Speaker 1: What's up bachor happy our listeners. I'm backa koufriend and I'm Michelle Young, and we're excited to be back with you this week because today we're catching up with one of my girlfriends, one of the most lovely women I have ever met thanks to the show, and that is Kendall Long. We have so many questions for her. I've never met her in person before, but I've only heard great things. And we have her move to Germany that we'll be talking about and her new fiance. She's an engaged from a woman. Oh, I'm so happy for her and her new fiance, Mitch. But before we bring her on, Michelle, it's a big week because the holidays are here. Do you have any fun plans for them? Are you going to be going back to Minnesota for them? Yes, I will be back in Minnesota for the holidays. I'm so excited, just because last year at this time it was so crazy. I feel like things are finally like slowing down a little bit during the holidays, so just spending time with family. I have two nephews now, so one of them it will be his first Christmas, so that's going to be amazing. And just I don't know the usual, the food, the cookies. I'm looking forward to it. What about you? What are you and Thomas doing now now that you're engaged? This is your first like holiday together engaged? Yes, yeah, we had well, yes, we spent the holidays last year together. Obviously we weren't engaged at that point, so we're taking it pretty easy. Last year we went back to Minnesota. So this year we're going to stay here and celebrate with his family, and then I'm planning on to Minnesota and we'll celebrate with my family in January. So it's gonna be pushed back a little bit, but I'm so excited. Thomas's mom is the most incredible woman, and I truly don't know how she does it, but she goes all out for the holidays. We were just there last night watching her setup the house and she has seven Christmas trees, seven seven all around the house. She put one so like Thomas and I will spend I mean, she only lives a half hour from us, but she put so we'll spend a couple of nights there around Christmas. But she has a tree in every room. She has a tree in our bedroom, in the guesthouse, like she goes all up because so this is something that I have yet to experienced. This will be my first time experiencing the ideology Jamboree. Apparently it's this massive holiday party that they've had for years, but because of COVID and then last year their house actually flooded and was under construction so they couldn't host it. So this is the first year that I will be able to witness it for the first time. This is one of the things I give you not I think on Thomas. In my our first date that we had, he told me about this party, so it has been a long time coming. I'm so excited. I just I can't wait, just to eat, drink, be merry. I already have the dogs ugly Christmas sweaters too to wear so they can match us. But yeah, it's just gonna be fun. I mean, his family is so so, so incredible. I already feel like I'm part of their family, so I'm thrilled to be spending it with them. Yeah, and then no plans for New Year's Eve. I'm like, whatever happens happens. I don't want to plan anything big this year because I feel like, do you ever feel like this where if you plan too much or like hype up something too much, it never lives up to the expectation. Always. I just had this conversation with one of my friends about New Year's Eve, and it's just from as far back as I can remember, it's always been like the stress of what are we gonna do? Like you feel like you have to do something special. It's almost like if you don't do something big and that's how you start your year, then that's how your year is gonna go. I don't know if like that, if that's where the pressure comes from, but it's so so much, and so it's like, no, I'm going to plan to not plan to do anything. Im coming from the girl me. I had a panic attack on New Year's Eve last year. I had such a bad anxiety attack that I literally cried in Thomas's arms for like two hours as the ball was dropping, because I was like convinced something bad was going to happen. I was like, something bad and terrible's gonna happen in twenty twenty two and so far it's been like one of the best years I've ever experienced. Knock on one. We still have a few days left. But I'm like this year, like, no plans as long as I'm with Thomas and our dogs or friends or family, like, it's just gonna be low key. So I'm looking for forward to not worried about that, and then hopefully it just exceeds expectations exactly. All of my New Year's is like, well last year. Last year was all right, yeah, I guess you are right, so I thought, but you were going through so much at this time last year it was finale. I was so exhausted. And then I remember I got COVID right after I like writing in the New Year, like the two days after I had COVID, I swear me too. Um yeah so yeah, and then the like I also remember we'll back in Like the year after college, I got cheated on on New Year's by my boyfriend at that time, Like New Year's is like everyone's like New Year's. I'm like, yeah, board up the house, talking nobody. I will treat this night like any other night. I will eat a big thing of pasta and be in bed at nine pm. That's a new hopect Like all I gotta remember is to write twenty twenty three as my instead. Yeah, like that's my biggest worry. But I think this year we Rachel and I might go to Mexico and just like Carbo and just my unpluck. Yeah, because it's funny year for both of us. Yes, okay, as we should go relax, get off the grid for a little bit. Um, and when I talk to you next, I can't wait to year about this trip. No, there's no expectations, No what trip. Watch, it's gonna it's gonna blow everything under the water. You're gonna make this is the best trip I've ever had. Um. That'll be fun though. That sounds like a perfect way to bring in another year. Um. And speaking of bringing in something, I think it's time to welcome our guest Kendall to Happy Hour. Let's do it. We got my girl Kendall all the way from Germany, and before before we even ask how you're doing it, show us that rock please. Good for anyone listening, I'm looking at a massive of stunning oval with two side diamonds. She's beautiful. Wow. Okay, so now I'm gonna ask, how the hell are you? I'm doing very good, Um, a little chaotic. There's a lot going on currently. This is our first week in Germany. But