Speaker 1: All right, everyone, we are back with our first ever guest from The Golden Bachelor. She is the first person in history to ever receive a rose from the Golden Bachelor. Everyone, please welcome Faith, Faith, you happy.

00:00:20
Speaker 2: Faith, Welcome, And I have to say, Joe, that was the happiest you've ever looked doing in in Troll's podcast. Joe is so excited.

00:00:27
Speaker 3: Faith.

00:00:27
Speaker 2: We were obsessed with the first episode and we were so excited to be talking to you.

00:00:31
Speaker 3: So welcome.

00:00:32
Speaker 1: Yes.

00:00:32
Speaker 4: Oh well, I'm excited as well to talk with you too, especially because I can't wait to hear a lot about your backstory because that that gives people like me hope, you know. So yeah, super fun, super fun to be on here. So thank you for having me.

00:00:45
Speaker 1: So, Faith, remind remind me again. Where do you live? Where are you from now?

00:00:49
Speaker 4: I live in Yeah, I'm from Santa Cruz, California. Originally, I know they say, you know, they've said I'm from bit City. I live in City, Washington State. So it's on the eastern side of Washington in the desert. Very rural, so you know, lots of wide open spaces. And I have a horse and two dogs and live on an acre. And little tiny house and yeah, so.

00:01:11
Speaker 1: Over here you ride a motorcycle.

00:01:14
Speaker 4: I ride a motorcycle. Also ride a horse.

00:01:16
Speaker 1: Yeah nice, nice, And how in the world did you get on the show?

00:01:21
Speaker 4: So my kids, you know, I've got adult children. I've got the two coolest sons on the face of the earth, and of course they're always saying mom. First of all, my son signed me up for Tinder one time, and I couldn't even work the side. I didn't know what was swiping to the right was let them in, you know, I just was trying to get them off my screen. So then they signed me up for My daughter in law was making me sign up on some match dot com and she kept sending me pictures of eligible men, going, do you think he's good looking? I was like, why are you looking at men? You're married to my son. She's like, no, I signed you up. So when none of those worked, and I just got overwhelmed with those sites. So one day we were sitting around in my son says, oh my gosh, Mom, the Golden Bachelor. They're going to have a Golden Bachelor. This is so perfect for you. And he signed me up right then and there on my phone. I saw nothing. I said, well, I'm sure they won't call anyway, and then they did call, and so then bing bang boom, and here I am. I don't know how it happened. Have you seen the other women, I'm telling you, Oh my gosh.

00:02:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean we see the other women, but the only one that Gary seems to see is you.

00:02:28
Speaker 5: Because we'll get it too, we'll get into the fact that Gary loved you right away. So you pull up, You don't come out of the limo, you pull up in a motorcycle. How are you feeling in this moment? And also did you watch the show prior or No?

00:02:45
Speaker 4: So I feel so bad in saying this, but no, I work my guts out up until recently. So I you know, I do three radio shows a day. Then I was teaching school for the rest of the day. And I'm a singer musician, so I was in a band for thirty years. So like every weekend, I don't go to bed till late, and I don't have time to watch TV. I had heard of The Bachelor, That's pretty much the extent of it. So I really knew nothing. And you'll see that they make fun of me a number of times. But yeah, it's I was terrified that night coming in on the motorcycle. I hadn't ridden for a while and that wasn't my bike, so I was terrified to be meeting Gary for the first time. And you know, of course, as you know, it's terrifying, right first night, Jitters, I was completely I think, you know, I was breathing so heavy in that helmet I could hear my own. I felt like Darth Vader, you know. And I was just so worried that I wouldn't get the kickstand down and I dumped the bike or something, And yeah, I was terrified. And then trying to get off a motorcycle in an evening gown and make it look somewhat lady like, I mean, that was that was a challenge.

00:03:53
Speaker 3: Well, you looked like an absolute prow. You made it work. The pink dress was fabulous.

00:03:59
Speaker 1: You look lady like.

00:04:01
Speaker 2: So going into the show, then if you didn't watch it, did you watch any episodes like prepare any research, like figure out what you're getting into?

00:04:08
Speaker 3: Were you totally blind?

