<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game This Morning is with me
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grub, your host from Giantbob dot com. Thank you
<v Speaker 1>for tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking
<v Speaker 1>about an unexpected new Nintendo Switch to edition and is
<v Speaker 1>unreal ruining movies. It's gonna be a good one because
<v Speaker 1>we have Jana Choa on the show. Jan how are
<v Speaker 1>you doing?
<v Speaker 2>I am doing good, Grub. In this week's Hyperfixation, I'm
<v Speaker 2>thinking I'm just gonna go become a runner and a
<v Speaker 2>track star.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, Now is that something that comes naturally?
<v Speaker 3>Have you been? Okay? Track star? Do you mean like
<v Speaker 3>sprinter or long distance? Uh?
<v Speaker 2>Primarily long distance. I think Dan has incepted me with
<v Speaker 2>the idea of perhaps joining him in the marathon he's
<v Speaker 2>running later in the year. Now that's all the way.
<v Speaker 2>In October, I've done a five K, I did a
<v Speaker 2>five k last year, and I have one coming up
<v Speaker 2>in April. But that's three miles compared to what is it,
<v Speaker 2>twenty six twenty seven, so.
<v Speaker 3>It is a twenty four point one. I can't remember
<v Speaker 3>what a marathon is.
<v Speaker 2>Something like that, so mentally trying to prepare for that. Also,
<v Speaker 2>you know, a friend of the site, Michael O'Leary. He's
<v Speaker 2>always running these runs like around the Disney parks and
<v Speaker 2>that just sounds fun and they get cool metal.
<v Speaker 3>Real fun. Yeah, it's a good time. Like if you're
<v Speaker 3>gonna pay the money to be part of that, like
<v Speaker 3>at least you get a.
<v Speaker 2>Cool metal Yeah. And also in the process I could
<v Speaker 2>get hot greb.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's dangerous though. I don't know what we're gonna do.
<v Speaker 1>Are we on YouTube? I know we're trying some new
<v Speaker 1>stuff this morning. Is the YouTube feed go on?
<v Speaker 2>I believe YouTube should be going, Okay.
<v Speaker 3>It turned maybe it's not as it turned on on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>I will I will investigate that as the show is going.
<v Speaker 3>I'm I don't know. It's so.
<v Speaker 1>I was sick over Christmas and then a different cold
<v Speaker 1>earlier earlier in January, and now I think it's I'm hoping,
<v Speaker 1>which is an awful thing, to hope that this is
<v Speaker 1>just a small bit.
<v Speaker 3>Of food poisoning.
<v Speaker 1>I was up all all not all night, but it
<v Speaker 1>was up pretty late dealing with an upset Tom Tom.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like, okay, and I want to like do
<v Speaker 1>the show and everything, and I'm feeling good enough to
<v Speaker 1>do it. But it's like, ah, that's I wish I
<v Speaker 1>could have slept last night. That would have made a difference.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, it's uh, one thing after another over here
<v Speaker 1>dealing and at this time I'm like, it's probably not
<v Speaker 1>the kids, but the other two times they definitely just
<v Speaker 1>brought home some fun new disease and I had to
<v Speaker 1>get through that one battle.
<v Speaker 3>It's one battle after another over here. Thank you.
<v Speaker 1>Since all right, let's go ahead and explain ourselves. We're
<v Speaker 1>Giant bomb dot com. We are independent games media, video
<v Speaker 1>game dufaces out here on our own, and you can
<v Speaker 1>help prop us up and ensure that we can continue

<v Speaker 3>you all so much.
<v Speaker 1>It also gets you add free versions of the episodes,
<v Speaker 1>other goodies, things like that. All right, as far as
<v Speaker 1>this show goes, most weekdays, I Jeff Graub will help
<v Speaker 1>piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking news
<v Speaker 1>and maybe even some of our own original reporting. For
<v Speaker 1>all these topics, I'll get the input of a bona
<v Speaker 1>fide expert who will make Me look smart? If you
<v Speaker 1>are watching live on Twitch welcome, You can always listen
<v Speaker 1>to the show later on podcast feeds by searching for
<v Speaker 1>Game Mess Mornings, or find the RSS feed on giant
<v Speaker 1>bomb dot com. You can also catch the show later
<v Speaker 1>with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 3>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the Morning Mess with critic reviews for MEO
<v Speaker 1>Memories in Orbit. We did a quick look of this.
<v Speaker 1>Chuck definitely enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm going back
<v Speaker 1>to it.
<v Speaker 3>I'm seeing it, I'm getting it. It has an eighty.
<v Speaker 1>Three on Open Critic, four stars from Alison Cochran at
<v Speaker 1>the Gamer Meo Memories in Orbit is a demanding, luminous
<v Speaker 1>journey through dick Hey and empathy, one that asks a
<v Speaker 1>lot of its players and gives back just enough to
<v Speaker 1>make sure the struggle the struggle is worthwhile. In eight
<v Speaker 1>out of ten from Nintendo Life, MEO is a compelling
<v Speaker 1>adventure with solid platforming in combat, The vessel is a
<v Speaker 1>great place to explore, and the mod system adds versatility.
<v Speaker 1>A great Metroidvina then through its similarities to genre heavyweights,
<v Speaker 1>though it's a similarities to genre heavyweights stops it from
<v Speaker 1>being essential. That's where I was kind of at early on,
<v Speaker 1>where it's like, I can like see the comparisons like
<v Speaker 1>one to one to Hollow Night.
<v Speaker 3>Sure it's not quite Hollow Night.
<v Speaker 1>Although I think I've heard from people who definitely prefer this,
<v Speaker 1>So I think there's gonna be a space for if
<v Speaker 1>Hollow Night wasn't for you.
<v Speaker 3>I mean that's Chuck.
<v Speaker 1>Chuck like enjoyed Silk Song, but this is the one
<v Speaker 1>where he's like, oh, this one clicked a lot more,
<v Speaker 1>And I think it might kind of open up the
<v Speaker 1>genre to even more people who like I want a
<v Speaker 1>Hollow Night, but maybe not quite as punishing, although this
<v Speaker 1>game definitely has its difficulty. Last one nine out of
<v Speaker 1>ten from Matti Fisher A Duels ss Mio is a dark,
<v Speaker 1>challenging Metroid Venus souls like that perfectly understands what makes
<v Speaker 1>this genre so much fun. Combat feels precise and weighty,
<v Speaker 1>with fantastic enemy design, and one of the most enjoyable
<v Speaker 1>Metro Venua maps seen in years. Also, Troversal is incredible
<v Speaker 1>A solid one of these. Any any interest, Jan, I know,
<v Speaker 1>like you're like Metroid Vana, like relationship runs hot and cold.
<v Speaker 1>Sometimes you always want to try something out. Does this
<v Speaker 1>sound like one that could be for Janachoa?
<v Speaker 2>I think, Greb, I'm gonna be a little bit superficial here,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm going to say that the overall look of
<v Speaker 2>the game is not enticing me. I did like the
<v Speaker 2>look anesthetics of Silk Song a lot, and you know,
<v Speaker 2>for a Metroid Vana, you're going to be in that
<v Speaker 2>world a lot, and I think if you're not enjoying
<v Speaker 2>the visual accompaniment, then you know, maybe the game also
<v Speaker 2>will not be for you. Looking at Neo Memories and
<v Speaker 2>Orbit not particularly my type of look for a game,
<v Speaker 2>but Chuck is very high on it. Folks. There's a
<v Speaker 2>quick look out on the website if you were curious
<v Speaker 2>to see what MEO is all about. But it's cool
<v Speaker 2>to see that a game is doing so hot right
<v Speaker 2>out the gate of twenty twenty six, Greb.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you know, we went into January without really having
<v Speaker 1>too much to be excited about in terms of known
<v Speaker 1>quantities of games that were coming. Everyone was sort of
<v Speaker 1>looking forward to Resident Evil Requiem in February, so it's.
