Can I help you, sir? My god, you greasy mister Marouka help.
Mom's gonna kill you. If she didn't want a car run, she
should have done a better job hiding her keys. Four finger Discount, dude,
Welcome to fourfing are Discount, where this week we joined today by the
one and know, the Tom Liberatory of the Western Boodogs in Australian rules footballer.
It was a hell of a good time. It wasn't dat a very
good time. He's dando on guy, you knew that. But yes,
we were joined by Libert. Yes, Tom Liberatoria, not the liberal for
the nineties, liver of the what we call these liver of the twenty tens,
of the of the twenty twenties, nearly halfway through. He's the Libert
to my son general, and his dad was libert to my generation. Yes,
And what's my generation have to do with I don't know, I don't
know, but basically Tom, they had an invented football. Yeah. Tom
is known to Simpsons fans, particularly in Australia, of course, because we
foll Ozzie rules that he has the Simpsons tattoos, and he has a lot
more than I realized because I thought, I thought he look at Bart Sinson
one somewhere. But he's got the iconic one that everyone knows about is the
You're so greasy playing on that, you know, as he talks about in
the podcast why he got the oh You're so greasy tattoos. But he's got
squeaky voice teen on one arm and Homer on the other arm, and together
they are a mighty force. But that's not all because yeah, I mean,
as Dana said, we were surprised that he we knew he had some
ink, but he's got a lot of Simpsons, inc And for fans of
Talk and Seinfeld, he also has a very special secret tattoo that you will
hear about when we fold in our liberatory content into this episode. But you're
also getting a lot of dandel On guard this time. I love that you
say Libertory. By the way, what I call what you said libertory,
it's libertore libertoree. But no, he was a fantastic guest to have.
We very much enjoy talking him, not just about about a lot of the
dance, but also about various other things going on in his life, from
from football to post football, being a dad, dad, and being a
well son of a footballer as well. So yeah, and I had briefly
something to talk. But basically he said that he's going to get a new
tattoo, and we gave him some suggestions. So I'm interested to see whether
he actually takes one of our suggestions. That'd be pretty cool, that would
be very cool. But that's coming up in just a few moments. The
way this episode is going to be going down is we chatted with Liber about
the episode and just about his sort of career and his love with the Simpsons.
And then following that, you're going to hear guy and I go full
in depth with the review because he was limited with time liber because he's got
his training. The footy season starts what next week, even though when we
caught up with him he was lying on a hotel bed eating fruit. You
know you got to do that? Yes, exactly right, all right,
So thank you guys for tuning into this week. Should I forget support us,
I'm Patreon. Want to get early and ad free access to the show.
You can get already now. My chat with the one and only Michael
Hamphlet from What Culture Wrestling. We reviewed the episode of the Old Man and
the least because that is the only episode of The Simpsons that we were aware
of that includes an actual professional wrestler. And the little tidbit here Brett the
Hitman Heart. Do you know Brett the hit Man Heart. I'm aware of
him. Yes, Okay, see he was on the episode, right,
and it's weird because you're watching this like it can tell us Brett Hart,
but he's not really being Brett Hart and we realized we found out with our
research that he was brought in just to be generic wrestler A and then they
realized, oh, this guy's actually famous. It's like he's the WWF champion.
We should maybe use this. So that's why Brett Hart wasn't being Brett
hart ish. But he still looked like Brett Hart in the episode because I
went back and reanimated him and everything like that. But this is of course,
we're talking about Lart of the Dance today with Tom Libertore. That's gonna
be coming up right now and after that guy and I will be doing our
full in depth b user stay tune for that as well. But thank you
all again for your support and enjoy our chat with Tom Libertore as you join
us. You are as we just described off, laying in eating apple very
hard preseason training at the Bulldogs this year, it seems yeah, definitely.
I can't remember which episode is what I'm trying to think of. When someone's
getting fed fruit in the chair, is that thinking of the robot from Futurama?
Nah, someone's getting please getting is getting fired? Doesn't he homles?
Maybe? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel like house pre
season going anyway? All good? Uh? Yeah, yeah, look good,
all going well? Maybe two weeks ago and we're done into the games
about so yeah, almost finished? Thank good? Is the little man Oscar?
Is he old enough to appreciate that Dad's an AFL player yet sort of?
He sort of understands that I'm going to play football if that makes sense,
or going to do that. He doesn't really know much else, and
I'll play for the Bulldogs. He's sort of been in the club a little
bit, but I sort of the extend it, I guess. Yeah.
Is he too young to be introduced to the world of the Simpsons? Tom
No, never. As soon as he was born, I had to go
pro facing the other way episodes. It's funny when I show my kids now
I feel like I failed as a father because they want to watch the new
ones and not the old ones because it looks shinier and new and HD,
No, the old ones. That's what you've got to be watching. Correct,
Correct? How old are oh? My kids five? And the other
one's three? Okay, yes, stars, still not at all. But
now for our overseas listeners who may not be aware, Tom Here is one
of the stars of the AFL, as he mentioned, players for the Western
Bulldogs. He was part of the twenty sixteen Premiership team. However, his
father is also one of the most iconic Bulldogs players of all time. Much
like my man Guy Here, his father was the one on the legendary Bobby
Davis. So you got that in common. Yeah, Unfortunately that is where
our palts diverged on because you became a champion footballer and I'm here talking about
the Simpsons actor this guy. That's all. It was just you know,
it was just vocal. Never know I might have a very late innings,
comeback and start my AFL career at the age of fifty four. Yeah,
it was always fine, was about sixty, that's right now, not only
your great football obviously, but many Simpsons fans know you as the football who
has the iconic Homer Squeaky Voice Team. Oh my god, you're greasy tattoos.
We might as well kick off with those. When did you get them?
Where'd you get them? Whose idea was it? Tell us all about
it? And was it the first tattoo you ever got? Nah? No,
it was very late in the peace. I got the start of twenty
nine acause I've got my first tattoo, which is a portrait of Cramer from
Swinefeld or more left bum Cheek, which so except for except for my closest
loved ones, yes, the right people, yep, of course. Yeah,
I can't make any cruage now if forgot that one, maybe when I
was like twenty one, twenty thirteen, fourteen, yep, cot of thing.
And then yeah, I got the I think I saw so, I
saw a photo of Krusty Burger symbol and I don't know his name. He's
just called Squeaky Voice Team. I think they have named him, but he's
just known to most fans of Squeaky Voice Team. Yeah, yeah, okay,
so yeah, mister Simpson, what are you doing? Yes, that's
pretty good sort of then like mixed in because of because I'm Italian, we
sort of you know, we got called greedy. So then I yeah,
I just sorted to get home on the other so the matching set, Yeah,
I've got them staying time and yes, just one of his sort of
favorite episodes because yeah, it takes out of time, which is funny.
So Paul Luigi at the end, Yeah terrible. Yeah, that's I was
just gonna say, yeah, yeah, yeah, the voice when he rocks
up and they're all fight with Grace and he brings peaces. What are your
earliest memories of The Simpsons? Can you remember when you like sort of first
saw the show. Yeah, I was like, probably was earlies. My
older brother used to watch it, so yeah, sort of mid maybe like
when I was sort of six seven, two thousand thousand and one, No
two sort of thing. OK, and that's when I was sort of getting
suck into six o'clock Simpsons, six thirties neighbors. Yeah. Then we begged
dad to get Fox eight because we could just watch it every Sunday Sunday Super
Simpsons Weekends. They were the best, weren't they? And Fox eight plus
two so we can watched it again two hours later. Yeah, it was
around and that was like saving and I think around there. So yeah,
how good are the memories are sitting there on that TV six o'clock weekn that's
fighting over the TV because my one and dad wanted to watch the six o'clock
news, but you wanted to watch the Simpsons. Yeah no, there's no
way, no, that never went that far because me and my older brother
and my little sisters was and then mom and dads. So it's three v
too. We'd win. Now, Tom, you've got the you've got the
Simpsons tattoos. You've got the top secret Kramer tattoo on the on the rear
end. We here at the fourthing of Discay Network. Of course you will
do the Simpsons show. We also do a Seinfeld show. If you've got
a South Park tattoo somewhere on your body, mate, we've got the trifecta
here. Sadly no, ye, who else is immortalized on your in ink
on your body there? Mate? Or what else have you got from Simpsons?
