Man. I'm always watching those things just because the number of times when they just nail it, when it's like, okay, the points met is twelve and a half and they win by thirteen. Dylan, congratulations, you had the Jets and the money line, didn't you?

Speaker 5: I did, Dan, And that first drive was, dare I say, inspiring? And then it was very very quickly uninspiring.

Speaker 2: And I'm watching Justin Fields, and it made me, it dawned on me last night as I'm watching him of how easy college can be for certain quarterbacks at certain programs, like being the quarterback at Ohio State where receivers were wide open. Justin Fields was a really good quarterback at Ohio State. Like he was athletic, he could throw the football at an unbelievable game against Georgia. And now you realize the difference between college and the pros because he's not a starting quarterback in the NFL. If your game plan is basically just spread every buddy out and let him run, then he could be your quarterback. But watching last night, it's just not there. Meanwhile, Drake May made it look very easy if you would have had him wear number twelve last night. Now, granted, he's more athletic than Tom Brady, but if he was wearing number twelve last night and you saw him in the pocket, you'd go, oh, they're showing old clips of Brady. Now, granted, the throwback uniforms, I kind of like the look of them. I was okay with it. Like at first I thought somebody's in trouble. Whoever did the laundry is in trouble. Those are faded, and then I was like, okay, it kind of had a Civil War Union.

Speaker 2: Yes, so I was I'm curious how the Patriots would react as being a big favorite in a game you're supposed to win. But for Drake May, Patriots handled the Jets twenty seven fourteen. New England's now nine and two, and I know some nine and twos aren't the same as other nine and twos, but they could end up with home field advantage throughout the entire AFC playoffs. Chiefs aren't going to get home field advantage. You know, still can factor in. You know, Buffalo can win the division. But the Patriots schedule is not that difficult second half of the season, and the West they're beaten up on each other. You got Denver and Kansas City coming up. But watching the Patriots, they're in great shape. I don't think the AFC is great. I think the NFC is top heavy better. But if you're the Patriots and a Patriot fan, you're like, Okay, we can make a run at this. And I think it's probably the first time you watched a Patriot game all the way through and you're probably going, I don't know who some of these guys are except for Stefan Diggs. And he had nine catches for one hundred yards. So that's the thirty ninth one hundred yard our game in his career. The only active player with more is DeVante Adams with forty five stat of.

Patriots swooped in and got Mike Brabel, and just like that, the Patriots are back. And if you look at the division, the Jets are in a rebuild. Buffalo is kind of not as formidable as they've been before, and the Dolphins, who knows, feels like they're in kind of no man's land as well. But the Patriots had won eight in a row, longest winning streak since twenty nineteen, which happened to be Tom Brady's last season in New England. And then the Commanders, even though it's an off year, Jane Daniels, everyone loves him or loved him, rookie deals, still good coach. It just feels like it's set for the next few years. Speaker 2: Yes, I would put Denver in there because I have to believe in Sean Payton and kind of getting bo Nix back to where he was last year. That defense, I think they have forty six sacks so far. It's been I think twenty years since a team maybe thirty years since the team had that many sacks this deep end of the season. So you have a great defense. Seattle seems like they're in pretty good shape. Maybe we're not all in because we want to see what Sam Darnold does in a playoff game, but this is a big game coming up this weekend. You can make an argument that the team that wins the Seattle LA game is the best team in the NFC, and that's saying a lot, but I would put Seattle in there. Sam Darnold's on a team friendly deal. Smith Jigba is their best player. I don't know what his deal is, but other than that, I don't know if you're spending that much money. The Colts situation seems pretty good, but you got to sign up Danny Dimes. So it went from well that's a great story to man, that's fifty million dollars there. Yeah, Pauline, what if.

If I would have told you in August, mid November, late November, the two favorites for the MVP in the NFL would be Drake May and Matthew Stafford, what would you have said about that, because I'm going to guess in the preseason odds they're probably not in the top ten.

Speaker 6: Yes, Paul, they were definitely not in the top ten. Matthew Stafford was plus five thousand, Drake May was plus six thousand. Some of the players ahead of them in preseason MVP odds Tua, Dak Prescott, Trevor Lawrence, Rock Purty, C J. Stroud and all the other big names.

Speaker 9: You know, we have high expectations for Drake, has high expectations for himself, will continue to improve and know that he'll stay humble through this all. And you know again, and then as far as the performance tonight, I thought it was, you know again, in first view, pretty good. He was good enough to win. I mean he took care the football.

Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there were three drops. I mean he could have easily had close to thirty completions in over three hundred yards. And I know you got a factor in there playing the Jets, but still you got a factor in the Jets had won back to back games. You want to see composure. I want to see like how are you from play to play? And that's where you find that out when you actually watch a game. When you watch the red zone, it's very deceived, very misleading. Now it's very convenient. I enjoy watching it, but if I really want to watch a player or watch a team, you got to watch the game and I want to see what you do If there's adversity. I've said before, the most important situation is you've just thrown an interception. What do you do the next time you come out, when you're back on the field after you throw a pick six? How do you react like those That's real. That's important because you can be there and everybody's wide open, and then you have those games when nobody's wide open and there's pressure on you. I thought the Patriots line did a wonderful John. It's it's a group and it's not fair to say no names, but their names you're not familiar with, especially on defense. But imagine Mike Rabel has to wake up every morning and just go, man, I'm so glad I got fired. I'm so glad. I mean to see in the winter and New England in the winter. Okay, but look, he's an Ohio State guy. Mean, he's used to the cold. He played for the Patriots. But you also wake up and you like you have your quarterback. It is I don't know if there's a better feeling for a coach than realizing I have my quarterback, because you can talk to those other coaches who don't have their quarterbacks and life is miserable, all right, let's see Buddha and San Francisco leads us off. It could be like a collaboration of all like the most greatest moments of the show. I mean, you have mcglove and breaking his glasses, Jerry West coming in with your birthday k Chrissy Tigan, decorating the Christmas tree with Fritzy. You know, the greatest haliling costume in DF show history, the pump pass and kick. I mean, there's a slew of many others that we could do, but it just be a fun memorable way to like just kind of like do a final final and then Dan real quick to see Aaron Judge win The al MVP was so lame, Like now cal Relly knows how it feels to not win an Emmy. Speaker 2: Good, thank you Budham. All right, I said I would be fine if Aaron Judge won the MVP. He put up great numbers. His numbers a lot better than Cayl Rowning except for the home runs. Here's the question I would ask when Yankee fans get sensitive about this. If Aaron's Judge was on Seattle and cal Raley was on the Yankees, who wins MVP. And that's a rhetorical question because we know that cal Rawley as catcher of the Yankees and he is a goal glove catcher. He is going to be your MVP. Right they would talk about, oh my gosh, he's the next Thurman Munson. I mean, we know this. This played a role now, Aaron, Aaron Judge can be a liability in the field. He's not a good outfielder. He's a great hitter. He's going to be a Hall of Famer. Cal Rawley plays the most important position in baseball. He's out there every single day. Look at that pitching staff. He helped develop a very good young pitching staff. They made the playoffs. I got a factory in all of those things. But I think the hammer is if cal Rawly was the catcher for the Yankees, hitting sixty home runs, winning the division, developing a young pitching staff. Being a Gold Glove catcher, he wins the MVP. Aaron Judge is great, the numbers are phenomenal. Batting average was you know, probably fifty points higher. I understand all of those things. The hardest position, most important position. You got a Gold Glove catcher and sixty home runs. Okay, you know how many games he missed three. I don't know if he gets another chance. That's not why I would say, you know, he deserved the MVP. I would just say, we forget when you're a catcher. I mean it's you never get a day off when you catch. I can put Aaron Judge in the outfield and he might get four balls hit his way. We've seen him, you know, in the playoffs, be a lot liability out there. But it's not really about he's not a great fielder. It's that cal Rawley is a really good catcher and he had sixty home runs. And I don't want this to be that I'm anti Judge as much as I just think you got a factor in where cal Rawley was doing this in Seattle, and the importance of doing it in a big market. Now, Otani could play anywhere and still win the MVP. But I mean he did it with the Angels, but I think cal Rawley to me, location is what prevented him from winning the MVP.

Speaker 11: Yes, Martin, is there another team that you would have thought, all right, if you played for the Red Sox would have been a closer race, Like you can see them giving it to cal Raley if you played in Boston instead of Seattle.

Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, because their games are seen by more people. I mean, Sam Donald is, you know, doing unbelievable things in Seattle. Nobody's really focused on that. Now. You might say, well, Sam Darnold shown us that you know, he can be good, not great, Okay, but he's still having an incredible year there. I just think location, location, location, And this is about New York real estate doing it in a Yankee uniform. They would have a monument built for him already, they'd have a plaque out there. It's not kid anybody. Yeah, Dylan, I feel like defensively that things have kind of gone by the wayside in the MLB too, Like it's for the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5: Defense wasn't really ever looked at too, And I feel like now for rewards and stuff, it's not even like you don't get docked if it's bad and it doesn't really help you out that much of it's good.

Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's where I want people to realize. This used to be a thing. My catcher is great catchers out there every game. My catcher is developing a pitching staff and and hitting sixty home runs home runs.

Speaker 6: Yes, Pauli, but Dan, you remember a time in the seventies and eighties when if you had a very good catcher and they could hit over two fifty and give you twenty home runs, that was like a luxury item because you had both. Then you have those anomalies like Johnny Bench or cal Rally where like he's both great at catching and great at hitting, and that's come around three or four times in the past forty years.

Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Carlton Fisk was a great catcher, great hitter. Nobody is on par with Johnny Bench. You know, Johnny Bench was I think the best defensive catcher and he also was a great offensive hitter. But you know, it feels like it's that's a long time ago where we're not really factoring in defense, and I think you have to in certain positions, certainly on catcher, you do you have to factor that in if it's a plus. I have to factor that in if it's different, and he's a goal glove catcher. So I just think if he was catcher for the Yankees, this wouldn't have been close the other way that he would have won the MVP. And then show, hey, Otani, now he's going to continue to be the odds on favorite. As long as he's hitting and pitching, and hitting at a high level and pitching at a very good level, he's going to be your MVP because nobody can top that. And plus, when he is hitting, he's the only guy on the screen. When he's pitching, he's the only guy on the screen. So when you're watching, you get to watch him do all of this. When Travis Hunter was playing at Colorado, I had to wait for a replay if he did something on defense, or wait for a replay if he did something on offense. Otani is right there. You tune into a game, he's on the mounta. You tune into a game. Now he's at the plate, So I get to see him him do both of these jobs. At of Air, I don't have to wait and I have to go well, you know, let me see the replay. Oh was that?

And if you look at next year, he's going to hit forty plus home runs in his sleep and his pitching will be a lot more ramped up. He'll probably start twenty games.

Like I'm wondering over the next few years with show Hey, however dominant he is, and they become well, hitters come around to figuring out his style of pitching, and he won't be quite as effective in the next few years.

Speaker 2: Well, he's only going through the lineup maybe twice. You see. The third time is when managers and pitchers get nervous of teams kind of settling in figuring you out. I'm curious if Otani adds another pitch eventually, but hitters, hitters are going to figure you out, and they're always looking for a tell, you know. Then they talk to each other, they go back and look at video, you know, so they're constantly they're they're studying you in the moment, and it feels like hitters eventually figure out the pitchers.

Speaker 6: The other thing with Otani because the Dodgers batting him lead off, they can't really intentionally walk him that often. Barry Bonds in his prime bat at third and he I think he had Jeff Kent behind him a lot. But Barry Bonds was once intentionally walked like one hundred and twenty times in a season. It's freakish by the way. Otani was walked intentional walked only twenty times last year, which seems low for him, but it still led the majors.

Speaker 3: I want to stay really great for your show round for years. You know, the gatekeeper, the stallions out there doing all the work. And about the MVP voting, you sort of sound like it's okay that New York gets the vote, and I'm surprised that somebody doesn't start to question how statistically it's inaccurate, especially how you described about the defensive aspect of the game not being part of it. If someone wanted on your group, wanted to look in the past, nineteen forty one, forty two you got Demagio beats Williams out for the MVP. But if you look at forty two, you look at the statistics, well, it was impossible. It couldn't have been that Joe Gordon would win it. So I guess I'm bothered by how these kinds of things in the sports media seemed to be powered by money and the location rather than what are the statistics?

Yeah, so yeah, O'tonni's still going to win that. Otani goes into every season with a huge advantage because it's like Usain Bolt at the sixty yard mark, sixty meter mark, you're kind of in the picture with him, and then you're not because once he starts and then he gets to pitch. I mean he ramped up his pitching this year, like they were doing like one inning, two innings. I'm anxious to see how much he gets to pitch next year and his hitting. He hits forty home runs, people would be like, what happened? Yeah? I remember when Mark maguire when he hit seven or when he had seventy home runs, and I said, what happens if he hit fifty next year? He goes, yeah, no, bummer, Yeah, like had a down year he hit fifty, but Kyle Rowly had a wonderful year. It was a great story, and I think I was rooting for the story more than anything. But Aaron Judge one of the great hitters that we've seen modern times, and he's going to be a Hall of Famer. So there's no shame if you're Cal Rawley that you lost to Aaron Judge.
