Okay, And you know what I real there's seventeen and five since since that lost in Chicago, so since the twenty sixth right of of April seventeen and five, and I just love the a lot of the at bats. I mean, they they're not overswinging, and it's very tempting to go into course field and overswing and I just see all the swings are in control. They're you know, happy to take their base head, happy to take their double, not looking to murder everything and coming out of their shoes and over swinging, uh and then chasing and a lot of the things that plagued them in the month of October, and they try to do too much. So I mean, you look at their numbers since in this seventeen and five stretch, all of their offensive numbers are right near the top in Major League Baseball, and their strikeouts are way down. Their walk grate is up, their batting averages is up, their runs scored is up. They're slugging is up. You know, Turner has been on fire. I mean, you know, you're not seeing the lift and pull and power, but you're seeing a lot of getting on base, a lot of base hits.

Speaker 5: So I'm really liking what i'm seeing with the offense, taking what you can get and being happy with it.

Speaker 5: At some point they're going to light it up with home runs and they're going to have a week when we all go wow with the power. But right now, love the way they're scoring runs. Love the way they're approaching their offense.

Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of folks saying in the beginning of the year that they ran it back, they haven't really done much with the lineup, which I guess had not, But as far as their approach is concerned, what they've done this is sort of the maturation of what's happened from the beginning of the season. They weren't slugging, but they were putting the ball in play. They were not striking out a lot. Their swing decisions were good, and they've improved and now you're seeing more consistent hard contact. You're seeing quality at bats with men in scoring position, which you weren't seeing before, and that was a concern for a little while. They're putting it all together and it's a little bit of a development of the thought process that I think a lot of them have decided. You know what, we need to make some changes, and we're making them, and they're now coming to fruition in a really mature way. It's almost like watching like a young player develop into a major leaguer, and I see that sort of development with their overall process.

Speaker 5: One thing that kind of strikes me is we talked lot over the winter about you know, you said, you know, running it back in additions and whatever they need to do. That the biggest improvement that could come from this lineup is not necessarily what you bring in from the outside. It's the improvement of Stott and Turner, and I think both have improved well.

Speaker 2: But we have Bobby Dickerson on just on Friday. If you guys have not listened to the Bobby Dickerson episode that was that was great. Had a lot of a lot of people telling us how how much they enjoyed that. But even Bobby Dickerson was talking about infield play and how Trey Turner he believes is still kind of working through some things. It can still get better. So you know it, the same thing can happen offensively, you know, with all these guys, So you guys are constantly and it can happen.

Speaker 3: Caught Kyle Warber's for a good example, just because he's you know, he's changed his whole mindset. And I think when you have a leader in the clubhouse that changes his overall approach to doing things, then you know it clicks. Like if you know Garren Dalton all of a sudden or Chase Up or someone like that, we're making like a paradigm shift in there in their overall approach and it had success. Then it's easy as a player to go, hey, maybe maybe there's something to take away from this.

Speaker 2: So Monday Tuesday morning, I tweet out that the Phillies have the best record or to have taken on first place in the National League East, which they have. They've now got a game and a half lead over the Mets. They have the best record in the National League. They have the second best record in baseball. And of course what was the first response, Who have they played recently? You got one of those you know.

Speaker 2: Up exactly right, don't you know? I would say, don't be one of those people that says, who have they played like recently? Right, you can only play who you played. Who's on the schedule. You know right now that the Phillies are eighteen and three against teams with the losing records. They're two games under five hundred, they're thirteen to fifteen against teams with losing records, are a winning records. But you know they're playing their best baseball right now. If a feeling if they played some of these other teams, they would be faring fairly well against them.

Speaker 3: So the residual effect of playing well against those teams is that when you get to play those other teams that are better, you're feeling better about yourself. You're in rhythm. I mean, you can't.

Speaker 3: Their pitching has been ridiculous. Their starting pitching has just been off the charts. So we're talking about offense, but to me, it's really about the starting pitching that's giving them a chance to win every night, which is first and foremost in my heart and always will be till the day I die. That if you have the quality starting pitching, you got a chance to win every single day.

And when he pitched in Colorado, great change up. I thought he had a really good change up and then that you know that modified slider sweeper dropped down wrangle and it's almost back footage. It's it's uh, you know that down on the zone is a really good pitch too. Seems like it's been a great acquisition so far. It kind of reminds me of the role that Ranger was on early last last season. So he got a nice demeanor about him too, very business like. Seems to really enjoy being affiliate. I mean, why wouldn't you go from you know, banging around in that empty stadium in Miami to an electric place like this to a team that's got a chance to win. It's got to really brighten everything about your game.

Speaker 3: When you add one fifth twenty percent of your rotation is I think about this as like an NBA team. You have one sort of superstar that's added to your team, then you become a really good team. And that's exactly what you're seeing with the.

Speaker 3: He has taken to whatever Caleb Cotham's added to the program for him, his overall maturation and his health because that's been important. Hopefully he'll continue to be healthy. But although things and being in a winning atmosphere and an expectation to win I think all those things can change your ability to post up every day and to challenge yourself, and he certainly has done that.

And he went out because he had he ran a high pitch count in the middle innings, and then they give him that one more. And I'm sure Rob and Kayleb was sitting there saying, well, if he has an eighteen or twenty four pitch inning, now we're gonna go get him.

You know, if we're going to talk about a player, spotlight a player. I think this week in Colorado, we've got to talk about Kyle Schwarber. His three hundredth career home run on Monday night in Colorado, and that wasn't a cheapie, a mighty ridiculous hits. His three hundredth career home run goes four hundred and sixty six feet. It's the longest least. It's the third longest home run in Major League Baseball this season. Mike Trout hit one four hundred and eighty four feet. Aaron Judge snuck one past Kyle at four hundred and sixty eight feet. It's the ninth longest homer of Kyle Schwarber's career, which is crazy. He's hit eight longer. Can you guys remember the longest home run he's ever hit. It came into Phillies uniform.

