Yeah, it's the Internet. You're busy. Let's do this. I'm Jeff Grub. I write for GamesBeat dot com. I do grub Snacks here on giant bomb dot com, and I'm happy to be hanging out with y'all. This is a the Thanksgiving Spectacular, which just means I wear this hat. Mostly it means I wear this hat and we'll be uh, we'll be doing a check in on some friends here in a bit. We got some questions related to that. U. That doesn't mean any like live guests or anything, nothing like that, but basically just means I spent like five minutes on photoshop right before this thing started. It's a joke. You'll see. I'm ruining it right now just by talking about it. But I'm excited about I can't help myself. So h So. Yeah. Normally when the show I bring you bring out some news, we try to talk about what's happening. This week, I figured we could just go all out with the questions. I really kind of want to focus on the interactive side of it this week, mostly because it's a little bit less stressful for me trying to dig up some some you know, scoops for you all. And we can kind of kick back, take it easy, hang out and talk about video games. Does that sound good? So that means the first thing I need to do is hit this button right here and go right to the questions. Also, my hat's fallen off, so I think it might just take it off. It was fun while it lasted. All right, okay, okay, all right, now we're doing good. Let's start down here from Slane mac awesome actually just to show up on the video but whatever, what video games are you most thankful for? H Yeah, I don't know. I'm thankful for just about any video game I get to play. It's it feels kind of like miraculous that any game comes out at all these days. So, you know, I listened to a movie podcast, the only good movie podcast in the world, the Film Cast, and David Chin and that movie. Whenever they no matter what they say about the movie, he's like, you know, at the end of the days, it's a it's just impressive that you know, whoever directed it released a movie or whatever. It's kind of how I feel about games. Games are so difficult to make that it's kind of a miracle that anything gets released at all. That said, if I'm thinking specifically about what I'm thankful for. I guess the game I'm most thankful for it is probably still Echo Echoes one, the game where it's you know, Minecraft with more systems. Is how I always put it. It's actually an education game about modeling pollution and greenhouse gases and human basically human the human effect that you might have on animal populations and forests and deforestation all that stuff. It models all that stuff, and even like models like if you like walk in the grass, it'll begin like wearing trails in the grass and stuff like that, just to show the effect you have. It's for kids mostly, but its systems are so intricate that I was able to create like an economy with the people with with my friends that we were playing with and we had our own currency, and I caused an economic collapse, and just being able to play around in that economic systems like that is something that I was like, Hey, I like economy is like a thing I like listening to in podcasts and read books about, you know, economics, and it's like, but it's the kind of thing where it's a weird science where you can't really experiment on it because it's unethical to experiment on humans with different economic systems and stuff like that. So you could try some things here and there, but for the most parts of science where you can't really run experiments, and it's like, oh, in this video game, you actually could like test those ideas. And it was really I was like really thankful that someone did. We went through the effort of empowering players to do that. So yeah, it's one of my favorite games of all time, one of my top three favorite games of all times, so eco and it's the one that, like, of my favorite games, it's the one that's the most obscure, so it's like the one I like to shout out the most. All right, uh from feature Creep, how are the kiddos feeling much much better? Thankfully? So yeah, you know, this is how it is. They're back in preschool, both of them now, bringing home various diseases. That's just that's how I remember. That's how it was when the when the older one was in preschool originally, and now they're both in there. And even even with the mask, you know, everyone's wearing masks and school. My county tried to leave the like Tri County Health system that they had mask mandates, and they're like trying to leave because like, we don't need mask mandates because I live in a horrific county. Still, for the most part, most schools still have that mask stuff. But even with that in place, still finding ways to bring home disease to the family. But that said, you know, it seems like we're through that those early bouts and now it'll be probably a couple more weeks before they bring something new home, especially now that everyone's probably traveling for Thanksgiving. I bet they'll go back to school next week bring something else home. But whatever, they're feeling much better. I'm grateful. I'm very happy for that. They the little one, uh, the little one got through it pretty quickly. The older one, I think just caught something and then caught whatever the little one had, and so yeah, I am happy that they are feeling better from winter res Hey grub, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Just wondering what your favorite things given dessert is minus finding out what the hell monoliths monolith is up to? Can you pass me some of that? Yeah, this is when I keep looking at people very interested in what they're doing. I'm you know that that whole that whole group of developers is still sort of a mess. Uh, let's see, I'm want to see. I was like, I'm trying to see been any like recent like public news about it, because the last time I checked on it. What I was able to find is is that they it's everyone is sort of still doesn't know exactly what their future holds. So whatever projects they were may have been working on, they're probably still working on those. But if there's a certain uncertainty, a certain uncertainty that they are operating under while you know, well the organizational structure and acquisitions and potential acquisitions, while all that stuff gets sorted out, you know that that said, you know, there is Warner Brothers still does have the film rights to to uh to uh Lord of the Rings. Right, Yes, That's what I'm trying to think of, And so maybe maybe there's still something happening there. But I don't know that last one didn't do as well. Uh yeah, I'm on a lith I just I wonder if they've ever said anything one or the other about it. Uh yeah, I mean they haven't. They haven't really said anything recently, so I don't know. To me, I think with more Lord of the Rings stuff probably coming down the line. Amazon has that big show still coming, right, and they were gonna do a Lord of the Rings games. Now they're not. Maybe there's something there, We're like, maybe we can get this this team to still do that. All right, let's keep going correct With Sega mentioning that they want to spend up to a billion dollars on the super game. Do you know what kind of game they are trying to make? I mean, like a super game to me just means a game that can be basically just means Final Fantasy fourteen at this point means it could be the one game that a large number of people are always playing and they always want to be playing. And yeah, what does that end up looking looking like? Coming from Sega? I don't know. It's it's like tough to say. I mean, to me, it feels like they don't even necessarily know themselves right now. I think they have an idea. But you can't just go make a Final Fantasy fourteen. You can't. You can't like become that game by being exactly one of those that already exist. You need to start forging your own path a little bit at least. I think you do, because you know what I mean, maybe maybe things have changed, but not like I imagine, uh, trying to do a World of Warcraft killer today