He doesn't owe anyone an explanation about his hirings. He's the coach. You all should shut up, but would be very hard to do a show if we shut up all the time, I would respectfully disagree Ryan that the coach of a public university does not does not owe the people who are the fans of a public school explanations. I think that's part of the part of the gig. I mean, one of the things I love about Mark Pope is he says all the time. I think I heard him say yesterday he was like, yes, there's a lot of pressure, but you should I think he said the pressure is beautiful because if he don't have pressure, that means it doesn't matter. And if it doesn't matter, then why are we doing this? And I appreciate he gets all that, but part of that pressure means, you know what, Yes, we care about this stuff, and you do need to explain it to us. This is not you know, you don't just get to live in secrecy. And I think fans have a right to wonder about whether this is gonna happen.

Speaker 4: The reason there are all of these people here is because Kentucky basketball matters to people in a way that it just doesn't matter anywhere else. And that and that that is oh was that gonna say this anyway? But I'll that is beautiful in a lot of wayscial and but you have to embrace it. Listen, I say this all the time. No one cares about this like we do. You know, I went to Duke, I've been to Duke in North Carolina games. They care, But it's not the same as this, it's different, like it's different. Probably the only place on Earth that cares like we do might be Kansas, right, So you know, but with that comes intent, you know, more scrutiny. We've been to NBA games where there are fewer reporters than there are at Kentucky games. That's just kind of you know how it is. And so that comes with the with the territory. A couple things here. First of all, the women's team. I don't want to skip the women's team. They're good, and they play Saturday or Sunday, excuse me, against South Carolina, right in the final game of the season. They play the most powerful team in the country on a year in year up basis, South Carolina. This is a huge game for Kentucky. If they could win, they have a chance to get I don't know, three seed, maybe a four seed in the NCAA Tournament. And anytime you get Don Staley in South Carolina coming in, if you can get a win, it's huge for your program. You think they have a shot.

I mean, obviously South Carolina is great, but you're right, there's a lot of stake If Kentucky can get one of that three or four seed, they can host those first two round games in Lexington. That's kind of so huge importance. So they can pull this one out. Man, it could really change a lot of things for March Maddens.

Speaker 4: If you look at the women's bracketology, if Kentucky could win Sunday, they could get to host, which in the women's tournament, I like the men's the first two rounds are in home Arinas. Yeah, they could get a chance to host. So this is a big game.

They've had some bad losses, but I think when you have a player like Clara Strack, there's just not many of her. When they get to the tournament, they are set up to make a good run. I think last year that heartbreaking loss where Georgia Amore had the look and it fell. I could touched the rim nine times and didn't go in. I'm excited to see them maybe take a step further in the second year of Kenny Brooks.

And so for years, like part of me is like, man, that would have been a cool place to work because he does well. I just found out he got convicted yesterday and is going to federal prison for anywhere from five to thirty years for not paying his taxes.

He was a high stakes poker player, Okay, would play in these huge poker tournaments, and he was really good, and he would win a lot of money and then try to hide it from the irs. And again, this is a guy who spends his life arguing in front of the Supreme Court and writing about the Supreme Court. The details of what he did are wild. He one time was playing one on one poker, okay, me versus you for two straight days, and he won a lot of money from the guy he was playing. Take a guess how much money this dude won playing one on one poker with a rich, unnamed businessman.

Now, because he was in this poker world, lots of poker people used him as their lawyer. He represented Toby McGuire, you know, the actor Toby McGuire. Toby McGuire had been playing one on one poker. He won seven million dollars from a businessman. The businessman didn't pay. He hires the lawyer to go and get the money. For lawyer does it, gets the judgment. He owes Toby McGuire five hundred thousand dollars for or Toby maguire owes him five hundred thousand dollars for his legal services. He tells Toby McGuire, hey, man, instead of paying me, just pay this guy over there, somebody he owed money to.

Speaker 4: Tobyguire testifies in federal court that was one of the ways he would try to keep the IRS from seeing his money. He would make his legal fees paid out to other people and then write to the irs that he it was paid to him. So he did this entire scheme and now he's going to prison. This is a guy who spent his entire life covering the Supreme Court, and now he will go to prison for high for hiding.

So looking, you know, obviously everybody knows in March guards winning mark. So over the past four games, you know, looking at say Owa and Denzel Aberdeen, Oway averaging, I think it's like nineteen and a half and Aberdeen at sixteen and a half. And Chandler has been shooting the ball.