overall it's it's been an adventure. Yeah, it's been great. Okay, we have so much to catch up on. I I know you and Michelle have never met, so welcome Michelle and Kendall meeting for the first time. I know, I feel like being in this family, like you kind of know everybody, so it feels like we've met before, but we actually have not. I know, right. I think I saw you at an event one time and I was like, oh, I have to say hi, but you know how those are. It was like, all, there's so many things going on, Michelle. For a little refresher for you. Kendall and I were on our season of The Bachelor back in the day. We also did Paradise together last year. Kenda, you're the reason why I said yes. You're one of the reasons like why I said yes to Actually, it's a very fun thing to go on again. So Kendall and I were out to dinner. We were at sushi with one of our friends, just drinking wine. I think we had some sake and we were like, Okay, are we going to do this? Like and it was literally like the day before we're supposed to fly down, like do we say yes, like, do we sign the contracts? Do we do this? I was like, I'm in in Fiorian and so we did it together. Yeah we hear sake to it. So yes, yes, it was good. Um. Yeah what wild times. It feels like lifetimes ago. Um. Okay, so much has changed in your world within the past couple weeks. You recently got engaged. So so happy for you, Midge. Thank you is such a gem. You are both so cute together. Um, but catch us up just on your life. You're not living in Germany. How is that transition? It's a it's really crazy. It's a crazy transition. Um. Germany does things a lot differently. Um. So it's just adjusting to that. Um, learning the language. I know how to say I don't know how to speak much German, so that sud to me. And UM, yeah it's been it's definitely been an adjustment, but it's been really cool. I decided to come here during winter, which is a great idea because it's like snowing and freezing and I've never lived in the snow before. Um, but it's just so beautiful here during the holidays and and yeah, it's just been a whirlwind. And I'm excited to fully get to know more about the German cultural and really immerse myself into it. And I'm with Nich so it's been a fun little intro to being engaged. Like this is the first time we've been living together. It's a completely different country. Yeah, yeah, what would you sort of love right there? But honestly, home is where the heart is? Is Is that is that how it goes? What would you say is like the biggest difference. You said that there's so many things that are different in Germany that you've learned or that you've noticed. So far. Everything is paper bay based, so we've been doing a lot of paperwork. We have to change our phones, and in order to get a place here, you have to order to get a license here, you have to have your landlords sign off and say that you officially live here. So everything's by the book, very structured, and so that's been interesting to get used to because I'm very much like all over the place, and I'm not used to having to reset my life because I've just broke up in La my entire life. And they take they take holidays very seriously, like Christmas is so festive here, and the weather is very different. So just dressing that, preparing for that, and I'm going to put out a park on thick boots. Well, I didn't know that warm stocks or a thing like, I've never had to really dress incredibly warm. I've been to New York during snowstorms, but living here is a lot different than visiting or like a vacation, So you got to get those cozy cabin socks going. I've seen people literally with jackets that look like uh, sleeping bags. Their whole body just just covered and like they have these thick socks and it. You know, I'm just I'm like taking notes, like these are things I must ask sounds Yeah, the two exactly. They had these codes nowadays that they actually like they're not electric, they're safe, but they heat up like like a heating pad. But the park but it's probably got one of those actually. So but it's so we're shipping. So I shipped all of my clothes, um, well a lot of my clothes. I sold basically everything, um, And so I'm shipping things here and so I will get that probably in a month or two because it takes a while to ship thing here. So I'm kind of living out of a couple of suitcases until then. But I did see I got that coat, and my mom was the one that suggests to get that to me if you're going to need it. Yeah, that I'm here, I'm like, yes, this is perfect. Mama knows best. So it was Mitche's job that brought you both there, correct, Yeah, okay, okay, and you'll be there for two about two years, that's the plan right now. Do you think there's a chance you'll stay longer or do you already have plans like you'll do the two years and then come back to California. It's it's it's such a crazy adjustment to move to a different country. But I think after we do it, we already talk, we're already talking about different places we might live after this. But our goal is to go back to where our family is in California. Our family's families live so close together, and so that's the ultimate goal. This is more so like an adventure before we settle down, have kids and do all that. So, yeah, knock it off, check it off the bucket list. Oh yeah, what does I do that brought you to Germany? Um? So he's an aerospace engineer and so he is working for Yeah, so he's working here in all the things, I'm not exactly about to know it you picked one. Oh yeah, he's incredibly intelligent. The one thing that I fell in love with him it's like his mind, Like his mind is just a he's a beautiful brain. So well, and you also have a beautiful brain. It's so creative and unique that I feel like you needed somebody that was going to be able to stimulate you. You know, it's like you. I feel like you both are very even for each other. I was telling I think maybe just mentioned this to Michelle before you popped on Weirdly enough, So we met Mitch, Well, I met Mitch at Thomas's thirtieth birthday. That's where you brought him. Well, no, we went him before. I guess that on the tour, but oh yeah, but not really getting to know yeah yeah ye. And such a small world. Mitch is cousins with one of Thomas's good friends from high school, and so he kind of like already I felt like he was like already part of the group and like welcomed. And he's not only smart, he's