<v Speaker 2>was it again, Todd Christopher? That's right in the hotline days,
<v Speaker 2>we were talking about the old wrestling like, well you know, okay,
<v Speaker 2>so right around nineteen ninety seven and the whole wrestling
<v Speaker 2>internet emergen. No, yeah, no, there were all these like
<v Speaker 2>lines that were commondeered or stolen by like these group
<v Speaker 2>of people. I think I'm trying to remember what it
<v Speaker 2>was called, but like everybody had like hotlines and they
<v Speaker 2>were reporting whatever I think the wrestling observer was reporting.
<v Speaker 2>And I just remember because there was such a thirst
<v Speaker 2>for information after the screw job, right, we were all like,
<v Speaker 2>what the hell happened here? Like something happened if we
<v Speaker 2>need to know more? And like I just remember, right
<v Speaker 2>around that time, I somehow discovered those and I even
<v Speaker 2>started one myself, and that's where I was in time
<v Speaker 2>check were we basically had this conversation.
<v Speaker 1>Is this is my broken road equipment. So the screens
<v Speaker 1>all messed up. But anyway, I did like the the
<v Speaker 1>e FED. Did you do any of those where you
<v Speaker 1>would like it'd be like Email Wrestling Federation. You have
<v Speaker 1>a name and you cut your promos, but write them out. No,
<v Speaker 1>And I was Brett Matthews with the Z that was
<v Speaker 1>my character. Oh my, I never did that same thing
<v Speaker 1>as you because your middle name is mine's Brett. So
<v Speaker 1>Brett Matthews my first and Brett Matthew we did the
<v Speaker 1>same thing.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, yes, I call you the piece. Wait a minute, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>So since we're going through all this, you guys obviously
<v Speaker 2>backyard wrestled at some point.
<v Speaker 1>I was also Brett Matthews. I was the owner and
<v Speaker 1>founder of World Tramp Pros. He is more proud of
<v Speaker 1>his backyard career than his like, literally, to this moment.
<v Speaker 2>Bro, I'm nostalgic about my backyard career. But you'll really pop.
<v Speaker 2>You know who I was. I was freaking. I was
<v Speaker 2>straight up no, you know, I was straight up triple
<v Speaker 2>h Okay, I just played triple ah freaking And we
<v Speaker 2>took it seriously. Man. We like we'd set up the
<v Speaker 2>music and everything, and we kind of choreographed the matches.
<v Speaker 2>It was wild but I never back out wrestled. Oh
<v Speaker 2>give me a break. Never.
<v Speaker 3>No, I like I was such a wrestling nerd. I
<v Speaker 3>saw some interview with Brett Hart, like so early on
<v Speaker 3>when he's like, that's not real wrestling. You know, you
<v Speaker 3>go to good train and go to school, commit yourself
<v Speaker 3>to sports.
<v Speaker 2>That's what I did. Well, that's the funny thing. So
<v Speaker 2>my mom saw a tape of what we were doing
<v Speaker 2>and she was like, oh, hell no. And right away
<v Speaker 2>she's like, I'm gonna pay for your wrestling school. She
<v Speaker 2>didn't want me to. Well, she's all us like falling
<v Speaker 2>off the ladders.
<v Speaker 3>I think I feel like you had this weird perception.
<v Speaker 3>People thought you were like this bodybuild their meathead and
<v Speaker 3>like we weren't a wrestling guy. It couldn't be more opposite.
<v Speaker 3>And I feel like people don't realize. Even to this day,
<v Speaker 3>I feel like people that don't know you don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It still drives me crazy. And this guy came from
<v Speaker 2>body though, isn't.
<v Speaker 1>Like seeing if I you at like Venice gold Ye
<v Speaker 1>tried this business a kid.
