Episode 112 - The Badab war pt 1 - The lead up to the conflict

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we begin our coverage of the Badab War. Opening with a breakdown of the real situation between the chapters of the space marines and the Lords of Terra. From there we jump into the Maelstrom sector and the Astral Claws function there, with Huron rising up to seizing control of and then calling himself the “tyrant of Badab,” to which everyone just went “yeah sounds normal.” We then follow the path as the Claws come into conflict with the Kathargo trade lords, and how this conflict eventually led to a full scale war in the sector. Before we finish though we go into the numerous alliances that turned this sector into southern Europe in 1914.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Forty K. Lorkas with me, John Barzati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_01]: Disguise.
[SPEAKER_01]: On today's cast, we've following up our Carcadon's cast, the dive into the kind of their most famous interaction with the Imperium, the Badab or Badab, sorry guys and events.
[SPEAKER_01]: Basically what happened was I was doing all my research in the Carcadron's.
[SPEAKER_01]: I had to reread this story and now I talk about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So here we go.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on, to be fair, you're wildly more excited about the world, but to have the new world about the car car adults in this way cooler.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm just saying I want everybody to know we're going to have some serious juice on this because John came out of nowhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was just like, let's talk about red course sares and the origins of the red courses.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll just put that board's, I don't know, this is
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get it done.
[SPEAKER_01]: 40K Laura Cass, a weekly show in the lore of the Warhammer 40K universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
[SPEAKER_01]: For those of you who would like to show, please comment on it and subscribe.
[SPEAKER_01]: It does help us out a lot from an algorithm standpoint.
[SPEAKER_01]: Move this up in rankings and push this out to more people.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of you have done it so far.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do read the comments still.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are this far in.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have now read thousands upon thousands of comments, and they are quite entertaining.
[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you for that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Additionally, if you like listening to our voices, that's on you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, wanna hear more about us.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can go to our YouTube, the 40K Lordcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: There, you're going to find old versions of the show that we've converted with imagery and subtitles, our quarterly live Q&A sessions and our other shows, the history of 40K with Brad and I discussed the history of the 40K on the table top and two old men in their handler, which is probably coming out by time this one released, Brad had to pick up with not turning one as microphone.
[SPEAKER_02]: Technology is hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just I was just so thrilled.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was finally you not me who did that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we should additionally.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those are traditionally John's screw-ups.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, yes, I'm not alone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you have any?
[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
[SPEAKER_02]: I did it to tell.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you haven't gone to our page, good or a page, at least to watch our second Q&A, which starts off with John and I,
[SPEAKER_01]: That's our third, that's our third, we did it two times.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the third one still couldn't figure it out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where we don't know where live, it we're trying to say about how we can go live and what we should do.
[SPEAKER_02]: And while the whole time, we're live.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's totally worth watching.
[SPEAKER_02]: You least have part.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's quite entertaining.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not the best at this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of, if you want to help us out, we do have a Patreon link in the notes we can do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a lot of you have contributed already.
[SPEAKER_01]: It really is massive.
[SPEAKER_01]: The patrons allow us to hire an audio engineer to balance our stuff out, get some better microphones, also invest in some more technology for pushing more content out and doing more.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why we have more shows is because the patrons allowing us to really be able to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, big thank you to all of you.
[SPEAKER_01]: The way our Patreon works is we have one tier and if you sign up for it, you get the show and the show history of 40k, add free and add free.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's only $4.99 a american, or if you need diplomatic immunity, it's 86.14 South African RAND.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't get that reference, I'm sorry, it will be was okay, but it's still good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or more likely you're just like, that's a great movie, actually it's a great movie.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I mean, they said he said a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so the first lethal weapons really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the one with Chris rock is a third one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's probably their best lethal weapon.
[SPEAKER_02]: Four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Before that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That was with gently.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, gently.
[SPEAKER_01]: When that's the best one.
[SPEAKER_01]: you're high.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is, sir.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the best one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, in addition, we're talking about South African Rand, I would also point out some of the best scuba diving in the world.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm a very avid scuba diver.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got more my world, which is proyea day, or banks, where you have hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, whites, and more.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you can really see some cool stuff, but maybe you don't like swimming with things with teeth.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then you can go up to the sodwana.
[SPEAKER_01]: which is a really beautiful nature preserve on the land with lots of natural wildlife monkeys, et cetera, or the coral reef that's right there, we're going to get, you know, your normal things or turtles, your lionfish, mantas.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you've never seen by the way, a mantah in real life, they are an oddly big and fast creature.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen them super big.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I've seen them in Australia, I've seen them in Fiji, I've seen them in Fiji, I've seen them in a thing of salmon Philippines.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are matt terrifying underwater.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's how big they are and they can turn on a dime.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, and they've got a face on their underside.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I actually had, I was in Fiji and actually we were doing a dive where you jump into the current, the current takes you backwards and then they swim through the current because a bunch of curl in there and they eat and want them to sland into my back and I'll be honest, it was a surprise, I didn't, wasn't really quite ready for, because it slanded in my back and I had to go under it and so I felt like I was being attacked by a giant,
[SPEAKER_01]: and I was fine, but I am afterwards thinking that would have been the dumbest way to die.
