The Combine is underway, and it happens every single year where there's one player where we go oh, my goodness, and that player is Sonny Styles, who is going to be a top ten pick, but he may have moved up even a little bit higher than that. He was a former safety at Ohio State and now he is a linebacker. His dad played in college in the NFL. But he put up some pretty impressive numbers for a guy who weighs almost two hundred and fifty pounds running a four four forty. His vertical is forty three and a half. So I don't know how important that is unless you're trying to block a field goal. But you know, we love these measurables. Now, I don't know what his arm length is. By the way, we did measure our arms yesterday. We'll reveal that in the final hour of the program aka Armageddon.

I do tend to watch it every year. Like I watched yesterday. Was offensive, Lineman, I want to say, and it was fascinating. Like the dude's going around a cone, his foot slips out, he drops down to her knees. You know that that kid is crushed Right now, his parents are watching. They're like, oh, no, you should have worn the other cleats.

Speaker 2: Uh, get ready for this because there's only one legitimate quarterback, first round quarterback. That's Fernando Mendoza. But you will get an onslaught of publicity for Ty Simpson, the Alabama quarterback. Happens every year where we will you got to have something to talk about, and you're going to have them build people up and then you're going to have them tear people down and then somewhere in between is where they're going to end up as we go into the draft. But I think Ty Simpson from Alabama will get a lot more love than he's getting right now because we're trying to, you know, bolster that first time. You know, when you think of the draft, Maan, we were so spoiled a couple of years ago where you got all these quarterbacks and that's what this is about, you know.

Speaker 2: These drafts before where you get a fan base there and all of a sudden they're on the clock and then all of a sudden they say, and the Buffalo Bills take you know, Jimmy Lipper offensive guard in C State and they're like yeah, and they have no idea who they're getting. All you want to know is do we got a skilled position guy? Are we going to get an edge rusher here? That's all that you care about, Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 4: Yeah, I've worked the NFL draft and I've been to one. We would to want a green Bay and the fan base when you draft a skill position guy, a quarterback, running back, whide receiver, all right, let's go, let's go, and then this offensive tackle or offensive guard or detackle. All right, Okay, okay, it's not the line, right, okay, But.

Speaker 2: That's how you win in the NFL is the offensive line and defensive line. But we're so it's just like the Raiders might be committing malpractice by drafting Fernando Mendoza and not having a good offensive line. You draft Asked and Genti and you don't have a good offensive line. Hopefully he gets an opportunity to ease in to the quarterbacking position, because I don't want him starting week one. Even if he's ready to start week one, he's not going to be ready to start. And I hope that they give him an opportunity where hey, let's bolster the offensive line and give him a chance, because if not, then you're going to have a similar situation to what you had last year with the Raiders when they had one of the worst offensive lines in football.

Speaker 2: And that's I don't know if I don't know if Ashton Genty is going to be a great running back. I don't know if he's going to be a Jamior Gibbs kind of player. I mean, he was fascinating in college, but this is the NFL and I think this will be a big year for him coming up to see are you able to rely on him? And there were times when he had I mean, he had moments, but still you gotta have an offensive line and those teams that do you protect your quarterback? And I mean New England was able to go to the Super Bowl. They went out and bolstered their offensive line. Now, granted that offensive line didn't look good in the playoffs and certainly the Super Bowl, but they gave Drake May a chance. And same thing with the Bears with Caleb Williams. I kept saying, you got to get an offensive line, and they went out and signed three offensive linemen. If you're going to have a great quarterback or the potential for a great quarterback, don't try to fool anybody because you won't. You got to have an offensive line. But I hope Fernando Mendoza and you might get some comparisons. Now, dan Orlofsky even said this yesterday from the Mothership that Ty Simpson makes some plays, and he was kind of comparing him with Fernando Mendoza and leaning towards ty Simpson as this guy's got a lot of talent there. Now the Mothership is trying to sell the draft too, and everybody else who's going to be, you know, covering the NFL Draft, presenting the NFL Draft.

Speaker 2: Now Aler might be a guy who ends up like one of those second day picks who could turn out to be an NFL quarterback. He got hurt with Penn Steak, but there were probably five to seven quarterbacks where we're like, man, you got to position yourself. No one was talking about Fernanda Mendoza. He came out of nowhere and had a magical season, obviously, but that's how.

Speaker 2: Oh, Indy, Indiana got a quarterback from cal Nothing to see here, but there was. And that's why I go back to what Kirk kirk Street said preseason. He said, keep an eye on for an end of Mendoza in Indiana, and Herbie was the only guy I heard say that. That made it feel like maybe there's something there building off the previous year with Indiana. It's tricky with these quarterbacks, and there's going to be two or three quarterbacks out of nowhere for this upcoming season. In college football, it happens all the time. But nuss Meyer and Klubnik, I don't know if they're NFL quarterbacks.

Speaker 2: Remember Carson Beck, he was going to be a first round draft pick, and I went, we're watching a different game because I don't think he's a first round draft pick, but he might be one of those guys who gets a chance to be a backup quarterback.