<v Speaker 2>But you guys know how that's because the Body guys
<v Speaker 2>before me kind of laid that out right. There was anception,
<v Speaker 2>preconceived conception, like the Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger. All those
<v Speaker 2>guys were just gifted with bodies, but they was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>they didn't care or love wrestling all that much. But
<v Speaker 2>I think part of it is my fault because like
<v Speaker 2>after I saw that, that's the way I was kind
<v Speaker 2>of perceived, you know what I mean. Once I was
<v Speaker 2>entering the business, obviously, I kind of like started to
<v Speaker 2>kind of push some of that stuff. I said I
<v Speaker 2>was a former mister Olympia because I didn't, you know,
<v Speaker 2>I was like the wrestling fans or markets smart, right, Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>But then so it ended up ended up bothering me though,
<v Speaker 2>because a lot of people really took that and bought
<v Speaker 2>into him, and then they just automatically assumed like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>he just came into wrestling. He's just got a great build,
<v Speaker 2>and like it's the complete opposite. Like I love man,
<v Speaker 2>It's the only thing I ever really loved and was
<v Speaker 2>passionate about, and like it was the only reason I
<v Speaker 2>ever even started working out, Like it just seemed like
<v Speaker 2>the logical first step when you're like fourteen years old.
<v Speaker 2>He's like, all right, I'll go.
<v Speaker 1>To so all right, we did the backyard wrestle we
<v Speaker 1>did the hotlines. You also collected or played.
<v Speaker 2>With figures, right, Oh yeah, oh that's why we're here.
<v Speaker 1>That's why we're here. That's what the guy you sparked his.
<v Speaker 4>I remember one time you show me this picture of
<v Speaker 4>you and Vince when you were a kid.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, that was from So that was a whole
<v Speaker 2>other thing, just real quick on that. So my friend
<v Speaker 2>this was in uh, let's see where. It was nineteen
<v Speaker 2>ninety six, right, and there was the house show after
<v Speaker 2>WrestleMania twelve, and I went down with my friend. This
<v Speaker 2>was my first wrestling event. It was h the Attitude
<v Speaker 2>Adjustment Tour Shaw Michael Jsus Vader and so one of
<v Speaker 2>my buddies found this secret door that leads backstage, and like,
<v Speaker 2>like I was just sitting at my seat watching the
<v Speaker 2>show and he was gone for a while. He comes
<v Speaker 2>back and he is super hyped. He's going crazy, like
<v Speaker 2>thirteen fourteen something like that, and like he's telling me
<v Speaker 2>he just fucking went down there. He was backstage. Yeah, yeah, YadA,
<v Speaker 2>And I'm like, no way, So you know, of course
<v Speaker 2>we're going to go back and yeah, he showed me
<v Speaker 2>the door. We went down this service elevator. We got
<v Speaker 2>back and like the first two guys I see in
<v Speaker 2>the distance are Shawn Michael and Breadth the hit Man
<v Speaker 2>Heart Holy, and I literally bro I almost go into
<v Speaker 2>a full sprint. My friend has to run. My friend
<v Speaker 2>freaking grabs me like that, don't relax, Thank god he did.
<v Speaker 2>Like I don't even know what the hell I was thinking.
<v Speaker 2>Like I always remember it too, because it was like
<v Speaker 2>I couldn't believe it. I was me like I was
<v Speaker 2>like I couldn't believe that they were in such close
<v Speaker 2>proximity first of all, but then also like I was
<v Speaker 2>trying to talk to Sean and he was just he
<v Speaker 2>was just all over his girlfriend, Like you know, we
<v Speaker 2>were bare leaving there, man, Like you know what I mean.
<v Speaker 2>But it didn't matter, you know. I'm like, oh, he's
<v Speaker 2>the fucking man. Yeah, like, yep, that's fucking And the
<v Speaker 2>picture Evince, oh you because we this now became a thing,
<v Speaker 2>and get these kids the funk out of here? Oh yeah,
<v Speaker 2>are you kidd even Dave Hebner, Dave Hebner, It became comical. Man.
