#220 - 5 Things to Look Forward To in 2020 and Mess Ups Left in Songs

Speaker 1: I welcome to episode to twenty. We'll talk to Lauren Joe Black from Country Now dot Com. Five things to look forward to in We'll talk a little bitbout the Golden Globes this week, and Mike d has a movie podcast called Mike D's Movie Podcasts, what it called Mike Movie, Mike's Movie Podcast, Movie, Mike's Movie Podcast. I did want to start with this article I saw from Ultimate Guitar. They have a list of songs with mistakes that they didn't take out of the recording. So I love when people leave things in, and a lot of times we go, man, that really that was a great idea to leave character, and sometimes they're like, oh, yeah, we didn't hear it, or sometimes they were like, we had no other option but to leave it in because the take was so good, especially with old music, because they all have to get in the room at the same time and record and sometimes it's just live and that's what they happen. It's like they all have to Yeah. So these are seven mistakes not edited out, and we'll start with the song here Black Country Woman from Led Zeppelin. Here's the first song, should we? So they were recording at a house and just as they started, a plane flew over. You can hear the plane flying over right there. So play that again, and so Robert Plant going, I leave it. Here you go again, not even yet, not leave it. I'll leave it. But if you didn't know, and you can let it play for a minute, if you didn't know, you would think that was part of the recording on purpose, because it does sound cool and my guys hanging out and like, who cares. But they all had to get in the same room and play instruments at the same time. Back then, they weren't really tracking like they do now. Turn that up him, listen mad cool. The next up is rock Sand from the Police. At the beginning, you can hear a cluster of keyboard notes, followed by Sting's laugh. He accidentally sat on the keyboard. Here's the song. It's four seconds in. It fits so well that it could have been intentional, but it wasn't. Here you go, that's funny. That's very quick. So you here we go, and we'll do it again. Here we go. Sting sat on the keyboard and that's what this is. Go ahead, that's funny, he laughs. That laugh is in the song Wow Rocks it's pretty cool. Next up is wish you hear from Pink Floyd. So David go Moore coughs and can be heard breathing right before the main guitar comes in. Now, the rumor is that he couldn't hold in a cough because he smoked so much, and he was so upset when heard the final take that he quits ooking cold turkey the next day. So you can start the song now because it's like twenty seven seconds. That was a cough. Sniffle wet to that cough. So again it just sounds like it's part of the song here played again, funny wish you were here the other version? Would they like take that part out? They are because it's like on one channel of the track, So there's another version where that channel is just muted. That's interesting. Uh. I saw her again from the Moms and papas. They did a lot of layered vocals, but the repeated I saw her. I saw her at the beginning of the third verse. There was a mistake in the editing. They liked it, so they kept it in so that first I saw her as an accident. He came in early, he goes, I saw her I saw her again. The first one is an accident. So the song Lou LOUI, Oh yeah, we gotta go thought by the Kingsman, someone drops an F bomb in the background about about a minute into the song, supposedly because the vocalist came into early. Now this is the song. If you're going through listed on your own, uh streaming, the F bombs about fifty four seconds in, you can barely hear it, and you wouldn't know as the F four were that being told. But now that you know, I don't even know if I played on the radio, now that I know, because you know, remind me, let's talk about the fard after this. But here we go that. So in the back you're the guy go stop right there. If you play that again, now that you heard it, listen again, And it's because the vocalist came in a bit too early. Here you go right there. Yeah. So in poker Face, I think from Lady Gaga, which isn't on this thing here, it wasn't an accident, but didn't it leave the effort in on purpose? And there's only one station to ever catch it? Yeah, because she keeps saying poker face, poker face and then there's like one instance where she says the word her face right, and they left it in and ready just played it. Nobody ever knew. I remember people mentioning that, but I was like, oh, you're just hearing that, but apparently was true. Here is number six from one of my favorite bands of all time, favorite artists Been Folds five Stephen's Last Night in Talents name of the song. They were recording it in a house and towards the end of the song you can hear a phone ringing, but since it sounded like a fit, they left it in. It's like two fifty six into the song. Here you go last night and so that phones in the background, it goes it's when it dropped. Yea, So hear it in the more time last night. That's pretty funny. Look, it's really good. It sounds like it fits because all his drums and piano sounds like a keyboard, almost like keep playing. It sounds like more. Mayhem added one more. Here is bar lights from Whiskey Town. So Ryan Adams is in Whiskeytown. Ryan