[SPEAKER_01]: Of all the scuba diving I've done, because I've done the cage-free chum-to-water, but it waits.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, I've done tons of shark-dives and all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: I really glad I can take it out by a man-to-ray.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, in addition, we do have a discord, we always pump our discord because our discord's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're probably close to 11,000 the time of this releasing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's an incredible place for people looking to interact around 40k.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, this shows a big piece of it, but even beyond the show, you can see lots of you becoming in there for painting advice.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have a painting classes that are part of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Coming in different tabletop advice, TTS, really all the different elements of the game and it's designed to be a really positive community, especially inviting for those of you who've never really interacted with the community very much.
[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't want something where there was a gatekeeper is like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come in, you want to learn more about 40k.
[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome, a bunch of people here who'd love to tell you more.
[SPEAKER_01]: But with all that,
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's jump into the bedab or by doing a little bit of chat about what a space marine chapter really is.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're they're not all created the same.
[SPEAKER_02]: They all don't adhere to the imperial creed the same if at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there we go.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know how the more you hear about the Imperium, the more you think it sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, except the lords of Tara, done.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Brad, they're fictional.
[SPEAKER_01]: No reason they get upset and have them to throw off your heart again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Am I gonna let that go?
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Should I be concerned about the fact that too cast ago, you went to attack a cardio during the cast and kept going, good, probably.
[SPEAKER_01]: It might just gonna make fun of you for it instead of actually helping.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I would like to say that the show doubts having the reference to the Lord Zeterra didn't make me angry, but it did.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it always.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So fake guys piss me off.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the people who do not exist have never existed either.
[SPEAKER_01]: Completely fictional.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to fight them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just to sneak in and take my tea.
[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody taste my tea.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll fight her.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to brand some stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: That the room isn't here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to see Pat machine.
[SPEAKER_01]: So she can't get to your teeth.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, anyway, but with the imperium between the lords of terror, planetary governors, ecclesiastical leaders and more, the imperies basically cannibalizing itself at numerous times.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so one of them get in trouble, who do they call?
[SPEAKER_01]: Of demons, it's the silver ghost busters, but otherwise it's the space marutes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, but there's a hitch there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And often when the imperium calls to a space marines to bail them out, they don't actually even support them or appreciate them.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, hey, you.
[SPEAKER_01]: deal with this, and then space marines, because they're stochos, and they get it done, but no one really appreciates them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as we said before, in addition to that, the lords of terror in the space marines don't have a great relationship.
[SPEAKER_02]: Great relationship would be the understatement of the century, since they've murdered the lords of terror multiple times, also the lords of
[SPEAKER_02]: No one talks more smack to the space Marines after they've just done something for them than the lords of Terra.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're always mad about something.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like they're trying to negum.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of how it feels like it all times.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a weird relationship.
[SPEAKER_01]: You said that they killed them at least three times.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they also put the head of the assassins in charge of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's also that one.
[SPEAKER_01]: That one could go great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're in kind of what I would call a texting only relationship where they have to talk to each other, but they really don't want to.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's one of those.
[SPEAKER_01]: And as a result, the space marine chapters often find themselves is doing their own thing in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the rest of the Imperium just accepts that, because after all, they are space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're not only are they super soldiers, but they're also super intelligent.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the viewpoint of most people is that whatever they're doing, it's probably good for the Imperium, and they know what they're doing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just stay out of their way.
[SPEAKER_01]: But today, we're going to talk about what if they're not?
[SPEAKER_01]: What if the space screens are actually not up to good?
[SPEAKER_01]: And...
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so before we get there, there's a key thing about space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Space marines will often find themselves deployed in engagements with other chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a kind of a side effect of the Codex of Stardes, is that managers are just too small to handle anything above a small engagement solo.
[SPEAKER_01]: So a lot of times, you'll have multiple chapters reporting to the same event.
[SPEAKER_01]: And over time, these chapters will actually form a bond.
[SPEAKER_01]: with each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the key things to talk about when you talk about Marines being deployed with each other is this is a lot of times the same chapters they get deployed because they're in the same space, they operate in the same spaces but also they become the
[SPEAKER_02]: the bond between these chapters becomes very, very strong and you get a lot of these chapters that are just more than brothers to these other because they've been working so so much together.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've been saving each other's lives.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're guarding each other's back.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got just a powerful bond between these and then there's others that are not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and this bond is the love that you said there because this bond is really is everything.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a galaxy full of corruption.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you really can only just trust your gut and your own eyes, although tech and with each there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I see, can't even trust that because he's the master of deception.
[SPEAKER_01]: But most of the chapters have numerous such royalties to other chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: In effect, during the Space Marines, kind of to Europe and the 11th and 12th centuries, because you've got not like Norman's second Constantinople level, but like everyone's kind of marry into each other till you get to a point because that's surely they mean wherever they need to do itself.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's how suddenly Space Marine royalties are, but they do have and it doesn't matter.
[SPEAKER_01]: So long as everyone is loyal,
[SPEAKER_01]: get to that in a bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But the more important piece here is what happens when you've got all these loyalties and all these alliances and a conflict occurs.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in effect, you get the war of the roses, which is what I do believe the badab war when the GW writers were making it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're basing it off that, except instead of the house of York being upset about being denied their claim to the throne, it's them just slaughtering each other because it's chaos anyway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also
[SPEAKER_01]: on that and a spoiler that the two doors defeated the york's the york's but that was was that a spoiler.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't know if people have read this that it's 500 years ago, but you know, everyone's got their everyone's got their reading list.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to judge someone's reading list so they haven't gotten around to my Jesus man.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've had time.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I should always spoiler the alert just in case, you know, hey, maybe someone we might have a listener who is just about to get into, well, what is the war of the roses?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just ruined it for them, you know, you know, you know, sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to say that, I'm just going to say that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, all right, but let's open up a classic GW.