obviously very handsome, but just such a nice, fun guy, like very down to earth. So okay, I want to talk a little bit about Germany and then I want to get into obviously the engagement. But you mentioned that Germany takes the holidays very seriously, and I have seen the holiday markets that you have attended in these past two days. Yea more for any of our listeners who maybe didn't see your stories on Instagram. Talk more about these holiday markets, but also please elaborate on I think you posted it yesterday. I like this scary Christmas man, like like he had like sticks and he was like spanking someone with yea, so those are birch branches. So Acrompus is kind of like a Christmas demon. He works with Saint Nicholas and he'll capture bad naughty children and take them back to his layer. Will he'll torture them, like hitting them with like birch branches or eat them. It's like very much a nightmare. I'm really curious about because I'm a like teacher everything, and so in education you can't I mean, you don't really celebrate you felebrate winter, but you can't really celebrate Christmas and just different things. You kind of keep those out of it. But in family, I just know that there's so many families that use like elf on the shelf and um and what else is it? And just like coal and like, oh, you're not going to get any gifts, like as a threat for a spres But like in Germany, do they threaten like this person's going to come and take your vegetables if you don't need your vegetables everywhere in Germany. I think it's certain districts, in districts in Germany because um so, the guy who owns the airbnb that we're staying in currently, he didn't even know about the crampas test and he was raised in stuke Guards, So I think it might be just to certain areas. But the kids seem to love it. When we were at the festival, they were all like all the kids that were in the front was getting picked on and they were just laughing and it was scary this crumpus. Yeah, but like I saw this video and I was like I would be traumatized as a child to see this. Oh, their masks are so cool, like they so they handmake or homemake their masks and it looks like they carved them out of wood and they get these crazy wigs. It's just it's so elaborate, and I thought they were really beautifully done. Um terrifying. Yeah, but I think each area might have had their own, um I guess type of crampus that they were representing, because they'd have these signs that would say like a town or a location, and they a group of them together and it was in the middle of the Christmas festival. So there's really pretty gingerbread looking houses with gluvine and all this like pretzels and everything, and then it's crazy, What a fun time to move to a new country. I feel like that's like the best way to immerse yourself in the culture is just like being here around the people, around the food, around their festivities, in the traditions. Speaking of food, because you mentioned the pretzels, talk talk a little bit more about the food. Do you like the German food better than the American food? Like what's in your favorite thing? I'm such a foodie, so I need to know everything well. At first, I was worried that I wouldn't really like the German food, because you don't really I never really personally heard about Germany's food culture. I knew there was a lot of potatoes and pretzels and stuff. But their food is really good. They have a big Italian community here, so Italian food's great. They have there's a sushi place around the corner from where we are. Um, yeah, so they're the big Asian influence here. So we we've tried, Like the first week we are here, we had to go out to eat all the time, just because you know, we didn't have anyhere else to go. And yeah, it didn't disappoint. It was very interesting, like certain things where like I've never tried it before, but yeah, I love I feel like that's my favorite part of traveling. Yeah, making around food. But now that y'all are in Germany, do you have like what are your plans for the holidays? Do you plan to combine You're like holiday traditions make new ones. I'm definitely already planning to get a Christmas tree and to decorate things. Um it's it's sad. It's hard because I'm so close with my family. Mitch is so close with his family, so being away from family during the holidays, it's going to be incredibly difficult. Um. Niche's birthday is actually the nineteenth, so we're going to be celebrating his birthday first, and then Christmas is shortly after. Um, but I'm like excited. I'm excited to have my first Christmas with like with Mitch, and you know, we're newly engaged and it's gonna be really cute and get like a little tree. Um. But because last year we our first date was the day after Christmas. Really yeah, oh my gosh, circle, I'll look at that. Does any of your family have plans yet to come out there and visit you two? Yeah, so I have a girlfriend who already booked her ticket for um, I think March, and then my parents were thinking of coming probably around April May, like around springtime. There's a spring festival that looks really fun. So my brother's also going to be coming around that time because he's visiting visiting friends in London, so they have no options but to come visit right where they have. Yeah, we're getting a place at the couple rooms, so we're hoping that that'll like entire people to come. YEA. How close are you this is totally a topic. How close are you to the Rhine River? Um? Is that the river that's a munich? I believe I think so, so I'm pretty sure. Actually, I might be there at the beginning of June, so if you really are in town, I'll we'll talk obviously after this, but I'm like, um, yeah, I'm doing a river cruise with my mom and sister and I need to see you if I'm there. If it's a Munich. I think it's a Munich. That's only about two hours away, but you can cut it with the autobod, so it's about okay, Okay, Well, we'll talk after this. I definitely want to see you Uma, for sure. I just catch up and eat all the German pretzels. Oh yeah, definitely eat a German pretzel. I haven't had one yet. Really, there aren't so many cool things to try. I'm like, I tried a pretzel before, obviously I haven't had a German one, so yeah. Or beer. I haven't had beer here either, so let's yeah, you got time, you got time together. Yes, you're gonna dip the pressl the beer. And now I don't know were