You've got more Simpsons? Have you? Uh? Yeah, I've got
hete forgot, I've got the stone cutters on your bath in the spot.
Ye, I've got so crusty Yeah, Oh my good. Yeah, what
the hell was that? Yeah, somewhere there is that the Stone's logo above
her. Yeah, sort of something else. But you've got a rag on
a stick. Oh wow, just the actual rag. That's great. Have
you got the howl fish as well? Holy ship? We got it's just
vapel. I did not realize you had that many. Yes, we're very
sad. Maybe one more Simpsons. No, all done by the same artist
tom Or you're going the various parlors around the way to getting to Ye.
There's one main guy who's probably done about sixty seven of them. To Mickey
G's from my Screaming Studios. There's a couple of ones. There's a couple
of sticking those crusty in the Selma's a sticking post. So you're you're a
Selmer guy. I'm more of a missus K kind of guy. Yeah right,
Yeah, that's probably fair enough. Depends with you after. I guess
I gotta think the missover. I think she's a bit of a dark horse
Margins mate, Ruth Powers. Yeah, Ruth, she's up for something.
Are there any other Simpsons like Simpsons fans in footy? Do you know anything
as much as what you are or you just known in the league is like
the Simpsons guy. No, no, I'm not. I mean I'm I
wouldn't say with fraud, but I'll be like maybe in the top ten percent
fifteen percent, there's blokes probably top ten of the club. But there's like
Jack and Cray, Anthony Scott. Yeah, I just haven't read watching them
for all. I'll be up there for sure, but yeah, just busy
in the way. But no, there's certainly there's certainly Jack McCray and in
John will probably the two with our top pile that I'll play this about other
clubs. But yeah, Johnny, I think I think he's the next man
to get on his quoting abilities. I've never seen. Is there any ever
any Simpsons sledging? Yeah, we throw a few Darryl's out there, throw
that around training for a bit. I guess he throws your own forwards when
they miss, when they shake it from straight in front right, Yeah,
yeah, they can take it professionals. Yeah, Jack pretty quickly will be
the best sledges ever been throwing your way that you can remember, Not not
Simpsons, just best sledge can you remember any Nothing really stands out, it's
all pretty. Yeah, there's a few from the crowd, but no nothing.
I don't know, like maybe early days when was younger, but not
too much. Everyone's pretty that's pretty cares. Yeah, it seems like everyone's
not soft, but it's like everyone's just careful now of what they say in
foot Do you think like one we're all like we're not overly clever. There's
no one who I don't know, everyone's too tired as well these days.
Who going? But I mean Sworny gave me a little bit early on,
like just around around the old man and stuff like that. But yeah,
did you get the standard ship tatoos? Blah blah, all that all that
stuff. Can we talk a bit about the Liberatory dynasty? Tell us a
bit about any motivation, any drive that your father sort of gave you when
you're growing up, both physically and and maybe mentally and in terms of you
wanting to play footy. Was there pressure on from from you or from anyone
even outside the family, not inside. It's like, I think the reason
why I'll pursued it so heavily and how much I enjoyed training and stuff like
that because he was extremely hands off, Like you didn't he didn't push me
at all, like we just had that. We just had fun all the
time. He always encouraged me to play, and he played with me growing
up. But yeah, it wasn't like starting back and to one hundred touches
and you can't eat in that sort of thing. Wasn't that regard or all
that. Son, Well, older brother and mum pushed me pretty hard,
and I got to be older because I was getting good at it. But
no, that's crazy. He just sort of kicked back and just let me
enjoy it. I remember your dad being well every opposition support his favorite Bulldogs
player at the times, like Dougie Hawkens and Tony LIBERTOI like liber that he
was always a favorite. And I remember the memory of watching you guys win
the flag and they kept cutting to him in the crowd. He just seemed
like you're just having the time of his life. It was like it was
great to see him getting to sort of be a part of it as well.
Yeah, for sure, that whole final series. I remember watching we
rewatched the games and seeing his head on TV and he's he's just when he
went fully balled too, So he was like a bulging light in the crowd
that he couldn't avoid it. But no, that was great. Yeah,
it was cool to have him in the rooms. And that's the game as
well. That must have been a real dumb or whammy back in twenty sixteen
as well, by winning the premiership with your old man looking on, but
also breaking what a six decade drought. Yeah, yeah, that was crazy.
Yeah, it's pretty special, especially with the supporters in the suburban and
that kind of stuff. There was those footage of Maine streets and seven was
sort of off Blakes kicking the ball around the square, hotels shut off.
I was just packed with people, just crowdsurfing and stuff like that. And
let's talk about the pubs that you own. Did you own those when you
or your coin when you won the flag or is it after that? No?
No, as well after that? Okay, do you still get a
free parmey? Who mentioned your name there? Yeah, but I'll struggle these
days, so that's only my name. But with with with a lot of
the dance. Look, what are your favorite memories of this episode? Obviously
you got the tattoo, so he said it's one of your favorites. Look,
what are the standout moments for you? I don't know if you remember
how old you guys are. I don't know if you remember those that were
just books offered like kids books. But I had the episodes in those books.
I've got one right next to me here again the episode guys, How
good were they? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, that was pretty much why
that picture of him as his eyes popping out, so like that sort of
started the whole sort of fascination with it all. Yeah, yeah, when
he's when he's talking about that he's from North Kilktown and to put it back
and Willie and goes, you know, there's no angel North. It's just
one of my favorite Homer b plots, just the whole you know, of
course with Grease, you know, you think he's going to be, you
know, financially independent investing. What is it as opposed to saving savings and
wise investments? When he gets beaten up all the Grease boys and they take
the shovel off them as well, that's more shovels we run shove. We're
a similar age, a similar age you and I did you win growing up?
Obviously six PM week nights and things like that, but did you collect
like the Simpsons tasos that used to get in the packets and that kind of
shit. Or were you just a fan of watching it? No? I
was more. Oh yeah briefly, but I was just more. I think
I was watching the More about Us. Yeah. Was there stickers too?
Yeah, there's stickers. I was everything, mate, it was the Simpsons.
Yeah, it's true. That's a dope question. No, I was
either watching Simpsons or out of the backyard places for Yeah, when you stopped
watching it? Was it about season ten? That seems to be the cutoff
for most people. I stop watching it. I've always doing this. I
was upstairs in my well. My brother had the upstairs part. Is the
oldest all cool sluff in his own area, you know, watching the three
hundredth episode. Yeah, the Tony Hawk episode. After that, I was
like, this is rubbish. It might have been after Yeah, it was
around that time and I started going a bit dan Hill for me. I
seen I was said thirteen. Maybe that would have been about thirteen fourteen.
I reckon this year about then. Did you ever see the Simpsons movie though?