[SPEAKER_01]: all the records of the baddab war are under an edict of obliteration.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there are no records at all of this conflict exists.
[SPEAKER_01]: At least not outside the inquisition, just face marines, just because I've fought in it.
[SPEAKER_01]: All the local worlds in the sector, the lords of terror, a few others who are just passing through and wrote it down, other than that, no records at all of this era.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're like 14 documentaries, two feature films.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It comes at a free newsletter to your house, but outside of that, no way to know about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like collector, collector, collector, or collector, or a bedamp plates?
[SPEAKER_01]: So the mailstrom zone sits within the ultimate segment, which is near the galactic core, actually interesting, because we just, we know in Votan a short while ago, it's not very far from segment and solar, that's important.
[SPEAKER_01]: because this area has been a problem for a long time for the imperial, dating back to the Great Crusade, the forces of the imperial, they've been trying to purge this thing of the Ennisomeran kind, and every time they thought they did it, the region would fall back into war and revolt.
[SPEAKER_01]: One such era is around five, five, seven of them, 41.
[SPEAKER_01]: The high world of, ooh, signaxe, we're going to a signaxe.
[SPEAKER_01]: Signaxe is this high key militarized high world.
[SPEAKER_02]: The key where the key we're being militarized because again, you have a banana's population because it's a high world.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a manufacturing hub, and it was a... Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a disastrous world.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was taxed with making weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty major world.
[SPEAKER_01]: It falls in the civil war because you have death cultists, which are group of people who just felt the only way
[SPEAKER_01]: to serve the emperor as the die for the emperor, but also take a lot of you go with us.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of, yeah, the elephant, the elder, the fallen of the elder.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the best way to describe these groups.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this whole civil war breaks up and the mantis warrior chapter of the space marines goes to put the rebellion down.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the problem is that during this period of time, the death cultists also had then because of what they were doing, actual cultists came in,
[SPEAKER_01]: and the death cultists get access the orbital weaponry and then just exterminate us them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They take the orbital weaponry and they spin the wheel down so the angle's going instead of out into space, hey that looks real flat on its trajectory, yeah we're shooting it ourselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they blow up their own planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a big deal because the lords of terror have now lost one of the most important worlds out in this sector at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's that they declare the mail is from zone, we're not putting up with this crap anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be actively patrolled by space marines and they place multiple chapters in the region,
[SPEAKER_01]: no longer just to react for issues, but to actually hunt down and deal with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Similarly, we see with a death watch, actually.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the same set up with death watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to put a fortress out there, and if you see as you know, kill as you know, but also look for the Zenos.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's remove this situation.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then originally, it's a huge success.
[SPEAKER_01]: The space marine chapters out there, they're able to snuff out conflicts before they get big.
[SPEAKER_01]: The flow of resources starts to kind of explode coming out of the region going back.
[SPEAKER_01]: And yay, lords of terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: We did a good job.
[SPEAKER_01]: But as with all things, because, I think 40K sucks, once the region was producing, then the region didn't need help anymore, because that's how the imperial works.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it then, maelstrom becomes a forgotten thing that we're no longer reinforcing looking into.
[SPEAKER_01]: Around 600, so maybe like around 50 years after that moment, of M41, the astro clause or sent out to patrol the area, the region for problems.
[SPEAKER_01]: Astroclos are interesting one.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know who they owe their lineage to.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's rumored to be ultramarines, but also dark angels.
[SPEAKER_01]: I personally don't think their dark angels is just because the way they act.
[SPEAKER_01]: Although I know that I say that and what's going to happen to them, I guess we introduced it to the fallen if they were a successor dark angel chapter that actually was made up of entirely fallen, but they were the fallen who didn't know they were fallen.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, who knows, but whatever, all I know is around they've got a founding of a run 35 of run M 35 and they've served the M period with loyalty ever since then until about 15 minutes of the story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Around 640, so 40 years into this, a conflict breaks out all over the sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Xenos, we got chaos, normal rebellion, everywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not centralized.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just everywhere in constant.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the astro clause go in to meet this full board.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they run into a problem pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it says more of a problem thing, a lot of us know in modern era.
[SPEAKER_01]: The old joke, what's the reward for a job well done?
[SPEAKER_01]: More work.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't even think that does it just as though because they, they get more work.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they would have actually been okay with just more work.
[SPEAKER_02]: They get significantly more work, but they get the resources pulled from them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They get more work with less support.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, all right, here's some more work and also we fired five people in your job.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Effectively, the astro claws just keep doing a good job and the high lords of terror decide, all right, well, they got this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And while the beginning, the astro claws had a full fleet around them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, of, it's all regular human.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a pair of navy, a pair of guard, all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Tyler is there to say, oh, well, you guys keep winning.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we gave you too much stuff because that's, that makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they put it all the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the Astrocos are looking around going.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just us now.
[SPEAKER_01]: This sucks.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so now as a result, the attrition begins to kick in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Around this same time, the astro clause chapter master falls in combat against the works and they were promote a new guy whose last name I can pronounce
[SPEAKER_01]: First name's going to be a fun one.