<v Speaker 3>Like, yeah, well and we're still looking forward to that.
<v Speaker 1>So It's always nice to see one of these games
<v Speaker 1>pop off unexpectedly, and this was definitely one of the
<v Speaker 1>first to do that this year. But yeah, like I said,
<v Speaker 1>Chuck's really into it when he showed off to me
<v Speaker 1>and the quick look was really impressive.
<v Speaker 3>And yeah, I'm.
<v Speaker 1>With you on the look. It's like, it's not super
<v Speaker 1>clicking with me. You know, you're playing as these little
<v Speaker 1>like ethereal robot guys. I could see it winning me
<v Speaker 1>over overtime, though, so I'm gonna stick with it a.
<v Speaker 3>Little bit long.
<v Speaker 1>Winning meover time, winning me over, yes, exactly. Donkey Country
<v Speaker 1>Returns HD gets free update for Switch and Switch to.
<v Speaker 1>This is from my Nintendo News. Nintendo has surprise announced
<v Speaker 1>and released a free content update for Donkey Kong Country
<v Speaker 1>Returns HD. In version one point one point zero.
<v Speaker 3>Switch and Switch two.
<v Speaker 1>Players can now play as Dixie Kong, equipped with her
<v Speaker 1>iconic ponytail, so she like works the way she has
<v Speaker 1>in the other games in single player and local cop
<v Speaker 1>and and and race through levels of higher speeds, yes,
<v Speaker 1>in the newly added Turbo Attack mode. Mostly it's just
<v Speaker 1>they fixed the game. Jan That's actually one of the
<v Speaker 1>big things here. There was when they ported this game
<v Speaker 1>from you know, three D at three DS and we
<v Speaker 1>over to.
<v Speaker 3>The switch and now to the switch to.
<v Speaker 1>But previously on the Switch one version, there was like
<v Speaker 1>some issues with the way that the graphical layers were
<v Speaker 1>being rendered, so that especially in the silhouette stages. I
<v Speaker 1>want to say, I'm trying to remember exactly what was
<v Speaker 1>wrong here, but I think in the silhouettes silhouette stages,
<v Speaker 1>the game did not look the way it was intended
<v Speaker 1>to look, and this updates that and solves it. Now
<v Speaker 1>now they're adding other things and this is all free.
<v Speaker 1>It's a weird game. I think to get one of
<v Speaker 1>these Nintendo switch To editions before something like a Zeno
<v Speaker 1>Blade Chronicles X, which is the one I think everyone's
<v Speaker 1>kind of waiting for. But I could see this game
<v Speaker 1>also being like urgent for them in terms of, oh,
<v Speaker 1>we want to fix that eventually. Let's throw in some
<v Speaker 1>extra stuff, make it a Nintendo switch To edition, make
<v Speaker 1>a big deal about it, and see if we can
<v Speaker 1>get even more mileage out of the game.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Greb, this seems like an odd pick. I know
<v Speaker 2>that this, well, Zeno Blade is technically first party, isn't it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yes, yes it is.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, Well, I was going to use the excuse that
<v Speaker 2>Donkey Kong is like a first party boy, so he
<v Speaker 2>would get priority in line. But Zeno Blade Chronicles, I
<v Speaker 2>think is a franchise that a lot of people are
<v Speaker 2>clamoring for for some type of update. I loved three
<v Speaker 2>a lot, and I write I think that is a
<v Speaker 2>rare instance of me wanting to play a remaster or
<v Speaker 2>I guess like a port of a fairly recent game
<v Speaker 2>to a modern console. Interesting that it's that it took
<v Speaker 2>this long to fix it. I can't say that this
<v Speaker 2>is one that I am also clamoring to go play,
<v Speaker 2>even though I am a recent convert.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean it's a good game. It is.
<v Speaker 1>I've just I've played it a couple times before.
<v Speaker 3>You know.
<v Speaker 1>This is now if you're counting the fourth release of
<v Speaker 1>this game, so it's yeah, like you know, and and
<v Speaker 1>this is a free update again, so not really a release,
<v Speaker 1>but yeah, free update. So but it's it's the fourth
<v Speaker 1>iteration of this release that it's like, oh, is this
<v Speaker 1>a reason to pay attention to this? And I like
<v Speaker 1>the game, but I didn't love it so much that
<v Speaker 1>I will be playing it again for these reasons.
<v Speaker 2>Greb. I'm a little bit disappointed that they had every
<v Speaker 2>perfect opportunity to do like a Marvel Spider Man and
<v Speaker 2>update the look of Donkey Kong to the new dufe.
<v Speaker 3>Oh that have been funny.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and if they did, I think I might have
<v Speaker 2>actually checked it out because I like the design of
<v Speaker 2>nicer himbo Donkey Kong rather than like angrier eyebrows Donkey Kong.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that Donkey Kong designed at the times of you know,
<v Speaker 1>the Silicon graphics computers, and they just had one look
<v Speaker 1>to them. They really couldn't emmote much more than that,
<v Speaker 1>so they just like, you default to angry, and you're
<v Speaker 1>kind of angry in every situation. It worked out great
<v Speaker 1>when they obviously translated that to the cartoon, the Crystal
<v Speaker 1>cocaut like just you know, pure art. But otherwise, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>kind of left something to be desired. I always like
<v Speaker 1>that old Donkey Kong design, but this new one is
<v Speaker 1>definitely my preference in this moment for sure. All Right,
<v Speaker 1>Peak devs next game looks like Overcooked in a warehouse
<v Speaker 1>and it is coming out this year. This is from
<v Speaker 1>four James at Polygon agro Crab, the developer behind Peak,
<v Speaker 1>one of twenty twenty five's most successful Friends Slop games
<v Speaker 1>and holder of the fourteenth spot in our Best Games
<v Speaker 1>of the Year list, has revealed their next game will
<v Speaker 1>be coming this year. It was on ours right, do
<v Speaker 1>we get peak on the top ten?
<v Speaker 2>I don't remember if it was a top ten. I
<v Speaker 2>know that a one category for sure.
<v Speaker 1>Crash Out Crew is the name of the new game.
<v Speaker 1>And it looks like pure chaos. This overcooked but rather
<v Speaker 1>than it's overcooked, but rather than being in a fast
<v Speaker 1>paced kitchen environment with your pals, you're instead driving turbocharged
<v Speaker 1>to forklifts around enormous warehouses. Probably not too dissimilar to
<v Speaker 1>how you know, FedEx or ups runs their warehouses. Given
<v Speaker 1>the state of some of my packages turning how they
<v Speaker 1>turn up at Danielle Shipping things move Fast, reads the
<v Speaker 1>Steam description, and they go on to describe what does
<v Speaker 1>very much jan sound like over overcooked but in a warehouse,
<v Speaker 1>like you're even like getting orders that you have to
<v Speaker 1>like go get certain.
<v Speaker 3>Packages to fulfill and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 1>So hey, one thing, one thing here cool, this sounds
<v Speaker 1>like a pretty cool game. The other thing, Oh yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is the sort of stylings of Agrocrab release a
<v Speaker 1>game like every year, and just because they had a
<v Speaker 1>mammoth hit that surpassed every everything they thought was going
<v Speaker 1>to happen, doesn't mean they're going to abandon that and
<v Speaker 1>that's cool. It's like they could just keep making like
<v Speaker 1>DLC for PA and and sell us different hats for forever,
<v Speaker 1>and they will do that, and they probably will kind
<v Speaker 1>of keep going back to that, but man, indie depths
<v Speaker 1>could also keep delivering numerous games one after the other,
<v Speaker 1>and that's really exciting to me.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and it feels good to support an indie team
<v Speaker 2>like agro Crab Grab where you know, making games is
<v Speaker 2>a difficult process. We all know this at this point,
<v Speaker 2>hopefully we all know this, but to see a smaller
<v Speaker 2>team turn it around and pop out this year like no,
<v Speaker 2>we got another one on the way, and especially given
<v Speaker 2>their track record with their previous games, I know that
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to be in store for a good time.