When it came out? Yeah, I was. We made more best
mate. We had a camp. We had a countdown because Emson Messenger back
then gotta love it day after school trying to find a girlfriend. Yeah,
but we had a campdown on an Emson messenger for I think a year of
old days. We Yeah, when we got to the got to the final
lot of the dance and it was it wasn't great. I remember just yeah,
walking out going. I guess I liked it because it was the Simpsons,
but I don't think it was that good. Yeah, I felt empty
inside or half well, my child my childhood officially over. Tom would like
to ask about writing if I could give a bit of a stint study and
creative writing an r M I t according to Wikipedia, which never lies to
us. But reading a bit about your background in there, it's like,
look, as someone who spent their twenties reading, you know, Fear and
Loathing in Las Vegas and naked lunch and watching bar flights, like, oh
yep, it scans. This sounds like the kind of stuff that you that
you're into when you're in your twenties. I mean, are you still writing
it all? You're still sort of got a bit of an interested or yeah,
definitely, I just want to do it personally. Mental health these days,
journal most mornings, most nights, sort of thing, but then also
sort of right my own. I just like writting short stories or short little
average poems. But yeah, nothing special, to be honest, but yeah,
I just enjoyed sort of my own and sort of very well being,
which is yeah, it was great and reading as well. So I did.
I did. I did do the course for three years, I reckon,
and I just couldn't. I couldn't, couldn't keep up with the clientele.
And there that how many years do you think you've got left? Like
you'd be what at least another three or four? You reckon? Yeah,
I was thinking of same, and he's like, remember I told you but
episode but now I don't know. Maybe like I've got this year signed up,
but probably too two I'm thinking too minute, Yeah, two to three
on that and then post footage, you've got social work you want to get
into, right, Yeah, yeah, so I'm just about to start.
I'm just about to start a diplombing in youth work. Yeah that's great.
The next few weeks, Yeah, that'll be hopefully yeah, hopefully timent timement
for yeah, retirement and properly proper job. Yeah, what sort of form
would that take? That kind of social work? I mean, what do
you see yourself? How do you see yourself doing it? You see yourself
executing it besides just showing Simpsons episodes to the kids all day. Yeah,
yeah, I'm gonna have to extend. Just remember, don't do what Donnie
don't does. That's all we have to say. Yeah, I'd love to
go on new camping trips. Run Now. I've been doing a bit of
place here and there through the Footy Club so as as a foundation, talking
the new foundation through the Dogs, so they do a lot of work in
the Western Tubers area out the mountain sort of thing with troubled Juice or diversity
and that kind of stuff. So I've done placements through there over the last
of the year and a year or two. So I'll probably just go through
them. Well before we let you go, obviously, we're here to talk
about Loud of the Dance. This one was a leaser episode and when I
was going out and about you. When I was growing up, I hated
least episodes. I thought they were boring. Well she just shut up.
But the other I got, the more I appreciated, and I realized I
was more likely than I actually realized. Do you find that when you watched
those episodes when you're older and you still just not like them because no one
liked them when they were a kid. Really. I watched it again last
night. I was like, I sort of understand, I do know what
you mean, but yeah, I'll still find it a bit a bit hard
to take. Tom's like, this is the Homer episode. I don't know
what you're talking about. Yeah, there was a thing where she was talking
to Alex Yeah, lis Coudro, Yeah, Alex, yeah, yeah.
Yeah. She's like, I don't just want to play like kids, and
you know we can't. I sort of I appreciate that. So we can't
just not bathe for three days or whatever. Yeah, that kind of stuff.
So I did, I did. I can definitely that sort of thing.
I found. I watched the show a bit differently now and now being
a parent, I just seem to appreciate that the kid moments like the parenting
moments a lot more. Do you find that now when you watch episodes like
the Maggie makes three to do it for her and that kind of stuff?
Do you find out when now being a dad that that hits you harder?
Yeah? I don't think I've watched it enough since I've since I've had he's
almost forced. Yeah, yes, probably, Yeah, maybe I'll put it
down to the list. Yes, it's hard to catch up with the episodes
now. It's just because obviously when you got kids that are are always running
around. But yeah, it's just I find I rarely watched The Simpsons unless
I'm doing it for the reviews. Now. It's weird because I used to
watch it so much when I was a kid. It was like three four
times a day. Now just never watch it. Yeah, pretty soon I
think, Yeah, I found I didn't want to. When we play night
games, we pretty much got the whole days to do all. So I've
got after we get up, but no one has to be the ground to
I don't know, five pm or whatever. So really that's good. Yeah,
I started slowly like chipping away back at Sinton, so as in just
because that's going to do. Really, you can't go out and exercise or
a few beers, never just kick back and fine, that might be the
project and we can reconvene in twelve months. Yes, let's do that.
Yeah, have you watched any of the new episodes? I want only I
only hear your thoughts. Next time on the new episodes of the Simpsons.
If there's any if there's any space left on your body, would you get
one more Simpsons tattoo? And if so, what would it be a very
good question where there's a there's there's a tattoo parlet next door to our hotel
at the moment, I walked into yesterday and I was candy to walking this
afternoon. So maybe you should if you suggest something, can you give us
maybe you know, rot down right, give us three suggestions? You would
you wouldn'tdare get die Bart dying the chest? Would you? Maybe? In
German? Angry Dad like the anger that that's that's post like he's the hero
though, that's like season thirteen fourteen, think of like who's your favorite character?
Though? Is it more like the side characters? Have you got a
mot What about flaming mole or something? I was thinking about mo, Yeah,
but I was I gott to apply some all them again. Yeah,
that'd be a good one. Bowl of flaming cereal. I think that'd be
Goodah, the bowl of flaming cereal. That's good one. Mister Burns is
an x Foles character. Oh that's perfect. Yes, and see they can
make a glide in the dark as well. Yeah, that's actually nice white
ones. But yeah, there you go, already got look forward to watching
you play footing and see what you got. What are you gonna get it
done so I can look out for it, look for maybe like on on
here on all right, we'll do that, do it on Instagram live for
us. Yes, all right, well we do appreciate your time. Time.
That's what next toime. Thanks safe Tom, and we'll have you sometime
in the in the future where we talk about some new episodes. Try to
get let's do it. Sounds good? All right, talk to you soon.
Thank you all the best for our season twenty twenty four. Thank you,
enjoy it. Go CAATs. What an absolute legend, mister Davis,
Mister liberatory is good libert libertaure, Yes, absolutely leg I'm really excited to
see what our taboo he gets. I hope he gets. I hope get
one of their suggestions that'd be so cool, would be me, wouldn't I
think we gave him. We threw in a few good ones. Your bowl
of cereal on fire is a good a good one because he's got the rag
on a stick. But it's just the rag on a stick. It's not
bad, it's just the rag. So he's not he's not going. He's
going with some deep cuts. Yeah, you'd have to sort of take one
too. Oh okay then yeah, yeah, maybe the Lenny of the Box
of Special K there'd be another one. But he seems like he's pretty keen
on the mister Burns as an alien. That would be a good one.
And if I don't know about tattoo technology, whether you could make it so
it actually does sort of glow be something you can do. Surely, I'm
sure it would be quite toxic and poisonous system. Well to the episode,
he's radio radioactive and also worth it. That's worth it. Indeed. All
right, let's talk about lart of the dance. So, mister Davis,
what were your thoughts on the episode, because you know, Libert was saying
that he didn't like the leasta aspect of this, although he can appreciate certain
elements. But I thought overall that there's a really good message here when you're
a kid and kids, Yeah, let kids be kids, but if you
are a kid, enjoy being a kid as well. I say this to
Alley all the time, mate, don't He's always like, I want to
grow up. You don't want to grow growing up straight, but enjoy this
time. It's a tough one to hear when you're a kid, because you
know, you're getting this advice from from grants and like, what do you
know about being a kid or what do you know about being younger? Do
you even remember? Uh? And yeah, Were's like, oh no,
you've got to really relish this moment of being carefree and able to do anything
with there. Of course, there are going to be consequences, but you
know, just have fun, you know, and don't be in such a
hurry to grow up. But yeah, certainly when you're a kid, and
certainly when you're i mean, Lisa is not quite there, but you're approaching
the od the on ramp to adolescents, it's like, let's hurry this up,
shall we know? Being an adult looks kind of cool. Yeah,
but no, you really do want to say to it, like, oh
really, it's just relish this time, just revel in it. So yeah,
look you're write it and it being a really important and valid message.
