I can't believe we're almost to March. The best month of. 00:00:48 Speaker 4: The year is here. Where did January go? I don't work February Yeah. 00:00:52 Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. 00:00:53 Speaker 3: Clex Popen Shop phone lines eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Avition Auto Glass text Machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four In this disition sponsored by the TJ Smith lovas. 00:01:03 Speaker 5: You called TJ, He'll make them pay. I fell asleep last night, guys, at three fifteen in the morning. 00:01:08 Speaker 4: Goodness, wow, I just. 00:01:09 Speaker 5: Couldn't you know. We finished the postgame show like one forty five. 00:01:14 Speaker 3: I was excited, and then you know, you just get and I thought, I want to go watch the last few minutes. 00:01:19 Speaker 5: Again, and then I did, and then you know, you're just kind of amped. 00:01:22 Speaker 3: And tried to read a little bit of Sally Rooney intermezzo, but it wasn't getting me like. 00:01:29 Speaker 5: Calm, So I said, you know what, I'm just gonna go to sleep. 00:01:32 Speaker 3: When I go to sleep, it was Cats with an eighty three, eighty two win over Oklahoma. 00:01:38 Speaker 5: How great was that? You're right? 00:01:39 Speaker 6: It did feel like a March Madness game, didn't. It for sure had that feel to it. But Pope said on the post. 00:01:44 Speaker 3: Game it felt like a first round game in the NCAA tournament. 00:01:48 Speaker 5: And I see what he was saying. 00:01:49 Speaker 3: The arena not a ton of energy in it. You're having to supply your own energy. But guys going back and forth and you have adversity, but you gotta find a win. 00:02:00 Speaker 7: Drew, I thought that was a good analogy. Yeah, I hope it's not a first round scenario. I'd like to win by fifteen when we get to that point. But that was a thriller. I actually hated the game for thirty nine minutes. I just once Laman Butler went out, I'll admit I threw my arms in the air. They had the big guy hit a three. Whoever hits threes, I'm like this this, I just have a horrible feeling. 00:02:18 Speaker 3: The big guy hitt of three was a tough I loved being surprised there at the end. The big guy hitting the three was really tough because I just thought to myself that possession, don't. 00:02:25 Speaker 5: Give up a three. Don't give up a three. 00:02:27 Speaker 3: And then they give up a three to a guy who shoots twenty six percent where Amari gets just shook on that play, and I thought. 00:02:35 Speaker 5: Well, I turned it off for a couple of minutes. That turned it off. What was it sixty eight sixty three? 00:02:44 Speaker 3: They were up five, and I turned it off, and then I turned it back on and it was seventy one sixty nine, And so then I watched from then to the end. But I because I just felt like we're gonna lose this game, that they're not good and we we've already done this once. 00:02:59 Speaker 5: To take is we can't do it again, And I thought we were going to. 00:03:02 Speaker 7: That was a big point. I was an eight zero run at sixty eight sixty three and Butler checked back in and it was instant defense that Kintucky came right back. That was a moment where it was clear how important Butler was. 00:03:13 Speaker 3: Wait at seventy one sixty nine, he fouls out and that call, you know, I mean I I said on the postgame show, you could if you watch it, you could have called it. 00:03:25 Speaker 5: Like you can see how it's a charge. You could also see how it'd be a block. 00:03:28 Speaker 3: Yeah, And so I wish, oh, I wish Butler had not put him in itself in a position for the ref to blow that whistle. 00:03:35 Speaker 5: But then, you know, with him out and Robinson out, we basically were back with the same team we've had for the last few weeks, and they got the win. 00:03:42 Speaker 4: I'm with Drew. 00:03:42 Speaker 6: When Butler got that fifth volure talk, I thought myself, that's it because when he was on the floor, they were so much better. What he then won by one, and his plus minus was plus ten. I think if I'm mistaken, that's crazy. 00:03:52 Speaker 5: I mean, there's so much that's what. 00:03:54 Speaker 3: That's one of the reasons I think Big Blue Nation is waking up kind of excited. Is you see that when lamp Butler plays again, otake oways. 00:04:02 Speaker 5: His star game. 00:04:03 Speaker 3: We didn't mention his name yet, but Lamont Butler, like he just changes everything, and then so does Jackson. 00:04:08 Speaker 5: I mean we still we only got like a handful. 00:04:11 Speaker 3: Of minutes from Jackson Robinson. But the story is O TAKEO Away. You know, Otaga Away is the star of the game. He plays, you know, thirteen minutes where he's the only guy that gets a field goal at the end, and he the end of the game was clear out Otaga let's go, and he you know, he missed. I counted six layups or I think five layups. 00:04:34 Speaker 5: On the night. 00:04:34 Speaker 4: He struggled early, didn't he But. 00:04:36 Speaker 3: He made the ones that match yea, and the last one is one of those shots people will remember that you throw that in the sort of even though when a buzzer beater, it was kind of buzzer beater, like you're gonna remember that shot. 00:04:46 Speaker 5: It was a It was a legacy performance for Otago Way. 00:04:50 Speaker 6: I even said to yoga Girl said, in that first half, said Otaga can't handle the moment because he had missed so many, like two footers in that first half. 00:04:57 Speaker 3: I mean, he wasn't bad in the first twenty eight minutes, like bad, And I thought I wasn't gonna say that, and then Mark Pope said it, and I felt, Okay, Drew, if Mark Pope says and I can say he was bad. He was in the first twenty eight minutes, but then in the last twelve he acted like the first twenty eight hadn't happened. 00:05:15 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:05:15 Speaker 7: I keep some kind of running notes from my postgame work, and at the end of the game, I'm sitting there celebrating, ohway, and I looked down at the top. It says, moment too big for Oway, looks like Archie Goodwin not finishing at the rim. And I was like, yeah, we'll just delete that because the second half was a completely different score. 00:05:29 Speaker 5: He was everything. 00:05:30 Speaker 3: He missed the first two shots in the game way ups at the rim, he missed them both two footers. Yeah, and you thought and then he wasn't playing well on defense. No, but who would have thought that the two best players would have been the two guys returning home because Brandon Garrison. Brandon Garrison was awful in the first half, awful, and then the second half has his best half of Kentucky. 