That is Rich Davis jingling and jangling through the rain. 00:00:44 Speaker 4: Let me tell you, I uh not to sound I feel like a big weenie even saying it. 00:00:48 Speaker 2: But why is everyone driving so fast? 00:00:50 Speaker 4: I don't cat dude, like I got those little profile tires on my car. I feel like in pouring conditions like this, people are maniacs. 00:01:00 Speaker 2: Does anyone care about their life? Yeah? You know, in Los Angeles it rarely rains. 00:01:06 Speaker 3: When it does, the roads get extra slippery from the oil, and people forget how to drive, and I guess what you're saying is on the run flats, it's even more difficult. But yeah, I'm not experiencing that. It's actually kind of blustery here in Idaho and Potato Land. Blustery day today. What is it like a gorilla monsoon going on? And right now gorilla monsoon? 00:01:27 Speaker 5: Wow, there's a tornado watch, a tornado watch in southern California. 00:01:32 Speaker 2: But here's what I don't get. 00:01:34 Speaker 3: I've been talking to you guys all week and I haven't heard any mention of this until this morning. 00:01:38 Speaker 4: I have East Coast family and friends visiting later in the week, and I feel so bad. It's not that I'm you know, Mother Nature at father time, but I'm like, hey, I'm sorry. It's like sunny and beautiful ninety nine percent of the time and you're coming during a rainstorm. 00:01:54 Speaker 2: Wow. Hey, good luck everybody survive, enjoy the holiday, and let's dive into it. Hope. 00:02:02 Speaker 3: You know, a great night last night, Let's have a great day. Let's have a merry Christmas Eve again. I'm Steve Cavino. We got Iowa Sam on the glock, Iowa same dressed up like an elf today. 00:02:14 Speaker 2: Uh, no one else got a memo. Yeah, you know, I feel I feel lame that I didn't. 00:02:19 Speaker 4: I was gonna wear a red Christmas Santa hat to go with my forty nine ers red and I failed. 00:02:24 Speaker 2: It was honestly, it's so. 00:02:26 Speaker 4: Miserable out I'm not going to talk about it the rest of the show as we fill in for the great Dan Patrick. But let it be known, Southern California never rains, and it is honestly, like Danny said, tornado warnings. 00:02:36 Speaker 3: Well that's true, rich, right, weather talk is right up there with your fantasy sports team and what your kids are up to. Yeah, no one really cares. So let's forget those topics. Yeah yeah, but I get it, I get it. It's it's badau. 00:02:47 Speaker 5: I've heard, by the way, you can sign up for our college football playoff bracket. 00:02:51 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, I want to do that. Let's do that. 00:02:54 Speaker 4: Hey, sign up, do that and get involved Fox Sports Radio. 00:02:59 Speaker 3: Uh dot, I know, rich, people don't care about your bracket. They only care about their owns, so no one wants to hear about that either. Yeah, but we do appreciate you signing up because you have a chance to win thousand dolls. 00:03:10 Speaker 2: We'll tell you all about it. But hey, Danny G. Great to see you. 00:03:13 Speaker 3: He's on the phones at eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Everything at Covin on Rich and the live chat is up Covin on Rich Finsar so you could see what you hear again. We're on five to seven on the East Monday through Friday, two to four on the West and always a pleasure. 00:03:30 Speaker 2: To be here in for Dan Patrick. Let's dive into the storm lots to get to today. 00:03:34 Speaker 4: We're gonna talk about classic moments in sports and whether or not they hold up. There's a new tradition in the NBA with the Spurs. Is it corny or super cool? We'll get to that. We'll talk a little boxing. Jake Paul's in the news as an update with with the Paul brothers. But you know what, Danny hit me up with the meme this morning. I want to start with NFL because that's where we're at. I mean, look, man, we're my Niners hoodie. Danny G's rocking his Raiders gear even though what are they three and twelve or two and thirteen? 00:04:03 Speaker 6: Ashton genty offensive rookie of the year. 00:04:06 Speaker 2: If they won two or three games. I saw that. You know, we have an abundance of stink this year. 00:04:12 Speaker 4: You know, there's a lot of parody in the league, but there's also a lot of stink and a lot of double digit win teams. 00:04:17 Speaker 3: No bro, a lot of stink, A lot of stink, a lot of stunk. Come on Christmas time. 00:04:21 Speaker 4: You're right, because I was like, who's gonna get I was taking a look. I was like, who's about to blow? Because every year there's a team that's about to get the number one draft pick and they win a stupid game, and it's like, ah, what do you do? 00:04:33 Speaker 5: You mean, like, we we have the Battle of the two and thirteen, So the Raiders and the Giants playing each other. 00:04:37 Speaker 6: What do you do? 00:04:38 Speaker 2: Yeah? I was like, some team's gonna f up their own draft picks. 00:04:41 Speaker 4: But as of right now, the Jets are three and twelve, the Browns are three and twelve, the Titans are three and twelve. Danny G's Raiders are two and thirteen. The Raiders are only equally suck matched with the Giants who are two and thirteen, and the Cardinals are three and twelve. So there's a hell of a lot of suck at the bottom of the NFL, and one of those teams will unfortunately win and that's not a good thing, which is like the opposite of everything that you know you're productively trying to do. 00:05:08 Speaker 2: But there's a lot of suck. 00:05:09 Speaker 4: But let's go to the top of the NFL com You know, you you saw this meme that Danny g sent us, and it's a common sentiment every year. People say, yeah, well there's schedules week and the answer to that is always, you only play who's on your schedule. You don't determine what you do. You don't determine who you play. You don't you're no team picks their schedule. So there's a list of who has had the easiest strength of schedule this NFL season. And let me just let you tell let you know, all five teams are in the playoffs. 