<v Speaker 2>Every time we would go back there, As soon as
<v Speaker 2>Dave Hebner would spot us, we would run because he
<v Speaker 2>would get he would kick us out, bro and it
<v Speaker 2>became a regular thing. And so I basically met and
<v Speaker 2>got pictured there because like we went backstage with that one,
<v Speaker 2>and then every time they come out, we do the
<v Speaker 2>same thing, and you know, we would get kicked out eventually,
<v Speaker 2>but I'd be like a fresh start every time you
<v Speaker 2>went to that. You would try to do this pretty much,
<v Speaker 2>but were smart enough. His time went on, and when
<v Speaker 2>you know, his time went on, we realized, oh, maybe
<v Speaker 2>don't go on wrestling t shirts. That way you can
<v Speaker 2>get spotted to. So we started dressing more sophistically. But
<v Speaker 2>then also here was the thing, you know, how we
<v Speaker 2>got the picture events, So to avoid Dave Hebner, we
<v Speaker 2>started to avoid David. We started waiting in the loading
<v Speaker 2>dock and that's where I got a lot of the pictures.
<v Speaker 2>I got a picture of events there I got. I
<v Speaker 2>eventually got a picture with Sean there, which was hilarious.
<v Speaker 2>If I ever show you guys, it's right around January
<v Speaker 2>ninety eight when he's going through all this stuff. Man
<v Speaker 2>like he looks so angry.
<v Speaker 3>Oh my god, oh Dallas told me storted he's taking
<v Speaker 3>out backstage when he was a kid, and he must
<v Speaker 3>have just been so annoying and he was around Seing
<v Speaker 3>and Sean.
<v Speaker 1>Went, who's fucking kid is this?
<v Speaker 2>Wow? Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>So yeah that was fun, like surreal years later that
<v Speaker 3>you're like wrestle Shawing on pay per view're like, oh yeah, man, like,
<v Speaker 3>I mean you're still only like what twenty two and
<v Speaker 3>then happened?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I was so young at that point. It was
<v Speaker 2>really weird and it was overwhelming, man like because you guys,
<v Speaker 2>you know, you guys came up with just a couple
<v Speaker 2>of years after me, but like people don't understand, like
<v Speaker 2>because I looked so mature, but I was really just
<v Speaker 2>such a kid, right and sharing a locker room with
<v Speaker 2>all these grown men that you grew up looking up to,
<v Speaker 2>and it was very intimidating experience, but also like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it was a dream from true, but it was just yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it was tough.
<v Speaker 3>And you're in our same generation, in our same boat.
<v Speaker 3>And that's like a lot of this podcast. The thing
<v Speaker 3>that's come out of is like we couldn't express like
<v Speaker 3>what big fans we were when we started No Two
<v Speaker 3>sharing a locker were undertaking Bob, how you're not.
<v Speaker 1>Going to just keep be like, hey, tak her you
<v Speaker 1>has bro.
<v Speaker 3>You know, it's just and if you did, oh my god,
<v Speaker 3>you'd just be annihilated. So like for years and years
<v Speaker 3>years we had to like kind of suppress it, which
<v Speaker 3>now like we think through the show and even wrestling.
<v Speaker 2>Now we don't anymore.
<v Speaker 1>Nobody can.
<v Speaker 2>I like it. I'm really open about it now because
<v Speaker 2>you know what, what caused that for me was when
<v Speaker 2>I went to OVW because everybody kind of shamed markedness
<v Speaker 2>all the time, and it made me feel like, all right,
<v Speaker 2>I just I shouldn't really show it too much. I
<v Speaker 2>got to be professional. But I did make exceptions to that,
<v Speaker 2>like you know, to go back to when you talked
<v Speaker 2>about Sean, like I didn't even once I found out.
<v Speaker 2>I don't even know if it was before that, but
<v Speaker 2>I made sure to tell him that, like he was
<v Speaker 2>my guy and all that stuff, because I was also
<v Speaker 2>worried that like maybe somewhere in this process I might
<v Speaker 2>say something that rubs him the wrong way. Right at
<v Speaker 2>least if I tell him like you were my guy,
<v Speaker 2>you some kind sympathy, well yeah, he just maybe you know,
<v Speaker 2>he'll know that, you know, I don't mean anything by
<v Speaker 2>it than that, you know, and how much I look
<v Speaker 2>up to of course, of course.