00:05:51 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:05:51 Speaker 3: I mean in the second half, I thought he was great, especially on defense. 00:05:56 Speaker 5: He was sliding his feet and it was just like the energy was amazing. Wow. 00:06:01 Speaker 3: I mean, those two guys were turning home decided to both have wonderful second half. 00:06:05 Speaker 6: Brandon Garrison back to back three pointers when we desperately needed him. 00:06:08 Speaker 5: But actually thought that was the only good thing he did in the first half. Yeah, and then in the second. 00:06:12 Speaker 4: Half he did everything, did everything. 00:06:13 Speaker 6: The block shots brought, brought a little attitude to the game that I think too much attitude. Well, definitely at the towards the end, it was too much attitude. 00:06:21 Speaker 3: We got to talk about Brandon Garrison like, Okay, so I love the energy, Yes, love the attitude. We were very close to having an Issa Comphys Texas A and M moment. 00:06:31 Speaker 5: We were. 00:06:31 Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, if there is any time left on that clock, he gets a technical and that would have been one. 00:06:37 Speaker 5: Of the all time worst are you kidding me? Moments? It didn't happen. 00:06:42 Speaker 3: Then they you know, during the postgame handshake, he's yelling at everyone on Earth and then a guy throws a beer can. I mean, Brandon Carrison had a heck of a last two minutes he did. I can't even imagine how bad that would have been. If they had have lost the game on him getting technical, that would have been leading Sports Center. 00:06:59 Speaker 5: They would have been. 00:07:00 Speaker 7: Talk talk about it on this He's like, how do you lose a game like that? It's it's clear he might run a little hot, might have a little. 00:07:06 Speaker 5: Bit of a fuse, but does this group need it? 00:07:08 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:07:08 Speaker 5: I mean it. 00:07:09 Speaker 7: You know, I'm not there, but it looked like they were just giving it to Oway and Garrison all night long, So I guess he finally snapped there at the end, getting the wind. But he played so great. He kind of had a little willion and he's other garden guards. I mean, he might have had the best sequence of his career earlier in the second half. He blocked fears and ran the court and got to end one miss the free throw. But it was a huge great But his defense was the best part by far. 00:07:33 Speaker 3: You know, he is a I want to say he's a ticking time bomb, but he is an emotional guy, clearly, and and and they were talking all the trash o way. 00:07:45 Speaker 5: It looked like always talk. 00:07:46 Speaker 3: Trash talk was playful with his former teammates, where his Garrisons was like not playful. 00:07:52 Speaker 5: But they both were going at it the whole time. 00:07:54 Speaker 6: You know. He just said on the pregame show, how Garrison is the one guy had maybe had degressed that digress and had gone backwards. Boy, he put put our foot in our mouth on after last night. He played awesome. He was doing everything and he needed to because Amari got in foul trouble, so Garrison had to get a lot of minutes. 00:08:11 Speaker 3: You know. I they played the last six minutes with two bigs. Yeah, and when they went to that lineup, I thought, I mean I I just thought this isn't gonna work, and it did. You know, I don't know what Pope saw that. The good Probably the good thing he thought is this is just my guas it was probably less offensive than defensive, that car and Almanor were not able to switch because they were switching everything and they were not able to switch. And I think he probably thought Garrison Williams could do it better. I'm that's just a gas but it worked in. 00:08:44 Speaker 7: The last six Yeah, I think that had to have been at Therefore, Jalen Moore, he's almost just like a big guard. I mean, he's quick and car we love him, but that's just not a game where he could keep up with More. Also, More and O Way were teammates, and they looked like they wanted to kill each other. 00:08:57 Speaker 5: There must be it looked like it was Smiley fight. 00:09:01 Speaker 7: Maybe I don't know. For two guys that you know, they were supposed. 00:09:04 Speaker 3: To be like not only teammates, but like good friends. They talk every week on the phone. 00:09:08 Speaker 6: They said during the broadcast, they'll talk this week. I'm thinking a couple of days. Let it let it rest for a couple of days, maybe on Sunday after I. 00:09:16 Speaker 3: Do love though, was it more shooting the free throws at the end? Yes, yeah, yes, And I mean, oh wait, that was who had the camera guy? That was a great shot. 00:09:24 Speaker 4: It was. 00:09:24 Speaker 3: It was a great shot of o Way John Adam and then he makes it and then oh. 00:09:28 Speaker 5: Way to I mean, what cajones to take the ball. 00:09:32 Speaker 3: And that shot was Sean Woods against Duke esque. 00:09:38 Speaker 6: Right, it was the most awkward game winning shot. I think I've ever seen ever. His body was completely twisted like a pretzel and somehow kind of behind his head. 00:09:48 Speaker 3: Body was like if this is the basket. His his hips were paid were over here. His body was like here, and then the shot. 00:09:58 Speaker 5: Came from Mike right here. 00:09:59 Speaker 4: How do he hit that? 00:10:00 Speaker 3: I don't know how I hit that. I mean, of course that was great viewing for all the three of you are the only people. 00:10:04 Speaker 5: That saw that. But I mean, seriously that like, how he did that, I don't know. 00:10:09 Speaker 6: You know, we've seen some great performances by UK basketball players over the year, some outstanding performances. But that final twelve minutes against his old team where he scored the last eighteen points and hit that awkward game when he shot, deserves to be maybe in our top five of all time for Kentucky. 00:10:23 Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean thirteen minutes of field that you do have to say, like when you're talking individual sec sec performances, you know, let's just think of the last few years. Obviously there's the all timers, the Jodie Meeks Tennessee, the Elik Monks that was against North Carolina. 00:10:39 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean those are all. 00:10:40 Speaker 3: Antonio Reeves against Arkansas, But like then in that next tier, I think always in it, like Jeff Shephard against Mississippi Star Reach the Mississippi. 