<v Speaker 2>I don't always click with every agro Crab release, but
<v Speaker 2>Peak for sure was a good time. And I think
<v Speaker 2>that they have also been one of those pioneers to
<v Speaker 2>really dial in the multiplayer I don't want to say
<v Speaker 2>friend slot, but the multiplayer experience and just creating that
<v Speaker 2>havoc and fun amongst the homies. Grub any game that
<v Speaker 2>lets me drive a forklift, I'm.
<v Speaker 1>In yeah, I'm I'm in the same. I'm the same way,
<v Speaker 1>of course. I like my dad games, and forklifts do
<v Speaker 1>a dad game make. I'm definitely interested in this. I'm
<v Speaker 1>always curious to see how like the prox chat stuff
<v Speaker 1>is gonna work in one of these friends slop games.
<v Speaker 1>The characters are super cute and crash Out Crew like
<v Speaker 1>even more so than Peak, at least from stills.
<v Speaker 3>You know, Peak is great just because the faces.
<v Speaker 1>Were so emotive and the kind of the muppet shape
<v Speaker 1>of the body created a lot of opportunity for comedy.
<v Speaker 1>But I think there's a cool design to this Crash
<v Speaker 1>Out Crew.
<v Speaker 2>If this is a game that can wind up supporting
<v Speaker 2>multi local or local multiplayer, I could see that taking
<v Speaker 2>up a lot of the casual audience as well. I
<v Speaker 2>have a lot of friends that will bust out Overcooked
<v Speaker 2>when friends are over, because that is an easy thing
<v Speaker 2>for for people to just bust out and play at
<v Speaker 2>a house party if they don't want to play something
<v Speaker 2>like Mario Party or Mario Kart and they just want
<v Speaker 2>to actually work together, so I don't know. Crash Out
<v Speaker 2>Crew also fantastic name. Sometimes I feel like that's me
<v Speaker 2>when I look in the mirror and i'm and I'm
<v Speaker 2>always talking.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's just like whenever I'm having emotions about the world,
<v Speaker 1>I'm in that crash Out Crew.
<v Speaker 3>Jan, That's what I'm doing. Yeah, this is so this
<v Speaker 3>is Agro Crab.
<v Speaker 1>Jackson in the chat points out, Oh, yeah, they did
<v Speaker 1>Going Under, which I can't remember exactly, Jen, but another
<v Speaker 1>Crabs treasure was them as well, and that felt like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>that would be either one big go another Crab's treasure,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like, no, they immediately that was that, you know,
<v Speaker 1>the Souls Born Crab game where turn on the easy mode, Yes,
<v Speaker 1>you get a gun, which is what we remember. But
<v Speaker 1>another Crabs treasure was you know, that would be another
<v Speaker 1>studio's entire go around, and it's like no, they immediately
<v Speaker 1>had peak right after that. And now they're having this
<v Speaker 1>So very cool to see, and again I find it
<v Speaker 1>very encouraging because it's my old thing. Is I like
<v Speaker 1>novelty and new games and stuff that comes out of nowhere.
<v Speaker 1>That's been gaming for me my whole life. Yeah, and
<v Speaker 1>we're not getting that from corporations anymore. We kind of
<v Speaker 1>have to like look to the indie side of things,
<v Speaker 1>and they're delivering it's that's the best.
<v Speaker 2>Part here, and you know the best part. And I
<v Speaker 2>think this is just how I've been skewing the last
<v Speaker 2>couple of years, GREB, where I just wind up appreciating
<v Speaker 2>and enjoying more of my indie game experiences over the
<v Speaker 2>years rather than the Triple A blockbusters. Because grub these
<v Speaker 2>these big behemoths of the industry, they can't move as
<v Speaker 2>nimbly as an MD studio, right, They can't suddenly refocus.
<v Speaker 2>Say they wanted to turn Marathon into a Hades like,
<v Speaker 2>they can't do that at this point, No way.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And they couldn't like, like, let's get Marathon out
<v Speaker 1>so next year we could do our Hades like instead. Sure,
<v Speaker 1>that's there's just no way. It's too big, too expensive.
<v Speaker 1>The size of the bet would have to be too
<v Speaker 1>big for them to justify doing something.
<v Speaker 3>Like baby too big, maybe too big.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's go ahead and take a break. We
<v Speaker 1>have plenty of more headlines to get to after this.
<v Speaker 1>We'll do that once we have some messages. If you
<v Speaker 1>want to skip out on those. We put out ad
<v Speaker 1>free versions of the video and audio program. You can
<v Speaker 1>get those by going to giant bomb dot com slash Join.
<v Speaker 1>We'll be right back. It's game mass Mornings. We're back.
<v Speaker 1>Jeff Grubb, Janichoa. Let's get right into the headlines once again.
<v Speaker 1>Someone already brought Anthem back to life and has it
<v Speaker 1>running on a private server. Of course, this is from
<v Speaker 1>Kenneth Shepherd over at Kotaku. While ex BioWare, Blizzard or
<v Speaker 1>producer excuse me, x Biowear producer Mark Dura made a
<v Speaker 1>whole pitch about how EA could still salvage Anthem for
<v Speaker 1>relatively cheap. It does seem more likely that BioWare and
<v Speaker 1>its parent company aren't going to let the game die,
<v Speaker 1>or they are going to let it die a meaningless death,
<v Speaker 1>I should say. However, some fans are looking into how
<v Speaker 1>the game could remain playable despite the servers being shut down,
<v Speaker 1>and one person has already managed to get it running
<v Speaker 1>on a peer to peer server YouTuber and seven nine
<v Speaker 1>to nine has posted a video of the game running
<v Speaker 1>on local servers, though some of the online features such
<v Speaker 1>as looking at your online profile didn't work. And seven
<v Speaker 1>nine to nine was able to get the game running
<v Speaker 1>with two players in the same matchmaking space. According to
<v Speaker 1>the video description, this is all just for research and
<v Speaker 1>experiment and shouldn't be considered indicative of any kind of
<v Speaker 1>Anthem revival process.
<v Speaker 3>But that's how it always starts.
<v Speaker 1>People dinking around, seeing what they can do with these things,
<v Speaker 1>seeing like, hey, like how heavy is the server?
<v Speaker 3>Can I run this thing? Can I get everybody in here?
<v Speaker 1>And then someone of it eventually either picks up the
<v Speaker 1>torch or this person will be like, you know what,
<v Speaker 1>I can't actually see this through and we can rely
<v Speaker 1>on the community to do this. Right, we're talking last
<v Speaker 1>story indie games. We're sort of relying on for that
<v Speaker 1>novel to you being able to find games that we
<v Speaker 1>wouldn't experiences that just big corporations can't deliver on. Big
<v Speaker 1>corporations are also going to eventually abandon their live service games,
<v Speaker 1>and just like they abandoned all the stuff they do,
<v Speaker 1>and if we wanted to kind of continue to see
<v Speaker 1>support for it, it's always going to come from the community.
<v Speaker 1>So I expect Anthem to be back online in some
<v Speaker 1>form in some way within the next year or so.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, granted that I don't know, some corporate oversight from
<v Speaker 2>EA doesn't try and like punch this and bury this
<v Speaker 2>into the ground. I would love to check this out grub.
