We'll have to replay that portion, maybe because you could tell both of them knew this was coming, and they had to have a conversation where they had to pretend like they didn't know this was coming down the pike, and so they kind of danced around it and they kind of played foot see with it, but they didn't directly acknowledge reality. Because she was the first one to use the word sexual assault, and she let the cat out of the bag as to what was coming the moment she said that. This is merely my opinion is that this alleged assault happened between Swallwell and the staff are going back to what twenty nine team for employment in his office. Yeah, she worked on his presidential campaign and then worked in his office going back to twenty nineteen, and then there was another incident in twenty twenty four. Okay, So whatever happened between the two of them happened, and this woman told a handful of people but never went public. Clearly, she told enough people to where it ended up in the oppo research report of another candidate. We then found out that a woman who is an attorney who ran for Congress herself from Orange County, who is a graduate of UCI Law School, which is where Katie Porter taught. Katie Porter, spoke at the graduation. I think she did some kind of internship for UCI in Washington, DC, and then endorsed Katie Porter for US Senate and was a donor and there's pictures of the two of them on the internet. She was the ring leader at bringing these women out. And it's not just this one, but there are other women and I have read as many as double digits. Oh, we're going to be coming forward with some allegation.

Calderon, who had endorsed Swalwell, has called for him to drop out and resign. And I'm sure as this has only been breaking. Well and Antonio via Ragoso we just confirmed we'll be here at forty five minutes past the hour, and he is going to react to these allegations against Eric Swalwell. Should we go back to the San Francisco Chronicle story. Let's do that, all right. This is from the story that broke. You can read it at SF Chronicle dot com. It is incredible reporting and they've got a lot to back this up on. They're not naming the staffer because it's their policy not to name the victims of sexual assault. The former staffer began working for Swalwell during his short lived presidential campaign in twenty nineteen, following her college graduation. She was then hired into his district office in July after he dropped out of the race. She said, Swalwell, who was thirty eight at the time, began messaging her on Snapchat. If you don't know, Snapchat is the app where when you send someone a picture of the pictures disappear. The messages were initially welcome, the woman said. Alone in a new community across the country from where she grew up. She said she felt encouraged by his friendly outreach and was flattered that he was paying attention to her.

Speaker 1: They call this grooming. And before we get too deep into this, I know a lot of you are thinking, Okay, what is this woman doing getting obliterated with her boss? What in the world is wrong with her? And here's the reality. I'm not defending binge drinking. I'm not defending that sort of behavior. However, that is one of those professions where alcoholism is really high because think about it. You are three thousand miles away from your family. You are in a city where you're expected to go to receptions and fundraisers and events on a nightly basis. Where what do they serve at these things? They serve appetizers. You get your pigs in a blanket, you get your fried wan cons, you get your pizza pockets, you get your shrimp on a stick, those sorts of things. And they have open bars and you bounce from one to the next, to the next, to the next to the next. And that is where you socialize with your peers. That is where you meet your future bosses, that is where you build your social network. Everything in that city revolves around alcohol. They're not doing this in the morning, hopping from Starbucks to Starbucks. They're doing it at night, and they're hopping from reception to reception. And if you are I don't know, the Peach Growers Association, and you're trying to get people who sit on the agriculture committee to come meet with your people and have a drink with your people, how do you get them there? You have the best venue, You offer an open bar, and you offer the best food. And many of these people, the ones I know who live there, they don't cook when they're in Washington, DC, especially if you're an elected you're there three days a week or four days a week. Your bread's gonna grow mold, your milk's gonna go bad. There's no point in buying food that you know is just gonna spoil. So what they frequently do is they turn these receptions into an expectation of where they're going to get their dinner. And if you're the staffer that has caught the eye of the boss, the boss gets the invitations to all of these things. If they bring you to these things, man, you have the golden ticket. And if the boss has thrown him back and he's a big guy. If he's thrown him back, then you're keeping up with him. And big guys can drink a lot more booze than little girls. And I'm not a bit surprised that she took him up on the offer to go to these events, and I'm not a bit surprised that he drank her under the table. Anyway, we can move on with the article.

I commend the brave former staffer who came forward with their story about Eric Swawell speaking out as never easy and her account must be taken seriously. The woman had been drinking before the gathering, she said, and Swalwell bought her more alcohol. When she arrived, she said she became so inebriated that she doesn't remember how she left the restaurant, only that she woke up the next morning in Swalwell's hotel bed naked. She also was a brief recollection of him sucking her toes, which she said disgusted her.

She woke up and saw him sucking her toes, and then he sent her off to work and went off hiking with constituents. Swalwell posted photos from the hike on his official Facebook page later that day. Great weather, beautiful scenery, and a great discussion, he wrote. There appeared to be two Swalwells, the woman said, the one on Snapchat and the one in real life. She said she started to feel the same about herself as she tried to compartmentalize what had happened between them.

In April of twenty twenty four, the former staffer attended an award ceremony in New York hosted by a nonprofit organization. Swalwell was being honored alongside actors and athletes. What the hell nonprofit was this?

According to footage of the event, oh Boy, the former staffer said she met up with Swalwell before the event to discuss her career. Because it went well, she decided to meet him again after the event for a drink, which she had hoped would be a chance to prove to him that she should be taken seriously. Even though he had hurt me in the past. I felt like he was someone I could trust because we shared this secret together. It pulled me closer to him.

I woke up during it and even told him to stop at one point. The woman wrote to a friend three days later in a text message, which the Chronicle reviewed, I just feel icky and gross, like I want to submerge myself.

He was sending messages like we just had a romantic encounter. Where he knows what he's doing, she wrote to her friend. These are all the text messages that she said to her friend in twenty twenty four that were verified by the Chronicle. He was gaslighting me into thinking it was consensual, the woman said. She asked Swallwell if it was possible that he Oh, boy, I don't know.

And by the way, this is all, this is all years and years and years after Weinstein and me Too and everything else, and women still are afraid to come forward.

So if you work in Democratic Party politics and you hate Donald Trump, he was one of the ones that was on TV every night trying to impeach him. Your proximity to Eric Swalwell gave you cachet. So if you work for him and you have no communication with him, your cachet goes away. And in that world, I'm sure she was a hot commodity at that time due to her proximity to him.

I knew any police investigation would be made public, and I was still protecting myself and in some ways him. The Chronicle spoke to her then boyfriend, who said that when she told him about the experience, he responded that it sounded like she was describing an assault. At the end of that day, he said she did not want to report that, and I respected that decision. The woman said she got pregnancy and STD tests and told the physician's assistant who administered them what happened. The Chronicle reviewed the office summary of her visit, which took place a week after the alleged assault, and included a throat swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea, as well as screenings for HIV and syphilis.

Batra said he agreed, and that they drove to a bar he spent. They spent little time at the gathering, talking to Swalwell, who was occupied and talking with others. Botra said he left after about an hour and a half because he was tired and had to get back to Jersey. That would have been around eleven thirty when the woman said she met up with Swalwell.