00:10:51 Speaker 5: State last year. 00:10:53 Speaker 3: You know, Brandon Knight had a game, I can't remember which one, but he had a game like this where he just kind of took over at the end. But this one's up there, Drew, I mean, that's that you're not gonna get a last better ten minutes than you got from O way and really the last minute Kentucky as a team with a minute left, Pope calls time out and draws up that play to get the wide open left I mean wide beautiful by Pope. Then they turn around and play incredible defense for thirty seconds and they call a foul one second on the shot clock kind of bell. Uh yeah, they that defense was great and it was all five guys and then gets the miss free throw right away. 00:11:32 Speaker 5: Oh with it. 00:11:33 Speaker 7: With that finish, they tried to make Oway go left and he still got to that right hand. But just that whole minute was perfection. 00:11:38 Speaker 5: Yeah, that you're exactly right. You know. 00:11:40 Speaker 3: They had to play there down one and they came down and the one, dude, they gave him another three. 00:11:47 Speaker 5: It was interesting. 00:11:47 Speaker 3: He had made one, and so I'm sure they were like I thought, if he makes this one, the dude with the hair, Yeah, they gave him another one and he missed it. Yes, and uh and and then we came down and Old Way did his things. So it's a huge win. I mean, just let's look big picture for a second about the win. I think, now, as long as we beat LSU, we are probably getting to buy in the SEC tournament. I mean, there are ways we could beat LSU and not get it, but it would take like a lot of upsets. So now beat LSU, you're probably getting to be a bye in the SEC tournament. That's good. 00:12:21 Speaker 5: Yes, not having to play Wednesday one. 00:12:23 Speaker 3: A and M losing at home to Vandy kind of opens up. Now if you can win two, you may end up not being the eight seed and getting to play at night, avoiding Auburn in the quarterfinals. Like a path can start to open up where you go, oh, wait a minute, maybe we can do something. So A and M's loss at home opens up. Kentucky could get up to the six. I don't want to dream the impossible dream, but if they were to win out, they could get up to the four. 00:12:52 Speaker 5: I don't think that'll happen. 00:12:53 Speaker 3: I also think Tennessee probably won't lose two games, but it's there's a world of that. But you've definitely could get to where you get a five or six seed. You know, if you can win at Missouri, if we beat Auburn. Now, let's look at the NCAA tournament. Beat LSU. I think you're three or a high four, depending on what you do in the in the SEC excuse me, SEC tournament, beat Missouri. 00:13:19 Speaker 5: Definitely a three. 00:13:21 Speaker 3: Beat Missouri and win some games in the NCAA tournament, might get up to a two, as crazy as that sounds. 00:13:27 Speaker 4: And you know that it won't surprise me if they're able to do that. 00:13:29 Speaker 6: This is just that team where I don't I don't count them out against Auburn on Saturday, and I don't count them out on the road at Missouri. 00:13:36 Speaker 4: They could, they could if we're dreaming right now, do win out. 00:13:39 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:13:40 Speaker 3: I start to look this time of year, Drew, and I actually start to look at matchups, and I do think it's important after after after watching that, to look at the matchups. Okay, if we can stay a three seed, all right, if we can stay a three seed. 00:13:54 Speaker 5: The way this is. 00:13:55 Speaker 3: Working out, they're not gonna likely put the two seed to be an S team. So you look and say, we could be a three seed, and it's almost certain our two seed would either be Michigan State or I was stayed, Well, I don't I'm not scared of those two teams the two seed, and so all of a sudden, like you're like, oh, wait a minute, there's a path through to make a. 00:14:16 Speaker 7: Run, right, absolutely, Michigan State. They wasted their magic last night. You all saw that. Uh the kN Palm analytics, you know, they predict every game moving forward. If you take all the predictions to the SEC teams, they Kentucky finishing as a sixth seed in the tournament in SEC tournament. 00:14:32 Speaker 5: Excuse me? 00:14:32 Speaker 7: So six would be great analytically, that's the likely scenarios. 00:14:35 Speaker 5: Six would be awesome. 00:14:36 Speaker 3: So I mean that that game last night was huge for just setting up. 00:14:40 Speaker 5: Okay, now there's there's a lot of stuff. I think. I think that's why Butler and Robinson play. 00:14:45 Speaker 3: Yes, I think is that is that Pope kind of said we gotta this is what we gotta get, and they went and. 00:14:51 Speaker 6: Got Butler looked, looked, you know, fine, he got in bout trouble. But Robinson, I guess reinjured at risk a little bit. That's concerned you a little bit a little. 00:14:59 Speaker 5: Bit, but I think that's this is gonna be how he is. It's gonna be gamed a game. 00:15:02 Speaker 3: He did make three jump shots, which actually made me feel better same because again, having had a wrist injury, I couldn't imagine trying to make that motion and he was clearly able to do it. So I do feel better about that. We do have to talk about Norman, Oklahoma. That place seems to stink. Also, the SEC network really made some people happy. 00:15:23 Speaker 5: So we will go through all that. We'll be right back. 00:15:25 Speaker 3: We are here at Ks Bar and Grill Cats with a major victory. Is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio af IM nine eighty seven. Got some folks on the phone, gonna get to you in just a second. Let's let's go over quickly the rest of it. 00:15:41 Speaker 5: Norman, Oklahoma. What's wrong with those people? Right? 00:15:44 Speaker 8: Like? 00:15:45 Speaker 3: It's I'm all for getting into it. First of all, you can't even field place up. You got dollar beer and free tacos and places like you know. Two thirds full multiple go big blue chants come over the air in the middle of the game. It's one thing for that to happen at the end after we've one, but in the middle of the game, Oklahoma fans, do you have any pride? Then you're sitting there throwing beer? 00:16:06 Speaker 5: After the game? 00:16:06 Speaker 3: Shout out to Adam Stratton for KSR. He lives out on the West Coast. He's been to two games this year, gonzag and Oklahoma. He's gotten some great video, but he gets a video of a beer can being chucked at Brandon Garrison. Garrison nearly goes up in the crowd. That would have been a scene. 