I said, Holy crap, he hit that ball far. And then Aj Cassavel covers the padres for us at MLB dot Com goes, I've never seen anybody hit a ball that far in batting practice before, liket What And then a couple of the other writers local San Diego rays go, Yeah, he's right, I've never seen I've never seen anybody, even in BP hit one into the second deck.

Speaker 3: To B, which is going to getting it in the zone, B two C, which is in the zone, and then C to D when you finish him. From B to D is insane and B two C it's insane how quickly it gets through the zone and how powerfully it does. And what he's done is he's sort of lengthened out his B two C so that he's given himself even more opportunities to make solid contact, which is what Wade Boggs did as well as anybody, Tony Gwynn, all those guys. But he's starting to do that with power, yeah, and consistency, and the fact that he's doing it against left handers at that rate, he's maybe the best.

Speaker 2: Then he hits one. Of course on Tuesday, so he's got three oh one. But after Monday night's game, he said, it's a cool milestone. I think the biggest thing is there's a lot more to come. So you immediately start thinking. First of all, he started thinking, they got to resign this guy, right, But then second you go, if they resign him, could he hit five hundred home runs in the Phillies uniform? I mean, so's a he's averaged right now, He's on pace to hit like well over fifty. But say he slows down season he finishes with forty five, he will have averaged about forty four home runs over the last four seasons with the Phillies. If he stays on that pace, he'd hit five hundred by the end of the twenty nine season, and they'd say he averages thirty five home runs over the next several years. He would hit it by hit five hundred by the end of the thirty thirty three seasons. So do we think he can get to five hundred?

Speaker 3: He's going to get some Hall of Fame votes, no question about it, especially if he continues to improve, like his overall approach has been so so much better since the twenty twenty two season. From twenty to twenty three to twenty four, he made adjustments. I mean he's made adjustments and he's gotten just as he's matured, he's gotten better and he's just a strong, powerful guy if his lower half stays strong, because his lower half right now is as healthy as he's been in a long time. His knee, his hips, whatever he had going on in a couple of different years. The fact that he can DH and not have to go to the outfield unless you know, you know, Topper throws him out there, want to throw.

Speaker 3: But but if he can he can do this for a long time, there's no stop in the DH. So I don't know, Scot sort of the sky's the limit, man. Obviously, he has to stay healthy and especially his lower half. We saw what happened to Ryan Howard when his lower half was gone.

Speaker 4: He really struggled. But again, you can't bank on a guy blown out.

Speaker 5: So as health is number one for any player. Of course, we saw Roy Halliday, the great Roy Halliday, you know he broke, he broke. We saw Ryan Howard, he broke. I mean, you have to stay healthy, your your you know, your body is your money maker. If you if something goes awry, you're screwed. And that's the the risk to take with contracts for guys in the thirties.

Speaker 5: A uh, this guy is a producer. He has become a great Philly and you know, you're in a ballpark where power matters. He's at a position that you know, if he does stay healthy, he can you know, keep keep doing a good job there. It's not like he's pounding his body in the outfield every night. And we think with that bat speed he can hold up for a long time. So I I think, you know, in terms of the risk of a contract, I think it's a sound risk that you're going to have to hang on to this guy.

And Jose Alvarado on Sunday busted eighty games for perform enhancing band Substance and Mark Finesand from MLB dot com on Monday. Late Monday rhatist story saying that the Phillies had reached out to free agent relief pitcher David Robertson. Talks were not serious. I think it sounded like to me it was more of a just a checking in type of situation. Hey are you throwing that? Whatever it might be. But I wanted to get your guys opinion that because the Phillies were already probably going to get a reliever, right, we all agreed. We said this on Monday's episode before the July thirty first trade downline, they're probably already going to get another try to get another high leverage reliever. Probably now they lose Jose Alvarado, maybe now they feel like they need to get two. That's a lot of potential prospect capital they might have to get to trade to get too high leverage relievers. Unless unless you like David Robertson and maybe sign him as a free agent contract. Do you guys have any interest in that David Robertson, Maybe, especially if you still feel like you need to get two guys save another couple prospects in the process.

Maybe it was two thousand and ninth, Sorry, thousand and nine, two thousand and nine, and we picked up because Pedro pitched in that World Series. But yeah, I mean we ended up getting Cliff Ley and Pedro Martinez to add to our rotation. We got Pedro basically off the shelf, and that was helpful because we didn't have to pay anything for him except this salary. And you know, listen, anytime you can get a veteran guy, I talk about this all the time. If it's a veteran guy who's been through the wars. Maybe he can help you, maybe he can't. Maybe worth the experiment, why not? What's the what's the downside?

You know, you're reaching out to you have a huge front office. They're touching base with everybody. They just signed a couple of guys to minor league contracts coming off injuries.

Speaker 5: He's got a you know, Taiwan's been through the Wars. We talk a lot about relievers, and you know, young relievers have stuff. Could he really well, you know, you got to get beat up a little bit, get your nose bloodied a little bit, and have that you know, kind of barbed wire exterior to make it in pressure packed situations as a reliever. Taiwan's been through the Wars, has been through a lot. Maybe he could handle, you know, some of those assignments because he has and he's if if his stuff plays, I'm still concerned about the stuff. He's got to have that tick on the fastball, got to have that good split. But you know, in terms of filling this, I'm all for just looking what you got right now before making a decision on a trade and having to lose a player, because I would love to hang on to this prospect, Core, I really would. I'm very excited about it and intrigued by it. And I think because you have an aging big league roster, you're gonna need to funnel these guys in here soon.