00:05:44 Speaker 2: Well, Rich, you started your radio career as a top forty host in DJ, so you got to start with number five. 00:05:52 Speaker 6: I just want to remind you. 00:05:53 Speaker 4: I mean, you want me to like Paul Spider Harrison or Casey kasem Er Rich dies. 00:05:58 Speaker 2: You know, I was thinking about the Wolfman Jack's and Casey case of. 00:06:02 Speaker 4: Do you better, by the way, do you like Casey Rick D's yeah, Rick D's Yeah. 00:06:06 Speaker 2: I forget what's. 00:06:08 Speaker 3: Well actually, Casey case and bet you know, I was thinking about how we're feeling in for Dan Patrick and we're streaming live on camera and everything. So I had to comb my pompado early in the morning and you. 00:06:19 Speaker 2: Know, to get ready. 00:06:19 Speaker 3: But if you were Rick D's or Wolfman Jack or any of these guys cousin Brucey, you just strolled right in. 00:06:25 Speaker 2: Man, it didn't matter what you looked like. No one ever saw those guys. 00:06:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, you think Mike and the mad Dog call their hair. I don't think mad Dog still comes his hair sometimes. Yeah, it looks like he doesn't. 00:06:36 Speaker 5: Yeah, Mike, my grandma still thinks Wolfman Jack is black. 00:06:41 Speaker 2: I had a love yeah Jack. Number five Rich that shirt you're rocking right now, Number five. 00:06:50 Speaker 4: The forty nine Ers, who have a clear path to the number one seed this Sunday, we're gonna we're gonna break this game down later. I feel like the forty nine Ers Bears Sunday night is gonna be so telling for both teams, for everyone else watching. Fans of other teams are gonna watch the Niners host the Bears Sunday Night Football after Christmas. You'll be chilling out in that confusing week where you don't know where the hell you are on what day it is, Sunday ninety grassy Knoll of the holidays. Yeah, I think you could say taint, right, the taint of the holiday season. 00:07:21 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, because it tain't quite Christmas and it tain't quite the New Year. 00:07:25 Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll be watching Niners hosting the Bears. But let's let's talk about it right now. Number five, Number five, the forty nine ers. They're strength of schedule, a four point fifty eight winning percentage. 00:07:38 Speaker 6: Yes, if their opponents win percentage is four or five. 00:07:40 Speaker 4: Their opponent's win percentage slightly under five hundred. So when you say, man, the Niners, you know they're eleven and four, where a clear path to number one if they beat the Bears and it's then it's a game for everything against the Seahawks. 00:07:54 Speaker 2: Here's the thing, though, I said that at the beginning of the year, So I knew. 00:07:58 Speaker 4: My Niners because they at a struggle year last year, we're going to get a weaker NFC schedule, and they did, and they capitalized on that. I remember saying that ten and a half eleven total games spread in Vegas. I was like, yo, slam me over because they played No. 00:08:14 Speaker 2: One this year. But again that's not on them. 00:08:19 Speaker 4: Number four with an opponent winning percentage of four to twenty. 00:08:25 Speaker 2: Oh, the Chargers. 00:08:29 Speaker 4: Justin Herbert looking good, Horba coaching himself to the playoffs? 00:08:34 Speaker 2: Do you believe in the Chargers? 00:08:38 Speaker 3: Well, dude, I want to go through the list before I give you my full seven here, because two things can be true. Yeah, you gotta win the games you're given. You can only play who's on your schedule. That's all true, and that's all fine and dandy. But as a fight fan, if you're beating a bunch of tomato cans, as they say in the in the game, in the business, then have you really been battle tested? 00:09:00 Speaker 2: That is also true. The Bears does matter. 00:09:04 Speaker 4: The Bears have the second weakest schedule in the NFC. Their opponent's winning percentage four twenty. I'll zip through this. Your top two are your two best teams in the AFC. Number two the Broncos got an opponent winning percentage of four thirteen and get this, to. 00:09:24 Speaker 1: Quote one to quote Timmy, No bricks get this number one. 00:09:31 Speaker 4: The Patriots opponents have an under four winning percentage three ninety one. So the weakest schedules in the AFC. You're talking about the Patriots and the Broncos, and here they are sitting in the number one and number two seed in the AFC, Which is why the parody in the NFL is great. 00:09:51 Speaker 2: You struggle, you got a weak ass schedule. 