00:16:21 Speaker 7: That sounded full like if that can had hit him, that would have been some serious damage. Then you were still around as a fud. 00:16:27 Speaker 3: You were saying somebody wrote you and said something that happened at the bus. 00:16:30 Speaker 7: Connor just tweeted me said he was there last night and when the UK bus pulled out, fans were waiting, yelling for Garrison and O wait to come get off the bus like they were already ready for him. 00:16:39 Speaker 5: I mean, come on, like, what's wrong? 00:16:43 Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you know I used to say Starkville was the worst place, But the reality is starkvill at least gets a good atmosphere for the games. 00:16:49 Speaker 5: The Hump is rocking for those games. 00:16:51 Speaker 3: Is Norman, Oklahoma now our new worst basketball atmosphere in the SEC? 00:16:56 Speaker 4: Maybe it is. 00:16:56 Speaker 6: Maybe they're all just mad because they have to live in Norman, Oklahoma. 00:17:01 Speaker 4: You never even been there, never been there? 00:17:03 Speaker 7: Yeah, No, he didn't know where it was yesterday. 00:17:06 Speaker 5: Yeah, so that seems a little harsh. 00:17:08 Speaker 6: It is, like you said earlier, it is kind of cool for us because a long time, these homecoming games don't go very well. But the two kids that shine the most had these strong Oklahoma connections. 00:17:18 Speaker 3: How about Mark Pope After the game goes out, if you were at the game and you didn't stay, you missed it. He let every Kentucky fan that stayed wait and sign an autograph and get a picture. 00:17:27 Speaker 5: Wow. I said. 00:17:28 Speaker 3: It was between one hundred and fifty and two hundred people and he just stood there and took a picture and sign an autograph with everybody before they left to get on the. 00:17:36 Speaker 5: Plane to fly back. So he probably just made everybody wait and he stood with all the fans. That is awesome, It really is. That is awesome. 00:17:42 Speaker 7: Yeah, you think they'd want to get the heck out of there nine o'clock game. You got a flight. 00:17:45 Speaker 5: Coach had dogs, so we had dogs. He had dogs. He had to go. 00:17:49 Speaker 7: See One time he literally said I gotta go, I gotta get to my car, and I thought, we all have to get to our car. What does that mean? But we had Stratton live on YouTube with us, and he just walked over to where all these fans were lined up waiting for and I'm interviewing. I'm like, are they doing the autograph thing on the road. He's like yeah, and Pope's sitting here signing them all. So that was just another added bonus for people that were able to make that game. 00:18:08 Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just a great It's I said this on the postgame show, and I encourage you to listen to the postgame show and don't worry, we're gonna talk about Billy because Billy Shannon Billy was I don't know what Billy. 00:18:19 Speaker 2: Was on the pre show. 00:18:21 Speaker 5: I'm gonna give you the real scoop. 00:18:22 Speaker 3: I don't know what, but Billy's you know, spin is from the White House press room. 00:18:27 Speaker 5: I mean it's a that I don't like Nine o'clock games. Okay, I don't. I think they're too late on the road. Like we here at the bar. 00:18:36 Speaker 3: We don't have as big a crowd for a nine as a seven, and I'm selfish about that, although we did have a good crowd last night, but it's not what it is for seven o'clock game. 00:18:43 Speaker 5: But there is. 00:18:45 Speaker 3: Something special when you play that nine o'clock game on the road and get a win and it's very late night, and like it's like everybody knows they need to go to bed, but they can't quite go to bed, and they're excited about it. It makes me think of my youth, Ryan, because we used to always play on Tuesday or Wednesday night than nine o'clock game. There would be a big ten game at seven, and then they would have us go at nine, and since we were the best program, we played probably five nine o'clock games a year. This year we've only had one. ESPN does the schedule differently now because there are more SEC games on. 00:19:17 Speaker 5: So there was some kind. 00:19:18 Speaker 3: Of old school about staying up and watching that game and winning it. 00:19:21 Speaker 4: Now I totally agree with you. 00:19:22 Speaker 6: There used to be so many nine o'clock games became kind of the norm now it's almost a little special. You got one nine o'clock game where you know, you know, everybody's up late and staying up late well you know, drug crogging and drag. 00:19:34 Speaker 5: Yeah, drug yeah yeah. 00:19:36 Speaker 3: And also it feels like when we played in these road games, some of them like Oklahoma, it's like not well lit. It kind of looks it kind of looks dark in there, and then you get announcers and you're like, who is Phil Pott and Hendricks and like you don't know who they are? 00:19:50 Speaker 5: By the way, I thought they did a good job. They did, so that was cool. 00:19:54 Speaker 3: Now I saw the game was gonna be on only the ESPN app, so I was like, I'm just gonna watch it on there, And until halftime I did not realize we didn't get to the game on the network until like six and a half minutes left. 00:20:07 Speaker 5: Is that right? 00:20:07 Speaker 7: There were three minutes left in A and M Vanderbilt on the clock at exactly nine o'clock. That game went another forty five minutes. YEP, with three minutes of basketball. They had a two hour and forty five minute basketball game that no one cared about. Should go into the monitors in a seven point game, they're showing Buzz picking his nose with a towel, like, what are we doing? Can we get a split screen or something? 