<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Games Mornings with Me. Jeff Greb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from GiantBomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're going to be talking about weather
<v Speaker 1>or not Microsoft is giving up on Xbox hardware, and
<v Speaker 1>Ghost of Yota shows that gamers will still show up
<v Speaker 1>for a big console exclusive. It's gonna be a good
<v Speaker 1>one because we have Jason Bonelli on this show. Jason,
<v Speaker 1>how are you doing.
<v Speaker 2>Hi?
<v Speaker 3>I'm doing okay, a little feeling a little sad about
<v Speaker 3>my sports teams. We kind of let me, kind of
<v Speaker 3>let me down this weekend. But I didn't think the
<v Speaker 3>Eagles were going to go sixteen and oher, and hopefully
<v Speaker 3>that loss will be a nice plunge in the mouth Philly's.
<v Speaker 3>On the other hand, I kind of need the top
<v Speaker 3>of my order to go better than one for thirteen.
<v Speaker 3>Need a little more production out of them. But I'm
<v Speaker 3>playing a trump card tonight. My wife and my wife
<v Speaker 3>and I are undefeated when we attend games. And I
<v Speaker 3>know my wife is not watching this, so I can
<v Speaker 3>say this, we are attending tonight and she does not know.
<v Speaker 4>Oh that's fine.
<v Speaker 3>He's not gonna find out until she gets home from work.
<v Speaker 3>I have her Harper jersey over the chair. I have
<v Speaker 3>a piece of paper that says suit up with the
<v Speaker 3>ticket information. Babysitters are already taken care of there. We're
<v Speaker 3>gonna go down there and yell, I kind of wish
<v Speaker 3>I would be I'd be on the show on Wednesday,
<v Speaker 3>so you can hear me like this two days later.
<v Speaker 3>But but yeah, we're gonna do that, and we're gonna
<v Speaker 3>cheer for him, and hopefully our magic will make this
<v Speaker 3>one one and we'll go back to La tied one
<v Speaker 3>to one set of down oh too, because if we
<v Speaker 3>go down oh too, it's over. Let's just sat over.
<v Speaker 3>I just stole win in Seattle. It's nice.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, we stole win.
<v Speaker 1>But you know we're not hitting either, and run our
<v Speaker 1>our I s p runners in stranding position.
<v Speaker 4>We just strand him out there. It's bad.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, And you know we won the game we weren't
<v Speaker 1>supposed to win. And then the scooble goes down and
<v Speaker 1>pitch is pretty great, but he did two homers from Polanco,
<v Speaker 1>so we lost that one, the one we were definitely
<v Speaker 1>supposed to win. So that's like, and again I only
<v Speaker 1>say we as the fandom. Everybody I know I'm not
<v Speaker 1>on the team. It's just makes want to discuss these things. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like, oh okay, so we'll see it like
<v Speaker 1>one and one back to Detroit.
<v Speaker 4>I'll take it. But but yeah, and then all right,
<v Speaker 4>let's kind of pick up here.
<v Speaker 1>We'll stitch that in uh yep uh. I want the
<v Speaker 1>Lions to just keep getting better. The phil your legals
<v Speaker 1>had to lose a game, Jason, and and and like,
<v Speaker 1>because it's like, you know, they were they're trending.
<v Speaker 4>Still in the right direction.
<v Speaker 1>You could tell that they're trying to get it together,
<v Speaker 1>lose this one and get it out of the way,
<v Speaker 1>and and then come back and like be angry about it.
<v Speaker 4>And that team is going to be something to reckon
<v Speaker 4>with the rest of this season.
<v Speaker 3>Only fear is that we have a quick turnaround. We
<v Speaker 3>have the Giants on Thursday night. Yeah, it's my only
<v Speaker 3>fear other than that. Yeah, I agree with you.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we should explain what we do here. We're
<v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb Video Game DOUFA is Independent Games Media.
<v Speaker 4>We're out here on our own.
<v Speaker 1>We wouldn't have it any other way because we have
<v Speaker 1>you at our backs supporting us by going to Giant

<v Speaker 1>enables us and empowers us to keep doing cool stuff.
<v Speaker 1>Anyone else wants to join and help us out, we
<v Speaker 1>would really appreciate that. Again, that's giant bomb dot com
<v Speaker 1>slash join to become a premium member. If any hardships
<v Speaker 1>any reasons, you guys can't do that right now, we
<v Speaker 1>get it.
<v Speaker 4>Don't do it.
<v Speaker 1>If you cannot, please just tell a friend. That also
<v Speaker 1>goes a long way. We really appreciate that as well.
<v Speaker 1>As far as this show goes, most weekdays, I Jeff
<v Speaker 1>Grub will help piece your gaming life back together.
<v Speaker 4>That includes breaking.
<v Speaker 1>News and maybe even some of our own original reporting.
<v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get the input of a
<v Speaker 1>bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If
<v Speaker 1>you are watching live on Twitch, welcome. You can always
<v Speaker 1>listen to the show later on podcast feeds by searching
<v Speaker 1>for Game mess Mornings or find the RSS feed on
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com. You can also catch the show
<v Speaker 1>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 4>Hello YouTube, All right, we have.
<v Speaker 1>A lot to get into, so let's start the morning
<v Speaker 1>mess with Xbox still swears it's not giving up on
<v Speaker 1>consoles as fan morale creators. This is from Ethan Gotch
<v Speaker 1>at Kotaku. Amid fears that unpopular game Pass price hikes
<v Speaker 1>marked the latest blow to Microsoft's console gaming ambitions, the
<v Speaker 1>tech giant claims its next gen hardware plans remain unchanged.
<v Speaker 1>The next Xbox might be more PC like than ever,
<v Speaker 1>but there will be one. We are actively investing in
<v Speaker 1>our future first party consoles and devices designed, engineered, and
<v Speaker 1>built by Xbox, the company wrote in a statement to
<v Speaker 1>Windows Central. For more details, the community can revisit our
<v Speaker 1>agreement announcement with AMD. That last part references an announcement
<v Speaker 1>Microsoft made over the summer for a multi year partnership
<v Speaker 1>to co engineer Silicon Silicon across a portfolio of devices,
<v Speaker 1>including living room consoles and PC gaming handhelds. Together with AMD,
<v Speaker 1>we're advancing the state of art and gaming Silicon to
<v Speaker 1>deliver the next generation of graphics innovation, to unlock a
<v Speaker 1>deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player
<v Speaker 1>experiences enhanced with the power of AI, all while maintaining
<v Speaker 1>compatibility with our existing library of games. Xbox president Sarah
<v Speaker 1>Bond said at the time, of course, mister Finelli, this
<v Speaker 1>all comes as this statement, separate from the AMD state statement,
<v Speaker 1>which did happen a few weeks ago, comes as a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of a surprise that Microsoft felt compelled to
<v Speaker 1>do this. But things were getting rough out there in
<v Speaker 1>terms of that fan morale and sort of the analysis,
<v Speaker 1>and a lot of people who kind of know what
<v Speaker 1>they're talking about were like, yeah, it sounds shakier than
<v Speaker 1>ever about Microsoft coming back and doing another round of
<v Speaker 1>consoles and all. That's because that those price increases did happen,
<v Speaker 1>and it was very easy I think for a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people to believe when they heard the rumor. I
<v Speaker 1>think it started on Reset. I think it started on
<v Speaker 1>neogaff actually, and then I think Tom Warren on a
<v Speaker 1>podcast sort of re iterated, yeah, maybe there's something to
<v Speaker 1>that that Xbox was pulling back on whatever plans they
<v Speaker 1>had for next gen hardware under the Xbox label. Obviously,
<v Speaker 1>you know, you know, if they were if they have
<v Speaker 1>this deal with AMD, that could take many forms.
<v Speaker 4>But I do think part of the story here is
<v Speaker 4>it was very easy for people to.
<v Speaker 1>Believe that because everything Xbox is doing screams, God, we're
<v Speaker 1>just gonna keep We're gonna sell Call of Duty and
<v Speaker 1>Minecraft and everything else is an afterthought, right.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean that's basically what they that the GISTs
<v Speaker 3>that we're getting, and then you know, the game passed
<v Speaker 3>fiasco on top of it. You can understand why morale
<v Speaker 3>is in the toilet at the moment. And as somebody
<v Speaker 3>points out in chat, the fact that they had to
<v Speaker 3>come out and say this, just say hey, we're still
<v Speaker 3>doing this, don't worry, is itself a red flag? I
<v Speaker 3>am not. It's so weird. It's so weird if you
<v Speaker 3>think even you know, endemic times, how confident I was
<v Speaker 3>in Xbox at the time. Yeah, Series X was coming out.
<v Speaker 3>They started that one showcase had a lot of first
<v Speaker 3>person sorry first party games, some of which still aren't
<v Speaker 3>out looking at you, Fable, and now it's like, like
<v Speaker 3>you said, Call of Duty, Minecraft, maybe the occasional other
<v Speaker 3>big ticket game as it comes up, and then the
<v Speaker 3>rest of it, Hey, whatever happens happens. Right, It's so
<v Speaker 3>strange that this everything's in Xbox game pass strategy has
<v Speaker 3>now turned into your most ardent supporters not knowing if
<v Speaker 3>they're going to have a console next generation, and even
<v Speaker 3>if they are, what that looks like. Are you going
<v Speaker 3>to try for a switch situation where the thing come
<v Speaker 3>off the dock and it's all in the handheld, like
<v Speaker 3>maybe just make a base for a rag ally? Is
<v Speaker 3>that what you're going to do? Or is it going
<v Speaker 3>to be like a new Xbox like we've been used
<v Speaker 3>to since you started making the first ones in two
<v Speaker 3>thousand and two thousand and one. It's just a weird
<v Speaker 3>time to be an Xbox fan. It's super weird. I mean,
<v Speaker 3>it's it's weird to be a fan of PlayStation two
<v Speaker 3>in a way, just because you don't know where their
<v Speaker 3>first party games are. They're slowly starting to come out
<v Speaker 3>a little bit. We'll talk about the next big the
<v Speaker 3>most recent big one in our next story. Nintendo fans
<v Speaker 3>they know what they're getting that they just kind of
<v Speaker 3>deal with it at this point. But Xbox they're in
<v Speaker 3>this weird limbo. It's weird, like, what do you have
<v Speaker 3>for me besides these two money makers that you had
<v Speaker 3>to purchase to bring into your portfolio. You didn't make Minecraft,
<v Speaker 3>you bought mo Yang, it didn't make Call of duty
<v Speaker 3>you bought Activision, is that we have to expect now
<v Speaker 3>you're just gonna buy your hits and put them under
<v Speaker 3>your portfolio, or you're gonna start giving us the franchises
<v Speaker 3>that we know we like from you, your your rare games,
<v Speaker 3>your your your Halo. Where the hell's Halo? I mentioned
<v Speaker 3>fable earlier, like what's what's going on here? Now? They
<v Speaker 3>did say Halo next from Halo Studios as being in
<v Speaker 3>a June. I do remember that, so maybe there's a
<v Speaker 3>light in the tunnel there. But other than that, like
<v Speaker 3>and the cop Co thing, which I didn't have a
<v Speaker 3>chance to talk to you about yet, but when Costco
<v Speaker 3>drops your console, that's not nothing. People might people might
<v Speaker 3>not see Costco as ubiquitous as like and Albertson's or
<v Speaker 3>act Me depending on where you live, or like a
<v Speaker 3>wal Mart or something like that, but it's still a
<v Speaker 3>pretty big chain and for them to no longer carry
<v Speaker 3>your consoles for reasons that still haven't really been explained,
<v Speaker 3>have they.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, we even't got an exact statement of why
<v Speaker 1>this happened, although it happened around the second price increase.