or like, you know, a Final Fantasy fourteen alike today, I would imagine would work a lot like it did when people were trying to do World Warcraft Killers years ago. But maybe the maybe things have changed a little bit. We do see like something something like New World come along, and now everyone jumps to that and gives it a chance because maybe there's like a huge cohort of players now who are willing to give the next big thing a chance. Now. I think that's specific to MMOs right now, because there is just there're people who are MMO players, and there's a lot of them, and they know that's what they like, and they sort of have moved pat Most of them have moved past only wanting to play the World of Warcraft and they want to try the new thing now. I don't know if Sega is going to be doing an MMO. I don't know if that's necessarily what they mean by a super game, but it's definitely some It's still going to have to incorporate a lot of MMO elements. For it to sort of to be the thing that want like a person can play forever. That's the thing that I think is the most key here. It's like it's got to have a lot of online social hooks, and yeah, you know a billion dollars Do you need to invest a billion dollars in that? To me, I would not. I would probably take my time, start a little bit smaller than that, and then save a lot of that billion. Save a lot of that billion for the first big update when you have to fix everything that you failed at the first time. That's what I would do. But we'll see from feature creep. Can you confirm the Chrono Cross remaster? Does it run it more than twelve frames per second? That's the kind of that's the thing that I think it was kind of like an open secret, right because that showed up. Wasn't that in the Nvidia League? I thought that was the Indian Nvidia League and they kind of called it Chronocross remake a little bit, But yeah, I'm pretty sure that that sounds like something that they would do. You know that a lot of these companies are relying on remasters and remakes right now, and square Enix is going to be looking to you know, like the Square Nix is already shown a willingness to go back and look at their games and say, Okay, does this get the full remake treatment, does this get like somewhere in between? Does it just get a remaster? Does it just get a rerelease on mobile and we sell it for thirty dollars? Again, the Square Knicks is willing to do this with a lot of its games. It is beginning to sort of get to a point where, Okay, we've moved through the primary tier list of games that we really need to get back out there. Now, where can we look for other games? Now? Of course we haven't seen the remake of Final Fantasy six, but that's the kind of thing where like I think you save that until you know what you're gonna do with it, until you get through Final Fantasy seven remake, and then do you begin doing the same thing with Final Fantasy six. I don't know, but I think that's something that they're saving, Like they're considering that, but then you know, beyond that, like what's just beyond that? The same thing with Chrono trigger, like Chrono triggers like in its own thing, where like that's going to require a lot more thought than a Chronocross remaster, which you could pretty much just spruce up and rerelease and introduce it to a massive audience of RPG fans who mostly have not played that game. I remember it. I remember it coming out being very like having a huge pop off right when it came out, and a lot of people were really caring about it and mostly talking about the music. But then I'm saying the game was pretty good, and then no one ever talked about it again for years. It's kind of how it was, and everyone everyone went right back to talking about Chrono Trigger. That's I mean that said that being the history, that just means that there is a good chance that you could reintroduce this to a new audience. And and yeah, it sounds right, Yeah, Chrono Trigger Dyes is like, yeah, that's something that was a great remaster, but they did years ago, and they'll probably consider something like that again. But also they could just remake that game. I mean, I don't know why you would remake it, but you make it because you could sell it for seventy dollars, right, That's why you make something like that. So we'll see, all right, where are we at from Johnny is no Taco. Will we ever see a new ape Escape game? Probably not. I think you might see the ape Escape spiritual successor at some point soon. But like that's just it requires a certain it requires Sony to say, yeah, we want to go back and and and you know, mind that nostalgia instead of doing something else. And that something else for them right now is trying to build a globally appealing game in the style that they have succeeded in recently. So and that's not going to be an ape Like. We're not going to get the third person behind the back, you know, you know, over the shoulder ape Escape, you know, one take cinematic, sad dad game like they're not gonna make They're not gonna turn it Escape into that. They're gonna keep it what it is if they were going to do it, And not to say that that's all Sony can do. Obviously they have the capability to do more. It's just they spend a lot of money on the on their games, and they spend a lot of money because they want to stand out and they want they want their games to be they want their games to be events to the point where they could start they could get to a point where they could sell all of their games at sixty to seven dollars for years, just like Nintendo does. That's I think it's the real primary goal of Sony right now is hey, we're we've proven we can kind of do that with with Miles Morales being a game that's continues to have legs and probably will have legs throughout this generation, and we want people to think of our games on that level. Every time we release something, if the PlayStation Studios logo pops up, we want you to be happy you just spent seventy dollars to get that. Ape Escape is the kind of thing where, you know, it kind of feels like it kind of feels like Crash Bandicoot a little bit, right. People were happy to go back to the Crash Bandicoot trilogy. But then Crash Bandicoot four comes out and gets good reviews and sort of, you know, fades away pretty quickly, and Sony want Sony wants to invest in games that aren't going to fade away quickly. That's the one thing it definitely does not want, and that you know, that helps keep these games, it helps make get that return on investment. But it also helps build that excitement for the brand overall. And that's that's kind of where where you see it why Sony's making the decisions it's making with de emphasizing investment in sort of quirky Japanese games and increasing investment and stuff that might have that sort of you know, the mcuification of the PlayStation studios, you know, brand and design and and sort of like their their design goals. Basically from vet vetterly, Hey, Grubsy, do you know what's going on with the cuphead DLC? And a second quick question, When a game like GTA San Andreas launches on game Pass and it is barely functional, is Microsoft able to break slash cancel their original deal with rock Star. I'm sure there are stipulations in there for things not meeting a certain threshold more more more than likely. What happens is is it's like that probably triggers a renegotiation, something we talked about a few weeks ago, where hey, things like this did not meet the bare minimum that we set out in our negotiations. Uh, let's get back to the table. Let's renegotiate what's happening here. We need to be everyone needs to be made whole here and everyone needs to respect each other as business partners, and this was not good enough. Maybe we need to sit down and talk about where it needs to get to and what we need to do about what's already been paid out or whatever. Maybe that's all there, Like that's let's me speculating more more than likely, though, I would say even if all that stuff is in the contract, even if there are clauses to to sit