[SPEAKER_01]: L-U-F-G-T, Lufth, Lufth, Lufth, Lufth, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure one's the last name.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say, yeah, let's hear it, let's hear it, I'm like, all right, but continue.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, we're just going here on for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure on decides that his astral claws cannot afford any more protracted battle and he begins a campaign
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just have you weapon deployment just blowing up planets in effect every plants fleets space stations, just absolute powerhouse hitting anything and everything that comes in the place viewing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I'd rather rebuild it later than lose irreplaceable soldiers now and one of the key worlds that comes up though is out there is the planet buddob that we're whatever goes into real revolt.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just regular humans, though, with nothing more than a planetary defense force.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the asteroid clause just decide, all right, this one we won't blow up, we'll go down here personally.
[SPEAKER_01]: A hero on himself kills the period of government.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the misguided imperial governor along with all the nobility and anyone that he is decided wasn't pro-imperium enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what happens, that is, here on this kind of, at this stage of story, he's expressed his, he just pissed off.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's pissed off at humanity.
[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't trust him.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's screwed this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ruling this planet.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he and the astro clause take control of the planet, which, by the way, is something space marines are allowed to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is not against any rules that's just, well, it's against the guidelines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is how this would fall into.
[SPEAKER_01]: He drops that on them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he looks around and says,
[SPEAKER_01]: the other planets in the area, they're kind of up at E2.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes and invades all the other planets in the sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, kills all the imperial governors and all the nobility.
[SPEAKER_01]: And takes control of the entire sector.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a reason he was the tyrant of the dab.
[SPEAKER_02]: But also, the ironic on this, because this chapter originally was put together to guard against Kiaz and Kira Shets.
[SPEAKER_01]: which is just so, and like I mentioned there, what I like about it is that he's doing all this and the lords of terror like, yeah, awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have no notes because the resources kicked up.
[SPEAKER_01]: He starts referring to himself as the tyrant of Badad.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's not a title given to him from others.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is Blood Draw Cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: All over.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say both of his nicknames are
[SPEAKER_02]: personally given to him.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's the pirate of a dad and he also calls himself he oron black art.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's not until later.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not as yeah much later again.
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, because the time of the dad and everyone goes, yeah, I see no red flag.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, what did you name yourself?
[SPEAKER_02]: The tyrant.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but dad, that's where I am.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't look it up, by the way, just to compare other space marine titles.
[SPEAKER_01]: You also have the flesh terrors, that's a space marine chapter, the dictators, but my personal favorite, the terror tigers, which just sounds, I don't know who, who thought that name up, but that one just sounds adorable, yeah, we're the terror tigers, I just, my brain
[SPEAKER_01]: or that like kiss or it's the guy and kiss or that he's really, he just died didn't it?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
[SPEAKER_01]: they're not very talented.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, initially, everything's a great success.
[SPEAKER_01]: All these key worlds, the astro claws are able to just basically self-reunforce, they're able to use all the resources there, turning these worlds into recruiting worlds for themselves, manufacturing homes for military needs, and they're go back on the offensive again in the sector, hunting down Zenos, pirates, chaos, etc.
[SPEAKER_01]: the enemies of mankind within the male stream, basically hit the back foot and here on goes, all right, this is our chance.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna go cleanse the male stream zone and he petitions for a declaration of a crusade, this will do the system.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's asked for multiple space marine chapters along with obviously pure navy and pure of forces all that stuff and the lords of tarigo No, you got this yourself.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why would we give you any more resources?
[SPEAKER_01]: You're doing such a good job How that it and yeah, did go over super well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he didn't care for that because he had that piece of so I get no resources.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, here on is furious, and it decides to take matters new as own hands, which is when things begin to take a turn for the negative.
[SPEAKER_01]: So...
[SPEAKER_01]: On 748 of M41, you're on decides the Podob sector that he and his chapter are running, we're going to subdue the maelstrom, with or without the Imperium support.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, but he but that is without, because that wasn't the Imperium, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they already said down.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go into some really important things about this though.
[SPEAKER_02]: This sector is wildly wealthy and well populated and they have all of the resources you need to wage a galactic war here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a great point because the thing is that the way the imperium is built up, we've touched this a few times.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you've got a flow of good going across the entirety, but it's, they goal is to have it not do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what you see is like MacGreg's the best example of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can have sectors that are effectively completely self-sufficient.
[SPEAKER_01]: They send some stuff out to help people out, but they themselves are totally self-sufficient.
[SPEAKER_01]: This sector is one of them.
[SPEAKER_01]: where they have all the resources they could need to feed the populists, arm themselves, raise troops, everything.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're going to go to spot the population, production, food, they're, he's ready to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, however, the one key thing is all the worlds throughout the entirety of the Imperium do have to send a sediment of resources
[SPEAKER_01]: That is, unless you're a spaceman.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a goofy little thing that is important.
[SPEAKER_01]: Under Imperial laws, there's a sub-paragraph summer within the rules that gives the rights of the spaceman commanders in a war zone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Technically, space marines have the right to suspend the imperial time, so as to support themselves and thus the imperium in conflict, which in this idea makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: The space marines are fighting in a sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: Why would I send goods all the back of charity manufacturers and all the back to me?
[SPEAKER_01]: That'll take two decades to get here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I need them right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're allowed, they can effectively just requisition local manufacturers showing to meet their needs.
[SPEAKER_01]: And like most of the rules, the requirements for doing this are not very clear or robust.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure on knows this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he just goes, okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: And here on the true reason is he's furious with the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's been a stratum for denying his request for more resources.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he goes, all right, screw them.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to assist me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not assisting them back.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a big a bad guy on this, but talking about bad guys being right.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not wrong at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, so he does.
[SPEAKER_01]: He suspends all type payments in the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he does this again, not because he's trying to build the Scrooge McDuck pool that jump into and swim their resources.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a, he really does spend the well.