Adams forgot his line, started laughing, Caitlyn Carrey started laughing, and Ryan broke a string all in one bad moment and they still use that take. Now it's two five into the song. As the song fades out, he explains what happened. So and there's an F word and just here you go. Look, that won't make you mad. That won't make you mad, that won't make Here comes the explanation somewhere that did. It doesn't have a very end like go, hey, there you go broken string Right after that happened, you believe that I forgot the line, started laughing and then my string broke. All right, I'm going to the bar. So those are the seven things. It's from Ultimate Guitar Solid article. Loved it. I thought it was so good. Um and since where a music nerd podcast? Basically it gets no more music nerdy than that. Some of them songs that aren't even singles, they're just songs on records somewhere. So um yeah, there you go. Do they call you? Lauren? Lauren Joe? What do they what do they call you? Okay, that's what I lawresen to Lauren in like my World, So sometimes I'm Lauren Joe, but mostly it's Laurence at Lauren Joe Black on Instagram. By the way, and Lauren has been covering country music since two thousand eight or so, Yes, because you started the website country Music is Love way back in the day. Is that right, Yeah, in two thousand eight. It's crazy that you say that, because I was just thinking it will be twelve years that I've been covering country music this year, and then you sold that to a record label and they changed the name of it. Was my story right on this and it's all kind of coming back to me now. Yeah. So I sold it to a record label in Nashville and I was the editor there. Um we rebranded it to Sounds like Nashville and I was the editor there for a couple of years. And then in two thousand nineteen, I launched a new website, which is Country Now and I'm loving it and the response has been really great and excited to be working on a it again this year, so check her out and check out country now dot com. Five things to look forward to what is and let's go in reverse order. So five are these in order for you? Or no? Are they just at random? Five? I just did a random Okay, so we'll just do number one. What's the first thing we're looking forward to? Well, I think for me and a lot of country fans, it's just seeing Luke Combs continue to skyrocket to the top. I mean, he's already at the top of his game, and I think that it will just continue in Um. I mean, he's got what seven number ones, He dominated all the awards shows, and I think it's really good for country music. I feel like he's just your normal guy and people can relate to him because of that, and I think this year will continue to see him rise to the top. And my bet is which you may agree, Um, we'll probably see an Entertainer of the Year nomination on the horizon, if not, you know, for the a c m S, potentially the CMAZ later this year. You know, I was talking about on air, I was doing a look into the crystal ball and I actually predicted Luke Combs would win Entertainer of the Year at the c MAS this year and the same page there, and I know it's it's rare for someone to come in never be nominated and then just scoop up the wind. But it's almost undeniable because it sells everything. No, he sells everything, tickets and music. Yeah, And a couple of years ago, if you said Luke, you know, everybody would just think Luke Brian. You could just say it's Luke. But now you know there's two Lukes, and you know it's kind of like they're both at the top. But I think Luke Combs is just going to take that edge this year and we'll see, uh, a big, big year for him. Who do you think got the bigger shaft at the c MAS this year? Did you think that Carrie not winning it or Luke Brian not being nominated was the bigger upset? Um, that's a tough one, but I'm gonna have to go with Carrie not winning. I just think that she did everything right, Like she checked off all the boxes this year. And um, you know, Luke music wise, like it's been a while since we've had an album. Um, you know, his touring is kind of cut back a little bit. But I mean Carrie did everything and you know she's at the Opry, she's you know, on all these national shows. She did her massive tour, so I definitely would have to say carry on that one, and they both were big upsets that that it didn't happen. Now, I would actually go the other way because you know, with Eric Church, if he didn't want or Garth one, it's hard to argue because everyone has their super strength. But with Luke Brian, he had. He didn't put out a record, it's been a while, but he did have a bunch of number ones, and yes he did scale back touring. But two things happened. One he got on a primetime television show, which kind of raises his entertainer profile more than just a country artist. I felt like him not being nominated. Again, there's not a wrong answer, and I feel like both of them were disappointments, but I feel like Luke Brian not being nominated did was a shocker because he is the biggest thing in contemporary country music right now. Yeah, I mean, I definitely see your point because also when you hear Entertainer of the Year, you immediately think, well, i've show, but it actually is a lot of things that play into that. It's their live show, but also you know their presence as a whole, So