00:04:10
Speaker 4: So I saw two little clips and my thought was what I told my son, I was like, why is everybody crying on that show? I'm not like that sounds crazy. And then I really didn't have time, and I thought about it, and I asked, do I need to watch this show? And they're like, ah, don't worry about it, you know. Well, then yeah, that is all that, except I do know something about myself. Living this long, I realized that I'm kind of an in the moment kind of girl. And if they would have if I would have known what to expect or what to anticipate, or where we were going from here or doing this, or trying to figure it all out, it would have bugged me. The part that I loved about it is I really had no expectations. I had gone in going I'm going to take one look at this guy up close, and if I don't like, and I'm going home. Because I've never had a summer off. I wanted to be with my horse, my kids, my grandkids, I want to go camping. I felt like, this is taking my summer. I don't want to be here unless I think that I might really like him, you know, And so and I made it known upfront that that's how I felt. And then well you saw first night, you know, and there was that instant look that I caught in his eye that just made me, oh my gosh, you know, because yeah, he's a good looking guy. But as we all know, good looks only go so far. So when I looked in those eyes, though, I was like, oh my gosh, there's something about him. So it was very, very exciting to feel that, and I definitely wanted to explore it.

00:05:41
Speaker 1: Is he is scary your tip? Is he your type? Do you have a type?

00:05:44
Speaker 4: No? No, he would not have been my type. No, I'm happy to say, which is why I was a little hesitant. But when I looked in his eyes or as something so wonderful that I was so attracted to. Wow, But you know, no, he is not my type. I go more for the emotionally unavailable casanova types or the ones that you think are going to be okay and then stalk you for six months, you know, so you know, after the breakup. So yeah, I haven't had you know, I mean, that's rude to say. I really have had met some wonderful men, but I either don't fall in love with them or they fall in love with me and it's not doesn't end well, you know, it's all so yeah, as we know, relationships are just that way, right. It's so hard.

00:06:33
Speaker 2: You got to find the right fit, and it's like rare to find two people that love each other in the same.

00:06:39
Speaker 4: Way and that can actually get along.

00:06:42
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:06:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to ask you. Have people told you before that you've looked so much like Katie Segal?

00:06:49
Speaker 4: You must get you know, it's weird because I saw it right away too. And the kind of thing is that she's also a singer. There was a time when I was kind of touring and some of the covers songs I was doing, she was doing the same ones. We had our hair style the same way. I mean, just off chance, you know, I kept thinking maybe my dad, you know, maybe she's like related to me here something. So yeah, we I know, we looked a lot alike. I could be her double, you know, and I ride a motorcycle, so.

00:07:19
Speaker 3: I know, I know, it's so cool to me.

00:07:23
Speaker 4: I think it's also kind of weird that we're so similar. We sing the same songs, where our hair is the same, our face is the same. You know, maybe we were twins. I think she's a little bit older than me, but not by much so something.

00:07:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so you step so you know, you have your your talk with Gary. Right when you step off your your motorcycle, then you step into the Bachelor of Manship for the first time. There's other women there. How are you feeling overwhelmed? Excited? What's going through your mind?

00:07:55
Speaker 4: All of the above? Terrified. I mean, I you know, I'm a radio personality too, so I okay in crowds and I can usually find somebody to connect with and enjoy. First thing I thought of was holy crime. Any of these women are gorgeous, right, I mean, there were so many of them. They were all beautiful. Immediately I felt inadequate, but they were all so nice, super friendly. So there was a few that I, you know, felt a little more drawn to, and I don't know, it was pretty comfortable in that way, but also terrifying. You know, you have a little conversation with one and then you kind of stand back for a while and go, okay, what do we do now? And then they kept coming and coming. There were so many of them, so yeah, it was super exciting, but you know, it was a very surreal feeling. You know, what am I doing here? This is kind of crazy, and so many gorgeous women, and I'm not gonna lie I thought, oh my gosh, I do not have a chance with this guy at all these people.

00:08:51
Speaker 2: Was there any women that you like hit it off with right away like that you kind of formed fast friendships with.

00:08:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, I immediately liked Anna. I didn't I immediately liked her. We didn't get to talk a lot, but and Peggy and I mean every one of them that you you know, introduced that I was introduced to right away. There were so many to go through. But once we had a chance to all chat, you know, gosh, Ellen, I mean, there was just it was just so fun. It was so fun to meet everyone. What I found was really interesting is that the first impressions that you get about people, you know, the ones that maybe were a little more standoffish, or the ones that were very voisterous or how you know, kind of just those instant impressions that you get, some of those held true. But you know, it's funny that sometimes you don't know when you meet somebody what they're really like, and you you know, so you're not always drawn to the people that you'd think you would be, And it's it's just interesting. It was a wonderful experience to meet all those fantastic women.