you the one? Okay? I think I learned this about you when we were traveling meat. I want to say to Paris on our season, because that was the first international area we went to. Were you the one who said, um, and correct me if I'm wrong, you would only eat meat when you would travel? Correct, Yeah, yeah, okay, yes, And so now that you're traveling for two years, are you able to eat all the meat there? I've actually already started me. Okay, okay, So whatever I post about eating meat because I thought you were vegetarian, I don't know. I mean, I feel like there's so many interesting things to try and un't it was a cool part of my life to be able to. I was vegan, then vegetarian, then Presbyterian, um, and I just really really paying attention to where I get my meat from. And in Germany they are just so much better with food in general. Like you can see that things are a lot fresher, there's a lot more regulations on what they can serve, what they can sell, so you're getting really good quality stuff, and um, you can feel it. Like people who have gluten intolerance. Um, of course everyone like people see the actor or whatnot. But people who have gluten intolerances in America usually won't have them in Germany. I've seen that actually all over recently, about like them eating like pasta anything like that can eat straight up bread when they can't tolerant in the US. Yeah, and in years. I feel like just from like the couple countries that I've been to, everything like you said, is homemade, fresh, like minimal ingredients, which I appreciate. It's like just the basics. You don't need all these add ons, additives, whatever you call it. So I guess that makes sense. Yeah, I know it looked at me talking like I'm a doctor, like I know, or like a nutritionist. I have no idea. Don't listen to me. I'll go back and see how I feel after a couple of years. You know, I cannot wait to see you, visit you out there. That's gonna be so fun. Okay, Becca, have you you've met Mitch before? Beca, Yes, yes, Okay, I literally I just know him from social media on your page. That's it. Oh yeah, that is totally it. How did you? How did you guys meet? So we met through a mutual friend, one of his volleyball buddies, and we met at a It was kind of like a pregame before going out together. And um, yeah, I think the first thing that I really enjoyed about him was that he was very into science, like myself. So that's kind of how he first really connected. Um. But but yeah, from there we just kind of clicked. I mean pretty much knew quick quickly that we were going to Well that was my That was my next question. And like, you were you immediately drawn and it interested in him or did it take a little bit? Uh? I was immediately So when I first met him, I thought he actually came with a girl, and so I was more so telling myself. I was like, oh, I think he's very cute. It's like, oh my gosh, she's like really into science. He's like, but don't look at him, you can't like no, And then I found out later on that night that he was not spoken for and so you know, and it was and we met the day before his birthday, so at midnight we had our first kiss on his birthday. So, yeah, you say there was a lot of chemistry between you two. That was very much a lot of jos scientists who made the first move. Then for that kiss, was it your Mitch is the kind of guy that makes the first move, so he was very much the uh yeah, the more dominant one and up nut regard to take in charge. Yes, I loved it. Did okay, when you guys met, did he know that you had been like on a TV show? Did he know that you'd been on like Paradise? He knew elements of it just because his friend that introduced us, he was supposed to be on Claire season of the Bachelorette and so he was in that kind of bachelor world. So because of that, he knew that we had met through that um and so yeah, he kind of had. He knew a little bit of it. He has still never seen it, and I encourage him not yet, but yeah, yeah, I mean he might one day, but it's just weird to watch yourself like two other people do that. I will say that. I would say, if he's going to watch anything, he should do The Bachelor. Yeah. Yeah, so fun. I remember I remember the first I want to say it was either the first sight or the first like a big official row ceremony after night one. I well, you were one of the very first people AVERAGE talk to. We hit it off right away, we sat down. You had this beautiful necklace. I remember that that your mom had made you, and we started talking about her jewelry. But then one of these rose heremonies you brought you started bringing out the taxidermy, and I remember being like, I love this girl. She's so unique, Like you just were so fun, just like such a breath of fresh air. You kind of reminded me of some of my friends back in Minnesota. Um, and so we just hit it off. And I don't even know where I'm going with this other than like how much I love you. But I was gonna say he should watch if he's gonna watch any season, if you watched The Bachelor, because I feel like you just see more of you too. You know, you were on for basically the entire season. Um. Yeah, and yeah, I just gosh, those were times. Yeah, that was they I mean it was definitely very much taxidermy. Focus was just hilarious, and they taxidermy for the first time on that on that season's just fun. So yeah, were you walking around the old ship on your shoulder? Oh my little dog? Yeah? And then yeah, I like traveled everywhere with me. Wait do you still have him do? Yeah? Well, Ping and Pongs have two little ducks. Um I left them back, um back home, because bringing animals across you know, lines of countries, it is very difficult. So um, I got away with it surprisingly when I was on the show. But and you took him every where. We were in Paris, we went to Italy. Oh wow, yeah, has has Mitch met ping and he has? Yeah, Mitch has met all my taxes for me and they all have names as as you know, scary as that sounds. Um, has he made any taxidermy with you? He has not, So we've discussed the taxi or me. We're very both very interested in having a study in our future home. And we're like got studyed with like bookshelves, a bunch of books we've collected, and like taxit me all around, like it will reside in the cool area. I love school of it, like you're describing how my house was when my dad was still around, like because he would hunt and fish and so we had