[SPEAKER_01]: He uses a type money to build fortifications all around the past.
[SPEAKER_02]: The rest of the Imperium's going to find out, suit it off, that he did a great job of fortifying the Badaeb sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he builds what becomes known as the Ring of Steel, which is a ring of satellites and defenses all over the sector, making the sector on a sailor.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my, it's not that you've just, you made it small, like there was this little space station with a gun.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's floating space stations of doom all in the place, like things have real when we did our, one of our original cast talking about the siege of Terra going through the soul system.
[SPEAKER_02]: in the beta-absorption.
[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
[SPEAKER_01]: But he's not done, aside from seizing the imperial tides going out, he also shuts down all trade coming in and out of the system.
[SPEAKER_01]: So only trade happens inside the system.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because this region was very, very wealthy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so a lot of other regions relied on the goods from his region to go support them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now his viewpoint was, those regions aren't helping me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cause a lot of those regions by the way are outside at Meilstrom.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he also cut them off.
[SPEAKER_01]: This way, he had even more resources to deploy and grow his military and do this stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And remember, the sectors doing well at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Rebellions are down and when issues that arise, they're quick to put down.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, the imparers say he's given a quick to figure out this.
[SPEAKER_02]: The people that really wanted to trade with other sectors do stuff were very wealthy men and corporations that are doing stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's just murdering them anytime
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now I have an, I have an opposing opinion, stab, but let's talk about one group in where this thing starts to fall apart.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this group called the Carthago trade lords and Carthago is a system outside at Meals from right outside of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: and we covered during our fleets of the Imperium cast, merchant fleets are the overwhelming majority of all spacecraft.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's as you expect it would be, and these merchant fleets are run by these incredibly powerful families that hold warrants of trade and for a set part of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the way these families get wealthy is they get a percentage of all the trade that goes on through their fleets.
[SPEAKER_01]: and therein lies the problem here, because if a world or system or sector over which the fleet holds a warrant of trade stops producing, the merchant fleet itself loses the income.
[SPEAKER_01]: and which happens a lot, obviously, as regions get destroyed, you have worry of all this stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: But if that happens enough, the family can't move their warrant of trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they just become poor and destitute.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're not big fans of trade being turned off because they can't get it elsewhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Kathago trade lords had the imperial tie that was coming through the budob sector was theirs to collect.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even more interesting is that the way imperial tides work is you don't pay your imperial tides directly to the imperial as opposed to like the black ships.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't you give them your psychers those are back to the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: The imperial tides that are actually collected by these trade groups.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so what happens is you think about it this way, if I'm maintaining all the trade for a sector, then the imperial tells me this is how much money I had to give the imperial.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, basically, so if all of a sudden I don't get trade, I still have to give the same amount of money back.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds like I'm mob-failing as if you're talking about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the Steven Goodfellus, like 100% I don't know what this is.
[SPEAKER_02]: I really don't care what's happening.
[SPEAKER_02]: You still owe me money.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when the Bidob sector halted all trade and imperial ties, the administrative was not looking at Huron to pay it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were looking at the cathagos.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's not ideal for them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the Kathagot trade lords have to figure out what they're going to do next.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they are at this stage, one of the wealthiest trading groups in the entire galaxy due to what they've had.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're watching their coffers begin to diminish because this trade isn't happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: now.
[SPEAKER_01]: This gets a little bit ugly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, hold on though, back it up though, because they originally thought this is a great idea, because they are making money hand over fist.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is very true.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is very true.
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, initially you did have this great deal because her on comes in there and all the trade goes up in the sector because all the conflict goes down so they make me
[SPEAKER_01]: and then it went the opposite direction, now they're making almost no money.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so their governor, Satrap Tannick Coneyg, Freaks App.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she has a problem though.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's a trade group.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have a militia.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a fleet.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's for pirates and worker rebellions.
[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe some planetary governors.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a space marine chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's telling her no, we're not giving you your money.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's also a space marine chapter plus because they've been increasing check all boxes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything has.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's left with asking politely, and she did that, and here on didn't respond politely.
[SPEAKER_01]: So she begins petitioning the Adeptance Minister out of them to get involved, and they ignore.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because their viewpoint is, this is a local issue.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cathagotrade lords have to figure this out, and if you can't, we'll put someone in there who can.
[SPEAKER_01]: So basically, cover the loss.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go away.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there is one other piece of the imperial tie that we have never spoken about before.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry about that, guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: within the entire space Marines have to provide a small portion of their gene seed back to the mechanical.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is done to both create supply and in my opinion, keep an eye on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, like you had the, let's know, the emperors children had a fiasco where a bunch of their gene seed was lost because trays installed it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you had an incident in the war of the beast where the imperial fists stopped existing, just simply put it, they all died.
[SPEAKER_01]: they were remade with a combination of successor chapters, but every imperial fist died.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that.
[SPEAKER_01]: In order to combat this, the mechanic can store in large amounts you can see from all the chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: This way should a chapter reach near extinction, they could combat fatigue, they could actually be revived, and then the addition is how the Primera's project worked.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to show up with, oh hey, I've got a bunch of
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, my theory is also, I think the mechanic comes watching the GNC and make your little hundred thousand percent.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't the real case behind this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this way they can see what's going on.
[SPEAKER_01]: So why are we talking about this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here on also cut that off.
