M. Tuesday, February the twenty second, twenty sixteen. That's the day
today. It's the Giant Bondcast. It's a podcast, Hello starring us.
Hello, Hi is twenty s wave to? Isn't really know it's the twenty
third. Probably we should probably do that again. Hang on to that.
Yes, it's the twenty third, twenty third? Should we start over?
No moment of decision? Man through? Okay, fine, hello, Hi,
we need to live with our mistakes. This is This is the run
in like a video a hard video game where you die or you get hit
like immediately, and then it's like if that one didn't count, that one
didn't count, or like a this run is just an exploratory run, and
then that becomes your high score. Oh wow, Yeah, unless you're playing
a game where you can only get hit once. Who would do that?
I don't know what game. You're easy people would do that, I don't
know. Sounds like a bad video game. Oh boy, people have three
lives. I put in a quarter, I get three lives. That's how
this works. Start with what Yeah, that sounds like a rip off.
That sounds like they set the dip switches to rip me off. Rip someone
off five bucks, which you could match the R key and skip having to
mouse over to retry. Oh really, yeah, I just learned that too.
That I just, I just I just gave Dan an education a few
minutes ago. All Right, it's better than me at that game that we
haven't said the name of yet, Devil Daggers. Devil Daggers, that's a
devilish move. I pushed too for us to go record the quick look for
that right before this, because I needed to play a little Devil Daggers before
we need before we talked about it before we came in here. It's so
good. I suck so bad at it, but I can't decide if I
like it or not. You like it, I kind of hate it.
Do you do things you don't? I've never seen you more exciting to record
it quickly constantly. It's the theme of mine. Uh yeah, that game's
good. I think you're right. Yeah, I uh oh, we're talking
about Devil Daggers. Yeah. Oh my god, wow, it just got
very not gonna play on an audio podcast. Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna
take a picture of this and post it to the Giant Bomb Instagram account.
Yeah, it's gonna go up on the gram. Oh yeah wow, so
h I guess which is our the it's giant bomb dot com I'll spelled out
yeah doo tcom. It's very red in here. Yeah, it's Coolna,
it's it's pretty cool. It's it's hellish. Yeah yeah, yeah, absolutely,
yeah, we're developing fucking photos in here. It's very much like a
darker room and heard. My point of reference is a submarine. Okay,
okay, yeah yeah. When you go to battlestations, everything's red, gotcha,
It's like a red alert exactly. That's why they called it red October,
right, because it was just red inside the because it reds the color
of the Soviet Yet, no, you never know with you Dan record,
you know why submarines are red inside? Why to preserve your night vision?
Because the guys, your pupils from doing the things like the cati thing.
U don't cats see in the dark because they are their eyes like super dialate,
don't dilate or something. Why would you need night vision? You just
turn the lights ones in case the lights going you not when you go upstairs
to the conning tower and look for ships. The periscope, uh, the
periscope right, because that's looking out on the real world, I guess.
Yeah. But then there's actual windows too, like a windshield. Right,
there's no windows. No, I don't know if you're kidding with me.
It's right next to the screen door. Yeah, okay, oh no,
I know that's fair. There's no there are no longer portholes on submarines.
Do they burst at certain pressures. I just watched the deep Sea episode of
Planet Earth, and I know there's some creepy stuff down there. There is
some creepy stuff, true, ye, squid and bottom feeders. You know
you're close to the bottom. Have you seen the vampire squid from Hell?
What? Planet Earth? Have you guys seen a planet of Earth? No,
it's the best thing, not really so good. I've seen them all
like three or four times. And watch some of Richard Attonborough type shit or
what it is Richard Atonborough. It's BBC perfect. Yeah, Well it's Sigourney
Weaver if it's the American Discovery Channel, right, Yes? Is it is?
It? Is it? They just redub it with Sigourney Weavers. Yeah,
but it's exactly the same. Yeah. Yes, I watched it on
when it aired with Signey Weaver and then on the Blue with Richardtonborough. I
don't know, it was great. I prefer the BBC version, did I
Did I see right before we came in here and they just announced another run
of that thing? Serious swear the planet Earth would be still around. There's
still a planet of Earth. So I have to more years to make I
have to I have to look this up now what's changed since then? They
could do one more, but guy, I had to sit and where was
it? Where's the where's the the snow leopard Siberia? Oh yeah, there's
only like forty of them, Like there's something. We would sat on the
side of a mountain like six months looking for a snow leopard. It's like
there I have to kill. I have to kill six of those so that
I can carry more spears. Well in ten thousand BC. Yeah more,
Yes, they just announced the planet isn't just started yesterday. This is actually
about Earth too. Yeah, Heart will be hosting this one, okay,
uh no? Yeah? David David Attenborough David Attenborough is fully on board with
this. Is he brothers with the other one because I was constantly confusing that
guy with the Drastic Park guy. But he's dead Drastic Park Guy's debt.
Yes, but they are brothers. Oh, I didn't know that. I
think it wasn't it, David No. I looked it up yesterday because I
was wondering if it was the Drastic Park Guy and it's not. It's another
like Super Owl British Now he's eighty nine. Yeah, yeah, new new
six episode series Sex. Later this year, Fantastic Fantastic randomly started watching that
the yesterday. There you go, Oh, I've been to Planet Earth.
I should watch that. Yeah. They talk about like good restaurants to go
to or anything like that. Yeah, guy fairies the host. Awesome.
We the American one. Okay, yeah, the American one. He goes
just like from different like shows you like, different places to eat yep,
yeah, lots of like burger challenges and stuff. Right, awesome. Yeah,
that's really cow It tastes delicious. That's a that's a really bad guy
fiery impression. I want to say, what sounds like his hair. I
watched that film documentary. While we're on the subject the documentaries, Brad side
by Side. Oh yeah, Keanu Reeves. Yes, who's a great interviewer.
He's not bad, he's good. It's not bad. You could tell
he's been on a film set or two. Yeah, I think that thing
might have been taken off on Netflix. I watched it the night he told
me about it. I want to say, the day that you watched it
was the last day it was on Netflix. So now people can no longer
watch it. Well, it must be available somewhere side by side is a
TV perhaps care about care about the technology of image capture. That's a fantas.
So I was talking with one Joey Famelies, video producer extraordinary of testa
dot com about this documentary and he linked to me the video of the guy
who's the uh, the cinematographer for the eighth Star Wars movie. So apparently
J. J Abrams and I haven't confirmed this, but apparently jj Abrams said,
like, all right, blanket statement, everyone who's making the next three
Star Wars movies, they have to be on film because the first ones were
also And this director of photography was like, I much preferred digital. So
he went out this cinematographer and like shot film and digital together. And then
he apparently has devised, over a period of ten years, an algorithm two
create digital film that looks like or digital video that looks like film without a
reference file, so you don't have to shoot film at the same time and
then tweak it to a digital This is super video nerdy. But I'm the
video producer and I'm on this podcast. So is it just like a from
a drop down menu you just select film eyes basically? Does it? So
what he did, He's like, he ran his filter on it and then
also shot film side by side and then put them both up there. Is
that why it's called side by side? That's why that documentary is called side
by side. This is a searate video. Yeah, yeah, but I
can't indistinguishable. Yeah yeah that yeah, that the the The conclusion of that
documentary is pretty grim for people who were holding onto film well, but it's
also really heartening because like there was there was a point where everyone was like,
yeah, this is like digital is way inferior than film, blah blah
blah. And then like one camera, I forget if it's the RI or
one of the red cameras are Alexa and the Red Epic I think are the
two in that one that they but this documentary is like three years old at
this point, so they are probably better cameras. But even then they were
like, yeah, these are these are it almost there? Yeah, this
is this is what we were looking for, and now everyone's ready. Surprisingly,
Chris Nolan, I didn't realize he was such a film star. Dude,
he is. He is such a luddite, it's crazy, Like,
yeah, watch behind the scenes on some of his movies, Like he does
everything on the set that he possibly can. Yeah, So what is it?
What is the argument against digital? I mean, obviously the cameras are
getting there, but like, what was other other than like the nostalgia factor.
There's there's feel, Yeah, there's a there's a kind of a touchy
feel, the element of this is what we grew up with and have used
for a century. I totally get that and our use to and I would
say that's bullshit. Well that's the argument. That's kind of just why,
like why the cinematographer put this thing up here. It's like, look,
I can, I can do this and it's indistinguishable. Yeah, so what's
the point. I mean, they're you know there there were so much more
expensive and hard to do, and you can't get a film camera some places.
There were arguments about color timing and resolution and stuff like that stuff,
I want to ask, what is it? But that stuff has advanced so
fast with digital in the last five years that those arguments aren't really valid anymore,
least scorting to this documentary. But so yeah, it's yeah, that's
the crazier part of that documentary, which is like, but I didn't know
that in the past, a colorist only had like red, green, blue,
and luminance, like that's it, yeah, for the for all of
film. And now you've got like with digital you can do you can turn
the sky purple, you know, like you could like, oh brother,
where art Thou could not have been made because they wanted all, like all
the natural foliage and stuff to look brown but retain the blue sky. You
can't do that in film because you're changing the entire color. Prodot didn't do
some of that too. Yeah, not on the same time, I guess.
I don't know if they it's called bleach bypass. That may have been
a like an actual chemical process. Oh okay with the film, I don't
actually know. I remember thinking it was bullshit because I went into a college
for film school and I was just editing on final cut and premiere back then.
Yeah, and you go into your first film production classes, and they're
like, okay, well you gotta spend hundreds of dollars to buy like thirty
feet of film or whatever and actually cut it up and stuff. Why do
we have to fucking this is twelve fifteen years ago. That's That's the thing
with like a remote film set for a major motion picture, you are like
sending truckloads of film like to in front of the set every day, you
know, castle expense, Like you have to have a developer like there,
so you don't see it until a day later. The workflow, the workflow
arguments are are self evident, you know. Yeah, uh it's it's it's
a lot more romanticized than that. But that documentary is fantastic. Yeah,
And I love the look of film, and so does this this. Uh
I wish I could remember his name, but the cinematographer for Star Wars episode
eight, he's like, that's like my favorite look. Probably do just just
because I've been watching film for so long. But I can make digital look
like that, so why not? Right? But it's so much easier and
cheaper yea, And they can't, like you said, the cameras are smaller.
You can get them in a lot of weirder places. Is he then
being allowed to not shoot this movie on film? I don't know. I
mean that that plays into the whole like like nostalgia tinged Disney marketing mechanism of
like they're all practical effects and it's being shot on film, and it's being
made like the ones you liked and not the ones that you hated. Like
that's basically the crux, you know what. Like I think that's fine because
Star Wars is such a like landmark film. It's the sort of thing like
if you said, oh, we're making some offshoot Star Wars movie, it
has to be shot on film, that wouldn't really I wouldn't really get that.
Well, they've already been saying about like they hired the cinematographer from black
Hawk down for Rogue One, like like they are stylistically moving kind of a
field of what Star Wars has been for for those offshoots. Yeah, but
anyway, that stuff remains to be seen video. It also remains very red
in here. Yeah, devilishly read. I don't think I actually think that
I need to keep steeping in this should Yeah, after the quick look we
just recorded devil Daggers man was Devil Daggers shot on film. Devil Daggers was
shot on the Quake one software Renderers of the Day. It totally has the
look of It's actually, uh, it's way more than just the low resolutionists
of it. Like the character movement looks and feels like Quake one, like
when you when you strafe left and right. Though there's a little subtle like
tilt like tilt, yeah, just like Quake, like a bit of a
rocket jump. It very much feels like an homage visually the bunny hopping.
If you don't know what we're talking about. Devil Daggers is a first person
I guess the shorthand I use the first person in geometry Wars. Yeah,
it's like Geometra Wars or like Robotron or but it's it's but it's like a
run based game. You your score is your time. You want the last
so long as you can, and very quick responds yeah. The number,
Yeah, the number of enemies you kill means nothing in terms of the leader
boards. It's purely just how long you can survive. Yeah. It takes
place on this very small playfield, like just this kind of round platform that
you can fall off the side of it's very dark, so you can't always
see the edge like they usually. You totally use the darkness against you on
some of the later enemies, making it harder to see their weak points and
stuff like that. Well, you say the Geometry Wars thing, but the
scary thing is that in Geometry Wars you can always see the pack that's chasing
you around, right, And with this one, it's just a bunch of
fucking skulls and you know they're behind you all the time, but you don't
see him until you turn around. There's just right there in your face.
Is extremely important to get. Yeah, because because all the enemies have different
sound cues. Yep, there's like a tell that you can hear based on
what kind of enemy is about sneak up behind you. It's great sound too.
I've seen some people complain about like the fact that you can't see everything
making the game kind of unfair, But I would argue, if there are
things chasing you to the point that you can't get away from them, like
you've already sucked up, like that game is about threat management. Yeah,
and like keeping the enemy spawners down as fast as you can, clearing the
board as much as you can, right, Like you just if if the
enemies are building up to a point that they're going to overwhelm you, it's
because you're failing. Like that's just the way that you have to play that
game, and that's how you will die in that game, is at some
point inevitably you are going to get overwhelmed because you haven't cleared the board enough,
right, and you're gonna run into or back into some spire or some
group of enemies. So I think I got just over seventy seconds. Yeah,
And the game operates on a set like everything kind of spawns at the
same time, like it seems to escalate it a set progression. Every everything
seems very SI. If there was something that I had to say that I
kind of didn't like about that game, it would actually be that. Yeah,
and I get that, like, you know, if you want a
fair leader board, then you kind of need everyone to have the same run
more or less. But there's something about like kind of not knowing what's coming
your way. And I'm sure, you know, if I was actually good
at the game and saw more of it than I would forget. But I
know that the big spidery thing appears at forty seconds. Yeah, yeah,
that sort of stuff. I don't think the location is static, but definitely
the timing of definitely is. Yeah, that'll introduce some randomness just because like
if the enemy spawners happened to be on opposite sides of the platform, you're
kind of gonna have a problem clearing both at the same time. But I
think it feels fair though, like it's super super hard. But every time
I die, I feel like it's my fault. I guess I'm with you,
but I feel like I'm still getting like hit from the side and so
you know, like, so what what times are you getting because I maybe
maybe guys spent eight okay, so maybe you spent way more time with it
to get there. Though that that feels because I'm still like, oh wait,
wait, why did I just I think mine was a fluke because normally,
like I die right around the time the spider spawns, and then I
kind of freak out and can't kill that, and that's at the same time
the like superspire with the two gems. Yeah, uh spawns, and that's
a different type of horn thing. Yeah, the horn thing that chases they
kind of perpetually kills me that not got pass over that hump yet. Yeah,
the hump for me is fifty five to sixty seconds. That's almost always.
Yeah, absolutely, my best is one seventy one, but I can't
even I typically can't even come close to that. Like, yeah, that
that forty to fifty seconds span is the crucible you have to get through to
get a higher time, Like if you don't execute perfectly at that moment,
you are just not gonna make it. Yeah, yeah, I think my
highest score was a fluke definitely. But a cool thing you can do is
look at everyone's high score run because at anyone on the leaderboard, like on
your Steam friends list or whatever, you just click this button next their name
and you watch their entire run. You can speed it up, slow down,
all that stuff. It's real great. I just I don't know how
I feel about a game like this where I, like, I would estimate
eighty percent of my runs are coming it in coming in at about a third
of my best time. But don't you feel like somehow not really you know,
you got to that best time once, right, I mean, well
I got like, you know, I was hitting ninety seconds every so often,
and then I got like one hundred and twenty a couple times, like
it's it's been iterative, but I can't. It's just the number of times
that I fail out super quick because I was figuring, figuring this game would
be about those kind of checkpoints like at the forty to fifty second range,
like you're talking about like okay, devil daggers, Like I'm gonna get past
this one and then the next you know, kind of hectic moment or or
hey, I'm gonna set this new score and then hopefully I won't regress or
all start getting to that point like like all the time. That's that's what
I mean. I keep regressing, keeps forty fifty. That's frustrating every every
single time. It's driving me crazy. It's it's specifically that first spider spawn
and what you have to do to get through that stuff, because the spider
eats the gems that let you upgrade your web. What, oh, you
didn't know that. Yeah, that's that's crucial. As its alive, it's
sucking all the gyms and the fucker kill that things. I am bad at
killing the spider, yeah I do. That's the other problems. Do you
have to shoot the glowing part. Specifically, there's a larger part that seems
to abandon flow. Realize that either in the quick look because you shoot the
red thing on the spire. So when I saw the spider, like,
oh yeah, the spires, the red gym is the weak point on the
spider. The red gym is below the weak point, which is its face.