It's funny, I think you know, when we were chatting with Tom,
we were sort of jokingly said calling this at least episodes a Homer episode.
It really is sort of split right down the middle and right down to the
title as well. Yeah that's true. Yeah, well what a b plot
though. One of the most iconic schemes of all time, right, I
think the I think puts it over. Everyone remembers the I scene that freaked
me out when I was a kid. I had forgotten that that was kind
of like the payoff because I was actually just giggling when his face is right
in the middle of this suction hose. I'm like, that's pretty funny.
And then it pulls out is just got this awful distended, bloodshot eye.
That's marvelous. Yeah. No, it's a really good plot. I mean
a really good B plot, you're right, and a really good plot by
home. It just to as always get rich quick. Apparently it really happened.
One of the writers of the episode, Jace rich Richdale, who was
a formn producer and writer. He read in a magazine that song God caught
stealing Greece to try and profit. All right, so this really happened.
And I think they're the best schemes where it's like they take something happened in
real life, but they simpsonize it and just make it ridiculous. I love
the the acne grease. Oh yeah, later Actne Greece and Shovel. I
love how they must have how that is that's really good. But I mean,
yeah, like I said, Tom's like, oh, I just love
him doing these get rich, get rich quick schemes, and Marge's some offering
up ideas that are slightly less ridiculous. Also, American friends, please do
learn how to pronounce in you. It's right up there with the Caribbean and
aluminum caramel and carmel. Oh my god, Carmels will sets you off.
It's triggering. It's so triggering. Carmel is not guy safe. Yeah,
but Homan to say, oh it's the most fagina rich saving and wise investments
is like, oh no, it's totally through savings and wise investments. Of
course with Greece it's so awesome step back and oh god, it's definitely just
that simple. Of course with Greece, I must admit I want to sort
of go on about guys Keto, Die Journey or that much, but cooking
break bacon, especially for the grease, that's the Keto life in a nutshell,
because you know, you're told in all the cookers like cook stuff in
bacon grease, it's good. Really, I don't know six different cook books
will tell you six different Okay, I look at the bacon grease cent pork
anymore, but ill looking at it, I'm just like yuck. You know,
if you leave the pan and it just dries up or thickens, you're
like, oh my, oh yeah, it's legitimately greasy. Yeah, and
look, one day my heart is going to explode during my daily walk.
But up until then it's like, yeah, you'd be rich. That's correct.
Well, I'm leaving the Lovely Luise all my grease in my will.
What do you think of Lisa Kudrow and this? I thought she did a
great job with Alex. She was really good. She sounded like Lisa Kudrou,
but like a kid at Lisa Kudro is really weird. How I love
the ones where you can sort of talll it somebody you can't quite tell who
it is. I've always been of a mind that all the Friends cast is
great, and all the Friends cast is great together. It's a legitimately good
ensemble of people who work and spark of each other, so well, they've
only had two on the shows. She's the anyone that had an actual proper
role, and then Matthew Perry did that. Could I be anymore of a
house? That's right, that's the only two. But it's weird how the
other ones didn't come onto the show. That's true. Yeah, but I
mean I always thought that Lisa Goodro was probably the best actor of actress.
Yeah. Yeah, they're all charismatic, they're all really entertaining. I think
David Twimm is a lot better actor than he's given credit for. I think
a lot of people sort of go, oh, he's Russ and he sucks,
whereas like, no, I think he's actually pretty good. There was
a lovely, lovely tribute the other day from Tom Selleck, who of course
peered on friends as Richard and he was torn. Man, I love how
they all just melted around tom Selleck. Yeah, just thought, oh my
god, this is the platonic ideal of a man. But he was saying
they were all great, but Perry was the best of the bunch, and
he can now that we review it for the podcast, Nicola and I watch
it and I go he's just a level above like I said, I mean,
yeah, what not long after he does it that he was just like
a Swiss watch or that's like a machine built in a lab to do sitcom
comred percent. And there's certain moments where you go he was like the start
of the scene, then you read and he improvised. He's that wasn't even
in the script. He just did it on the spot, and he like
he made the scene iconic even though it wasn't in the script. You know,
yeah, but enough of it, I mean enough bet friends, this
is friends related. Well that's right, But I did want to say as
well. Over at Low Zealand, it was sort of flicking between channels and
FOXTL to get to the get to the news and had a little time to
kill and the show Blue Bloods was on. You know blue blood I do
not know. It's like sounds like a blue Healer's kind of show. Well
it's cops. Yeah, it's it's a reality though, no, no,
no, it's a it's a scripted drama. And Tom Selley plays like the
patriarch of this family Cops and Tom ultra modern show, modern show. Tom.
He's not nearly eighty, he's like seventy eight. Years old. But
I'm looking at him in this guy. I remember you was magnum dude,
when did you you know Wilford Brimley is yes, yeah, he looks like
Wilford Brimley. Now he's like when did Tom Selly become Wilford Brimley because he's
not a big sort of bushy mustag's a look a little heavier and but Jowley
and it's kind of like, oh, you're gonna start talking about dabeus.
It's like, oh, man, father Time's coming. Frost All it sucks.
Yeah, But Lisa Kudrou in this, yeah, it just really really
good. I mean you're right, I mean that whole I hadn't really considered
how Yeah, it's undeniably and identifiably Lisa Kudro. She's got a very distinctive
voice and delivery style. But also yeah, she's playing it as like a
kid, yeah, but also not a grown up kid, but you know,
a kid who's a little bit more advanced than you know, the first
kid to have the self. That's what I liked about Alex was that like
she came across a bit pompous but also endearing because you can tell she's not
actually pompous. She's just a kid trying to act smarter and older than what
she is. And by the end of it, Lisa not It doesn't break
her down, but she makes her realize, oh shut up and just have
fun. She's like, oh yeah, actually, yeah, okay, Well
that's the thing. I mean. Do they say where Alex came from and
they come from back East or something like that, they may have Yeah,
she's probably from you, like some big city or whatever where you know,
they do move a little bit faster and all the kids have mobile phones and
cool handbags and spray themselves with a bit of Calvin Client's what's the I didn't
Ditribua a favorite moment of this one, but like, what was the start
of a p pretend? Pretension? Attention, Yes, that's pretensions and do
you well, did you have any favorite moments? I didn't take them for
this one. We'll talk, let's see. My mind was just the one
that we already discussed, of course with Greece and Willie, just like freshening
up in the in the kitchen and just my retirement, Grease, it's so
absurd, this story my retirement, Grease. I like that you saw Nelson
sort of being this leberry fishnado. I've never eritten a huckleberry in my life.
What they taste? No, I was just a huckleberry hound. It's
huckleberry hand, isn't it. That's sure? Because because he's on the Simpsons
in the behind the laughter, it's like I was so gay, remember that
find the laugh time. We always thought it was snaggle Puss. It was
super but it out to be huer. Just some some really good side gags
and one liners, like back to schooliosis. I thought that was a thought
that was pretty good. What's one in relevant? Because Alliott starts school next
Monday. Oh my god, I've just started doing something. It's weird now
because when I was a kid, you used to have to go, you
know, back to school, go do some shopping for some pencils and things
like that. Maybe because he's prepping, I don't know, but they send
him home like a pack. It's got all the texters and all the glue
sticks and all the pencils. But then they said to us, I don't
agree and tell me if I'm wrong, right, can we tell me if
I'm weird? And so don't write his name on it because all the stuff
gets shared in the classroom, so no one. I was like, I
think every kid should have their own ship. Oh yeah, I don't don't
write their names on there because you know, other kids, because they might
leave it at school and another that'll become another kids and they'll just take each
other's ones home. And I'm like, or we could just fucking give them
things and teach him to look after them, tea to look after this ship,
because just because you know, things go missing and the kids get upset.