<v Speaker 2>I thought Anthem looked cool when it originally came out
<v Speaker 2>the Loop and I guess the gameplay wasn't enough to
<v Speaker 2>catch everyone, But I don't know, you all looked like.
<v Speaker 3>Iron Man and iron Man like iron Man. It can
<v Speaker 3>be cool.
<v Speaker 2>I also love this type of preservation grub, where you
<v Speaker 2>know a community whether or not they're really into the game.
<v Speaker 2>Sometimes I find it's they just want the challenge of
<v Speaker 2>saying they did it, which I'm all about. Another online
<v Speaker 2>community that has kept a game up and running is
<v Speaker 2>something that I think we should maybe explore one one
<v Speaker 2>one time this year is the old MMO ton Town.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, Yeah, it.
<v Speaker 1>Was like I think you've mentioned this server before. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I want to look into this.
<v Speaker 3>What is this? How did it work?
<v Speaker 2>It was a it's a Disney mmo and like that's it.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know anything else about the game other than
<v Speaker 2>that a very long time ago and the servers went down,
<v Speaker 2>but then because of a fervent community, they decided to
<v Speaker 2>like revive it and keep it going, and it's been
<v Speaker 2>going for quite a while now from my understanding.
<v Speaker 3>Uh, okay, yeah, I want to check that out.
<v Speaker 1>I do want to like look into more like uh
<v Speaker 1>community supported, community hosted servers and stuff like that. I
<v Speaker 1>want to play Fantasy Star online, Like, that's what I
<v Speaker 1>want to be doing. Stream grub Yeah, we should. We
<v Speaker 1>should just get that set up and just do it
<v Speaker 1>for real.
<v Speaker 2>At this point, I will just tape like joy cons
<v Speaker 2>to the side of my keyboard just to repucate that
<v Speaker 2>experience of that cool controller.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. That that's the dream right there. Yes, cast it
<v Speaker 3>to me.
<v Speaker 1>I all right, Yes, next story here, Nintendo might have
<v Speaker 1>to raise the price of the switch to at the
<v Speaker 1>worst time. This is from Lewis Parker at Kotaku. Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>maybe maybe about to follow in Sony and Microsoft's footsteps
<v Speaker 1>and announce the switch to price hike, according to a
<v Speaker 1>report from a video game consumer insight firm, Nico Partners.
<v Speaker 1>So this is where Daniel Achmad works. Although the new
<v Speaker 1>system is currently outselling the original Nintendo Switched by a
<v Speaker 1>wide margin in its first year, spiking RAM costs and
<v Speaker 1>ongoing tariffs could change all of that, and Nico Partners
<v Speaker 1>does predict that it is very likely that the switch
<v Speaker 1>to will get a price increase this year. It's we
<v Speaker 1>were talking about this ad nauseum now at this point,
<v Speaker 1>Jam but no one, no one sort of is like
<v Speaker 1>looking at the numbers and looking at the data and
<v Speaker 1>coming out going now they'll be able to get away
<v Speaker 1>with no price increase. That's that's gonna like push people
<v Speaker 1>away from a switch to that already seems like it's
<v Speaker 1>a tough bar, a tough sell.
<v Speaker 3>To the normal consumer.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone's like, no, like, yeah, those issues are real, and
<v Speaker 1>they might still have to raise the price.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think it is inevitable at this point, Grub.
<v Speaker 2>And if you are on the fence and you have
<v Speaker 2>the means to go purchase a switch too, I think
<v Speaker 2>you should just go and get it and not wait
<v Speaker 2>for some type of mid life refresh. I mean, we're
<v Speaker 2>just one year in and I know we reported on
<v Speaker 2>a story a couple of days ago about potential other
<v Speaker 2>switch to models that is not going to be the
<v Speaker 2>price that it's at right now, or even maybe one
<v Speaker 2>hundred dollars more. It's going to be significantly more expensive.
<v Speaker 2>So if you are at all curious about checking out,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, first party Nintendo games that have already
<v Speaker 2>come out, that are going to come out, you'd gotta
<v Speaker 2>hop on now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean the alternative is like, you're not gonna
<v Speaker 1>be buying a switch to for a couple of years,
<v Speaker 1>and I know a lot of people are gonna go, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that's fine with me. I'm happy with all the games
<v Speaker 1>I played on the Switch one, and I will wait
<v Speaker 1>until the Switch Too is compelling enough to.
<v Speaker 3>Justify whatever price it's at.
<v Speaker 1>I think there's going to be every day more people
<v Speaker 1>joining the crowd of Oh maybe I was going to
<v Speaker 1>get a switch to, but now I'm definitely just going
<v Speaker 1>to wait. And that's even before the price increase happens,
<v Speaker 1>just because game prices are still so high, and I
<v Speaker 1>feel like there's a fair number of people on the
<v Speaker 1>fence who are like and that software is not justified
<v Speaker 1>that price so far.
<v Speaker 3>So yes, this is like the worst possible time.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo's got to sort of be hitting the home runs
<v Speaker 1>and getting the wins to justify the switch to to
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people, and instead it's like, oh no,
<v Speaker 1>they're putting out other fires in the background that are
<v Speaker 1>forcing them to raise costs, and yeah, it's just I
<v Speaker 1>think it's going to make for a tough year now
<v Speaker 1>Smash Brothers comes along, Zelda, Mario. If these games come along,
<v Speaker 1>that changes the story slightly. But I still think that
<v Speaker 1>there's going to be a larger percentage than Nintendo is expecting.
<v Speaker 1>Especially the price goes up, that will say I am
<v Speaker 1>I'm holding off on getting this thing at all, and
<v Speaker 1>that does that matter enough to Nintendo for them to
<v Speaker 1>hesitate on raising the price?
<v Speaker 3>Jan I really don't think so.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't think it's enough and a grub, you know,
<v Speaker 2>for doing that mental calculus of like, well, Nintendo is
<v Speaker 2>only going to release so many games a year that
<v Speaker 2>they themselves that I don't know, if you have that
<v Speaker 2>hankering for something like Animal Crossing, there are more than
<v Speaker 2>enough alternatives at this point. If you have a hankering
<v Speaker 2>for like a Mario platformer, again, multiple alternatives at this
<v Speaker 2>point that you could get on Steam that go on
<v Speaker 2>sale that aren't going to remain eighty dollars throughout its
<v Speaker 2>whole lifetime of being sold on a console. I don't
<v Speaker 2>know if Nintendo is necessarily taking all of that into
<v Speaker 2>account though, just because they are just such an odd
<v Speaker 2>ball company with how they're run, but they're they're gonna
<v Speaker 2>have to raise the price. People are going to be upset,
<v Speaker 2>and they're going to be a fair amount of people
<v Speaker 2>Grub that also don't care.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, exactly, they just don't don't care, and in both directions, right,
<v Speaker 1>don't care and move on. Don't care. And like I,
<v Speaker 1>this is my gaming system. I'll pay whatever to get it.
<v Speaker 1>And if I was waiting or whatever, or they do
<v Speaker 1>drop an updated model that we talked about on previous shows,
<v Speaker 1>or you know, whether that's a switch to light that
<v Speaker 1>is cheaper or switch to old that's more expensive but
<v Speaker 1>has a better screen. Yeah, there are suckers among us.
<v Speaker 1>I'm one of them who will kind of keep showing
<v Speaker 1>up for these things and maybe buying multiple consoles. So
<v Speaker 1>although if it goes up a lot and then the
<v Speaker 1>old model is a lot more on top of that
<v Speaker 1>that what are we talking about? Six hundred, seven hundred dollars.
<v Speaker 1>That's gonna be real tough to justify.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and also Grub, I need them to just unlock
<v Speaker 2>the color on the joy cons all right. I don't
<v Speaker 2>want little accents. I want the whole dang thing.