down renegotiate, more likely than not you chalk this up as the price of doing business. If you're Microsoft, this is just the cost of doing business. Sometimes you're gonna get a bum deal and you need to just take it on the chin and try to be a little smarter about it next time. Just treat it as a lesson and not sort of going there and say, hey, you don't want to be hostile to Rockstar and not really. Uh, you know, we've seen that happen once recently with Sony and and CD Project red with Cyberpunk, where Sony treated a CD project read pretty hostile hostily. But I think the reason that Sony felt good about doing that is CD Project right had the co marketing deal with Microsoft. Sony was like, Hey, we got plenty of other stuff happening right now. We're making a ton of money still from Fortnite in war Zone and all these other games, Apex legends. Uh, let's just let's pull the plug on this one, say, like take a stand, kind of smack this studio around a little bit that is working with our partner instead. And uh and yeah, but Rockstar is sort of a different deal. Where is sant Andrea's really worth spoiling a relationship that could result in you losing out on the chain of getting GTA six co marketing or whatever. Probably not so most likely they're probably just gonna chuck this up as the cost of doing business. If it happens again, Like if it comes to repeated thing, these companies will be like less more willing to to do exactly what you're talking about and lay down the law. It's just in this one case, they'll probably let it slide. From twins, what's the latest music album you bought? I haven't bought music in a long time. I'm I kind of I like music when I'm listening to it, and I and but I try not to engage with it too much on like, uh, I don't I don't dedicate too much of my brain to purchasing in cataloging music, I spend a lot of time thinking about video games, and I you know, that's become sort of the way my brain works is if I do if I begin doing that, I begin thinking about, like, how can I treat this as something that's like a profession, a way to make money, a way to U speak authoritatively on the subject. And I want to. I just want to keep music as a hobby I could just enjoy without thinking. My I not bring it up every episode, but my ADHD makes like me very analytical about everything. I can't help, but like, my brain just brings in everything and it has to process everything and begin like thinking about it in a way that's analytical, and uh that not that that like has really hurt my enjoyment of games too much. But it hasn't because I enjoy that. I enjoy doing that, but it requires a lot of brain processing power. Music I like to just turn on, let it happen, let it wash over me. And when I turn it off, I'm I don't remember the name of the song. I probably don't even remember who sung it. I just know that I enjoyed it or didn't enjoy it, and I'm happy to keep it at that level. It's uh, definitely about It's definitely the burners on the stove, right, I've got on the front burner. I've got video games in terms in terms of like my like, you know, my engagement with with art. Got games on the front burner. I got kind of movies on the back burner, kind of getting pushed off a little bit more recently in recent years. And then off the stove now is music and stuff. Yeah, even like fiction, like fiction novels mostly pushed off, Like I don't have a lot of time for fiction these days. But yeah, and I'm happy with it that way. I'm happy to treat it that way. Also, it's like I've never had a real satisfying conversation with people about music because it's so subjective that I don't like if I even if I were to analyze it and spend time doing that, like, what would I be using that for it? I'd like try to prove to someone that my taste in music is better. Like obviously that's a horrible like that's a terrible way to treat something like, Oh, I'm gonna go win an argument about music, but like that's kind of the point. It's like, I don't want to do that, so and I know that a lot of that's I know that's I feel like I'm being like a confrontational people who like do do that with music, or like engage with music on that level. I know that's what most people don't do, but that's just the what I would end up doing, so I try to avoid it. From Kayser scout. After the success of Commanded Conquer Remastered games, have you heard anything about a new main entry in the series. I've just heard that they were very happy with it and they are definitely considering like what they can do with the series. But I haven't heard any plans, definitive plans for what to do next. I can look into it a little bit, but I think chances are if something were to happen, it's going to take a little bit of time. You know, Age Vampires four is probably sure serving as like a pretty good measuring stick for what is possible, so maybe EA will look to that. But also there's a good chance that maybe Age Vampires for satiates that audience a little bit, and now people will be like, oh, Command of Conquer new Command of Conquer that plays like old Command of Conquers. It's just like modernized and streamlined. Do I need that after having Age Empires for Like, I know they're not exactly the same, but you know, there's just these are the kinds of things that they might be thinking about. So I don't I do know they're happy with it. Don't know if that's going to turn into a new game. Indeed, Cody Brown says, any chance Valve comes back with more games like Portal three now that they have hardware like the Steam Deck, that I mean, I do wonder like what the what the hardware will sort of encourage from the software side of things. Not that there's a software side of Valve, it's just stored of all Valve. But you can definitely see a reason why Valve people Valve might be like, hey, if we have software built specifically for the hardware, Like, wouldn't that help the hardware in the long line? It helps it, Like that's it's always worked that way on the console side of things, So should we should we be pursuing that? And you could see them like they could be able Oh yeah, maybe we should. But also I think what Valve believes about Steam and the PC platform is most new ideas present themselves first on PC and really first on Steam. Now it's not true, but like, like I think back to like Minecraft. Minecraft wasn't on Steam, but it introduced this idea of early access, and then Steam adopted that, and now so many new like survival games after that, like have become so big on Steam, and they almost act like, if you want to be on the cutting edge of gameplay ideas, you kind of like just go play some early acts of stuff on Steam and you can like be there day one. And I think they think that is sort of their killer application, is having these having access to prototype ideas that are going to turn into the next big thing, and as those games going to one point er becoming some of the biggest games in the world, Like you know, I can try to remember. I think it was Chris Kohler at Wired wrote one time about how really every platform should be trying to be the platform where the next Minecraft could happen, and that clearly became Steam where PUBG could happen. And you know, now PUBG spun off. It was it created a gameplay idea that then spun off and happen elsewhere outside of Steam, but definitely like Steam is where that idea could first take off and prove itself, and so like there's just a lot of cool software happening there anyhow, And I think they're like, hey, we do have a lot of exclusives because the PC has so many new ideas happening all the time, that maybe that's what we should capitalize on. And Valve still doesn't have to make software itself, make game software itself. But all that said, I do think you're right that they will probably try to make a few more games themselves to showcase what the Steam Net can do. And really they might just take a queue for a Nintendo and say, hey, here's how you make the most out of the software. This is something that are this hardware, and this is something that Sony