being on a national television show like American Idol of course is a big one. So I do see your point there. For sure. That's interesting that you interpret Entertainer of the Year because, and this is the controversy or or just a debate, what does that mean. I don't see Entertainer of the Year as a live music thing. I see it as a total three sixty like what do you add from all the different angles? Now I'm not right, but it just goes to show that two people who both work in the industry can have a different interpretation on what Entertainer of the Year means. And that's why people can be disappointed that their person didn't win, because maybe they did check the boxes that they thought Entertainer of the Year, but maybe not the others. Right, Yeah, I definitely see that, And I think fans, like from an outside, outside perspective, really think about being an entertainer, you know, just their literal live show. If that's the case, if it is about a live show, then they got it right. And I've seen everybody perform. Nobody outperforms Garth live and sells more arenas than Garth in a row. So again, there wasn't a wrong answer, but I felt like Luke not being nominated for the c m A Award and Carrie not winning. We're both general disappointments with the public. So I wonder where you fell. And you know what, we disagree, but I still like you, Mike. I still like her, all right, We're still we don't have to dislike somebody because we disagree. Number four, Lauren on the five things look forward to, Well, I think it's a good segue. So CMAS. I mean, this is a big year for the CMA Awards because Carrie just announced that she's stepping down from hosting after twelve years. And of course the eleven years UM she was with Brad. This past year she hosted with Reba and Dolly Parton, and you know, it's it's a big thing. I think to think about, Um, who's gonna host and how are they going to make the show really big? Because Carry brought a lot of star power to the show, definitely, rebut and Dolly did this year. UM, and a lot of people are looking at Thomas Rtt and Kelsey Ballerini. You know, they're thinking, hey, maybe they'll be the next duo. They kind of UM had a little training session as you could say with the c m A Fest hosting um, which you did to Bobby. So I mean, I don't know if your calendar is open in early November, but maybe you should leave it open because you could be a good contender for that too. But I think this year the c m A Awards will um, you know, definitely have to They'll have to be big because they're going to have to keep their audience and keep people watching without Carrie and Brad. I'm gonna not comment on this just from my own personal because I know too much that's happening right now, and I'll say that the tr and Kelsey stuff, people are just walking down the wrong track with that. That's right now, it's not even in the conversation. I don't think that. I don't think that they to do it. I don't think I think they would, But it's not going that direction right now. Things could change, well, you know, some people think that when you're a host, it kind of puts like a peg on you that you just don't win anymore. And a lot of people have said that about Carrie, you know, for whatever reason. But um, yeah, I don't know. I mean that could make sense, like if wherever they're out in their career if they didn't want to do it. But now you really have me thinking, well, here's the thing, is that anyone that goes into that M I'm just walking on. I'll talk a lot. I just know too. But um, here's what I'll say is that anyone that goes into that, if they somewhat look like Carrying Brad, They're going to be compared exactly to Carry and Brad. And the last thing I would want to be as another male and female artist hopping up after Carrying Brad have done it for eleven or twelve years, because it's gonna be like and we'll use them for an example. And I will use them a example because they're both friends of mine, t R and Kelsey. How do they do compared to Carry and Brad? That is not what you want. And you never want to follow the guy. You want to follow the guy who follows the guy. Now, Carrie had a deal with Dolly and and Reba, and I'll say this too, I just get myself in trouble. Carry and I share an agent um which has nothing to do with C. M. A. Wards. But I do know about that. There was only nothing personal with Carrie leaving, she just felt like she had done it all, and I don't think she wanted to be stunt casted again with someone else, meaning she wasn't She's not gonna hang it out for five or six more years probably doing it. It'll only be a couple, and I don't think she wanted to go through the novelty of them putting somebody new with her every year. So I'm gonna end on this note that I don't think it'll be another guy girl pair of artists at this point right now, because I don't think they wanted to look like junior varsity care Carrie and Brad. Yes, they don't want it to look like junior varsity carry and Brad. I will say that, and I will now walk away from this, thank you. But it's it's a great people people are talking about and we'll stand by. Okay, number what's I think I'm with the wrong orlder at one than four? So now let's do two or what's what's next up? Okay, so the next you know, the female conversation. We've had the female conversation