[SPEAKER_01]: He stopped sending that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is really important for what's going to happen, the real reason why we'll reveal action or next cast, but well before here on, which I'm really hoping is pronounced here on that haran, but okay, is anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: But well before he stops providing the imperial tie, he cuts off the genes he'd supply.
[SPEAKER_01]: And initially, this is fine and unexpected.
[SPEAKER_01]: The astroclos are heavily engaged in combat, but they have recruiting roads that they're local to.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they really can't afford to send GNC back to Mars because they need to use it to bring up new recruits because they're in an active war zone.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the mechanic, I'm originally just going to say, all right, well, whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: And after like 50 years, I've got a single GNC shipment, and the mannequins start going like, hey, what's going on here?
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Richard, jump around a little bit here.
[SPEAKER_01]: While the mechanic and the Gatagra trade lords are complaining and whining, the astro claws are genuinely very busy fighting the enemies of mankind.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are kicking a lot of fast to the speed on us.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, hard, cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's getting crossed.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are the bad guys, but they become the bad guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why we're not there yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're still the good guys at this point, because it's, yeah, I'm just saying that they are.
[SPEAKER_02]: they're wrecking shop at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and not just also even in their own sector, so from 775 to 780 of M41, it gets me called a four quadrant rebellion.
[SPEAKER_01]: This stretches into not solo itself, but the solar segmentum solar and spreads obviously out to Mealstrom, which is all for no one knows the reason, but dozens could even be a hundred worlds going to rebellion.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's all throughout planetary governors turn their back on the impairing
[SPEAKER_01]: obviously over time you get some chaos calls popping up and this these simple like rebellions it just it's these little brush fires all over the place all have to be put out and turn into really put a lot of them trying to pre-serious conflicts they'll have and they're all happening at the same time
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: The astroclos are one of the chapters that responds to this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when they do so, because they're leaving maelstrom behind us to work inside maelstrom, they make a bunch of friends with some other chapters, because they ask us are a very good fighting force, very, very, very good.
[SPEAKER_01]: As the quadrant war begins to add, nail stream itself, then catches fire again.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have an orc-wise, the first one that comes to the clause put it down.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well,
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was a good move.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then you get a bunch of other problems, a bunch of Zeno's incursions, some chaos things.
[SPEAKER_01]: But this time, because Mealsham's getting so up aty, and partly because of what the clause did during the quadrant rebellion, the Black Templar show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Black Templars look around and see all the devastation throughout Melstrom and say, yep, it's Crusade time.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they decide to go on what's called a Crusade of Wrath.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, a Crusade of Wrath is important.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because a Crusade of Wrath isn't a Crusade of Conquest.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's no, oh, we're going to conquer these worlds for the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, this is a you wrong, me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go punching your dead.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they have it.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is, we're smoke showing any.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want everybody to raise their hand.
[SPEAKER_02]: They was talking shit because we're killing all of those.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: All of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is really important what happens next.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the Black Templars arrive obviously and they call in for support.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the support comes the sense of the lamenters who are a blood angel successor, the mantis warriors, a white scar successor, both join in.
[SPEAKER_01]: And within a couple of years, 23 worlds are purged of you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Xenos and heretics.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sheuron is on cloud nine because it's working on cleansing.
[SPEAKER_02]: What he was trying to do with the first place.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now he's got support.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, while this is occurring though, actually, before this could, you had the first tyrannic word go on, but now we're seeing Tyrann's popping.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're also now getting pretty far into the Necrone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Two world awakening tower doing their thing, stuff's getting ugly in the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so the lords of terror reached out in the black ten plars and say, yeah, you guys have had your fun in maelstrom.
[SPEAKER_01]: I need you to come home now.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they just go, okay, and they leave.
[SPEAKER_01]: and all of a sudden here on the left looking around and everyone's gone.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's what I got.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was starting to come out of there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're a team who's saying to you on the start.
[SPEAKER_02]: But well, it's also talk.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not only that the template is just lost.
[SPEAKER_02]: They left a huge amount of imperial support.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Navy's support things, everything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So at this stage, his dream is over.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the whole thing here.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's made some allies.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's made some friends, but not enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: And without a full support of the Imperium, you're not going to pull off a crusade in the Mailstrom sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what's written is that he kind of goes back and just enters a solitude, either just not speaking any wonders staring off into the distance for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of the sport mode, he'd been corrupted by chaos.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happened at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know this yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to know this for a till next cast, but at this stage, you've been corrupted.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one knows how.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one knows why.
[SPEAKER_02]: What do you mean, do I know why?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because of the fact that we pushed him to chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of those ones where, yes, is either bad guy 100%, could this have been stopped?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, he was perfectly loyal for a long time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but let's get to our flash point now.
[SPEAKER_01]: So while all this is going on, the Adeptis Mechanicus and the Carthargan trade lords had been effectively suing the astral claws back in court on terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: The best way to explain it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And finally, the Imperium just goes here and gives them a rit, allowing them to go and collect their tithe.
[SPEAKER_01]: The problem they have is that they're about to go to a space marine chapter and tell them to comply against their will so you don't do that solo.
[SPEAKER_01]: They enter the sector with a tithe fleet, mechanical ships, and three imperial cruisers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love this part of the story.
[SPEAKER_01]: They arrive on the edge and radioing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, positive this though.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's set up who you're about to talk to.
[SPEAKER_02]: You just have a guy that's not only just being correct by classes, because he said this complete in total crisis of faith on being let down
[SPEAKER_02]: the honor of the period we're trying to do with the thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's just had that break and then this happens.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then the tax man shows up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, anyway, they arrive on the edge of the fleet and notify their intentions.