00:20:29 Speaker 3: And you know, there had to be more people wanting to watch the Kentucky game, I mean them watching that one, and so you all that didn't you all missed like we should have been up ten at the beginning. We were playing well, we just couldn't stop them and they would hit. You know, they had five turnovers in the first three and a half minutes Oklahoma, and we should have had a lead that we didn't give up. It just didn't quite happen. Amari looked like he got hurt. I mean, there was a lot going on at the beginning. I think a lot of our turn team just are fans. 00:20:59 Speaker 5: Just yeah. 00:21:00 Speaker 6: I think when we finally joined in, Amari was already on the bench with two fouls. I think Carr had just picked up his second foul. So our two big starting bigs were all I listened to Tom and Jack until it came on. 00:21:11 Speaker 5: I was watched to see any of that. 00:21:13 Speaker 3: No, so you didn't see the Amari foul where the guy grabbed him with. 00:21:17 Speaker 4: Drugg him down. I've still not seen it. 00:21:18 Speaker 5: Yeah, it was. 00:21:20 Speaker 3: I mean, Amari did kind of charge, but then they didn't call the foul at first. Then the guy pulled him down with his legs and that is when they called the foul. It was a really bizarre sequence there when they called that foul of the Mary. 00:21:33 Speaker 7: How about just the collective? Oh no, though he was so excited to get everyone back in a minute or two into the game, Amari Williams, Now, maybe your best player is over there. I mean, at that point we had no clue what was going on. That was terrifying. 00:21:46 Speaker 3: And they went to break, so he got hurt and then they went to break, and so during the break you're like, what, like I need like and you know, then again Adam Stratton shout out to him, tweets out that he's walking off, and he's okay, But you know, you went to break thinking, oh, are you kidding me? 00:22:01 Speaker 5: Now we're losing Amari too. 00:22:04 Speaker 6: If we just got Butler and Robinson back, now, if I understand, listen of Tom and Jack. Robinson missed his first two shots, but then he hit two in a row after that. 00:22:12 Speaker 3: And his first two misses were bad, like barely grazing the ram, and then he had a three where he was wide open, and I think all the big Blue nation that was seeing the game, which may not be many, was like, okay, please go in. And it was one of those Robinson nothing but now uh huh, And then you went, okay, he's all right, all right, he's all right like that. That was for me. That was a big like okay, good when I saw that shot. 00:22:37 Speaker 7: And with the threes, how about winning a game with Brandon Garrison being the only player hitting two threes. I mean, Kobe played good defense, but he was one for six. You think you have one for six from Kobe, probably not gonna be a good night, but Brandon Garrison leading the way in three point shooting. 00:22:50 Speaker 6: I want to say this about Kobe at the end when they were trying to make this defensive stop, he was one of the five guys Pope put out there for defense. 00:22:57 Speaker 3: By the way, Kobe also made some big shots in the first half to keep us going. He didn't make him in the second, but I do think it is worth note and he made him in the first. All right, We'll take your calls very back. Sca suck TJ Smith personal injury attorney call TJ. 00:23:10 Speaker 5: He'll make them pay. 00:23:12 Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:16 Speaker 3: All, I'm gonna go to the home phones right after this, but we do have to talk about Billy for a minute, all right. So having a postgame show, good calls, mostly positive, one or two negative, but good energy, a lot of good stuff going on. 00:23:30 Speaker 5: Ready to rock. Last segment. 00:23:33 Speaker 3: He tells me in the break, he's like, we got five callers. I was like, let's finish with these five. One of them's Heather. I always know I can count on a good Heather call. 00:23:40 Speaker 4: Absolutely. 00:23:41 Speaker 3: One of them was I think a woman named Darlene. I was like, I've never met at Darlene. I didn't like, that'll be good. We're ready to rock. He brings on Heather. Heather, you need to go back here this on postgame show. Heather's a little upset. 00:23:54 Speaker 5: Billy. I guess had told her, you've called three shows in a row. You have to take a bro now, all right. So here's my view on that. 00:24:06 Speaker 3: To be fair to Billy, we do have conversations about we can't put the same people through every time, because if you. 00:24:13 Speaker 5: Did, there'd be a handful of people that would call every. 00:24:15 Speaker 3: Time, but she's not one of them, right, So she's not one of those. She called the first time because of the flood thing, right, right, she called the third time because it's late at night, and at one thirty at night, we were full of calls last night. 00:24:29 Speaker 5: But that's not always the case. 00:24:31 Speaker 3: Sometimes at one thirty at night, you gotta kind of take what you get, right, last night was a little different, So I guess he said that to her, and it clearly upset her, and she came on at first that I thought she was kid with Billy, but then it became clear like she was upset, She got tears, she h by. 00:24:47 Speaker 5: The end was kind of crimed. See. 00:24:50 Speaker 3: So here's the thing, Shannon, you're you're an epic producer. You know me better than anybody, right, when it comes to calls, you know the moment I want. Shannon reads my mind when it comes to call. He knows the moment I want the phone call to end. He knows who in the moment would be the best to talk to, and he nicely. You've had to tell people. Do you tell people not to call you just don't answer their call? 00:25:12 Speaker 2: I mean, I've had a form of that conversation with callers throughout the years, you know, where somebody calls every day for five straight days and say, hey, you know, we want to talk to you, but maybe call next week. 00:25:21 Speaker 5: Yeah. But I don't know what Billy said, so I can't say whether he's. 00:25:25 Speaker 4: Rude or not. 00:25:25 Speaker 5: I didn't hear the conversation. 00:25:27 Speaker 3: But Heather is not one of those callers. Heather because of her accent and everything, like, I can make a Heather call interesting no matter what. That's really just so for people listening, like my thing, what the cause is? 00:25:41 Speaker 5: I want it to be interesting. 00:25:42 Speaker 3: And if I think that you're interesting naturally or I can make you interesting, then I'm gonna put you on all the time. 00:25:49 Speaker 5: Heather is one of those. 00:25:50 Speaker 3: That's pretty naturally interesting and I can make her interesting. So it was a little bit of a mistake from Billy, but it's okay. 00:25:58 Speaker 5: Everybody makes mistakes, so yes, they do. 00:26:00 Speaker 3: Your sister and your brother, and your dad and mother too, big people, small people, matter of fact, all people. 00:26:04 Speaker 5: Everyone makes a mistake. 