I like at this point, like I fulfill, like I'm into it. Like I was so scared entering. I tasted my dad like that, I'm really scared, Like just pray on it. And I prayed what made you scared?

00:19:59
Speaker 2: To joy the portal of thing, fact that you're leaving Troy and letting people down, or like damn, is anybody gonna want me?

00:20:04
Speaker 4: Uh that?

00:20:05
Speaker 3: Both of them like so when I leaving Troy, like Troy fan based, like I love Troy. Troy supported me in so many ways. It was it was unreal. Every time I go back down south, I go to Troy just because the people they supported me so much throughout thinking. Then because the first half of the season that last year I was there, I was hurt, separated my clavicle and it was it was just all bad.

00:20:29
Speaker 1: And then I came back up state.

00:20:31
Speaker 3: We lost some college game day don't want to talk about it, but I came back in it. But we won a championship. Then the support from the Troy fans was unreal. The student section is unreal, like, but I just felt like I fulfill my destiny and I was kind of scared of leaving them. And then I thought and then I was like, Okay, now who's gonna take me?

00:20:49
Speaker 4: Now I'm going through this process.

00:20:51
Speaker 3: I think I'm going through this process again of like who's gonna take me? I'm still a little guy, but because at Troy, I'm gonna put it out there. At Troy, I was one forty five playing, so can we like I got there one thirty five playing as a true freshman, Like I'm I'm just out there running scared and scared, like trying to get here. Yeah, just trying not to get here, still trying to not get here, don't get me wrong, still trying to get hit.

00:21:13
Speaker 4: But I'm I'm still a little gud there running around.

00:21:15
Speaker 3: But I was just scared of just leaving and nobody taking me and going through the process again. Now I'm just back to square one, right, But then again, now we're at the dinner table.

00:21:25
Speaker 4: Bow comes in the house with a bag but he won't let me see it.

00:21:28
Speaker 3: And I get a call from coach Junior Adams and I think it's a Cali area code. I want to say it's a Calid area code, and I'm answering the phone. I'm like hello, like Norman, Hello. I'm like I'm thinking this, Like who I'm thinking of this? I forgot who I'm thinking that. I'm thinking it's texts in them because they just follow me on Twitter. So I'm like, all right, takes infit off of me. So he called me, but it's a Calid area code. I should have known. Like that's not like he text in. I should have known that. So I answered. He was like, hey, this is Junior Adam from Oregon, and I was like, what a pause. He's talking in my ear. But I'm looking at my mom like this or like it's Organ. Like Mom is like it's so real. They on the phone and he was like, we want to offer your scholarship with this. Something you wanna do? I said, coach, I'm committed, Like that's the next words in my mouth, Like I don't care who else offered me after this, I'm committing.

00:22:16
Speaker 4: I'm going to Organ.

00:22:17
Speaker 3: Like it's don'tky how far where it is. It could have been in somewhere else down farther than where it is now, but I'm going to Organ. I'm going out there and by this time I didn't know Bo was staying. I'm thinking he leave him to the NFL. I'm still not not in my head. I'm still thinking like, okay, I'm going out there by myself all along, and then the video comes out he's back. I'm like, oh, not in the world and the no like it's this is gonna be crazy because us together is an' oh my goodness, that's like that's like putting jumper cables on the wrong way, Like you know what I'm saying, Like like me and both together some it's some serious like and just being able to get the organ with him again and was like in breaking records again and not knowing I was on the road to breaking the record anyway, because he always kept my mind away from everything and he still do.

00:23:06
Speaker 4: He'll text me every other day and be like you suck like you know him, Yeah you're not.

00:23:11
Speaker 3: Him, like like you just and that's his way of saying, stay humble, don't feed into the media. And I still thank him of that. But as soon as I committed, he come out with an organ shirt to gloves and some shorts. I'm like, you knew the whole time, Like you knew the whole time. You could have told me some of my hopes wouldn't get up or something like, he could have told me. I was just waiting it like I'm sitting there like my dreams are crushed. I'm never going to organ And then I get the phone call. He got the he got the gloves for me. It was the pink breast cancer gloves they wore from U. C.

00:23:45
Speaker 2: L A.

00:23:45
Speaker 3: Yeah, now it was time to Now I'm going to put some drip on and I'm the best dripper in college.

00:23:51
Speaker 2: I can tell you that right now. You number one, number one, number one. I don't care no one close second. Who's out there? Whose game you respect? Who's aim I respect?

00:24:01
Speaker 3: Just hands down, Like if I turn on the film, who who the guy I want to watch? Hands drip, drip wise or take dew tank Dell, tank Dell, got some drip on them, Stephan Diggs, dude, But you're.

00:24:15
Speaker 2: Number one in college. There's nobody you see in college that kind of camp.

00:24:18
Speaker 4: Put nobody else.

00:24:19
Speaker 3: And you can go to my profile you can see like I got that drip on everything color coordinated, but I'm an offset it with the moutheace.

00:24:25
Speaker 4: I'm gonna messing up with the mouths.

00:24:26
Speaker 3: I'm telling him every time, I'm I'm gonna do something totally different. Something you think you saw, but it's different. Oh no, wait, now he got the spat on the one. I may need to do that. You can't do that.

00:24:39
Speaker 4: You can't. You just gotta put a little splat on it.

00:24:41
Speaker 5: You can't.

00:24:41
Speaker 4: I can't do too much. You can't do too much. But you can do it though.

00:24:47
Speaker 2: Oh he's electric, bro, He's electric, dude? Could it outside of obviously you guys you want to win the PAC twelfth title, and outside of your two losses?

00:24:57
Speaker 1: Could it? Could it have went any better for you? Nah?

00:25:01
Speaker 2: I feel like record and what receptions? Third most yards in a single season, and you're growing up loving the Anthony Thomas Like you're mimicking these guys, and now you hold a record.

00:25:13
Speaker 1: I couldn't have worked out any better for you.

00:25:16
Speaker 4: It was. It was.

00:25:16
Speaker 3: It's so real me actually going out here and racing death and Thomas a beaning was so real for me. Like he got out here in the lineup and off the line, I got Hi'm like, yeah he probably.

00:25:25
Speaker 4: Just oh right now, his knees.

00:25:27
Speaker 3: He lost a little step in I'm still I'm still a little young guy, but now it's so real, like it could have got any better way than what it is. God writes his story in so many ways, and every day I remind myself to live in his presence and give thanks to him because it's only possible because of him. So me saying the record was because I feel like that's the.

00:25:48
Speaker 1: Quarterback, your brother. You got your brother back in the pocket. You know I'm closer to.

00:25:56
Speaker 3: It was No, it was just one of the things, like one of my my teammate, my rooms, my receiver room is so supportive of me, Trot Franklin, Coach Adams. They they taught me so much as far as courages and knowing who's in knowing who can guard you, who can't guard you, which nobody can guard me, not on me, not on the big ass stuff, but like that's how I carry myself every day. But just knowing, like who's gonna be out there going to you on this play, who's going to be sea hawk, double team you on this play? Knowing how to beat it, like Troy Franklin taught me so much in his years here. It's it's so real, but we're gonna get washed the back. Don't don't worry about it. It's it's okay. Last game I've seen, see you to night. We got something coming for y'all.

00:26:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, what can we What can we expect this upcoming season? Generation generational?

00:26:44
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm telling you right now, nobody in the country got the stuff like Orgon, nobody. We touch it first, and y'all get it right after us. That's what y'all gonna get it right after us every time. Every time we touch it first. Every time you see something new, we touched it first, way before even hit the net.

00:26:59
Speaker 1: So yo, he's a juice.

00:27:03
Speaker 2: How about Uh? So you got you had Bowl last year? You have Dylan Gabriel this year. What have you seen so far out of him?

00:27:09
Speaker 1: Uh?

00:27:10
Speaker 2: You take a lot of pride in on the quarterback before they know you, Like, what have you seen?

00:27:13
Speaker 3: He's electric, He's a more he's more of a receiver type of mindset guy. Like I say that because he talks trash. You know what I'm saying. Okay, Oh, okay, he threw a whole shot completed.

00:27:28
Speaker 4: You like that?

00:27:28
Speaker 1: Huh?