for years, but I'm just gonna take a little bit of a twist on it because you know, everyone wants female to get more airplay, which I agree, but I'm thinking this is just gonna be a really great year to look forward to for great music coming from amazing artist to our female. Um, and I was thinking about you know, we know Carly Pierce has a record coming, Kelsey Ballerini will be announcing her as any day, Lindsay l Ingrid Andrews, possibly something from Gabby Barrett. And another one that which is huge is the Dixie Chicks. So I think this is gonna be a really really great year for females and um, hopefully that will translate to airplay. But I mean, from what I've heard of Carly's album, it's gonna be amazing. And I mean all these ladies, I think it's just going to be really really good. I would love a Dixie Chicks album because like they just came back and said, hey, take us or leave us, but we're country again and here we are. I would love it. I would support it so much. I've never not supported the Dixie Chicks. I would just love it. And uh and uh, Kelsey and I are good friends. I I don't listen to many artists music before they put it out but I'll say this, Kelsey and I've been been friends, and she told me before she had a record deal, and and so I do, well, we'll listen to things. And I don't think she's announced, but she has some really cool collapse on her record that are coming up that I've been able to hear. Um, So the Kelsey stopps exciting to me. Obviously, the Lindsay record is gonna be cool, but also to me, I think there's a lot of songs that aren't good about me. I think this is the angry album about me, um, because the last time was good about me. This album is gonna be her kind of probably getting some of her frustration out about our relationship. So as much as I think it's gonna be great because Dan Help is producing it, who produced Kane Brown, who produces basically everybody, they're gonna be a great record, but one that I'm a little nervous about. UM, and the and the Gabby Barrett stuff will be interesting too, So I'm with you on most of that there. Um. You know, I was talking on my show this morning about uh female artists and how a revolution isn't good an evolution is, and where a lot of these groups will pressure programmers or playlist ers to go just put a bunch of females in there, which, being an advocate like I am, I've always said that's the absolute worst thing to do, because what what what will happen and I've seen happen is some of these pro And I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't care really what radio plays. I play what I want to play. Sometimes I just let the tested songs play. But you can play any songs around me I and be okay. I get hired to talk. But and that's also why I can be an advocate for certain kinds of music, because I'm really not attached to anything specifically. But I've seen in instances where they have taken just female records and go okay, we're gonna slam lem up, and they let them run for eight or nine or ten weeks, and they don't get the research back because they haven't been organically grown and haven't spent time with the records on the radio. And then they go, we told you it wasn't good, which isn't fair also to that female artist because it didn't get to come up the same slow system getting uh minor research at the beginning. You know, if it didn't come back good, it was okay. They were still going to grow it. So for a lot of these programmers that are just throwing females in the mix, Like, I love the idea of it, but it's not good for long term because as soon as you throw something in and it doesn't test well, they go, we told you what did you want from us? We tried, it didn't work. So I do love that we're seeing a lot of A and R teams spend more time recruiting developing female artists because that's where it starts. More record labels are spending time, uh, nurturing these artists that Gabby Barrett's a great example of that. They didn't just roll out with a big album and stay here, let's go. They spent time with our writing songs, putting out a song, putting out a second song. So I'm in the camp of it should have taken a few years and now we're really getting ready to go, and and and ready in prime for a bunch of these female artists to grow even further. And Ingrid Andrews is stoppable train like she is probably my favorite new artist, so Um, I know I jumped in a lot of that of yours. Lauren, Oh no, I love it. I love to hear your thoughts. I mean I did. I think it's just going to be incredible. And what what I think is amazing too, is just I think that they're making really great music. Like before people would say, well, the music isn't good, but this is really good music. It just needs to be heard. Next up, let's say, let's just call us one, number four, number four or five. Okay, so, um, let's see that. I'm just gonna just do a generic. This is the tour, the year of tours. I mean, everyone is headlining. The lineups are stacked. Um, fans just better save their money or be really picky and choosy of what they go see. Um. I mean, so far there's been major tour announcements from Luke Coombs, Kenny Jesny, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldan, Thomas Rhett, and then also some of the legendary artists like Rebuzz going back on the Road and Alan Jackson. And