like the fish and the ducks and the deer antlers and the geese and all the things. And I love it. It's a good vibe you that. Oh you were thriving when we went to Taha, because I remember the house that we stayed at had some taxidermy and you were so expited to be there. Mean taxider me there, Oh my gosh. And they have like some kind of lions on the or something. And I think it was in the room that you sucked in, right, Yeah, that's why we got that room. Yeah, bitter and like okay, like reserve the room for you because there was like a dead tigers. Yeah. Yeah, it was like that's insane. Were people having nightmares in that in that lodge or where we were like because of all the tax For me? Oh, I don't know. I loved it. I thought it was great, but I hope I was saying they were scared to sleep there, so it was Oh no, it was perfect. It was like such a little secluded, big cabin in the mountains as lovely. Um, okay, can we get into the whole proposal engagement? Did you have any idea that it was coming? Um? I mean I think when you're in a relationship for a while and you kind of feel like you're the one you know that you want that you know with each other. So I knew that we were eventually going to get engaged. I didn't know when, but um, but yeah, So it happened to be like right before we left for Germany. And it was great because our families were there and we can celebrate it together with them. And I love that he shows that moment, Like before we were going to be leaving for two years, so it was nice that it was right before. Yeah, you have two years. Okay, you just had this big move. You're gonna be the for two years, but you're still getting settled. Is wedding planning taking like a back seat for a little bit? Do you want a long engagement? Do you want to is it going to be a super small wedding? Like what are your thoughts with how fast this is going to go? Well? I want to have it back home, just with family, So either we can plan something or we'll come back. It seems kind of difficult to do that while we're abroad. Um, so we're thinking probably when we around the time we get back, maybe in a couple of years. Um. Also because his grandparents, like I really want them to be able to join as well like our grandparents. So um, so yeah, we're thinking maybe like a couple of year engagement. I'm sorry, yeah, until we Yeah, okay, And what does Kylie for anyone listening. Kylie is Kendall's twin sister, not to be confused with Kendall and Kylie from the Kardashians. She approve of Mitch. He definitely approves his Mitch. Okay, good. It was funny though in the beginning, like we're with our first date. Um. At first she was like, who's this guy that's taking you away from Christmas like the day after Christmas? Um, But then she has grown to like love him, and uh, Mitch gets in to like all the drama on conversations, and he loves like like the getting advice and like listening and interacting with everyone, which is another reason why like this guy's great. Um. So he loves just kind of getting to the conversations with my friends and family. Yeah. Yeah, he's He's great at asking questions. He's very easy. If I want to meet him, everyone things, Yeah, come to Germany with us. I'll come. I'll be there too. So honestly, honestly, please do, please do. I would love to show you around. Um yeah, he's I mean, obviously, I'm very biased. He's like the best man in the world. I don't know if you knew that, but for anyone listening, Okay, I just have to offshoot this story really quick. So Mitch and Kendall came to Thomas's thirtieth birthday and most of the people that were there like lived in San Diego. They were Thomas's longtime friends from high school or college. And I'm so happy you and came. It was such a blast. But it was supposed to be a pool party. The pool wasn't finished at Thomas's parents also, I was like, shit, but like it's in the middle of the summer and it's gonna be so hot. We want something to do. So I ended up buying two big slipping slides for the front yard, and like so no one really wanted to do them besides Thomas, Kendall and Mitch. And so these three were just zipping down this slip and slide like they have like just breaks in their hands. They're like having us feed them pizzas they're going down on this sliping side. So like you two were just down for the count in for anything. It was so fun to see and he just fitten perfectly. Like he's that type of person that I think can converse with anyone feel comfortable. It's not like you had to be right there with him the entire time. Like he was very much just so outgoing and so friendly and so yeah, we all are huge fans of Mitch, now, thank you. Yeah, he's an adventurer definitely, Like I found that out really quick. He very much just likes to throw himself into things, and uh just he was like a kid. He likes to have fun and play around and it just makes it so we have a very like playful element to our relationship. And whenever we've traveled, like he's gotten me to do things I wouldn't probably normally do in my owns. That's you too, yeah, Like I'm sure you both kind of bounce each other out and push each other and are so so adventurous. Um, Okay, I need to go back to this ring though, because when you showed it off at the beginning, it was stunning. Did you kind to tell him what you wanted or did he just go on blind and he just picked out the star of the show. So I gave him like my sister more so is the one that kind of geared him into a direction. Um. But and I kind of like, you know, it was like said little things that I was interested in. But he actually went to a jeweler that was a family jeweler, um called Anderson Jeweler. His mom's wedding ring. Like they worked on her wedding ring as well. So it was in the family, which is really nice, and so he worked with them to create it. So he did. It was so funny. After he proposed we were and we were talking like later that night. He like knew all the facts about different cuts and like how the diamonds worked and everything. And yeah, he likes said to gather very much. So he loves he does research and gathers his information. And he was just like a professional on it. So he's not going to be exactly right. Well he I just love that he's curious as well, because we could just teach each other things all the time. You know, things we've researched are like we're curious about and zo um. So yeah, I enjoyed hearing the