00:27:29
Speaker 3: Okay, Like, let's do it like he's a he's a good quarterback. He's smart. You love to compete. That's one thing I see from Like Bow's a silent assassin. Yeah, like you know he's gonna pick you apart, and like you're gonna have to respect him at the end of the game, Like you're gonna walk up to him shake his hand, like, oh you're good dealing' gonna let you know he's good while he throwing that ball, Like he go ball, Lefty, that's a dot. Yeah, here go, Like let's let's keep it rolling. Like Delan is a deal's a guy. He's really good.

00:27:55
Speaker 4: He's he's goofy bro like he's in the locker room.

00:27:58
Speaker 3: The difference between them like bows like bows a like I said, he's a pro. Like you'll see him one of two times, like in the locker room and he'll crack jokes and then get out and then get to.

00:28:12
Speaker 1: His means do his thing.

00:28:13
Speaker 3: Dylan, he's one of the bros. Like he's gonna be in there, he gonna get everything. He gonna get everything done early, then chill with us in the locker room. You know what I'm saying, Like he's he want to be a part of the team. Whi's not saying that they don't want to be a part of the team like he's he was way a part of the team.

00:28:27
Speaker 4: He always said something to.

00:28:28
Speaker 3: A different personality. Yeah, he's just it's just different. Like we see dialing in the locker room every day. He come in there and he'll yell just for no reason. He go here you go, and he carries that to the field. Yeah, he sways the drippiest quarterback in college. But I don't think so right now. He got to put something on, like he he got some tattoos in the tattoos make up for you know what I'm saying.

00:28:53
Speaker 4: But he gotta put something on.

00:28:54
Speaker 1: You gotta get him right now.

00:28:56
Speaker 4: I don't think I can get him right though. I think it's the helmet.

00:29:00
Speaker 3: Bro's device is is fat in his head already?

00:29:03
Speaker 4: Like why so you gotta like it's come.

00:29:06
Speaker 2: Do you try to put him on game? Like, do you try and help him out? Yeah, because sometimes that's all you need. You need your teammate to come up to kind of h It's like, hey, you know, it's okay if you do.

00:29:14
Speaker 3: See he do the he do the opposite. See, I'm gonna cover my whole left side. He's gonna cover this leg in this arm like he's gonna he's gonna do an alternate. I'm gonna keep it the same side, keep it simple, don't touch this side like I don't.

00:29:28
Speaker 4: He's he's dripped though, he's he got a little drip.

00:29:31
Speaker 2: Any white boys with some swag on the team tier terres Ferguson he got some drip?

00:29:38
Speaker 1: Is that natural?

00:29:39
Speaker 2: Y'all have to help him out like myself and be like, hey, Kyle, can't let you walking out there like.

00:29:42
Speaker 4: You got the movies on, I'm messing with the newbies.

00:29:44
Speaker 3: You got the nebies on the five, I got them at the crib right now, he got the newbies on.

00:29:49
Speaker 4: I like them right there. I got a lot of movies. I got a mobie collection.

00:29:52
Speaker 1: Just start fucking showing it off.

00:29:54
Speaker 2: If he was hating on me, I say in the airport, Oh, bro, come on, you can't hate on movies.

00:30:00
Speaker 4: Bro, The movies good. But now Calae Castle got some drip.

00:30:03
Speaker 1: What you think of what you think of his shues show Adidas.

00:30:06
Speaker 3: Now we can't mess with this man. When we had Nike, we had Nike head quarters almost basically with those so I mean, yeah, t Firt got some drip on them.

00:30:15
Speaker 4: Who else.

00:30:17
Speaker 3: You got, Kyla Casper. Kyla Casper got some drip. But he's just tall. He got tattooed, so it just looked good, you know what I'm saying. It looked like, oh gosh, what's his name from, Ricky Piersong from Florida, That's what he looked like.

00:30:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Taylor, who's not here. I mean he's got he's tatted everywhere, that white boy, Yes, everywhere, whole body, whole body, leg Yeah, my boy, Bucky was okay. Bucky was a dripper too, though, Bucky Bucky every Okay, Bucky.

00:30:46
Speaker 3: Put some drip on, bucket, put everything on. But his clee game is gonna be crazy. And then outside of that, he's gonna be so simple with a sweatsuit. But the shoe game, you're gonna have to look and be like yours. Oh, but he's like like, you're gonna be like, oh okay, Now he's gonna upset you with something.

00:31:01
Speaker 4: It's gonna be crazy. That's all you need a little simple but somebody, some subtle.

00:31:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, your favorite purchase.

00:31:07
Speaker 2: We're now in the nil generation. What's been your favorite purchase so far?

00:31:11
Speaker 4: My favorite purchase?

00:31:15
Speaker 2: You know, you get to the NFL. They talk about your first pay check, what you what's the first a ball? What's the favorite thing you know? If you purchase? I got to, I ain't gonna.

00:31:23
Speaker 4: I got to.

00:31:23
Speaker 3: I gotta rolax bust down in the Coddy Yeah, Cuddy, yea watch bro, I ain't gonna.

00:31:30
Speaker 1: I got that.

00:31:30
Speaker 3: And I got my chain, the tas Mania chain with my area code hooked up to it, so like, I mean, I got you.

00:31:36
Speaker 1: Come correct, Yeah, I gotta come. I stepped.

00:31:38
Speaker 3: I stepped simple though I'm gonna. If I would have chained, I'm not willing to watch. If I would have watched, I might bust the chain just because I got the suit on.

00:31:46
Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm sayings on the night.

00:31:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, depending on how it shakes my hand and pops out in the light, hit it, you might see some vvs in Yah, my bad, I'm sorry. But other than that, I mean I'm pretty them three right there? I got three, my bad, not just one.

00:31:59
Speaker 1: Okay, but I had to.

00:32:00
Speaker 4: I'm chilling right now.

00:32:01
Speaker 3: No, I'm cool intil the season come, and then when the season comes, jump off, jump off. Well, I might cool during the season, get the drive day and then set it all like I don't know, you know what I'm saying, I don't know.

00:32:12
Speaker 4: I don't know. I just got something.

00:32:14
Speaker 2: What uh? What's been your favorite part about playing for coach.

00:32:18
Speaker 3: Landing The consistent challenge he gives us, Like it's every day we got a new challenge. Okay, he challenges us. He challenged us every single day, Like he'll challenge you one day and say, hey man, we gotta finish strong or and then the next day everything we gotta be fast, Like all right, we go Like some days he'll switch up practice on it like completely different, like we'll see the schedule, but we'll go out there and have like say things is mind bracket on here? But no next thing, you know, we'll go out there and go straight to mama drill like we did today, like everybody know, like my bracket. That's hitting, Like we gotta go out there and hit like you gotta block something and yeah that's DNS linebackers.

00:32:58
Speaker 2: You like you getting the whole, the whole now, but you're blocking linebackers. It depends on what play better.

00:33:07
Speaker 3: It depends on what play it is like, it depends on it depends Yeah, I got a little better this year last year I was kind of hesitating. I wasn't, but now I stick my nose and now I catch them off guard, Like I gotta go in there quick and just let him know I'm there and then like try to hold him up. But once they know it's me on them, then they'll just take me and be like move.

00:33:26
Speaker 4: I'll be like okay, like you know, I mean I'm on their way long enough, yeah, getting the long enough.

00:33:31
Speaker 3: He hit the premier. You can't get there now. But I mean I did my jobs. I mean yeah, I mean it's yeah. He just challenged us like just being the best version of ourselves every day. Like he's tough. You're gonna see it, like, like you like us as an offensive, we're killing this defense. He's a defensive coach. I'm gonna say, if we're killing this defense, you can look back at him. He get mad, like okay, you think they do this again? Like the next day, that same play we try to run is boxed up. She was like, all right, he's a script that rift that you script that He.

00:34:01
Speaker 1: Back there all like yeah, nah nah.

00:34:04
Speaker 3: Now we're finna go over there and tell coach Stein, you know, let's call this because we know he's gonna play seahawk here. Okay, we're gonna run past him and he gonna get he gonna get living.

00:34:12
Speaker 4: But it's they.

00:34:12
Speaker 3: Feel like the players are like on offense play against coach Lantic because like you know, like he he can call it coach tads over there call and like were playing against them, also were playing against the player. But like his like his creativeness on defense is so real, like he'll he'll show you one coverage, then it's a whole different coverage.

00:34:33
Speaker 4: Every time we checked, they checked.