<v Speaker 1>So I think Costco is like this thing already wasn't selling.
<v Speaker 1>This has now crossed a line on our spreadsheet. It's
<v Speaker 1>like this is not worth carrying anymore. That would be
<v Speaker 1>my guess. Could be something else, but I think it's
<v Speaker 1>all related to the price increases.
<v Speaker 3>To adapt a famous saying, something's rotten in Redmond, and
<v Speaker 3>they haven't and they know. They either know and aren't
<v Speaker 3>saying it, or don't know because they haven't figured it
<v Speaker 3>out yet. Something is up at Xbox, and I hope
<v Speaker 3>they can figure it out what whatever that is.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Part of the you know, the rumor that kicked this
<v Speaker 1>off was also claims that you know, Microsoft is going
<v Speaker 1>to be doubling down on their most profitable, most successful franchises,
<v Speaker 1>and none of that's being refuted. I think, you know,
<v Speaker 1>not that they necessarily would, but I also I just
<v Speaker 1>think they won't because it's almost certainly true that they
<v Speaker 1>are going to focus less on anything that feels out
<v Speaker 1>there like a risk. It's just going to be the
<v Speaker 1>stuff that has been a reliable money maker, the forts
<v Speaker 1>of Horizons and above like Forts Horizon, Call Duty, Minecraft,
<v Speaker 1>Candy Crush, a handful of other things, and then you know,
<v Speaker 1>anything beyond that, it's going to be very hard for
<v Speaker 1>it to get the green light, and if it has
<v Speaker 1>got the green light, and if it's not like near completion, like.
<v Speaker 4>Let's say a fable, if it has.
<v Speaker 1>Any sort of troubled development, they'll just cancel it, like
<v Speaker 1>a perfect dark And it's like, you know, whether or
<v Speaker 1>not there's a next gen Xbox, and again, you touched
<v Speaker 1>on this a little bit, we'll talk about it here
<v Speaker 1>in a second, like.
<v Speaker 4>What does that actually look like?
<v Speaker 1>Regardless of that, it's like, yeah, this is still a shifting,
<v Speaker 1>changing Microsoft. And if they are putting out games that
<v Speaker 1>you still like, great, it's just obvious that this is
<v Speaker 1>not the company that might have felt like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>I know, it's weird, it's Microsoft, but it felt like
<v Speaker 1>they were the scrappy, Hey, we're going to come in
<v Speaker 1>here and try some new stuff, a little bit of
<v Speaker 1>an underdog in the video game space that they were
<v Speaker 1>maybe when they were doing the Xbox One and starting
<v Speaker 1>up game Pass, and that felt like, Okay, this is interesting,
<v Speaker 1>it's at least different and worth talking about, and we're
<v Speaker 1>paying attention to all that's over with now now this
<v Speaker 1>next gen Xbox that they are or you know, the
<v Speaker 1>next gen chip set that they're working on with AMD
<v Speaker 1>that could easily end up just being a reference model
<v Speaker 1>that could be like, hey, we're going to make something
<v Speaker 1>similar to like our Microsoft Surface but for Xbox, and
<v Speaker 1>this is one type of thing, and then we're going
<v Speaker 1>to work with a SUS and a bunch of other
<v Speaker 1>third parties and they're going to put out, you know,
<v Speaker 1>this PC console experience with an OS that we do develop.
<v Speaker 4>That is our focus.
<v Speaker 1>That is what the Xbox is now, is this OS
<v Speaker 1>that goes on to all this other hardware, whether that's
<v Speaker 1>a handheld or PC from a SUS or a PC
<v Speaker 1>from Xbox, whatever it is. It's like, yeah, that shift
<v Speaker 1>might have already been started. So it's like, yeah, we're
<v Speaker 1>gonna do that because that is the shifting strategy to
<v Speaker 1>deal with all these problems that we've already encountered here.
<v Speaker 1>And I get we're still gonna to see how that
<v Speaker 1>goes in terms of delivering, Like does that still deliver
<v Speaker 1>a compelling gaming experience that feels self contained and gives
<v Speaker 1>the console.
<v Speaker 4>People what they want?
<v Speaker 1>You know, I guess even if it doesn't, it's not
<v Speaker 1>like people will feel like they're getting that out of
<v Speaker 1>the Xbox right now, you know.
<v Speaker 4>I think playing games on an Xbox is just fine.
<v Speaker 1>But people buy these systems for a bunch of reasons,
<v Speaker 1>usually because their friends are playing there and exclusives, and
<v Speaker 1>who's going to be the asshole in their friend group
<v Speaker 1>that tries to talk talk to their friends and get
<v Speaker 1>into getting an Xbox Like it's like, who knows what
<v Speaker 1>the future of that really is? And then all those
<v Speaker 1>games are available in other places and Microsoft doesn't. Again,
<v Speaker 1>that's not like Microsoft bean, oh no, you're buyer games
<v Speaker 1>on PC. They're happy with that. But I don't think
<v Speaker 1>any of this is leading to something that I enjoy
<v Speaker 1>from gaming, which is big companies spending a lot of
<v Speaker 1>money to make a lot of cool games. That feels
<v Speaker 1>like I'm not going to be getting that out oft Xbox.
<v Speaker 1>So I continue to be like, oh this stinks.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, thank god for indies, right if indies are where
<v Speaker 3>you're getting the cool games that you used to get
<v Speaker 3>from the from the Triple A's. And part of the
<v Speaker 3>appeal of consoles to begin with is they allow for
<v Speaker 3>a comparable I'm not going to say it's the same,
<v Speaker 3>because PCs are always more powerful, a comparable experience in
<v Speaker 3>a standalone device strictly for gaming. With these price hikes,
<v Speaker 3>you don't have that anymore, so pivoting into more of
<v Speaker 3>a PC environment with their own windows OS. I see
<v Speaker 3>why they're doing it, but it's not going to go
<v Speaker 3>well for the layman who only wants to buy an
<v Speaker 3>Xbox for his Madden's Call of Duties and his Minecraft
<v Speaker 3>or not Minecraft. But you know the seasonal games that
<v Speaker 3>they always play. It's not I don't. Maybe there's something
<v Speaker 3>that being counters know that I don't. I just I
<v Speaker 3>don't see it. I don't see this strategy panning out
<v Speaker 3>the way they want it to. I don't know that
<v Speaker 3>the handheld PC is going to go the way they
<v Speaker 3>want it to. Strictly on sticker Shock alone nine ninety
<v Speaker 3>nine for the X the more powerful of the two
<v Speaker 3>is tough. Five point fifty is better but still not great.
<v Speaker 3>That would make it the cheapest Xbox product right The
<v Speaker 3>handheld rog ally non X or whatever it's whatever the
<v Speaker 3>name is, is now cheaper than a than a Series S,
<v Speaker 3>and cheaper than a Series X. That's your access point.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, how much of the Series S right now?
<v Speaker 3>Is it? It's it's comparable. If not, yeah, it's I
<v Speaker 3>think I think it's right around that five point fifty.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it started three hundred, so god, what it like? Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>I have to double check, but yeah, you're right, it's
<v Speaker 4>comparative for sure.
<v Speaker 3>Like yeah, I just I don't I don't see it.
<v Speaker 3>I don't.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I mean it is.
<v Speaker 1>It is worth pointing out every time we have this conversation.
<v Speaker 4>Uh sure that that what is it? Sorry?
<v Speaker 3>Four nine?
<v Speaker 1>Okay, okay, Uh, It's worth pointing out every time we
<v Speaker 1>have this conversation that you know that there are macroeconomic
<v Speaker 1>reasons that these prices keep going up from a company
<v Speaker 1>like Microsoft. So tariffs are real, and they are about
<v Speaker 1>to get worse.
<v Speaker 4>They are about to get worse. Now here.
<v Speaker 1>Here's my frustration, Jason, is that we come on this
<v Speaker 1>show and I've explained that for months when it was
<v Speaker 1>first happening, I was explaining it like every week, kind
<v Speaker 1>of getting people at the speed of like, here's what
<v Speaker 1>you need to understand this. I'm someone who generally very
<v Speaker 1>much dislikes tariffs because once we get them, they don't
<v Speaker 1>go away, and they're they're they're they're stupid, they're bad,
<v Speaker 1>they're they're just straight up bad. For the most part.
<v Speaker 1>They are they're very specific times very targeted tariffs makes
<v Speaker 1>some sense. Uh, but if you know, I'm given the
<v Speaker 1>option of using tariffs to protect, say the electric vehicle
<v Speaker 1>industry in the United States, versus subsidizing that industry, I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna go with subsidizing.
<v Speaker 4>Let's just flood money in the zone and see what
<v Speaker 4>we can do. That's me.
<v Speaker 1>I get frustrated that, Okay, tariffs are the reason you
<v Speaker 1>do are doing this.
<v Speaker 4>Say that. Why won't they say it?
<v Speaker 1>Why do I have to come on this show and
<v Speaker 1>like help pull people by the hand and like like hey, everyone, look,
<v Speaker 1>yeahs tariffs mapp Why won't Phil Spencer go out and
<v Speaker 1>say it's because of tariffs because they're cowards, because they
<v Speaker 1>don't want to get targeted by this government.
<v Speaker 4>And I'm done with it. This sucks.