<v Speaker 1>Or at least at least some sort of design on there,
<v Speaker 1>at least some sort of accent that makes.
<v Speaker 3>It feel like it splashes a little bit more.
<v Speaker 1>I just in my head when I was thinking about
<v Speaker 1>those new Joycon colors, I'm like, there's like a you know,
<v Speaker 1>there's a gap there between the joycn and the system
<v Speaker 1>where you can see a fair amount of the color.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like, no, it's like a millimeter wide, so
<v Speaker 1>you kind of have to be looking at the right
<v Speaker 1>angle and that's that's where the color is. It's crazy,
<v Speaker 1>all right. Continuing on here, we just talked about Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Switch to Rais in the price. Over at Microsoft, they
<v Speaker 1>are working on that new Halo game, Halo campaign redone
<v Speaker 1>Reimagined something like that, and they are going to be
<v Speaker 1>putting that on the PlayStation five, and they say this
<v Speaker 1>is opportunity for the series to grow obviously, but also
<v Speaker 1>reconnect the community. And Jen I would have like, does
<v Speaker 1>that sound right to you? Does it sound like Halo
<v Speaker 1>will have an opportunity to sort of make magic happen
<v Speaker 1>by being like, hey, we're back and we're everywhere, and
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna bring gamers together across platforms, and this is
<v Speaker 1>a chance for Halo to like hit hard and kind of.
<v Speaker 3>Get back some of its magic.
<v Speaker 2>I don't see it hitting hard. I do see it
<v Speaker 2>hitting though grub I think there it might. It may
<v Speaker 2>have been Sircana and Matt Piscatella talking about this of
<v Speaker 2>how like the most played PlayStation five games are some
<v Speaker 2>some of them being Microsoft games, like like Fortsa and whatnot.
<v Speaker 2>But seeing Halo, I think also for the sheer novelty
<v Speaker 2>of seeing Halo, which has always been associated with Xbox,
<v Speaker 2>always been associated with Microsoft, suddenly being on a PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>five is just going to be funny to see. It's
<v Speaker 2>funny to see the console warriors out there lose their shit.
<v Speaker 2>But also I don't know to see master Chief pop
<v Speaker 2>on and then be able to switch to Astropot in
<v Speaker 2>the next second. I do think this is going to
<v Speaker 2>be big, but I don't think this is going to
<v Speaker 2>capture the initial magic that Halo had.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I just think it's you know, this is the
<v Speaker 1>campaign evolved, right, so we're not even talking about the multiplayer. Obviously,
<v Speaker 1>this could set up a situation where it's like, then
<v Speaker 1>when they do have the next Halo multiplayer, thing that
<v Speaker 1>has this is primed the pump and got people excited.
<v Speaker 3>But Yeah, I think that the sort.
<v Speaker 1>Of reconnecting of the community that they talk about here
<v Speaker 1>when the Chris Scullian transcribed this interview, that only really
<v Speaker 1>happens when you get a certain set of circumstances all
<v Speaker 1>lining up perfectly at the same time.
<v Speaker 3>Like that.
<v Speaker 1>We we talked about the the Halo knockoff game that
<v Speaker 1>just got the campaign or the Split Splicate spl Splicate
<v Speaker 1>Too and then Splicate Arena or whatever they called it,
<v Speaker 1>that had a certain number of circumstances line up where
<v Speaker 1>people were jaded with Halo and in that moment, and
<v Speaker 1>there was a bunch of other big shooters that people
<v Speaker 1>have been playing for a while, but they were all
<v Speaker 1>in a lull and everyone's like, we want to go
<v Speaker 1>back to Halo, but Halo Infinite still bums us out,
<v Speaker 1>So where can we go? And this game stepped up.
<v Speaker 1>It was it was a couple of years old, the
<v Speaker 1>original split Gate when it when it had this popularity spike,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like, okay, just putting up Halo campaign and
<v Speaker 1>even making it good and having it deliver on all
<v Speaker 1>the promises that it possibly can, it just doesn't feel
<v Speaker 1>like it's going to be the thing that we'll be
<v Speaker 1>able to scratch that itch and provide an opportunity for
<v Speaker 1>people to go, oh.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I do love Halo.
<v Speaker 1>It's you know, if you like this already and this
<v Speaker 1>was not going to change that, I don't think.
<v Speaker 2>Greb Am I correct, and that this is only the
<v Speaker 2>campaign and not a multiplayer mode.
<v Speaker 3>I think, yes, it's only the campaign. It's called Campaign Evolved.
<v Speaker 1>I think to like just scream that yes, And I
<v Speaker 1>think the plan is to have a new Halo game
<v Speaker 1>with the focus on multiplayer being inside of that product
<v Speaker 1>as opposed to being a distracted having a distraction over here.
<v Speaker 1>They already have the master Chief collection for people who
<v Speaker 1>do want all the multiplayer modes. I think they don't
<v Speaker 1>want to buy for kate that audience. So yeah, it's
<v Speaker 1>Halo's in a weird spot in general, right. They're like,
<v Speaker 1>they do have the MCC still running, people are playing
<v Speaker 1>multiplayer over there, and then if you want to like
<v Speaker 1>do a new multiplayer thing, it can't be like Halo
<v Speaker 1>one again because that would kind of diffuse the excitement
<v Speaker 1>of MCC which is still going for them.
<v Speaker 3>It's weird, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, grub, I take it back. This is gonna infuriate
<v Speaker 2>a lot of people. I'm seeing folks say there's also
<v Speaker 2>no local split screen campaign where what the fuck? Those
<v Speaker 2>are some fond memories of like the original Halo trilogy.
<v Speaker 2>I think for a lot of people they do consider
<v Speaker 2>you know, they do think of master Chief as like
<v Speaker 2>the obviously the poster Boy or the Halo franchise. But
<v Speaker 2>the multiplayer is a major component, and I don't know
<v Speaker 2>where you're going to grow and build the community if
<v Speaker 2>the community can't play with each other.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's it's going to require them to sort of
<v Speaker 1>get that next Halo game right that that'll be all
<v Speaker 1>the focused there. And I just I don't know how
<v Speaker 1>that works either. I mean, a bunch of people when
<v Speaker 1>we started talking about this in chat saying kids aren't
<v Speaker 1>interested in Halo at all, they don't know what it is.
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, I suppose though, maybe that's what they do,
<v Speaker 1>is that they do a Halo event and call of
<v Speaker 1>Duty and see, maybe they do a Halo event with
<v Speaker 1>their partners over at Epic for Fortnite and all that stuff,
<v Speaker 1>and that leads back into the game at some point.
<v Speaker 3>Maybe, I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>Fortnite does seem like it has the power to be
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of that Smash Brothers.
<v Speaker 3>If it's like, oh, here's this Marth character.
<v Speaker 1>I wanted to eventually play a fire one because of that,
<v Speaker 1>because I remember.
<v Speaker 3>Him from Smash. Fortnite seems like it could do that.
<v Speaker 1>I just don't know if that's the really gonna work
<v Speaker 1>for Halo, which carries all this baggage.
<v Speaker 2>I think Masterchief's already in Fortnite.
<v Speaker 3>Right, I think so? Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>The problem though, Grub is that, I'm just gonna say it.
<v Speaker 2>I believe if they were to add like a Halo
<v Speaker 2>or if they add Halo like element or a Halo
<v Speaker 2>mode or whatever an event in Fortnite, it's going to
<v Speaker 2>be more fun to play in Fortnite than actual Hell yeah.
<v Speaker 1>That's right. That's a tough comparison. Huh A lot. You know,
<v Speaker 1>even if not everyone agrees with that, a lot of
<v Speaker 1>the audience you would be trying to woo would certainly
<v Speaker 1>agree with that.
<v Speaker 3>The people playing Fortnite.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, that probably doesn't work either. I really don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I'm glad it's not my job to figure it out. Okay.