00:34:35
Speaker 3: If we don't check, they still checking, like they gonna key like safe in some emotion. They gonna keep me the whole time. They gonna bump it or push it like they gonna they're gonna show something. They gonna they gonna show like they're finna drop eight, but bring three people that we can't block, and uh now it's just sat.

00:34:52
Speaker 4: Now we're gonna look back and be like where you get that from?

00:34:54
Speaker 2: Bro?

00:34:55
Speaker 4: Like like is that even real? Like like it's it's stuff like that.

00:34:59
Speaker 3: But he's he's a consistent like challenger, like he gonna challenge you with everything, and he don't care how big the challenge is.

00:35:05
Speaker 4: Let's see if you can do it.

00:35:06
Speaker 3: You want to say you want to get here, all right, let's see what you got what it takes to be there.

00:35:10
Speaker 4: So that's what we like about him.

00:35:12
Speaker 2: Has Bro, thank you for this conversation. This is a lot of fun. You brought a lot of good energy, a lot of good the conversation. But I appreciate it, Bro. I appreciate you sharing the stuff in the beginning, and it's it's really cool to see where you're at now. And all though up to you this year, Bro, you guys do well. Unless you played Nebraska, I hope we played Dylan Gabriel bro. First question, getting permission to wear number eight? It was that a conversation with Marcus. I played with Marcus for a year in uh in Tennessee and then a year in Vegas. He put yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no. I was after demarct after he put us on Sushi Pure last night for the spot to eat as he said that was his favorite was his favorite spot.

00:36:00
Speaker 5: But what was it like, Yeah, purple rice, it's a real deal.

00:36:05
Speaker 2: Getting permission from him to wear a numbreak? Was that was that an ordeal or was that just a sole conversation?

00:36:10
Speaker 5: It was an Ordeal. I think it was just more out of respect, uh, coming from the Islands, Like he's the guy we you know, kind of looked up to, and he kind of set the stage for all the quarterbacks coming up, not only quarterbacks, players in general. And you know, I wore aid at Oklahoma, but once I came here, you know, I kind of told the coach. I was like, hey, you know, how to respect you know, I'll probably wear you know, a new number or something like that. And then I don't know, just kind of rethought it because Landy said some something cool about how I like, how special that would be and ended up texting them and then next thing, you know, uh just said, hey, can I wear it? You know, just want to get his uh okay, And then once I did, it's it's special.

00:36:54
Speaker 2: So he was like he Marcus was the guy I bet when you're you're coming up watching him play at Oregon, yeah, you.

00:37:00
Speaker 5: Uh you had him, You had Tao, yep, we had Mantai, him, DeForest Buckner who played here kind of a lot, even you know Hawaii guys as well, kind of who we you know, looked up at u Ah. But yeah, all in all, Marcus was definitely the you know HEADHUNTERO.

00:37:19
Speaker 2: So take us through your recruiting journey. You've obviously had a fascinating one. You've you've bounced around. I want to say I.

00:37:25
Speaker 1: Was reading when you were you did?

00:37:28
Speaker 2: You were? You committed the Army. I was committed Army. Go visit somewhere else? Do you commit? You visited a couple of schools, I think bigger schools, and then end up at UCF. Talk about your recruiting journey coming out of high school.

00:37:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, so coming out, I didn't have anything really. I had the three academies and University of Hawaii. I just wanted to, you know, try something new and go off the island. So funny enough. Jeff Monkin, who's the head coach at Army and who still is, was my dad's GA at the University of Hawaii when he was playing quarterback. Coach Kenny new Montalolo was my dad's backup and Paul Johnson was my dad JOC. So the trip option, you know, my dad was all around it. But that connection kind of happened. I visited Army, ended up committing in the summer prior to my senior year. Then kind of season went on. I love I love it, you know, I love this story. But you know, I remember watching a game in Army only through it three times, and I just you know, looked at my dad and I was like, man, I think I really want to throw the ball and you know, play ball a different way. So ended up, you know, de committing, uh kind of like you know, towards the back end of my high school, my senior year of high school, and then you know, oddly enough, things just started firing off and everyone jokes around, they think it's because, uh there's a passing record in Hawaii, and I ended up beating TUA, and Georgia obviously was playing Bama, and uh another full circle moment. Coach Landing was at Georgia, but Georgia offered me UCF and USC and kind of went on those three visits right before that December signing day and all three of them said, hey, you got to be here in January, and I really wasn't prepared for that. So I ended up taking you know, four online classes within a two week period, signed with UCF, and then I was there on January third. So it just it all happened really fast. I'm blessed and very happy. It did, but definitely a funny timeline.

00:39:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, was there friction when you were decommitting from army with your with your old man.

00:39:36
Speaker 5: There wasn't you know, their family and they always will be, you know, just with that connection with my dad and then coach Sean Satnio. He's another guy that you know, I still keep in contact with who's just been you know, really that guy who's also come from Hawaii and tries to look out for Hawaii players. So when I had that, I was, you know, not not bugged at all. They're very kind. Then obviously knew that, you know, I was going to go play at a different school.

00:40:03
Speaker 1: Why UCF over Georgia and USC.

00:40:07
Speaker 5: At the time, I just wanted to play, you know, I've always kind of put that at the forefront of what I want to do. I want to go play the game, so I love to do And you know, not saying I couldn't have played at Georgia or USC, It's just at the time UCF was having an open competition and I was like, Hey, as long as I got a shot or a chance, like an opportunity, then I willna go make it happen. And at the time, justin Fields and Jake Fowler are still at Georgia. J T. Daniels was still a freshman at USC Don't saying I'm not saying I'm old. I'm just saying that was at the time, and you know I looked at, you know, at UCF, my buddy Mackenzie Milton was injured that year and they said, you know, there's open competition. So I was like, let's go do it.

00:40:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, you had a couple of good years at UCF were you were you injured?

00:40:55
Speaker 5: I did my third year.

00:40:56
Speaker 1: Your third year before you hit the portal, right, yep.

00:40:59
Speaker 5: I got injured that third game against.

00:41:00
Speaker 1: Talk about that.

00:41:01
Speaker 2: Was there a lot of doubt creeping in on coming back from the injury, being able to you know, move on put another season together.

00:41:09
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:41:09
Speaker 5: I think it was my first injury in college, real injury, like I at fractured my color bone, which i'd done in high school. You know, kind of one of those lizard deals where you just kind of let it heal back up and then you know, get the strength back. But I think at the time I was so you know, fixated and said, on, you know, maybe this could be the year to you know, go and do it. Right, And I think God has a great way of kind of keeping you present and humbling you, but also just kind of the storm I needed right in that time period of my life. And I think it changed the trajectory of my life as well. You're just seeing different life in a different perspective, you know, being sidelined for the first time, and in my career, you know, playing as a freshman in high school on varsity, playing all four years and then end up starting again at UCF as a freshman. So that third year, I feel like just gave me a different perspective and really changed my outlook on just being a good teammate in a different way. And I think that's helped me. You know, all up until this point.

00:42:12
Speaker 1: When did you know you're going to hit the portal?

00:42:15
Speaker 5: I had a clue kind of like that last two weeks of the season, you know, when I got injured, I was just focused on getting healthy, trying to get strength back, and then I remember talking with my family like, Hey, what are we going to do? You know, like what's kind of the next step? And I hadn't really thought about it, and just as the season went on, I just felt like, you know, I wanted to be challenged. I wanted to try something new and being an offense that could potentially push me to continue to get better. How to Oklahoma another crazy story. So yeah, definitely recruiting stories. I've got a bunch of them. But coming out of UCF when I was transferring, I've been ed ole Miss, where my OC prior OC at UCF, coach Levy was at He went to ole Miss my first year. After my first year at u CF. Then after that visit, I felt like I was going to go to ole Miss, but Coach len Levy end up going to Oklahoma. When that happened, took a visit to u C l A and at the time really loved it, you know, and wanted to make it happen. So I ended up pulling the trigger and committing to UCLA. As that time went on, situations as that time went on, though, we just had conversations and I just really wanted to know what I was walking into, not knowing if DTR was coming back or not. You know, the quarterback room kind of had like a kind of unknown and you know, I was telling coach, hey, I just want to know what's kind of going on when I'm walking into. They couldn't clarify that and you know, kind of keep it up front and honest, which is totally fine. I just you know, more clarity and they kind of just know what you're walking into. I think that is not much to ask, but kind of up until that last date January third is when school started and I was supposed to be on a flight. Coach Levy ended up calling me January second and just said Boomer, and I'm like, what do you mean, coach? You know? And I don't know. After that, I ended up not taking the flight, not jumping in the class, and then I was a Sooner.