But it's super hard to see its face because it floats off to the
side of the platform where you can't walk. I didn't notice the flashes like
yellow or something that hit it, But the yellow flashing part is the weak
point. Yeah, when you shoot it, that's what thing to face the
lights up, that's the weak point. But devil tagers, it's really hard
to see that weak point and zero in on it and be that thing can
kind of fold itself up and just hide its face whenever it wants. Yeah,
yeah, so it can become invincible every So like that that ten seconds
stretch there makes or breaks every run, and it breaks most of them for
me. And that is actually that's that's Yeah. I typically don't kept past
forty forty five fifties something like that. Yeah, I wash out there pretty
often too, And yeah, like I'm I'm actually I was very hot and
heavy on this game coming out of us playing it on the show on Friday,
and then spent a little bit of time with it over the weekend,
and I don't know how much more devil Tackers I have left in me,
which for five dollar game, that's okay, sure, you know, like
like that's that's all right, But that that one, that one odd run
where you managed to get the upgrade and kill the spider and just start clear
and shit feels incredible. I've yet to get an upgrade like that is a
best moment contender or the first time you get that upgrade and then just start
like wiping everything off the map, like it feels amazing, But it doesn't
come often enough for my taste, like feeling like you're like you're like jumping
and grasping at this ring that you're trying to grab onto and only like one
out of every like thirty hops do you actually managed to get your fingers on
it. Yeah, that's my analogy. How do you get that upgrade?
It's just ten gems that drop from from certain enemies. Certain enemies, yes,
okay, the spires, the skull, the horns, skulls, and
like once you get to like the centipede and stuff, there's a time.
Yes, I've seen the centipede two or three times. Wow, wait,
so were we not getting ten gems? Were I still never have? I
played like six hours this weekend. I didn't get it once, and I
know what you have to do. Like we're getting gyms left and right,
but I guess so the spider will eat them. They'll also just blink out.
They'll start flickering and vanish if you don't pick them up fasterma, And
if you're shooting, they're not gonna magnet ties to you. Ye, stop
shooting, and then they suck indies. So you can only you can Oh,
you can typically only get like eight or nine gems by the time the
spider spawns and starts taking them from you. So you have to focus that
thing down and then you'll be able to get enough. Hopefully. It's a
fucking harsh master. Yeah, it's a really mean game, but it's it's
super satisfying when it all clicks. It just doesn't. It doesn't quite click
often enough for me. I was telling Brad in the quick look, like
even if it's something where I get frustrated enough and I'm not gonna, you
know, keep playing because I feel like I've topped out in skill level wise.
It's gonna be a fun one to watch the leaderboards because just in the
few days I've been playing it and watching it, like, there are these
names I'm recognizing. Now there's Matt Bush the developer, and there's that bone
Carver guy who got that initial like eight minute run. Now there's this new
person who's using your name. It's just like twitch slash whatever. The top
guy on the leaderboard has his twitchy arnalysts user name right, sweet, So
like I want to watch that almost like a Steve web Billy Mitchell type thing,
like, oh yeah, who totally got this, totally got the American
flag tie, who's sell barbecue sauce? Like totally. The name bone Carver
was like floating in my head all weekend. I see a bone Carver is
doing his name. It is his his his top run that we saw on
Friday. It got invalidated over the weekend due to a patch. Yeah I
might so they patched it and I think it maybe tweets something that broke his
run or something. Anyway, Yeah, he vanished off the leaderboard. He's
back like like number two right now. Uh, but yeah, it's it's
gonna be fascinating to watch people break that game open. Well, and you
were saying that it sounds like Matt Bush might have said somewhere that they're like
thirteen bosses. I need to verify that. I don't know if that's the
case or not. But so, Drew, we remember the bone chandelier.
Yeah, yeah, we saw the current number one as of the time this
recording, the current number one run has the guy beating the bone shandlights bone
shan. Imagine if that is correct, If there's like thirteen bosses and the
top in the world has only beaten one of them, Like that seems like
such a cool idea. Though, even if there's you know, five or
six that like, how long is it going to take for someone to actually
beat that guy? How do you develop that? I'm gonna I don't ask.
My question is the developer of holding back deliberate? But like he's he's
a like number what two or three on the leader board? Is that deliberate?
So he's not like, here's a run that shows everything that the game
has to offer. Yea, yeah, maybe just keep yourself up there.
Yeah, but just like people know, like I'm here. Yeah, yeah,
I'm not going anywhere. I'm trying to fact check that now and see
if I can actually figure out how many. I don't know where I saw
that about there being a bunch of bosses in it, but fact checking.
But think about that though, If there are actually a ton of bosses in
this game and the best person in the world has only barely beaten the first
time, yeah, that's great, I'll never see any of them. Well,
no, you can watch their run. It becomes more of a spectator
sport at that point, and I don't know there's enough Like the audio visual
nature the side of of of this game is so haunting that I don't like
watching it for longer at the time, I don't like hearing it. It
creeps me out. Yes, I eventually hit a spot with Devil Daggers or
I'm like, okay, Devil Daggers, I'm gonna stop playing Devil Daggers.
Find you need to. It seems like that's the game you need to just
like really grind away on. Yeah, as long as you've got the patience,
you know, until your patience goes then you know, Okay, I
need to stop for a few hours. I find myself coming away from it
with a really gross, like nervous energy. Yeah. Yeause it's so stressfuich,
he's just so stressful. I was playing on Friday night. It did
not It did not help me. Yeah, and any Yes, I was
not in a good place after that. I was feeling a little loggy after
lunch just now though, and then we did that win did that quickly.
Yeah, it is kind of a little bit lowgy, Yes, logy,
waylaid by some burritos, Like oh, like you ate like you're full or
you feel yes, exactly got you. We did that quick look though,
and I was just like low after dark, ready to go, man like
I played some devil Daggers. Let's do this. It'll wake you up for
sure. Uh, it is worth five dollars. It is absolutely worth five
dollars just to see how mean it is. And it doesn't look and sound
amazing. Yeah, it's it's pretty cool if you're if you're in the first
person shooters of a certain time period. Yeah. So we were talking about
we were recording a demo Derby earlier today, which I guess I'll be on
the side is coming examined by the time you were just coming soon comes yea
ten this week, yeah, sometimes week, and uh, we were talking
a little bit about Quake World. Well yeah, quake what about it?
I don't know, it's it's just it's just how crazy it was, like
the the the predictive, like the client side prediction of Quake World and what
and how meaningful that is or kind of video games too that followed. It
was like it was when Quake came out and it played like garbage on a
modem and everybody was super mad. Yeah, and Carmack I think it was
his Carmack or one of the other I think it was like Karmack and some
motters or something sat down and make Quake World. Didn't No, No,
it was all him. I wasn't but it was right after wrong, so
it was it was right after release. But but I think it was him
that came out and literally said, hey, we played this on an IPX
network in our office. We didn't realize it would be just bad. Yeah,
yeah, like wait, they were they We talked about this in those
uh what if his plan files. Yeah, you can go back to ninety
seven or whatever if you were if you were if you were to finger John
c Att Software dot com, which I do all the time every day,
you would have seen, yeah, like look for more updates. But yeah,
it was it was that was actually this weird like game developer privileged situation
of like we play on the supers in our office. We didn't actually test
this on a modem because nobody's ever made a multiplayer shooter that runs over modems
like this before, so we didn't jo It was like, oh, let
me just solve this, right. So then so then he comes comes up
with this like standard setting solution for like yeah, for a client side predictive
movement and all that stuff. But that was such a weird time for PC
shooters because oh yeah, yeah, developers were just coming up with these massive
innovations left and right for like skin support and mods and online multiplayer and just
all that stuff. It was very happening. Yes, it was fun.
It was fun to be right there with a PC that was good enough to
run all that stuff. Yep, Playing bought and then I bought my Voodoo
Playing Quick at three hundred pink. Yeah, totally three hundred mill second.
I had more of like it me was. It was mark like two eighty
five. Yeah, that's yeah, that's about right. Yeah, I was.
I was on a twenty eight eight at the time. Those are fun
times, but those that was then. This is now, Okay, what's
what's now now? It's been going on? Is Far Cry Primal now?
Gosh? Right, after sitting through that quick look and then you reviewed it
and then I forgot we would have to talk about it left that much of
an impression on you. Huh. It's man, I there was a real
roller coaster of emotions with my time with Far Cry Primal. You know it
really there are things about that game that I really like and a lot of
it that I think is one hundred and ten percent forgettable. Uh you know.
So this is the far Cry that takes place in ten thousand BC e
uh for the Common era, Yeah, before the Common era, the Uncommon
era, the Uncola era, and you slam seven ups and club Saver to
the tigers. It's awesome and that actually sounds like an okay, it does
sound all right, it's just cool spot two all right. Yeah, so
this is uh, take all the things about Far Cry skinning animals to get
upgrades, taking out so there's no okay, I'm gonna blow your mind here.
Okay, there's no wallet and there's no currency. What are you gonna
do with an animal hide? You're gonna you know, well, you're gonna
use an animal hide the generic term animal hide to build your weapons? Is
it not specific? Like, oh, there's a cassowarier. So there are
also specific animal skins that those are used for the upgrades, but there's just
a resource for like, hey, I threw all my spears and I need
to make more spears. So when you skin an animal, you get their
specific skin, like a you know, a badger skin or something like that.
But then you also get like I got two animal hides also, Okay,
under the skin is the hide. It's just like a general currency of
swords for crafting. Yeah, yeah, pretty much. What does a bandicoot
skin get you? And nothing? It gets you bought by Activision. So
are you saying there are more types of currency and materials. It's like they
doubled and tripled down on the crafting aspects of the game, which I liked
those in the previous games, but only because they were kind of that means
to an end, and it was a fun diversion from the things you were
doing. It was like, oh, well, I'm gonna go hunt this
stuff for a little while and then get back to you know, take an
out posts and do amissions and allsother stuff where it's like a lot of this
game like there are so there's a village in this game, and you have
to build huts and you have to upgrade the huts, and that's also resources.
So you're like, well, here's a fucked up tree. I'm gonna
go take this wood, and I'm gonna use some of that wood for building
more arrows, but I'm also going to save some of that would in my
pack and that will eventually be used to upgrade a hut back at the village,
which will unlock more skills for me to buy and will potentially also advanced
story in some cases. And so like they really just they made a far
Cry game that was way more about the crafting, and it seems like this
super misguided thing. Like though like yeah, I was, you have to
wonder like if they if they thought, like if they looked at all the
other like survival games coming out and it's like, man, we've been doing
that for years, let's just blow that out. But they blow it out
at the at the expense seemingly of the rest of the game. So like,
it has main missions and it has secondary missions, but like the main
missions are really underwhelming and the storyline is incredibly thin and lifeless. And as
I finished it and didn't realize I had finished it, if it was like,
oh, that's like the opposite of finishing Far Cry for super right,
Well, I think the opposite is finishing Middle. You're solid five thinking you're
finished, and then there's more. You'll be finished about six more credit roles
from there, and actually, so I apparently finished it out of order because
they're basically it's like you're you eventually, so you are building up your village
and as you you know, and Far Cry they would have the missions where
it's like, hey, here's two guards walking a prisoner through the open world,
and if you just shoot those guys and free the guy, and then
it's like, yay, well, now when you do that, a villager
gets added to your village's population, and there are other missions that get When
you take over an outpost, you get more population, and that population number
translates into XP bonuses and more resources, more resources for more crafting. The
guys, and also, you know, kind of just just eventually gets you
more XP so so they've they've built that into it as well. But yeah,
so you're building up your tribe, but there are two other tribes,
and there are you know missions along the way to kind of take on those
other tribes that are you know, ones up in the north where it's icy,
ones down south and they like to throw firebombs, and yeah, and
i'd beat the Ice Tribe. So they sent over a review guide that talks
about you know, hey, here's you know, a mission one, mission
two, and I went and looked at that after I finished the game,
and they had the last mission as beating the Ice Tribe, which the conclusion
of like after that mission there was something somewhat meaningful that happened, and I
was like, oh, okay, that's interesting, But I still have to
go beat the other tribe and they're the real bad guys, right, Like
apparently they have it the other way, which is super weird for the progression
of the game. It actually doesn't make much sense. And sure enough,
like the conclusion of that side of things, this is just nothing. It's
just like it feels like a mid game story point I murdered that boss and
now we're out here doing more. But that's actually how both of them go.
So it's like this weird just basically like it makes the whole game feel
like it's one long side mission and nothing of import happens, and like I
don't remember, you know, like the whole game is not so that it's
forced subtitles because no one speaks English. They're speaking a I don't know if
it's a made up language or maybe it's an actual based on there could be
some historical basis in this prehistorical uh, cave man language. I thought that
was a really interesting point. Uh, it's it's neat that they did it,
but it actually it left me feeling totally detached from the happenings of the
game because I just don't I just don't care about any of the cut scenes.
They're just like they're shouting and nonsense. And it's like reading the subtitles
going like and then subtitles written in like a very like caveman kind of way.
That's super weird. It's like like even the subtitles look like Tarzan and
speak yeah, and that's that's a little that was a kind of hard to
read. Yeah, and it's all so very inconsistent with that which is front
or the way they're actually like me, do this like a manner of speech?
Okay, Yeah, I have to imagine that they sort of leave that
behind whenever they need to express them or complicated idea. Yeah, but there
are very few complicated ideas at play in Far Cry prim people Jeff, Yeah,
but you know there's no tower climbing, but it has its drug trip
equivalent, you know, it has it's you know, hey, clear out
this outpost to get a fast travel point, and you know there's a lot
of animals to deal with. Some One of the other things they added was
animal taming, and you you know how you could throw out and meet as
Baits and previous far Cries. Now, if you have the right skill points
invested, you can walk up and hit tame and then you can have a
leopard that runs around and kills shit for you specific animals or ye, specific
creditors, not anything. Right. So you know, by the midpoint of
the game, I had to stab or shoot the tiger just running right,
And I could write it if I wanted to, But the writing animal controls
in that game I think are actually super bad. They always happened. Is
it something you could summon at times? Or do you summ it whenever you
need it? If it dies, it's gone forever. If it dies you
it has a timer that ticks down you can walk up, so basically you
feed it meat, the same meat you would used to heal yourself. And
if that timer expires before you give it meat, you then have to spend
like two or three red leaves to get it back. But you can call
like any other animal that you've tamed also, So if you're just like whatever,
that one's dead, I don't have leaves, I'm gonna call him the
bear that I tamed earlier. You know, you can do that too,
okay, and it was you know, it's an AI companion, and you
you're limited to basically like ordering it to a location or ordering it to attack
a target. And sometimes that's fine. One time I ordered my tiger into
a village to start fucking people up, and it got stuck in the environment.
And like the pathing on, it is sometimes really bad. And sometimes
it'll just like you know, like if you swim across something, it'll just
materialize next to you. When you get out of the water. They had
some of that and ford didn't they like when you had the drug trips stuff
where you just had the like spirit bow and then it was some sort of
like white Lion or something that yeah, yeah, yeah, but that was
Yes, you would like point at agro of enemies and it should go over
there and attack them, right, yeah, basically the same type of thing.