<v Speaker 1>So okay, so we were talking about this the other night.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, this guy, we got to have him one
<v Speaker 1>of the pod. So you had figures back in the day,
<v Speaker 1>you had the Hasbros, the Jacks, you had your figure
<v Speaker 1>feds with your friends. Tell us about all this stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I've been watching you guys, you know, and I
<v Speaker 2>just I haven't really gotten a chance to talk about
<v Speaker 2>it much because it's not as much of a thing
<v Speaker 2>for me now. I wish it was, because I don't
<v Speaker 2>have any of them anymore through circumstance. But uh yeah,
<v Speaker 2>wrestling figures were my life. Like my earliest memories of
<v Speaker 2>pro wrestling, like we were talking about, was the Hasbro figures. Man,
<v Speaker 2>and I would get those, you know, like for Christmas,
<v Speaker 2>and you know, my family celebrates Hanka, so we would
<v Speaker 2>get a different wrestling figure every night. Awesome.
<v Speaker 3>My buddy growing up, I would go to his house
<v Speaker 3>for Honakha, the same thing.
<v Speaker 2>I still have vivid memories man, of getting like, you know,
<v Speaker 2>a Marty Janetti figure one night of Shawn Michaels and
<v Speaker 2>I still and I still remember, like my prize figures
<v Speaker 2>were like you know, first it was the green Ultimate Warrior,
<v Speaker 2>you know with the pink and white, and then I
<v Speaker 2>ended up getting the white one that the pressing like.
<v Speaker 2>So those has Bros were definitely like the early I
<v Speaker 2>just like with you guys to your first figures or
<v Speaker 2>did you to me?
<v Speaker 3>I was tingle like my wrestling Phantom and Hazards like
<v Speaker 3>hand in hand, like I remember my first memories of
<v Speaker 3>watching wrestling or involve the.
<v Speaker 4>Hazards like Series one, and it's like it was like the.
<v Speaker 2>Gateway and the commercial right, but the commercials, I don't think.
<v Speaker 4>I can't stand how it is how big those were, like.
<v Speaker 2>The finishes with the Warrior riding.
<v Speaker 4>But there's like through the years, there's like there's like
<v Speaker 4>seven of them.
<v Speaker 1>There's a bunch of them if you on YouTube, it
<v Speaker 1>was absolutely perfect, like like Jesse the Body Macho.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm trying to think of which ones I I
<v Speaker 2>can remember everyone I had out of like that first series.
<v Speaker 2>I know that were the Rockers in the first series or.
<v Speaker 1>The Rockers are one of the early ones? Yeah, tag

<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but and he has the U s A on
<v Speaker 2>I think, yeah, see this is fun man. Yeah, and
<v Speaker 2>then did you have the ring? Oh yeah, I was
<v Speaker 2>telling Matt, like, dude, me and my buddy, we would
<v Speaker 2>we would run wrestling shows too, man, we'd set the
<v Speaker 2>ring up. We paara, guys, we get the music. And
<v Speaker 2>I think we had some kind of system though, where
<v Speaker 2>there'd either be rocks is a paper and then somebody
<v Speaker 2>whoever switching up, whoever wins, would get the offense or
<v Speaker 2>maybe that shows the winner. I can't remember, but uh yeah,
<v Speaker 2>we took it serious, man, like we really figures were
<v Speaker 2>such a huge thing. And then you know, of course,
<v Speaker 2>sure we'll talk about that. I remember. So the first
<v Speaker 2>member were the Hasbros. But then the w c W
<v Speaker 2>ones off the Galube.
<v Speaker 1>We were talking about the globs because like they was
<v Speaker 1>in the World.
<v Speaker 3>School, like with Flair comes to WF you have one
<v Speaker 3>ready to go, right, Oh did you have those?
<v Speaker 2>Of course?
<v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, of course that's how I discovered WW like
<v Speaker 3>toys wrestling the fuck like who are these guys?
<v Speaker 2>And then just you know, so funny to say that
<v Speaker 2>whenever I explained, I tell people that same thing, like
<v Speaker 2>I didn't know there was a WCW. And then I'm
<v Speaker 2>just flipping through TV one day and I see Rick Rude, okay,
<v Speaker 2>and you know, I just remember like, because at that time,
<v Speaker 2>you didn't know where where did these guys going? Guys
<v Speaker 2>just disappear? Right, Yeah, You're like, where do these guys go?