I just think it's just such a great time, um, you know, to get out go see a show. And like I said, these lineups are stacked like the Jason al Dean tour is Morgan Wallen and Riley Green and Jason Aldean, like that is a good lineup. Um, so fans are definitely getting their money's worth when they're going to see these shows. And as a fan of country music myself, I'm excited to go see them too. The shows are great. Here's the frustration is that tickets are so expensive, and these artists are doing a great job of making the shows really pop, and they're they're using a lot of technology to make the shows cooler. They're making it more of a three sixty experience a lot of times. But you're right, if you don't save your money, you get like one or two shows a year, and it's it's kind of the old Um, what do you want a really great, amazing show or a cheaper ticket because they don't come together. You're not gonna get a show where they spend a bunch of money on the show and you pay ten bucks. So it is there, and I think that more amazing shows there are the better just for fans. They're more to choose from. But tickets, man, they are really getting up there, especially if you want something on the floor or mid level, they're like a hundred bucks apiece. Yeah, and especially if you want to go to Vegas, like these Vegas shows, Crazy Brooks and Done, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, they're all out in Vegas this year, and those are very pricey. Yeah, but I'll also say this, and again, Laurena, we have an advantage because we're in the industry. We don't have to pay for tickets anymore. Right, But you know, yeah, spoiled. I grew up broke though, so I'm always watching money. And I went to Riba and Brooks and Dune in Vegas and it wouldn't matter what that ticket cost. That's a once in a lifetime kind of thing. That was really an amazing show. And so that's one of those where I'm like, man, if you got to save up to go to that show and you love them, you should go to that show if you love them. Um, So all right, and give me the last one of the five things, Lauren. Alright, So this is just this is my personal favorite. It's just I feel like the past couple of years we've seen this resurgence of a traditional like nineties country sound. We're getting away from like the bro country sounds too. Artists leading the pack of this are you know, John Party, Riley Green, Luke Hoombs again, Morgan Wallen, Um and even Carly Pierce I think kind of has that, like especially Um. Her latest single I Hope You're Happy Now kind of has a more throwback five. But personally I love nineties country and I think that just this leaning toward that throwback sound is really cool and I think we're going to keep seeing that. How do you feel about Rascal Flats breaking up? Now? Okay, so yeah, that was breaking news this morning as I was trying to get out the door to take my kids to school, And honestly, I have to admit I kind of saw it coming. Um. I had heard that there was some they weren't re signed to their contract at their record label this fall, and so I kind of thought something like this was coming. Um, And I think they're going out on a good note. I mean, twenty years, it's a long time to be together. But again, I'm not surprised. I kind of think when Dan and Shay started to get popular, which now they're just megastars, I kind of feel like they've filled that place for Rascal Flats, Like I hate to say that there's only one place for someone to sort of sound like that, But I don't know how you feel about it, but that's kind of how I feel. And then since then, we've kind of seen like a decline of Rascal Flats popularity on the radio. Um, but I mean, I love them and I think that they're especially their older music is, you know, something what I grew up listening to in college in high school, So I don't always have a little special place in my heart. But I can't say I was very surprised. Are you saying that was in fighting with the guys? Is that what I'm hearing you saying? What are you saying there was fighting with the three guys? Are you saying that? I don't think that there was fighting, And I just I just think that maybe they were just kind of already. I mean, when you do something like if you go to a job every day for twenty years, you know, maybe you kind of get sick of it. I don't know, I love my job so much, so I don't look at it as a as a job that I get sick of. But maybe it just kind of became they felt like they did what they could do and they're going to move on. But I mean I've seen a couple of people joke online like Rascal Flats Reunion Tour, you know. So, I mean, who knows, maybe they'll get back together in a couple of years and we can relive all those hits together. But I just had a feeling it was coming. I definitely don't think they were fighting. I was making a joke with that. And also I know a couple of them pretty well. I think you're onto the They have a lot of other interests right now. I think that you know, Jay has got his own record label going. He's spending a lot of time doing that, developing artists. Gary's target hunting and building a moving company. Uh. And so yeah, they've they've I think they've run their course at their label, and you know what, they will reunite in a few years and they'll make a much more money. And they got a bunch of