does really well now with like its Astrobot team. Here's how you get the most out of this hardware. Here's a cool showcase. And they did that with the Valve, with their Valve Index, or with the when it was the Vibe, with all the VR stuff that they made, like here's here's how you get the most out of VR. So they have a legacy of doing that, and they'll probably do that here. Whether that turns into a more robust software release schedule from Valve, I don't know. Probably not. All right, let's keep going from Slam Nick Awsome, who's the Brian Stills of video games? It's Dunkey. It's definitely Dunkey the Dug And do have you checked out the Xbox Museum they launched for the twentieth anniversary? If so, what was your most played game? I did check it out, and my most played game was, and this is not a good thing, was Psychonauts too, because I have been trying to I try to get Past a Boss so many times before the game would crash on me because my broken Xbox that I played it over and over probably like fifteen times, just thinking like, hey, maybe this will fix it. Maybe this thing I'm doing will fix it, and I let's go back and play it. Okay, crashed, all right, let's try so let's clear out the mac address. All right, Maybe that fixed it now? So I play like I've played that quite a lot, like way more than it probably takes to beat the game. Also, I mostly play on PC, so that's kind of a thing there. Too. Let's see from pudge our three four three industries going to respond to Halo fans grubbling about micro transactions and customization and infinite or are they going to fall back on the game's success to justify the lack of free armor customization options. I mean they'll they'll respond, I mean, yeah, the hard part is getting people to play the game. Now. The second hard part is making people happy about paying money, right, That's that's the second thing. Like if you get if you get millions of players, you could sort of have a lot of leeway in figuring out what comes next. But eventually you have to make people feel good about spending money. That is a very good, challenging thing to do, but it's also something that people have proved. Like there's a lot of like a lot of research, but there's a lot of example out there of how to make people feel good about spending money on a free to play game. And they'll have to just get there. They will. I think, for the most part, I have some faith that they'll be able to pull that part off, because I mean, they did all this. They they delayed this game a year, They did all this work to try to make it a fun game that people want it we're happy about and okay, you've done that. You release the game. People are really really excited about playing it, and it is successful, as you say, Now, are you going to ruin that by making the conversation almost exclusively about how the developers are greedy or whatever. No, they'll figure it out for me. For me, I just I'm playing the game. I'm enjoying myself and I'm not thinking about the micro transactions too much. I spent some money on the battle pass, you know whatever. For me, like, it's like I'm still kind of at a disconnect where people are talking about how, like, you know, you used to be able to spend sixty dollars to get all this stuff, and it's like, okay, they just gave you the game. It's free. Now you don't have to spend anything. You just get get the game. And now you're talking about how greedy they are. I get it, though, It's still it is. The micro transactions are bad. The progression is bad, and people should be able to say that. And I think that they're right to call it out, and I think that's how you get them to change. And I do think that they will respond to this. It would be really odd if this team that had if this team, the wider Xbox team has been so good about responding to criticism, if this was the thing where they just took a hardline stand and said, no, this is what it is. Deal with it. Things are probably the micro transactions are probably gonna rain pretty expensive, but they just got to find better ways of presenting it, better ways of engaging that. With the progression from Kane High Winds zero nine, which console had the best launch line up? In your opinion? I can never decide between the GameCube with throwny Hawk, pro Skater three, Rogue Leader, monkey Ball and the Dreamcats with Soul Caliber, Powerstone, House of the Dead and Blitz. I mean definitely of those, I really like GameCube. I guess Streamcast Day one was great too. It really was soul calibers. I mean playing that Day one it felt like such a change, like it felt like such a new generation. It felt like games were really coming into their own, especially in three D and uh playing that at a friend's house NonStop and then yeah that was that was That was huge. Those both are really good examples. I do feel like, didn't the PS five have a pretty good launch A. PS five had a pretty good lunch too. I'm like, I'm gonna struggle to remember exact examples of what came out, because that's not how my brain works. But overall, I remember being pretty happy with PS five and the like the whole PS five's like launch window, I'm pretty happy. I think the PS five had a really good year. So but but in terms of like that launch, I think PS five was pretty good. And then but then yeah, I would probably still give it to the GameCube from Atomic Fuzzbox. Are there any whispers of Saga doing something with the Skies of Arcadia franchise? Happy Thanksgiving to the grub family. Thank you. I appreciate that. I feel like all the rumblings are coming from the fans side, where everyone's like, how are you not doing something with Skys of Arcadia right now? I think if they announced a Skis of Arcadia, would it be the second one? Two? They announced the new Skys of Arcadia and it looked like a modern game. If it looked like as you know, as good as like you know, anything else coming out of Sego or Capcom or whatever right now, they they they would be a massive sort of announcement. I think if they showed that at E three at like Nintendo's press conference, people would go wild for it and it would be a huge hit. In my As long as it maintained that sort of fun game play and was a decent game when it came out, it would probably be a pretty massive hit. So I but I also think that about like if they announced if Nintendo were to do a Mother four right right now and just released it, I think that would be a massive million, multimillion seller as well. I just think those games are in a spot where there that audience is bigger than ever. Same thing like with with MMOs, where there's just an audience right now that is craving this stuff, and if you meet a certain threshold of quality, they will be rewarded for coming out. But does that mean Sega is hearing this is willing to act on it. I don't know. I don't know from future creep, is there any chance Armored Core comes back? Does Sega still own it? I don't. I don't know if like what Sega's relationship to it is is exactly right now. I'd have to look into that. But Armored Core is one of those ones that always gets whispered as as one as they want to bring it back, but it you know, maybe it's probably just not worth it, or it hasn't been worth it. Whether or not that will ever change, I don't know. From within the Reese will you be pursuing legal action and gets Backlard for his use of your likeness and the giant pomp premium QVC advertisement. Absolutely, I have lawyers working on it right now. If people haven't seen it, he's wearing a black, curly haired wig and it's a very offensive. It's very offensive. I don't know what else to say about. I've been I've been advised to say nothing else and to answer no further questions about this, I'll just say very offensive from Sylvius. With Square Nicks going heavy on the remakes, remasters ports, what do we have to do to get a final Fantasy Theater rhythm on switch? What do they released a like one of those on Switch? Right? But it was the Kingdom Hearts one right, and it's basically the same game, but just with Kingdom Hearts music. I