Uh yeah, same type of thing, and uh, you know,
I think it's it's well done, but it makes an easy game even easier
in a way like which seems completely at odds with the idea that like they
looked at survival games on on Twitch and we're like, well, let's lean
into that. Who knows if that's what they did. Yeah, case,
well, when when you're talking about that, like with the crafting system,
are we talking about them doubling down on the crafting stuff and the way that
it feels like like they're doubling down in the in the way that like farc
right does it putting it sticking a rock together to build a club. But
you're just collecting stones everywhere you go, and you're collecting sticks everywhere you go,
so basically you're going into a menu, you're into your weapon wheel actually,
and you're you're already on club and anytime you can hit the X button
on PS four to just craft more clubs instantly, all right, And you
know you can set your if you have animal fat, you can set your
weapons on fire with it, and then if you leave it on fire long
enough, it will burn up and you'll have to craft another one. You
can hold like five clubs by the time you're done crafting belts not some other
shit. You know, you've got five spears and six or six spears or
something, and you know, six clubs and some two handed clubs, and
two bows, three bows, and forty eight arrows. So by the end
of the game, I had forty meats that I could hold. I could
hold forty meats. That's a lot of meat when you use it. When
you use one to heal like three points of life and one to heal fifty
percent of your animals health. How many you can have up to six you
start with three, okay, And it's not a difficult game at that point,
Like even you know missions where I'm just like I have like five guys
surrounding me and they are setting me on fucking fire. That's bad, but
I'm just gonna hold down the meat button and everything's okay. Uh So yeah,
like like the death was not a problem in that game. Uh in
a way that is really at odds with this whole like kind of you know,
hey, it's hard to survive out here. Like, no, it's
totally not. It's totally not. In terms of like over all length,
does it feel like a full scale farcrier? Is it more like an offshooting
Blood Dragon? It's longer than I mean, it's full price, So it's
that's that's not like Blood Dragon was. It was thirty right? Was twenty?
I don't I don't actually know. It feels like a Blood Dragon's worth
of content stretched out stretched, thin, stretched to the breaking point, you
know. Uh. I So it took me fourteen and a half hours to
finish the story stuff and it called that thirty five percent complete? Were you
I was? I did a ton of I did almost all of the upgrades.
Oh okay along the way, that's crazy. What is what is sixty
some odd percent of that game? There are a ton of secondary so you
know how when you would go into when you take an out post, it
would pop up like, hey, there's a signpost here that tells you about
a mission somewhere else. All those missions are out in the world too,
like a racing challenge or something. There's no I don't think there's anything but
like that type of thing, yeah, that type of stuff. Yeah.
And and so a lot of those events are just duplicated and laid out everywhere,
like the map is a mess about it. That's crazy. Uh.
And even even in the open world games with a lot of side stuff,
I still feel like once you've finished the story and done most of the main
stuff, you would presumably be at least past the fifty percent mark, if
not end up in the sixteen. I think it depends on the quality of
the contract. And my problem with it is that you would go hover over
the icons and you'd see it's like the same handful of events over and over
and over and over again. And I did a handful of those, but
those were not engaging, you know, like like the bulk of the game
felt like I was doing exactly that already, you know. So the idea
of like to go doing more of it for seemingly no reason except for more
population, which I didn't need. You only need you need forty villagers to
get the maximum level of HUT upgrades. So everything past forty is just you
getting bonus XP to buy more skill points. But I had more than enough
skill points by the end of that thing to do what I wanted to do.
And then some well, in the previous Farkright games, there was a
lot of stuff that felt kind of same me, like, oh, I'm
just taking over these outposts or killing these guys. But then every once in
a while there'd be that big campaign mission where it was like, Okay,
bomb this huge fucking factory, taking an elephant run through, Like are there
those big memorable missions at all? Or there is? There is one one
of the fortress missions has you ride a mammoth through a gate that in a
moment that's like pretty cool. And there's so there's like a couple of little
things here and there, but nothing to that degree. Are you burning any
pot fields to God? No? None, no pot fields to Scrillo sadly,
Uh yeah, it's and I ended up actually enjoying the combat a lot
more than I thought I would. This isn't like a oh there's no guns,
it's no fun sort of thing, like the actual act of taking these
spears and just fucking throwing them through people was actual edges that looked really cool.
Yeah, knocking people off off of ledges because you know, this is
a bit of carry. You throw a spirit a guy, it's gonna knock
them back a little bit and it's a one hit kill generally. That was
super fun, even the armored enemies, like it has the equivalent of heavies
and a heavy takedown skill that you can get to. You know, if
you want to do the stealth kills to them those guys, you can throw
two maybe three spears at him to kill those guys. Are there any like
flying hawks or anything you can throw spears in, because that's yes. Okay
fish one of the first I'll say one of the yes. There, you
can spear fish. You get spear crocodiles. Okay. One of the first
things that happened in this game is the fucking bird flew out of the sky
and got me, and I was pissed. I was like, all right,
far cry but uh but yeah that it didn't that didn't happen again.
Yeah, yes, you have an owl that you can call in to fly
around and mark targets like the mark of cree kind sure, okay, yeah,
a little bit. I just I don't quite know what to make of
the trajectory of the Far Cry series at this point. This feels like a
totally forgettable, stop gap kind of game. I just don't understand. Like
I came out of four with a certain amount like I love four. I
thought like four is basically a better game than three, even though it's kind
of inherently slightly less impressive, right, and it's also like the third one
of those if you count Bloodrags, I mean, well, yeah, that's
that's true. Like I was, I know, you were too, like
just fucking bowled over by three, like I was, yeah, man,
blown away by it for like you know, some of the shitty story stuff.
And I don't like Fright one R two. I'm that one is like
a such a different, weird throwback at this point, Like I understand why
People Too was like a map reading simulators. Now there's that stuff. I
mean, like I understand like that, but there just the kind of utterly
open ended like Emergent Chaos of two was maybe a little too wild for me.
I'm talking about paper Park. Right two was an incredible game. I
just didn't, you know, I just didn't really enjoy playing it. I
just I, you know, whatever it says about my preferences, I wanted
it to be a little bit more video game e than it was, and
was absolutely that is the perfect level of dumb power fantasy. Fuck this,
Noblia. Also, I kind of enjoyed the regimented mechanics a little more,
you know, of like you know, like you know, one of the
big common complaints about two was the responding checkpoints. You know, It's like
you spend time clearing out a checkpoint and then have you walk away with nothing
substantive to add to a progress indicator or whatever, whereas in three, part
doesn't feel the numbers don't get well, there's that, but also you know,
they also respond so quickly that it was it actually made your life more
difficult because you kept you kept getting shot at every time you drove through any
choke point, no matter what you did. Yeah, Whereas like you you
felt like you were taking over some territory, and three like they made it,
they made it. They gave some some valuable feel like san Andreas in
a weird pie, like as you were taking over more of the hood.
Like you know, there was the feeling of like, oh man, I
got I got my people everywhere, my family, right, It's like this
three was the sweet spot for me. But yeah, like you know,
the more times they iterate on that formula without radically changing it, like the
less impressive it. Yeah, and this is you know, like I said,
the combat is quite different, you know, unless you played the previous
games with a bow, which you could but I didn't. Uh, you
know, the mail and you can throw anything, which I think is fun
and dumb. Uh. You there is a rock that you can throw for
like a distraction thing. Yeah, but also but also you can upgrade that
to a sling that will then break the masks off of guys if you want
to expose their head. Does it still reward you for hunting with a bow,
because I remember in four or it would make like the hide or whatever
more valuable because you hadn't shot. On top of all the crafting in this
game, all of the resource nodes have a chance to drop a rare version
of that resource. So that's the thing when you tell me that they just
added subcategories of resources and like this, it just becomes this like top heavy
mess of numbers and yeah, like that's too much. And so you know,
you might get rare south stone, which you need for a different type
of upgrade than regular south stone, and make it a different make it just
a different resource one. Yeah, yeah, you know. Yeah. So
so it's it's it's not that. But with the animals you can tell.
It's like, oh, this is a white wolf. It's gonna have a
white wolf skin instead of the regular wolf. That actually sounds a lot like
just quick side. I'd beat tumb rator this weekend, and you would skin
animals in that, and there is actually a lot of resources and crafting in
that as well. But like certain one of them would have like a little
glittery sparkle thing indicating it's like a special hide or whatever, but it didn't
really indicate like you'd kill a deer and go, you know, carve it
up or whatever and it's like, oh, you got sparkle hight or whatever.
Not normally you wouldn't know this. That's that's well. With the animals,
you do know in this, But with plants and trees and all the
south stuff, like oh I got the rare sticks, great rare reads.
It's weird and you can spend your skill points to increase the likelihood that you'll
get rare resources also, which you know, it was never like a huge
like roadblock for me because like I said, the game is simple, right,
so you know it's not you know, I felt like I didn't have
to go all the way up the tech tree to finish the game. I
just did because I was getting stuff along the way. Uh. And yeah,
it's it's a very strange game in that sense. Like you know,
there are aspects of it that I think are are well done, and you
still see a lot of the underpinnings of Far Cry, but by this being
the fourth Far Cry game that sticks to kind of the blueprint that they that
they set out that that they executed really well in Far Cry three, by
this being the fourth one of those everything that game did is is not as
impressive today, and and the things that they double down on with the resource
management and gathering and stuff, I think is uh detracts from the game.
And I feel like the mission design is really drab, so it's like for
as fun as the combat can be, and it's like there are some cool
ideas around the animal management and taming and and some of that stuff. Largely
I think the game is like, Unfortunately, you're like really boring. That's
a shame. And yeah, so it's it's a really weird thing. You
know. They announced it kind of out of nowhere and it shipped pretty soon
afterwards. And you know, I think like, if this was something that
was a tighter package, that was like more Blood Dragon in scope yea,
and in price and stuff like that, like this would make total sense.
You'd be like, oh, after Farkry four, you know, just like
with Farcry three, you wanted to make a smaller thing that was like a
unique spin on these mechanics, you know, the same way that Blood Dragon
was. It's weird, you know, eighties future nonsense. Yeah, like
you know, this is you know, crazy caveman business. But for this
to be blown out into or not really blown out enough in some ways,
into a full priced retail product at that kind of length and that kind of
expectation, it just doesn't add up to me. See. I never quite
burnt out on fark right, even though you know, I agree they were
very similar through three and blood Dragon four. At the end of four,
I was still so high on the series that, like, I would play
more of that. The thing is you probably would like like a you know,
a theoretical fark right five or whatever to make the same improvements over four
that four did over three. You know, like this also sounds like co
op, I should say, like it sounds like this thing. This sounds
like the only the only areas where this thing progresses the mechanics are in the
areas that it was kind of dangerously like things that was heavy on all things
it was already doing well, like the crafting and stuff like that. You
know, like like you like, you don't need more types of material much
of it. Yeah, yeah, you know, it's too much of what
you're doing. And I worry too, because my favorite stuff, and like
fark right four is when I'm flying around in the copter and like that grenade
launcher was my favorite thing in the world, and like I love just like
flying above a convoy of trucks and shooting it and see a truck blake.
Like say with some certainty that there is no grenade launch right in this game.
But you do have like fire bombs, Okay, that's pretty cool,
and you do have bee bombs or what are they called, there's sting bombs
or whatever, But it's just a fucking sack of bees that you throw a
people. Okay, that's dumb, Yeah, but like a cool, a
cool silly ass idea that I ended up almost never using. Yeah, I
just wonder though, if that's gonna translate, because like I like the big
explosive stuff and for and really fucking stuff up, and like, since obviously
this is not gonna have explosions and stuff like that to that degree. I
mean, you can set stuff on fire. There are couple missions where like,
go burn a village and it has the meter that woul show up when
you were burning the pot fields shows up there, and you know, you
get to you get to burn an outpost just through like fire bombs or just
I mean you set your weapon on fire and then swing it at stuff and
it sets it on fire. Prehistorics real like sounds like like kind of the
same. Sometimes you'll find people in the center of an outpost just banging on
a drum and you're going, yeah, did you redo? Did you redo?
Yes? Did you redo? Is is the is the actual right answer?
It seems like if you're remotely worried about burning out and far cary as
I have been coming out of four like if it would be, it would
potentially be a bad idea to play this. I feel like, if you
know, if you've played the three previous bar Cry games, like this one
doesn't necessarily do enough to really, you know, make you want to get
with it, And if you haven't played those games, you should play those
games instead of this. They actually I think the sale just ended as of
like the day that this recording is going out, But there was a bundle
on PSN that I noticed over the weekend. There was twenty bucks for Farcry
four and Zombie the Zombie Geez. That's ten dollars. Far Cry four is
an infinite number of betters than Farcry Primal here Zombies all right too. But
I like that game on with you. I haven't played the I haven't played
that before. Four is an excellent game though, Yeah, crucially with like
a really good story that made me want to keep exploring the world and finding
stuff in it and enjoyed it, you know. And yeah, so the
Primal is not without it's it's positive side, you know. But and I
figure, as much as I like the other ones, if it's fifteen hours
and it's more far Cry, like, I'm gonna do it. It sounds
pretty cool. Like I'm gonna say, like to keep in mind that you're
doing it for a price of zero dollars. This is true. Oh yeah,
you're in the sixty dollars thing. Yeah, if you know, it's
a great thing to remember. Yeah, you know, like think about going
out and spending a full retail price on on this thing. Yeah, even
in your specific case, I think that's is maybe not a but again,
yeah, even even setting the cost of entry aside, Like just the amount
of stuff crammed in there seems overwhelming. It's well, the thing is is
it's crammed full of stuff, but that stuff's not the stuff you want out
of another far cry again, you know, it's that's what I mean.
It's it's too much of it. Yeah, it's like, you know,
like I said, I was about thirty five percent complete, So like,
what, maybe seventy percent of that game is busy work. Sixty percent of
that game is busy work. Even some of the main missions felt like a
little more than Yeah, the mission I watched you do was basically taking an
outpost yeah and hitting square on some stuff. Yeah. There there are you
know, multiple missions that are like that that are part of and then there's
like fourteen main missions in the game, but it's not like some big long
thing. So yeah, if they had tightened up a lot of this instead
of like expanding on this stuff, if they had made a tighter, more
focused experience, like something it's similar in theory to Blood Dragon, if not
an execution, I think that that Primal would be a better game that way,
that would serve this idea better. Yeah, and it's really weird.
I want, like you have to wonder, like where the did a team
set out to make another Blood Dragon and then go like, hey, we
need another disc based product for this quarter. You guys should really like I
wonder if there's some story behind the development, because like it just seems out
of balance. It's very out of sync with it's itself, is there and
it's no fun shway, the Yet and the Yang are out in far cry
Primal. Is there anything holding you back from just mainlining the story? You
say there's thirteen or fourteen missions, Like, is it you have to get
this many whatever bolt of things, so you could just you can more or
less just do it. I wonder how long it would take to just do
that. I mean because it sounds like you did a decent amount of other
stuff, which I really think some of that side stuff is the most fun
stuff in Far Cry. So maybe that's a bad idea. Yeah, yeah,
I think that side stuff's not great. You know, I ended up
taking a lot of outposts, you know, and then there are also bonfires,
which are like outposts but way smaller. Uh Like, here's a bond,
here's a stack of wood and three guys around it. Kill them,
spark up the wood, and then here's another fast travel point for you.
Uh So it's like they added outposts on top of outposts, you know.
And you know, the outpost stuff I think is not like it's interesting because
you know, you don't have a sniper rifle. The range is much tighter
than it is in previous Far Cry. But I don't know. The outpost
taking didn't move me. You know, it has all the same stuff,
like instead of alarm boxes, there are horns laying around that you know,
you can shoot or you can you know, throw a spear out to break
from a distance, or walk up and hold down the button to you know,
disarm them like it was an alarm, right, and you can do
the stealth approach to like these whole outposts. Yeah, and you get the
double XP for you know, not setting off any alarms and all the other
stuff. And they'll call in more guys if they can blow the horn.
And there are guys that just have horns, you know, so you got
to get those guys too. And some of them have masks that make you
know, their helmets to prevent you know, headshots. Right, it seems
like there was an analog for just about everything from the game. Yeah,
same, same little icons floating over their heads and everything. Yes, there's
there's like that. That That alone, right there was enough to make me
look at this and go, like, you know what, I want to
be excited the next time they announced a proper numbered new far Cry. Yeah,
and that makes it seem kind of perilous to also play this one a
year and change after the last one came out. I yes, I guess
I would agree with you there, Like it just feels absolutely option well where
I felt that the previous three games were some of the best games that were
out in their respective years, but Blood dragon less, so I didn't enjoy
that as much as some other people did. But for a little diversion.