00:44:29
Speaker 1: So who is a Sooner? Is that? Is that coach still there?

00:44:32
Speaker 5: He is not now he's at the head coach a Mississippi State.

00:44:35
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, is that the reason you jumped in the portal again and you end up here?

00:44:40
Speaker 5: It is?

00:44:40
Speaker 1: But that recruiting story.

00:44:41
Speaker 5: So another time I think, you know, just God has been able to keep me present is I was again fixated on the NFL and like this is my last year. I had a very I guess, clearview vision of what I was going to do.

00:44:57
Speaker 2: But you're saying going play at Oklahoma and then go to the next level.

00:45:02
Speaker 5: And when that happened, I think everyone was under the same impression, right, you know, the or the school players, coaches, all that. So the preparation prior to that, I think was the same for everyone. So, you know, going into that season, I felt like, you know, we were doing damn good. We had two bumps in the road that definitely have you know, affected us, you know for the college football playoffs, but up into that last two games again where kind of conversations started to happen. I got my draft grade back, which was seven round undrafted, and I was like, dang, you know, I felt like in all you know, categories of whatever quarterback play it could be, you know, I felt like I was top five and I guess that's what I was presented. And when I got that, you know, seven round undrafted, I was like, you know what, I couldn't sleep at night, know when I had extra year that I could maximize and get better and have a guaranteed year of football, right and I don't want to say guaranteed, but at least the year to play. And I just wanted to maximize that. And like I said, with everyone having that preparation, of me not being back there for another year. I just felt like it was right and something that you know, I was excited about. Transferring is not easy, but it's just kind of how my journey went.

00:46:24
Speaker 2: And do you with the coach going to Mississippi State? Was that if he had stayed, would you say that you'd still be at Oklahoma or everything was just kind of like you were saying you were kind of the preparation was around you leaving.

00:46:36
Speaker 1: So it almost just felt like the end of the chapter. Anyway.

00:46:38
Speaker 5: I think it was a mixture. Okay, I think it was a mixture. I guess we'll never know, right if he did stay, But yeah, I think it was the perfect storm of where I needed to be and you know, the path that God has set out for me. I just trusted it, and you know I'm here now and should his big blessings.

00:46:56
Speaker 2: How was the psyche when you get the draft grade of seventh undrafted? Because I'm assuming, like, you know, you're excited about something, you're preparing for something, and then see something that's kind of like below what you thought it might be like take us through us through those moments.

00:47:10
Speaker 5: I mean, I understand it. You know it's the facts, So I'm not gonna you know, when I'm presented that, I feel like, you know, that's just what it is, right, right, and whether I like it or not, that's the facts. And you know, I had to live with it and make a decision based off of that, and she was just not the best feeling. You know. I think you when when as a player you produce and you know, put your play on the field, I feel like you're you know, your confidence and what you put out there is something that you are proud of, you know, and want to or not proud of. Right, Yeah, but I think that, you know, when I got that back, it's just it was disappointing, but also I went straight to making a decision and live on it.

00:47:56
Speaker 1: How do you identify organ as being the right place for you?

00:48:00
Speaker 5: H Three things? You know, offensive fit, uh, you know, guys around me, and then just being able to win. You know, I want to be in the big games, big time moments, and at you know, at this point in my career, I just feel like winnings everything, you know, that's that's all I want. How can I serve my teammates in the best way and lead and bring you know that positive energy every day. You know, I feel like everything we have here is is top notch, right, you know.

00:48:30
Speaker 1: Living living off nice facilities, living off the.

00:48:33
Speaker 5: Land is real, you know. And and then talent isn't you know, our our issue. You know, it's going to be putting it all together and seeing, you know, how well we can connect and execute at a high level. I think every team that's done it and one has done those two things.

00:48:49
Speaker 1: How do you feel coming in after bow knicks? I feel good him.

00:48:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, I watched you know him play a bunch and I think you know, as seasons go on and you definitely are able to see you know, quarterbacks playing at a high level, and you know new Baut was doing that. I think that's what made organ such an attractive place, is just how they let the quarterback go play and the types of throws you're able to make. And then also you know seeing you know, obviously when there's success at a program, you know that it takes a bunch of people. You know, as a quarterback, you understand that. And what he's been able to do is super impressive.

00:49:28
Speaker 2: The talking about the portal, the portal gets such like a different mix of reviews, right, good, bad, whatever, whatever, and whatever opinions are out there, you seem to use the portal well to your advantage. What do you feel like you've learned or what experience you've acquired just being able to go to different spots. You you grow up in Hawaii, you go to UCF, then you go to the middle of American Oklahoma. Now you're all the way up in the top corner of Oregon. What do you feel like you've learned with the portal and what's taught you.

00:49:56
Speaker 5: I've learned change is hard, but it can be really good for you. Being uncomfortable is the only way to create growth. And I've also learned that you know, doing it for the right reason.

00:50:10
Speaker 1: You know.

00:50:10
Speaker 5: I feel like I've seen it go both ways. I'm very blessed. Like I said, I trusted my heart, trusted people, and that kind of has led me to be around programs that have been successful but also can reproduce that consistently. And I just trusted, you know, I trusted my decision and kind of just was where my feet, you know, were, And you know that's why I'm so you know, focus on right now and where I'm at. And yeah, it's it's interesting though, you know, as a guy who's.

00:50:48
Speaker 1: You're kind of part of the first wave too of it all.

00:50:50
Speaker 5: I am. I joke around as a COVID baby, I was an ANIO baby, as transfer portal baby. So I've seen it all. But I think I've just adapted and accepted the fact of this what it is. But also there's beauty in both sides of everything you know, of of any you know, good or good and bad. You know, I think just because it's new, that's why it's hard to accept. Rit Like free agency in the NFL. I think NFL fans are a lot more used to change new quarterbacks, new plays, players, new coaches, you know, new coaches, business. Yeah, And that's that's what's hard too. Is college football is.

00:51:30
Speaker 1: So the school spirit, man, Yeah, cool spirit.

00:51:34
Speaker 5: Authentic, and I still believe it's it still is. I just think it's so new. I think ten to fifteen years from now will be a lot more used to it. And just how coaches leave. You know, there's happy fans, there's mad fans, But at the end of the day, someone new will be in there and don't like it, you.

00:51:55
Speaker 1: Know, yeah, no doubt, no doubt.

00:51:56
Speaker 2: With all the experience you feel like you've acquired and like wisdom you've gat from it.

00:52:00
Speaker 1: Is there anything you look back on that you would have done differently?

00:52:05
Speaker 2: And maybe like, obviously you're here so the answer would be no, right, But is there stuff you look back you're like, oh, that was a learning lesson?

00:52:11
Speaker 1: There?

00:52:11
Speaker 5: I do. I think a lot is in football and trying to get better. I think situational football is something that I wish as a young quarterback I really focused on and understood. I sometimes wish that my approach at a younger age was to listen to the words rather than the tone, right, and passion is huge in football, but how do you listen to the message and be coachable and understand that while like I said, emotions are flying, right, I think as I've gotten older, I've you know, been able to just cut that.

00:52:51
Speaker 1: Out, compartmentalize a little bit.

00:52:52
Speaker 5: Better exactly, and just you know, stay even killed.

00:52:56
Speaker 1: Not be pissed on. The coach is getting your ass.

00:52:59
Speaker 5: That's for sure, and play each play individually, you know. I think that's something that a lot of people struggle to do, is do the easy things really at an elite level, and that's what I strive to do. You know, execute at a high level, play each play individually, and then just try to win every rep because you know, if you look at it like that, it'll it'll hopefully be a good part at the end, the ending in a touchdown. But I just try to do that. It's easy to say, hard to do right.

00:53:30
Speaker 1: Always a work in progress.

00:53:32
Speaker 2: What have you enjoyed most about Coach Landing in this coaching staff since coming here.

00:53:37
Speaker 5: It's it's been refreshing. I think a young coach who gets it and is challenging us, but also not demeaning, not saying I've had that experience in my time.

00:53:50
Speaker 2: Just feel like any player, like I've had coaches that, hey, you kind of funked me up a little bit mentally in some of these comments.