<v Speaker 1>You have the money and the power and the platform
<v Speaker 1>to do something about this, to to stand up a
<v Speaker 1>little bit. We're all gonna have to pay for it,
<v Speaker 1>and you won't say it. You won't even come out
<v Speaker 1>and just gesture toward it. You say macroeconomic, you don't
<v Speaker 1>ever point the finger at the thing that we all
<v Speaker 1>do agree is the likeliest reason that this is happening.
<v Speaker 4>I'm sick of these cowards.
<v Speaker 1>I'm sick of these rich people getting to sit over
<v Speaker 1>here and be like, well, let's look at the map.
<v Speaker 1>We could just charge more, get more from our customers,
<v Speaker 1>and then we once these tariffs go away, we'll just
<v Speaker 1>keep the prices here and then we get the windfall.
<v Speaker 1>Fucking cowards. It's yea driving me insane.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And you know, so I'm done with a lot of
<v Speaker 1>these people. And if they can't just come into this
<v Speaker 1>battle and say what's going on and we get it.
<v Speaker 1>You don't want to lose your government contracts, you don't
<v Speaker 1>want to lose your military contracts, you don't want to
<v Speaker 1>get blocked from mergers and acquisitions. Okay, you're a coward. Fine,
<v Speaker 1>Like I get what's happening here. So yeah, yeah, tariffs whatever. Really,
<v Speaker 1>the problem is, at some point someone's gonna have to
<v Speaker 1>stand up and do something. Obviously it's not going to
<v Speaker 1>be the rich people, but it should be because they
<v Speaker 1>have the power to at least do something.
<v Speaker 4>We're gonna keep it in it up here. Otherwise.
<v Speaker 3>I would just like to point out that now I
<v Speaker 3>know how you feel when roadblocks comes up. Sorry to Scott,
<v Speaker 3>I am affecting you in a positive way, I think.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, some good to hear that get your goddamn inspiration
<v Speaker 1>is what I think Ghost to yot crushes at retail
<v Speaker 1>in the United Kingdom. This is from Chris String on Twitter,
<v Speaker 1>who does a good job of keeping track of this.
<v Speaker 1>There's a group kind of like Sircana slash MPD in
<v Speaker 1>North America and the United States, I should say that
<v Speaker 1>does this for just retail in the UK, and he
<v Speaker 1>does a good job of like getting in there and
<v Speaker 1>finding the numbers that matter. He points out that the
<v Speaker 1>UK box launch for Ghost of Yota is really really good.
<v Speaker 1>It is number one, which means it beat the second
<v Speaker 1>week of EA Sports Football Club twenty six, which is
<v Speaker 1>on its own very impressive, and it sold almost three
<v Speaker 1>times what Mario Galaxy one and two did on the Switch.
<v Speaker 1>Of course, I think most people are going to get
<v Speaker 1>the digital version of Super Mario Galaxy two there because
<v Speaker 1>they probably already have one because that was in Super
<v Speaker 1>Mario three D All Stars. But whatever, regardless, it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>okay Yota, which I was like trying to place it.
<v Speaker 1>I was trying to like put my finger on it,
<v Speaker 1>but like, what what is the excitement level for this?
<v Speaker 1>What is the enthusiasm. You know, there's a chance that
<v Speaker 1>like this game could come and go. It felt like
<v Speaker 1>it's like, no, no, people have been waiting for exactly
<v Speaker 1>this kind of game on their PlayStation five, which every
<v Speaker 1>time it came up, it was like, of course this
<v Speaker 1>game is going to do well. People bought a console,
<v Speaker 1>bought an expensive console to play exactly a game like this. Well,
<v Speaker 1>that's right, And I think that's a good sign that
<v Speaker 1>a game like this can come out and just completely
<v Speaker 1>do like hit a slam dunk in terms of getting
<v Speaker 1>people to come out and.
<v Speaker 4>Show up for it.
<v Speaker 1>And it sounds like to me, what this really is, Jason,
<v Speaker 1>is a lot of normies, a lot of people who
<v Speaker 1>are just like come to gaming for a big, fun,
<v Speaker 1>cinematic experience. They're showing up for this one, which should
<v Speaker 1>be Sony's wheelhouse, and it seems like it is. I
<v Speaker 1>think these are this is a good early sign for Yota.
<v Speaker 1>What do you think.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's a great early sign. I think Ghost
<v Speaker 3>of Sushima had more fans that even you or I
<v Speaker 3>would have given it credit for. I mean, it was
<v Speaker 3>a big hit, but don't get me wrong, but to
<v Speaker 3>beat EA sports f see in the UK is not nothing.
<v Speaker 3>That is a huge, huge deal. I'm not surprised about
<v Speaker 3>Mario Galaxy one and two just because of what you said.
<v Speaker 3>Half for that package they probably already have. But I
<v Speaker 3>am a couple hours into Yote. I'm actually reviewing it
<v Speaker 3>for Restart, so I am a little late to the game.
<v Speaker 3>I didn't get my code to launch day, so I
<v Speaker 3>have dug in a little bit and I can see why,
<v Speaker 3>just in those couple of hours, why this game is
<v Speaker 3>so successful. It's the sort of, like you said, single
<v Speaker 3>player cinematic adventure, right in line with like how God
<v Speaker 3>of War does its thing now and have the Last
<v Speaker 3>Divisitated's thing over. It's aaughty dog. This is PlayStation's wheelhouse,
<v Speaker 3>and Sucker Punch has already proved they can do the
<v Speaker 3>Samurai epic with the first game, and it sounds like
<v Speaker 3>they're just doing it again with a different perspective and
<v Speaker 3>a different sort of theme in this one. And I
<v Speaker 3>am here for it so far, glad to hear that
<v Speaker 3>it does have that success. Maybe it could convince PlayStation
<v Speaker 3>that they should just stick to what they know and
<v Speaker 3>get all this live service shit out of the pipeline.
<v Speaker 4>And just certainly worked. I mean didn't.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm not saying to completely, you know, abandon lives.
<v Speaker 3>If you think you have a really good idea, stick
<v Speaker 3>with it that maybe one or two, not twelve twelve exactly.
<v Speaker 4>That's it. Right.
<v Speaker 1>Like back when this initiative of the live service games
<v Speaker 1>got announced, it was don't worry people who are fans
<v Speaker 1>of games like Ghosts of Sushima the amount of money
<v Speaker 1>we're investing in those kinds of games.
<v Speaker 4>It's going to stay steady.
<v Speaker 1>We're not dropping that investment to invest in these live
<v Speaker 1>service games. We're just taking this money over here and
<v Speaker 1>put it in. It's like, okay, yeah, but I think
<v Speaker 1>the criticism at the time from people who were really
<v Speaker 1>plugged in was you should be investing more in these
<v Speaker 1>first party, single player, big cinematic narrative games that PlayStation's
<v Speaker 1>very good at.
<v Speaker 4>And we get that that's difficult.
<v Speaker 1>Starting up a studio that can do something like something
<v Speaker 1>like that very difficult.
<v Speaker 4>You can't just pull a naughty Dog out of thin air.
<v Speaker 1>We get that, But there were like studios inside of Sony.
<v Speaker 4>That were like support studios.
<v Speaker 1>We're like, hey, maybe we could grow up to be
<v Speaker 1>one of these teams that like helps out within charted
<v Speaker 1>since Naughty Doug's not really doing that anymore, and Sony's like, man,
<v Speaker 1>we're not going to do that, We're going to live
<v Speaker 1>service stuff. And it's I think you're right that maybe
<v Speaker 1>the lesson here should have been learned that let's invest
<v Speaker 1>even more in these kinds of games, even if we
<v Speaker 1>are still going to take maybe half of that money
<v Speaker 1>and put it in a couple of live service things
<v Speaker 1>as a bet here and there, instead of just making
<v Speaker 1>it the entire strategy.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, but like another question, you could even do it
<v Speaker 3>from a remake remaster perspective. What's Bluepoint doing right now?
<v Speaker 3>Good point, what is Bluepoint doing right now? Or making
<v Speaker 3>a live service game that got canceled right? That's yeah,
<v Speaker 3>but their teeth on remakes. Yeah, the Demon Soul's remake
<v Speaker 3>that launched with this console was one of the considered
<v Speaker 3>one of the better launch titles for this console. Why
<v Speaker 3>would you take them off of that and try to
<v Speaker 3>just chase this cash cow that doesn't exist? It does?
<v Speaker 3>It makes no sense to me. You have an entire
<v Speaker 3>library of older titles that have not been around in
<v Speaker 3>a while well that you could easily resurrect for this
<v Speaker 3>current console. Let me put one out there for you.
<v Speaker 3>I'm pretty sure this is under Sony Studios. I could
<v Speaker 3>be wrong. Correct me in the chat if I am.
<v Speaker 3>I think we are well ripe for a remake of
<v Speaker 3>Legend of Dragoon. What do you think?
<v Speaker 4>Sure, yeah, you think that makes sense.
<v Speaker 3>I think that would be great. The way you Final
<v Speaker 3>Fantasy seven is getting its remake, you put Blue Point,
<v Speaker 3>or you put one of those studios on a Legend
<v Speaker 3>of Dragrooon remake and let people relive that masterpiece.
<v Speaker 4>Let's go.
<v Speaker 3>I don't understand this. It will never make any sense
<v Speaker 3>to me why. I mean, I get why they want
<v Speaker 3>the live service games. Don't get me wrong, it's easy money.
<v Speaker 3>But if you can't make the game, stop trying and
<v Speaker 3>go with what you know. It's that simple to me.
<v Speaker 3>But what do I know? I just come with this
<v Speaker 3>show and bitch at you for a couple hours. I
<v Speaker 3>don't make these games. I'm not a bean counter. I
<v Speaker 3>keep saying that. That's my phrase of the day. Apparently,
<v Speaker 3>I just like medieval Sir Dan Fordescu needs some attention.
<v Speaker 3>Give us, Sir Dan, where is he?
<v Speaker 2>It?
<v Speaker 3>Just I don't know. It seems so simple when you
<v Speaker 3>say it out loud. I just don't I don't understand
<v Speaker 3>why they haven't pivoted already. I mean, maybe they have
<v Speaker 3>with the cancelations they've already done. Maybe they're they've gone
<v Speaker 3>back to the drawing board, and they're gonna start looking
<v Speaker 3>at more single player uh cinematic games, and maybe some
<v Speaker 3>multiplayer games that aren't live service, if that's even possible now,
<v Speaker 3>because I'm not saying completely, you know, toss multiplayer side on.