behind the same story on how the ring came to be. It's beautiful and it's perfect for you. I feel like it has this like slight antique vintage vibe with the two side diamonds and it's I feel like it's so fitting for you. Oh thanks, I did get so crazy. I never It's weird because I never really pictured what kind of engagement ring I would have, like, let alone being engaged. It just wasn't really something that I had ever really thought about. But as soon as like Mitch and I were together, it just seemed like I was like, oh, it just also it was kind of awkward, like awkward like talking about it, like oh, yes, like engagement you know, I don't know, it was so funny. It was just something that I had never really dove into before. So yeah, but it was yeah, you were you were top three at R season, you were so close to that finish line. I was gonna say, oh, you know, I was never asked about engagement rings, so I wasn't he don't worry shit, Well, well damn okay, So are you the person to like pick up exactly what you want for a wedding then, even though when it's in the future, like do you have really must have? Not really? I mean, I feel like the most important thing to me is having a fun time he have friends and family there, and yeah, just making it close like I don't want to. I used to actually be a wedding photographer, like an assistant wedding photographer, So I've been to a lot of weddings, and what I've noticed is that a lot of the time to get so caught up in like capturing little moments, you know, and I almost feel like the briding groom or like pulled from one place to another where there's a photo off. We just to take it, do this this. I don't really want it to be like that as structured. I more so want it to be like be blowing and you know, so that's the only thing that I kind of have in mind for a wedding. Well, I am. I just started like very tentatively, like dipping my toes in the water for wedding and planning. So chat about this like once you're closer to it too, because I'm like, I don't know where to beget, I don't know what to do. Yes, have you? Okay, so sorry, we're all over the place right now. But obviously the last time we did see you was on Paradise to years ago, and then you were also on it what You're twenty nineteen, the year before COVID, right was that season? So season six and seven technically, even though there was like a break in between. Did you happen to watch like the most recent season of Paradise But I have not taught up with it? No, Okay, I feel like I haven't. I just don't know the characters anymore. You know, you're used to seeing everybody in Bachelor and then Bachelorette and then then Paradise. You have more like a background as to who they are. So I don't even know too much about But it's a great venture. I mean, there's probably having a great time. I mean, yeah, sure, what about German Bachelor? Is there is there a German Bachelor? There is a German Bachelor? There is there? Really? Yeah, I believe so that would be. And there are in the language? Yeah, isn't there an Australia? Is there? There's an Australian? There is one? Two? Right, I feel a couple of friends who did Australia's Yeah, quite a few coins. Um, there's a lot of Japanese one. Yes, I think Japan. I'd been so curious to compare, like, oh yeah, compare how it is, and like I would just talking to somebody who has been in that experience to compare just like the American I experience. Well, well, no, that's true. I was talking to Yuki who did um. I think she was the one that was chosen for the Japanese Bachelor. Um, And she said that there was like no kissing or anything until like she was chosen at the end and that's when there was a kiss. Very reserve. I never watched it, but the way that she presented it made it seem like it was very polite, and I'm not surprised because Japan is very polite country and I love That's why I love loved visiting there because everyone was so kind. Yeah, and then the Australian I know, I've a friend Lily who was the bachelortte actually in Australia, and well she's kind of like a crazy personality, so she was predy. Yeah. They were both on Winter Games, correct they were Yeah, okay that's how I met Yeah, okay, okay, it's all coming together now. Yeah, there's quite a few offshoots. I would it would be interesting to see how they differ. But I will say, like I said a little bit ago, a great way to learn the language. Do you have any plans on like taking a German language course or like what is your mindset in trying to learn this language if you want to? Yeah, no, I actually a hundred percent want to learn the language. My mind works in a way where I like learning phrases that I can actually implement into the real world. So I'm listening to this podcast I think it's called like German one podcast, um, and I'm listening to nineties German pop music. Hell yeah, So that helps, And I learned like little phrases. So I've learned how to say um uh exchoolly glunk, which is like sorry, m so um what is it called kennie uh veil Deutsch speaking and it's I can only speak a little bit of German and so wow yeah, and then say and I can say like speaking z English and like be speak English. Yeah, We're going to meet you on in like three months to see where we're at. Oh man, that's that's that would be good because will hold me accountable and so I'll actually have to learn more German. Well, I love that you said you're listening to nineties German songs. That's so I took French back in the day. And that's actually how our teacher helped us learn the languages. She would start class every day with she would print out the lyrics and she'd have missing words in the lyrics, and then we would have to listen to the song like two or three times and write in to see like what words we're missing? So so so cool because you can have a cadence of the music. It's it's a fun way to memorize things, like I'll think of lyrics in my head. Um, so, like there's a song that it's like it's like a nursery rhyme but teaches you had to count. So it's like, uh so it it goes like I spied. I don't know, I'm butcher right now, but it counts like one too, Like wait, wait is this sense thing nish in America? That one? Oh no, it's not that one. It goes yeah yeah yeah, baslus yeah yeah yeah, like what I'm looking at? What is with you? Now? I'm we should do we should do it in the car Babel rose that a stone. I'm gonna be over here, bop