00:53:57
Speaker 5: For sure. I think it's it's it has been refreshing, you know. I think he's very innovative in the way he thinks, whether it's scheme or even just in how we practice what we do, how we do what we do. I think that's very important because a lot of people are doing the same things but trying to find your edge, and I think that he's done a really good job of that. Just within my four months of being here.

00:54:21
Speaker 1: So he seems fiery.

00:54:23
Speaker 4: Bro.

00:54:23
Speaker 1: He's just got that passion.

00:54:24
Speaker 5: That he just I don't want to swear, but he's got some ship to him.

00:54:28
Speaker 1: He's got some ship.

00:54:29
Speaker 5: You gotta you gotta enjoy that. And you know, having a coach that's willing to get get in there with you, whether it's running, lifting, like he's sweating that practice, he's in it. You know, Like I feel like that is uh, you know, empowering feeling knowing that your coach is you know, being a part of what you're doing.

00:54:47
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:54:48
Speaker 5: Uh, not having levels, right, a hierarchy, I guess, right.

00:54:52
Speaker 1: Like talking down to players whatever it is, or in it with you.

00:54:55
Speaker 5: For sure.

00:54:56
Speaker 2: We had tez On Tess was saying he's the drippiest athlete in the game, and he also alluded to our quarterback things.

00:55:03
Speaker 1: He's drippy, but he's not.

00:55:04
Speaker 2: Oh gosh, do you have any you care to comment on on his comments?

00:55:10
Speaker 5: I would beg to disagree with him. He's he's a one sleeve. What he does is I think very basic. He executed Nobody executes it at a high level. That's what I'll give him, right, So, yeah, he's got the one leg sleeve. You know he'll go white, black, green, yellow, so he mixes it up. He does the arm sleeve as well on the same side. I'd love to see some altered you know, alternatives of you know, one each side, maybe a sleeve on the left, sleeve on the right.

00:55:38
Speaker 2: That's what he said too, He said, I like to go all one side and then he'll he says he'll be tattoos.

00:55:43
Speaker 5: Did he say it's because of the tattoos?

00:55:45
Speaker 1: Phil he showed.

00:55:46
Speaker 2: He showed us his Instagram after talking about Yea, I went it this way, so you can see my tattoos.

00:55:50
Speaker 1: On the right leg.

00:55:51
Speaker 5: He'll change the visors. He does gloves, he does different cleats. But to me, I feel like swag is more of an energy. It's more of a vibe. Right, Like there's some too, you know, a guy that doesn't really wear much and right can you know, rock out. But there's also something to being able to swag out at a high level. But I would just say his competition is really not that much on our team in the receiver room. I say that because it's either I mean, what can you really do leggings, maybe some arm sleeves, right, you can mix match some gloves, but I think it's execution.

00:56:26
Speaker 2: He's talking mouthpiece. He's like, hey, this is a visor pre game. This is I take the visor all for see. He's actually, you can see the color in my mouth. He's yeah, he seems very calculated with.

00:56:37
Speaker 5: His style that I feel like that's too much.

00:56:40
Speaker 1: He pours a lot into it.

00:56:41
Speaker 5: I respect it, though, I respect it. I think the what he executes at a high level, the like sleeve he doesn't mess it up, you know, I give him that. Yeah, good colors, he cuts the you know, the left leg. Yes, the tattoos, showing cleets are always at a high level. But up top, I feel like he's he could do better.

00:56:58
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:56:59
Speaker 2: Another question we asked him, you know, one of the first questions that you get asked when you get in the NFL is like, what'd you do with your first page? What was your first favorite purchase being in the n I L world? What's been a uh you know one? He gave us three of his favorite purchases, with the with the with.

00:57:16
Speaker 5: The n I L chain, his watching his.

00:57:22
Speaker 1: Change, watching other watch. What kind of car?

00:57:25
Speaker 5: What kind of car is he driving around? I think it's a B MW okay yea or no? I don't want to say an MG. I don't know, but I've seen him in one, so it might be a white MG. But gosh, I don't know. He's he's been in three different cars since I've been here.

00:57:45
Speaker 1: Here.

00:57:48
Speaker 5: Do they judge for you lease in the car? Do they judge? You know? Like, how does that work in the NFL? Like if he's leasing it, what if he's what if he's renting the car for like a month? Yeah?

00:57:57
Speaker 2: If if you're in with the dealership, like you're, you know, you're in a different ball game for sure, You're you're in a great spot.

00:58:04
Speaker 5: Do what do you know what I drive? No, nobody's told you what you drive? Chrysler white mini van, automatic, automatic doors, two touch screens.

00:58:13
Speaker 2: And cousins till Kirk drove this abysmal van around. He might still but for the five.

00:58:19
Speaker 5: Years, good insurance, super efficient, it's hybrid, so just in case I do miss out on gas, I got electricity and then uh, it can fit seven people eight if you want to use that middle side, like I mean, that's illegal.

00:58:35
Speaker 2: But but if you get in a pinch you need eight, you gotta make it happen.

00:58:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, you can make it happen you make it around the street.

00:58:42
Speaker 1: Would you would you say your minivans your favorite purchase?

00:58:45
Speaker 5: Uh?

00:58:48
Speaker 1: I would say looking ear rings in right now?

00:58:50
Speaker 5: Oh dude, you guys even beat me up about the earrings. No, no, I'm just saying Amazon fifteen ninety nine. I got a twenty pack. Yeah, you got the Change real Change reel though, but yeah, the earrings are are Amazon.

00:59:02
Speaker 1: Yeah. Sorry, budget shopping on a budget. So favorite purchase, favorite purchase.

00:59:10
Speaker 5: King bed nice. I try to purchase things that you'll use every day, So.

00:59:16
Speaker 1: Like, yeah, purchase huge.

00:59:19
Speaker 5: So you know, me and my girlfriend used to have a full bed. It was tough, you know, but once we got the king bed, it's like she's on a whole another island, you know, and you get your space. So that was huge. Helps me with sleeping, and there's something to just being able to brand. It's not a sleep number, but I don't know, it's it's a little fancy. It's a little.

00:59:41
Speaker 1: Fancy you sleep every night.

00:59:44
Speaker 5: Simpopedic neck pillow. Have you guys ever seen those?

00:59:46
Speaker 1: Man? I don't.

00:59:47
Speaker 2: I don't mesh well with them just because I don't really stay in one spot.

00:59:50
Speaker 1: I sat on my back, I go to my side.

00:59:51
Speaker 5: You can turn on them. It's it's still maybe there's a new there's maybe there's on Amazon on my Amazon. Yeah, okay, I find everything and then h a couch comfort it is you're gonna use every day. You seem to be a little and then let me give you a fun one. I didn't really buy anything crazy a dog? Could I see a dog?

01:00:15
Speaker 1: Yeah?

01:00:15
Speaker 5: What kind of dog? Winston? He's a miniature Snauzer. He's golden. I can you know, I'll pull a test.

01:00:20
Speaker 1: How much was the dog? Oh? I don't want to say four.

01:00:25
Speaker 5: I'm not even gonna because people are gonna that's a judgment.

01:00:27
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, you get you get a pure breed man, you get him from a breeder too.

01:00:31
Speaker 5: Like here's here's Winston.

01:00:34
Speaker 1: It's a cute little boy. He's Winston.

01:00:38
Speaker 5: He's able to travel. I'm gonna we're teaching him how to stay so that when I throw he can just be in the throwing sessions.

01:00:44
Speaker 1: And was he more than three brand?

01:00:48
Speaker 4: Yeah?

01:00:48
Speaker 1: He was?

01:00:50
Speaker 5: He was.

01:00:51
Speaker 2: Gosh, that's alright. People love their animals, man, I know. I mean I spent we spent a few thousand on my Change your life. Though he's changed my life for the word. She's changed my life for the worst. I'm just kidding. What happened is we had a kid. We had a kid, and he and she went down in the pecking order.

01:01:08
Speaker 1: That's fair.

01:01:08
Speaker 2: And they're and they're just stubborn animals, bro. Like you can't get a bulldog to do nothing. Sleep, yeah, sleep, and their butttholes exposed, so they'll just fucking far. They fart, but they got what's that the little you know, No, no, no, not that.

01:01:22
Speaker 5: What about cherry eye? Does that happen?

01:01:26
Speaker 2: Oh yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, where they get a little fucking she'll be like non on something. Her eye will be like popping out with bit Hey hey, cut that ship out.

01:01:32
Speaker 1: It's real.