00:26:05 Speaker 4: Ryan, so waking, what kind of nursery rhyme is that. 00:26:10 Speaker 5: Version of that? I've heard shortened versions of sesame straight or something like. 00:26:14 Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, it's not I don't know it's from it's from something. But anyway, my mom used to sing that to me when I would screw up when I was a little kid, and like five years ago. So anyway, So, but she was very upset. So then I feel like I have the console her on the air, which I do. Here's the thing, the text machine, like Billy has never been less popular than the people that were listening last night, And when you all go back and listen on podcasts, you're gonna feel the same way, like Billy is approaching Elon Musk at the Democratic National Convention levels of popularity, like that's where we're getting. 00:26:55 Speaker 5: Okay, So he again, he's such a like I'm not gonna apologize. I'm like, I don't know, Drew. 00:27:04 Speaker 3: I feel like he's gonna have to get people back on that one because everybody loves Heather with that accent and everything. 00:27:09 Speaker 7: What do you think I was listening? I was hurting at home. There was even a point where you said, Heather, are you gonna call back? And there was like a three second pause. I think I got a lump in my throat just waiting for her to answer. She wouldn't even commit. 00:27:21 Speaker 3: I was an awkward three seconds because I wanted her to just say yes, and she was like, and she said she had to think about it. 00:27:27 Speaker 5: So I'm telling you, Heather, call back. 00:27:29 Speaker 3: Billy knows you have a Heather Hall pass right, like you get to go right on the line if you call. 00:27:36 Speaker 5: What do you think about it? 00:27:38 Speaker 6: I heard Billy give his take on the pre show this morning, standing and then like he said, he did apologize. He said he would do it again. 00:27:44 Speaker 5: That's what That's not an apology. You can't sorry, but I would do it. Progress with Billy. 00:27:52 Speaker 2: You know, before he would take responsibility but wouldn't apologize. 00:27:54 Speaker 5: Now he's apologizing responsibility. 00:27:58 Speaker 7: If I if I could give Billy a piece of advine, little pr advice, I think there was a lot of on the pre show, a little some jabs he didn't have to give. He could have just moved on, but a lot of like, oh, here's somebody gonna cry about it. You know, I would have just left it as is. We all understand why he did it, like you said, and this is part of producing. 00:28:13 Speaker 5: It's part of it. 00:28:14 Speaker 7: Maybe he didn't handle it well, but I would have apologized and tried to move on not to continue to press a little bit. 00:28:19 Speaker 3: Shannon and I have fourteen years of reading each other's mind, and for a number of those years we were in the same place, so he could look at me and kind of have a sense of what I want to do. So he got to know. Billy doesn't see me during the show. So that's a little different. 00:28:34 Speaker 5: I get it. 00:28:34 Speaker 3: I'm not mad at Billy, but like, like, mistakes happen, but now Billy has to fix it. But here's what I've learned about Billy. The mistakes he doesn't He doesn't like. 00:28:46 Speaker 5: To admit mistakes right right, Like I you've heard me. 00:28:50 Speaker 3: I get frustrated sometimes and like my mom will text me and go, you need to calm him down or something, and then I go, and then I come back and go, you know what, my bad. 00:28:58 Speaker 7: She sings you the Oscar the Ground song, and she just got. 00:29:00 Speaker 3: To occasionally get to my bad and just let and because he didn't do that last night, and I think that's gonna. 00:29:06 Speaker 5: I think it's gonna live with him for a little bit if he's not careful. 00:29:09 Speaker 6: Shannon has had to have this exact same conversation with some people we really really like, some callers. 00:29:14 Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not going to embarrass them who they are. But there's people that we've had that. There's people we've had to say hey, just and pretty much all of them handle that. I think so so hopefully have their will too. 00:29:24 Speaker 7: And of all the people, Heather, she's the sweetest, you know in the voice. I met her son like two weeks ago. We sent her a picture they did. They're all just so nice. Blood Yeah, yeah, just went through that. 00:29:34 Speaker 4: We just went losing her. 00:29:35 Speaker 3: I will say this though, the text machine billy popularity hit all time loves last night. 00:29:40 Speaker 7: I think uh someone started a chaos board thread at like two thirty am. I was like, oh god, watch this. 00:29:47 Speaker 2: Who's up for Bob and Jamestown? 00:29:49 Speaker 5: But you you were about to get it for me? Right there? Go ahead, Tyler, go ahead, Tyler. 00:30:04 Speaker 8: Hey, Matt, buddy, I'm so fired up. I haven't been to sleep since that ballgame. Like I'm uh yeah, But I've got one question and one quick point. My question is do you think that the players listen to this show? And the reason I asked that is because it's well, the reason I asked that, it seems like like the last couple of weeks all been crushing Brandon Garrison just because you know he hasn't been playing. 00:30:29 Speaker 5: Here's here's what you know. 00:30:30 Speaker 3: I don't understand though, if if we're crushing him, and I don't think we're crushing him, but if we're being critical Brandon Garrison, guess who else is Pope like he's not getting Brandon Garrison is not playing. To convince me, Mark Pope sees stuff we don't, right, Like, if we're being critical, then Pope's being critical. I do think the players see some stuff on social media. I have over the years tried to mellow my criticism on social media of players individually. I'm not perfect about it, because sometimes you have to. But I do think they see Twitter and maybe TikTok criticism. I do not think they hear radio criticism. So one of the things Mario and I talk about is if we have a critical segment, I'll say to Mario, let's not put that one on TikTok, right, But no, do I think they download the podcast and listen to this. 00:31:24 Speaker 5: No, I do not. 00:31:27 Speaker 8: And my point, my quick point is I've been I've been saying to my mom every time every game, I felt this way the whole season. If there is a way, there's a way. 00:31:38 Speaker 5: Get it. I appreciate it. I got it. I'm with you. I like that one. 00:31:43 Speaker 6: I was so proud of that guy last night because, like we said, he struggled, but then in front of his old teammates, his old coach, he rose to the occasion like I've never it's eight His last or last eighteen points came from that guy. And every time we went to the basket, I k know he was gonna hit it. He was just you were that confidence except for that last shot, that last shout, and he's all twisted like a pretzel. 