don't know that that'll probably happen, like they'll probably just get to that eventually. Yeah, I would, I would say just hold out, hold out for a little bit longer. It'll probably happen. Happen. Yeah, from M D h X twenty twenty two, What has the Xbox got for the first half other than Stalker? Should we anticipate any twenty twenty two surprise releases for Xbox in the Game Awards? So I Stalker two is the big one. I think there's a chance that that Josh Sawyer game comes out in the first half of next year. Honestly, I think it's probably the second half in terms of exclusives, especially coming out of Xbox Game Studios. I don't expect much from Xbox in the first half of next year. I think what we can't expect is Forts and Motorsport eight next fall. Maybe that even gets pushed out a little bit, I don't know, and then and then Starfield in November. So you know, those are like the big games they have next year. There's not a lot happening. They're gonna have to rely again on game paths to pick up a lot of that slack. Maybe there's some other stuff that moves up early, but most of their big games that we've heard about already, Perfect Dark avowed hell Blate two. All all those things were still aiming for twenty twenty three. Like they're still in they're still pushing those games and trying to get them out, but there they expected those in twenty twenty three. Maybe some miracle happens one of those moves up. That feels unlikely in this day and age. So then what can they do in the first half of next year. Well, they could spend a lot of their budget that we've talked about. They have billions of dollars earmarked for game Pass. They could spend a lot of that to get some day one releases on game Pass, or you know, maybe you work really hard and try to get like a big game that came out and get it on game Pass like two or three months after it releases or something like that. Trying to think, like the one that comes to mind is elden Ring, but that's probably not going to happen. They've tried really hard to get a partnership with from Software and Bandai, Bandai Napco about that and it has never They've they've been rebuffed multiple times. So to me, it feels like that means it would be pretty hard to make that deal. On the other end, happen as well with getting it on game Pass. So but they have lots of money to spend. It's the point here, and so they will probably throw a lot of that money around here pretty soon. And the thing with those deals is you're like, you know, so, what is happening with that money, like, what's up for what's up for a possibility to come to game past day one. The thing with those deals, and I think we've we've mentioned this before, is they get finalized very close to release. With Outriders and MLB the Show, all that stuff happened in the last few weeks before they came out. In terms of coming to game pass develop I think publishers just want to wait and to see what the market looks like. They want to have all the data in hand, and then once they know kind of what to expect from a game's release, like right before it comes out, they'll hear Microsoft out and say, okay, that deal sounds pretty fair, and then they'll sign it. Then before then, it's all just kind of preliminary talks and probing and saying, okay, that sounds interesting, but we are going to wait for more data and so yeah, so if they do throw that money around. It'll probably all come together right before a major game comes out or something like that. We'll have to wait to find out. So so yeah, but again, billions of dollars. They we will probably find someone who is willing, who's going to be willing to take some of that money right from future creep. I don't like open world games, GTA, far cry, et cetera. Do you think I would like Halo Infinite? Do you consider I know I got I got in trouble for this with Sony fan boys, But do you consider Zelda to be like an open world like not necessarily like even Breath of the Wild like, but like like Zelda one? Do you think Zelda one is like an open world game or metro like the Metro Exodus was that the most recent one? Is that like an open world game? So it feels open world, but it always tells you where to go to progress the story. And the only reason you would peel off from that is you find something that's interesting, or you see a guy that has a weapon, like a named weapon, and you want to go up and grab that. I've played it. I played the first four missions and then a little bit beyond that. But I'll just talk about what I could talk about from the preview embargo, and I think Gersman did a video about this with bbacco Art. It was pretty good. They did a good job covering it. Go watch that. But in my opinion, if if you just go for the primary objective and you only ever stop because you find something that's interesting, you'll I think you'll, I think you for the most part, you'll be like, yeah, this feels open, but I am always moving forward in a linear way, and I'm I'm fine with that. Like, and then once you usually once you get to those those goalposts of like, hey, this is where we told you to go, it turns into a dungeon that is then also pretty linear and and it's a bunch of more about like funneling, funneling you through cool encounters with enemies in traditional Halo style. I've been I've been impressed with that stuff. So that's been that's been like, especially because you, like you look at it from the outside, You're like, oh, that tower looks like just another outpost and I'm going to go in there, clear it out and be done. And then you find out, oh, I can go underground, and now I'm going through or I'm not like with the tower, you actually move up. You're like, I'm going up level after level and it's actually much denser than I expected it to be and still feels it doesn't at that point, it doesn't feel open and more, it just feels like a linear dungeon. I think it's gonna be a good It's gonna do a good job of offering both that to certain kind of players. I think traditional Halo fans are gonna come in and be pretty happy with this, and then people who like to explore, who like to go off the beaten path, are gonna be rewarded for doing so. But you definitely don't have to. For me, I really like that part and the part you know, again, I can only talk about certain areas, so I keep using the same example. But I'll use this example again. I like it because it really punctuates that Halo gameplay, because you get a lot of build up, a lot of anticipation when you start, when you go out and you're in the open world and it's quiet and there's nothing happening for a couple of seconds, for a couple of minutes, maybe especially as you're trying to find something cool, and then on the horizon you see a giant outpost and you're like, I'm gonna move closer to it. Maybe I'll skirt past it. I was actually gonna go past. I see something down there. I want to go check out. And then all of a sudden and the like the brute who runs that outpost begins calling you out, like over a loudspeaker, and it's like, you know, the demon is coming. Put up the defenses. And then you see the outposts begin to prepare, like literally prepare its defenses for your coming. And in one of the videos I posted on Twitter, like you see the gates rise up and a wasp comes overhead. I think it's called a wasp. People are yelling at me for not knowing the exact names, like the proper nouns for all these things. I think it's a wasp. I called it a helicopter. Uh. And it flies overhead and brings in like even more like high powered enemies for you to take out, and the music begins to swell and like all the little grunts outside are screaming about you coming, and it just feels like this anti anticipation is building up and building up and building up and then you you basically you pop that bubble by beginning firing and just it turns into a Halo And that's awesome. That's like an awesome way to end that for that build up to end with you playing Halo combat. It's it's it's choice. It's awesome. I'm super into it that that's what works for me. I do think if you