into the German alphabet as soon as we get off. Now it's a difficult, like that's the same alphabet, the same letters as in English. The English language. The English language has like Germanic and Latin roots, so a lot of the words are actually similar. Oh that makes them a little bit easier than for you have no idea? Yeah, what has been the hardest cultural barrier, Like, have you found it difficult to get around? Do? Most people have some foundational English that they can kind of help direct you if you need it. Yeah. The most German speech speak at least two or three different languages, which is like amazing. But the most difficult thing has been driving because all the street signs are different. So and it's also really difficult to read like the names of the exits because they're very long Germanic names, and it's you know, it's just difficult to kind of like figure out. And the way that the roads are like structured. It's like turning is difficult, Like we went down the wrong side of the road like twice. There's a lot of constructions. Yeah, that's probably the most difficult part about moving here sols to you though for you two already taken the what is it the wheel the seared by the wheel, and like driving already, I would be way too nervous. I think I have not driven yet. Nich has driven. He is more gutsy than I am in that regard. He's I would probably run into something. I'm not saying I'm a great drivers not but uh so I know I've driven with you before. No, you were a good driver. We drive in your convertible that one time. That's true, that was really fun. Yeah, it was such a last I feel confident driving in America. Um, and we usually I try to drive like my sister calls me a grandma driver, but she is an insane driver. So all right, Kendall, Um, I know it's very late where you are, so we won't keep you too much longer. Before we get into like this whole last part. I want to ask you, do you have any big goals for this next year. We talked a little bit last week on Happy Hour about resolution, so I'm not gonna ask about New Year's resolutions, but goals for twenty twenty three for you definitely. Um, just kind of ingraining myself in the culture here has been a big goal, and I'm really excited to learn the language and to really fully take advantage of the opportunity that is living abroad and learn as much as I can. And um, yeah, work wise, definitely doing certain things I'm excited about. So there's always that yea and yeah, So mainly it's like trying to embody being German. You know, I got a little bit of it in my blood. So that's such a fun goal though. Yeah, it's it's a Germany is a difficult place to I guess integrate into. But it's because of that that makes it so much worth it. I have a friend who lives here and so that really helps. Good. Yeah, he's German, so he has taught Mitch and I so much and so yeah, I have helped. You know, I'm not to get alone. Oh that makes it better. Yeah, it'll be I'm sure, as you said, worthwhile, it'll it'll be a thing like keep you on your towels for sure, but you can definitely, I think, do something with it each and every day for sure. Oh yeah, I mean that's what makes life fun and interesting, like always having a different challenge and kind of just like a little just sketch. He knows that he thought you knew how life was no stratch. So well, I can't watch your story. I will say this, Kendall. I we have not met in person, but our first time that we're going to be meeting might be when I tag along with Becca to Germany. Yeah. I love Germany and I'm not a beer drinker, but I feel like when you go to Germany, you have to. You have to try the beer. I will definitely be trying the pretzels with you. Um, and and then we can talk tax to Germany. Yeah. Oh yeah, it's beautiful here during summer. I've heard people will jump into the river and just kind of like go to work through there. I don't know, it was like, yeah, if there's a lot of really fun fun commute, yeah, like swim, they'll swim yeah, river to get water. Well, okay, they must have really good like clean water system yeah, or just waterproo phone cases. Yeah, like water what do you do this or something? I think they must have like a waterproof bag. There's also like a volleyball court inside one of the rivers that Mitch wants to play on. Um. Yeah, it's like kind of partially submerged in the river. So okay, yes, they really are so much fun exploring. I cannot wait to follow this new chapter along on Instagram with you and come come see one day. Um. So before we let you go, we got to get into our little resource section. We always love to keep our listeners formed in chair important resources. So Michelle, do you want to start this week? Sure? I will start during my time when I was not feeling so great. I watched there's this docu series it's called Profiled, and there's more than one season, but season one is like specifically like Profiled. It cuts down how black men are profiled. Everything. It like tunes into special cases, gives like the background, really breaks everything down in a way that can be well received, is what I would say about it. And you're I can't even remember how many episodes it was, but it like it throws you into it, it jumps to it right away. You can kind of watch each of the season's separately if you want to, or sorry, each of the episodes differ separately if you want to. It's kind of like a little bit like Black Mirror. I don't know why I'm comparing these two, but like it's a little bit like that where it's like it doesn't matter, you can just jump into whatever episode. So they're all kind of like separate but like still the same concept. Yeah, and I know that there was one that just came back came back in it like viewed into George Floyd. I know that there's one that went into um shoot a different murder also that was all about like racial profiling and goes in and you know, like the mother breaks it all down. It was just so so interesting and it's very well done. Um this one I watched on Amazon Prime, but I did check it's also on Discovery Plus. But if you have Prime, yeah, Amazon Prime, like you'll be able to watch it for free. Otherwise, like you could rent it if really profiled profiled Yep, it cool, thanks for shell. Yeah. So the one that I'm going to share today is a little outside the box, so bear with me. But this past week Thomas and I started, um the Megan Markel and Prince