<v Speaker 3>My multiplayer is still very popular, but it's a different
<v Speaker 3>kind of popular. You're not gonna get a Fortnite anymore
<v Speaker 3>in this day and age. You're not gonna get a
<v Speaker 3>pubg in this day and age. You're gonna have to
<v Speaker 3>it's gonna have to be a companion mode to a
<v Speaker 3>single player game. And this is a bad example because
<v Speaker 3>it's older. But like, remember how much people loved the
<v Speaker 3>multiplayer of Assassin's Creek Brotherhood. Sure, yeah, you remember that
<v Speaker 3>likes something in that strategy. It's a companion mode that
<v Speaker 3>plays with the mechanics of the game and allows people
<v Speaker 3>to play against one another. Fox Hunt in the Middle
<v Speaker 3>Gear Solid remake comes to mind as a recent example.
<v Speaker 3>There you go, It's it just seems obvious to me
<v Speaker 3>that that's where so many strength is. But they continue
<v Speaker 3>to chase this golden goose out there in some horizon
<v Speaker 3>that they see and we don't. And until they stop it,
<v Speaker 3>things like this are going to come as a surprise
<v Speaker 3>to them when they shouldn't.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I uh, you know, you said there can't be
<v Speaker 1>another Fortnight, and I definitely agree with that. I'll mention
<v Speaker 1>and I said this maybe.
<v Speaker 4>On Friday show.
<v Speaker 1>I've heard a little bit that maybe Fortnite's numbers aren't
<v Speaker 1>what they once were, and it's like, let me, I guess,
<v Speaker 1>let me just ask you, do you think.
<v Speaker 3>That, I'll tell you. I'll tell you what Power Rangers
<v Speaker 3>and K Pop Demon Hunters stuff, fuck they're not.
<v Speaker 1>They always read that, Yeah, this was before K Pop
<v Speaker 1>Demon Hunters for sure, but also like that that was
<v Speaker 1>the point of like Power Rangers, Like someone brought that
<v Speaker 1>up when when I was talking to them about this,
<v Speaker 1>that stuff like that that is appealing to older millennials
<v Speaker 1>that have a little bit more money than younger people.
<v Speaker 1>Like that's the strategy right now. K Pop Demon Hunters
<v Speaker 1>globally appealing for sure.
<v Speaker 3>This this past season of Fortnite has been I swear
<v Speaker 3>to God as at Epic or whoever it is that's
<v Speaker 3>monitoring my socials on Epic Games. At Epic Games, this
<v Speaker 3>season has felt targeted to me. You started with Power Rangers,
<v Speaker 3>and then you added Gorillas in the in the music past,
<v Speaker 3>and then have you done the Daft punk experience in I've.
<v Speaker 4>Not, but I've heard great things about it.
<v Speaker 3>Jesus Christ. Even if you if you're a Daft punk fan,
<v Speaker 3>it is the the the project of a lifetime.
<v Speaker 4>The amount of.
<v Speaker 3>The amount of Easter eggs and bullshit that they pack
<v Speaker 3>into this thing is out of this world. They put
<v Speaker 3>their own fuser in there, all of their music and
<v Speaker 3>you could just fuse, Oh my god, it's fantastic. And
<v Speaker 3>then Kate pop deaner Demon Hunters comes in while I
<v Speaker 3>want my nostalgia hit and says, hey, your kids are in.
<v Speaker 4>It too, bang enjoy it. So here we are that every.
<v Speaker 3>Day for a week. Uh that that Demon rush with them.
<v Speaker 3>I've I've done a solo run already. I was requested Roomy.
<v Speaker 3>I'm a mirror fan myself, but I was requested to
<v Speaker 3>play as Roomy and that means a lot of fun.
<v Speaker 3>I really do it. I do like it.
<v Speaker 1>My kids were playing one of the fan made games
<v Speaker 1>k Pop Demon Hunter, Tycoon or something like that, where
<v Speaker 1>it's just like, I think it's mostly an idle game.
<v Speaker 1>They they were punching a box that was like spreading
<v Speaker 1>out money for like ten minutes straight when I was
<v Speaker 1>looking at the TV. So that was, oh, all right,
<v Speaker 1>let's go click on that cookie. But okay, okay, My
<v Speaker 1>question was gonna be, hey, if if like, let's yeah,
<v Speaker 1>obviously Fortnite right now hitting it again with K Pop
<v Speaker 1>Demon Hunters, but if money was down up until this point,
<v Speaker 1>do you think that is a Fortnite problem or a
<v Speaker 1>video game show people showing up for live service games problem.
<v Speaker 3>I think it might be a Fortnite fatigue problem, and
<v Speaker 3>they just found a way to fix it. They this
<v Speaker 3>and again going back to this past season, Yes, they
<v Speaker 3>added Power Rangers, but they also incorporated the Power Rangers
<v Speaker 3>in a season that basically aped Hell Divers. A bunch
<v Speaker 3>of bugs are showed up. Kill the bugs. You're the
<v Speaker 3>oxr You're not the Hell Divers, so they so you
<v Speaker 3>you just play Hell Divers in Fortnite, And then they
<v Speaker 3>put the Megasord in there where the Megasord would actually
<v Speaker 3>form in the sky and you could pilot it and
<v Speaker 3>shop and then just stomp your opponents as the Megasord
<v Speaker 3>and then yeah, so so I think it was just
<v Speaker 3>a little bit of Fortnite fatigue. I think a couple
<v Speaker 3>of seasons weren't that great, and then this one just
<v Speaker 3>came in and knocked this all out, and now a
<v Speaker 3>bunch of people are playing again. I'd love to see
<v Speaker 3>their numbers. Now. I don't know. It may it may
<v Speaker 3>be a more general live service fatigue as a whole,
<v Speaker 3>but I would have to see numbers for like and
<v Speaker 3>not even just standalone live service games like your pubg's
<v Speaker 3>and stuff like that. I'd have to see the numbers
<v Speaker 3>for like Mutt right Mad and Ultimate Team or or
<v Speaker 3>games that incorporate live service into the other game.
<v Speaker 1>A FC just had a problem last quarter, like he
<v Speaker 1>was reported on that. It's like that was having issues
<v Speaker 1>and they're.
<v Speaker 3>Like so and you know what, and you know what, man,
<v Speaker 3>It could just be everything's getting more expensive. You have
<v Speaker 3>to cut where you cut, and you cut the subscription
<v Speaker 3>to Fortnite true, or you cut how much you spend
<v Speaker 3>on your foot packs, your football Ultimate Team packs because
<v Speaker 3>you got to put food on your table all goes
<v Speaker 3>back to that thing you were just ranting about earlier.
<v Speaker 3>Maybe it's just becoming they have to make the choices now,
<v Speaker 3>and only the people with a disposable income that seem
<v Speaker 3>to be the ones that are catered to in this
<v Speaker 3>particular moment where all the spending's going. Thank you Matt
<v Speaker 3>Piscatella and yourself for that blue sky thread and the layman.
<v Speaker 3>The people who were just playing to have fun can't
<v Speaker 3>afford it, so they're not spending on it. That's it, yep.
<v Speaker 4>I think so.
<v Speaker 1>Obviously it's an example of people just not having as
<v Speaker 1>much money, and the strategy of appealing to people with
<v Speaker 1>money can only go so far because you know, there
<v Speaker 1>are everyone's trying to appeal to them, so their money's
<v Speaker 1>being split up as well.
<v Speaker 4>All right, we should take a break. We'll be right back.
<v Speaker 1>If you want to skip out on these there's a
<v Speaker 1>premium version of the audio show. There's a premium version
<v Speaker 1>of the video show. You get that bay going a
<v Speaker 1>Giant bomb dot com slash join, become a premium member,
<v Speaker 1>skip the ad.
<v Speaker 4>You're not gonna want to skip this one though. We'll
<v Speaker 4>be right back.
<v Speaker 2>Grub. I love podcasts and I would like to listen
<v Speaker 2>to more of them.
<v Speaker 1>Oh boy, I've got the podcast for you than bud
<v Speaker 1>Stage Select a grub.
<v Speaker 2>I have trust issues, especially with podcasters.
<v Speaker 1>Look, it's always important to be careful and safe about podcasters.
<v Speaker 4>But don't worry.
<v Speaker 1>Host Julian Titus and Justin Hamm have over sixteen years
<v Speaker 1>a combined podcasting experience, and the Stage Select is finishing
<v Speaker 1>up its second season at the end of the year.
<v Speaker 2>Holy smokes, what a pedigree? Tell me more grub?
<v Speaker 1>Oh what about a video game variety show where the
<v Speaker 1>hosts act as if they're performing for a live studio audience.
<v Speaker 2>Kind of like The Muppet Show? Do they have reoccurring
<v Speaker 2>characters Shenanigans, bits and skits?
<v Speaker 4>A ohole, baby, we got bits? We got skits?
<v Speaker 2>I love bits and skits.
<v Speaker 4>Is there more?
<v Speaker 1>The show is designed to be unexpected jan they'll go
<v Speaker 1>to space sometimes a surprise game show.
<v Speaker 4>Expect the unexpected space grub grub.
<v Speaker 2>I'm hearing that episodes forty one and fifty nine are
<v Speaker 2>fantastic points to get a vibe of the show. Julian
<v Speaker 2>and Justin are fiercely independent and do this for the
<v Speaker 2>love of video games and podcasts.
<v Speaker 3>Oh yeah.
<v Speaker 1>They draw from the best, like the Giant BombCast, next Lander,
<v Speaker 1>Rebel FM, and no one can know about this.
<v Speaker 2>Well, Grub, I'm glad I know about this podcast.
<v Speaker 4>That's Stage Select.
<v Speaker 2>Give it a listen, bits and skits.
<v Speaker 5>Hello, there just caught me here cleaning my balls. You
<v Speaker 5>know you gotta be mean and tidy when it's golf Week.
<v Speaker 5>That's right, it's golf Week on Giant Bomb and you
<v Speaker 5>can look just as good as Merchmaster Mitch with your
<v Speaker 5>very own Giant Bomb golf shirt and Giant Bomb golf hat.
<v Speaker 5>Golf Week it's not just for us, it's four you
<v Speaker 5>star dot Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 4>What are you waiting for?
<v Speaker 5>Golf Week only comes when we decide it does randomly?
<v Speaker 5>Excuse me, I got it really clean these balls?
<v Speaker 4>S game Best Mornings. We're back. I'm Jeff Grubb. That's
<v Speaker 4>chasing Finelle.
<v Speaker 3>How do we follow that?