want to just keep going forward and keep going to the big yellow marker that says this is where you need to go and make the story go forward, you're also going to have a pretty good time. Okay, helicopter, helicopter, I said, I said, he'll, he'll a coopter whatever whatever from m roorig What are your favorite roadside attractions slash tourist traps. I don't know. When I moved here from from Ohio, I went through Kansas and there was nothing and I went through uh yeah, there was just the one long way. I don't know. I like we went a few years ago before we had two kids. I had one kid. We went up to Mount Rushmore and mostly we didn't stop on anything like weird roadside attractions, but there was like cool stuff up there to explore, and I like that. I guess Mount Rushimore does not count as a roadside attraction. It accounts as the attraction itself. But I don't know. I like that. Oh oh, I okay, Wall Drug. Wall Drug is my favorite. Uh. I guess most of this is pretty world famous now, but Wall Drug is a giant drug store, giant pharmacy that turned into a massive, like shopping complex. But it still feels like a little shop. But it's like eight shops connected together now. And there's a restaurant and it's I don't know, and there's like an arcade and that's where I first saw Cruise and Blast in person. That that was actually pretty cool. I really like that. So I'm glad I had an answer to next somebody. I know for sure I've been to something that I really liked, and that was it. Wall Drug is fantastic. Uh from ueg Any Internal perspective from EA on the Battlefield twenty forty two response from the public. I haven't asked about this yet. I this is something I think we'll come back next week. Let's sit down, we'll talk about Battlefield twenty forty two. Just want to like we'll just talk about like how they're feeling about it, what where they're going to go with it. In general, they've been here before, right, They've been here before with Battlefield. Battlefield four was in a much hotter mess than this when it launched, and they've been through the Ringer and they brought it on the other side. Of course, everyone involved wants to get to a point where they aren't ever in this situation again. But also people, no one involved is actually surprised that they're here as far as I'm aware. They're just frustrated and they didn't want to be, but they are, and they'll try to get through it again. And they're hoping to have a good game soon, Like they're hoping to have a game that people are really happy to be playing, you know, in a couple of months after a few updates. The problem there is really rough timing where you are launching against called Due Vanguard, which has its own issues, but also war Zone is going to get a update and maybe that's not maybe that won't have issues. And then you have Halo Infinite, which, for the most part, having a really stellar multiplayer launch, is free to play compared to this seventy dollars you know, multiplayer only military shooter it is, it's gonna like it's gonna be a challenge, just because the distraction here is there's so many distractions pulling people away that even if Battlefield twenty forty two does improve, maybe it'll never reach quite the heights that they were hoping it would reach. It's uh and I want to I'm like, I wonder what the progression in Battlefield twenty forty two is, like, like compared to Halo. I bet it's significantly better, but does that This is the point, Like, getting those players up front is the hard part, and one way to make that easier it is to make your game free to play. But even if Halo was free to play and disappointing, people would be bouncing off of it, people's time is still really valuable. Battlefield twenty forty two has the double barrier of people are bouncing off of it because you know, technical reasons and because the fun is just a it's a little bit off kilter in terms of finding the fun. And then also it's seventy dollars. I believe it's seventy dollars, right, maybe it's sixty, but either way, it's a lot of money, especially when you have other options that are free to play. I don't. I'm for me, I said from the beginning, they should have made that game free to play, or at least in EA Access free right away. But or yeah, I guess what they call it EA play now whatever. That game is out of time. It's not like out of time in terms of like, oh, it's time is up, but it is out of its place in time where it made sense releasing a premium multiplayer only shooter at in this time, in this day and age is like we are four years after the release of Fortnite Battle Royale free to play, right, It's just the lessons are out there to have been learned. EA ignored them, said we're gonna keep making Battlefield games the way we've mostly made them, and I don't know. To me, it just doesn't seem like something that makes a lot of sense. But they will try to pull it out of the fire. We'll see what they're able to do, and we'll come back next week. I'll try to bring some info about Battlefield next week and how they're feeling about it. From Ida Klando. Do you think do you think the Steam deck will improve the current multi account game sharing systems on Steam. I think that they will. Yes, I think it's going to improve all of the the user side stuff because they're gonna want to simplify it. That's one of the reasons the switch works so well is you pick it up and it's very easy to begin playing a game, no matter who you are, you don't have to think about it too much. That means there's not a lot of options, there's not a ton of themes, there's no user created content marketplace or anything like that. There's no card system, but it's you begin, you pick it up, you start playing a game. It's very easy. It turns out because of that, people spend a lot of money buying a lot of games on the Switch. It's that those two things go hand in hand. Valve understands this and whether or not they're able to execute on simplifying a system and streamline in it. So it is very easy for multiple people to pick it up and begin using their stuff or sharing games across their accounts. We'll see. But you know, honestly, like for me, like you know, as someone who I guess power for power users, I think Steam's game sharing stuff is way better than anyone else's right, you can like share your library with up to five other people and it's it's built right in. It's not like some work around from the outside where you know, you sign up that you make this this system your main system so that the other people can play your games on there. No, like you could just share it with people anywhere in the world. Asn't as long as you're not playing the game at the same time, they can use those games. So I like that. I'll be I'll be fine with it. But for the more average user that they will have to simplify stuff a little bit. How about a Sega Neptune. Yeah, it's gonna be just like the Sega Neptune. That's what I was trying to say, Thank you, doctor m to the juh from Future Creep. Do you think rock Star will go through the effort to actually fix the GTA Definitive Edition. They will make an effort, they'll do something, but to me bringing back the original PC versions, and I think they're gonna wash their hands of this pretty quickly. I think they're gonna just say, well, we messed that up all right, back to making money from our GTA online. I don't think they're that these games will ever be in the state where people where everyone's super happy with them. They will probably they'll fix many of the bugs. They'll do that much at least, like your car will probably stop pancaking at some point. All right, I thought there was good. I thought I saw a question for it earlier. But I'll just I'll just do We're gonna do a check in on so if people don't know, Jeff Backlar's hanging out with his family today and he said on Bombcasters yesterday he was trying to figure out when he could start drinking. We're gonna do a quick check in. We've we've hooked him up to uh several monitoring devices. Uh, it's really balky. He looks really awkward. Lots