00:09:54 Speaker 4: The next year you have that advantage, and if you could take advantage of that advantage, we are Danny GM last year. Look at the teams that we're talking about. The forty nine Ers and Bears are two teams. I remember last year, Kayleb Williams under delivered. Remember they started all hot and everyone's like, ooh, Kayleb Williams, and then they failed down the stretch and the forty nine Ers were decimated with. 00:10:16 Speaker 6: Injuries after the Hail Mary. 00:10:18 Speaker 4: Remember the Hail Mary where the Bears start, they thought they won it. I think they lost like every game after that. And then in the AFC, the Patriots were on their downturn and the Broncos had an off year because that division was just you know, more competitive last year than the Chiefs and everyone were dominating. So is that just the way the NFL works or do you think we're looking at some soft teams that might be a little inflated? 00:10:44 Speaker 3: Now do you want the truth, the boring answer, the boring answers will never know until we see it play out, right, because matches, styles make fights, matchups make games, And that's really the truth here. The truth is we don't know, and that's the yes, that's no, Yeah, we don't that's the real boring answer, and that's the truth. But right now they're looking good. They haven't played a really competitive team to show us otherwise, or their schedules has been a little easier than others. So this is no knock on, you know, so you gonna say, Rich, it's a soft number two for the Broncos, a soft number one. 00:11:27 Speaker 4: The path you know, not to knock FS one or ESPN. You know, you look around at the TV's in the studio today and yesterday. The conversations are could the Bears make a run? Are the forty nine is for real? 00:11:37 Speaker 2: Hey? Could Sean Payton and the Broncos? 00:11:39 Speaker 4: Because everyone's questioning these teams that turned around pretty quick there, they got good paths to high seeds in the playoffs, but their schedules are all among the weakest. Again, you could only play who's on your schedule. 00:11:55 Speaker 2: That is. It's not a knock on that. 00:11:57 Speaker 4: That's a sentiment that we've talked about for years. Actually, you know, wrote down tired argument or legit point when people say things like that, like, well look who they played, Well, it's like, dude, you don't make the schedule like you know. 00:12:10 Speaker 2: It. 00:12:11 Speaker 4: So what the forty nine has played the Titans and the Cardinals and that's who's on their schedule. 00:12:16 Speaker 3: But there's no diggity, no doubt that that matters. It absolutely matters. Like I said, compare it to fights. If you're looking at someone's fight record on their Wikipedia and it's a bunch of no names that they beat, what does that prove to you? It proves nothing. It's who you beat and how you beat them, you know. And Okay, if you really want to are they how are they fundamentally right? And in the top five are pretty solid fundamentally So that does factor into the equation they could go for. Any say it doesn't matter is false. It absolutely does matter. 00:12:51 Speaker 4: We were doing that college football bracket for Fox Sports Radio if people want to play a long Yeah, it's like the NCAA tournament every March. There's a team that's their part of the bracket. People will argue like their paths were the final four is week and it's like, no, they just st of lucked out. A couple of teams lost. There was an upset here and there. What are you gonna blame them for having a little luck on their side? Dude, if you go to a bar, not to be all pervy. But if you go to a bar and every other dude there's a weenie. 00:13:24 Speaker 3: You can't say not to be all pervy and then be pervy all the time. But I'm saying who you are. 00:13:29 Speaker 4: That's saying if you, if you, if you're a single guy and you go to a bar and every other guy there is a loser and you go home with some hawk girl? 00:13:38 Speaker 2: Really, is it really you? 00:13:40 Speaker 4: Or like your you know, your competition is weak ass like competition and sometimes you've. 00:13:44 Speaker 2: Got to capitalize to you. 00:13:46 Speaker 4: But isn't that what we keep saying about the Buffalo Bills, Danny g and the AFC, Like man the chiefs had it down yere and you know Lamar's heard and. 00:13:54 Speaker 3: But That's what I'm saying, Rich. It's always that this or that conversation, especially in sports. Two things can be true, Right, they have week schedule, they're playing who they can. But yes it does matter, Yes it does matter. 00:14:06 Speaker 5: Also, something we should think about is some of the teams, when we looked at their schedule before the season began, We're like, oh, that's gonna be an insane game, and then that team winds up having a really bad season. Nobody saw it coming, like the Commanders for instance. Of course, you know we didn't think they were gonna be what four and eleven right now? 00:14:24 Speaker 4: If you saw the Commanders on your schedule. In fact, I'll be truthful. When I looked at the forty nine Ers, as you know, if you don't know Covino and Rich, I'm Rich forty nine Ers fan. When I looked at the final stretch of the season, yo, mid season, I was like yo, Monday night in Indianapolis when they were like seven and one, eight and two. I remember thinking like, oh, man, well there's an l on the schedule. Because at that time you're like, man, Daniel Jones is cooking, and I remember thinking like, all right, well, when we put an L. 00:14:53 Speaker 2: That might be an L. 00:14:55 Speaker 4: And then you know, fast forward, the run game dies in Indianapolis. Jonathan Taylor goes from running for one hundred and twenty yards a game to like seventy. Philip Rivers is the quarterback and the team can't win. So I get what you're saying, Danny g It's all circumstantial too. Someone probably saw on their schedule, Like, what's the Chiefs game on Christmas Day? 00:15:15 Speaker 2: Is that against the Chargers? 