[SPEAKER_01]: And here on, tells them to hold at the edge of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think it was hold like, hey, hold on, we'll be right there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was more of a go away.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in response, the tide fleet decides to go and take their money by going full speed towards Badeb.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fun story on that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, short while ago when we mentioned how here on had built the ring of steel, driving yourself headfirst into said ring of steel didn't go well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every single ship that's straight instantly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, what directed?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anybody got the memo that they had upgraded security.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think probably could see it this more, that's why I find that fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're probably looking at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: The part that's really funny to me is here on's next move is actually a really clever.
[SPEAKER_01]: He sends a note to administrative demanding an apology from them and they're going to
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: He wanted them to apologize for him blowing up all their ships because as he says they arrived, we told him the hold, they took up a offensive position and moved towards us aggressively so we had no choice but to kill them, which is in effect the South Park, they're coming right for us, defense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say the Carthagians felt differently about what had occurred
[SPEAKER_01]: What helps here on out though is this is right about the time the whole galaxy is turning to a dumpster fire.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's threats all over the place that tyrannid I'm working on high multiple high fleets.
[SPEAKER_02]: Necrons are awakening.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're just getting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's feeling really getting ugly.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so with all these real threats, this thing gets labeled as a just trade group complaining about getting stiff on a bill by space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the overall view point of the imperium is, I can make more trade lords.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to make more space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: How about you guys just settle this amongst yourselves?
[SPEAKER_01]: Go away.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Carthagans decided to take that message instead of taking the hint of, hey man, shut up and let this one go, they go, no, I've got a much better idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't, these guys are such scrubs.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's talk about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Firstly, try to invade twice.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that went super great.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you consider big first.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would say it's a first row of knockout, but I actually think they got hit on the way to the ring.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was just saying, no, they tripped walking towards the ring and did the a million dollar baby on the way down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's how this actually went.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.
[SPEAKER_01]: So then they move into phase two, which is just talking shit behind their backs.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're being a propaganda campaign against the astro-clos just complaining about them
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, things are getting worse for them, though, as a result of this, because during this era, they find themselves under assault.
[SPEAKER_01]: The cartagans find themselves under assault from pirates.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's just this massive pirate fleet all over the place, bothering the hell at them.
[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, here on Blames said pirate fleet on the missing ships that were sent to attack him, which the cartagans obviously knew.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's not what happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, much like Europe, this is now, we're now basically in the Bedab sector, it's Europe 1914.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got AstroClause and two other space marine chapters are just sitting within Melstrom, because the Black Templars did much of, they all left.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, it's now the Lamenters and the Mantis Warriors are having the same problem the AstroClause are, which is, hey, we have no support and we're causally under assault.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they also feel as abandoned by the
[SPEAKER_01]: And as the claws are engaging with the, if they can trade lords in these like little shadow war, Huron approaches the lamenters and the mantis warriors.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he says them look as I've had enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: If the Imperium's not gonna support us in our fight, why should we support that?
[SPEAKER_01]: So he draws up something that are called the articles of just succession, that which is, and this is really critical difference.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are not succeeding from the Imperium because if they did so, that would truly be heresy, they're just
[SPEAKER_01]: they're succeeding from providing an imperial time, so that they, under the justification that this way, they could prosecute the war within the mailstrom that they needed to.
[SPEAKER_01]: The lamenters.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the ultimate rules as written of a whole time.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not succeeding.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're just not going to pay you.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's OK because we're going to take the money.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not paying you.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to spend the fight of war that you would support.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're OK, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so much now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the lamenters and the mantis warriors agree with this and they both signed on.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't by the way, I don't know if this document got sent anywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: It may have been signed and shoved in a drawer.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it got sent back to hell.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it also, he pulls them together to just kind of go, hey, we're going to keep fighting in this area, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, all right, keep fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, it's like, all right, everyone's like,
[SPEAKER_01]: That works for me, but now we're going to get to the ugly bit, which is the outbreak of war.
[SPEAKER_01]: So in the grand campaign of complaining, the Carthagians finally found someone who would listen.
[SPEAKER_01]: They complained to every member that they could ever find, and they found, and basically all human forces were like, yeah, man, I'm not attacking space marines, but I just, that's not happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they had to find a space marine chapter, and they found one in the fireworks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I barely can't talk, but I got it exciting, because the firehots do look cool, model-wise.
[SPEAKER_01]: They look really cool, and they've got a cool story.
[SPEAKER_01]: The firehots are badass.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are extreme loyalists, but they're brought like to pretend his salamanders are the good guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: The firehots actually have a much more noble history than a lot of other space marine chapters.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are a former Ultramarine successor, which explains why they're so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Although there are questions about like they're founding because they claim to be alterations and the alterations are like, yeah, we don't have a record if you have as no idea of these guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and by the way, we're the alterments.
[SPEAKER_01]: We write stuff down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody keeps track of shit better than we keep track of shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the fire Hawks are interesting because they're a fully fleet-based chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is because in the wars against Gochvendier, where you have to hold the Ecclesiarchy with fighting each other, their home world got demolished.
[SPEAKER_01]: by then dears forces.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of the space marines at Vendier, actually, fought against.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they got moved to being a fully mobile fleet-based group.
[SPEAKER_01]: And because of this, though, because their fleet-based, they have to do a lot of trade.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the curfegans are one of the largest trade organizations in the galaxy, but especially in this sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a long history between the firehawks and the curfegans.