I think it. Yeah, for a little version, I think it was
was really good. Yeah, and it was different enough, even if like
the humor didn't land for everyone, you know, which you didn't really do
much for me. It played differently and it also had an amazing look to
it. Yes, they did something esthetically really interesting, So I really did
like that aspect of it for sure, where this kind of just looks like
four with less machinery. Yeah, I mean those Farkry three and fry Are
four are some of my favorite games of the past few years, and this
one is most definitely not all right there, you haven't you know, it's
about as definitive as you're get on that one, Drew. I understand you've
brought something to show the class. That's right. Let me throw some words
at you. Did you Did you bring enough to share? Uh? In
fact, yes, because I played Warhammer. Huh. Forty thousand Space Marine?
No, there are space marines involved, Death Watch okay, one word,
Tyrannid invasion Okay, there like dessert rag yeah right, listen up,
giant space bugs. Yeah, okay, I'm from Buenos Aires and I say
kill them all. Well you can on iOS, the only way to be
sure. And on Steam. Oh, the Steam versions like twenty five bucks.
I don't know much about that. When I was playing the iOS one,
yeah, I got full free because it's the app of the leak.
You just had me download that. Yeah during the break? What is that?
What am I currently? Like? Oh? Really? Which is great
because x Com didn't come out anywhere else but the PC. Yeah, so
full on turd based rategy then. Yeah, it was a big grid.
Okay, you move your guys, you got action points? All right,
you gotta overwatch. I'm into all these things. There's not perma death.
Your guys if they die lose their XP that they would have gained that round
because everybody levels up and you got year. There are card packs you can
buy for real money. Mmm. I've not bought one. Mm but apparently
the campaign's pretty lengthy. Does it played pretty well? Yeah, it's great.
It's it's really well designed using unreal engine, I think, and uh
yeah, the like iconography is really good, Like you can tell how many
action points a guy has left, how much health. It's like really clear
and easy to see and appears to be just a lot simpler than Xcom and
not as punishingly difficult. I have heard that it's maybe a little boring in
the beginning, like just a little slow learning the basics, but then like
once your guys level up, then it starts to get pretty good. It
is effectively a complete game. It's not wrapped around free to play style design
stuff. I have not seen much free play grossness. I believe that the
card packs you get are like gear related. It looks like they normally charge,
we're charge and bucks for that thing, so maybe they didn't necessarily sell
it as a free to play thing, and it's just free right now?
How many phones is that game downloading too? In this room? Right now?
I think just yours? You guys, don't no, no, no,
I'll get it later. Okay. It's big, it's like a gig
and a half, and I don't think it works on iPhone fives M,
so okay, that's good. I download games like that on an iPad.
I don't because the iPad is usually where I scamp on the gigs because it's
so much more expensive. Where it's like I'll do the full like two hundred
and fifty whatever gigs on the phone. Whatever the is. It was always
on a hundred dollars separation on both usually. Okay, then maybe my justification
was that I use my phone way more, and then I use my iPad
mainly for streaming stuff or Google docs and stuff. iPad's got a bigger battery,
that's why. Yeah, that's why I like play. You don't bigger
screen. I don't. But I don't play games on the go. I
play them like in bed. You don't like on the commute or anything.
No, Okay, I drive, so I can't. That's true, can
I can't I play games on the commute. It's nice. You should get
with a mask? Uh why does that sound so familiar? Jeff mentioned it?
It's some right, Yeah, that's why Down two of the Mask good.
What is that game like? It's kind of like pac Man two fire
right? Yeah? Okay, yes, maybe it's good. But you slide
around, Yeah, it's good collecting dots high score challenge, then it's good.
I don't. I don't play a whole lot of games while commuting,
but every once in a while, yep, we moved to Drakes. Yes,
Kingdom Rush is a good one. I actually beat World three of Crypto
the Necrod answer on the bus this morning, which is crazy because it's fucking
impossible to play that game on a bouncy bush. Yeah, but here we
are, Uh, mobile games, mobile games. It's like playing video games,
but but on new telephone but being out somewhere. Yeah, I guess
that's how that works. Uh, what else will do? Oh? I've
been let's get our quick weekly street Fighter check in. Oh is it working?
It's I don't know, it's it's I I played some over the weekend.
I got some streamed some for a little while, but most of my
matches did not get uploaded to the server. I won some ranked matches and
didn't get the points. If I didn't, I didn't. I did see
at a point that I think I might have had more LT than you,
or maybe it was on your PC account. I forget, which yeah,
I'm barely playing on the PCs, I forget. But yeah, it's uh,
I really enjoy playing that game. I'm trying to get better at it
by just like being a little more patient. And you know, it's like
I'm I'm not jumping at all, and I'm just jumping in all the time,
trying to just I'm trying to get that part down and then I'll figure
out what to do after when I don't jump, what do you do instead
of jumping? Like like I said, when we did the quick look,
right now, I'm just doing low sweeps, okay, just crouching roundhouse whatever
again, And that's not working out. Actually that I was working out better
than jumping in. You know what, the single most terrifying thing is any
fighting game to me, just walking towards the opponent. Yeah, just walking
toward them. I can't do it. I cannot force myself to just approach
them on foot. But yeah, I mean I'm either going to jump in
at them or I'm going to duck and block one or the other. That's
it. Yeah, that's how I play fighting game. Is the only way
is to play. I don't know, I don't know. It's yeah,
it's you know, when it works, it works really well. The net
code and stuff feels really good. I'm enjoying that aspect of it quite a
bit. I feel like I'm starting to try to wrap my mind around being
a better player, and I don't know, like with the game not working
super well, I feel like the window is closing where at some point I'm
just gonna get so fed up with how long it takes to get into matches
sometimes or you know, like mean winning matches and not getting the points for
it. Like it's, yeah, I wonder how long long I'll stick with
it. But the flip side of this crazy update schedule they've got is that
those will probably bring people back who have gotten frustrated with server instability. Just
don't think my feature, and then the service can be on stable. All
over alls come back. Everybody's going to come back. But yeah, so
it's I don't know, They're they're having a four hour maintenance window on Monday
today, I mean yesterday, sorry, right, yesterday twenty second to say
that we already lived and completed. Yes, uh and hey maybe on the
other end of that it'll be great, right, I don't know. Yeah,
that stuff's frustrating, but it's a yeah, it's it's been cool,
and I spent a bunch of time this weekend actually kind of setting up a
home office. It's it's it's pretty much operational now. It's not pretty,
but it's a TV with a PlayStation four hooked up to it. Do you
have many fridge? No? No, I don't. I don't. I
don't need an office where you do work yeah, but sooda isn't there,
uh, and then I have a fridge full of soot? Does I can
just walk out there and there's all kinds of stuff out there, just like
over the whole point of this is to like actually live in the house,
like instead of like one or two rooms all the time, okay, like
not living like a dorm, not living like I have roommates, like actually
spreading, exploring and I'm exploring our spone okay, okay, yeah, yeah,
my estate, you'd probably get like a razor scooter or something to move
around faster. Yeah, probably probably. Maybe we're probably going to yank the
carpets out of that place eventually. Here, that'll be it'll be a little
more razor scooter friendly once, once we get some maybe some hardwood or something
like that. I don't know. Keeping the arcade machines yeah nice, Yeah,
yeah, though I might. I don't know, Like I have that
missile command machine that's kind of sucked up and I don't really need it because
it's I mean, it's playable, but it's not like I have no passion
for it, So I might look to get rid of that at some point,
I'm not sure. And that smash TV machine still does not work,
right, I need to send emails. This is it's it's all my fault.
Things could could have been different, but it does not work right now
anyway. So yeah, I've been setting that up and now like I so
I went and hooked up the HDMI splitter and the Elgatto and all this stuff.
So that's all hooked up, the consoles hooked up to the PC kind
of permanently, like it's all in one room. It's all you know,
no cables running all over the place. The only problem is now my cable
modem goes into the master bedroom, but I've moved the router into this office
room, so now I've got ethernet running up the hallway. Yeah, so
I'm in a similar situation. Yeah, so mounted mine around the baseboard.
Yeah that's I can actually come to the cable under the base but it has
to run across the whole way to a point where leaving the master bedroom you
are now going to cross that cable and potentially trip. So I was thinking
about it, like should tape it down? Like I just don't. I'm
I'm actually super bad with cable management, Like all my cables are like as
I'm setting this stuff up, I'm realizing that all the cables that I just
already have are like six inches too short to do what I need to do.
So cables start shitty. They're terrible. I hate cables. I am
with you, cable management. It's a giant albatross around the neck and I,
you know, I and I want to see them. Of course,
the Ethernet cable I bought to run from one room to the other is like
about probably about ten feet too long. So now I've got that coiled up
and it's just, yeah, it's unsightly. It's a hassle. So eventually
I'm gonna have to get out of the house and move the cable that the
cable motan goes do push it up into this other room, and then everything
will be fine on that front. It's a process. It's a process.
I have relatively simple tastes and dreams. All I ever really wanted out of
life is to live in a house with wired either neet and like HDMI drops
in every room. That's kind of it. But when HDMI goes away,
what if you wired what it? Yeah, oh you mean hd based t
that's supposed to happen like five years ago. Where did that go? I
don't know. That would make my job a lot easier. Video video over
either neet was supposed to be a thing and it didn't happen. Yeah,
I don't know why. Uh. And then you know what if you wired
your walls with CAT five and then realize you needed a CAT six, We
just do a CAT CAT six right up front? Yeah, I mean now,
yeah, you would definitely do CAT six. But what if you did
it when you first had the idea. I'm saying, like, putting wiring
in your wall that it will be obsolete seems terrible. I've got phone jacks
in most of my room. Fuck that any of them being used. Yes,
I do have a landline, okay, in case of emergencies or emergency
pizza. Okay. I don't know, like I shouldn't have it. It's
forty dollars a month that I'm spending for no good reason. When was the
last time you used it? I don't know. You should cancel that.
It's the phone number I've had since I was thirteen, so it's a nostalgia
forty dollars. My parents are My parents are are faced with the exact same
quandary right now, having a thirty year old phone number, yeah, and
not knowing what to do with it. Yeah, Like I I've had that
phone number since I was in junior high when I first got my phone,
and I moved away for a while, my parents kept the phone because my
mom was using as a modem line or something like that. Like it feels
wrong not to have that phone number anymore somehow. Yeah, And when I
moved back to town, I'm like, I got the phone number from them,
and yeah, but also like now I've had my cell number for a
really long time too, and I don't want to change that, right.
Otherwise I would just take that number. Though that number has been given out
by my hoodlum friends and anyone that knows it. The home one, yeah,
as to telemarketers, and it's on a zillion list, So it just
rings off the hook with bullshit. So I wouldn't want to port it to
anything because then all that bullshit would come along with it. Wait, so
it's hooked up and your phone is actively ringing all the time, I have
the ringer turned off. Okay. I was gonna say, you're paying forty
dollars a month to get like telemarketing cults, yeah, and nostalgia. But
I can look up the phone numbers and go like, oh, that's who
that scumbag was. Okay, you know that's fun sometimes look at these eight
hundred numbers that are calling me all the time. Yeah, I should probably
cancel it. But it's I gave that phone number out on television when I
was in high school when I had a public access show. You know,
that was the listener line. You know, Like, I've had that phone
number for fucking ever. So I'm like weirdly attached to it. But at
the same time, there's zero reason to keep it. There's some way to
retire it, like a Jersey you could hang somewhere. I wish you could,
you know, like no one else could. Yeah, if I could,
like if I could like park it and say, hey, I don't
want to pay you for phone service, but how much do I have to
pay you to keep you from giving this number out to anyone? So I
was actually thinking like, maybe there's a way. Yeah, I guess that's
that. Yes, the actual answer is apparently forty dollars a month. I
was trying to think, like, Okay, maybe I could go through the
process of so I read someone you can't port it directly to a Google Voice
number, but you can port a cell number to Google Voice. So if
I can take this landline, port it to a burner and then port the
burner number to Google Voice, oh wow, I can keep that number digitally
for way less than forty dollars a month. And you know, and like,
the last thing I was holding out on is is I actually get really
shitty cell coverage in the house, and sometimes phone calls to that phone are
not great. But the iOS beta, the nine point three beta that they're
running that I'm running, finally added Wi Fi calling for Verizon, So now
I can do that crystal clear. Fuck everything, Fuck everything? Wait what
is that Wi Fi calling? If your cell signal is weak in certain areas,
it will handle the call over the internet. Whoa, that's cool.
Yeah, and now all the carriers do have it. Wow. Verizon I
think was the last holdouts for a long time. That's that's the type of
thing we had to use that m cell for the old Whiskey office exactly.
Now you don't need them cells. That's an amazing Uh. The only one
thing it does do is is like any voipe solution. It doesn't transmit like
proper location information for nine one one, So when you turn it on,
it says tell us where you are in case of an emergency, and then
it says you should update this every time you go somewhere, and you're like,
fucking no. So if I'm anywhere other than home and have to call
nine one one, well whatever, I'm sure they're used to it. I'm
sure they're used to it. They'll figure it. They'll figure it out that
that's a tech problem that has to be solved. The the like nine one
one stuff. Have you used the what's it called night shift on that data
sending? Good? Yeah, it's fine, it's okay. It's like Flux
work says I've ties it's like Flux, but not Flux, which the Flux
people are not happy. Oh they're not. I read about that stuff.
They were, Yes, they seemed very displeased that Apple did not just buy
them to implement that as opposed to do it themselves. I didn't even think
it's that. I think they just wanted they had a version of Flux fora
iosa. That stuff. It was like install x code. They were I
think they were distributing a binary, then telling people to sideload it instead of
just putting their source out there, which is like the actual thing they're supposed
to do, if it is my understand anyway, Phones anyway, Phones they're
terrible. Yeah, they're dumb. Who cares? Stop talking to Mobile World
congress. Mobile World is more like it Galaxy s snooze. You know what
I'm saying. That's right, Bam, pop shelf material here. I found
my fucking T mobile sidekick while I was cleaning up stuff. Destroy that thing
with a hammer. No, it's too good. It's the last good phone.
Let's get a Microsoft kin Okay, okay, yeah, just find a
way to get it working then. Yeah, we're not side talk on your
iPhone. I mean didn't think so fry. I don't know how well it
would work. Uh Dan, can you talk about Twilight Princess yet? Uh
yeah? The game came out ten years ago. No, okay, I'll
take that as a no. I mean yeah, yeah, I can it
is HD. Yeah. Man, I'm having a lot of thoughts playing that
game. Like seven hours in, I'm definitely in for long haul. I'm
going to beat it again because I haven't beat it since oh six Those were
the days. That's what I'm struggling with is trying to remember back then.
I read my old review, and I seem to be very positive about it
back then, but now I'm trying to see it through a different lens of
you know, it's ten years later. Back then, it was still kind
of amidst all the hype and everything of the week coming out in this whether
or not I liked motion controls, and whether I was trying to convince myself
I liked it, and now being so far removed from it and just playing
it as a Zelda game, I think, Yeah. I mean, my
my primary issue with Twilight Princess, My actual real thing with that game was
that it just, you know, like they established that formula with Acarina,
Yeah, you know, and by the time they came around to Twilight Princess,
like the formula was old. It felt like that they had just kind
of taken the same thing and like thought, like, well, what if
there's a wolf, Like like that was the idea, you know, did
you see that wolf? Did you see that wolf? Yeah? It was
like, oh you see that wolf? Damn, you know, like like
that was the check out that wolf. It's an amibo now yeah, yeah,
so like it it's you know, like it just felt like that they
had to come up with a hook to try to make it different, but
it was the same thing again, you know, and which I think they
wanted to do the same thing because so many people freaked out about Windwaker,
unjustly because that was all awesome. Windwaker sold just fine. Well, yeah,
I know, weird outcry in the backlash from Zelda fan Zelda and all
that shit, and people were pissed off, you remember that after the Space
World demo and every But I feel like when that game came out, like
you know, yeah, that happened a little bit, but by the time
Twilight Princess came around, like no one was going like I'm pissed at win
Waker. I feel like there's still definitely were like amongst like hardcore Zelda fans,
all those people are not hardcore Zelda fans, right, because it's a
great Celtic Zelda game. Yeah I don't. I don't normally like to fucking
pull that type of ship. But if you don't like win Waker, you
don't like the listen of Zelda. Yeah, yeah, but I feel like
that was what Twilight Princess was was kind of this reaction to that weird outcry
against It's like, okay, so you didn't like the cartoon stuff, all
right, let's make like the darkest Zela we've made yet, and it's very
much gonna be like green. Here's hiro Field, Here's Epina, here's you
know, Gana. If some people say epona, I've always said epinaypponapa epa.