00:15:16 Speaker 6: Yeah? 00:15:17 Speaker 4: You don't think the Chargers circle that game like, oh man, that's good, that's gonna be a big one. 00:15:21 Speaker 2: We're playing the Chiefs on Christmas. 00:15:23 Speaker 4: And now the Chiefs on Christmas is a team led by a quarterback that no one's heard of because the stringer Mahomes is injured, Minshew's injured, Kelsey is talking about retirement. Andy Reid's more worried about, Uh, is there a good eaterieson near the new stadium in a couple of years like that? 00:15:41 Speaker 3: That is you're right that moving to Kansas is the biggest story surrounding that team right now. 00:15:46 Speaker 4: Yeah, so with its with all that said, With all that said, I think it's hard to judge a team for something they can't control, but it is something to note. And when you look Cavino at it's funny because I look at other people's power rankings and then I realized they're just a bunch of dopes like you and me making their power rankings. Like I can make power rankings right now, I'd be like, all right, guys, it's rich Davis's power rankings, right and I can make up some bs. But when you look at everyone else, you're like, man, dude, wonder if they're taking this into account. I'll tell you what my power rankings. These teams are still winning games when they have to win again. 00:16:25 Speaker 3: If you just joined us Covino and Richard for Dan Patrick easiest strength of schedule this season, rich is forty nine ers or fifth Chargers forth the Bears or third, Broncos or second and the Patriots and number one with the easiest strength of schedule? Does that mean we have to change the words again? 00:16:45 Speaker 2: Is it not? Drake May is the man? 00:16:47 Speaker 3: Drake May is the man? Drake May is the man? Is he the man? If he hasn't beaten anyone? 00:16:53 Speaker 6: That matters? 00:16:54 Speaker 5: And from the Corrections Department, Thursday Night Football, Broncos Chiefs. 00:16:58 Speaker 6: Oh, Broncos Chiefs in Kansas City. 00:17:00 Speaker 4: I'm sorry, not Chargers Chiefs. I'm sorry. Take Chargers. Chargers host the Texans on Saturday. 00:17:07 Speaker 2: That's a good one. That's what I was thinking. 00:17:08 Speaker 4: But you know what it's to quote Shepard Smith back in the day, I'm not sure what happened there, won't happen again. 00:17:15 Speaker 3: Won't happen again. So your thoughts eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Eight seven seven and ninety nine on Fox. It does matter, rich Uh. You know Billy Madison was a great dodgeball player. You know why because he was playing against kindy Gardners. Oh, it's not good to karate exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth, Meet Loaf. You know Kramer was a was a black belt in karate. Because he's playing a bunch of little he's fighting a bunch of little kids. 00:17:44 Speaker 2: You know, these things do matter. But at the same time, you can only play who's on your schedule. Two things can be true. I know that's boring, but that's the facts. That's the truth. 00:17:53 Speaker 4: Doesn't that apply to someone we're gonna talk about later on the show, Jake Paul until he fought a real fighter like Anthony Joshua. What was the sentiment, well, look who he's fighting. You know, look who they're playing. That's you know, that's a that's a common sentiment, uh overall, And yes, and it. 00:18:09 Speaker 2: Was a matter of yeah, but it's but it's entertaining, so who cares? 00:18:11 Speaker 6: Right? 00:18:12 Speaker 3: So yeah, you have to factor in who the competition is in everything you do. I have a question for you, hey, rich, just take it back to real life. You may have been the king of your street in wiffleball or or tackle football. You really didn't know how good you were until you dabbled into the other neighborhoods. And that's you know, how life works. 00:18:32 Speaker 4: Yeah, let's let's let's honestly, let's let's all be real there. What Cavino just said is how we all realized we weren't good enough to play pro sports. 00:18:41 Speaker 3: Or you may have been great in high school and then you get to college and realize that there's beasts from all other counties all over the country. 00:18:48 Speaker 4: That is when most of us realized, oh, I guess I'm not going to play pro sports. Because you might have been a pretty good high school player, you played in college, you played you know, at a at bigger school and you're like. 00:18:58 Speaker 3: Oh, now we're The only difference here is we're talking about professional athletes. So they're all great, and they're all good, and it's any given Sunday. But still some teams are better than others. I know that matchup is in front of us. 00:19:10 Speaker 2: I think there's a wild stat about the forty nine Ers. 00:19:13 Speaker 4: I'm gonna get to next, and I'll just say this, it's more wild than the fact that they haven't punted, since it's like Thanksgiving. 00:19:20 Speaker 2: No punt November. Man, they haven't punted since you were eating Thanksgiving leftover. Since that's crazy. You know, honestly, mostead they're punter. 00:19:29 Speaker 4: I think he had leftover stuffing in cranberry sauce more recently than punted in an NFL game. But there's a more interesting stat about the Niners. So we'll talk a little NFC West, forty nine Ers, Rams Seahawks. 