Speaker 8: Yeah, Paul, it doesn't happen that often, but every couple of years there's just a wasteland at quarterback. Twenty twenty four, six quarterbacks taken in the first twelve picks of the draft. If you go back to twenty twenty two, it was a little down. Kenny Pickett was the first pick and he didn't go to twenty. Then you had Desmond Ritter. Not a lot of juice in that draft. But the year before you had Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, even Kyle Trask was interesting, and that was a juicy quarterback draft.

Speaker 2: But it alternates, Yeah, and only one of them panned out, with Trevor Lawrence. I would love to see mac Jones get another opportunity because I think he was done wrong by the Patriots. Imagine your offensive coordinator is a defensive coordinator. You go to the playoffs and I mean, they didn't have weapons, and it felt like mac Jones didn't get the credit, but he certainly got the blame. And then he got kicked to the curb and you know, bounced around a little bit. And now all of a sudden you go to San Francisco and you saw that when he played, I mean he can play. Now, he can be a starting quarterback. I think it's like Malik Willis. Same thing with Tennessee, where I thought he had a lot of talent. It seemed like they moved on from him quickly. Oh man, we got a draft will Levis. I'm like, okay, and then they moved on quickly from him.

Speaker 8: Yeah, Paulin Dan, I'm currently nerding out on quarterbacks drafted by year. Remember twenty eleven, Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, Ryan Mallett. That's a lot of names, yeah, but not a lot of good names. No, but people love Jake Locker until he got that I did, I did, you weren't you weren't alone?

Speaker 2: I thought, man, Jake Locker, Athletic played it, you dub and then I realized that he couldn't complete those passes over the middle. Ryan Mallett was going to be a big deal because he was Michigan, and then he transferred to Arkansas.

Speaker 5: When he played in the Rose Bowl against UH Wisconsin, wasn't it against JJ Watt? Of course I knew it, and I thought, I thought Andy Dalton played an unbelievably intelligent game. And I thought, man, he's, you know, red rifle tall guy.

Speaker 2: He got some movement there, and I thought, man, he's a good pick up and he and he turned out to be a pretty good pro, I would say a decent pro. Nice career, But that's just you know, it's who you go to and when you go to that team and what is the infrastruct So you can be a great talent, actually you can be better than average talent, but be on a team and they'll make you even better. You'll look even better. And I think, like Jalen Hurts, that team makes him look better. I think a standalone Jalen Hurts, I don't think that he stands out as a great quarterback, but he's great with what the Eagles do, and probably another super Bowl appearance. He's a Hall of famer. He might be a Hall of Famer now he's not MVP regular season. But you know the way this goes. Now, you win a couple of super Bowls, you got a chance to be a Hall of Famer.

You could go to the NFL Players Association and you could go on their website click on this and the players for these teams would be grading an A through an F. It could be team facilities, it could be the playing surface, it could be travel, it could be the weight room. They gave grades on every ownership, gave grades on all of these teams. And so the last three years this was available at the NFL Players Association website.

The Broncos. They got an A in the following categories home field, training room, training staff, food and dining, strength, coaches, team travel, GM, and team ownership. How you do it, and they're winning. The Lions nothing lower than a B minus, with one exception the offensive coordinator, in which they were given a C minus. Vikings and Dolphins. They had eleven A minuses or better for both of these teams. Seahawks had fourteen A minuses or better, the Raven's lowest grade B minus. You could imagine. Oh, the Jets head coach got an A even though he fell asleep yesterday. Apparently at the combine he's resting on his laurels. Oh okay, thank you, Seahawks. Home field, Fanther's ownership B minus.

Really the players gave very bad grades for training room, training staff, weight room, and strength coaches. Like the Cardinals, their players gave very bad grades for all of those. That's direct because that's your people keep you healthy and get you physically ready for the season. And coincidentally they're a terrible team.

Didn't Woody Johnson get like an F last year and then they redid the locker room after that? I mean, you're making billions of dollars here. Can't you treat your players better? At least get to be It doesn't have to be an AA plus, but you know, like a B.

I mean you mentioned it just before, but the Seahawks, like one of the things you think about the Seahawks is when you play them in Seattle, that home field advantage is brutal because the place is so loud to succee, I know it's home game field is an f but man, it just doesn't line up with what you think. I clearly they know players don't like the turf that they use there, but man, you think of that field as just a fortress.

And if I'm a Jet or Giant, I know this is terrible, and the Jets and Giants ownership know it's terrible, and it would make you think, at least it would me twice. Do I want to play on that field eight games a year? And what's that going to do to the longevity of my career? You know, neighbors got hurt and they attribute that, you know to the field.

Do you think it's going to just get swept under the rug and pretend you didn't get a D and this and an F and family of facilities and just go about your business like usual.

Do you make them park like a half a mile away? There is no green room, there's no hot food in there, like, like, what is it? And comparing that? So one team has an F F minus and then another one has an A What is the difference between those two? And this is where the NFL. You know that the home office should be looking at this collectively and saying this is bad for us. You know, we look bad here. We make twenty three billion dollars in revenue. Can't we spend a little money. It's like I got bad tires on my portia Ye, yes, Steven.

This says ahead of the twenty twenty five NFL season that Jets unveil the comprehensive renovation of the locker room and adjacent areas at the training center. Upgrades include ninety two custom built lockers with high tech features such as ventilation and USB ports.