of batteries all over his body to run this equipment. But we're gonna check in on him and see where he's at in terms of his drinking. Uh. Oh okay, he's feeling tipsy. Everybody he's feeling tipsy right now, so happy Thanksgiving to him. We'll see if he's gonna get to LIT. I'm I'm I'm pulling for him. I think he'll be able to get to LIT before Uh, let's see it's it's twelve eighteen right in Eastern time. Right now. I think by two two pm he's gonna be able to get to LIT and I'm pulling for him. Thank you, Backlar Meter a buck Lars drunkometer. Maybe we'll check in on you one more time before the show's over. All right, good luck to him hanging out with his family for Thanksgiving. All right, let's keep going, Let's keep moving on from Windmills. Dear mister snacks, what's for Thanksgiving? Yeah, I'm a big thing fan of Thanksgiving. I like to make all the food because I don't want to put that on my wife, because who is less enthused about Thanksgiving based foods? Uh? So I'll be making a turkey and I'm I'll probably have to think about preppering for that today at some point I will. Stuffing is my favorite, and then you know, mashed potatoes, uh, corn, I don't know. There's definitely rolls, lots of different roles, Crescent rolls uh, the flaky layered rolls uh, and a lot of this stuff. I like the cheap versions, like I like instant stuff. Instant stuff. It's like stovetop stuffing and instant mashed potatoes. It's just what I grew up on. It's what I like. It's uh, you know, I come to Thanksgiving for the coziness. That's what's cozy to me. I'm not that I would dislike anything like made from scrush scratch or fresh or anything like that. Of course that stuff's good too. It's just what I come to Thanksgiving for. Is you know that that feeling I had as a kid, And that's you know, so I'll have the stuff I ate as a kid. But yeah, a lot of like very uh, a lot of very the staples is what I'll end up with. And then my wife will make a few other things. She usually makes a groom being cast roll and stuff like that. And I'll make the scalped scalped potatoes. Is that the cheesy ones? Yeah, potato all grotten whatever, I don't know, whatever, the cheesy potatoes. I like those a lot too, all Right. From the Unseen Shadow will be the next PlayStation game to be announced for PC ghost Ghost of Sushima. Ghost of Sushima might be a bit too recent, especially with the director's cut, because the one the thing they'll probably end up moving to PC, right, will be the director's cut. They probably give that a little bit extra time. It would be because it would be a break from their current strategy of waiting like three years if they did Ghost of Sushima this like in twenty twenty two. So I'm trying to think, like to me, I think they'd do Marvel's Spider Man next, maybe trying to think of what maybe, I mean, when did the Last of Us Part two come out? Was that twenty nineteen? I've lost all track at time. It wasn't twenty eighteen. That was yeah, sou And they've said God of War is coming, right, so yeah, so God of War and then after that maybe so maybe we get the Last of Us part two or Marvel spider Man. Marvel spider Man was was twenty eighteen, So that's why I think it's probably spider Man. But yeah, Google says obviously blood Born. Blood Born continues to be one where they need to I think get help from From to sort of unlock the keys of the code there and From is busy, so if they can with eldermen come out coming out, maybe older maybe From can spend some time on that. Maybe it is coming next year, but I don't know. I'm trying not to get people's hope, but hopes up for that on PC anytime soon. I would like for that to happen, and we can all be just be surprised when it does if it does. From Tolkodo, why has it become common for game to game directors to leave high profile projects in the middle of development Allah Dragon Age. I mean, maybe we just hear about it more. But also I think I think a big part of it right now is if you encounter a sort of any pushback, any sort of creative differences, any sort of like you know, you know, like corporate politics or something like that. Right now, a director at a game company has a million choices, and those choices include going to any other publisher and probably getting paid even more to leave. Or there's so much capital out there, so much cheap capital, so much willingness to invest in new studios, that if you're a proving game director, if you are someone who was directing Dragon Age four, you can go out and start your own studio right now, get a lot of money, very cheap. And yeah, that's probably what's happening in a lot of these cases. And I'm trying to think there was like that. This is especially true in places like Montreal, but also in Texas, also in Edmonton. There's just so much money going into these places right now, and that that money is it's multifaceted. It is it is going to studios like senior producers and senior directors who have experience running games. They're getting money to start their own studios. But that money is also this is why we hear about Ubisoft like raising how much it's paining artists and all these other senior developers, because they need to spend this money to keep that talent, and talent is at such a premium right now that that, yeah, they have to spend that extra money. And even if they do spend that extra money, there's no guarantee that they'll be able to keep that talent because that talent likely could leave get more money elsewhere. I think a lot of it it's just pretty much as simple as that. It's just sort of the market is so tight in terms of employees that these publishers are going to continue losing key developers and even the most key developers, people who are overseeing entire projects from complex nobody. Do you think that Battlefield twenty forty two delay was supposed to be longer. But after your rumor caused a two million dollars stock fluctuation, that EA panicked and only gave Dice another month instead. No, that was the plan. As much as I want to have that power, I don't want that power. As much as I want that power that they don't react too much to what I've done. I get it. You're saying, the two billion dollar stock fluctuation is scary. Maybe they pulled back on the you know, on the what's the thing when you have the horse in front of you and you have the ropes, the horse ropes, they pulled back on the horse ropes a little bit, like, uh, we got to freak out here because the two billion dollar fluctuation. No, my understanding is it was always about this long. It was it was always going to be a month delay or so. I'm sure everyone involved wanted to delay it longer. But they also they knew, like they understand, what's not surprised to them that the like if they knew if they were going to delay it like beyond that that there would have been a stock fluctuation, they didn't mean need me to sort of like suggested delay, and then people take that as oh, there's gonna be a delay into next year. To understand that if it was delayed the next year, there would be a reprogressions on the stock price. They understand that they're smart people. That's why they only delayed it a month. That's the real reason. They fully understood they needed to get it out this holiday to avoid uh, you know, the big backlash there. I still think it's their stocks is probably gonna take a hit just because the game is probably not gonna sell as well. But whatever. From BWO thoughts on epics purchase of Harmonics, is that the final nail on the coffin coffin for rhythm gaming with plastic instruments. Probably, I mean the fine I mean, things will always come back around. It just means Harmonics won't be the one probably driving it next time. Or maybe they will be. Maybe. Maybe they do all their work inside Fortnite creating musical experiences and uh, and they get done with that, and then you know the epics like, hey, look for the next cool thing and that is rock Band five coming back around. Probably not, but but you know, things are cyclical. Maybe that'll happen again. For the most part of my thoughts