00:32:01 Speaker 4: Didn't think he's gonna hit. 00:32:03 Speaker 7: You mentioned John Woods actually had that same thought. How he just threw it up off the glass and it banked him perfectly. You know, of all things that were surprising, though, it wasn't his twenty eight point homecoming. It was Mark Pope cussing on television. 00:32:15 Speaker 3: Talk about Mark my mind as as you don't see those cuss words from him a lot. 00:32:19 Speaker 5: Who's next, Michael? How are you? Michael? Hey? What's up? 00:32:25 Speaker 9: Good morning? 00:32:25 Speaker 5: So good morning? 00:32:28 Speaker 9: I have a Can I add something before? I mentioned like these little points real quick, it's it's regarding what you just said about calls. Yes, how do you all look at calls? 00:32:41 Speaker 5: Like? 00:32:42 Speaker 9: Do you all scream them? Do you all just know? 00:32:44 Speaker 7: Does it? 00:32:45 Speaker 9: Like caller ID? Is Shannon or Billy back there? Like, No, I can't take this person, you know? And then you know he just moves on to another call, Like how does that work? 00:32:55 Speaker 8: No? 00:32:56 Speaker 5: Shannon and Billy decide. 00:32:57 Speaker 3: Sometimes Shannon will tell me during the break like, Hey, this person uh is on the phone? Do you want to take them first? But in general, I just let let Shannon and Billy decide. I'd rather this is I'm weird, like unlike a lot of hosts, I want to have no idea what's coming next. 00:33:14 Speaker 5: So like even on ESPN. On ESPN and other. 00:33:16 Speaker 3: Shows, if you call, they tell they make you say what you're going to talk about. I talked, I convince my producer. I don't want to know what they're going to talk about. Just give it to me. Uh, I give it to me. Wrong, I'm not gonna stop saying that, but you know, I just want it to be unfiltered. 00:33:31 Speaker 2: And Michael, when you call it, I didn't ask anything except for your name. 00:33:34 Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's a little different. 00:33:37 Speaker 9: Well, the reason I asked that because I've called I've called almost quite a bit of postgame shows, and my buddies have cracked up about it. So that's why I just asked. In fact, one of my buddies said I should call it the Billy R Sports Postgame Show. 00:33:52 Speaker 3: No, Billy is definitely. Billy's a different kind of traffic cop. Like Billy on the Postgame Show. He's like and I And I actually don't mind that because I I like he just made he. 00:34:02 Speaker 5: Made a boo boo last night. But in general, I think Billy does a good job with the post game show calls. 00:34:07 Speaker 9: Okay, okay, so just real quick. 00:34:10 Speaker 3: Uh. 00:34:10 Speaker 9: I don't know if y'all seen this, but Moore was cussing at Garrison last night. I laughed so hard watching them. 00:34:16 Speaker 3: Jew off the whole night More More and Fears versus O Way and Garrison was quite was quite a set of John. 00:34:26 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:34:26 Speaker 9: My wife was like, oh my gosh, look at him. He's like cussing him out and stuff. I'm not gonna say the words on age. 00:34:33 Speaker 5: You can't say that. 00:34:34 Speaker 9: You can't say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I did. I Also, I didn't know if you've seen the last the last minute shot with Maryland in Michigan State. 00:34:42 Speaker 5: We'll get to that. We'll get to that. That's yeah, we'll get to that. What'd you think about the that's it. 00:34:47 Speaker 3: You've already done three things you can't There's never I never let more than two. 00:34:51 Speaker 5: When I give you three, you can't, then yell. 00:34:53 Speaker 7: For don't make us call Billy in and talk to you. Pass you off to that. 00:34:57 Speaker 5: What do you think about all the trash talk? Are you okay with it? 00:34:59 Speaker 7: I mean it's someone not involved. It made it entertaining. I thought it was a little much from uh from almost at Arkansas who they play Oklahoma. I have not slept, but I mean it, it makes it entertaining. I can't remember a game that had that much of it going back. I mean the reason I said Arkansas because there was one years ago at the SEC Tournament where I thought we were just gonna fight every minute. But I can't remember a game in recent memory that was as much jawing and extracurriculars as that one. 00:35:24 Speaker 6: And like you said, when Oway was doing it with Norman and a lot of the game kind of had a little quirky little smile because they're buddies. Yeah, but there was stuff where like Ohwa was with fears, I think't like each other. 00:35:36 Speaker 7: Garrison didn't like each other, and Amari carried Garrison the link of the court at the end. 00:35:41 Speaker 3: We've seen recent flooding this week of major proportion. We hope your family is safe. So remember, serve pro is the company to call for flooding restoration one eight hundred serf Pro. You're clean up specialist. If you hope we don't need it. But if you need water clean up flood restoration one eight hundred serve Pro. They are all in Kentucky right now helping out. It's s pro dot com. That's se r vp r O dot com. We hope you don't need it, but if you do, there is serf Pro. We'll take a break and be right back. 00:36:07 Speaker 5: This kisar How about that. 00:36:15 Speaker 6: I guess you know those words because your mom probably saying that to you a lot. 00:36:18 Speaker 3: Yeah, because I would get if I made a mistake and I made my mom mad, which did happen sometimes, not very much, because I was a good kid. But if I did, she'd be frustrated, and then I'd be sad because I had made her upset, And so then I think she would see that, Like it was kind of like Heather last night, right, Like I would be sad because I had made the authority figure in this case my mom, in Heather's case Billy. And then the thing is, my mom would try to make me feel better, whereas Billy would just get defensive and get and get and get angry, and so like that would be the difference between, like Drew, my mom and Billy in those circumstances. 00:36:58 Speaker 7: I can't imagine you ever get to trouble. You're mountain angel. 00:37:02 Speaker 5: But I didn't. I really didn't get in trouble. All my trouble was was talking too much. 00:37:07 Speaker 8: That was me. 00:37:08 Speaker 3: I got the I get the wist, the point guard whispers too much. 00:37:12 Speaker 5: That was the check mark on my card. 00:37:14 Speaker 7: And they would separate me and my friends in class. You two can't sit together, you don't. I think I've told you. I think I've told this story once before. 