[SPEAKER_01]: The current after enough complaining, the fire hawks say, all right, what happened in the Carthag and tell them, well, we had these two fleets and they were over near bedop and they went missing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the fleets were too big for pirates to take them out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Can someone figure out what's going on?
[SPEAKER_01]: And the fireworks would find, we'll go see what's going on.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not, they don't think there's room.
[SPEAKER_01]: They don't think there's room.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, they didn't say we're going to fight against anybody.
[SPEAKER_02]: They said, well, fight will find the fleets.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the first thing to go to is the end of mine cluster.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're about to have our jobs.
[SPEAKER_01]: Endimian.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: The endimian cluster.
[SPEAKER_01]: Effectively, this is Gabriel O'Princeb.
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys, the road was blocked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Turned down the wrong road.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Gabriel O' is standing right there looking right at Archduke.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they warp into the system and the mantis warriors control this area and the mantis warriors say, who the hell are you?
[SPEAKER_01]: The firehawk say, the firehawks, and the men's warriors say, cool, why are you here?
[SPEAKER_01]: And the firehawk come back with, we're not saying.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you have to get the beam out and the mantis warriors took offense to that.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the mantis were to say, well, you are going to tell us now, again, no, so the mantis were to attack and they disabled their ships, they get space screens, probably can do this.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just basically shot the engines and turn the weapons systems off and then they board of the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they got all the ship and said, okay, we're here now, surrender, the fire hawks, surrendered by giving them a middle finger as they're not surrendering at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: And a giant conflict breaks out and the mantis were to kill most all the fire hawks on the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Once this is done, that's kind of a game, guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Fun, fireouts decide they're going to break the pain.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they bring their entire fleet into the sector.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they decide they're going to crush the mantis warriors and any of the rallies.
[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is, this is not a good idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is not a good idea because this is one chapter, a mobile fleet-based chapter, which we discuss with the car caratology, because they're not as well reinforced as one who has a homeworld.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can recruit from steady flows of supplies.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one against the reef.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's also an ideal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the fire hawks very quickly find themselves on the defensive and then actually being chased.
[SPEAKER_01]: The Carthagans, by the way, is point art totally useless.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were like, oh yeah, these guys got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They had a couple fleets.
[SPEAKER_01]: They got wrecked.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were just of no help.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the fire hawks put out of distress call.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now the Marines aren't another ultramarine chapter.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is how GW writing will be.
[SPEAKER_01]: If they're, oh, there's much ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be on the side of good.
[SPEAKER_01]: these guys show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's two to three, at least at first.
[SPEAKER_02]: The executioners show up 15 minutes afterwards.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's two and three in the next executioners who have a blood like alliance with the claws and executioners are an imperial fist successor, but they've got a blood relationship or what is a blood oath to the claws.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they show up.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now it's June
[SPEAKER_01]: what happened then bad things bad things so we now have a full-blown war we've got two space marine chapters fighting forest base marine chapters in an area of imperial space everyone is a loyalist by the way this is a true loyalist civil war there's no
[SPEAKER_01]: So we have a starty as on a starty's civil war.
[SPEAKER_01]: Terra has a problem now.
[SPEAKER_01]: They have to get involved.
[SPEAKER_01]: This cannot happen.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the first part of the story that they do is cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the second part is actually funny and cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the first thing is they gather a force to go put this down.
[SPEAKER_01]: They grab the red scorpions, unknown founding chapter, pretty cool history, actually.
[SPEAKER_01]: The raptors, raven guard, salamanders, obviously, and then fire angels, another ultra-traumines.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they say, all right, get out there, stop this, turn this off now, but they have a problem and this is the part two which gets funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tara cannot afford a civil war amongst space marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this entire thing needs to be covered up as the wrong word, but it needs to not be a space marine on space marines civil war.
[SPEAKER_01]: It has to be a misunderstanding and misplaced loyalties.
[SPEAKER_02]: This makes me so happy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Easy yellow outcasts.
[SPEAKER_01]: So someone has to be at fault.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know who's at fault?
[SPEAKER_02]: The Carpathian Trade Lord.
[SPEAKER_02]: Screw them.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is all their fault.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, what?
[SPEAKER_01]: It is, it is hilarious.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a guy by a curse.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is, this doesn't occur after.
[SPEAKER_01]: So while the group of space marine chapters are heading out to the Badab sector deal with it, back on Terra, they have, I don't know, a tribunal, whatever term you want to use for this, and they put the carpathons on trial and determine that they did everything wrong here.
[SPEAKER_01]: This in time,
[SPEAKER_01]: The entire thing is their fault and we're going to go solve it, but just so everyone knows it's entirely their fault and their punishment for it is the stripped of all of their trade titles.
[SPEAKER_01]: we talked about slavery in our last cast, they then sent into the largest planet to six generations of indentured servitude to the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: A planet, the whole thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the whole planet, every member of that planet is now for the next six generations and indentured servant to the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, with that, we're going to break.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's a little bit of a shorter cast day, but we're going to break because the next piece of this kind of explodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get to this pretty and earnest as this becomes a full blown civil war, namely the real reasons behind it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the return of our buddies, the car caradons, fish sharks, they have a big role to play in this one, because this is actually how they were introduced to the game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention kind of the legacy of this war has the Imperium going forward as some more changes the Imperium has to make.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a, the bit that sector's pretty cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like this, I like this conflict a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: So with that, John Barsati and Brad Chester, this guy.
[SPEAKER_01]: See you all next week.