<v Speaker 2>And then all of a sudden, I mean it, And
<v Speaker 2>then I remember seeing Sting and then being like, Wow,
<v Speaker 2>who's this guy? And like he caught on real quick,
<v Speaker 2>because you know, he makes you think of the Warrior initially,
<v Speaker 2>but then you see that he's you know, very different,
<v Speaker 2>different type of performers.
<v Speaker 4>So I'm really mind blown. Years later, they were tag partners.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, find out in the eighties teaming what and
<v Speaker 1>then you had the Jacks, the bone Crunchers you had
<v Speaker 1>you were into those.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, like so okay, like, so let's see how this went,
<v Speaker 2>like because I had a little bit of a lapse,
<v Speaker 2>like you know a lot of people. I don't know
<v Speaker 2>if you guys did, but my wrestling lapse kind of
<v Speaker 2>was the end of ninety two to the end of
<v Speaker 2>ninety five, So I kind of missed ninety three and
<v Speaker 2>ninety four, and I had to go back and obviously
<v Speaker 2>do so when I came back in ninety five. I
<v Speaker 2>don't know what I missed figure wise, I probably missed a.
<v Speaker 4>Comeback, like the rare assros, like what we call the
<v Speaker 4>green cars, like when.
<v Speaker 3>You never see wwenty three kids, Yes, lud, there thousand
<v Speaker 3>dollars figures today, like.
<v Speaker 2>But when I came back, so I came back to
<v Speaker 2>watching in ninety five, like the whole Shawn Michael's concussion
<v Speaker 2>angle got me right because when I stopped watching, my
<v Speaker 2>two guys were SHAWNA Turnhel and I loved the whole act.
<v Speaker 2>I thought he was amazing, and Brett, like Brett was
<v Speaker 2>just you know, you had the match with mister perfect
<v Speaker 2>and all that, and I just the music, the tights,
<v Speaker 2>the whole. But so inh night, Yeah, I came back
<v Speaker 2>in ninety five and then yeah, shortly thereafter was that
<v Speaker 2>first check set and like, yeah, I was right back
<v Speaker 2>on board. It is funny and as much older now too.
<v Speaker 3>Well yeah, but still more fun to play with, even
<v Speaker 3>though yeah, you're more sophisticated wrestling fancy you can be
<v Speaker 3>like book your angles and set up your shows and
<v Speaker 3>what the hell you want to do?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, And I remember it was like so the Sean
<v Speaker 2>wearing the blue trunks slam ones you had an undertaker,
<v Speaker 2>a Bret Hart, a Razor Ramone.
<v Speaker 1>Diesel and gold dust. He has that whole set autograph. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I was telling him the other day. Everyone signed nice
<v Speaker 1>yellow pink Jelus.
<v Speaker 2>That I kind of always but Jack's, you know, it
<v Speaker 2>was awesome. So that was a really great time because
<v Speaker 2>first of all those ones, I think we all really
<v Speaker 2>love those, but then they just kind of got better
<v Speaker 2>and better. Details even got better, and then they started
<v Speaker 2>making like the kind of stuff we'd like to, like
<v Speaker 2>the you know, like an iron Man match pack or
<v Speaker 2>what you know.
<v Speaker 1>The atronic stuff.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, because we all benefit from that outitude where things
<v Speaker 3>got just so popular and they were prosing so much
<v Speaker 3>stuff or whatever. I've heard the story before that like
<v Speaker 3>they were having like a meeting with whatever, the merchandise people,
<v Speaker 3>and they were like, well, we sold out, telling Vincevince.
<v Speaker 4>Was what we should never sell. There should just be
<v Speaker 4>more and more and more and more.
<v Speaker 2>To sell it to him.
<v Speaker 3>And I'm like, in that that definitely makes sense, Like
<v Speaker 3>that had to be the mentality because there was just
<v Speaker 3>so much merchant, and there was.
<v Speaker 1>The beanie babies they like everything.
<v Speaker 2>Think of but like other thing, and we haven't even
<v Speaker 2>I'm sure you guys probably talked and we talked about
<v Speaker 2>this all the other day, but like it's kind of
<v Speaker 2>in the same genre. But the wrestling buddies obviously, for
<v Speaker 2>sure huge all got I didn't, so I only had
<v Speaker 2>the Ultimate Warrior. I know, you think you said you
<v Speaker 2>had more than I had.