And I was like, well, that's part of school. Yeah,
that's part of resilience. Kids learn, kids lose shit. This is just
something that happens in life. We eventually lose our minds. I don't remind
me, but yeah, it's also a good lesson and like, keep an
eye on your stuff. You know, if your mate needs a pencil,
lend it to them. Yeah, Nicola, can't you personalize that? We
don't personalize that. The readers and the fault And I'm like, that was
some of the fun of school, or personalizing all your ship. That personalized
things anymore. You know, you'd get your you'd get your pencils, and
you'd shave a little bit off the off hand of it and write davish.
Yeah. I just love doing it. Yeah, and I can't personalize anything
anymore. I said to Nickel, I give it a week. This sounds
downright communist. Yeah, I give it a week and he'll be personalizing everything.
Look, I don't thoroughly disliked the idea because look, encouraging sharing is
a good thing. Yeah, and encouraging sort of. But the idea of
sharing is this was mine, but I'll let you use it. Yeah,
that's sharing, not oh you can have it because we're all using the same
thing. Yeah. Look, I understand that schools are probably under resource these
days, but I think you should maybe have a bunch of shit put aside
as either, Like that's the communal pencil box. If you've lost your pencil,
go get one down there. And we had that when I went to
school. We'll go to the lost and found. I don't know, I
just I just thought that buying the pens and stuff. And I was like,
ah, I'm miss doing it because I send him home with a pack
and I like, this is everything's gonna need this year. Don't personalize it.
I was like, you can't tell me what to do. Yeah,
No, I love personalizing, and I also just loved getting because you wrote
your name on Luise, didn't you. I certainly property off. There was
a branding iron Cold but no way New Year. You know when you get
the readers, like the folders, and you get like the wrapping and you
sort of like stick it over. I was like, what are we gonna
have? This Year's like foiled and special? Yeah, so yeah, that
was a That was a favorite thing, largest homemade pepsi. For some reason,
that reminded me of my childhood because I'm just like, that was us.
Everything was homemade, and I was like, you know, it's a
little thick, but the price is right, And I'm like when I was
a kid, I was like, but now look at I'm like, I
see the logic you saving money were true? Yeah, we only need to
save money these days. Although I did try l a ice cola once and
I was like, I can see why it's cheap. Correct, Well that's
why the answer is nothing like the real thing. Yeah, I think that.
I think that was one of my favorite bits and pieces. Let's just
get into our review, shall we head trivia questions? With that? He
asked me for one trivia question me pick your best one. Okay, how
do you pronounce Libertaire? What month was the calendar at the recycling plant.
I'm gonna say they start, so there's somethings they were doing, so they
start on September. No, what if you're normally talking about a playboy playmate,
you say miss what what? What's the first one that comes to mind
when you say it? I don't know Miss November. It's Miss March for
some reason. I never I always think it's Miss March. I never what
the school start because they have summer break. Yeah, when they came back
to school, I thought school started the school time started in Well, here's
a nit we can pick. Maybe they're not coming back from summer holidays.
It's just like the it feels like start of the school year. It does,
doesn't it. Yeah? Maybe that maybe Miss March was just so hot.
They was like, forget it, we don't need to know what day.
He's living in the past, correct As I just did that review of
Old and the Lisa and as the guy that he'd be there and he's like,
you're living in the past. Man. All right, let's get into
a review of the episode. So it originally and August twenty third, nineteen
ninety eight. Written by j O'Brien and directed by Dominic Paul Sino. The
episode kicks off with Homer and Lisa at the Try and Save with Margin Bartney
gathering school supplies. Lisa just wants various types of paper. She's in heaven
right now and but just want that he can use to course my hand with
as would I be. I'm sorry, I'm a sucker. Not when you
were eight, though, I was a big fan of like exercise books.
Yeah, okay, it's like, oh that's a good one. Yeah.
How long did it take before you gave up? Because you always try to
keep it really tidy and then got to a point where you're like, you
fucked up a line, like ah, just mess things up. Now I
can draw scribbles in the cover and things like that. Yeah, it didn't
take long. Although, as I've gotten older and I know a lot of
writers and quote unquote creative types who were like this. You buy a notebook
or like, oh, I'm gonna do some great journaling in this, and
you're like great journaling. You get five pages and it's like, oh,
my thoughts are so boring. I found that really interesting with Tom saying that
he's creative writing is now his own personal diary. Yeah. I was like,
I'm not gonna ask any more questions. This seems quite personal, but
like that's cool. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, journaling and morning pages and
all that kind of stuff. It's good for your mental health. One thing
I've never done is keep a diary, and I kind of wish I did,
you know, because lots sort of a record of like the kid's life
growing up like this, the kids did this today, would have been nice
to look back and go, I remember when that happened. Because when you're
a dad mate getting no sleep, you honestly say, you say to me,
now, what did you do yesterday? I'd have to think that's how
bad my shot to memory is. Now what did you do yesterday? I
have to think he's not lying. I actually can't remember what day it was.
Yesterday? Was it Wednesday? No? Tuesday? Wednesday? Yesterday was
Tuesdays. It's because I got up at like five o'clock this morning to talk
with Michael. I'm not even a parent. I've got no excuse what day
it is anyway, But yes, tries to have gathering school supplies and millhouse.
Then sees Lisa tries to be cool glue in the Haird'm not sure they
ever worked. Was that sort of drinkness? Was like a Winter's ninety eight.
There's something that Mary hadn't come out yet, had it? Lisa?
Stay cool? Millie? Oh hi, Lisa, did you have a nice
summer? Don't you hate that we have to go back to stupid school tomorrow.
I like school me too. We have so much in common. You
had a panguine to your calic. If you don't like it, it's gone.
You want this? No, you've just given me a very vivid flashback
of just you know, I love it when Corman was just the pure out
of nowhere. Oh yeah, the week with the fortnight leading up for the
new school year. This is a very old school kind of thing to talk
about. But you had a crush on Well certainly, but you'd see them
outside of school. It's like we're both shopping for school shoes. I mean
because back in Geelong before we had the big department store Mark. It's the
same now, mate, school shoes from the same place. Okay, well
that yeah, I mean this was the case. But you know, oh
you're getting shoes, so wow, what a coink. You didn't you have
so much in common? What do you say? Six? So do you
have a good sum But there was that thing where I can't really remember actually
talking to them, but like, you're right, you'd sort of or you'd
be just thinking in your head, we're gonna fall in love. It's gonna
happen, It's gonna happen. This this is the year. I remember there
was a girl that's primary school. Her it was Jade, and I loved
her. And then one of my best friends started going out and she was
his girlfriend. I was like, is she really going out? Yeah?
But you know, oh, he's sort of like, oh, should I
approach them now? It was like you sort of feel more grown up if
you're not seeing them in school. Yeah, And I was like, get
away from my daughter. Who is this man you're talking about last week?
Right? That's correct? All right, enough about my embarrassing history. But
yeah, So Milhouse makes a fool of himself here and Homer is now the
cookie Mart. I've always liked the idea of the Quikie Mart having its own
stuff, like the cookie dog, you know, such as the hot dog.
It's Quikie Dog. He's branding everything. So he's getting his regular homies,
got the bubble Gumpsaguar, the Quokie Dog and six Success Magazine. It's
not really a gag there, like, Okay, well, I guess I's
sort of planting this the idea of what he wants to become a further himself.
Yeah, so Success Magazine. He's cleaned out the machine. So now
the quicker dogs don't sound taste any good because they haven't been soaking in their
pretty grease we giness. We can taste, yes, So I was going
to ask this to Tom obviously, but we didn't get around to it.