<v Speaker 1>CD Project issues DMCA notice against Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven
<v Speaker 1>vr mod. This is from Sophie McAvoy at Games Industry
<v Speaker 1>dot biz, who writes basically the story here being this
<v Speaker 1>is not about being a VR mod or anything specific
<v Speaker 1>that the mod is doing other than the person who
<v Speaker 1>makes the mod has a Patreon and is making money
<v Speaker 1>from it. CD project reached out to the creator and said, hey,
<v Speaker 1>could you please make it free with optional donations or
<v Speaker 1>take it offline, And it sounds like they're still at
<v Speaker 1>an mpasse and that the VR mod creator is kind
<v Speaker 1>of being a little defiance still, so might end up having
<v Speaker 1>to just take it down. I've always been like pro
<v Speaker 1>the idea of people who create mods being able to
<v Speaker 1>make money off their work. I think that there is
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of different ways they can do that. Optional
<v Speaker 1>donations are very common, but I bet they don't really
<v Speaker 1>actually convert all that many people. There's premium versions of
<v Speaker 1>mods that people can get through patreons, and I guess
<v Speaker 1>that would get shut down in this case because the
<v Speaker 1>CD projects an entire argument is you can't make money
<v Speaker 1>from our stuff without permission. You have to get permission
<v Speaker 1>from us and go through us. And to my argument
<v Speaker 1>to that would always be, well, then make it super
<v Speaker 1>simple for people to go through you to make a
<v Speaker 1>mod so that they can make money from their work,
<v Speaker 1>because this has worked.
<v Speaker 3>To me, this is what may always mix games better.
<v Speaker 1>And I want more ways for them to be able
<v Speaker 1>to supplement their income income by doing this, even though
<v Speaker 1>the tradition obviously obviously has been most of these mods
<v Speaker 1>get put.
<v Speaker 3>Out there for free.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's it's a very slippery slope, especially when you
<v Speaker 2>kind of when you as a mod creator starts punching
<v Speaker 2>up and kind of anti purposely antagonizing CD Project Red.
<v Speaker 2>Where now, Dog, you did all this work, Maybe you
<v Speaker 2>could have broke her to a deal. Maybe don't maybe
<v Speaker 2>play ball a little bit, yep instead of kind of
<v Speaker 2>agitating CD Project Red. But you know, you pick the
<v Speaker 2>battles you you fight, So there there you go. I'm
<v Speaker 2>kind of surprised that, uh, Cyberpunk didn't already have some
<v Speaker 2>type of v R support and Dog you could have
<v Speaker 2>just you know, parlayed this into something get those Boku books.
<v Speaker 2>But I understand people's pride.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, I think that they're like, you're right there. It's
<v Speaker 1>like you got to find that middle ground. And I
<v Speaker 1>think like this is just so understood that if you
<v Speaker 1>have Yes, someone said a Patreon only mod a lot
<v Speaker 1>of companies are going to come after you. Now, Chris
<v Speaker 1>Christoph and Chat says, cd PR has no choice. It
<v Speaker 1>has to protect her copyright or lose it. That's not
<v Speaker 1>right for copyright. That that applies to trademark, which I'm
<v Speaker 1>sure that CD project read or City Project would argue
<v Speaker 1>some of their trademarks being violated there. So that's maybe
<v Speaker 1>still the case. But copyright is ironclad and you have
<v Speaker 1>that no matter what people do to your copy. I
<v Speaker 1>think that this the argument here from CD project that
<v Speaker 1>they want to shut this down because they absolutely must
<v Speaker 1>give their permission and nothing else can happen until they do.
<v Speaker 1>You know, there's always the fair use argument and that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>This stuff has just not been tested, so we don't
<v Speaker 1>really know like what a court would decide, what precedent
<v Speaker 1>would be set in a courtroom if this actually went
<v Speaker 1>to litigation. So everyone kind of has to sort of
<v Speaker 1>just posture, and that leaves people who make these mods
<v Speaker 1>in a situation where it's like we're just going to
<v Speaker 1>sort of peacock a little bit here and kind of
<v Speaker 1>look a little bit like, okay, chill out.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, all right, last couple of stories here, Yeah, last
<v Speaker 4>couple of Pirates of the care director says unreal engine
<v Speaker 4>makes films look too much like games.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Chris Scullion at VGC. Pirates of the
<v Speaker 1>Caribbean director Gore Verbinski has criticized the increasing use of
<v Speaker 1>unreal Engine in film production, saying it makes movies look
<v Speaker 1>too much like video games. Unreal engine is used frequently
<v Speaker 1>to create visual effects in today's movies and TV shows,
<v Speaker 1>with notable examples including the Matrix Resurrections, The Mandalorian, and
<v Speaker 1>the Fallout series. In an interview with But Why Though, Verbinski,
<v Speaker 1>who directed The Ring Rango, the first three Pirates of
<v Speaker 1>the Caribbean films, and the upcoming Good Luck, Have Fun,
<v Speaker 1>Don't Die, was asked why the look of visual effects
<v Speaker 1>and films have changed over the past fifteen years, and
<v Speaker 1>he said, yeah, we used to.
<v Speaker 3>Obviously, we used to have models, and we used.
<v Speaker 1>To have labor intensive people like spending every day painting
<v Speaker 1>each frame digitally, and now we have unreal engine, and
<v Speaker 1>unreal engine comes from the world of games, so it
<v Speaker 1>makes movies look a bit too Gamy.
<v Speaker 3>Jane, do do you agree with this? I think there's
<v Speaker 3>definitely something to it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think Gore is on the right track. It
<v Speaker 2>turns out Gore knows what he's talking about. Yeah, there
<v Speaker 2>are a lot of movies grub where you will kind
<v Speaker 2>of be taken out of the film because some element
<v Speaker 2>will be poorly implemented CGI. I know that the volume
<v Speaker 2>was really cool when they initially introduced it, but you
<v Speaker 2>can definitely tell during some parts of The Mandalorian where
<v Speaker 2>it's like, okay, all right, we're still in this little
<v Speaker 2>room now, huh. Using it on a situation situational basis,
<v Speaker 2>totally do it. But to kind of use it as
<v Speaker 2>like your main thing for a good chunk of the show,
<v Speaker 2>it's a little bit disappointing, and then you can start
<v Speaker 2>to see the seams of everything. And I don't know, Greb,
<v Speaker 2>I was just watching Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme last night,
<v Speaker 2>and Wes Anderson's a little freak parentheses positive that really
<v Speaker 2>enjoys using practical sets and miniatures and everything, and I
<v Speaker 2>think that is missing from a lot of big blockbuster films.
<v Speaker 2>The homie ABC points out that, you know, watching Avatar three,
<v Speaker 2>certain parts of it do look like a video game
<v Speaker 2>cut scene. And I know that it is ostensibly a
<v Speaker 2>CGI movie, but yeah, you know there, I don't want
<v Speaker 2>to be taken out of it because I start noticing
<v Speaker 2>little bits and pieces of like that looks like a
<v Speaker 2>video game, or that doesn't look as polished as like
<v Speaker 2>a triple A video game, you know, because a game
<v Speaker 2>like Horizon zero done looks amazing. But at the same time,
<v Speaker 2>I don't want to see some of that eke over
<v Speaker 2>into a movie unless I don't know it is a
<v Speaker 2>Horizon movie.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And like even the wh when it all looks cheap,
<v Speaker 1>when the traditional models look cheap and and CGI look
<v Speaker 1>cheap versus this looking cheap, I think this one just
<v Speaker 1>is the most solace of it, where it's kind of
<v Speaker 1>fun to see, like you know, stop motion skeletons in
<v Speaker 1>a movie and they're kind of moving all jerky. It's like, ah,
<v Speaker 1>you know what, that's amazing. I can see the craft
<v Speaker 1>and it does take me out, but it takes me
<v Speaker 1>out to a bunch of people working really hard on
<v Speaker 1>a studio lot to create something fun as opposed to
<v Speaker 1>it being dragged and dropped from software, and it just
<v Speaker 1>doesn't feel as human at the end of the day.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, there's just less magic even to the magic
<v Speaker 1>that they're creating.