<v Speaker 1>Everybody, but like every kid, I think our age has
<v Speaker 1>either Hogan or Warrior.
<v Speaker 3>I I had the original four like Macho Hogan, Warrior,
<v Speaker 3>Dbias and my friend I knew, like my buddy had
<v Speaker 3>Led and Debs and I mean buss Man and Jacob,
<v Speaker 3>so I knew they existed, but I never had a skin.
<v Speaker 2>Now I have them all mint save. I'm just kind
<v Speaker 2>of interested because I remember I only had the Warrior,
<v Speaker 2>and I remember all the different things I used to.
<v Speaker 1>Do the Warriors hours hours.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, but so like, how did you choose to spend
<v Speaker 2>your time between your wrestling buddies, Like was there one
<v Speaker 2>that got the most attention or was there ever a
<v Speaker 2>match between the wrestling buddies?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, like I.
<v Speaker 3>Would have one be my tag partner and I go
<v Speaker 3>back and forth like I have, like mom a ycho path,
<v Speaker 3>like literally like a psychle I can remember being in
<v Speaker 3>my basement like by myself for hours, like.
<v Speaker 2>Oh so wait, then you guys had a lot. Here's
<v Speaker 2>another part that we might have not even got to.
<v Speaker 2>But if you guys were running wrestling shows, then that
<v Speaker 2>means you guys, somebody was doing commentary commentary.
<v Speaker 3>He has this thing, what time he wore white gloves,
<v Speaker 3>thicking wouldn't count, like I we I wore.
<v Speaker 1>It was black gloves and a black Logs leap shirt
<v Speaker 1>because I filmed myself and I thought that if I
<v Speaker 1>watched it back, I wouldn't see my arms. That's amazing,
<v Speaker 1>but doesn't make any sense.
<v Speaker 2>It doesn't when you really think about it. But at
<v Speaker 2>first thought, oh yeah, maybe because it's a backdrop. Yeah
<v Speaker 2>it was, so how far does your friendship go back
<v Speaker 2>as far as this? We met at wrestling school at eighteen.
<v Speaker 3>Oh so, you guys are very stand office with each
<v Speaker 3>other because we were like the same age, same height,
<v Speaker 3>and then somehow we forgot we each collected reservates, which
<v Speaker 3>was even then was.
<v Speaker 1>Like oh yeah, and the two three like yeah, you
<v Speaker 1>could not.
<v Speaker 4>I don't nobody about this so weird was like that,
<v Speaker 4>I know I.
<v Speaker 2>Should have just embraced it because we would have seen
<v Speaker 2>who was real about it to you, because like you know,
<v Speaker 2>usually it's the guys that are that obsessed with stick around.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I I wasn't coege like sneaking away toys the
<v Speaker 3>wrestl and come back to my norm with the bags
<v Speaker 3>like like like a burglar, like trying to get everybody
<v Speaker 3>had a wrestler, Like I don't know about you guys,
<v Speaker 3>but you had a probably had one wrestling buddy that
<v Speaker 3>you hung out with more than all right, Yeah, I
<v Speaker 3>had that. Like I still talk to my my friend Man,
<v Speaker 3>I'll go to and he still watches wrestling, and I'll
<v Speaker 3>go to him because you know, sometimes we've been in
<v Speaker 3>the business so long, I'll just and we had comparable
<v Speaker 3>opinions too back in the day or compatible.
<v Speaker 2>So I'll just bet, yo, what do you think of this? Yeah?

<v Speaker 2>and like I was able to redeem myself in that
<v Speaker 2>match again for whatever reason, and that one I knew,
<v Speaker 2>you know, they had already reamed me out. My other
<v Speaker 2>memory of that that just sparked.
<v Speaker 4>You lost your bags and you did the whole tour
<v Speaker 4>and these like Bob Marley like board show.
<v Speaker 1>Oh my, all you had was like.

<v Speaker 3>And this is back when like Dresco was like real.
<v Speaker 3>So we're all like, looks like we're going to church