00:19:42 Speaker 2: How do you see this panning out? We'll get to that. 00:19:44 Speaker 4: Plus a new tradition in the NBA with Wemby that I think is awesome, but you might think it's corny as hell. 00:19:50 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:19:51 Speaker 4: We'll break it down a Christmas Eve Covino and Rich Show in for the great Dan Patrick. 00:19:56 Speaker 2: Appreciate you hanging, Let's go. 00:19:59 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. 00:20:09 Speaker 2: Pauly Fools gohead with Tony Fosco. 00:20:11 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:20:11 Speaker 7: As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning Polly and Toni Foosco Show. 00:20:15 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:20:15 Speaker 7: But instead of us telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on our show. 00:20:21 Speaker 4: Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. 00:20:24 Speaker 2: What what are you doing? Were interrupting our promo? 00:20:27 Speaker 1: Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips totally of context. 00:20:31 Speaker 7: Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you out and beat you. 00:20:35 Speaker 2: Let me put this into context. Shut up. 00:20:38 Speaker 7: Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Fusco Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 00:20:44 Speaker 3: Yeing, Hey, Happy holidays from Covino and Rich and for Dan Patrick live in the Fox Sports Radio studio. We do that every Wednesday on Our Show and Mike's Wednesday Words of Wisdom. 00:22:12 Speaker 3: All you have to have to do is listen and repeat verbatim and you get a prize. But strength of schedule doesn't matter. Unfortunately it does. But you can only win the games you play and the teams you play. 00:22:28 Speaker 2: It's true. 00:22:29 Speaker 4: I mean, you can't be like, hey, man, you know we really move like a tougher schedule. Yeah, no, man, why and you know, why would you why would you not want a cake schedule? In fact, if your team like the forty nine ers who had an off year last year, if you remember McCaffrey was out the whole year, kid, all every like that team was decimated. Right, So because you suck, you get a favorable schedule the next year, you take advantage of that. 00:22:57 Speaker 3: Hey, if you were the prom king in your high school, but your high school was like forty kids, you're not that awesome. You didn't have any competition. 00:23:03 Speaker 2: That's insulting. 00:23:04 Speaker 6: You know. 00:23:04 Speaker 2: That was Spots girls. Spot's wife is the prom queen. Yeah, but there's like three girls and are graduating class. Does it matter as much? 00:23:10 Speaker 3: She's beautiful? But I mean, I mean, but still, that's how life works, you know, Like it does. Competition matters, you. 00:23:16 Speaker 4: Know what I know when I think about that a lot, Danny g. You ever see someone playing Rex sports and they talk about their high school prowess and you're like, it does no way, you were a good athlete, and you're like, what. 00:23:27 Speaker 2: Did you go to high school with? Like four people like the. 00:23:30 Speaker 4: Guys I play REX softball with Comedo And they're like, yeah, back in the day when I. 00:23:33 Speaker 2: Was old County what like what county? 00:23:36 Speaker 6: Like yeah? Meanwhile, meanwhile, Rich has JJ McCarthy face paint on. 00:23:40 Speaker 4: That was I'm balling, bro Yes, yes, hey, I told you how a forty nine or a little not fun fact. There's nothing really fun about it, but really interesting. More so than the whole Morsetead hasn't punted since he was having Thanksgiving leftovers. The forty miners, they are that their mine, they're my team Niners. You know they might not have to leave the Bay Area until August. 00:24:09 Speaker 2: I did not know that. Then again, you're the schedule watcher. Think about it. 00:24:13 Speaker 4: If the forty nine ers win on Sunday Night against the Bears, then it's a all or nothing Week eighteen, and you know they're gonna make that the primetime game against the Seahawks Niner Seahawks winner would get the one seed. Let's say the Niners win that game, then the path to the super Bowl goes through San Francisco, so they would they play against the Bears in Santa Clara. They play against the Seahawks, then the playoffs would go through Santa Clara, and. 00:24:43 Speaker 2: Then the Super Bowl is in San Francisco this year. 00:24:48 Speaker 4: So if the forty nine ers win, they don't have to leave the Bay until next season. 00:24:58 Speaker 2: Dude. 00:24:58 Speaker 4: So if you think comfort and not having to travel plays a factor, the forty nine ers could unpack the bags. McCaffrey could be hanging out with Olivia Culpo and his beautiful baby. George Kittle could be hanging out with his awesome wife, and us Check could be you know, designing jackets with his you know girlfriend, and so this could all be easy. 00:25:17 Speaker 2: Breezy nine has just got to win. 00:25:19 Speaker 3: Now, Look realistically, what Randy Machelman Savage said rings true. The cream rises to the top regardless. But this is all great for forty nine ers. What you're saying is the eleven and four forty nine ers have everything going for him because not only strength of schedule and not having to leave for a while. 00:25:37 Speaker 2: What else did macho man say? Any other words of wisdom to come to mind? Snap into it. That's one of my favorites. What about? 00:25:47 Speaker 4: What about what he proposed to Elizabeth? And he's like, Elizabeth, will you marry me? 00:25:53 Speaker 2: What is it? What did you say about three sixty winnings? 