01:01:33
Speaker 2: But it's like their anal glands or like they got some seepage that comes out of there. Antally all dogs have it, but most have a tail. But since HER's is exposed, sometimes we get on the furniture and you'll smell it.

01:01:44
Speaker 1: You'll just be in the worst mood, bro, dude.

01:01:48
Speaker 5: That's tough. Yeah, pumbling moment, they'll wiping your dog's butt.

01:01:52
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I would have to wipe her out.

01:01:54
Speaker 2: I mean every time she ship but once we got on farmer's dog and this is no no, no free no free shot. That's a farmer's dog. But once we got on farmer's dog, it's good health. I'm talking she lost weight. She's a little athlete now. I mean Gary, you guys saw her back when she was at her fattest, getting patchy like on the back that she would like lose your hair and stuff, dander and ship just from like eating the kibble.

01:02:16
Speaker 1: We get him on farmer's dog, which is like real food.

01:02:18
Speaker 5: Dude, That's that's what you talk about. Feeling your body with the right stuff.

01:02:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, gotta feel that Ferrari man first bulldog.

01:02:24
Speaker 5: It's true.

01:02:25
Speaker 1: Boys, we got anything else for Dylan.

01:02:27
Speaker 5: Speaking about bodies, I got a question, how's your body after years in the NFL?

01:02:39
Speaker 1: This is it's what a post NFL body looks like.

01:02:43
Speaker 5: I'm saying. Is it like do you wake up and you're like, do you feel better?

01:02:47
Speaker 2: I'll say this, I've had a lot of problems with my low back and this is nothing new to the audience watching right now.

01:02:52
Speaker 1: I've been vocal about it.

01:02:54
Speaker 5: You think it's a squatting what do you think the heavy squad?

01:02:56
Speaker 1: I don't squat anymore. I don't love my spine anymore.

01:02:58
Speaker 2: But I don't think it's I don't think it was like all the years of wearing tear doing that. I think at times like you will sacrifice some form to be heavy on the weight, Like I look back on that and you want solid form, because I do think backsquading is good for you.

01:03:12
Speaker 1: But where my back is at currently, it's not. I honestly, I don't think I can do that much just because it hurts.

01:03:19
Speaker 2: It bothers me, Like I'll I'll go out on the golf course and I'll be on the couch for a week just from torquing, like I've been working on it. I'm seeing a doc right now. Shoulders, knees are okay, niece. I'll get some inflammation every now. I tore my PCO, but I'll get some inflamation every now and then, But my knees are all right. I would say overall, I'm decent. I'm on the I'm on the come up right now, legit, I'm on the come up. I'm working with this doc right now. He's out of Brentwood, I like, and he's got me going. He's got me doing some really good stuff for my little back.

01:03:45
Speaker 5: Is that the same for some of your peers that have played in the NFL.

01:03:50
Speaker 1: There are some guys that are really healthy.

01:03:51
Speaker 2: There are some guys, but it's more like the bigger guys are kind of beat down a little bit more. I mean, you're a year quarterback, I feel like you're gonna be You get to wear the jersey at practice.

01:04:00
Speaker 5: You don't get touched, That's what I was saying, Like in the spring, gosh, we like actually are able to like get healthy if you did yeah yeah, yeah, and your body can get strong and I guess not beat it up.

01:04:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, there are some things, but I don't know how familiar with barstool. We had a combine recently, and if you watch the tape, I mean it was a thirty five yard dash. I ran a three wolves it three six, so I'm still was it the fastest?

01:04:25
Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, you know, Okay.

01:04:28
Speaker 5: How much did you weigh in the NFL and then.

01:04:31
Speaker 1: Low two thirties right now to seventeen that's not bad? Yeah yeah, So does it feel better? Does what losing the weight?

01:04:40
Speaker 5: Yeah?

01:04:40
Speaker 1: I mean I didn't really.

01:04:43
Speaker 2: I didn't feel like I had to fluctuate that much, like I would have to like keep weight on, but it didn't fluctuate for me that much. But this is kind of like it feels a little more natural. I'm not working out as hard. That's the beautiful thing. Whenever you get done playing, you're kind of like you wake up one morning, you're like, why am I doing all this hard ass shit? And they you just get to kind of take care of yourself a little bit. A little bit, Yeah, go meet.

01:05:03
Speaker 1: The right people, maybe put a couple things in your body.

01:05:07
Speaker 5: You shouldn't have any secret sauce, like okay on Mondays, this is what I used to do or on you know, throughout your week, Like, is there any secret sauce to like in the NFL, You're like, this is my go to like I had like for me massages and ice tubs are like I need it, you know. But if you had any secret sauces, it could even be in the film room.

01:05:28
Speaker 2: It could be what I could put you else some game in the film room, but secret sauce. Bro I feel like I was one of those guys I always did so much to why I didn't actually know what was helping me or not, whether it be supplements like food, massages, saunas, cryo culta. Like you're like with a group of guys, right, Like, I'm sure there's a couple of guys like you rock with there are kind of more on your routine with things, or there's a level you're like, oh, I kind of want to go hang with them because they're doing some things that I necessarily haven't done. You kind of like have this little posse that rolls around, but we do so much stuff to where I don't necessarily know exactly what would help me out all the time.

01:06:06
Speaker 1: Like it's like, I'm sure you do.

01:06:08
Speaker 2: You're like living on the norma text after practice, you're doing all these different things. For me, I always felt like if I could win my morning, I would be set up better for practice and the rest of the day.

01:06:18
Speaker 5: Like try and get ahead right on your checklist.

01:06:20
Speaker 2: Right like if you're hitting the cold water, if you're doing things that has you do stuff for the day because you know, if you're kind of in a mood or you're kind of like a little sluggish and you know it's either from the day before or you didn't do the right thing in the morning, you snooze a little too much. That's usually where I get behind the eight ball, because then I get in my own head about it because I just you know, you like verbally beat yourself up, like you I know, if I do X, Y and Z in the morning, I'm gonna be set up better for.

01:06:42
Speaker 1: The rest of the day.

01:06:43
Speaker 2: It'd be like set the tone. Set the tone. That would be the juice is set the tone win the morning, that's the key. And in the film room, like you know, if we get some time, we can get in there and dabble. But I'm sure you see it way differently than I do.

01:06:55
Speaker 5: Same. I'd say the quarterback of the defense, right.

01:06:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, but you got you know, quarterback brains.

01:07:00
Speaker 2: You guys got a lot of different animals going on.

01:07:03
Speaker 5: I got it.

01:07:04
Speaker 1: One more go ahead.

01:07:05
Speaker 5: Family balance, life work balance right or work life balance, yeah, I guess in the NFL. And then like being able to come home. Let's say you had a bad day or a good day, and like you got the kids at home. I know your wife's probably holding it down right, right, but even the dog, like how did you You're right? Like, how did you balance that even on good or bad days? After a game or like let's say you're tired like, how did how did that work?

01:07:35
Speaker 1: Well?

01:07:35
Speaker 2: Fortunately, we have a two year old she just turned to last week. We didn't have her, Like I fortunately that I wasn't playing when we had her. Oh, So, honestly, I think knowing that knowing what fatherhood and parenting entails now I have no clue like how the boys did it, or just being away and stuff and then coming back and your wife's your wife's holding the fourth down and just the parenting, the partnering that we kind of do with each other with rue you're second man. If she had to do all of this solo, that would be tough.

01:08:04
Speaker 5: So honestly, like shout out significant others, Yeah.

01:08:08
Speaker 1: Shot out significant others.

01:08:09
Speaker 2: But my advice would be honestly now that I'm on the other side, because it's hard for us because we're everybody selfish, but I feel like our ambitions really take over on like, hey, I'm trying to get here, I'm trying to.

01:08:20
Speaker 1: Be the best in the game.

01:08:21
Speaker 2: None of that doesn't mean that the person at home or who you go home to isn't trying to be the best of what they do. So when you come home, it's not bringing your work home and everything else with it like, Hey, I had a bad day, Can I just get a minute?

01:08:33
Speaker 1: I would personally, I would say.