See if they if they had made link speak, I solve this problem.
I know you have felt that way and you like that. Well,
it wasn't even necessarily like feeling that way. It was more than like by
the time they got The Twilight Princess, I feel like the formula had you
know, they had made that game before, you know, and what they
were doing to it, I don't think added to it. You know,
they didn't make it dark enough. They the stuff they added with the Wolf
didn't do enough to it, and it just wasn't you know, it was
successful, but it was spinning its wheels. And I agree that they didn't
do anything like I'm not even a huge fan of the Wolf stuff, like
playing again now, like those parts were right, Oh, I gotta be
the Wolf until I get twelve. The thing in that game that is the
rest of it is like check it out. We made another Legend of Zelda
game, and I'm fine with I'm really fine with it. And I don't
know if that's just a nostalgic thing since, like, you know, the
first couple of Zelda game, you know, the first one and the third
one were my first like favorite games basically, uh, and I like just
coming back to that every few years, like, oh, here's this nice
thing that I remember, here's like the beginning of my love of video games
again. You know. It's like, oh, I'm gonna get the four
Heart Pieces, exceph It's five and Twilight Princess, which I don't like.
Yeah, but I mean I like that, I like getting the key,
I like get in the shield, I like it in THEE. But I
look at the progression and go like Acarine of Time, like you know,
invented the format, yeah, for a Legend of Zelda in three D.
I mean know, it built sixty four done, yeah, you know,
but but it built a template for that type of action adventure, action RPG
whatever you want to call it with polygons. Well, but yeah, but
in the basic format is linked to the past three yeah, but you know,
like that was enough of a shift, right, and the wind Waker
takes it in this completely different direction with all the boat stuff and its visual
style, like it's a it's it's a departure in a lot of ways,
while still kind of giving you enough of the familiar Zelda stuff. Twilight Princess
to me, felt like this like regression back to like the safe spot of
like, well, we got this wolf stuff in here, but really we
just kind of made another legend of Zela game and like its visual style is
not necessarily unique, its visual style doesn't really didn't really stand out at the
time, Like it felt like a timid legend of Zelda game at a time
when like they could have followed up The wind Waker was something that went even
further, not necessarily make a cartoony, but like they could have put more
into it. And so Twilight Princess felt like this, like, you know,
back to square one, back to the formula sort of thing. There
you go. I got an idea instead of on the water, what if
you're in the sky. You know, at least they tried, you know,
like I don't like, I don't I don't like Skywards or I'm sorry,
I just I just one of the weaker ones. Yeah, I just
don't like it. But it's still good, but it's it's weak. I
just I just don't like it, you know. I wish there was I
wish it was better. Flying around was not nearly as satisfying a sailing for
some reason. It was because all those little fucking rocks and planted there's nothing
there. You'd get like one chest with like is annoying. Yeah, whereas
like the Islands and wind Waker actually felt like there was something like to explore,
like little cave systems and stuff. So yeah, so by the time
Twilight Princess came along, like I think that like they had done more from
Akarina It's a Windwaker than they did from you know, but you forgot what's
in between those two. That's that's the one that was the most bold.
That's the far cry primal of Legend of Zelda games. You know. That's
that's the Blood Dragon. You know, it's it's the departure game, like
it, you know, whatever, if you get great like it, like
it's top five, top five zone, but it's not even you know,
it's it's it doesn't it's its own weird thing. And that's but so was.
I mean, wind Waker was a weird departure. Windwaker is a sequel,
proper like mainline legend of Zelda game. I mean, Major's Mask is
a mainline Legendor's Mask is like Zelda Guy Den, Dude, it's not even
close. It's it's the same link from Makarine of Time. It's a sequel
to a game that when they make sequels, they make larger changes than they've
made, you know, like everyone considers that. But that's like, that's
like you're sitting there going like you're you're basically defending Final Fantasy. Tend to
make that exact comparison, which are you putting with Jordan in the same camp
as like a Four Swords Adventures or Triforce Heroes or that kind of like spinoff.
I mean, it's closer. Yeah, it's more robust than that,
but it's closer to that than no way than that sort of stuff. And
you can like it all you want, but it's not. It's not the
same thing. It's ten it's totally tend to It's Lightning Returns. It's the
legend of Zell the Lightning returns. But it completely changed. It turned every
expansion it was, it was it was supposed to be expansion would do.
If it was an expansion pack, it would just be like, hey,
here's three new dungeons. That's what an offshoot or it's a remix, Like
it feels like a remix, completely different. But that's what I'm saying,
Like with the existing tools, I mean, you know, with the exist
look and all that stuff, the same engine and a lot of the same
assets, with like some weird gameplay tweaks in it, and it's you know,
it's it's inventive, and they went in a weird direction, and like
I will honestly applaud them for that, even though I just I just don't
think that's a very good game. It's not for me. I'm glad that
you applaud the wind Waker changes though, because that was it's a huge changes.
One of the best games they've made, yea, even with the back
third being a little heavy, which they fixed at the ahde oh my god,
the HD one. If you haven't played wind Waker, that HD thing,
it fixes everything. Yeah, it's so good. So that that was
the thing with Twilight Princess was this feeling of just like, man, they
could their Nintendo this is the legend of Zelda. They could do more and
they weren't, and they were you know, it wasn't about like links speaking
like who cares really, It was more about like, there's more they could
be doing here, And that's actually the thing that has me really excited about
where they're going to go from here, like what they've been saying about the
next game, like because they it's not you know, because when that Twilight
Princess review went up, there was a bit of a then there was a
bit of a hubbub about it, and it was one of those things,
one of those times where like, you know, like I didn't necessarily talk
to a lot of people of publishers at the time because I was on the
review side pretty strictly and stuff like that, but you know, you kind
of hear bits and pieces occasionally back from publishers about like we think you're right,
all right, yeah, and you know sometimes you hear things like,
oh, you know, there's there's people that internally that might acknowledge like,
yeah, it's kind of it's kind of that, right, And that was
that was one of those funny cases of hearing that about that game when the
Internet was on fire about Yeah, okay, it's a formula that they like,
they could be doing more, they could be pushing. It's the legend
of Zelda. For Christ's sake, thirty years this week of the since the
first game came out in Japan, Like, this is one of the most
important franchise is for gaming, you know. And Twilight Princess, I think
was like a wheel spinning move that like was very much not what they had
been doing, even you know, even though I don't like Major's mask,
at least that was like something really crazy. Well, and Zelda historically has
been their big flagship series that they will take risks on because like I love
all the Mario games, but those have mostly played it safe outside of like,
oh hey he's got a pack's in space. Yeah, it's been jumping
on turtles for thirty years. You know, Zelda, they've done weird shit
with from from the first sequel. I mean, Zella two is completely different
than an amazing game. Yeah, yeah, but it's all right, I
mean, you know, yeah, I just but also a risk, yes,
you know, a big departure like, nothing about Twilight Princess felt like
a risk to me. It felt like, you know, it felt like
I said, it felt like them very much kind of circling the wagons,
going like, all right, guys, let's sing to the base. Yeah,
let's make one more of these for the new console and for the GameCube,
and all got pushed back, so I guess we'll put it on the
Wii. So, you know, here's this kind of muddy looking Wii game,
and and that's the the problem that I have with that game is that
it was a formula that had been well established and they just kind of made
another one of those, and the wolf stuff didn't didn't do enough. I
find myself in a weird spot hearing this and that I agree with pretty much
everything you're saying. That they was spinning its wheels, and I'm not big
on the wolf stuff necessarily. I just I think I just like it more
because of that, Like, I think I'm more okay with just like this
is the Zelda. I like Zelda. I like that format. I'm not
tired of it, I don't you know. I'm I'm very excited about what
the next one's gonna be and where the series goes from here. But when
it comes down to it, even just a by the numbers, this is
a Zelda ass Zelda game. I love those so much and everything about it,
you know, the characters and the music, and you know, just
all the familiarity of that. I'm by no means tired of that, you
know. I if they remade just like a new thing in the Aquarinum mold
every four years, I'd play them until the day I died and probably love
them. I think you know that. I ended up giving it a score
that said it was a great game, because you know, it's like by
standards, by most other standards you're looking at and go like, yeah,
this is pretty well made, you know, on its own, on its
own merits, as in a vacuum. There's nothing really wrong with that game.
I'll say one thing though, I've really noticed that in the ten year
gap between the original release and now, horse control has gotten a lot better,
and not in this like trying to control Epin and this after playing Red
Dead and The Witch are games with better horse stuff. It is like Epina
just hits the wall and it's just full like wait for the animation for the
full turnaround and that that's rough. Yeah, yeah, this is a really
hard conversation. But have canu Wine didn't write a song called Penny's I guess
Evan has probably named that because the word ponies kind of in there. But
I've always said eppen, and by god, I'm I'm sticking with it.
If you want to double down on being wrong, I mean, I'm probably
wrong, but I'm not gonna train to way I've said it. No,
Okay, no, that's fine. Eight. But yeah, I'm might go
back to calling him Ryu while we're at it. Dall Ism, dall Ism
gets But yeah, I'm with you on everything. I agree with. I
totally see what you're saying, and then totally valid. I see why some
people would be like, all right, this is the same shit. Yeah,
but I guess I'm just not tired of the same shit yet. Hey,
it's okay to like something and also admitted shortcomings at the same time.
Yeah, yeah, fully valid and and acceptable. Yeah. I don't know
if you remember how things went back then, but apparently it's not yea.
And also they changed the wallet size and now we have bigger wallets from the
start with real real nice Yeah, so it's I just you know, I'm
kind of interested in seeing the game again because I haven't touched it since I
played, because I ended up playing the GameCube version as well, and this
is that, yeah, which I've never played the game pe one, So
playing it without having to do the motion control shit and the world flipping a
better game. It's a better game. I'm really liking it. But you
can also with the game pad do the gyroscope aiming of the arrow and stuff,
which actually works really well. Yeah no, actually no, I really
like that, like especially like the mini games, the target shooting stuff like
that works great. I love that in the three DS remix Vacherina Majora.
It's it's great here. So yeah, no huge overhauls that I've seen so
far, I've always done. I'm seven hours in and I'm not even at
the second dungeon yet, so I'm remembering how slow that ramp up is for
this one. But no, it's it's good, but it's it doesn't overhaul
things the way Windwaker did. I hope that what they're doing next gets away
from if it ends up being like, hey, we've just you know,
hey, it's roughly the same number of dungeons, but now it's in a
larger open world like that'll bet Yeah, that link between worlds. It's some
changes to like the magic system, and those changes were but that's a but
that's a you know, a weird game that's closer to a major's mask than
a proper legend of Zelad. I mean, the big innovation there was,
Hey, you can have all the items right up front and then do the
dungeons and whatever order you want. Yeah, but there are still like it
links crossbow training is what I'm saying. There's still reels like that's not like,
you know, that's what is that there. There's you know, there's
some variability in the flow of the game there, but you're still doing a
number of discrete dungeons one after the other on basically the same mask is linked
to the past again. Awesome, Yes, like it's not I wouldn't say
the change they make is as fundamental as what they need. It's like it's
the real nes remix. Yes, yeah, that's a that's a cool fucking
game. It is good game. I just I don't know, I just
I would really like to see like a grand departure from the structure of like,
hey, you need this mini try force pieces. You know, hey,
what if it was six pieces to get a heart? Fuck it?
No? No? Yes? Before or last before? Well, Twilight Princess
has five, and I don't like that. Hey, well there you go,
justified. So I don't. I think we're both probably excited for this
next one. Whatever the hell they do with it. I mean, yeah,
I think they could totally blow it and make an uninteresting game. I
think there's there's a possibility of that. But I really want to see what
they're doing. Yeah. Uh, and I want to see if it ends
up being a line straddle or if they end up putting it on NX as
well as bet you, I bet they do. Yeah, it worked out
so well for them last time. I mean, it's sold a bunch,
didn't it Probably, I don't know. I don't know if they go back
to that, well, but we will see. Yeah, but no,
it's not a well, it's like like who cares, Like, you know,
if they have another platform coming out, they might as well put it
on. Yeah, there's no reason not to. I want them to.
I don't want them to do that because I want to feel good about buying
that. We you and I don't think I'm gonna feel good about buying that.
We you if I could have just played the new Zelda, I'm the
next console. So let me get this straight. More people are getting access
to a game, and that's making you angry. Not that's not necessarily what
we're saying, you know, tweet to me mode, you know, more
to the point you kind of want to feel like they made it appropriately for
and to the strengths of the platform they put it on. You know,
like like you said, like in the process of moving Twilight Princess to the
Wei, like you ended up with a WE game that didn't necessarily look like
a good game by the WI standards. True, you know, it's true.
And the motion controls did feel tacked on, right, right, Yeah,
like that like the right the waggle for the basic attack it was just
a bucking. Should have been a fuck. It was fancy, but that's
what I mean. Like they fixed that in the Year of Motion plus with
Sky in that transition, Like you're you're bound to lose some things when you
take a game that was intended for one target and moved to another. You're
right, yeah, you're right, uh, I mean, and I don't
really have a problem with the way. You you know, I think it'd
be interesting to see that game in both places, because that'd be like a
and a hell of a way to kind of kick off the NX. But
whatever it's, I I hope that they are making something that you know,
isn't just a larger version of what they've been making and really kind of take
it to some to a different place. Sure, I think we can all
get behind that. Last thing I'll mention real quick is that I've been plinking
away in Plants Versu Zombies Garden Warfare two. You guys saw on UPF because
I showed it to you. I did, Yes, you did saw that.
It's a real game that just seems like a vastly expanded version of the
first game version. I loaded it up and it played danger Zone. I
mean that was a trailer that they put out. It's it's in the game
as well. Yeah, it's over the over the kind of there's an initial
cinematic that not a non cover versions in the game they licensed. They licensed,
it's in the game, and it's in the game. Uh. You
know, they've added classes, it's a ton of new maps, like the
there's a quest system. Now, there's a you know, a big hub
you can go out and do stuff, and the hub seems is baffling.
I haven't Yeah you have a menu to have to walk around this big,
unwieldy thing like it, it's no one needs that. Well, but yeah,
I need to spend more time with it and figure out exactly what the
purpose of that thing is. Yeah, because because both factions, bases and
this kind of neutral like battleground in the middle are contained in that one map,
and I'm not sure what the benefit of that is as supposed to just
having a nice speedy map but or I mean men you deal with. But
anyway, that that's actually technically out today, so like beyond the access people
playing it earlier, like it'll just now start getting actually populated today. So
I will spend more time with that this week and we will do some stuff
with it. I like stuff. Stuff's good. All right, let's talk
about the news this week. It's it's pretty thin, uh in the world
of headlines other than the first one, which is kind of a big piece
of news. The HTC five has a price. It is seven hundred and
ninety nine dollars, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than I thought
it was going to be a lot of dollars. I mean it's a lot.
But is that with the whole room thing and all that. That's why
I like house two controllers. That's exactly why I think it's Yes, I
mean yeah, I mean it's it's got the basically yeah, like yeah,
Effectively this is coming with like room size, positional tracking, and two motion
controllers which the Rift, neither of which the Rift has two hundred dollars extra
correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't know, this headset would presumably
be able to do everything the Oculus can. Yeah, like that that I
think really remains to be seen, right, Like if there's a common software
platform, if if all games for one will work on the other. If
I keep in mind that Oculus has a publishing division and their own storefront where
they will be publishing games, so there's a possibility that those games may not
work on vibes but purely on a TEP. But I don't but I don't
know stuff everything. My understanding is that doing the work to make it work
on both headsets is not difficult, right, unless you're taking advantage of some
of the specific unique features of some of the stuff, because like the Vibe
has the camera up front that'll let you do like you could potentially be used
for like an AAR type scenario, right, and and that sort of stuff.
The room sensors may play into some of that to a certain extent.
The the Oculus Touch controllers won't be available at launch, so you know.