money. If you're not loving it in your set, why would you keep going? Yeah, I agree, I mean they can walk away from it and know that, you know, they're leaving out on a high note. Good for them, all right. With any award show, unless I know the people, I kind of lose interest quickly. And it's the weirdest one. It is because I mean, they're sitting around here and it's it's kind of weird. We'll start with the big ones here and Best Motion Picture Drama. The big one. It was nineteen seventeen, The Irishman Joker, Marriage Story and Two Popes. Now I did see The Irishman Joker and the Two Popes? Did you see all five of them? I haven't seen the Two Popes? And nineteen seventeen hasn't had a full release yet. It comes out Friday. Okay, So, but you saw a marriage story? Did you like it? I like going a lot, but I like it. I think he would is very dramatic and it's real. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver just have skipped over it so many times because I'm like, I haven't been divorced. I haven't either, but I'm also not catholic. Did you didn't watch Two Pokes and loved it? And this it's um nonfiction. With some fiction. I would watch the movie and then google what's real and what is it because they don't hide what they're not making a movie and then getting caught not telling the truth. But they also intersplice some real the Pope because it's the story, because what happened to Pope Benedict stepped down and Pope Francis took over, and they didn't like each other, especially from the beginning. Pope Francis like, take me out of the running, and Bennedett got it. And then when Bennedict was like, I gotta step down, a lot of the sexual abuse stuff was going on. There's a lot going on, and that's not why I said he stepped down, but you know, you can read about it. Pope Francis was like, I don't want to be the Pope. I don't I don't think I deserve you the pope, and they made him the pope. Crazy story great. I love the two popes. It's a lot of talking back and forth and couldn't be seen as boring if you're not dialed in and like that. I'm not Catholic, so it wasn't that for me. But I thought it was really good. Anthony Hopkins plays the Pope Benedict's awesome. Yeah, um so okay, Marriage Story. Give it out of five stars. Um, i'd say four to five. Two Popes, I give it four out of five. The Joker, I give a five out of five great and give it four out of five is good. It was real good to me, it wasn't great. Did we watch it together? Okay, the Irishman, that's a three and a half, very long. I give it four. I would almost go to four and a half. But I did watch it in two parts. And I love movies that have history in it and I can learn because I didn't know if people were I didn't know either. Yeah, because the main character, not the guy who was doing the killing, but the Jimmy Hoffa. I don't know any about Jimmy happen now I do. He led the team stores, he led the union, was also doing mob stuff. Um. But but I like all these that I've seen. I liked it one. Yeah that's crazy, and I haven't seen it. You haven't seen it. It's a warm movie, like all in one continuous shot World War One. Yeah, they shot the holding one shot the whole movie, the whole movie. I mean, I think they like found a way to edit it together, but it's you never see a cut away, so the whole thing is just one continuous shot. That's cool. I wonder when the whole movie will be made with the iPhone. I've had that idea, like like Apple will pay for movies to be shot with with iPhone vertically. I would love it, and not even just vertically, just shoot a sideways. But they can just say we shot the whole movie on Apple Plus with iPhones. People have done that with music videos, but I haven't seen anything with movies yet. Best Performance by an Actress an emotion picture. Um. The winner was renee Zelwigger for Judy. Everybody loves it that's seen it, yeah, Um, Soul Johanson and Merrit Story didn't. Cynthia Rebo and Harriet didn't. Win and Charlie Stare on a bomb show. What you tried to go see but it was sold out? I ended up to get to see it, but I had in a weird seat. What do you think It's hard to like that movie because what it's about. Yeah, and I didn't think it was done particularly well. Well, I didn't love it. No acting is really good, but just the way they set it up, it could have been better. Best performance by an actor Joaquin Phoenix and Joker one. I have no problem with that. He was great, and especially for what he was trying to do. I feel like he nailed what he was trying to nail. Uh. Jonathan Price from the two popes who played Pope Francis look just like him too, just like him? Adam Driving Merrit story didn't win Antonio Banderia's Painting Glory Christian Bale Ford versus for Ari. Did you see that one? Yeah? Did you like it? It's good? I had a friend that saw it instead. It was just fantastic. I don't I have no interest, but maybe I should. I think you would like it, yea, But yeah, Walking Phoenix for Joker. Everybody stood up and clapped in gave a standing ovation except for Beyonce. Did you see that? It sort of follow up as to why, and she didn't make a statement why. They were just speculating Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. Your nominees were Dolomite is My Name, which I see on my Netflix all the time with Eddie Murphy and it's based on a real story. I didn't