here are you know, I'm glad that studio has a financial backer now and keep experimenting. I think experimenting with musical experiences in Fortnite is a fine idea. I think it's a fine idea, and I think they'll be able to do some cool stuff. And I'm looking forward to the kinds of musical toys that they create in there, because that's what they are best at, and now they get to do that and one of the biggest games in the world with a ton of players and you know, an audience that is willing to engage in creative things. And so yeah, I think this is for the most part, it's good news from Johnny mac Any news on Dragon Age. Saw a creative director director left and it's seeming like another mess. Yeah, I mean, listen that that game is probably gonna come out and be fine. They know they need to make a really good game, and even with a creative director leaving. I mean, it's it's never ideal, but it's also something that everyone understands could happen right now. Again, for all the reasons I just said, this is another one. I'll ask around about Dragon Age. Maybe maybe we'll come back next week talk about Battlefield, talk about Dragon Age just in general, we'll say, like, what the what the developers thinking, what the publishers are thinking. We'll see if we can get some info there, and we'll talk about it more next week. From our line's up. Gobble gobble, mister grub, what is the Uber eats delivery for you for that Arby's that is a few miles Wait? Why is the Uber Eats delivery fee for the RBS that is a few miles away? Twelve forty nine? Probably for the same reason that game directors keep leaving, there's just not enough driving talent out there to attract I don't know, honestly, mostly just because it's probably maybe Arby's has to deal with another service. So Arby's is like, okay, yeah, we'll go through YouTube, but we have to. We're like contractually like obligated to charge you extra to have us to be delivered to you and whatever and pass it on to the customer. I don't know. I hope most of that money goes to the driver. I think I feel like if it's a delivery fee though usually doesn't go to the driver. One of the things that always used to drive me insane when I was a driver is delivery fees, Like, they don't pay for my guests. They don't give me any money for that delivery fee. This is just the made up thing that gets them more money. It doesn't like it's way more convenient to not have some of it coming into the store, so to take their order over the phone or online and then have like a driver deliver, Like, that's way more convenient for the for the restaurant. So why the hell is their delivery fee if it's not going to me, it's just to get them more money. And I think that's probably still the case. Like if it's called a tip that legally has to go to the driver, I think they these companies have gotten trouble with that before. But when it's a fee, I don't know, it's usually just the corporations trying to make more money and knowing that people are willing to pay it. Right now from Future Creep, is there any truth to the Battlefield twenty four two originally being a Battle Royale but changed at the last minute, I mean being a battle roy It was always going to be a battlefield game, and they're like new mode that hazard zone I think it's called it was always like battle It was always battle Rail inspired, but they were also inspired taking inspiration from Tarkoff. I don't think nothing can like change at the last minute like that. I guess I don't know what you mean by last minute. I'm sure that they had a Battle Royal mode in development for quite some time, Like that's definitely true. But they they're gonna have all kinds of stuff in development, and the final game is gonna get edited, and stuff's gonna get cut out, Sou's gonna get left behind, those resources will get reallocated, and that's just game development. Like there's nothing I feel like those reports always try to make it sound like development is very linear and very deterministic, where you set out to make one thing and if you don't end up making that exact thing, there was some failure in the process and you had to like go to plan and b and abort abart and that's just I mean, yeah, that's kind of how it feels. But the reality is just software is messy, making games as messy, Designing something creative as messy, and all like all these things are just reaching out in the dark trying to find the fun and h and and really, I mean if you look at it like this way, Like this is the whole point of what is happening at EA with Respawn and Vince Sampella getting promoted, is they want them to spend half of their development time prototyping ideas, trying to pull a bunch of different stuff, trying things that are familiar, like trying to see if this mode works in with this type of gameplay mechanic, and a lot of times that's gonna be that's gonna mean like, hey, let's do a battle Royal mode for this game and see if that works. And they're gonna spend time on that stuff, and then they're gonna end up taking the best of those things, and that's what we'll turn into the final game. And that's how most game development does work already. It's just like Respawn emphasizes that spends a lot of time on that prototyping phase, when other studios are sort of like, hey, we gotta move forward a little bit fast because we gotta start making money on this game, you know, relatively soon. From JAG two oh three, Hey they're Jeff happy Thanksgiving. What do you think we see next? From ID Software? I think we probably see Quake trying to remember exactly what the news with quake was and what if I think, you know, I thought we heard that maybe maybe Machine Games might work on a quake, but Machine Games seems busy with other stuff. So to me, I think we probably get a quake of some sort. They don't want quake to disappear. If they've they've begun like investing in They did that quake, that quake update, quake remaster almost with Nightdive Studios and MVG shout outs to MVG, and so I think that I think that was like part of a process is saying Okay, we are probably gonna do something with quake next, and I think that would be the right move for it. From Mike, Mike Acid, one of the things on your list was what was happening with dangerous driving too anymore news? I forgot to look into that. Thank you for reminding me. I need to put that list up front in front of my eyeballs, because that's one I could probably find out something about if I started looking. My hunch here is that's probably just quietly died. It's probably just quietly went away. But I'm I'm hopeful that's not the case. But that's probably what happened. Again, like that was a studio that was making some real efforts to try to build its own, you know, dangerous Driving brand, and it never really super took off. And you know, there was multiple games, multiple attempts at this. There's Dangerous Driving, there was Dangerous There's Dangerous Golf. There was another one in between that I think and if if they're new business that they would make three fields entertainment. If that wasn't taking off, they could have begun to look around and say, hey, there's a lot of demand for talent out there. Maybe actually may I might go take a job somewhere else, and other people start doing that and maybe the thing the company dissolves. I'm speculating. I'll look into it. We'll try to come back and talk about what's going on with them. Uh speaking to the night of what's going on with system Shock. It's still coming. That's from mister Blarg. That's just just came in. That's still coming. I think we'll probably hear more about that early next year, but it is still in the works. From Future Creep. Any good Black Friday deals to look out for, I think that there uh probably will be I haven't looked too closely. I think you're able to get like one of those series six tcltv's pretty pretty a pretty affordable price. Beyond that, I don't know. I'm looking around a little bit, but mostly I'm trying to shop for my kids because I want to make sure we have plenty for them.