00:25:55 Speaker 6: Three? 00:25:56 Speaker 4: Three? 00:25:56 Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah? But what Rich is? 00:25:59 Speaker 6: Also again Elizabeth, Elizabeth. 00:26:03 Speaker 2: Will will you marry me? 00:26:06 Speaker 3: They have a lot of things going their way because I got to Sam, they're clicking just the right time. So not only do they have to not travel and haven't punted and all that good stuff, they're clicking. Their offense seem seemed unstoppable against the Colts this week. They moved the ball down the field with ease, They made it look easy, and they scored at will. So it seems like, you know, Rich doesn't want to get ahead of himself as the excited forty nine ers fan, but they've got everything in their favor right now. And honestly, I don't hear a lot of people buzzing about the forty nine ers maybe until this past week. 00:26:43 Speaker 4: Yeah, say, you know, sometimes better to go under the radar, reading the feedback wishing everyone to marry Christmas. Say like you said, a lot of people chiming in live. What's up, Scott William, Michelle. 00:26:55 Speaker 6: Mike Christmas, filthy Animal. 00:26:59 Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to Little Nero's Pizza tonight. Sam buys your girlfriend? 00:27:06 Speaker 4: Speaking speaking of Buzz's girlfriend, I have a Christmas thought. We're gonna get to next. But Danny, g who do you got on the phone? Who are you wishing to marry Christmas? 00:27:13 Speaker 2: To? 00:27:13 Speaker 3: Here? 00:27:13 Speaker 5: Patrick Chew, let's start listening to a five seventy in La. Travis, Yeah, what's up? 00:27:18 Speaker 2: Trav? Hey? Travis? 00:27:20 Speaker 6: Hey, you guys haven't mentioned baseball yet, but I know that Rich. I think you don't care about the Mets doing liquidation because you're gonna flip to the Dodgers. 00:27:29 Speaker 2: I know people people speculate that I'm I'm jumping ship. Oh yeah. 00:27:34 Speaker 3: He drops little seeds here and there, just to let everybody know that he's about to make the move. 00:27:38 Speaker 4: That would be the weakest sports fan. Benedict Arnold Like, weakest ass move of all time. If I dropped the Mets after forty plus year, it's the standard move. Let me tell you something. If you have a wife or girlfriend, and she drops the name every once in a while. 00:27:53 Speaker 2: That's the dude she ends up with. 00:27:55 Speaker 3: And Rich drops the Dodgers a lot, and he always talks about how his kids are Dodgers fans. He brings that up to everyone who's willing to listen, just so he could forewarn us for when it happens. 00:28:05 Speaker 4: Shadow, I think the Mets decimating their team, And yeah, I saw a little little someone did a little ai of Edwin Diaz, Pete Alonzo, Jeff McNeil, Brandon Nemo, all like walking away from city Field, all sad looking. 00:28:18 Speaker 2: Listen. 00:28:19 Speaker 4: If I'm those guys, I'm not sad. Go live your life. Edwin Diaz is gonna be uh entering Dodger Stadium to Timmy Trumpet's Life's good for Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonzo is gonna be in Baltimore, where he's probably the coolest thing that's happened to them since cal Ripken junior. When you really think about maybe Brady Anderson. Who who else comes to mind? 00:28:40 Speaker 2: Oh, that's a good one. Jim Palmer. 00:28:42 Speaker 4: When our parents were younger, like Baltimore has been Thurston. If they're like Thurston, howl the third, they're Thurston for a superstar and Cam, you know that's small outfield wall. Pete Alonzo is gonna hit fifty home runs and everyone in Baltimore is gonna appreciate him. The Mets are like the crappy ex girlfriend that then it tickle is, you know, like the Mets never appreciated Pete a Lonzo. And I'm a Mets fan. I think it's disgusting when the Mets are wanting to give guys like and granted, he's a star, but when you're hearing these big deals they want to give a guy like a Cody Bellinger or some of these folks, and the Mets won't want to give Pete more than three years. 00:29:18 Speaker 2: Good for him to tell the Mets to beat it. 00:29:20 Speaker 3: And without Adam Jones, Brow and the Orioles, he was a beast. Yeah, but you know what, how about Brady Anderson? I did say I said that pretty one sideburns for. 00:29:30 Speaker 6: One year about Mike Flanagan, Mike. 00:29:32 Speaker 2: What about Mike? That wasn't Mike Messina dominant for a minute? He was Yeah the Moose absolutely, Yeah. 00:29:38 Speaker 3: So I mean they've had some great players, but this is a big deal for sure for them. So Rich is the Mets fan. Thank you Travis for the call. Always take your phone calls. The most interactive, most inclusive show on radio eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox and like I said, live chat you can watch the show. 00:29:53 Speaker 2: Covino and Rich FSR. 00:29:55 Speaker 6: Can't believe you guys left out Eddie Murray. 00:29:58 Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean that's way. You know that Eddie Murray. 00:30:01 Speaker 4: Everyone in the media when they talk about like the best, you know why because apparently Eddie Murray was a jerk. 00:30:08 Speaker 2: It's true, you get that. That's the legend. 