have to watch some of these movies. It pops up and I'm like, I have to get rid of the because it's on Netflix. It sucks. Right after I have to get they're putting out good movies now Jojo Rabbit. Do you know what that is? It's a like a comedy with like Nazis Knives Out. You saw that. I haven't seen it. Oh yeah, I thought you went to see Knives Now once part of Time in Hollywood and Rocket Man once Part Time in Hollywood. One. I thought it was pretty good. I love that one law it's three hours three long. I thought Brad Pitt was great in it, probably the start. Yeah, yeah, I thought his character allowed you to like him more. I don't know who's acting was better, because they they were both playing these characters. But I thought Brad Pitt's character was such a likable, hard working, kind of fun guy who's just appreciated being there. So I thought his character was built to like him more. But yeah, it was great. He was great. I liked a movie. It was just I watched that one in once one setting though, were the irishman I split into. Maybe I would have liked once a Part of Time in Hollywood if I watched it in two parts. But I liked it. And Charles Manson's in that for a second, and the hippie girls Hot or Not had armpit hair. Did you notice that? Yeah? Best performance by an actress in a motion picture of musical comedy Aquafina. That's her name? That like the Water? Yeah, she named herself after the water. Huh, good for her. Did you ever see a farewell? Best performance by an actor? Tarn Eagerton and rocket maner to say his name? Do you like rocket Man? No? I didn't watch it because everybody was like, it kind of sucks because it wasn't and they were comparing it to Freddie Markeury movie. It came out like what it was like the next big biopick after that, and I didn't even like it. Best performance by an actor and supporting role Brad Pitt Wins. One time in Hollywood we talked about that music from was from the Joker. I dont see the guy's name. I thought there was. I try to wipe off the dirt on the screen. But his name just has a lot of it has a weird, weird accenting accents over them. Best. Okay, let's get to some the television stuff. Your television limited series Catch twenty two, Chernobyl, The Loudest Voice, unbelievable Listen. Chernobyl was great. Did you ever watch Chernobyl? Like TV shows where I started to dial in and go, man, this is my spe I'm gonna do Bobby's TV Bobby Podcast. Chernobyl was great and true. I love true. I like to be entertained and learned at the same time, because even if I'm not super entertained and I'm still learning a fel like, I'm still in And even if it just gives me two roads to enjoy, and if one of them falls off a little bit, it's like the two Popes. Some of it is a bit fictional, but some loly I'm entertaining. I'm still in and even if it's if it's true and I'm not as entertained. I'm like, oh, but I'm learning, I'm still in or catching I love the Two Roads or walk Down. Um. Michelle Williams wins Best Director of from nineteen seventeen. I'm just looking at it. I don't care about this other stuff, you know. Best Original Song I'm Gonna Love Me Again from Rocket Man. I don't know what that is. Best Television Series, Fleetbag one again. I saw The Marvelous mist Masal nominated it and I started that, except I started in season three. Just pushed play. I'm like, I'm finally gonna watch it, and I pushed play and watch two episodes. I was like, I don't get it. I'm lost. They kind of started in a weird place. And then I was telling my friend. I was like, how did you like the show? Because she's like opening for this and he's like, no, dude, you started season Um. Best Screenplay Quentin Tarantino for Once upon a Time in Hollywood. I thought his speech was funny because he was like, well, on paraphrase, I don't know who to thin because I wrote it all myself. Very awkward guy. Um, there you go. Anything you'd like to say about the oscars um but yeah, the nomination was coming out of the Golden Globes. I'm sorry and clothes. People always say that they like predict like or like an indicator who's gonna win an oscar and be nominated? But I think it's just set up so differently that I'm curious to see. Wouldn't come out next week Who'll be nominated? And Ricky gervass Is opening monologue. I thought it was great. He had a great line about him Leonardo DiCaprio about him going to the premiere of Once U final time in Hollywood and by the time it was over, his day was too old for him. He went. After that, I thought, too, where he goes, don't make you political speeches. Don't get up him make a political speech because uh and he shouts at Apple. He's like, Apple, you're doing you know, you got a show about doing right integrity, but you got sweatshops in China with kids, And he's like, if Ice has had a stream and siderce, you'd all be calling the agents. I thought that was pretty good and pretty right on. Have you seen the Morning Show? Yeah? You like it? Yeah, I think it's I don't know, it feels like it's too dramatic. But yeah, it's very dramatic. Um. I because I work in TV and if working a prompter a lot, they kind of suck at doing the TV part of it, like they kind of suck his news anchors. But I thought the show was pretty good. Another thing annoyed me was I feel like they used big words in places they didn't have to, Like sometimes they