Harry documentary and it obviously like just gets into the timeline of their relationship right, but also especially within episode two and three, it gets more into the history of Great Britain and the roots and how slavery was a huge part of creating that country and how it's still pretty prevalent today. But it also touches on two things that set out to me. One like just the way Megan Markle was profiled within especially the British press. There was a lot of racist undertones talk in the headlines talking about her background and her upbringing, and a lot of it was like also very factually incorrect. The media didn't always fact check everything, which is not a good look for the media. But but also it talks about and this is Prince Harry actually touches on this, I think in episode three, touches on the different unconscious bias that he dealt with growing up and how he didn't even realize he had these biases and tell later in life and especially after meeting Megan and dating Megan and seeing the headlines out there about him about her. So it really it's a very interesting documentary. There's so many components to it, but those were my main takeaways from especially episode two and three. And if Prince Harry can emit his implicit bias or is unconscious bias that he had growing up, I think we all can and just learn from it and get to the root of maybe where it stems from or the ones that we all carry internally. But it was again kind of off the beaten path for a resource here, but I think it's still something that everyone can learn from and half takeaways from, so that it's going to be my resource of the week. Honestly, that's not even that's not I don't see that off the beaten path whatsoever, because I binged it this past weekend, and it is. It is really well done in the sense of like, for example, the whole profiling, like people are saying that, um, Megan Marco came from like compting compt and like these like rough rough areas, which even if she had so what so, But that's not even true. It's not even true. Yeah, but that's what's crazy. And just like all of like the racist artists that were you know, paintings and stuff that that were the statues, the statues and all this stuff, and then the conversation that her mom had to have with her about just the different language that's being used to describe her. It's just wow. So yeah, it was, it's done really well. It was, And it was so interesting because they they'll touch on, for instance, like the British press and different headlines and they won't even like read headlines word for word, but like they'll pull them all up on the screens you can kind of see and there's certain words that like on their own, you know, if they're if it's just on their own, you probably wouldn't think about. But in the context of talk about Megan Markle, who is a biracial woman, it's I'm like, how did half of this ship go to print? Like it's and again you know, like I I remember like watching on the news and like on social media when they got together and like knowing kind of just like the gist of everything. I never really got into them as a couple just because I was like whatever. But um, yeah, it's a really well done documentary. Um, so everyone please if you have time. I don't know how many episodes is it total? Is it three? I'm I just finished, oh at six, so I'm halfway. Oh wow. Okay, so I watched a lot this weekend. I just flew by. The next three out next week. Okay, I haven't seen Yeah, I feel like I've been like it. Yeah it's yeah. Um so great, great watch. Um and with that Kendall girlfriend, you are up. So one of my favorite influencers that I follow is Black Forager. I have been foraging for like, I don't know too much about it yet, foraging for a couple of years, but she has just so much knowledge about the culture behind it, the indigenous people who have been foraging in America since way before we've been got here, And I just love her knowledge that she brings the table not only with like different plants you can utilize, but just also what it's like to be a black woman in the forging space. And yeah, I just think she's very well. She's just extremely like has a wealth of knowledge and so I've just really enjoyed following her like a number of years. So that is and it's just I'm assuming at Black Forager. That's her, Yes, Black Forager, all right, yeah her out? Thank you? Um, Okay, so we're going to close it out on a fun high note. You've done this for but the Thorn and the Rose. And usually we'll do this like first specific season or episode, but because there is not one and so many fun things are going on in your life, we wanted to just go into your world. So the Thorn maybe like the messiest, most awkward moment that you've experienced lately, and then obviously the Rose, which is a top highlight. I think the most awkward experience that I've gone through recently was going to a grocery store and then trying to talk to the woman at the register, like trying to say, oh, I don't speak much German, and her just kind of looking at me like why I Like, obviously I'm pronouncing it like isn't correct, I'm probably saying something really weird and abstract. So that was probably the most uncomfortable situation that I've that I've been in recently, just like not knowing what I'm saying when I'm trying to say things U and the Rose would be just starting something completely new and scary with somebody that I love, and yeah, it just makes it. It makes it that much more exciting and better being able to experience it with niche like together. So yeah, um, I feel like there's going to be a lot of growth these next few years, and um, I'm really I'm so excited for that. So yeah, oh well, I you have such a support system with both Thomas and I and I'm sure Michelle now oh you too, So anything, yes, oh we would love to anything from a far that you need, please let us know. But also like we're really going to try to make it out there to see you and celebrate your love because I couldn't see you off before you you left me. Um but I know, I know, And it was like also Thanksgiving week and there was so much was going on in your in your world, so um, I wish I could have given you will hug goodbye, but one day very soon. Um. But again, I know it's so late there, so thank you for calling in from Germany. UM. Hopefully you'll acclimate acclimate to the time more in the next couple of weeks. Um.