<v Speaker 2>With this grubb breaking news story from Jason Schreier. I'll
<v Speaker 2>just read Jason's post here breaking. UBI Soft is canceling
<v Speaker 2>the Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake in other
<v Speaker 2>games for unannounced one mobile. The company says it is
<v Speaker 2>also delaying seven games, including an unannounced project believed to
<v Speaker 2>be a Black Flag remake, as part of a larger restructuring.
<v Speaker 1>Holy moly, all right, good, good great, jan Okay, so
<v Speaker 1>let's see here that Prince of Persia Sants Thambri make
<v Speaker 1>was supposed to be out any time.
<v Speaker 2>Now?
<v Speaker 3>Is there more video?
<v Speaker 2>Chris Scullion also is reporting on it. Let me just
<v Speaker 2>go scan through it grub. Yeah there's anything else? Well, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it's on Video Games Chronicle YEP, major organizational operational in
<v Speaker 2>portfolio reset, the company's stating and also conducted a thorough
<v Speaker 2>review of its content pipeline.
<v Speaker 3>This They've done this a bunch of times before.
<v Speaker 1>They've thoroughly reviewed their content pipeline multiple times. They've delayed
<v Speaker 1>all of their games at least twice before doing this again.
<v Speaker 1>Now this is uh, it sounds like this is all
<v Speaker 1>happening outside of that, you know, the three game triumpherant
<v Speaker 1>that is supported by tencent right, so that's a far
<v Speaker 1>cry ghost recon Assassin's Creed.
<v Speaker 3>I always have to remember each time I.
<v Speaker 1>Say that, and then it sounds like all of this
<v Speaker 1>is everything else left over at.
<v Speaker 3>The old You be soft oof.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, this doesn't feel super good, especially with all
<v Speaker 2>the stories that we've had over the last couple of
<v Speaker 2>weeks of like, oh, Prince of Persia got raided, Prince
<v Speaker 2>of Persia, it's coming soon, and the kind of like
<v Speaker 2>positive sentiment with that remake coming. This is kind of
<v Speaker 2>wild for that to get canned potentially this far into
<v Speaker 2>the remake.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Like again, like this thing was rumored to be
<v Speaker 1>out any day now, Like it was actually rumored to
<v Speaker 1>be out a couple of days ago, and I think
<v Speaker 1>that those dates were actually accurate at one point.
<v Speaker 3>So what the hell? I mean they must think that
<v Speaker 3>it's bad And but then.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, what what is the situation that you be soft
<v Speaker 1>as in where they don't want to put out a
<v Speaker 1>bad game to recoup some costs, so they just completely score.
<v Speaker 1>What does that say about how they are trying to
<v Speaker 1>present themselves. That sounds to me like they do not
<v Speaker 1>want any dings in their armor so that they can
<v Speaker 1>maybe sell off the rest of these assets to whoever
<v Speaker 1>is going to show up and clean up.
<v Speaker 3>I can't imagine who would want to do that. It's
<v Speaker 3>not going to be like the Googles of the world anymore.
<v Speaker 2>No, because I ultimately see this as like devaluing the company.
<v Speaker 2>Grub and right. This is just me, our armchair business
<v Speaker 2>person here, and I don't know the inner workings, but
<v Speaker 2>seeing a company cancel six games in delaying seven doesn't
<v Speaker 2>feel like it is a good sign of the company's
<v Speaker 2>overall health, let alone management. And I know that we've
<v Speaker 2>known that Youbisoft is a poorly managed company because the
<v Speaker 2>Gimont family is terrible at running a business. So what
<v Speaker 2>the fuck is going on? What do they expect to happen?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah?
<v Speaker 1>Right, yes, there probably will be some write offs here,
<v Speaker 1>some tax write offs, and then they are probably I mean,
<v Speaker 1>what I'm expecting now is a bloodmath, like I'm expecting
<v Speaker 1>you be soft to be falling apart, like you know,
<v Speaker 1>maybe this is a little bit more color to that
<v Speaker 1>story about Julian Garrity leaving the division developer Massive to
<v Speaker 1>go work over at EA instead. A week after saying, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>that game is going to be huge. Well he got
<v Speaker 1>out of there really quickly after that, and maybe he
<v Speaker 1>saw this may maybe he was informed, Hey, some the
<v Speaker 1>acts is going to be coming down here pretty soon.
<v Speaker 2>I just saw that. Schreyer also posted a follow up
<v Speaker 2>post to that original one we read Grub, and Jason says,
<v Speaker 2>for the last few weeks, rumors have been circulating that
<v Speaker 2>Prince of Persia Sense of Time was completed and would
<v Speaker 2>be released on January sixteenth. Like you just said, Grub,
<v Speaker 2>Jason continues, In reality, you be Soft was not happy
<v Speaker 2>with the state of the game and decided to cancel
<v Speaker 2>it as part of a massive reorganization. Uh hi, Mike Minatti.
<v Speaker 2>My question that I post to Grub was if you
<v Speaker 2>are Ubisoft and you're kind of hadging your bets on
<v Speaker 2>this Prince of Persia remake, in Prince of Persia is
<v Speaker 2>like a valuable tool in your arsenal of ip, wouldn't
<v Speaker 2>you want to go over it with a fine tooth
<v Speaker 2>comb way before it gets this close to the finish line?
<v Speaker 3>Well, who knows? They see this whole thing has been weird.
<v Speaker 5>I mean, they showed us a version of this game
<v Speaker 5>way back when made by a different studio that when
<v Speaker 5>we saw it, everybody hated it, and so then that
<v Speaker 5>version was canceled. Is technically the second time this game
<v Speaker 5>has been canceled.
<v Speaker 3>Now, really, what you think about it?
<v Speaker 5>No, I don't think they I don't think they have
<v Speaker 5>any fine tooth combs over there.
<v Speaker 3>I think all of their.
<v Speaker 5>Combs are huge and just filled with gaps and missing
<v Speaker 5>teeth and all sorts of shit and crud get through them.
<v Speaker 3>But boy, yeah, I mean like at.
<v Speaker 5>A certain point if if you start this project two
<v Speaker 5>times and both times it doesn't mean your expectations.
<v Speaker 3>Whose fault is that? Uh?
<v Speaker 5>And it's yeah, it's an embarrassment. It's an embarrassment for
<v Speaker 5>you and the company Ubisoft is in. You know, they've
<v Speaker 5>been in such a weird state with canceling projects and
<v Speaker 5>you and their games that actually seem pretty good, like
<v Speaker 5>like Outlaws, the the or the you know the other
<v Speaker 5>princ of perject games we've had. Somehow aren't able to
<v Speaker 5>help them find the right audiences. They don't seem to
<v Speaker 5>get enough uh, get enough advertising or just I don't
<v Speaker 5>know what it is, but they don't. They don't get
<v Speaker 5>the love that they do deserve. While everything still just
<v Speaker 5>seems to be about assassins, create assesssens creed, assassin's creed.
<v Speaker 5>I'm back all right, the doing it for you, don't worry, buddy,
<v Speaker 5>you got to man.
<v Speaker 3>I appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>The power of friendship saved him.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it, Mike. All right, let
<v Speaker 3>me get this camera back on.
<v Speaker 5>All right.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know internet went out.
<v Speaker 1>Completely, but just the internet this time, so at least
<v Speaker 1>the power stayed up.