just use big words to seem smart when they didn't have to. Who's the guy that writes all that stuff? Who's a great writer and he's known for writing really smart No, just in general, he writes all those shows he used to write, like, um, Sunset Square, that show that he wrote, like, I don't know who cares. But he taught a class two in one of those where you can take the lessons. Yeah you did. But it felt like a show that where he was a writer. Um, which means nothing because I couldn't tell you who it is. But yeah, I didn't like it though, Like I did like it a lot. I thought Steve Correll was low key the star of the show. Really. I thought he played that Matt lower type character so good and at times you were torn and you're going huh. Mostly you weren't, but at times you kind of were. But he's like, I didn't break the law, and then being but I thought he was. He did. There's only a couple times where I felt it was Michael Scott when he would laugh cut if you go, and I would hear Michael Scott in him. But yeah, I thought I would give it four out of five stars. The show that is weird. I didn't see him as Michael Scott at all, and that I watched The Office every day in my last year, I think at some point, but he didn't love it. Huh. See who teaches that writing class on online? Because I need to say who it is? And maybe he wrote west Wing. If you say it, I'll know who it is. So um and yeah, the oscars come out that the monologue was. I think that's it. Yeah, I think that's who it is. What else has he written? Uh, let's see comes up as the west Wing? Yeah? Anything else? As you say that. I watched the Kevin Hart docuseries. Did you watch that? I haven't seen any I know good The news Room, Yes, that's it, it's him, it's him. The news Room was so good. It was one of the guys from dumba dumber when he was the anchor. It was so good. Yeah. Yeah, it felt like an Aaron Sorkin where you write the people a little smarter than they probably are. Did he write the Studio Sunset strip show It's there? Oh yeah, it's on here. He also wrote the Social Network, the movie Yeah Wow, and a Few Good Men. He wrote that movie too. I should have known his name just out of respect and money Ball. That's a good one. The Kevin Hart documentary is good, and in that they talked about him getting fired from the Oscars. He talks about it happens while they're doing the show. It's why they start the show. They're like, He's like, oh my god. And then he also, in the middle of shooting it gets caught cheating on his wife and that's a whole episode where he like calls all his boys in and they're like, what happened? How did this get at? It's a whole it's good. There's no stand up in it, so there's no comedy straight straight yeah, like as reality as it will be there, like not reality, like very cavaliery, which is all fake. I mean I see them shooting around that show. I is so fake. It's all scripted. It's so fake, it's so dumb. But if you like that, good for you, as long as you know that it's there's not an ounce of truth in that show. But that's a lot of those shows like that, those thirty minute people that used to be on Jiguna Beach or what's it calling, yeah, jiggoon not an idiot, the ELM, the j I think. I think I'm a little turned around. Yeah, um, but it's it seems pretty real because it gets really uncomfortable and the text he's I think the cameras like there when he gets the Texas like oh yeah, and his PR person is talking with them, They're like, dude, you screwed and he's like, I'm not apologizing. This is during that the Oscars. It's good. Just check it out. You would like it. I like it. I watch um all right, I think that's it. Anything you want to say about the Oscars, I know I had you on something before you jumped. Oh no, I'm just looking forward. I really want Joaquin Phoenix to win for Best Actor, like I think he will. I hope he does. He will, And he's also the Joker made a bunch of money and he's the critics pick, and he gets skinny for roles, and he does all the extra things. I think he has all of those things. He's like Luke Combs. Isn't country music now what you're talked about a bit earlier, But like normal folks like him, contemporary, like the people that are like bring Country's back, like them, Like everybody likes him. He checks off all of the boxes on who's gonna vote for him, because usually there's a part of a box that nobody like. Who. You know, it's not traditional enough country, I'm not gonna vote for him. Who? So, uh, Walking Phoenix checks all those commercially viable and it's super cool too, you know, the snobby voter. So I say you, when I put money on that, that's probably the betting up. I guess they're not nominated, and I'd just like to see m Adam Sandler to get a nomination. Yeah, that would be awesome. I mean you had snubbed from the Golden Globe. Did you like the movie? Yeah, that's the one I want to see right now, uncut gems right. Well, I like it because I love sports, I love gambling. I love Adam Sandler, but he's not playing Adam Sandler. He's playing a straight ahead gotten. There's glimpses of like old Squadam Sandler and it like just his laugh, kind of like you said about Steve Carell. You're like, oh, yeah, it's Adam Sandler. But then once it gets into it's like whoa this dude and tense. Thank you guys for hanging out. It's been episode to twenty um.