01:08:36
Speaker 2: Like, you're sitting down with your wife's significant other, whatever it is, and you kind of plan out what your priorities are, like if you're somebody who needs an hour, have that expectation set before it happens. That way, you're not in a reactive state coming home, right. So that would kind of be my advice because there really is no like coach Lanning was talking about it when he was in Down, but there's not. There really isn't no such thing as like work life balance. It's like prioritize, especially in football, but it's prioritized and then when that priority comes, you got to pour into it. So if it's being a husband when you come home, if it's being a dad when you come home, and you know that's the expectation, then it's like you got to figure out a way to compartmentalize and learn that you're leaving everything else outside the door whenever you get home.

01:09:16
Speaker 1: That'd be my game for you, bro.

01:09:18
Speaker 5: And then sorry, I got another one where.

01:09:20
Speaker 1: Hey this is this is this is great.

01:09:23
Speaker 5: So let's say for young high school guys coming up right, because I always get this question, but I'm like, I feel like NFL guys could answer this even better because you had it, let's say, at the highest pressure as well as probably the biggest marketing deals. I guess you could say. But high school guys coming into college, right, how do they manage like that side of things, right, the marketing agents while playing and be able to have a clear mind of like not mixing the two together, right, Because I feel like probably in your career, you probably wore a bunch of hats, right, like setting up yourself up for success posts football, absolutely while playing the game while having family and trying to enjoy it all while stand level headed. Right, yeah, man, So how did you, I guess, manage that as well, like the work side of it, you know, with all those relationships.

01:10:20
Speaker 2: Well, now it's like high school going on to college. Like that's a different animal. I was pre in IL era, so fortunately it was all ball and everything. Not that it's not all ball, but you guys are obviously, you guys are in a world now that you have to your fast tracking to be an adult. You're you're bringing in money that you would have never seen nor maybe your family have never seen right. But what I'd say is even back when I was giving you the advice about like coming home and the work life balance, and it all comes down to prioritizing. It's like, you want to build the right team around you. You want to know who's in charge of what. That way you can free your mind of Okay, I want to focus on this. If this has stressing me out over here, how can I have the right person in place to help me manage that. It's legitimately, it's all about prioritizing, pouring into those priorities, and learning to say no if things aren't within those priorities. It's like the power of saying no means you're saying yes to what you have prioritized to help. You know, because what I've learned about myself, like you know you don't want to let I don't want I don't like letting people down, so you might say yes, or you might over commit to things, or it's like, hey, I am juggling this out here, but I don't necessarily have to help to help me out. It's like learning again man prioritizing and having the right team around you so that way you can be optimal as a football player.

01:11:34
Speaker 5: Have you seen it like affect players like rookies coming in or like I know you say pre and ile because like I'm let's say a vet in college football, right, I've seen it affect younger guys, you know, wherever I've been, I feel like on the same level in the NFL, Like, has that been a.

01:11:53
Speaker 2: Absolutely guess changing, Yeah, you know, like whether it's young guys even like even guys who have had experience in the league, like you guys that will stress about something and then my mind or somebody else's mind, it might be like, man, if he would just do X, Y and Z, but at that time when they're stressing, then vinedy you're kind of just like trying to listen versus like, hey, you should do this. But legitimately man and yeah, for any high schooler's coming into college, I know it's a different ballgame. But I was talking to I got to talk to Nebraska last week, and I was I was kind of telling them, like we've all seen the show thirty for thirty Broke, where seventy to eighty percent of the NFL guys can be bankerable within like three to five years. We're talking about grown, mature men with families that should have their head on straight right, and you know, you guys think you guys are just going to be an exception because of nil like money and the same things can happen. It's like if you don't take advantage of the opportunity you have sitting here to a mass at like it's a privilege getting to have these deals and everything else.

01:12:51
Speaker 1: But you know, whether.

01:12:53
Speaker 2: You're in a quarterback or whether you get to be in a spot to have certain people around you, it's like letting those resources work for you and not against you and feeling like I feel like a lot of times guys might feel like they have their own answers or whoever at home might be telling him you should do X, Y and Z. I'm not saying those people at home are wrong, but maybe there are times where you can doubt the advice you're hearing and pour into maybe the advice you're getting from your school, because ultimately the school has to adapt the same way that players are having to adapt. They need to pour into resources that help you, that help set you guys up for life after football, because there is an nile world and you want to be if you're at Oregon. You want to be a spot to where families come in and you have every resource set up to be like, hey, your kid's coming here, he's going to make probably a lot of money that the kids seen that the family scene, and we have things in place that makes it more attractive to come.

01:13:42
Speaker 1: So they got to be correct as well.

01:13:43
Speaker 5: So there's as another level to it rather than just money, right right, And like even like what you're saying about other people other voices, like that's real too, like having good family members in your corner. Yeah, and I guess feeding you the right stuff because what you hear ends up be coming what you think and what you end up doing down the road. Like I feel like that's real too, of having good people in your life.

01:14:10
Speaker 4: Right on.

01:14:12
Speaker 5: In the NFL, right, like a lot of people are probably telling you how to do what you should be doing.

01:14:17
Speaker 2: Everyone's got an idea for you, or they got an investment, they got something, And I'm telling you if you don't have the right group around you or the right team or the right people in place, it's like, hey, I really appreciate this.

01:14:27
Speaker 1: This seems awesome.

01:14:28
Speaker 2: If you don't mind sharing this information, here's my guys email and if they follow up and do all the right due diligence, then it's handled through the business advisor, right, and it's like, Hey, I think this could be a good gig for you, this could be an opportunity for you. Hey, maybe it's not, but if you love it, then maybe we put a little bit here and there. But you have people giving you advice, and then ultimately comes down to those people who are trying to pitch you stuff. If they respect you, then they're going to respect your process about it all.

01:14:53
Speaker 1: So again it's like.

01:14:55
Speaker 5: Or if they really want to work with you exactly, they'll go through They'll go through the right.

01:14:59
Speaker 1: Protocol to to do that, especially if you're given them the time of day. I appreciate those questions.

01:15:04
Speaker 5: Man, it was well, I feel like, you know, you asked me a bunch of questions to know me, right, But I feel like there's so much to learn from you, and you know, I don't get this opportunity of bunch and I know we're doing it you know here, but no, I just appreciate that, you know, I think there's always something you can learn. And that's what my whole two things are, is like you're never too old or too young to lead, and you're never too young or too old to learn, so whatever, it.

01:15:33
Speaker 1: Is, absolutely and it's one of those things too.

01:15:35
Speaker 2: It's like I hate seeing young young athletes like not take advantage of the resources that are all around them. I mean, we have such a head start just being at a university like I got to go to Nebraska. You're in Oregon right now, but be at the universities we've been at that have the resources to be successful because one day it all ends. No matter what, I hope you get play ten fifteen years, but one day.

01:15:56
Speaker 5: We How was that day for you?

01:15:59
Speaker 1: It wasn't that difficult.

01:16:00
Speaker 2: I feel like I had about as smooth of a transition as I.

01:16:03
Speaker 1: Could have envisioned in my head, Like did I want it to end?

01:16:06
Speaker 2: Did I want to continue to be able to play at a high level or be seen as like, Okay, we'll give them an opportunity to be a starter Like I was at that point in my career. I was more of a backup special teams guy. And we started fortunately started busting with the boys, so that ended up beginning to take off to where it made it made like hey, whenever the day, the moment does come like it's all good because this is doing well, thank God, because the in light it was like year seven where I was like a backup. I didn't get to play a whole lot on the Titans, and I was like, fuck, I'm gonna have to be on a ninety man roster again and make a fifty three versus being a guy known, hey, this will be a steady piece on a roster.

01:16:40
Speaker 1: I'm going to have to reinvent myself and make the team again. And I didn't. Necessarily. I was like overdoing that.

01:16:48
Speaker 2: And so fortunately building busting has helped, you know, build it into a good outlet, and it's helped me allow me to transition away from the game because a lot of guys they don't They just don't get a call again and they're training for and then it doesn't happen, and then if they if those I feel like.

01:17:03
Speaker 5: We all know that one guy who's still training and we know that's no eligibility or you know what I mean, that's really not being but I feel like everyone knows that guy that you're like gosh, you know what I mean.

01:17:15
Speaker 2: Like yeah, absolutely, or they're still taking opportunities to go play and look, I know there's stories that motivate everybody to allow them to make those choices, like, hey, I'm going to go down to this league because you never know, you want tape, you want to get an opportunity. But when they do have to come to that harsh reality, a lot of guys didn't you know, didn't fortunately like take advantage of the time that they had while.

01:17:38
Speaker 1: They're in the league.

