You have JT Real Mutil behind the plate, and Marshan behind the plate and Garrett stubbed behind the plate. Sun peeked out for a couple of minutes. It was a good day.

Finally, final like two days of camp, they put five pictures on the injured list on the DL and Calvin Maduro Young Calvin Maduro, who had been sent out like a week earlier to go pitch a triple A. They not only call him back to big league camp, they say you're going to be our number two starter.

They don't think it's anything serious, though, So that's good news when we're talking about all each other other injuries.

There's a lot of talk about running it back just across the causeway in Tampa with the Yankees, and I think these guys really do believe that they are good enough. In talking to Zach Wheeler talk to Aaron No a little bit, that they just need to kind of keep it going to the post. They're not they understand, I guess, you know, they see how they brought most everybody back running it back, but they there's a real belief I believe in that clubhouse that at least in the guys I spoke to today, that they can go out.

Speaker 3: Zach Wheeler spoke to us after the workout. Like I said, it was the first time he had talked since like last August when he had the blood clout. He had the blood clout remove hadn't talked since then, and he's thrown from ninety feet. He feels really good about his progress. He seems to under he wants to get back as quickly as possible, but he also sees no reason to rush himself back. He's like, listen, I'm not going to be ready by opening day. Why do I need to be back rush myself back to be back in the first week or the first week and a half. So he's going to listen to the phillies, trainers, the doctors and continue to kind of move check certain boxes as he goes, and then finally come back.

You know, as an athlete, you're always optimistic you're going to come back and return to prior for him, but he's really optimistic that the way he feels, the way he's throwing the ball, the way he's kind of recovered so far, that he is going to bounce back and be the pitcher that he once was. And if that actually happens, that is obviously a huge development for the Phillies.

But I want to get your guys opinion on this because it's been this has been obviously a lot of hot takes coming on about Nick Castianos.

Speaker 3: Are you guys offended that the Phillies have not let Nick walk by this point and just released him and given him an opportunity to hook up with another team, because I will tell you this, I don't. I am not offended by it. I think the Phillies have to do what they have to do. Nick is going to get paid. He's getting one hundred million dollars from the Phillies. If he gets released last week, or if he gets released on Friday at five o'clock, he's gonna have plenty of time to get ready for spring training. He's gonna have plenty of time to get settled in. The Phillies owe it to themselves as an organization to try to get what they can for Nick Castios. If they think there's a trade there. Obviously they think there's a trade there. They're not just holding on to them just to hold on to them. They're trying to get a deal for him. So take all the time you need.

Speaker 6: I agree, I agree they have to think of what's best for the team. But I do think if you start getting to this weekend, it's time. But I'm not offended. I don't think it's been an embarrassing situation that for them, that they've hung on to them this long. They're trying to do something that's good for the team, trying to make something work, and you know, because of the slow developing or the lingering free agency that may have affected the possibility of a trade. If they think they have one percent a chance to make it trade, you know, take it right down to the end. But I think by this weekend, uh, it's time to as Jonathan paple Wan once said, tinkle or get off the pot.

They're not giving me a chance to if they're going to release me, they're not giving me a chance to you know, find a place for me to go play. Well, I think you guys are both right the right thing to do for the organization. They've already paid him, they've already guaranteed him the money. He's going to get his money. They have to do what's right for the for themselves and and uh and see if they can, you know, somehow get a deal done for him.

I mean, you know, the Phillies tried to trade him at least each of the past two off seasons, and they found no interest in him at all. So, like the whole world already knew that the Phillies were going to try to trade Nick Castios, and they certainly knew it once they acquired a Doley Scarcia.

Like, do you guys disagree with that, because that's a that's a big thing, right. It's like, well, the Phillies just screwed themselves because they they said, oh, he's not coming back. He's not coming back, and so that totally tanked his trade value.