00:37:20 Speaker 3: When I was in uh sixth grade, I said the the the F word in school. Oh, and you would have thought I had committed murder the way that the way my mom and and and finally, I think my grandfather was like he doesn't do anything wrong, like give him a break, give him a few f just like just a couple of F bombs and everything will be fine. But anyway, all right, so let's speaking of f bombs. Let's talk about Mark Pope. Last night, we see, uh, we see a cuss word come out of his mouth to the referee. 00:37:54 Speaker 5: Uh so, lamtt Butler. 00:37:56 Speaker 3: Uh you know, Lamtt Butler gets his fifth foul and uh we see Mark Pope say, did he say blanking bull blanking or did he just say something bull blanket. 00:38:08 Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure that's being blanket just to be just to beat. 00:38:12 Speaker 3: So he said the S word, which you know in the Mormon church will get you sinned, like that's that's bad. But he said it got caught on tape. Is this like a Flanders moment? Like first time he's ned Flanders, first time he sinned? 00:38:28 Speaker 5: Is that what we're seeing? 00:38:29 Speaker 6: I I felt good about it because he said exactly what every one of us was feeling at that moment. That's bs, That's exactly what we all felt like. So you know, I'm sure he was very very frustrated because he saw how valuable Butler is to this team, and he was gone, did. 00:38:43 Speaker 5: You what do you think I loved it. 00:38:45 Speaker 7: We needed I think the fan base needed to see it. You know, Old Miss. That game stunk, but I think a lot of us kind of liked hearing that he went a little destructive behind the scenes. We love that he's nice. He's the maybe the nicest guy around UK's anything. 00:38:57 Speaker 5: Do you think there's a. 00:38:58 Speaker 3: Little spice there that we just have seen yet, that there's little Mark Pope, you know Mark Pope. When things start rocking, he'll start knocking. 00:39:06 Speaker 7: A few weeks ago, I was with someone that participates in behind the scenes with Kentucky basketball and I, you know, I wasn't bugging him and I was like, just Pope, like cuss and they're like, oh yeah. 00:39:15 Speaker 5: I was like, okay, just good. Just need to know that, you know, we know if I yeah. 00:39:20 Speaker 3: I mean, you think you think he's got maybe not a sailor's mouth, but he's got a mouth. 00:39:25 Speaker 7: When it needs to. I think it's like when he talked about the Old Miss moment. Sometimes you gotta be white hot to get your moment across. I think his bs last night with him being white hot, dark Pope, that's what we call him when he when he flipset switch did you see the. 00:39:36 Speaker 3: Little clip on Vice with Rick Patino, Yes, and like, by the way, if you haven't seen this, you should see it. Like it's Patino at halftime of Saint John's playing somebody I'm not sure, and he does this whole thing where he's like, if you have adversity in life, you could even feel sorry for yourself, or you can buck up and try harder. And we try harder. This is gonna happen your whole life. And like you said at the end, and you're like, whoa man? 00:40:02 Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I. 00:40:03 Speaker 3: Can see Rick, You're seventy one years old. You're not supposed to be yelling at dudes like this. But I think it worked, like you could. 00:40:09 Speaker 5: Just he still got that fire he does. 00:40:12 Speaker 3: And there was a Tom Sigura, the comedian, he played it on his podcast and was like, this is this is what you want? I mean, it was kind of cool to see Rick still got that. 00:40:22 Speaker 4: He had that one line said who raised you? 00:40:24 Speaker 5: You know he raised you? Yeah? 00:40:26 Speaker 3: That was the best far who raised you? So Mark maybe has a little bit of that too. We just I mean, we know he broke the board, we hurt his hand. 00:40:33 Speaker 4: He's such a competitor. 00:40:34 Speaker 6: I mean, the people behind the scenes don't understand how much of a competitor he is and he does not like to lose. So I can see where a frustration like that in that moment, maybe you slip up and say one of those bad words that your mom was getting mad at you. 00:40:46 Speaker 4: If the'm saying, well. 00:40:47 Speaker 3: Everyone makes mistakes, including Mark Pope the S word in public. That'sh Who's up next? 00:40:54 Speaker 2: Steve in Oklahoma? 00:40:55 Speaker 5: Steve? What's up? Steve? 00:40:59 Speaker 10: Hey, guys, long time, first time? 00:41:01 Speaker 5: Who are. 00:41:03 Speaker 8: So? 00:41:04 Speaker 10: I'm in Tulfa. I meant to the game last night, first time in Lloyd Noble and wasn't too impressed. Obviously you got to tell for the TV it wasn't a very great atmosphere. 00:41:15 Speaker 5: But yeah, it was great. 00:41:17 Speaker 10: But there's probably least two thousand cast fans that it was a great to be part of that. My son and I went but a way shot and was right in front of us on our seats, and man, what a he was just gonna will us to the game to win that. I mean, to score the last eighteen points? Has it ever been done in UK history before? 00:41:37 Speaker 5: I don't. I don't think so. 00:41:38 Speaker 3: If we ever had anyone, well he didn't score the last eighteen. They did get two free throws from someone else, But I appreciate the call. He said, Do you remember has there ever been a time we've gone that long with the field goals? I mean maybe back in the day when we scored like twelve points, but in the modern era, you. 00:41:53 Speaker 4: Think not that I can remember. 00:41:54 Speaker 6: And like you mentioned that North Carolina game, Leak Monks scored a bunch their team, but I don't think he got eighteen in a row like that. 00:41:59 Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure there's not been a game we've won where we've had one player scored the last thirteen minutes of field goals. 00:42:07 Speaker 5: I bet that's never happened in a game we won. 00:42:09 Speaker 7: No, it was Todd at sixty and it hit a three to break the tie, and that was the beginning of twenty one out of the last twenty three points with the two free throws you mentioned, breaking it up. 00:42:16 Speaker 3: From what a great win, we got a lot of other stuff to talk to, a kind of a sad death this morning, and also Louisville fans showing their little brotherness yesterday. 00:42:30 Speaker 5: We'll talk about all that be right back