And also so this is Yeah, it's seven eighty nine and it's hitting in
Uh they're saying early April. Damn. Yeah, just which is not long.
Yeah, the drift it's like a month. Shit. What I find
kind of perplexing is that it only requires one USB two point zero port.
Yeah, I th things like four, doesn't it it needs like and one
two or something like that. Yeah, And those, how things do not
hook up to the computer. I think, so those are just like the
headset is sensing those. I wonder then if because it has that, then
it doesn't have to do like the way it's tracking is somehow less intensive or
something and doesn't have it require as much data to be crammed through it.
Yeah. I don't know that it is. Yeah, that that is one
of the more confusing is it become one of the more confusing aspects of this
stuff. Uh yeah, it's uh, it's been interesting seeing people react to
the price because people are just comparing it directly to the Oculus price and saying
like, oh, well, Oculus got him on price. That's a cheaper
pacts like it's you're getting such a different Like it'd be like if the Oculus
packed in two of the touch controllers, right, you know, it is
basically what you would be getting with this Vibe packs. Although one of the
one of the main selling points in this thing, the positional tracking, seems
like it's going to be a thing not specially useful for a huge number of
people. Yeah, Like the amount of floor space just open, Like you
need a room in your house devoted to this thing to get the full right,
Yeah, so to do full advantage the room scale experiences, the way
to call them and then that that's the and it's that's been the aspect that
they've been pushing the most with the Vibe in terms of just like how they
demo it and the things they talk about. It's very much about like,
hey, this room. Yeah, yeah, I guess that's that is the
big thing. Don't get me wrong, it's super cool when it works,
but like it is awesome wires, so many extra variables to be in place
to work right, and so like I think even if I ended up with
a vibe like, I don't know that I would set up yeah, for
for I don't know if I'd set up for that situation, because it just
doesn't seem viable for this whole office I'm building, for example, it's not
big enough to do any of this stuff in Like I I could have a
standing VR experience and when you take a couple of steps in any direction,
but I can't walk around a fucking room like that job simulator thing or whatever.
You're just like standing and like the tiny little kids something, and any
seated experience obviously, you know, any kind of cockpit based thing like,
no problem. But yeah, wouldn't you like to have the option? Yeah,
I would love to have the option. Yes, absolutely be like,
oh, I'm gonna take this somewhere, going on to the park with my
VR headset. You know, I don't know what. I don't know where
I would go. The thing is the garage. I could take the car
out of the garage and fucking put up tens of barriers like a movie theater.
If R is going to become the going concern that it's being propped up,
as there will be plenty of time to have that option later, you
know, right, and stuff it's not going to be the going concern for
is a little bit, right, So it's this is all stuff that's still
even even after this stuff is on sale, it's still somewhat theoretic totally,
Like yeah, for for me, the quality that's it all starts and stops
with the quality the headset For me, like, sure, I want a
which part the display the whole experience, But yes, I mean, let's
let's assume the tracking is probably going to be roughly equivalent. I doubt you'll
be able to tell a lot of diff it's there, but like, I'm
sure there's some people will but like, yeah, people that are pretty far
down the rabbit hole already would probably know. But yeah, I in my
experience with I guess I haven't tried the final vibe, right, that's the
thing, Like I like I want a bunch of tech sites to get both
of them in for review and spend like an exhaustive a number of hours saying
Okay, this one feels better, this one's got a better headband, Like
this one. The optics are slightly like Sharper on this one, Like comfort
is going to be a big thing, you know, Like like I saw
I forget who a field of view is one of the big differences right between
them. Like I want an exhaustive breakdown of all that stuff before I would
even think about deciding which one to get. Yeah, I mean, honestly,
if I wasn't a Kickstarter backer of the Rift just to get one of
those things, your decisions kind of made already. Yeah, Like if if
they weren't sending me one, I wouldn't have either of them. But get
it wrong, If I could go back in time and back that Kickstarter for
three bucks is a nice price for that thing and get one of those things
d K one we barely used it, I would do it. Like I'd
still feel like that was worthwhile and I just wanted one of those so we
could cover that stuff, Like hey, yeah, sure, yeah, it's
there's just so much left to even knowing the prices and what the base package
is going to be, There's so much left to determine. Are there any
release dates set for like notable game the Drift is launched, day Job Simulator
were packed in with the Vibe along with contraption factories. That's called Contraption Maker.
Oh that's the thing that they demoed were yeah, okay, you were
having trouble, that was the thing. It was broken when Yeah, yeah,
awesome. Yeah, they're there are a handful of games that are starting
to get to get have their dates be firmed up. But yeah, a
Drift is launched day on Oculus. Drift sounds really cool, but like you
know, guarantee you can still have a good experience with that game on a
big TV. I mean, well, the you know, it seems like
the hook of that thing is going to be it's it's you know, it's
a personal story, it's a right, you know, like that aspect of
it seems like that that that's the reason I want to play a Drift.
It's it's not necessarily that it's in vr R. That that's a fun that'll
probably a fun, cool way to also play it. But do you say
job simulator is built in I mean it's packed in with the you know,
that's a really good pack end. Yeah, like that's that's again of the
sports that shows off the hardware. Yeah yeah, yeah, so that's yeah,
And now I just wonder when the touch controllers will hit for Oculus and
what price they will be if this two hundred dollars difference is if that's just
like hey, our touch controllers or a hundred bucks pop. You need to
them done matched, yea or or what. But in some ways you have
to wonder if this makes Oculus look better by pushing off the touch right,
and just so that just so people who aren't in the know on any of
this stuff look at the prices and go like, oh, yeah, but
price price is fucking huge, you know, like it, but it at
the same point, Yeah, difference, but that's at the same time,
like it's hard. It's hard to imagine. Yeah, it's hard to imagine
anyone waltzing into the VR space and it's like what's the cheaper one and buying
whatever it is or actually, I mean doing any investigation to realize that there's
a difference in what you're doing. Antic video card too, right, yeah,
yeah, man, if anything. Yeah, like even Oculus is positioning
itself as a premium product with the like nice carrying case it comes in and
all that stuff, like you know, free Xbox one control. Yeah,
like if you want your free yeah, if you want, if you want
your like entry level, lower cost of VR solution, it's going to be
the Morpheus, right, I don't know, it'll be gre VR. I
mean yeah, but that only works with like two kinds of phones right now.
Okay, Right, So that's the other thing is is I guess I
saw some news saying that along with this new this new galaxy, like if
you pre order their phone, they're throwing in a gear VR. Weird.
Wow, that's not a bad deal. Yeah, I wouldn't mind having something
like that if I was already in that ecosystem, you know, Yeah,
could be cool to have. Yeah, part of me still wishes that Apple
would do something similar, just because, like, like I said, I
used the gear V already three last year and was like kind of impressed with
it. Yeah, yeah for what it is. So that so that's the
sort of thing that can start to cover the low end. It's it's weird
because you wouldn't necessarily like think of, like I'm getting a phone specifically to
do this stuff, but it's also my phone, Like that's that's a it's
a I don't know. Wrapping my mind around that is actually harder than it
should be. The phone, and phone also has the huge key advantage of
not being tethered in anything. Yeah. Yeah, that's going to spin a
full circle wearing that thing. And and then yeah, I am totally not
writing off like mobile VR at all yet as a as a factor. Yeah,
but then also yeah, PlayStation VR, and I don't know what that
thing I'll be priced? Who knows. I'm give two ninety nine to three
ninety nine. It's got to be one of those. I mean, they
straight up said it will be the cost of a console. Have they given
any kind of general timeframe like it is this year? Right? I had
said first half, like first half the last thing they said, so basically
everything's gonna be out by the summer, right if they hit their first half
date? Yeah? Yeah, yes, uh, and we don't really Starbreez
is right that thing I have no idea? Yeah? Oh shit, yeah
that Walking Dead thing? Is that Starbreees? No, yes, they bought
the rights making that thing over kills the Walking Dead VR or whatever. Yeah.
Yeah, And then what isn't there like the open source the osvrs.
And then also another headset I hadn't even heard about that. Yeah, is
that like a roll your own or something and not quite I don't it's yeah
there that'll that could be be potentially very messy as the stuff goes on,
you just hopefully won't blow up into a full on format war U. Yeah.
I mean, like even philosophically, people like Palm er Lucky You've been
out there saying like, you know, we don't we don't see our competition
as the competition. It's like the making the argument to the public is the
thing that we're actually fighting against, you know, like they can have those
larger fights later. That's they've convinced people that VR is worth owning. Yeah,
it's it's all in their best interest to make it as friendly as possible.
But yeah, I want to say it was norm from tested I saw
talking on Twitter this morning about like feeling like the Rift was maybe a little
more comfortable than the Vibe or something like that might be uh, misattributing that
quote, but like it raises a lot of factors that you don't think about
off the cuff, you know, like you just look at the feature list
of like, well, this thing has two controllers and positional for extra two
hundred dollars, so that's probably a better deal. But then like, what
if two weeks in it turns out that like everybody thinks the vibe is like
kind of uncomfortable or like over the rift, it's the drifted, you know
whatever, who knows what's kind of in. Yeah, like we will see
once these things are actually in people's hands, which one actually rises. It's
crazy how close we are, and I'm really excited to see how it goes.
Like, regardless of how it goes, so, I'm really excited to
see how go. I don't know how it's going to go. It's crazy
to think that we're sitting here talking about this stuff, you know, as
if it's like a done deal, right, and you know, like the
the notion that this stuff like works and that you know, it's if I
hadn't tried it, I'd be sitting there going like this is all bullshit.
They're gonna you know, it's like no, no, this is actually this
stuff all works. Now. Have they said anything about their marketing as far
as getting chaos up or how they're going to present us to people. I
mean, they're Prey're gonna be pre sold out for some time. You know,
they're gonna open up pre orders. I want to say on the twenty
ninth. Is that what this story was? Let's see, and then you
know they'll start shipping in early April. But you know it's not like I
don't think everyone who pre orders one will get one day one. That's the
rift was similar in the you know, as people started to place pre orders,
it started to you know, your ship day started getting pushed out.
Yeah, yeah, twenty ninth and five pre orders Leap Day, Leap Day,
yep, Magic Leap Day. Magic Leap is gonna come out that day
and just say fuck it, our ship is out. That would be awesome.
I'm gonna stick with the Leapster. Thank you a good call. Yeah
yeah, cast my lot. Just strap a leap Star to your face.
It'll be fine. Hey hey, hi, remember one the other side Entertainment
bought the Rice system Shock and announced they would make a system Shock three.
Oh yeah, yeah, okay, I guess who's now working on System Shock
three. Warren Spector, Warren, Warren the Specter. Oh, Warren Spector,
Warren Specter, not that push one. Yeah, but yeah that's cool.
Okay that flew away over my head. Yeah he's yeah, that's you
know, they're they're doing Underworld Ascendant, which is the ultimate underworld kind of
spirit dam System Shock three, which is the actual system Shock successor starring Mickey
Mouse. Yeah, but you know, yeah, he was around for all
that stuff in one capacity or another. Equ This says he was a producer
on the original system Shock. Yeah, but also he made DSX, you
know, like he has been steeped in that style of first pression RPG for
a very fucking long time. If you put his name on in the games
warre Inspectors, like where it actually appears in the official title syer situation,
I don't believe that's the case. Yeah, not that I can think of
warre Inspectors the Epic Mickey Right, I don't think so. God right,
Yeah there were two of those, weren't there. Yeah. It sounds like
he's been doing some some teaching since uh right, ye see, since Epic
Mickey two came out. I would learn from War Inspector. Yeah, totally,
that would be interesting. But yeah, I guess there's not a whole
else to say about that other than I think it's super cool or you know
it definitely, it absolutely gives a new system Shock a pedigree, yeah that
it kind of had already but like that's just kind of the you know,
it's neat's like, all of all the names that you would want attached to
that thing they owned by anybody. I don't believe. So did they buy
the rights to system Shock? Yeah? I don't know. If you were
a story from a while ago, yeah, you might not have been on
the podcast that week. But I believe the rights were in the hands of
an insurance company in Michigan, which sounds like the dumbest thing you could come
up with to explain what happened to system shock, But apparently it was true.
Wow, anyway, were losing it in a poker game. Maybe they
just maybe they just had a copyright to the term system shock as through use
of like some kind of insurance policy, like oh, it's a real shock
to the system, and you get this insurance rates. We use this in
our radio ads, and apparently we own a video game now because we did
it before they did the video games. I don't know. Wow. He
mentioned Show Dan in his quote about being excited to go work on this thing.
I am Show Dan excited. It's just crazy. So he said,
yeah, basically exactly the quote I'm looking forward to sharing with players. What
Showdan has been up to since the last game was really yeah, I mean
they're their count on teaser and stuff was like show Dan's voice and stuff.
Really yeah, that's considering how the last game ended. That's see how that
works. Although I really think that you kind of can't, especially if you
were making a System Talk three in that era, you can definitely make that
move. Yeah, but now this far gone making an appeal to people that
liked those games. You're right, you have to. You're right, you
have to. The way they brought her back for two, like you know,
vanquished her at the end of the first one also, but the way
they brought her back for two was fucking incredible. Still one of the best
moments ever in a story based game, Like I will stand by that for
ever. You guys don't even know what I'm talking about. No, Yeah,
it's amazing, amazing. It's one of those games that I tried to
play, uh like, tried to go back to that I hear about.
I haven't even looked at like a lot of the graphical re remake like overhaul
type mods. I don't know if you were using any of those, like
even in its day, it was not a looker. Really, even by
the standards of nineteen ninety nine, it was not a great looking game.
It just felt kind of clunky. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, this is
what I was Oh my god, that reveal is so fucking incredible. I
should talk about it some other time. I would take a while to go
through. Right now. I only have one other story. It came out
of dice. Uh. It's about Bethesda. It was revealed by Todd Howard.
He says they are working on multiple other projects at the studio at the
same time that they are working on Fallout four DLC. We actually have three
kind of long term, longer term projects we're doing that are all dash.
We'll talk about them at a much future date. But they're different than anything
we've done before, while also being a Bethesda style game, big and crazy
in many ways, different than things we've done before. So Cyberpunk. They're
developing it now. I think they got it from the Witcher guys. Yeah,
I don't know. I don't know what that is like. You know,
their games are huge, but they also have been pretty vocal in recent
years about how their studio is still relatively small. Yeah, and compared to
the scale of their games. They're like a hundred and people in change or
whatever, which is like tiny for the size of their games. Yeah,
I would, Yeah, it'd be it'd be cool to see them get out
of the loop of Elder Scrolls, fall Out, Elders Scrolls fall Out right
especially, I mean Elder Scrolls Online probably being this other thing that's out there.
I wonder if that kind of pushed them away from just going right back
into another Elder Scrolls influenced their decision making, although you know, they could
be spending up on another Elder Scrolls as speak. Yeah, maybe the same
time, and so other stuff is going on. Who knows what that stuff.
He also mentioned that I forgot that they have a studio in Montreal now
which is part of the Festa Game Studios, which this says is just gonna
be helping out on mobile projects like Fallout Shelter and the Elder Scrolls card game
that they're working on Scrolls. Yeah. Yeah, So anyway, some potentially
some big interesting things coming from Bethesda. But who can say Dice is not
really a place to make big announcements. Yeah, no, you just get
a little take your public announcements at Dice. You make the deals that lead
to the big public announcements later, right, Dice. You get some little
tidbits here and there out of interviews, but that's about it. Pretty quiet
week for news overall, but not for emails. I'm gonna read some emails.
Okay, it was a slog, but I managed to get some emails
together. Okay, Yeah, it's your favorite part of the show. I
like tumblers. M Well, any emails. Will talk about that later.
Stephen in Edinburgh has a burning question the red thing on Yoshi's back. Is
it a saddle or shell? Shell? I shamelessly bought the Mega Yarn Yoshi
amibo and placed it on my desk in my office, sparking much debate about
what exactly that thing is. It's convex with a white trim, but seems
to serve no purpose. If it's a shell, it's a removable shell.
I think it's a saddle. I'd have to look at. You can sit
on a show, doesn't have to be a saddle. Yeah, Mario was
thick overalls. It's not gonna hurt him. He can sit on a shell.