<v Speaker 1>You that he like recorded that over the weekend? He
<v Speaker 1>popped in chat. We were all very excited. I guess
<v Speaker 1>you're the premium member you missed out on Mike's Golf Week.
<v Speaker 4>Ad uh store at giant bomb dot com. That's all sad.
<v Speaker 1>I know you skip one on the edge but there is,
<v Speaker 1>like you probably want to know, there's Golf Week. Merch
<v Speaker 1>up everybody. It's a lot of fun. So Mike's the
<v Speaker 1>merch maaster. But we had to do the embroidery file
<v Speaker 1>for the Golf Week thing, like the little golf ball
<v Speaker 1>bomb logo, and I like have a program that can
<v Speaker 1>do that. I don't really know what I'm doing, so
<v Speaker 1>I was like really nervous until we actually got a
<v Speaker 1>sample which is what Mike's wearing, and I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>it's gonna computer. A computer has to be told, like
<v Speaker 1>how to do every stitch for these embroideries. I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm sure I did it wrong. I'm sure it's going
<v Speaker 1>to be out of order and look wrong. And it
<v Speaker 1>came in and it looked great. Oh it's such a relief,
<v Speaker 1>and hey it's in the store now. People should go
<v Speaker 1>check this out. Oh yeah, it looks so good. Mike
<v Speaker 1>looks great and that sure he says, it's super comfortable
<v Speaker 1>the shirt material itself.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, happened.
<v Speaker 4>Man, yep, turning that butter cleaning those.
<v Speaker 3>Golf balls fall.
<v Speaker 1>Let's get back into the show, everybody, all right, Details
<v Speaker 1>emerge on Xbox is canceled Uncharted rival Project Ranger.
<v Speaker 4>This is from Andy Robinson at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>A new video has unearthed alleged details on the canceled
<v Speaker 1>Xbox exclusive Project Ranger and Uncharted style action adventure game
<v Speaker 1>once planned for Xbox One. Project Ranger is said to
<v Speaker 1>be the game famously teased via a thirty second trailer
<v Speaker 1>during Xbox is E three twenty thirteen press conference and
<v Speaker 1>never seen again.
<v Speaker 4>I don't remember that.
<v Speaker 1>At all, but it was being done by by Black
<v Speaker 1>Tusk Studio, who became the Coalition after Microsoft after this
<v Speaker 1>acquired the rights to Gears of War in totality from
<v Speaker 1>Epic and then they're like, we need a studio to
<v Speaker 1>like kind of take this over. So we're going to
<v Speaker 1>take Black Tusk and have them become the Coalition. They're
<v Speaker 1>gonna work on Gears of War and don't worry about
<v Speaker 1>that Project Grangeer game anymore. That seems to be the
<v Speaker 1>story here the game. You know, it was like in
<v Speaker 1>pre production. It wasn't very far along, but the idea was, hey,
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna do one of those. And I know there's
<v Speaker 1>like fans of Xbox who said, hey, you don't have
<v Speaker 1>to make every game like the way PlayStation makes a game,
<v Speaker 1>but we would like just one, just try one of those,
<v Speaker 1>and they never really have done that. And it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>it's because stuff like this happened. I at this point,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if like it would have made sense,
<v Speaker 1>Like making those games is hard. The reason there's a
<v Speaker 1>reason like everyone says, oh, that's a Sony PlayStation kind
<v Speaker 1>of game, because they're kind of the only ones out
<v Speaker 1>there with institutional knowledge really of how to do one
<v Speaker 1>of these in a way that's not going to get
<v Speaker 1>a seven out of ten from everybody, at least the
<v Speaker 1>first time around. And I just don't you know, especially
<v Speaker 1>at this time, Jason, it was a time when Microsoft
<v Speaker 1>was like do we even think making video games is
<v Speaker 1>worth it? Like if we're gonna make a game, we're
<v Speaker 1>gonna make a game sort of like Destiny that people
<v Speaker 1>will just play forever and ever and ever, because we
<v Speaker 1>look at the telemetry data and that's what it says
<v Speaker 1>people are doing. They're just playing one game forever. So
<v Speaker 1>why would we make anything other than one of those games?
<v Speaker 1>So I'm not surprised that we didn't get this. This
<v Speaker 1>happened more than a decade ago. I guess maybe part
<v Speaker 1>of me is like, hey, okay, when game pass was
<v Speaker 1>really taken off and you were acquiring all these studios,
<v Speaker 1>I guess maybe I'm a little surprised they didn't get
<v Speaker 1>around to like just trying one of these again. Although
<v Speaker 1>I suppose maybe Indiana Jones and the Great Circles close ish.
<v Speaker 1>It's first person, not exactly right, but it's close ish.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what do you make all this?
<v Speaker 3>Well, I think that pivoting to Gears of War makes
<v Speaker 3>a lot of sense because that was still that was
<v Speaker 3>the right Because is this judgment time or is this
<v Speaker 3>around four time? Three had come out in twenty ten,
<v Speaker 3>so I guess we're still in the judgment. Yeah, this happened.
<v Speaker 4>Probably right around four time.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, maybe, but this is also the time. You may
<v Speaker 3>recall that LucasArts canceled thirteen thirteen, and that was a
<v Speaker 3>much a much ballyhooed cancelation for an adventure style game
<v Speaker 3>just in the Star Wars universe. They might have seen
<v Speaker 3>that and been like, oh shit, if they can't make
<v Speaker 3>Star Wars work in this format, maybe we can't. Maybe
<v Speaker 3>we should do something here and if and honestly it
<v Speaker 3>worked Gears four and five, you know, depending on who
<v Speaker 3>you ask, were good enough for the coalition to take
<v Speaker 3>over them. Gears Tactics, I think is in there somewhere too,
<v Speaker 3>that the game has a lot of very, very loyal fans,
<v Speaker 3>so they got three games out of it. The pivot
<v Speaker 3>made sense. I would have liked I would like to
<v Speaker 3>see more original IP or original ideas from these companies,
<v Speaker 3>but they're just not profitable anymore. They're just all your
<v Speaker 3>original ideas are coming from INDI's. As we said earlier,
<v Speaker 3>it's just how it's going to be. Yeah, I would
<v Speaker 3>have liked to have seen a little more of this.
<v Speaker 3>I have to go back and remind myself of this
<v Speaker 3>thirty second trailer.
<v Speaker 4>And don't remember it at all.
<v Speaker 3>I don't remember it all. The only thing I remember
<v Speaker 3>from that E three twenty thirteen press conference is that's
<v Speaker 3>when Killer Instinct re emerged, and I'm a fighting game fiend,
<v Speaker 3>so seeing them again was really neat. Then that's not true.
<v Speaker 3>The PlayStation one was the one where I think they
<v Speaker 3>did how to lend your games to friends.
<v Speaker 4>It was in the room for both of those three.
<v Speaker 3>That was the only E three I missed between twenty
<v Speaker 3>ten and twenty nineteen. The day the show floor opened.
<v Speaker 3>My sister graduated high school, so I New York. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>so I watched it from home that one year. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I sure, why not it If they ever want to
<v Speaker 3>go back to it, Maybe the files are in some
<v Speaker 3>vault somewhere and they can uprise it to whatever their
<v Speaker 3>new console is going to be called the ROG series,
<v Speaker 3>ally X whatever the fuck it is. Who knows. I again,
<v Speaker 3>this just goes right back to you know, have they
<v Speaker 3>ever been the company we thought they were? Like, this
<v Speaker 3>is before even backwards compatibility got a standing ovation at
<v Speaker 3>E three, Right, that was like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen,
<v Speaker 3>I mean it still was.
<v Speaker 4>I mean this was like maybe still Don Matrick, Don Matrick.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Xbox Don Don Matrick did all the Xbox one stuff,
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, this would be the last year of Don Matric,
<v Speaker 3>or maybe more or two years of Don Matric before
<v Speaker 3>he went to Zinga. So that's the kind of company
<v Speaker 3>we're dealing with at the moment. And we thought Phil
<v Speaker 3>Spencer was going to be the steward of a new era,
<v Speaker 3>and he was for a little bit, and then all
<v Speaker 3>of a sudden, we're back where we are now. I
<v Speaker 3>don't think original ideas like this are going to come
<v Speaker 3>out ever again for Xbox, which kind of sucks. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, the coalition was working on some other non
<v Speaker 1>Gears projects here in the past few years, and then
<v Speaker 1>they canceled those because they're like, actually, no, we're just
<v Speaker 1>going We're going to go back to the next years.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, I mean, why why stop doing what you
<v Speaker 3>already know. Maybe they learned some things from those other
<v Speaker 3>canceled projects that well, they will adapt to E Day
<v Speaker 3>to make it feel a little more fresh. That would
<v Speaker 3>be great, But yeah, it's just gonna be IPS from
<v Speaker 3>here on out. I think you're never going to see
<v Speaker 3>a scale bound style project from them. Have never agend
<v Speaker 3>no macrosist.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo issues surprise denial to Japanese politicians AI claim.
<v Speaker 4>This is from Andy Robertson at VGC. Shots out to VGC.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo has denied reports that it's lobbying against the use
<v Speaker 1>of generative AI in its home country of Japan. On Saturday,
<v Speaker 1>Satoshi Asano, a politician and member of Japan's House of Representatives,
<v Speaker 1>posted on social media that Nintendo was avoiding using generative
<v Speaker 1>AI to protect its IP and also engaging in lobbying
<v Speaker 1>activities with the government. The claims sparked Nintendo into the
<v Speaker 1>unprecedented step of publishing a formal denial. Contrary to recent
<v Speaker 1>discussions on the internet, Nintendo has not had any contact
<v Speaker 1>with the Japanese government about generative AI. The company said,
<v Speaker 1>whether Generative AI is involved or not, we will continue
<v Speaker 1>to take necessary actions against infringement of our intellectual property rights.
<v Speaker 4>So maybe what they're.
<v Speaker 1>Trying to say is we did go to the government
<v Speaker 1>about IP stuff and it may be involved AI, but
<v Speaker 1>we're not trying to stop AI necessarily. I mean, Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>said that we're not using generative AI because we think
<v Speaker 1>that there's magic from the way we make games and
<v Speaker 1>stuff like that. I bet they are still investigating AI
<v Speaker 1>like processes to see if they can help them save money.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo loves to save money. But I bet they're also
<v Speaker 1>rightfully skeptical. Someone pointed out, like, I think it's Google
<v Speaker 1>Who's big thing now is AI, and they think they're
<v Speaker 1>doing the They have the Sora thing, which is the
<v Speaker 1>video creation tool that we see the stuff. It's like,
<v Speaker 1>oh yeah, I can't believe anything else see on the
<v Speaker 1>internet anymore at all. For sure, Even they who have
<v Speaker 1>this tool when they have to go do a brand
<v Speaker 1>campaign to like win hearts and minds, they pay millions
<v Speaker 1>of dollars to an ad agency, a marketing firm to
<v Speaker 1>hire real artists, than real people who really know what
<v Speaker 1>they're doing to come up with a compelling thing. They're
<v Speaker 1>not just going into Jim and I and saying, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>Jim and I, how do we get people to like
<v Speaker 1>Google more and then following that step for step. No,
<v Speaker 1>they're paying millions of dollars to experts to actually do that.