Speaker 4: You make a very good point about the guards, all right, So, and I appreciate the call. If you look at the history of ryan of NCAA tournament teams that win, it is very, very very rare for a team to win a title whose best players are big. It's not I mean, we did with Anthony Davis, but it is rare. Usually in March, guards win titles, yep, and guards take teams to the final four. So if you were wanting to be optimistic about Kentucky's March run, it's a good sign that our three best players are probably the guards now those guards can be inconsistent, you know, they Chandler can go cold, Away has missus layups. Obviously, Aberdeen had a bad first half of the year. But if you wanted to be optimistic, a case for us being good is the best teams in March usually ride their guards, and we do have really good guards.

Speaker 1: And I think Oway and Aberdeen and Channa could carry a team through a couple of games in March mans for sure. But we saw what South Carolina did. Ohway, they said, okay, you Oa and Channel, they're not gonna beat this, We're gonna take them out and that.

They got great bigs, but I don't think their guards are good enough, and in them in March, it's just you. There's exceptions, but you tend to win with guards. It's looking like at least two of our guys may get drafted, maybe even three, and another one might be the fastest player at the combine. So we'll go through it. David Gusta, who played on the defensive line last year. Some people may not even remember that he was on the team, although he played pretty well some of the year.

Speaker 4: David Gusta ran like a four to eight forty. He did forty reps, which is like a crazy amount apparently on the bench press, and he's like considered one of the best performers so far in the combine. So we're probably gonna see to him get drafted.

Speaker 6: Yeah, he was one of the biggest names, if not the biggest name they got in the portal last spring, and he had a good year. That defensive line actually played pretty well, the whole unit, but we were all just kind of caught up in the bigger picture of Kentucky football and didn't really get to shin the light on him, and he probably deserved.

Speaker 4: And then your guy Jagger, Yeah, he's looking like he's gonna get picked somewhere in Jagger Burton from Lexington, somewhere in the middle to late rounds and offensive line. He's ranked as one of the top eight centers in the draft.

Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why they moved him to centate. They think that was his future in the NFL. He's got long arms, he's smart, he can read the defenses and make the cuts the right cuts that calls. So I'm really happy in proud of Jagger.

Yeah, and they're saying that he and another guy have a chance to contend for the fastest forty ever at the combine. Keedrick Law, Like we didn't. We never even got him the ball. And this is a dude who might they're saying he may very well make NFL teams as a kick returner.

You know, he's getting like nine catches a game there for a few weeks, and it kind of like you're saying, it's like, well, where was that All season? Ryan and I don't think as people. There was all that information at the beginning, and it's been a little quiet spring practice starting. But I really like what Will is building.

But a lot of recruiting now is talking to agents. He clearly is not good at that. Find somebody who can do that, and it probably is somebody who worked at Nike, you know whatever. But what you don't want to do is just go hire a guy that you happen to play with. Yeah.

Let's talk about one thing that is was is in the news about broadcasting, all right, so college sport. Everybody knows that there needs to be regulations in college sports. Donald Trump announced yesterday he's gonna have a round table to talk about college sports. He's invited a list of people that have nothing to do with college sports. So I don't think it's going to be very productive. However, there is something going on that I do think is important, which is there's a fight right now drew between the commissioners of the SEC and the Big Ten and everyone else in college sports. I'll give you the quick version of it right now. The way you do television, each conference negotiates their own deal, right, So the SECS is with ESPN, That's why our games are on ESPN, SEC Network, etc. Like the Big Ten their deal is with Fox and CBS, et cetera. So each conference does it their own way. Well what does that end up doing? The conferences that are the most powerful, they get more money. Right, So part of why the SEC and the Big Ten are dominating sports. We get a lot more money on our TV deals than the ACC and the Big twelve. Kentucky gets, like use Louisville as an example, Kentucky gets twice as much money as Louisville does from their TV deal. Well, you guys, remember when you were watching college football this year a guy would get on television and go, we need to save college sports. And he'd be standing in front of a truck and he'd be like, let's do the Save the College Sports Act.

Speaker 4: His name's Cody Campbell. Well, here's what he wants. He wants all the conferences to come together, pull their TV rights and sell them together. He says, we'll make more money if we do that. Well sort of the conferences like the ACC and the Big twelve will make more money, but SEC and Big ten will not. Now what was interesting is Mitch Barnhart, if you remember, agreed with him, and I think I told you on this show at the time, I was like, I'm kind of surprised Mitch Barnhart has that position. Well, yesterday the SEC and the Big ten came out and said they disagree with him, do not want to pull the rights. The reason that's important is as we're trying to get legislation to regulate it now Drew, the major conferences are not even agreeing with each other, and I think that is going to make it much much harder to get the stuff passed.