What's your idea of a perfect greasy meal. Oh, it's usually fried chicken,
fried chicken. Yeah, I'm probably a fried chicken burger. Yeah,
it's gonna have chips on the side of chicken, salt, bit of aoli
to dip them in. Not so much about dipping the chips, you know,
dippy chips. Oh, sometimes I do. My go to fried chicken
meal is from the Hot Chicken Project here in Geelong. You love your tenders.
Friend of the pod is We did to make them an actual friend of
the pot because we mentioned them so often. We do and always complimentary.
Yeah, because they do great chicken. I've never had chicken from there,
ever, it's pretty good. It's quite good. If you can do a
tast test on the podcast and say, all right, guys, hit u
up with some free chicken, I'll talk about how great much, how much
I love it on the show. All right, Well, once I've dropped
ten kilos and I'm not afraid of raw, how much do you want to
lose? Fifteen kilos? How much you lost five already? About that?
Cool? Yeah, yeah, you know me, I can't weigh myself.
It's just my mental well, that's thing I'm not. I'm not weighing myself
frequently. Obviously. I've just got the barometer shirt. I know myself that
if I went in and weigh myself right now, I'd be obsessed with my
weight for the next six months. So just believe me, man, it
is what it is. But no, it would be yeah, man.
Three fried chicken tendis medium to regular hot fries on the side, and they
give you a nice slice of white bread and some pickles, so they spice
them up for you as well. They they can spice them up, you
can go. I think they've got so damn hot as the hottest. I
always love the idea of the ring Stinger pizza from Pizzas of Attitude. What
a name, I know, right, it reminds me of my name,
because my name used to always get the ring Stinger pizza with extra halipinos because
she loves things really, really hot. And she said that's the only pizza
where she felt like she was eating something actually hot. She's the ring Stingers
reminds me of Na What a lady? Yes, yeah, so yeah,
that's my favorite greasy meal. And you you're going for chicken burgies, I'm
gonna go with like if we're going for fast food places, it's a double
tender beer from KFC with some chips on the side and some tenders as well.
I mean getting a fresh macas burger. And I mean, I know
they say, oh, we make them fresh and all that, but you
know those occasions you get one, it's like, oh, you man,
you are fresh off the grilla. Yeah, and you could buns of warm
still yeah literally holding it's like, oh, you're so greasy. But my
idea is like a perfect greasy meal. My favorite is a chicken soup lkey
with extra chicken of course, and garlic sauce. What sauce do you have
on your soup? Hikes? Chilian garlic, Chilian garlic. Okay, yeah,
I'm not a big not much of a spice man, but garlics might
go to But I used to love fish and chips on a Sunday night after
a weekend of drinking. Yeah, fish and chips, can you think of
it? I haven't had chips this year yet. Got I've gone off deep
fried stuff. I miss it. I missed those chips. So we've been
making it. I finally learned how to use the every air fryer, and
I'm like, this is great. It's healthy. It's not quite no no,
and look elemented and look. In the name of full disclosure, I'm
sort of dropping keto and saying I'm trying to lose weight now. I did
a fish and chips on Sunday. It was good. It was good actually,
But at the same time, this is so good that I'm like,
I've got to have this all the time. It's like you're allowed one cheat
meal a month. That's the way it works, mate, You're gotta treat
yourself sometimes. It's indeed, Yeah, did you enjoy it? Though?
I did. Yeah. The thing is, though, when you've gone off
for so long, you built up in your mind. I can't wait for
this. I'm gonna treat myself. It's never quite as good as you remember.
It's just like I don't know, but yeah, I really want chips.
That's my dad's birthday. Today's happy birth it's my dad. And I
was like, do you want to have takeaway? I'll shout and you was
like, nah, I'm going out with your mum. I'm like, fair
enough. Well that's what he wrote. I tried to nice enough anyway.
So yeah, the episode, he's at the QUICKI Mart. He's got the
greasy foods. But then Homer thinks he's gonna be rich because he arteries are
filled with clogged with grease. And then he starts cooking bacon just to get
the grease, as you were mentioning earlier, has made the dog all sick.
I love it looks like he's ready for another squeeze. And that side
of bacon was from my Bridge game tonight March. If you don't mind,
I'm a little busy right now, achieving financial independence with Kens of Greece No
through stavings and wise investments of course with Reeds. My Mike, the bus
is here. Where do you think you're going? It's the first day of
school. Not for you, it isn't you're in the grease business now.
I did kind of feel sorry for Barton's episode though, Barcelo let to go
to school. Yeah, it is right, is sad because the first day
of school you're gonna miss the firs day of school. That's when he says,
here, so this is I thought they started school in September? Do
they not? I think so because we started at the side of the start
of the year because we end our summer holidays. Yeah, who knows,
who knows, It doesn't matter, but yes, but it's a bit sad.
He's going to miss out on going to school, which is weird,
but he's in the grease business. Now. We're now at the school and
they're all going talking about there some a vacation. That was one of the
drags of like back to school. It's like, don't do anything interesting enough,
Like everyone's like, I shaid Homer played video games, I got sun
burnt. This is where Lisa is asked, oh, he Skinner wants someone
for a volunteer for a thankless chore, and Lisa's the one puts her hand
up and it's two. Guide the new student Alex around the school. Now.
She says the line here, which I liked, don't be such a
phoebe as a kid. That was straight over my head. Yeah, but
that's a nice little that's the reference there, by the way, Alex Whitney,
very intimidating name, very cool girl name. Mike Whitney not as intimidating.
Absolutely not to know unless he was walking up to you, saying,
I mean I always wish to be on Who Days Wins. Whenever I used
to go to town, I'd be like, one day's gonna be there offering
me fifty bucks. Put my head into a bucket of like fish cuts.
You know, did you ever watch Who Dads Wins? I'm aware of it,
and not think I may have watched one or two episodes. She was,
yeah, Yeah, Mike Whitney, he was a cricketer, right,
he was, Yeah, And also the judge or the referee for Gladiators in
the nineties, Gladiators. Are you ready? Do you realize there's new Gladiators
on? I think it sort of came and went pretty quickly. Yeah,
I don't think anymore. I was like, well, Vulcan's not on it,
so I ain't watching true. It was a good Netflix stocko about the
American Glady. I've watched it yet. It looks awesome. Though. It's
really good, an't they like royed it up and just like fucking everyone and
pretty much Yeah. Yeah, but there's there's a bit of the end involving
you're going to spoil something, you know, I'm just going to say there's
a bit at the end involving a contestant that's all like where are they now?
Or you know what happened post Gladiators And he sort of drops his line
that literally made my jaw drop. I'm like, what you did? What?
So did? What? With? Who? In where? But Lisa
here, she's she's into kids stuff and doles and playing jacks and she's a
kid though. That's why she's into kids stuff. Although it's kind of odd
that it's like Lisa is usually the one that's more mature kids. Yeah,
and suddenly she has friends at school, Like she takes her friends away.
When when is Lisa ever hanging out with the kids. Yeah, we're sharing
terry. Yeah, it's also a little bit of a disconnect that she's sort
of talking about these very childish things but almost in a kind of an adult
fashion. It's like, well, you gonna want to get yours up a
good doll and all this kind of bit. It's like, I get where
you're coming from, and that's the joke. But at the same time,
it's like, Yeah, if I was being talked to like this by another
sort of eight year I'll be like, what, what's your fucking story?