00:30:11 Speaker 4: You've heard that story many a times where Eddie Murray. You know, depending on how you you know, ask a legend like Rob Parker who works here at FSR. There's certain athletes that are that are kind and ones that are not. And if you're a jerk to everyone in the media, you could be the greatest event. But you know, no one's gonna do any favors and talk about how great you are, just how it is all right? You know what, Cove, There's a few things I want to get to coming up. It's a Christmas Eve extravagance, as we feel in for Dan Patrick. So there's a deep thought about movies and sports. I want to get to and there's a new NBA tradition. You tell me you let's choose our own little Christmas adventure. 00:30:52 Speaker 3: I want to talk about the NBA tradition because I know what you're talking about is the Spurs here. And it's a really simple question that we ask you Fox Sports Radio Nation. Is it cool or corny the new Spurs tradition. Wimbin Yama, you know, took it upon himself as a leader to introduce this new tradition, and man, I could sum it up by this rich I could say that it's cool for them and probably corny for everybody else, because traditions, I think are supposed to happen organically, or has every tradition as we know it been forced in some sort of way, like it shouldn't feel forced like a nickname. 00:31:30 Speaker 2: You can't force a nick. 00:31:31 Speaker 4: Before we give you the new Spurs tradition, Danny G has a queue up on standby. I want to think of some of the other things we've seen in the last you know, in our lifetime. You know, let's say, let's go from nineteen eighty till now. 00:31:43 Speaker 3: All right, can I give you like an example of what I meant, though it's cool for them, corny for everybody else, like the rally monkey in Anaheim, Like that was the weakest gimmicky tradition for them or for everybody else, but. 00:31:58 Speaker 2: Cool for them. 00:31:59 Speaker 3: What with the rally monkey, Because let's be real, it's kind of corny, right, ever, do to you? I let me give you one fan, I say, no, let me give you one in the UH in the NBA. 00:32:12 Speaker 4: I'm gonna start naming sports traditions and just give me your first instinct. 00:32:15 Speaker 2: Don't even don't overthink it. 00:32:16 Speaker 4: I want the Steve Cavino who thinks he's the coolest guy in the world barometer on this. 00:32:23 Speaker 2: I'm gonna give you. 00:32:24 Speaker 3: You know, I'm willing to give you my opinion because you're the first guy. You're the first guy you see them unfurl and develop before your eyes. It takes away like pulls back the curtain on the origin. 00:32:36 Speaker 4: And I say this, I say this like kindly. Cavino is and we all have friends like this. And Cavino speaks on behalf of a lot of dudes where your instinct for a lot of things, like yo, if that corny, it's like a sixth sense. 00:32:48 Speaker 3: You were born without it. Rich like you you you don't have that corny like I guess instinct where you could you could pick up on it. Like, nah, man, that's just that's just lame. I'm not doing that, like. 00:32:59 Speaker 4: Cavino is, like, yeah, they if they put the mac arena at a wedding, that's when Covino dips way to get a drink. 00:33:03 Speaker 2: I'm the guy. I'm the guy, Like, let's do it. 00:33:06 Speaker 3: I don't jumped in the conga line for Buster Poindeck the Rest in Peace. He was a great performer, but I'm not feeling hot, hot hot when that song comes on. Corny, yeah, Like it's just the truth, man, Like some things are corny, and you also have to let things develop a little bit. 00:33:24 Speaker 4: But okay, let me give you a couple and then you know, we'll break and come back and talk about the spurs and traditional. Let me hit you with a couple. Now you tell me corny or yeah, that's cool. In Sacramento, like a year ago or so, when they started to do the light the beam and after the game, like big beam of light comes out of the arena. 00:33:44 Speaker 3: You know, I thought that was kind of cool, But I don't feel like it caught on the way they wanted to. So, you know, I think the public picked up on the fact that it's. 00:33:55 Speaker 2: Just not that cool. But I wasn't hating on it. 00:33:57 Speaker 4: That started in twenty twenty two, So in your mind, Nope, okay. 00:34:02 Speaker 3: Yeah, not really, it's not really it's not really hitting it. It's been going on for a little while. 00:34:06 Speaker 4: Now, how does Steve Covino feel about touchdowns scored in Green Bay, Wisconsin followed by a Lambeau leap? 00:34:14 Speaker 3: Now, dude, that feels like tradition, right, does it not? Does it not feel like tradition that happened organically? Like that's the difference. That's the difference of organic and forced. And you know, some people could smell that a mile away, and to me that one has been around long enough where it's just tradition. That's just how it is. Nothing corny about it, all right. You know what I find corny though, cheeseheads wearing a block of cheese on your head. 00:34:38 Speaker 2: That's I would never do that, all right, Yeah, that's cheese. 00:34:41 Speaker 4: You know, I'm gonna I'm gonna bring up a bunch of others and we'll talk about the Spurs, who, by the way, page just seem to have O. 00:34:49 Speaker 2: Casey's number. 00:34:49 Speaker 4: We'll get to that, and of course a bunch of more NFL, some Christmas stuff, having fun into the legendary Dan Patrick and the Dan nets Kavino Retch right here on Fox Sports Radio. 00:34:59 Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. I'm not giving it up yet, man, who you got? 00:36:41 Speaker 2: Don't give up? 00:36:41 Speaker 4: My secrets are pal Dan Bayer, who's our the main update guy here at Fox Sports Radio. He's an Ohio State fan, and I like his sentiment of like yo, Indiana had their great moment a week ago Mendoza then goes on to win the Heisman. But come playoff time. 00:36:59 Speaker 6: Please say future Raider Mendoza. 