<v Speaker 1>So I bet and intend to like looks around understands
<v Speaker 1>that the people with the money who are trying to
<v Speaker 1>get you to use AI are not necessarily the ones
<v Speaker 1>also using AI themselves when it comes down when.
<v Speaker 4>The like breast hacks.
<v Speaker 1>But but they still think, we're not necessarily against this.
<v Speaker 1>We're just for us making money in the best way possible,
<v Speaker 1>And right now we still think that probably doesn't involve
<v Speaker 1>AI much. But I don't know, it's weird that they
<v Speaker 1>came out and said anything. But I guess if they
<v Speaker 1>were like, we don't want to be drawn into this,
<v Speaker 1>I guess that's probably why they said something.
<v Speaker 4>What do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it is weird for them to deny that they
<v Speaker 3>were lobbying against it. If they were, if they genuinely
<v Speaker 3>not had that conversation yet, I have to come out
<v Speaker 3>and say, hey, we have not, We're protecting our IP.
<v Speaker 3>We haven't even talked about AI yet. I don't know
<v Speaker 3>how ubiquitous generative AI is in Japan, right, It's clearly here.
<v Speaker 3>It's all over the fucking place. It's in commercials for
<v Speaker 3>Christ's sake at this point. But I don't know how
<v Speaker 3>Japan has taken to this techne yet or if they
<v Speaker 3>see it as the bullshit that it is. I do
<v Speaker 3>like it is refreshing to see the politician come out
<v Speaker 3>and retract his claim and apologize, saying he deeply regrets
<v Speaker 3>his own failure to verify the facts adequately adequately. Ain't
<v Speaker 3>that a breath of fresh air? But I I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I think when it comes to Nintendo and gender of AI,
<v Speaker 3>even if they were curious about putting it into a game,
<v Speaker 3>they have to see the backlash. Yeah, whenever anybody tries
<v Speaker 3>to use it for anything, they have to see what
<v Speaker 3>people are saying as soon as they are able to
<v Speaker 3>identify it. And they also know that the thing that
<v Speaker 3>keeps the lights on in Nintendo is the image of
<v Speaker 3>their characters. Maybe not the company themselves, but the image
<v Speaker 3>of their characters. And if you start infecting Mario and
<v Speaker 3>Zelda and Starfox, well whatever, I mean, make anything starify
<v Speaker 3>at this point, But if you start infecting the these
<v Speaker 3>love loved much love characters, long love characters with generative
<v Speaker 3>AI that people can see through, that will be an
<v Speaker 3>absolute non starter. It will be a pr nightmare. And
<v Speaker 3>I think they're smart enough to realize that. So at
<v Speaker 3>this point their strategy is seems just to be ignoring it,
<v Speaker 3>which sure that's what we should all. It'll just go away.
<v Speaker 3>I can't say I disagree with it.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think that, Uh, Nintendo's probably just right.
<v Speaker 1>Well, there's so specific in particular about their characters and
<v Speaker 1>stuff like that, everything has to be like directly on model,
<v Speaker 1>and they just wouldn't want to, like regenerative AI to
<v Speaker 1>show up in one of their games. And right now
<v Speaker 1>they'd be like, well, if we could just telecomputer, what
<v Speaker 1>to do? Whereas how does that make it Nintendo special?
<v Speaker 1>And I think they really do take that seriously. It's
<v Speaker 1>been there, you know, their mantra for a long time now.
<v Speaker 1>And whether or not that they've fully delivered on that
<v Speaker 1>with every game. Sure that could be debated, but I
<v Speaker 1>believe that they think that's important. We'll see how that
<v Speaker 1>like shakes out long term. You know, if it could
<v Speaker 1>save them money and it doesn't get in the way
<v Speaker 1>or doesn't like, doesn't have a backlash associated with it,
<v Speaker 1>they can kind of do some stuff in the background.
<v Speaker 1>They'll do it, but maybe we're not there yet. Road
<v Speaker 1>or Redemption Road indefinitely delays King Makers. This is from
<v Speaker 1>Sophie McAvoy at games Industry Dot based. Kingmakers is that
<v Speaker 1>game where you're a guy with I think with like
<v Speaker 1>a machine gun and a pickup truck and you go
<v Speaker 1>back to medieval times and you're driving around taking on
<v Speaker 1>armies of knights and soldiers.
<v Speaker 4>And things like that.
<v Speaker 3>I understand it's a spiritual successor to One Darkest of Days.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly right, It's basically the same thing. Redemption Road
<v Speaker 1>games upcoming title king Makers, which was set for release
<v Speaker 1>on October eighth, that's two days from now, let's see here,
<v Speaker 1>has been indefinitely delayed. The developer shared the news on
<v Speaker 1>social media, citing that it needs a bit more time
<v Speaker 1>on content polished before we feel good about charging money
<v Speaker 1>for it. It's an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game, and we
<v Speaker 1>don't want to cut any planned features for the sake
<v Speaker 1>of getting it out the door. Earlier, it wrote, our
<v Speaker 1>goal from the start has been to create something that's
<v Speaker 1>nothing like anything else we've seen on the market in
<v Speaker 1>terms of gameplay, scale, scope and interactivity. It continued with
<v Speaker 1>King Makers. We set out to push the unreal engine
<v Speaker 1>for Codebase to its absolute limits while still providing true
<v Speaker 1>sixty frames per second to mid range PCs without the
<v Speaker 1>need for fake frames are We are an eighty percent
<v Speaker 1>engineering team who got into this to push technological barriers.
<v Speaker 1>We're making sure everyone who buys the game is enthralled
<v Speaker 1>and feels like their money was well spent. We want
<v Speaker 1>this to be the case whether you whether you have
<v Speaker 1>a top of the line RIG or PC that's seen
<v Speaker 1>better days.
<v Speaker 4>So it sounds like a couple things.
<v Speaker 1>Sounds like they want to polish up the content, like
<v Speaker 1>actually like make the game playing experience better.
<v Speaker 4>And also it sounds like maybe there's probably.
<v Speaker 1>Some performance issues and they want to make sure the
<v Speaker 1>game is going to run well.
<v Speaker 4>And I think that's it's admirable.
<v Speaker 1>Admirable to like at the last minute to lay your
<v Speaker 1>game if it's not there, because it's also probably the
<v Speaker 1>right move, especially right now because the games that are
<v Speaker 1>having issues have been mostly like big Triple A games,
<v Speaker 1>like the biggest games on Unreal Engine five. Borderlands four
<v Speaker 1>has had like a you know, one problem after another
<v Speaker 1>with its performance. And then on the indie side of things,
<v Speaker 1>we're getting all kinds of stuff that is not just
<v Speaker 1>like running well, but extremely polished and full of content,
<v Speaker 1>like Silk Song and Haities two, which are just enormous
<v Speaker 1>games that run great, look great, and and just like,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, they're just chock full of a million
<v Speaker 1>things to do. Even like I guess King Makers maybe
<v Speaker 1>borders on a meme game, a streamer game sort of thing.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, oh, it's a funny go out there and
<v Speaker 1>and take on take on hordes and enemies in a
<v Speaker 1>pickup truck.
<v Speaker 4>That's weird.
<v Speaker 1>Even the meme games like a Baby Steps, like that's
<v Speaker 1>a really solid and well made game that performs really
<v Speaker 1>well on a Steam deck and and also.
<v Speaker 4>Does have quite a bit to do.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, God, the competition from the indie side of
<v Speaker 1>things has really stepped up its game so if you
<v Speaker 1>come out and like, oh, it doesn't run well or
<v Speaker 1>I don't know this, it's just not quite there in
<v Speaker 1>terms of how much fun it is to play, you'll
<v Speaker 1>probably get left in the dust really fast. So it's like,
<v Speaker 1>if you believe in your game, this is probably the
<v Speaker 1>right move, right.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's real quick. Saw your eye twitching when you
<v Speaker 3>said baby steps. There a little bit of it.
<v Speaker 1>I got past the demand breaker, and now I just
<v Speaker 1>got to beat the train, which I'll do on stream
<v Speaker 1>at some point this week.
<v Speaker 3>Everybody, I do admire that they did this because I think,
<v Speaker 3>especially in the indie scene, as you mentioned, the tolerance
<v Speaker 3>level for a lack of solid performance is very low
<v Speaker 3>from an indie perspective and a brand new IP perspective.
<v Speaker 3>If you want to make it a little bigger. Borderlands
<v Speaker 3>four is having issues, but the Borderlands faithful will get
<v Speaker 3>through them so that when it's patched, it's the experience
<v Speaker 3>they want. Even Silk Song and Haites they're sequels, so
<v Speaker 3>people who are familiar with those games, they will give
<v Speaker 3>them the benefit of the doubt until they get to
<v Speaker 3>where they need to be. This is a brand new
<v Speaker 3>game from a studio that's never made a game like
<v Speaker 3>it before, and if they want to take extra time
<v Speaker 3>to make it, they have to realize this. They're only
<v Speaker 3>going to get one shot at a first impression, even
<v Speaker 3>if it's launching an early access and you can lean
<v Speaker 3>on the hey we're an early access. If it still
<v Speaker 3>plays like shit, people aren't gonna the early access just
<v Speaker 3>kind of gets lost in the shuffle. Now, I feel
<v Speaker 3>like you launch when you launch if early access is
<v Speaker 3>a designation that I think a lot of people tend
<v Speaker 3>to ignore unless they're really into the game or the
<v Speaker 3>development process or what have you. Right, So for them
<v Speaker 3>to do this and make it in a definite delay
<v Speaker 3>so they can iron out whatever needs to be ironed
<v Speaker 3>out is admirable. But at the same time, they're saying
<v Speaker 3>things here that kind of like the word incredibly ambitious,
<v Speaker 3>uncompromising game. Those phrases alone, everybody says that, you know
<v Speaker 3>what I mean, Like that's you want to make something
<v Speaker 3>that's nothing like anything else on the market in terms
<v Speaker 3>of gameplay, scale, soap and interactivity. What else does a
<v Speaker 3>game have? Gameplay scaloscope, interactivity, good fresh looks like I
<v Speaker 3>mean pressing, but press it? Yeah, who wanted to press
<v Speaker 3>the button? Like you've never pressed the button before exactly,
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. I'm on one of the two minds
<v Speaker 3>about this one. I appreciate the candor and the fact
<v Speaker 3>that they want to iron some stuff out before players
<v Speaker 3>get their hands on it, maybe some more internal testing,
<v Speaker 3>maybe some internal like mop testing or whatever you would
<v Speaker 3>call it. To pood, I think that makes a lot
<v Speaker 3>of sense. But how bad is it right that they
<v Speaker 3>can't even lean on the early access label, as useless
<v Speaker 3>as it may be, that they don't want to put
<v Speaker 3>anything out at all. That is a bit of a
<v Speaker 3>uh oh situation. But yes, it is a meme game.