I guess, yeah, that's gotten padding. Yeah, yeah, it's
a shell. Jeff, I don't care damn it. How many dinosaurs of
that size? I have shells? None? None. I'd have to consult
my amibos, but I'm pretty sure it's a shell. I think I've always
assumed it was a saddle. I thought it was a saddle. I mean
Super Mario straps and stuff, right, Super Mario World, which is the
first and still canonical, Yeah, Yoshi design anyway, a picture? All
right, Well, you work on that. Okay, here's an email from
Ian from Manchester. Now the Super Mario maker has levels andy costume from the
rom com Mango slash anime Nissa koy. I just wanted to check in and
see how you feel about inadvertently giving your Game of the Year award to an
anime game. Seriously, though, I find it pretty fascinating that Nintendo was
easing up with regards the use of its IP and crossover potential. This is
probably one off, but I found it pretty great. Uh. How we
went from some saying Splatoon reminds them of squid Girl squid Girl two straight up
getting official squid Girl DLC Force Splatoon for now. I like that. Nintendo
just seems to be having fun with this. What yeah, no, yeah,
they see yes, they it's I like that they are rolling all that
stuff out worldwide. Yeah, like still like characters that you're just like,
fucking what is it? Right? Right? I was looking at that sprite
on your screen the other day, going like what celebrities and yeah, that's
cool, it's cool. I like it. Also, it's it's that game
brings the world together in peace. Yeah, where's yeah? When when when's
the leak levels? I want to point out here, I'm showing Brad a
picture. It's totally a shell. That's not a I don't know what that
is, clearly a show. Let's like fan art or something. What do
you god? This is official Yoshi art. That is a show. Go
back to that original brand document or brand bible that had full his full name
in its hottest although and the old and the old Mario world art. It
looks more like that is absolutely a fucking side. Will I will agree that
looks like a saddle canonically a saddles. No, yeah, there's no bump
to that. Yeah, that totally looks like a saddle. And the more
recent arts, the more recent art, yeah, dam with Brad. Fuck
the more recent haven't you integrated the crucial lesson that things that are old are
better than things that are new. They're can be really good things and both.
No, that's how it works telling you, uh, okay, we're
shooting this podcast on film. Yes, oh good, Yeah, it's expensive.
Apparently all of these emails are coming from Europe today. Uh Stacy from
Bristol in the UK. As an email, I'm going to be developing and
releasing a final and soon to be defunct version of All in a House software
tool. When I inherited the maintenance of the tool, used Mario as the
icon, and we used it to identify the version of the tool. We
have gone through versions using Yoshi, Luigi, Wa Luigi, and Toad.
What Mario characters should adorn the final version? Toads worth, Toad's worth Boo,
it's a ghost because that thing's dead like ghosts. Okay, alright,
not bad, not bad. I would have said while Luigi, but they
already used that. Toadsworth is old. He's the guy that in Mario Sunshine,
when you spray with the water, he goes blah blah blah blah blah,
and he's got a mustache. He's got the white mustache. Now he's
a mushroom Kingdom Toad. Okay, Toad's a race and a guy. Yes,
okay, yeah, sure, it's the old wise Toad. Uh.
Kids of Peach Peach okay, hot social network. I think that would lead
the brand confusion with the app. People think that you're launching Peach and you
wouldn't want that. Still never letting into know audit your office. What if
it was just funky Kong? Alright, alright, yeah, yeah, it's
like the idea that this guy works in like the dry driest like accounting firm
in history or something, and then they have to refer to Funky Kong every
time they're doing whatever audit the software is used for mail Stacy, Yes,
I believe so I know they were male Stacy Stacy Keach. Yeah. Oh
of course, based on the picture that was attached to the email, which
is a weird thing, but you know that's what Google does these days.
Yeah, it ain't all gravitars anymore. I've still got my gravatar though.
Nice. Every once in a while it'll pop up on something. Still,
where's why did it? Where did that thing get pulled from it? That's
scary stealing. Oh oh, it's just a gravatar. Yeah, right,
it's just a gravatar. Ye indeed, Wow, this emails from William H
from Sheffield in the UK. They're gonna say, Williamsburg. Based on rumor
and possibly leaked images, it seems that the PlayStation VR will have a breakout
box between the headset and the PS four to help carry the hefty requirements of
VR games. Do you think they're any possibility this breakout box could help buff
up the power of the PS four when playing non VR titles. I'm not
talking about anything crazy, but perhaps the PS four could offload some tasks to
a breakout box for slightly better frame rates, et cetera. An N sixty
four expansion pack, right yeah, Like it's the it's the thirty two X
all over again. Like you can't can't design around something that only a small
subset's going to have, right yeah? What developer would be crazy enough to
spend the time to build that right functionality into their games. It's not some
automatic power boost? Yeah yeah, that's always the standard answer to questions about
using things to make consoles faster, And yet still the questions, I don't
even know how that thing's gonna plug in, because must be ports. There's
the camera port. Yeah, yeah, I mean I wonder if that's a
high that can carry data fast. I guess there's no. There's no USB
on the back of that. There's there's two on the front, yeah,
camera port in the back. Heard. I don't know at all. Three.
Oh man, I actually have no idea ethernet. Also, my understanding,
based on talking to some developers who have developed on that thing, is
that it doesn't have like a GPU in it. It's not like, yeah,
it's it's more like a doing the positional tracking stuff, handling the input
stuff that that otherwise the CPU would have to busy itself with more importantly,
Why don't we call breakout boxes bobs? Mmmm mmm? Oh yeah, okay,
it's right there. All right, well this is right there. Since
you're full answer today, Drew got some questions for you. Here's an email
from a different Ian. Actually it's two emails. Drew, what is dry
shampoo? Can it be trusted? Who does it work for? Then minutes
later another email came in from Ian. I don't trust it. I don't
actually know what dry shampoo is. I imagine it would like bind to the
oils in your hair and then you brush it out. I don't trust it.
No, there's there's been some dry shampoo in my home on occasion.
So there's the thing. So ladies take time with their hair, and so
sometimes it's easier for them to not necessarily wash it because then it requires a
full redo of how it works. I have a lot of hair, so
yeah, yeah, I assume, like you know, men with longer hair
probably have a similar situation. I use a lot of conditioner. It's getting
expensive. I Sean Koonts once, I believe, said that he didn't wash
his hair every day, and at the time, I was washing my hair
every day and I stopped because it was it's good enough for Sean. Yeah,
good enough for my fucking broke ass uh. You know, to let
that oil build up a little bit and stuff like that. That's why I
don't everything. Yeah, it's natural. You want some of that. And
I was liking where my hair was going once I stopped washing. Yeah,
so you don't even get it wet. I'll get a wet Yeah, when
you don't. On the off days, you still get it wet. Kind
of massage with your fingertips or whatever. It's like. But if you you
know, let's let's say you know if you're if you're like straightening your hair
or curling it or something like that. You know, washing it means you
have to do all of that work again. But what if it gets like
maybe slightly dirty, oily or something. I don't know. I don't know.
Dry shampoo is something you can use in that situation. Apparently, I
don't know. I don't trust it, but I've seen it used. Neither
does he. And it turns out i've seen it used. It's not much
trust for dry shampoo around here. I can't blame you. Just Pert Plus.
It's fine, that's all in one. I don't know. Just it's
a green bottle in your findings. Don't you just like pour that all over
your body? No use a damn bar soapen purt Plus, nobody like that.
I don't like that. I use a bar soap and pert Plus or
like head and Shoulders off brand, because it's the same thing, same active
ingredients. All that stuff just save money. One thing is shampoo, one
bar soap. You're seting. I nothing more than I will say that I
appreciate a shampoo with conditioner in it already, I guess I still don't know
what conditioner does it conditions? What does that mean? It makes your shame?
Why does that matter? I just wanted to be clean and not stinky,
Like why you're not feeling my hair? I mean, well, someone
else your hair grows. Your hair grows, uh in such a way that
it's fine to leave it like that. My hair is really fine. So
if I don't condition it and it's all just dry, it'll like spas out
all over the place. I'm sorry we're talking to uh yeah, yeah,
cuts down on yes, right, yes, that's an important distinction to make.
It cuts down on the frizz. You don't have frizzy. What I'm
trying to say, place when your kid is tough seul yeah, out of
control? What's the way? Is utilitarian? Is that the word where you're
just doing the stuff? Yeah, you're just like, I just don't want
to stink. I don't ever care about cosmetics or looks like. So if
I don't need conditioner, if I just care about not stinking, right right,
yeah, okay, then I'm not gonna get a conditioner. All right,
Okay, that's money saved, like on your I thought the whole point
of purt plus was the it had conditioner in it. I just think it's
shampoo, isn't it. I found Per's whole thing is their whole selling point
is that condition I want to take the plus out and save somebody. Huh.
I would just buy another shampoop working all over the floor. I think
right now I am using green Apple store brand head and shoulders. So maybe
I was using a Garnier fruit tease for a while because I liked to citrus
smell in the morning, and then it was it was a nice orange ish
kind of lemony, kind of citrusy sort of thing, and I thought that
was nice in the morning. That's the one with the weird plastic bubble on
the top, right. Yeah, probably, I don't know. Yeah,
it was a while ago, okay, but he didn't have a conditioner in
it, so I didn't trust it. It's not a lot of trust for
hair care products in this room, and it shows I'm finding yes. Uh.
Next emails from Gavin does not say where he's from. It's probably the
UK sheffield Shire. Probably still sound like a uniquely American problem, but I
could be wrong. Recently, Pepsi has changed its recipe and no longer contains
as pertain Yeah. While I understand why Pepsi made the move due to health
concerns. No, because they're fucking suckers. There are no fucking health concerns.
But they've tested the shit out as pertase. That's what they want you
to believe me. Yeah, away, he says, I no longer enjoy
the taste of the soda more. As as I know, Jeff is a
big diet Pepsi drinker. I wonder if how he feels or I'm sorry,
I wonder if he feels the same about the change. Can you recall any
food or drinks that you once really enjoyed but I have lost the taste for
because of the recipe change? Tricks tricks. When tricks get went into fruit
shapes out instead of just balls, didn't they go back to balls? Yeah?
But I think the recipe didn't change back the flavor the changing. The
consistency of the cereal got a little harder and a little more waxy, and
to the taste of the fruit. Flavors changed, and fuck tricks. Unfortunately
I was still good. Nah, I can't. I can't deal with tricks
anymore. It's not my thing. I fell off the tricks wagon at that
point in the eighties early nineties, maybe because you were a kid back then.
Yeah, and then at some point they're like, oh, you fucked
up tricks, Fuck you forever, silly rabbit. Yeah that's a shame.
And yeah, they put in PEPs so they took out the aspertain and I
don't know, I don't know what they put in. It's something else,
something else, uh, splenda, I don't know. Yeah, I think
it actually is. I think Splenda is like this genius marketing play where they
convince people that it was something other than just aspert team. Yeah anyway,
yes, they they are now the around the pepsi logo on a diet pits
candas is no asperta And I don't understand diet soda like I could never understand
the different play like dirt, Like like why did why did Coke zero have
to be conceived in a world where diet or Well, it's because that's a
marketing thing where they feel like dudes don't want to buy diet soda because it's
it's it's also a different artificial sweetener, isn't. Yeah, there's a taste
it tastes. It tastes quite a bit different than dietco but from the marketing
perspective. That is the thing. That's why you saw stuff like doctor Pepper
ten, it's not for women, and like because they thought that guys had
some weird stigma about drinking a diet. There's only ladies diet, right exactly.
It was like, no coke zero, it's in a black can.
It looks manly, it doesn't that thing. Doesn't that Doctor Pepper actually have
ten calories? Yeah, that's that's why it's it's called doctor Pepper ten.
They had that. They had to give it just a few calories just to
make you feel like a man. They would say in the commercial ten manly
calories. And the tagline was literally doctor Pepper ten, it's not for women.
These were commercials that came out like three or four years ago. I
really yeah, it's like it wasn't like a Super Bowl campaign. I think
bullshit. YouTube there's there's a guy like fly fishing and wrestling a bear's where
he's like driving like an ATV through a four shooting a grenade launcher or something
like. I'm not making this up. Women could do all that except drink
doctor Pepper. So that's right, those calories are just right. No girls
allowed where the backwards are on it. It's a fucking clubhouse and a can
you have piece of shit. So I'm a dude and I don't want to
do any of those things. Yeah right, I don't know. I would
shoot a grenadela well, that might that would probably be fun, But I'm
not gonna hang out in a stream or fight a bear. And I've still
in water before it was it was it was not unpleasant, kind of nice.
It's lept about the ankles or so it's tolerable. Yeah, it's not
as good, but I kept drinking it and its and it's the yeah,
And I feel like they fucking won and I hate it. I feel like
they only changed it because they got pressure from people that are like good as
Pertain's gonna kill you know what it's like. You know, it's fucking not.
It gives people headaches, like no, like they test the shit out
of it. If you want to tell me that, like you like,
go all the way with it and say, like, you know, I
believe in the conspiracy that they're falsifying the ass pertain Like okay, then fine,
if you want to be one of those fucking people, let's just settle
this once and for all, let's just get John Drake. Put him in
a lab. He's fine, got the electrodes, make sure, make sure,
make sure, if he's healthy. If he's healthy, then everybody's fine.
Exactly. He's the canary in the coal mine, all this ship and
everything's fucking fine. You should probably just keep a camera on him twenty four
seven good option. I would watch that. Yeah, sure, I ah,
some sort of tracking device. Yeah, we probably keeps habs on where
he's going and why when I would I would if I if I did switch
away from diet PEPSI, I don't know. I guess diet barks. Yeah,
I don't always want to root beer and there's no caffeine and die barks.
Yeah. Also yeah, but also like the caffeine, I don't think
I am noticing it at all. Like I'm you know, I'm drinking like
large iced coffee drinks on occasion, and nine times out of ten it does
Jack ship. That's my new thing is we have the free ones here and
I didn't take advantage of it for like the first year and a half I
worked here, And now that I drink coffee, it turns out that's really
good. So I drink iced coffee all the fucking time. Now it's great.
I yeah, all occasionally have a coffee or an iced coffee or something
like that, and if hot caffeine will affect me, but I had,
so I've been drinking rock Star recovery for a while now, the same recovery
for like hangover. Is that what? I think? That's the secret implication
that there is, like, hey, you fuck up, you are wasted,
still to go to work, dumb ass, drink one of these.
It won't actually help, but hey, it's only ten calories per serving?
Are they manly calories per serving? I mean it's a it's a refreshing lemonade
drink. You tell me. Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is
so good. Uh, certainly they don't have it in Finland? Really,
yeah, lemons, maybe some finished people can write in that's weird. Do
you have lemonade there? I so I went over the weekend and had to
get some energy drinks because I was in a bad way where I wanted some
energy to drinks. I didn't need a menage, like I'm gonna go to
the store and didn't. I didn't have any. I got a rock star
recovery and I got a rock star punched and I drink the punched. Shit
fucked me up. Man. Yeah, there's something about the full bodied like
non you know, because the recovery on it is like ten galleries in or
something like that. I don't know what, if what else the punched has
in It's it's like a fruit punch. I like a fruit punch. I
drank that thing and I was I was good to go. So I think
it might be a situation where maybe I just have to rotate energy drinks every
three years or something like that when I get to this weird point where it's
like I'm not I'm just not eating it like I used to, and like
I have, you've taken enough of the poison and now that you're immune,
you need to move on exactly. Yeah, it's and and so now when
I when I drink a Red Bull, it actually does something to me again,
which for years it didn't. And one time I drank enough, I
think I got a peptic ulcer. Wow, that sounds bad if you drink
too much tourine. As it turns out, if you drink too much Red
Bull, you can that can happen. And me and Ryan and this guy
Ben, we each bought cases of that concentrated red Bull, the tie tie
red Bull. I've still got an unopened one of those in a drawer somewhere
that's about eight years It's good. It tastes like red bull syrup. It's
like concentrated red Bull, and it's not carbonated or anything like that. And
so I drink twelve of those one sitting wow. And then Ryan and Ben
split a twelve. And then the next day we went back to the store
for more, and the woman saw us getting them, and she's like she
realized we had just bought them, and she's like, no, no,
no, no, like didn't didn't speak the best English, but was very
much, very adamant that we did not drink all of those, did you?