00:09:52
Speaker 1: I would say, especially in this kind of setting, because you really you don't know if somebody stand offish or just a nervous reconcile. Yeah, and yeah, like I feel like everyone that first day is just like, you know, you're a little in your head because you're like, what the fucking.

00:10:12
Speaker 4: Yeah. I can't tell you how many times I thought that, and even like opened my eyes in the middle of the night stirring up the ceiling, going what am I doing? This is the weirdest thing ever?

00:10:22
Speaker 3: Oh, I had that moment. I definitely had that moment after Night one.

00:10:26
Speaker 2: I remember being in my room being like, what is happening?

00:10:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pretty pretty intense.

00:10:39
Speaker 1: Okay, so let's go. You have a one on one talk with Gary. You whip out the guitar, you sing on the song.

00:10:47
Speaker 3: Gary, because a sweet moment.

00:10:52
Speaker 2: When like watching it back, it is so sweet and they keep cutting to Gary's like eyes and he's just like mel listening to you sing this song and your voice is beautiful. It was I am not someone that like loves a cheesy moment, and I really thought I was getting mad.

00:11:08
Speaker 1: I was yelling at the screen, I'm like, Gary, play it.

00:11:11
Speaker 5: Cool, like play it cool because you are so in love in this moment, insane.

00:11:18
Speaker 4: It was so cute. He was so cute. I think that, you know, from right from the get go, I wanted to get at the core of what I was after and what I wanted to see if he had in him. And I had recently written that song called something Beautiful, and basically it's the story of somebody who doesn't care that much about how they look and really doesn't pay too much attention to any of that, and then when she meets that person that she connects with, all of a sudden, she really wants to be something beautiful because she wants to create something beautiful with someone. So when I was singing that to him, you know, I kind of wanted him to understand that, you know, that's how I felt in that moment about him, because truly I was ready to go out, Like if I looked at him and I didn't feel anything, I was out that what he had in his eyes that moment was just what captured me right from the get go, And it's almost like to me, it felt like nothing else mattered, Like I don't care what you do, I don't care where we live on care whatever, you know, Like I just was true, so you know, it just captured me.

00:12:17
Speaker 1: Wo yeah, Jesus acted.

00:12:29
Speaker 3: I just got married.

00:12:30
Speaker 4: So I'm like so much so cute. That's so cute, you know, that's the that's the thing, right, that's the thing. That's so cute. Me too, that's all. But that being said, I was terrified, you know, because here I am doing this and trying to basically bear my soul in that moment, feeling like, oh my gosh, this could be such a great connection. And then you know, I was cold, My fingers were stiff. You know, there's cameras in my face, and yeah, it's so embarrassed. I'm sure that I did not sing well or play well. I don't even herd remember it now.

00:13:01
Speaker 1: It's all right, okay, well Faith, you know what, let let's cut it out with this humble act, all right, because when you okay, so be honest with me, when you walked away from him after that conversation, you played the guitar as a party. That's like, I got this guy. I got him. No, No, not at all.

00:13:21
Speaker 4: I think that I was probably the most insecure person on that whole show. Honestly, sometimes I mean I never I never felt like that. Ever, I felt like there might be something just because that connected. I mean, it was like a direct line eye to eye, you know. And and that's really the only thing I could hold onto and which I did hold on to, is that there was something there. I don't know, you know, but there was something there. So but I didn't feel like I did a good job. I didn't feel like I looked good. I didn't nothing like that.

00:13:53
Speaker 1: So I was like, eh, well, honestly, in full transparency, I don't think you could have did better.

00:13:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, I understand what you mean.

00:14:01
Speaker 2: It's a hard environment to be in, and there's a lot of self criticism in comparison that goes on with so many other people in that room. But truly like, you could not have done better?

00:14:09
Speaker 3: It was fantastic.

00:14:10
Speaker 1: Want Yeah, yeah.

00:14:14
Speaker 2: How did it feel then? If you did not feel like, you know, your best about it? When he handed you that first impression, Rose, were you shocked?