<v Speaker 3>Yes it is a stream game, and I plan to
<v Speaker 3>mean the shit out of it because it seems so
<v Speaker 3>damn funny, just just a great concept that they have
<v Speaker 3>and I am looking forward to it whenever it happens. Now,
<v Speaker 3>if it happens, And I'm not saying that as if
<v Speaker 3>I think they're going to straight up cancel it. I'm
<v Speaker 3>just saying that as in, how long is it going
<v Speaker 3>to take them to iron this stuff out? And will
<v Speaker 3>the ship have sailed by then? If they can't iron
<v Speaker 3>this out by May of twenty twenty six, for example,
<v Speaker 3>maybe we don't say, until twenty twenty seven, because there's
<v Speaker 3>a big grand theft auto size monster sitting that is
<v Speaker 3>always there in the horizon for any studio, they have
<v Speaker 3>to be cognizant of it.
<v Speaker 4>It's worth pointing out before we move on. This was Kingmakers.
<v Speaker 1>Was that game that were one of the mini games,
<v Speaker 1>but one game that got a movie adaptation announced, which
<v Speaker 1>is crazy. But if yeah, a movie adaptation. Hey, there
<v Speaker 1>was like a Reddit post a long time ago about
<v Speaker 1>a guy who's like wrote like a kind of a
<v Speaker 1>story treatment about a group of soldiers, modern day soldiers
<v Speaker 1>getting sent back in time to like take on the
<v Speaker 1>Roman military or something like that. I think there's like
<v Speaker 1>appetite for something like this in Hollywood, but I think
<v Speaker 1>that's like part of this is, Hey, we have a
<v Speaker 1>multimedia strategy, Like the game has to be as good
<v Speaker 1>as it possibly can be when we finally put it out,
<v Speaker 1>so that the next step of this thing can still
<v Speaker 1>happen and people feel good about it, because if the
<v Speaker 1>game comes out and no one cares, then the movie
<v Speaker 1>probably gets canceled, and that's even more money out of
<v Speaker 1>these people's pockets.
<v Speaker 3>Exactly what it.
<v Speaker 4>Is, absolutely time travel is a cup but he's a gay.
<v Speaker 3>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>Red Dead Redemption two's PS five, Xbox series and switch
<v Speaker 1>To versions are still happening.
<v Speaker 4>It's claimed headline.
<v Speaker 3>Is the story neath the hate.
<v Speaker 4>Kind of reconfirm this.
<v Speaker 1>I believe it because Red Dead Redemption Redemption two on
<v Speaker 1>PS four and Xbox one and now those versions running
<v Speaker 1>on the new consoles are all locked to thirty frames
<v Speaker 1>per second.
<v Speaker 4>I believe. And so, okay, well, that's.
<v Speaker 1>Like an instant sort of thing where it's like you
<v Speaker 1>put that thing back out, an updated version or whatever,
<v Speaker 1>it's gonna start selling again on those old consoles. And
<v Speaker 1>then if you get a run on switch To, which
<v Speaker 1>it should be able to run up fine on switch
<v Speaker 1>to now twenty eighteen game on switch To with like
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of DLSS help. I think probably maybe
<v Speaker 1>thirty frames per second, but it could be higher on
<v Speaker 1>the switch to.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>It's so yeah that that sounds about right. I believe
<v Speaker 1>this is happening.
<v Speaker 4>How about you.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think this is a no brainer, honestly, to
<v Speaker 3>not only to have an updated version on current consoles,
<v Speaker 3>but to put it on switch to as well. I
<v Speaker 3>feel like anything if you're doing an upgraded version from
<v Speaker 3>a PS four game. The switch to port just kind
<v Speaker 3>of happens naturally at this point because of the features.
<v Speaker 1>And maybe the reason to do it. And then the
<v Speaker 1>other consoles get the benefit, right of like the switch
<v Speaker 1>to work and then put the Yeah that makes sense too. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think this is a no brainer. It's one of
<v Speaker 1>the most ballyhooed games ever, right, definitely a last generation
<v Speaker 1>uh so to give a to give the current players
<v Speaker 1>the ability to play it, and to put it on
<v Speaker 1>switch to for a brand new audience for the Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>only crowd. I think it's I loved it. I don't
<v Speaker 1>finish many long winded games like that. And I played
<v Speaker 1>this to credits so and even post credits. I did
<v Speaker 1>all the postcards stuff afterwards. So yeah, I play it
<v Speaker 1>again when I had time. I think.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's absolutely worse one of one of the games.
<v Speaker 3>If I were to make a list of aims to
<v Speaker 3>be ported to switch to, let alone the other consoles,
<v Speaker 3>it would be at the top, if not at the
<v Speaker 3>very top of this That makes the most sense. I
<v Speaker 3>don't know what else will be on there. We could
<v Speaker 3>talk about that later, but uh yeah, this this seems
<v Speaker 3>like a no brainer. Now, the question then becomes when
<v Speaker 3>when do you announce this?
<v Speaker 2>This?
<v Speaker 3>Is this a is this achille Fest announcement? Is this
<v Speaker 3>a Nintendo Direct? Not that you're getting one of those
<v Speaker 3>for the rest of the year unless you do another
<v Speaker 3>partner thing? Is that? Do you do you wait for
<v Speaker 3>something like that? Do you shadow drop it? You know
<v Speaker 3>what I mean? Like there's that. Those are the kind
<v Speaker 3>of questions I have more than is it happening, because
<v Speaker 3>I think it is.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, yep, I'm with you. Let's keep going here. Silent
<v Speaker 1>Hill two may be coming to switch to US is
<v Speaker 1>as its exclusivity window ends for some reason that was
<v Speaker 1>hard to say. This is from Alie Reynolds at Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Life again headline kind of the story. But idea here
<v Speaker 1>is like that Silent Hill two was was it locked
<v Speaker 1>to PlayStation? It was put PS five and PC for
<v Speaker 1>one year, and so it's like it could become an
<v Speaker 1>Xbox Series X and S. But I think the more
<v Speaker 1>likely scenario is, yeah, that could easily come to switch
<v Speaker 1>to the more even more recent game. Maybe some problems
<v Speaker 1>im ported in but I don't think so, because you know,
<v Speaker 1>it just seems like something Konami would want to get done,
<v Speaker 1>and maybe they could figure it out, and I bet
<v Speaker 1>they'd be able to do it. Yeah, I could see
<v Speaker 1>that on Switch to I think, honestly a lot of
<v Speaker 1>these these spooky games, I think there's an audience of
<v Speaker 1>people who show up for for like your Marios and
<v Speaker 1>Zelda's on Nintendo systems for sure, but there are there
<v Speaker 1>is an audience that just likes playing games on their
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo hardware, and they hear about these games on other platforms,
<v Speaker 1>and when they finally come to Switch, they occasionally get rewarded,
<v Speaker 1>not always, some certainly just miss the mark completely. But
<v Speaker 1>this feels like the one that would be in the
<v Speaker 1>wheelhouse of that audience.
<v Speaker 3>What do you think? I agree? And they've and as
<v Speaker 3>this article continues, they've already kind of bridged the gap,
<v Speaker 3>has Bluebird Team, because Kronos, their breaker new game Really Good,
<v Speaker 3>is on Switch too, So I feel like they may
<v Speaker 3>have gone about this the right way. You put the
<v Speaker 3>original IPO on their first test out the Switch. You
<v Speaker 3>are hardware and environments, see what you can get away
<v Speaker 3>with what you can, and then put Silent Hill two
<v Speaker 3>in that format however you can do it. But yes,
<v Speaker 3>I think this is another one that I think has
<v Speaker 3>a very good chance of being ported, because, like you said,
<v Speaker 3>the appetite is there. It is the perfect kind of
<v Speaker 3>game to play handheld Lights Off around this time of year.
<v Speaker 3>It is it is spooky season, so I feel like
<v Speaker 3>there are Nintendo players that will get like, you know,
<v Speaker 3>the the old blanket over your head while you're playing it.
<v Speaker 3>That seems like something they might want to do. It's
<v Speaker 3>a it's a year or what this week the eighth
<v Speaker 3>you said, So this Wednesday it'll be the eighth. I guarantee,
<v Speaker 3>not guarantee, but I'm pretty pretty certain you'll hear about
<v Speaker 3>the Xbox and switch to ports that day, if not
<v Speaker 3>the next day or whatever whatever the contracting allows it.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if it'll come out exactly a year after.
<v Speaker 3>That doesn't seem like a shadow drop to me. They
<v Speaker 3>might want to put a little time in between announcement
<v Speaker 3>and port, but maybe by the holidays. If not, maybe
<v Speaker 3>very beginning of twenty twenty six. I think you'll see it.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, that'd be and that would hit hard.
<v Speaker 1>I think that that would go do very well if they,
<v Speaker 1>like they could shadow drop it this October.
<v Speaker 3>That sweet.
<v Speaker 1>I think it may be very successful. But you're right,
<v Speaker 1>they probably do want to give it a little bit
<v Speaker 1>of time, announce it use of marketing, we'll see.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, last store here.
<v Speaker 1>Digital Foundery delivers a technical breakdown of Switch two's d LSS. Basically,
<v Speaker 1>there's two versions of d LSS on the switch to,
<v Speaker 1>but it's used in quite a few games, so it's like,
<v Speaker 1>if a game is running well on the switch to,
<v Speaker 1>it probably has a big part of it is DLSS.
<v Speaker 1>And I think it's worth pointing out that I think
<v Speaker 1>we gave some shit to Randy when he was like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>Borderlands four was a game made for DLSS, so.