01:17:38
Speaker 2: It's like when you're in the NFL, Like while you're an Oregon duck. I say it constantly, your jokes are funnier, you're better looking, and you can shake more hands. And if you don't do those more, yeah, yeah, and you're way more interesting. And if you don't take advantage of those things now to set yourself up for the curiosities you have outside of the game, the moment the game ends, it looks a little different. You look a little bit more desperate, and then you you beat yourself up. And then as men or athletes, like a lot of people, do you stay quiet about it. You don't talk about it. You're not vulnerable enough to share that a you might be struggling. So it's like always one of those things like why I've appreciated these questions. It's you sit there and you hate to see athletes like, you know, piss it away because they they were so obsessed with.

01:18:19
Speaker 5: Playing or not be president in the moment and create relationships that are real, you know, like if you're going to be in the building with this coach, you know, like enjoy that time together and get to know them, because that relationship might go even further to you having a job down the road or you know, like nobody I feel like in the moment thinks about that, right we're thinking right now, And I think that's what's hard for players too, right Like as players, everyone's telling us focus on ball. You know, that's like that's all you should be worried about, right, But then when you're done with ball, they're like, what were you doing while you're playing ball?

01:18:51
Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah.

01:18:53
Speaker 5: To me, it's like such a contradicting like thot, like how do we you know, help one another out and like talk through it of like being able to have conversation and figure out like how do you focus on ball and still keep level headed while being able to plan and set yourself up? You know?

01:19:11
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, because like you're saying it's not like this poor mement victimized mentality, like hey, you feel sorry for athletes for doing this. It's just like no, it's just if you the individual had any idea the opportunity. You had to know that we have this head start and you're not taking advantage of it, like it's it ultimately becomes on you. But it's like, bro, you have to pour into whether it's relationships. You brought that up and I was thinking, we have a common connection. James Stopson was my strength and conditioning coach in Nebraska. Comes up, they tell you that I'm sure he preached you guys the coffee bean story. Dude, be the coffee bean, not the horrib boiled egg or the charrot that gets soft in the boiling water. He said, the coffee bean that sets the tone and makes the environment its own. He's the best, though, bro. We I mean, I was texting with him yesterday and my hey, Dylan Gabriel, like you mind telling me some some stuff about him?

01:20:07
Speaker 1: We hop on the phone.

01:20:07
Speaker 2: He had great things to say about you, and uh, but he's a relationship that I've kept since at Nebraska. He was at Vaanderbilt and I was at Tennessee. I'm training there. I hated when he went to Oklahoma just because that was the trained me in the offseason.

01:20:22
Speaker 5: Is that the rivalry too? Would you say back in Oklahoma you weren't that far back?

01:20:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, I wasn't.

01:20:28
Speaker 2: I wasn't back in like the nineties when it was like the Oklahoma Nebraska game and everyone salivated over it. It kind of switched around because I played in both the Big twelve and the Big Ten, so it kind of maneuvered.

01:20:38
Speaker 5: Right now, if Nebraska I played there, that's that place is crazy.

01:20:43
Speaker 1: Thank you. Man. Did Nebraska try getting you out.

01:20:46
Speaker 5: Of the portal when Coach Frost was there?

01:20:49
Speaker 1: Yes? Really?

01:20:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, because when we were talking with Coach Rule, he has brought your name up. So I'm thinking in my head like, oh, I wonder if they were in the running it all for for you?

01:20:58
Speaker 5: No I should I didn't hear them, but no. It's it's crazy though, But like I remember the first third down there, dude loudest I mean, and I've played in some environments, which yeah, it is probably up there with the Ou Texas game, but like that first third down, like I remember seeing like looking at my receiver in the eyes and he's like this, like you know, like oh my.

01:21:24
Speaker 2: Well that sayings like you're yelling and you can't even hear yourself.

01:21:27
Speaker 5: Dudde and like it's just I think the craziest stadiums are when you can't see out of it. That to me is like you're in it, you know, like I don't know, I don't want to say like the old Colisseum days or like you know, Badle or whatever, but like when you can't see out, it's like, bro, you're in this bitch, you know, like like you better come ready to play.

01:21:47
Speaker 1: Yeah.

01:21:48
Speaker 5: Man, So I remember that that first drive d in of going seven like going up seven zero and we had the first drive. We end up going three and out. But uh dude, it.

01:21:57
Speaker 1: Was did you beat us? You end up beating there?

01:22:00
Speaker 5: Yeah?

01:22:04
Speaker 1: I know, I just didn't know. I wait, which which when you were with U c.

01:22:10
Speaker 5: F Oklahoma Oklahoma last year the year before, Oh ship, it's it's a team of all time, right.

01:22:22
Speaker 1: That was two years ago? Oh yeah, yeah, we were the It's on yes.

01:22:29
Speaker 5: Oh no, that was the year before. That was at Ou. That was at you the year.

01:22:34
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, it was what it was like it hand I was gonna say in the first quarter is like maybe fourteen all and then you guys just went unanswered.

01:22:45
Speaker 5: They were up seven zero, and then try we had you guys in the sights like, oh that's good, but yeah, that's right.

01:22:57
Speaker 1: Okay.

01:22:58
Speaker 5: So I want to bring this up because I hope somebody adopts this idea. I think you know, we're talking about college football, right yeah. I think you get forty of the biggest logos. They don't have to be good right now, but the biggest logos, the most donors and the biggest atmospheres. So you can put that all together whatever whatever. I don't want to say any names because you know, but you can imagine that, right. The bottom five every year goes down to play with the let's say the second division. The top five of that goes back up. So it's ever changing, right, like you gotta you want to be up there. You got to stay up there, right, you play, let's say with the forty teams, you get ten games, it all alternates, that goes to a seed in like a march madness. I don't want to do the math. I don't want to butcher it, but that's probably five games, fifteen games, you get.

01:23:52
Speaker 2: You'd have to go to like break it down thirty two teams in a bracket.

01:23:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, let's say, okay, because the bottom five and.

01:23:58
Speaker 1: Two, Yeah, the bottom eight could potentially.

01:24:00
Speaker 5: So you could do a March Madness and have the biggest atmospheres. You're playing coast to coast and it doesn't affect other sports, so you can still have your you know, but that football league is like the big like the Big forty. Let's say, and now you can play I wouldn't that be cool? Wouldn't that be cool?

01:24:19
Speaker 1: Like bottom eight kind of like an n I T tournament and.

01:24:23
Speaker 5: You still you can still win, right, because there's some merit to like what if you know, uh, a lower level school gets in that top five and they killed it that year, then they can come up for the year. You know, they earned it, right And uh, I don't know. I thought it'd be dope, you know. I thought, like, imagine if you could play coast to coast and play all the great atmospheres like big noon kickoffs every week? Dude, you know, like what if we could have five big noon kickoffs?

01:24:49
Speaker 1: Like you're thinking big.

01:24:51
Speaker 5: I'm just saying, like everyone, players want it, coaches want it. Fans want it. Everyone wants the big atmosphere, so why not recreate it?

01:24:59
Speaker 2: Whatever the NC double A kind of folds at some point to create some of these super conferences. I'm sure the TV money and everything else will try to come up.

01:25:07
Speaker 1: With something as entertaining.

01:25:09
Speaker 5: For sure, for that dollar amount, it'll have to be a you think it'll go into rep sharing and all that kind of thing.

01:25:16
Speaker 1: I think so, I think so, honestly, why not? Right now?

01:25:20
Speaker 2: You guys are in such a situation where it could be free agency every day.

01:25:23
Speaker 5: I know.

01:25:24
Speaker 1: So you guys are in an advantage places which is great.

01:25:27
Speaker 2: But great as far as like you know, how it's going to continue to evolve, Like, yeah, they're gonna want to come for something.

01:25:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, the a union that will be something. You guys have a.

01:25:38
Speaker 5: Union yet we don't. Not yet we don't.

01:25:40
Speaker 1: I bet that's that'll be.

01:25:42
Speaker 5: Maybe bring it together, you know, yeah, maybe he's got it.

01:25:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, I appreciate this conversation.

01:25:49
Speaker 5: Of course, thank you.

01:25:50
Speaker 1: You came with collections to appreciate.

01:25:52
Speaker 5: Gosh, I had to what's your Instagram? It's it's just my name.

01:25:57
Speaker 2: Okay, Dylan Gabriel, Go follow the boy, Follow the boy, you got anything else going on?

01:26:02