00:37:01 Speaker 2: Future Raider Mendoza. I don't know. 00:37:06 Speaker 4: I think he's had a good run, but I don't in a playoff situation, I don't know. 00:37:11 Speaker 2: Ohio State, maybe I don't know. It's gonna be fun. 00:37:14 Speaker 4: And I'm a casual college football fan fanatical NFL fan when it comes to college I'll casually watch. But I think the playoff has been a success. I speak on behalf of the guy that watches college football way less than the pros. But when I think they made a big good move when it was just a national championship, yeah, I don't know. I think it lacked of PiZZ as it has now. But back to the NBA and not just the NBA, traditions around sports, and you get that feeling sometimes when when they're trying to force something right. 00:37:46 Speaker 3: I get that feeling, but I also have to commend when beyond his leadership, though I do commend that, and I respect that he's trying to create a buzz and trying to create a thing, but I feel that traditions shouldn't feel forced and they should happen organically in the Spurs unveiled the new tradition after their big win versus Okay, see. 00:38:08 Speaker 4: You mean that the team that they're too and oh against, but no one else has beat them except one time, like I. 00:38:13 Speaker 3: Mean yeah, no, I mean they're playing solid, so winning should be the tradition, but they want to enhance that a little bit, right, and they had a big was that big? 00:38:23 Speaker 2: What did what did spot play in high school? In the marshman? What did you play when you went? Uh? You played the bass drum? 00:38:29 Speaker 6: Right? 00:38:29 Speaker 2: You played the tuba and the bass drum. I played the trumpet, thoughts, so. 00:38:36 Speaker 3: So he he he, he tastes the mic and he instructs the crowd on how to do it. 00:38:43 Speaker 2: So I give him a lot of credit. 00:38:45 Speaker 4: Listen, I think you're you're being too cool for the room. If you don't think young superstar Wemby. I thought this was amazing. Danny g played the clip of Wemby after a big win. 00:38:59 Speaker 1: A new tradition that we've been working on with the Jogles over there. 00:39:04 Speaker 2: So the least everybody arms up in the pretty your arms, everybody's prett your arms and just like the jocks. 00:39:12 Speaker 1: Go ahead. 00:39:28 Speaker 4: Hit that bas drum Webby, We'll rock. 00:39:37 Speaker 2: You listen. 00:39:40 Speaker 4: San Antonio going nuts for Wemby. But they have their hands up like this. They stole that from the Vikings. They're not saying skull. I mean, I know, but it's that's that belongs. 00:39:52 Speaker 2: To me very much. 00:39:53 Speaker 3: Not doing a regular handclap for the record if you ever seen is right. They're doing like the hands above the heads sort of thing. Viking like the style. And I'm not hating. I'm just stating that it feels a little corny. That's all you're asking me. I'm not here to criticize Wenby. I think he's great. I think he played a great game. I love how they play it against OKAC. Props to them. I'm not trying to hate on them, not hating, just stating some traditions hold on. Some traditions are cool, Some are corny. Some take time, dude, so like, you know, this is fresh. It's like when you hear a song for the first time, people like, do. 00:40:29 Speaker 2: You like it? 00:40:30 Speaker 3: Well, sometimes it takes a minute to grow on. You give me a second and it's brand new. We rarely see how the organic they they start in this way, and that's why it feels a little weird like he's sort of instructing the tradition. 00:40:47 Speaker 2: Carry is that how they start, like even a holiday tradition. I mean, I'm you presenting it. 00:40:51 Speaker 4: Listen, dude, I'm My kids are five and eight, and my wife and I have talked about how a tradition needs to start somewhere, like every Christmas Eve, you know, you go around with the kids and do some you know. 00:41:03 Speaker 3: But isn't it usually because like that's what Grandpappy Davis did. 00:41:08 Speaker 4: But sometimes you got to start your own traditions. If you come from a family that doesn't really have many, you and your you and your family start a tradition. I think Wemby's saying anowledge. He's saying, this is the next chapter in San Antonio Spur's history. We pay respect to the legends of Tim Duncan and David Robinson, but you know this is a new era. And I'm breaking out this big ass bass drum and I think it's cool. 00:41:33 Speaker 2: Man, Like, Hey, I don't. 00:41:35 Speaker 3: Want to hate on the guy. I'm just telling you what I feel in my in my let me, let me, let me throw more of you. 00:41:42 Speaker 2: Fireman. Fireman ed with his j E T S Jets Jet Jets. I never liked it. 00:41:47 Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie in Minnesota and Carry said, I'm a Vikings fan. Carry said, I'm a Vikings fan lifelong, but I think the skull chant could be corny. 00:41:58 Speaker 2: I don't know. There's a bunch of room. 00:41:59 Speaker 4: You can name every tradition and a guy like Steve Covino is gonna just think everything's corny. So you know, we'll go for a couple more of those next, plus we'll talk some Christmas stuff and of course so many big matchups Week seventeen of the NFL. In for the Great Dan Patrick and the dan Ets, Covino Ritch, Fox Sports Radio, Christmas Eve, Let's go