00:14:24
Speaker 4: So the funny thing is I didn't know what that was, and I didn't know that it was a big deal. I didn't know that he was walking over to give it to me. I you know, like all that stuff just didn't. I just was in such a whirlwind. I didn't really get it. And I remember, you know, the other gals were telling me, yeah, that's a really big deal. That's a really big deal, and I but I you know, I'm one of those. I'm going to be grateful and super happy that I got the first impression Rose, but I'm certainly not taking it for granted, like he could change his mind when he sees Ellen or when he sees so and so are. You know, like I just know enough. I've lived a little bit, not my first rodeo, so I knew that could change it any minute. You know, first impressions don't always last. And I didn't know. I remember the rhythm. This is the musician in me of them saying, do you know what a first impression Rose was? And I just remember the sound of that and and thinking, and I remember I couldn't. I couldn't tell what it was. You know, what is that the first expression Rose? The first like that? I had to think, what is it? And what's it for? And why? Why did I get it? You know, I don't know. It's just so clueless. It was embarrassing.

00:15:37
Speaker 1: Wow, but you got it? And right now you are the woman. You're you're the leading woman in my.

00:15:43
Speaker 3: Opinion, right, yeah, definitely.

00:15:46
Speaker 2: I mean, we're excited to see more of you this season and see where your connection with Gary goes. But it was a beautiful first episode and I think people are just getting.

00:16:00
Speaker 1: Ready to crag it. Oh, I have to ask you this, right, so an exhausting part of the show for everyone, our ros ceremonies, because how is everybody handling it?

00:16:14
Speaker 4: I don't you know, everybody was good about it, but I don't know if in everyone else's mind was the same thing going on in my mind because I'm like, I wanted to turn around and go, okay, you know what, this is nonsense. Let's everybody take off her shoes, Like why do we have to stand here in the heels? Why do we do this? Beearfoot? Like who really cares? You know? I think I said that out loud one and somebody said, that's fine, Faith, But when you walk up, how is that going to let my my dress would be dragging, you know, six inches on the floor. But that was the worst part ever. Yeah, and game face.

00:16:47
Speaker 2: I was wondering how long yours was going to go because for us, you know, they happened at like seven in the morning, but yours looked like it was super early as well.

00:16:56
Speaker 3: I mean the sun was up. You must have been exhausted.

00:16:58
Speaker 4: That first night. We're all like looking at each other, going two things. Know how old they are? You know? Do they know that none of us wear high heels anymore? You know that we're all into comfort? It was, it was, It was dreadful. I'm surprised though, that we all bounced back so well, but we really did. I think I went home and slept two hours and I was up for good and fine, and everybody seemed to bounce back pretty well. Surprisingly.

00:17:22
Speaker 3: It's the adrenaline, Yeah, that's something.

00:17:25
Speaker 1: Yeah, and we we don't know, like we don't know what happens with your story and obviously don't spoil anything, but has it crossed your mind yet in this first night, like if you do end up with Gary, would you move? Would he move? Like? Are you thinking of any of the logistics yet? Or you're not even close to being there?

00:17:47
Speaker 4: At that point, all I was caring about was, oh my gosh, do I actually feel something? Oh my gosh, you know, like this is crazy? How is it? And I just kept thinking this could be it, Like, you know, I mean, how was I thought I even ended up in this show? So maybe it's a sign that this is the person to spend the rest of my life with. And I just really wanted to zero in on is if this is possibility? So I think at this point, all I was thinking about. I didn't think about any logistics, I didn't care. All I wondered was, oh, my gosh, does he feel the same way about me? Because I looked at him and just felt something. So yeah, I mean, you know, he's quite a bit older than me, and I didn't know if our lives were aligne in any way, shape or form, but just the feeling that I got looking into those eyes was enough to keep me, you know, very interested in that moment. Okay, so it was good.

00:18:38
Speaker 1: Ye out of scale you okay, out of scale one through ten? How strong is that feeling.

00:18:50
Speaker 4: In that moment? I would say it was probably an eight. Wow in that moment of that first night.

00:18:56
Speaker 1: Wow, it's a big night it was. Was there another what was the last time you can remember where you did feel that with a guy?

00:19:06
Speaker 4: Twenty thirteen?