Do you think? It's a case of Lisa. She's I don't know,
like she's all she's got elements of Alex in her where she tries to act
older than her what she actually is. Yes, but she still wants to
be like the smartest kid as opposed to a young adult. This is a
I don't know if it's even that finer distinction, but the thinction I'm drawing
my head is that Lisa has grown up, Alex is mature. That's how
they're presenting anyway. Yeah, I mean Lisa presents like an adult and Alex
present is like someone who's fifteen or sixteen. I do like the trophy case
ruse as well for cleaning belief, but she takes her to the to the
caffeteria and she says, can new girl sit with us? And she's a
little weird, but just give her a chance, and she immediately wins them
over with her cell phone and everything doesn't pan bag. I did love the
gay that who twins? Which one's the evil one? It didn't day,
didn't it? Yeah, so Alex will use just a second hello. Oh
yeah, like i'd be seen with a Discover card. You have a cell
phone and a purse. That's it. Don't be shy now, maybe a
little joke to break the ice for a big joke. Careful now, nobody
likes to show off. Where are they going? Hey? Wait up?
They left without me. Lisa, I've got an next to your seat,
and you've got an extra lunch. Catch my drift Millhouse, lower those eyebrows
and the other one. I know it's supposed to sort of Oh, it's
not that Lisa's looking at for it, But it also I felt kind of
patron idea, didn't It almost puts you off side a little bit everyone.
When she says that she's a little weird, but just give her a chance,
it's like you're better than her. But Milhouse tries to sweep in lower
those eyebrows, and the other one that's that's not one of those iconic moments.
I forgot which episode it was in, and Lisa is sad. Here
we come back for commercial, Lisa's telling the family that they did her at
school. Master jests they want you to do a surprise party, or maybe
they're playing a surprise party for you. She drinks aste tea. Have you
ever did you have a moment in your life where you didn't like somebody and
they do something which isn't that bad, but you just didn't it made you
dislike them even more, even though it's not even that big of a deal
like this one. Here she drinks asty tea, which is sort of a
big deal, but because she didn't know she doesn't like her, it's sort
of like makes it seem what it is. Yeah, I know what you're
talking about, and I'm sure it's happened. I'm struggling to think of like
specific There's like people also like maybe you work with and I say, oh,
he says this, and everyone's like I like him, and I'm like,
how can you like it? And usually because they've said they'll mispronounced liberatory
or something like or Indian. It's like it's just the little things that really
get under your skin and then really burrow under your Skin's like, oh god,
it's so harmless. But it's like, now he's on a drawboard.
Homer says, you need to copy her in every way. I always great
with the life advice. What would Alex say? And Alix arrives with the
friends the next day. She apologizes, tries to give us some ear rings,
but they're for pierced ears, and Lisa is just not ready for pierced
ears. Maybe you can put them money. Doll I was like, oh
oh that's about oh Caddy, And yeah, sure you'll be ready someday.
This is where Skinner asked Lisa to run the Apple pic, and Alex's got
a different idea. She wants to do the school dance correct, which Lisa
obviously eventually agrees. Then we've got Simpson and Son Grease co. Yeah,
have we skipped where they first go to the grease company. You're not to
grease company or whatever it else? Oh yeah we have yes, home makes
sixty three cents from Greece. Ye give over that sorry? Yeah, yeah,
yeah, you're right, So Homer, Yeah, he makes sixty three
cents from grease. The bacon cost twenty seven dollars. You mum paid for
that. Yeah, but when she gets money from you and I give my
money from grease, what's the problem. I don't look like that. It's
like, soon we'll be earning paper money. Yes, we need to expand
our operation. But yeahs under that scene there. But so I'm realizing that
he's going to be dedicating his life now to this this new scheme. From
home. But they're driving past the school, but it's looking out the window
quite sad, and they ripping crusty burger. Look at that red headed kid.
It must be twenty dollars worth of grease on his forehead alone. I
was thinking more of the deep briar. All right, that's right, you're
did you have acne when you were younger? Terrible acne? Like I'm talking
my big terrible actu. I wouldn't want to leave the house. That's funny.
Lou and I were actually talking about this the other day, and I
think both of us sort of dodged a bullet. I mean I had the
odd pimple here and there, but never Yeah, never terrible acne or anything
like that. You always get the recurring ones in like certain spots. I'd
one that will always come up on like my yeah, on my phone here
all the time cause like land the bed. Yeah, I put my hand
next to my face like that and it's to go greasy and in him my
nose. I used to get in my life. Oh yeah, there was
one. I don't get the one. And it's like when you're at school
and everyone tries to cheating normally, You're like, you know there, but
if everyone's treating you normally, you sort of forget they're there. Well,
stuff is one. It was like on my eye here on the side of
my nose, and I could see it as like blocking my vision is that
big. I just remember going to school and I'm like, oh, everyone's
like being nice, but I know they're all looking at my acne, like
as a teenager. You know, you're fifteen at school and he's got faithful
acne. That's not the worst, but like suck, you learned to grow
thick skin. But like I always say, like, you know, it's
easy to say, no one cares. I get I've been there, you
know I get it. It fucking sucks. Oh, but there's people you
get look at people who have actual issues, whether it they can't walk or
they can't hear, things like that, and it's like, this is pretty
small potatoes and what are you worried about? But I can still as a
fifteen year old, it feels like it's the worst thing in the world.
It really would, even though it's not correct. But Simpson in sun Grease
cour Yeah, I just love that this is create his business. But the
my god, you're crazy. As a kid, I didn't really appreciate this
scene enough, but now now I'm just like, holy shit, this is
amazing. They put the grease in the car. If you mum did woman
her car rules shouldn't done a bit ch of a hunting her keys. And
then the grease is stolen by acne grease and as it turns out, and
shovel cove. We want the shovel. That's just such a Swart Spolder thing
to me, like that kind of that's a real classic Simpsons gag is we
want the shovel racket as well. The girls all arrive at the More for
some party supplies, Like why they're still hanging out with Lisa. It's just
we're seeing Lisa with friends. It makes the story flow. But yeah,
but she's always a loner, that's correct. Yeah, it's an odd one.
But I didn't thought about until just now. But we've got Dingo Junction.
That's where that's the hot place of all the cool clothes. So Dingo
Junction, that's the name of the game. Dash Dingo's the video game that
Lisa plays when she's skipping school pretending she's six because she gets it did play
Dash Dingo and that was the same Dingo in the Lego expanded its operation Dingo
Junction. What a name? Yeah, I know, right, But they're
gonna look ahead, ahead of their age by adding some accessories, some lip
glass, possibly dropped five pounds. They're gonna look good for their date.
And Lisa's like, I don't want what do you mean? What is hello?
Stop saying hello? And the DM y don't mess yourself. Lisa says,
she just wants to be a kid. Hello, And she realizes I've
lost them. Homer is now sad he's been muscled out of the business as
well as the muscle for higher business. And Marsha is just a new scheme,
a crazy scheme. Raising em I say, Emmy EMU farm, but
suggests wanted me to do one last big score and I like that that's what
I want to do. That's why you're here, and he laughs at Marge's
emy farm idea. Now that is then discussing huckleberries. It is an odd
thing, isn't it? Like you never go back to canned but then least
then arrives. This obviously wasn't what they're going for, but I've got it
kind of makes sense. She's looking like Sandy in Greece the Grease episode.
Very clever. Dan. It's not obviously what they're going for, but just
reminding because the kids a watching Greece all the time at the moment and I'm
watching, I'm like, isn't that great of a movie? Not really.
I loved when I was greet when I was younger, and like the songs
are great, but I'm like everything in between is kind of ain't not suitable
for kids and be kind of weird. The line the chicks cream and I'm
like, I heard my mum sing it a lot with the kids the other
day. She's like singing Grease lightly. I was like, it's so weird.
Yeah, we're just sang it. The chicks are creamy, and I'm
like, yeah, it's a real pussy wagon. Yeah, holy moment.
Yeah. I mean, but this stuff in there, you know, that's
a tit and you're like, whoa, holy moly, calm down, Danny
Zuko. Yeah, and all that stuff about it. Tell me more,
Tell me did she put up the faith? All this kind of business.