<v Speaker 4>You should use it.
<v Speaker 1>And the reason that that is fair to give him
<v Speaker 1>shit for that is not everyone has DLSS on their
<v Speaker 1>PC or and definitely not on their consoles unless it's
<v Speaker 1>a switch to. So building your game for that tech
<v Speaker 1>when it's going to be running on all these different
<v Speaker 1>pieces of hardware, is bad. It's not like it is.
<v Speaker 1>It should be the sugar on top. It should not
<v Speaker 1>be a core part of how you are building your
<v Speaker 1>game to run on post hardware unless that's the switch Too,
<v Speaker 1>in which case you know everyone's going to have DLSS.
<v Speaker 1>And also it has these two mount models, the one
<v Speaker 1>where it's like kind of a heavy DLSS that can
<v Speaker 1>that's pretty good for moving a resolution from like five
<v Speaker 1>forty P up to ten EIGHTYP, which is what something
<v Speaker 1>like street Fighter uses, street Fighter six uses that street
<v Speaker 1>Fighter six looks phenomenal. It's actually sometimes running at like
<v Speaker 1>three six DYP, but you just can't tell because the
<v Speaker 1>DLSS is very good and does a really good job
<v Speaker 1>with like smoothing out the edges. Remember I got a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of shit myself a little bit when I
<v Speaker 1>was like, yo, why does Street Fighter five look so
<v Speaker 1>sharp on the switch compared to like the PlayStation versions
<v Speaker 1>where it's like, well here it's this or this. It's like, Nope,
<v Speaker 1>it was the DLSS. Just like I was saying, It's
<v Speaker 1>like that's just that technology was that good for that game.
<v Speaker 1>There's this other DLSS that is a little bit more lightweight,
<v Speaker 1>but it enables games to go up to a much
<v Speaker 1>higher resolution, but you get a little bit more of
<v Speaker 1>the jaggy edges, a little bit worse anti Alia scene and.
<v Speaker 3>Stuff like that.
<v Speaker 4>But it's what Star Wars Outlaws uses.
<v Speaker 1>So it's like, Okay, developers have these options, and it's
<v Speaker 1>why we're seeing like a bunch of varying degrees of
<v Speaker 1>quality from these games.
<v Speaker 4>But also it's why it does.
<v Speaker 1>Feel like developers are usually able to get something that
<v Speaker 1>runs well on Switch too, because they have a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of tools in the toolbox to turn to. And I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, it feels like I would give credit to Nintendo,
<v Speaker 1>but this definitely feels like Nvidia just like working extra
<v Speaker 1>hard to make sure that this was a really good
<v Speaker 1>SDK for developers to get the most out of this
<v Speaker 1>hardware on the Switch too. I've been mostly happy with
<v Speaker 1>this hardware so far. How about you, Jason.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, everything I've played that came from other consoles or
<v Speaker 3>that was poured it over, I feel like has performed
<v Speaker 3>very well. I am very happy with my Switch to
<v Speaker 3>purchase day one purchase so far. Granted a lot of
<v Speaker 3>that has been playing first party games. Donkey Kong and
<v Speaker 3>Mario Kart are dominate that time. I'm not going to lie,
<v Speaker 3>but Haites two runs fantastic, stream Fighter six runs fantastically.
<v Speaker 3>The little bit I played of Cyberpunk on switch To
<v Speaker 3>played great. I have no complaints so far. I'm waiting.
<v Speaker 3>I haven't. I'm waiting for the game to disappoint me,
<v Speaker 3>which is a weird thing to say, but like so far,
<v Speaker 3>and we've said this time and time again, all of
<v Speaker 3>the all the talk around switch tos hardware has been positive,
<v Speaker 3>not only from the player side, but from the dev
<v Speaker 3>side too, and I think that is a good barometer
<v Speaker 3>of where it's going now. Whether it can keep up
<v Speaker 3>in year two and year three, especially when these new
<v Speaker 3>generation of PlayStation and Xbox consoles whenever they happen arrive,
<v Speaker 3>remains to be seen, but at least I would think
<v Speaker 3>until twenty twenty seven, they're in a decent spot. I hope.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if there's going to be ways that
<v Speaker 3>they can update the firmware and make it even more efficient.
<v Speaker 3>I'm not sure about that. I doubt it, but for now,
<v Speaker 3>I think they're in a pretty good place. Yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 3>happy with it so far I did. I don't know
<v Speaker 3>if we're sure to still talk about that, but I
<v Speaker 3>have some breaking news. It broke five minutes before we
<v Speaker 3>started here. Fun Com is laying off uh some staffers today,
<v Speaker 3>including the entirety of the studio The Outsiders, created by
<v Speaker 3>David Goldfarb made Metal Heal singer. Oh right, yeah, that
<v Speaker 3>studio has That studio is closed David Goldfarb himself put
<v Speaker 3>on Blue Sky Friends. I have not had much time
<v Speaker 3>to process the news, but all of us at the
<v Speaker 3>Outsiders and funcom Stockholm have been affected by the layoffs
<v Speaker 3>at fun Coom and our ten year old studio will
<v Speaker 3>be closing. Many of us have survived in your death
<v Speaker 3>studio experience years back when Darkborne was canceled, and because
<v Speaker 3>of this team's loyalty and refusal to quit metal, Helsinger
<v Speaker 3>was born. It will always be a high point for
<v Speaker 3>me personally, and I will forever be grateful we got
<v Speaker 3>to make it and for the wonderful team and partnerships
<v Speaker 3>that made it happen. He says that things will only
<v Speaker 3>go the way you hope. We're going to try and
<v Speaker 3>continue on in some new form. If you could think
<v Speaker 3>you can help it any way, business leads, placement for employees, guidance,
<v Speaker 3>I would be generally grateful if you reach out. Change
<v Speaker 3>is tough right now. We're all hurting. Thanks so much
<v Speaker 3>so another one, another good one. Helsinger was a great
<v Speaker 3>little idea.
<v Speaker 4>Like David, he's a cool guy.
<v Speaker 3>And I'll pulled it. What pulled me in was the
<v Speaker 3>fact they had original music by one sarch, Tank Tanky
<v Speaker 3>and tank Kaian overstead a system of it down. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I came, I came ripped. It was such a good
<v Speaker 3>idea rhythm shooter, heavy metal. That's check in a lot
<v Speaker 3>of boxes for me. So to see that they're being
<v Speaker 3>rewarded by the studio closing, just another side of the times.
<v Speaker 4>Man, yep. Absolutely thanks for catching that.
<v Speaker 1>We should wrap up this show here though, So let's uh,
<v Speaker 1>let's do a few things. No, no poll question from
<v Speaker 1>last week. We did do the Bomb twelve. I'll get
<v Speaker 1>a blog post up today that has the results, but
<v Speaker 1>we talked about it last week. There will be a
<v Speaker 1>new form link at the bottom of that blog post
<v Speaker 1>so you could submit your game for the Bomb twelve
<v Speaker 1>this week. Looking forward to seeing how we wrap up
<v Speaker 1>and see what's gonna make the list as we get
<v Speaker 1>to Friday. Let's see here a new poll question, when
<v Speaker 1>was the last time you used a plastic instrument controller?
<v Speaker 1>Like for rock band this month, this year, within the
<v Speaker 1>last two years or three years or more. The rock
<v Speaker 1>band is getting to delisted because a lot of the
<v Speaker 1>songs that they had are are losing their licenses because
<v Speaker 1>they went about ten years. So kind of interesting to
<v Speaker 1>see what people are are doing with those controllers. All right,
<v Speaker 1>Jason Fanilli, thank you so much for hanging out with
<v Speaker 1>me today and talk about video games.
<v Speaker 4>Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, yes, anytime you know where to find me on socials, Come,
<v Speaker 3>come chat and we'll be talking about Magic Con soon.
<v Speaker 3>Have a nice little op ed going about the way
<v Speaker 3>that they're approaching things now, and I genuinely am not
<v Speaker 3>sure how it's going to be taken, so about that.
<v Speaker 4>I want to see it a couple more things here.
<v Speaker 1>Andrew Morton says, hell yeah, love the anger from earlier
<v Speaker 1>when I was doing my Jason Finelli impression. Super chaff
<v Speaker 1>and Burrito says our boy, and Mike looks great in green.
<v Speaker 1>Talking about the Golf Week shirt, everybody store at giant
<v Speaker 1>bomb dot com go check that out.
<v Speaker 4>You want to see You want to see.
<v Speaker 1>The pictures of Mike at the golf course as well,
<v Speaker 1>and the best way to see those images is just
<v Speaker 1>to go to store at GiantBomb dot com.
<v Speaker 4>It is Golf Week.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna have lots of golf games all throughout the week.
<v Speaker 1>Later later on in the week, we're going to have
<v Speaker 1>a kind of competition across a couple of days where
<v Speaker 1>we like try to like have We're gonna keep track
<v Speaker 1>of our strokes across multiple games, so look out for that.
<v Speaker 1>Today Mike's gonna be playing Pebble Beach, which is used
<v Speaker 1>as the.
<v Speaker 4>Same engine that was used for Virtual Hideline.
<v Speaker 1>That'll be during Monday mornings missed with mitche Yeah, we're
<v Speaker 1>just gonna have a bunch of stuff. I think tomorrow
<v Speaker 1>morning I'll play some Kirby stream course. Maybe I'll see
<v Speaker 1>if someone else is available to hop in there with
<v Speaker 1>me and play competitive, But yeah, hang out with us
<v Speaker 1>for golf week.
<v Speaker 4>We're looking forward to it.
<v Speaker 1>One last thing I believe today over at kind of
<v Speaker 1>Funny for kind of Funny Games Daily, it's their two
<v Speaker 1>thousandth episode. Oh wow, go give them some love. I
<v Speaker 1>love that show. It definitely obviously inspired this show. They're
<v Speaker 1>great guys over there, and they're kind of doing a
<v Speaker 1>big celebration. So go check that out if I believe it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>October sixth, I think that was the date they said,
<v Speaker 1>So go check that out.
<v Speaker 4>I think they do it at.
<v Speaker 1>One pm Eastering, that'd be ten am Pacific time, and
<v Speaker 1>then come back over here and we'll do some pebble
<v Speaker 1>beach after that.
<v Speaker 4>All right, one more.
<v Speaker 1>Time, Thank you Jason, thank you everybody for watching and listening.
<v Speaker 4>You are the best audience in gaming.
<v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of yourself,
<v Speaker 1>and goodbye.