00:19:07
Speaker 1: Wow?

00:19:08
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so I you know, yeah, I just don't I just honestly, that went through my mind a million times. Is this really happening? Am I really actually feeling this? Because how is this possible? I don't. I've met some wonderful people, but I just don't. I just don't fall for them, you know, I don't know what that is.

00:19:26
Speaker 1: So yeah, well, I can't wait to see what happens with you and the rest of the season, because we have no idea and we are very excited. Faith, you want to play a game with us?

00:19:39
Speaker 4: Oh geez, okay, of course, yes, yes, you're going to ask me details about the show. I'm going to fail miserably.

00:19:50
Speaker 1: No, no, no, this is just very easy. We're ask you silly, fun questions rapid fire first and it comes to your head. Okay, all right, what is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

00:20:09
Speaker 4: Hug my dogs?

00:20:11
Speaker 1: What is the best dish you cook.

00:20:17
Speaker 4: Without baking, but an actual cooking? A bolgan? What is it? A beef b But I can never say it right. I can make it better that I can say.

00:20:30
Speaker 1: It, I hope. So what is your go to rose ceremony cocktail?

00:20:39
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, you guys, I'm not a drinker, so I really struggled. I had a drink on the show that was really good. It was ginger rail and rum. But I don't really do cocktails unless it's like those sweet, really yummy ones that taste like candy. I just don't like anything that tastes like alcohol. So like I do like a white Russian, but I'm just not really a drinker. Make me something that tastes good and I'll drink it. But if it tastes like.

00:21:08
Speaker 1: It's fair. What was the first concert you ever attended?

00:21:12
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, it was probably Carlos Santana and I was still eleven years old. I got to serve backstage Carlos Santana sons of Chaplain, Red Ragged Rose, and Hot Tuna. It was at Cabrio College. Yeah, I think I was eleven.

00:21:30
Speaker 1: Were you into the guitar back now? Were you playing?

00:21:32
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, I've always been so No. I wasn't playing because I'm too add for that. I had to teach myself as I was a band member for years and they'd be like, Faith, pull this guitar and play this chord, you know, So I ended up playing parts. But no, But I've just always been so driven to play music and to sing, and.

00:21:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, nice. How many hours of sleep do you need every night?

00:21:55
Speaker 4: Four?

00:21:56
Speaker 1: That's it.

00:21:57
Speaker 3: That's it.

00:21:58
Speaker 4: You got to have four or I'm toast. I'm not toast because I've had zero before, you know. I mean I had a super busy life. I used to be in morning news anchor. I mean the sleep has never been something I've had a quality time at. So I just, yeah, but I need at least four.

00:22:15
Speaker 3: Are you a big coffee drinker? Are you just naturally an energized person?

00:22:19
Speaker 4: People used to say, what is there cracking your veins? Because I just I think if I have too much on my plate, I go, go, go, go go, and at some point I crash. But it just depends on how much I have to do.

00:22:31
Speaker 3: Wow, I mean three jobs, you gotta I guess.

00:22:34
Speaker 4: It's more like seven seven jobs, because it was three radio stations, gigging, teaching school, and then the duo, the solo of the band, so yeah, it.

00:22:43
Speaker 3: Was one and then also two boys.

00:22:46
Speaker 4: Two boys, but they're grown now, so yeah, but I've grand kids, five grandkids.

00:22:50
Speaker 1: Wow, gros ceremonies nothing for you. What is your favorite place in the world, in the whole world?

00:22:58
Speaker 4: My favorite place in the whole world without saying just with someone that I love, because I don't really care too much about where. But I my gosh, that's a hard one, I think. Okay, well, somewhere where the sun is sparkling on the water.

00:23:17
Speaker 1: Okay, that's good. What is your go to karaoke song?

00:23:21
Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh, go to karaoke probably have to be uh, oh gosh, I don't know, something like that, you know, with an own a CDC song or something.

00:23:34
Speaker 1: Okay, What if you were to write your autobiography, what would it be called?

00:23:41
Speaker 4: Love sick and twisted.

00:23:44
Speaker 1: Like that? What do you believe in love at first sight?

00:23:47
Speaker 4: I do?

00:23:49
Speaker 1: What is one word to describe this season of The Golden Bachelor.

00:23:56
Speaker 4: Intense? Oh?