Yeah, no, I didn't. Didn't drink a second case. He
went back and got more for whatever else he was doing. But then after
that we went to a taco bell and one of those guys used to work
at a taco bell and he knew how to get just the Mountain deuce syrup
out of the fountain, like you hit the little switch in the back.
Okay. So I drank like two ounces of that after drinking twelve of those
things, my stomach herd for like a month. It was all. I
couldn't drink Red Bull for years afterward. It just it just didn't. It
held no appeal. That's that's unfortunate. And then I slowly got back on
the train and everything's fine now. But yeah, apparently if you take,
if you get too much of that in your system, it can lead to
a temporary a peptic culture. Careful, temporary sit careful with tie Red Bull's
potent. Oh yeah, that shit, concentrate, She'll do it for you.
I wonder if you could still get that around here. Probably surely someone
has it. Yeah, oh, I'm sure. Like I would love to
have some. I kind of want to go fund somewhere in the Richmond null
bet sells it. Yeah, probably probably. I would love to maybe somewhere
around japan Town or something. All right, Email from Jack in New York.
Yes that's a good place. Uh, Jack says, have you seen
the thousands of people commenting skate four on every single post on EA's Instagram account.
If there's ever a time I've seen social media used to send a message
positively, this seems to be it. Let's hope, EA take notice.
I mean there's probably like two people maybe right, I don't know, it's
just the their their account is just Ea on Instagram. We should go check.
I would look, he says, I don't know. He makes him
sound dire. We're gonna fact check this situation right now. I thought it
was kind of funny, but I mean yet, if you remember, there
was like the kind of beauty pie whipped skate three back into the main stream
right a year or two ago. So I think it's just eight has taken
on kind of a myth mythical quality. Okay, this some extent. Uh
Ea posted this little picture and says who's ready to play hashtag pvzg W two
tomorrow, hashtag video games, hashtag games, hashtag gaming. I'll play that.
God comments like okay, there are there are three thousand, three hundred
seventy eight likes here and the comments okay, first comments, I'm ready for
hashtag skate four at eau frownie face or like like like disgusted face that's from

he trying to say that? Did you make a skate before card game?
What do you think these kids are trying to get at? SETH Beckley says
skate four please. EBAs eighteen says yes, I think they want skate four.
We'll see what this other thing says you can play. You can play
hashtag pvzg W two on EA access in Origin access this weekend. Hashtag video
games, hashtag games, hashtag gaming. I feel like that's they should spell
out the name of their fucking game in their own thing, because like,
what is you know, maybe you don't know what that means? Kids like
acronyms. Load more comments, Load more comments. It's hard to actually load
all the comments on this thing. Jack Kelsey says Skate four will end?
Isis I mean when you think? Jack Kelsey says Skate four will bring my
father back? Heavy expectations. Tom Howard with an extra D says, hiya,
I would like Skate four asap, as soon as possible. Please.
It's really a necessity to my day to day needs. Without it, I
will likely starve our parish and my analysts struggle to survive in this god awful
land of de kay cheers, EA, thanks for listening. X x x
X Vanilla Jamie says, skate four. My boy, mister jigger X says
boy yea, you keep shitting out games left and right, but where'd that
Skate four at? Yeah? That's ten Gage says skate four or you hate
America. Jack Kelsey's back and he says he hates America. Then Jack Elsey
had followed up said unless Skate four, the people have spoken. I think
Desmond Butler twelve WDS says, release NBA Live Mobile in the US unexpected turn
Skate four. Do you think they will make a Skate four? There is
an Instagram account Skate four with the EA logo says Skate four eight twenty three
sixteen prayer to tighten your trucks. The franchise is back like never before.
Fifteen followers. They're tweeting to look like skate three screen shots with four hastily
placed that posted on there. That's cool. Yeah, if we searched the
skate four hashtag, you get two thousand, four hundred and eighteen posts.
That's right behind skate four Jesus three thousand, four hundred and sixty five posts.
I think the people want their skate. Do you think they will make
a new skate You know, I there's a groundswall of support. I would
love for them to make Skate four. Yeah, maybe it's time, But
I wonder how many people from the previous games are still there and where they've
moved to, Like you know, we've said it before. It sounded like
that some chunk of that team went on to actually do plants versa zombies garden
warfare. Right, that's right, So hey, they know how to make
games, it seems. Yeah, the skate games are good. They made
a great skate series and then they made a better than it should have been
spin off wave based multiplayer shooter. I think that the release of Tony Hawk
five actually the kind of salt the earth and when it comes to putting out
a skateboarding game at all right now, and it's like you'd think that might
go the other way, and people are like, oh, they're clamoring for
a great skateboarding game. But I just don't know that enough people cared about
Tony Hawk one way or the other to necessarily give you a lot of like
faith in the market to really truly come out for a quality skateboarding game.
I just don't know that the interest is there in a in a wide sense,
in a wide scale. Sure, they should do it, though I
would love I would love to see them try. No guarantee that would be
a great game. Kate It was not perfect, It had some issues,
It had heart though definitely right, Yeah, I love the intro movies,
the just a great set of games. Like the idea that EA, of
all companies, would come along and ride the cotails of the skateboarding video game
craze and actually do something interesting and different with it. Yeah, I mean,
you know, not just making also ran just kind of like glombing onto
the success of something else. Well, I mean they took a very if
you think about it, they took a very EA like approach to it,
as if it was an EA Sports release where they're like there was they were
trying to make something that was a little more authentic than Tony Hawk. You
weren't busting out the pizza boxes and bullshit okay, fireworks out of your ass
while you're grinding. It wasn't about that. Uh, And it was those
are some great games. They should make Skate four all right? This podcast
is spoken hashtag skate four. Uh speaking of me up on the Grand Yes,
there you go, slash ea. Uh. Here's another email about the
EA Sports games Extreme Sports from Jacob in Bellingham, Washington. I was just
wondering if I could get your consensus on SSX tricky versus SSX three. Oh
man, Okay to it. Tricky is the second game. Tricky is the
second one, which is a lot of the same courses that were in the
first one, like Tokyo Megaplace, and I think a lot of the really
good courses came back for two. They had more characters, and they went
harder in the kind of wacky direction with the uber moves and everything, and
played its tricky. They played it's tricky when he got your uber moved,
and then there's stuff like the guy with the afro doing the worm on the
board and everything too. Tricky was more of a upgraded one, definitely better
than one, even though I loved one. Three took itself a little more
seriously. It was all like it's a big gimmick. Was it was all
on one giant mountain and they're just different paths and stuff, And I think
you could conceivably like start from the top and then go down and they were
like checkpoints along the way. Like I want to say that might be sex
three I'm thinking of, but no, no, that the final courses when
we're just drops you at the top and it's kind of almost more open the
way you go down and everything. But yeah, I think you could like
some courses were just like, we're going to attach this one to this one,
and it's really long, and it's got the trick stuff, the trick
mode, the race mode. Shit. I remember remember loving the hell out
of three and at the time thinking it was better than Tricky, but this
far removed. I'm struggling outside of the Mountain gimmick to remember exactly what it
was. I know, control wise and everything, it was just right.
What do you think of the reboot? I did not like it. Seein
that makes perfect sense because yeah, didn't just call it right. I didn't
like it. I ended up kind of liking that game, and I don't
like any of the other SSX game. I immediately hated the stuff where it's
like, oh, here, you gotta wear this thing for when it's like
warm, getting the shadow and or this is gonna break off. Like it
did not feel like their structure, with all the like timed tournaments and all
that stuff, seemed like a bunch of really cool ideas. I but the
actual snowboarding, you know, I was not. I don't know, I
just don't really like most snowboarding games. Yeah, I love three. I
capped it off like fuck everything else. Dark Stummit, the Snowboarding Sea Dark
Summit, and maybe Snowboard Kids. Uh yeah, I man spend so long
since I've played three, but I do remember thinking like this is the best,
and they actually made Tricky better. But I am struggling to remember what
the things were outside of that Mountain being pretty cool. But two was more
gimmicky. Two had like the big pinball type levels and stuff like tokey Megaplex.
But they're the first three are incredible fucking games. They're great. Didn't
like on tour they did a yeah, and that's more where you could.
No. I think ontour might have come to the w Two on tour,
I think is where they brought in skis. I think there was a separate
one downhill Jam was Tony Hawk. I think there was a separate we SSX
or maybe that was just on tour. But I didn't like that one.
But the first three are fantastic. Yeah, they were doing different because they
did skate It for the Wii, so they were they were kind of doing
slightly different takes on some of that. Maybe on tour was just we exclusive
and that's what I'm thinking of. I don't I just remember not being into
it. And really being into three. So there you have it. I
love those games, all right? Two more emails. What do you say?
Sure? All right, Drew? Yeah, when it's targeted squarely at
you, I can feel the laser beam on my forehead. Emails, all
these red lights in here, it's still all devil daggers in here. Yeah,
we're gonna walk outside that door and it's gonna be a giant wind,
giant skull with poor deal with ram horns. I really liked it. I
really liked it too a lot. I couldn't do this every week. It's
it's it's nice for this week. Did a shift to orange it's a theme
week? Nope, it's not orange now because it seemed to although although the
second that you said that, now it looks orange, it feels it's like
Denver Broncos orange. Here. It looked very red to me before, and
now it looks now it looks it was totally red before. What's happening to
our eyes? We're all dying now you see it. We only see it.
The only thing that we'll save us. As more emails uh from Kevin
Drew previously mentioned them the side effects of one consuming an excessive amount of fiber.
Let me tell you what happens when someone consumes too much protein. My
wife is a scenographer and has always been attempting to manage my protein intake as
a weightlifter. I never took the advice seriously until she's a stenographer sonographer okay,
like a like sonogram type person. Yes, I never took the advice
seriously until she showed me a recent example. She scanned a weightlifter who came
into the clinic with a complaint of quote back pain. After she did an
ultrasound on him, it was revealed that both of his kidneys were filled with
massive kidney stones, so big, in fact, that they took up most
of his kidneys. Like both his kidneys were solid rocks. There was no
way he could ever pass them. So we'll have to go under the knife.
A sap, drink plenty of water. Don't eat a dozen eggs for
breakfast, lift heavy. Wow, thank you, that's a lot of protein.
Jesus, Yes, that seems bad. Eat a dozen eggs for breakfast.
They just fired sound waves at the rocks to break them up. Oh,
I don't know, maybe I think it was probably not smaller ones.
I don't know, I don't know. That's I don't know that. Oh
God, I'll tell you. Probably you would probably see the stones, gall
stones, all that sort of stuff. That is you probably stilling passed the
little fragments. Yeah, supposed to be. I think you got a lot.
It's supposed to be horrifically painful. I feel like I've heard how painful
that is. That if I felt that I was for sure about to pass
a kidney stone, I would like just tell my girlfriend, like, take
me to the hospital, tell me I'm having kidney stones, take them out.
I gotta take care of this now. And then I would just run
headfirst into a wall until I was passed out, and I hope that I
just woke up in a hospital bed with no kidney stuff. I don't know
that you could pass them while you're out. Well that's what I'm saying.
While I'm knocked out, have her cut you open, and fuck, let's
get the morphine going. You'll be fine. Seeing in dead Wood where he's
passing word it seems like the worst thing in the world. One of my
roommates had them and was passing them in the kitchen into a cup because he
was told to like keep track of him or something what. I don't know.
It was a cup that I like drinking out of. It was really
it was really fucked up situations all around. That's really messed up. I
like that cup. You don't like win something if you keep your stones.
Hey, I I don't know what his situation was period. Better not to
ask, yeah at this point, all right, One more email from Josh
and Adelaide Australia. Hey, guys, I'm listening to I'm listening through the
bomb cast from the beginning, and it's funny to hear Jeff and Ryan talking
about the band from first to Last being exploited by Guitar Hero and doing a
tour where they stop the show and play the game live on stage. This
is funny because the singer went on to become Scrillics. I guess he likes
the feel of pressing buttons on stage a little too much. Huh wow,
fact void for you. Yeah, that still sounds That still sounds awful.
Idea of someone breaking down mid set and playing guitar. I don't remember anything
about that. Boy. That sounds terrible. I thought i'd throw that in
there, Steven Jogg, didn't he men? Yeah, no, that's unfortunate
for Scrix. I wonder he got away from that ship. I don't I
don't really know exactly what you would have meant about being exploited by a guitar
Hero. I mean, like the business deal of agreeing to fucking play guitar
Hero in the middle of your fucking set. Oh, I thought. I
assume there was some aspect of them having a song in the game or something.
They may have also, who knows, maybe they also had. They
probably also sit into the band from first to last. I don't know.
Before Screlex was SCRELEXA, he was in some bands. Apparently this was news
to me. I don't remember that from the set list, but who knows.
Yeah, anyway, it was not the first Guitar Hero was one of
the Oh oh, okay, all right, oh god, you're right.
Actually, I guess Guitar Hero would have been around for a little bit before
that started, right now, I remember, all right, that's it for
emails, I have the tunnel or open. I'm say, let's do like
three what do you say? Okay, uh, make it more red in
here? I have if it's getting if we're gonna get there, it's pretty
benign this week. Actually, okay, like shockingly actually all right, it's
actually having a hard time finding. Oh no, now the page won't load.
Come on Tumblr. I don't even know what this means. Squidly diddly
or a great pape? Great pape? Is that ringy bells? Yeah?
Squid did walking squid walking off tops? Great pape? Was it was a
cartoon? Or was it a great bape? Great Bape's that's wrong? Great
pape? Except that he except that. Now there's probably stores called vape ape
and any liquids called a great vapee. Yep, so that's been ruined for
a generation, for all generations. Congratulations, assholes? Uh darth vapor Jeff?
How is how is Cody actual coming along? I don't even know what
that is? It's not okay, Yeah, this question's weird. Well we
ever see the binary domain license again? No? No, no, no,
I'll come on on with her big bow. Yeah, sadly, I
believe we've seen big bows last rodeo. Actually, they should make a game
called big I would definitely play that. Would you rather be called fam or
Simpie? Fams Family? What a simpie? That's an anime thing, right,
Yes, my god, they're both anime things as you try hard.
Yeah, I don't know, there's Okay, that's a good point, yep,
I go with fams virtue of not being anime. Okay, sure,
I want Austin to call me fam. Yeah, that's who can call me
fam? Okay, what's it? You're putting your foot down? Mm?
Everybody else can call me SIMPI and I the only one who thinks it's time
for jazz jack rabbit three. Yeah, there was a time when I thought
that that would be a great thing to do, and I feel like that
time that window closed. You're probably right, got that forgot that fancy launcher.
Now maybe maybe it'll be a character in Paragon. I could be behind
that. Sure is the Big Show actually the vape king? Yeah? I
don't even know what that means. I shouldn't have been asked. Big Show
vapes still my most popular. Took a picture of Big Show vaping at the
Hall of Fame. Wow, and people seem to really like the man vaping
and destiny huh like yeah, wow, it's living the life, I guess.
So sure, get yours Big Show, Dan? Why do you follow
Donald Trump? Oh? Just to see that bullshit, he says, Okay,
like just all right, morbid and kind of hate follow the thing,
you know? Yeah, yeah, great, Uh let's see do you follow
his vachen sao? Yeah, no, I've got a few hate follows on
there. Yeah. Numerous people asked this week if Kanye West is the modern
day Andy Kaufman. No, No, he's not self aware in doing this
on perfect Yeah. Or I mean he might be, but not to a
level that any comment was doing a very different thing. This is not this
is not that sure. All right, that's gonna do it for all of
our correspondence for the week and thus the podcast. This room isn't exceptionally red.
We're gonna have to get out of here before we burn to death.
Are you turning up the intensity of these lives? I feel like I feel
like I'm seeing you're watching the lights do things and it's terrifying. Oh things
like oh no, don't you Okay, we definitely have to go down.
It's that's it for the jib bodcast. My damn tongue, that's oh my
god, thinks every color all at once. I think I'm gonna throw up
right now. Instagram does a video, right boy, It does. Yeah,
well I have to get out of this room now, So thanks for
listening. It's gonna do it for the Giant Bodcasts. See you next week.
Thanks bye, see then,