But I mean there's a whole even aside from the songs, there's a bit
we're assault her sexually. No, I think what is it? Canicki and
Rizzo having sex on the condom breaks or something or he doesn't have a condom
or something, and it's like what now she's pregnant or and then they're celebrated,
they're all happy, like yeah. I mean I haven't seen this when
I was about seven or so actually at the cinema because we all watch it
when we're kids. Yeah, yeh. And I'm sure there are bits of
it going, oh, well, this Songe's great. I mean, oh,
we've got a trush on o Livia and Newton John and wow John Travoldgan
really dance. But there were parts of me going, the fuck is going
on here? I don't I don't understand this or it's like I don't think
I should be hearing this and making fun of living it John because she's a
virgin. Yeah, this whole look at me on Sandra d thing, It's
like I'm getting this on a basic level. It's like, oh, she's
a bit of a goody two shoes, but yeah, in the whole line
about lousy with virginity and all that kind of stuff, it's like, Wow,
Grease is an odd duck. It is very very odd. But then
this is the thing. Obviously it's just Danny Zuko Bullshi. But he implies
in that song tell me more that they did it on the beach, but
apparently she's a virgin. It's like I can't keep up. Well, that's
teenage boys for you. Though. Did you go all the way? Oh
yeah, all the way? She was good. You knew what I mean.
No one knows what they mean. I love about Grease, no house,
I've been looking all over for you. Listen, you've had a crush.
I mean, right, well, this is your lucky day because you're
gonna take me to the dance. Pretty great, I see you. Oh
but I can't I already asked somebody, so unasked her what that one you're
talking me? You got that? And it's gonna be a magical evening.
What am I doing? This isn't me. I'm sorry, Malhouse playing free
next weekend. There's plenty of Milhouse to go around. And then we come
back at home and Bart now living home at night in the greasemobile, and
he promises, God, if he gets the payoff here, you'll doing it
half the profits to charity. He's not stupid, Dad, Let's just go.
And then the drums fall off. He knew should have attached those somehow.
Lisa is now looking at germs and they've got dates and March here is
just like every mum of a loser kid. I think I love the line,
which is just like I have to, honey. It's like, you
don't actually believe I'm gonna be the bawl of the ball. I have to,
honey. I've gotta support you no matter what, even if I truly
believe it. But she says, you still have a good time, and
I agree, you can still have a good time. It's like when I
go with my friends, are like, oh, you're gonna be drinking.
It's not like I don't really need to I rather just drive home. Yeah,
but then you know they're canting on Lisa to the tickets, and Marge
talks to him to going well, scares her away, scares her away with
every Simpson dance. Now yeah, Homer then says this better work because he
doesn't want to work on that EMU farm. And they arrive at the school.
They turn on the suction and we get the eye moment. Yeah,
which always just grossed me out when I was a kid. I love that
that you call back to it a little bit later. There were those little
rubber monster head squishing squeeze them like the eyes would bowlded. I guess that's
yeah, maybe they're going for you, Lisa. They're still collecting tickets.
Everyone's having a good time. Was on the door opens, You can hear
the music clos that's very very quiet Bill Houses date, as Kevin McAlister would
say, Wolf, do you know that was the directors or one of the
writers' sons dressed in girls clothes? Oh my gosh. Really Yeah, they're
like, we don't want to actually make fun of a girl. We'll get
a boy dressed up as a girl. Okay, that's pretty clear, but
Homer, but then arrive in the cafeteria and they get the grease, and
now we wait, so is this your school? Well it used to be.
It's like, oh, I feel bad for partner that's just been taken
out of school. Really, then walks in freshening up in his undies and
in a tower. What's he's cleaning himself with like ajax on a Brellow pain
or something. It's like, oh god, that's so scol Yes, I
mean ah, I mean, what are you doing here? We're a new
foreign exchange students from Scotland, said spit priest. I'm from Scotland. Where
you hail from North kilt Town? No fooling, I'm from North Kilttown.
Do you know Angus McCleod. Wait a minute, here's no Angus McCleod in
North Kiltown. Why you're not from Scotland at all? I don't bit daft.
I was born in rip What the my the diamond grease? No,
yeah, even grease pundits, I'll kill you. The old idea of what
they're trying to run away in this event and he's just chasing up strangles in
from the ipops that once again. Skinner then asked Lisa to take a because
mother has found a doom bug corner and she got a corner in the basement
and she goes in and she realizes that nobody is dancing together because acting like
a bunch of kids. Yep, that's what I don't actually recall ever having
a dance. At primary school, we used to have the things called the
Ruggrats Disco. You remember Ruggrats. It was the kids said to wear cotton
on now is yes and Friday night, seven o'clock Ruggrets Disco seven till ten,
All ages, all underage, all ages, underage, all ages.
And that's where I got my first kiss, and I saw my first boobies.
I saw them, yeah, Molly, Yeah, it's just it's literally
just come back to me. So being in the tunnels at explated at Rugrats
going through and there was just like this girl who was just like flashing this
kid, this boy his name was Daniel always says last Daniel m and he
was just like you don't check it out and she flashed me as well,
and I was like I know what to do right, Yeah, So many
feelings, yes, good times. The Rugrats discoll What was your earliest like
school social or dance or things like that, or or just like an advoca
disco kind of thing. Didn't they have like the blue light discot the lyric
or something. Wasn't that a thing after my time that I was older?
Yeah? Yeah, I mean I remember when I was at school there was
there's the Italian Social Club out on the out on the road to like Ocean
Grove and that. But it's actually called the Peninsula, isn't it. I
think so oh might just actually be called the Italian Social Club because it had
a nickname that I cannot say on this podcast. I know what it is.
You know, I gave them not said to say, yes, we
don't say that, And you know i'd hear about oh yeah we went to
some and so on the weekend, and I'm like, oh, that sounds
like funny. Yes, thanks for reminding me. I just sound like too
far away and too honestly too much when we're growing up. When I was
growing up, like Lee Pott going Leopods on the Elephant Graveyard. But you
know, there'd be the odd, yeah, just house party where it's or
you know, video night or something like that. And then yeah, I
think there were a couple of school dances, and it all sort of culminated
in year twelve with this this big dance web. You're able to actually allow
it, even if you weren't fully eighteen, you were sort of allowed to
drink, and we all just got ship faced. That's the thing. I
asked that this girl who was so I was punching so far above my weight.
I couldn't believe it that. She said, yet, that's what you
do. You got to take chances. Well, yeah, it's lovely.
Girl actually said yes. But then I made up with another girl, dirty
dog. I said, your dirty dog. Oh dear, Oh, well,
apologies to this girl. We all break a heart or two, didn't
we? Well, had a heartbreak and and we broke some hearts as well.
Yeah. Correct, Oh Lisa, it's terrible, Okay, this dance
has gone Titanic. What happened? Well, the boys and girls are like
afraid of each other. They're acting like a bunch of kids. I know
what is up with about it. It's because they are kids, and so
are we. Come on, Alex, we've only got nine, maybe ten
years tips when we can giggle in church and cheer with our mouths open and
go days without meaning we'll never have that freedom again. Listen. You can
giggle and stink all you want, but I have a credit card, so
on you Billian Homer then caused a greace to explode. It comes through the
vent into the dance. Here comes a grease ball and that's what That's what
Tom was mentioning Luid. I love that. He's like, I won't do
the accent, but no, hold spot, it's okay when Isaiah yes anyway,
so funny. But then Lisa tells a just at your age and she
throws a greaseball at her, which she didn't start doing in return, and
there was some bacon in that. That's the end of the episode. Yeah,
a sweet ending. They haven't hit the well. This is considered post
golden ear season ten, but there's still got Golden era of vibes to it.