Speaker 5: I think the teams know what he is. I think they know who he is. I think they know what kind of production they can get out of them. I do think that they in some ways they painted themselves in a little bit of a corner by not being a little bit more koy. But you know, Dave Dobrowski, he's honest. He's honest about what he said about Harper. Who's honest what he said about CASTI honest, he was like, Hey, it's just not gonna be on the team. It's just that's the deal. And you know, he can't fault the honesty, and that's that's how it's worked out there hasn't. It's been such a slow developing off season as far as free agents are concerned, especially the guys on the second, third, fourth tier, that it's taken this long because means are sort of slow to move for whatever reason, whether it's the agents that are doing it or whether it's the teams. I'm not sure. It could be a combo platter, but I really I don't think it really necessarily affects his market because the players have teams have seen him for years. He's been scouted and seen and they know what he is and who he is.

Speaker 6: And I do think teams know he's been out there for quite some time. I mean he was he was discussed widely this past trade deadline. There was some interest in Kansas City that closed up. They actually went they wanted a right handed bat, They went for left handed bat Neustremski, and the previous two off seasons no takers. Everybody knows they were interested in eating some money to make this subtraction. So I don't think it affected things that much. I think I think just it It got to the point where teams are out there knowing that, Okay, this is the time they're gonna they're gonna do something. They're gonna they're gonna subtract him from their roster. Why give up anything if we have any interest, just wait for him to be released.

Speaker 3: Rob Thompson said that, and again this isn't a surprise, but he kind of clarified it. Aiden Miller is going to play a lot of shortstop and third basis spring and maybe get a look, maybe a little taste at second base, but a lot of short a lot of third basis spring. We're kind of wondering where he might play, So that'd be fun to watch see what he can do. You know what he can do short. We know he can play shortstop, but to see him play third base ought to be pretty interesting.

Speaker 5: Well, it makes some sense. I mean, Alec Bohm is gonna be a free agent next year and that that hole needs to be filled. Bryce and Stott. He's under control for another couple of years, so I can see where Aiden Miller at some point may may shift to short just the third that makes some sense, playing playing on the left side of the field. We we had a discussion about Aiden Miller earlier about being fascinated by where he's going to be playing as he prepares in Leigh Valley this year, he's he gonna be playing third or short or second. Sounds like he's gonna be playing short and third, and that's exactly what he should be doing, I think, just to prepare himself a little bit like we did with Chase Utley. It's one point when we moved into third base in Lehigh actually Scranton back then correct skip double A, skipped double A. We put him right in and we knew he can handle it offensively. Struggled a little bit at third base for a while with his throwing, but then but then sort of straighten things out. Talked to my dad about him, said he leave them, they will be fine, leave them a second will be fine eventually, and ended up making some moves getting Polanco and then sort of moving Chase back into third so or wherever it was we got or back to second.

Speaker 6: So you guys were forecasting what was going to happen with a player moving on and Boem being in his final year of the contract. I think it's pretty easy to see him moving on. You always got to be, you know, funneling in the new guys when guys hit free agency. And that's the perfect example of how it can work. If Aight Miller is ready a year from now and looks like he might be, and I'm sure he can play third base. I have a scout friend I can't mention his name. He works for another team, and he has seen this kid since amateur ball and likes him very much as if the basement.

Speaker 3: And he basically said they approached him and his brother Austin, who was a catcher, and they had it was like, this might be our only opportunity to ever play together again. Now, interesting enough, Mariner Mariners just signed him as a bench coach.

Speaker 3: So now Austin will not be playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. But Rob and Aaron said, hey, you know, I I'm getting started a little bit earlier. He said he kind of got away from the past few years. And he goes, now, listen, I'm not gonna be throwing ninety eight.

Speaker 5: I want to make a comment. Do you want to make a comment about the long tossing. So one of the things that was really impressive about Aaron was to watch him prep for a LSU start. One of the things that he did was do a ton of long toss. It's one of the reasons why he has not had real any knock wood, any arm issues. He's had a lot of arm care and he's been really healthy with his arm. And I think one of the reasons why is he's on a very very rigorous and a very regimented long toss program. He could see him doing it before he pitched in games. I mean, it was in fact startling see how much long toss he threw before he actually got out when he was starting that day. So it's something he's been doing for a long time and I'm glad he's going back to it.