<v Speaker 3>Uh Okay.
<v Speaker 1>At first I was like, oh, Jane got disconnected and
<v Speaker 1>I sat there for ten seconds and then nothing else
<v Speaker 1>will work. All right, Thanks Mike for stepping I appreciate that. Yeah, okay,
<v Speaker 1>I guess where'd you guys kind of leave off with
<v Speaker 1>you be soft?
<v Speaker 3>Now? Yeah, no problem, he's dying.
<v Speaker 2>We had just left off where Mike mentioning that this
<v Speaker 2>is the second time this remake has been canceled. I
<v Speaker 2>was just asking, like, if you were you be Soft,
<v Speaker 2>wouldn't you want to comb through this game and like
<v Speaker 2>make sure every minute detail was good before it gets
<v Speaker 2>this close to the finish line. And folks in chatter
<v Speaker 2>are mentioning rightfully, so it's a PS two game that
<v Speaker 2>they're trying to remake and it's a good PS two game.
<v Speaker 2>I can't imagine there is that many things that you
<v Speaker 2>have to like readjust other than I don't know, graphics.
<v Speaker 2>I'm very curious to see what parts of this remake
<v Speaker 2>or remaster weren't hitting with you be soft.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, one of the rumors was it was
<v Speaker 1>like going to uh, they were going to have the
<v Speaker 1>character that you escort be more capable, and she was
<v Speaker 1>going to be more like survivable. She would not be
<v Speaker 1>in situations where if you did not do everything for her,
<v Speaker 1>she will certainly die. And so okay, well that sounds
<v Speaker 1>like a smart edit and it so well, you know,
<v Speaker 1>I doubt that was the problem. It must just be
<v Speaker 1>the fundamentals here are off where the game doesn't look
<v Speaker 1>nice and they maybe doesn't play as well. Maybe it
<v Speaker 1>was a Tony OKX pro Skater five situation and or
<v Speaker 1>the Tony OX pro Skater remake from Robo Moto whoever
<v Speaker 1>that studio was, where it's like, this just feels like
<v Speaker 1>a ghost of itself, and when we put it out there,
<v Speaker 1>there's just this game doesn't stand to make us that
<v Speaker 1>much money, and if we put it out there, it's
<v Speaker 1>only gonna turn our sharp or reputation further so that
<v Speaker 1>when prospective buyers come along and they google us, they're
<v Speaker 1>going to see a bunch of gamers are mad at
<v Speaker 1>them about not being able to remake a PS two game.
<v Speaker 1>This gets rid of that risk, but only if your
<v Speaker 1>biggest concern right.
<v Speaker 3>Now is selling selling things off.
<v Speaker 1>At least in my opinion, maybe there's some other explanation,
<v Speaker 1>but that's where my mind goes.
<v Speaker 2>There's an additional story coming out of all of this
<v Speaker 2>scrub that Ubisoft is asking all of their staff to
<v Speaker 2>return to office full time to quote unquote boost a
<v Speaker 2>collective performance for Triple A.
<v Speaker 1>The first step in layoffs, Yes, the first step in
<v Speaker 1>layoffs is get him to lay off lay themselves off
<v Speaker 1>voluntarily by saying I'm not going to return.
<v Speaker 3>To the office. Yep, that's this is all.
<v Speaker 1>This is all starting to make a lot of sense,
<v Speaker 1>and it's the future of Ubisoft that isn't part of that.
<v Speaker 1>That ten cent spin off is in the gutter and
<v Speaker 1>probably not going to be coming back from this in
<v Speaker 1>in any real way.
<v Speaker 2>O God, grub I don't know. I'm just thinking of
<v Speaker 2>Earl at Hessence Creed and the fond memories with that
<v Speaker 2>Friends of Persia, that Prince of Persia, Sands of Time trilogy.
<v Speaker 2>I still really really like Warrior Within, not just because
<v Speaker 2>of the God Smack song. But we're never going to
<v Speaker 2>see a ray Man again, are we? What we're never
<v Speaker 2>gonna see be odd good at Evil too.
<v Speaker 1>No, no, no, no, that's all of those have to be,
<v Speaker 1>you know. But I think all of those were in
<v Speaker 1>the works in one way or the other. All of
<v Speaker 1>them have to be part of these cancelations and delays.
<v Speaker 1>So it was like seven games delayed in four games,
<v Speaker 1>five games canceled.
<v Speaker 2>I believe six games in total, including the Prince of Persia.
<v Speaker 3>All right, then, yeah, that's Graham is right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, six canceled, seven delayed.
<v Speaker 1>Six Cancelednay, okay, yep. Well, we'll kind of keep tracking
<v Speaker 1>this story. I bet there will be more fallout from
<v Speaker 1>it here pretty soon, and it'll be easier to cover
<v Speaker 1>it when it doesn't happen in the in the middle
<v Speaker 1>of the show when.
<v Speaker 3>I'm getting kicked off by my ISP.
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's see here, I'm just seeing the calculus
<v Speaker 2>of the world grub six, six camps, seven delayed.
<v Speaker 1>Oh god, yes, forlornly doing the six to seven hand
<v Speaker 1>motion because I'm miserable.
<v Speaker 2>And this is all I have and the sands of
<v Speaker 2>time are slipping through my fingers.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, oh boy, Okay, let's see here. Let's move on.
<v Speaker 1>We have no pull question from last week. There was
<v Speaker 1>no show on Monday, and we're coming off the Bomb
<v Speaker 1>twelve from last week. But we have a new pole question.
<v Speaker 1>Let's get to that. Let's do Let's do one here
<v Speaker 1>about Donkey Kong Country Returns. Have you played Donkey Kong
<v Speaker 1>Country Returns so far? Like, have you played that game
<v Speaker 1>up to this point?
<v Speaker 3>Yes? Or no? Just kind of curious. We'll see what
<v Speaker 3>the results are on that one.
<v Speaker 5>Uh.
<v Speaker 3>With that out of the way, we'll get the results.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said on Giant Bomb Games Mornings, here's what
<v Speaker 1>we have happening on the website. We're gonna be doing
<v Speaker 1>Blake Club today, right, Jane.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, sir, it is a finally your time grub to
<v Speaker 2>participate in the Blightning round and it's at least it.
<v Speaker 1>Doesn't seem like it's gonna be that bad. So at
<v Speaker 1>least I'm feeling kind of under the weather, so it
<v Speaker 1>can really hurt me. I'm especially vulnerable right now, that
<v Speaker 1>sounds wonderful.
<v Speaker 2>You're you've already assumed, you've already absorbed the initial impact
<v Speaker 2>of the costume and how you could potentially harm you.
<v Speaker 2>Grub Calls is just you.
<v Speaker 3>Now, Yeah, we are one and the same I in
<v Speaker 3>grub cales.
<v Speaker 1>All right, well, well let's see. So, yeah, that's happening.
<v Speaker 1>We'll have you know, a voicemail dump truck this week.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna have some you know, some quick looks here
<v Speaker 1>or there, getting ready either for this week or for
<v Speaker 1>next week. We'll be back with we're actually gonna do
<v Speaker 1>for upf slot. We're going to be doing our Fantasy
<v Speaker 1>Critic draft, so tune in for that. A lot of
<v Speaker 1>fun stuff happening this week.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, yes, yes, all right. With that out of the way,
<v Speaker 3>we should wrap things up.
<v Speaker 1>Jana Chow, thank you so much for spinning today talk
<v Speaker 1>with me about video games.
<v Speaker 3>Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>It's the only way to start a Wednesday grub.
<v Speaker 1>And thank you all for watching and listening. You are
<v Speaker 1>the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a
<v Speaker 1>good one, take care
<v Speaker 3>Of yourself, and goodbye to
