Happy Halloween, everybody. Welcome to this Halloween edition here of four Finger Discount Extra here on the four Finger Discout Network. I am your host, Brendan Dando. I hope you're all having plenty of treats and enjoying many, many episodes of Trios of Horror, and it's exactly what we're going to be doing here today on four Finger Discount Extra. I have been joined once again by my man, Elliott J. O'Neill from the Simpsons Index podcast. You can find the link for all of these podcasts in the description of this pod. And since it's Halloween, we thought we'd go back and discuss our favorite horror parodies into Simpsons, and we've got a bit of a mixed message. He we discussed best parodies, he went with best parodies in horror have best horror parodies in the Simpsons, so it's a little bit of a mismatch there. He does a couple of ones that are not horror based, but you know, basically we're covering the best parodies mostly in the Treos of Horror franchise, because for many of us who grew up in the nineties, the Treos of Horror series was the series that introduced many of us to horror. You know, I didn't know what The Shining was. I didn't know what Nightmare and Elm Street was, And as we discussed in this pod, I still haven't seen The Shining, and either is Alliot, and I think there's probably many Simpsons fans out there who haven't seen it because it's like, well, I've seen The Shitting and it's such a great parody. I don't need to see The Shining. I don't know. I know there's fans of The Shining at there saying no, no, Dana, you definitely need to watch that movie, and I will one day, but I just haven't watched it yet. Of course, I've seen the night Maro Nol Streets franchise, because we all have a bit of our Freddie Krueger of Anyway, before we get into today's show, I just wanted to remind you guys that if you do enjoy everything we do here, add four finger discount across how many shows across the network, you can support us on Patreon for as little as just the dollary do per month. Everything goes a long way to keeping the lights on here at the network. But of course on our Patreon, you get access to things like our exclusive King of the Hill podcast, our Talking Signed podcast, our exclusive Futurama podcast. You Guys podcast has also returned with my former co host Mitch. But you also get access to our discord, our Facebook community, and so much more just for as little as one single dollar we do per month because I can access to exclusive stuff on our Patreon. But of course we are not here to talk about Patreon. We are here to talk about the best horror parodies in the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. So let's sit back and enjoy my conversation with one Alliot Joe O'Neill from the Amazing Simpsons Index podcast. So we're recording this on Halloween Eve. Mister O'Neill, what are your plans for Halloween this year? I'm going to see Sparks at the Sydney Opera House. Do you know the band Sparks. I do not know the band Sparks. No, they are not that spooky at all. But Edgar Wright did a documentary on them few years ago now came out during Lockdown. But yeah, it's just this band that have been around since I think the late sixties. It's this brother duo and h This documentary just details this band that like almost broke through the big time but always like had a pretty sure footing in mostly the English music scene, but incredibly prolific, like something ridiculous like thirty odd albums. And there was a stretch recently where they played a different album in full every night at the London Hammersmith, I believe. And yeah, they just insanely talented musicians. And yeah, since that documentary became one of my favorite bands. So yeah, into entertaining the trick or Traders and then shooting out to the Opera House for a very non thematic concert. I was gonna say, you one of those guys that just tries to avoid the trick or treats, gonna say, are you doing this to avoid the trick or treating? No? I love it. I love it so much like Halloween is a holiday I can really get behind because we didn't get it as kids. That's why, you know. Yeah, fully, it's like finally, you know. Yeah, And I always sort of lived in semi rural areas where just going trick or treating was just impractical, like it'd be snatched. Yeah, exactly, all walking five kilometers to go to three houses, none of neew oh, it's the thirty first of October and halla, what you say is actually tobias fully fully but yeah, so yeah, when I moved into yeah, a more dense area, yeah, I embraced it fully. And at my previous house in Castle Hill, a huge suburban area, like every Halloween we'd get like over three hundred kids coming by our house. Yeah, it was so cool, and they'd put in a lot of effort, and I don't know, maybe it was like two hundred kids, and like one hundred were really savvy and realized I have the memory of a goldfish. So they could drop by, changed costumes, vand the corner and came back exactly, No, because I know kids do that more often, just have like costumes that it's practical to easily get changed out of and go in the corner, get changing and come back again again with the amount of kids that pass through, I wouldn't have known. I'd seen so many costumes that it all becomes a blur. And yeah, I was one of those yeah full candy bar houses as well. And one year I went to way too much effort and did like little lollibags as well, with like, yeah, a couple of things and like a little toy that will break in like five seconds. But yeah, I really get into it. Now that I've moved into like closer to the city, I'm sort of like on the outskirts of the Sydney City. Yeah, I'm expecting a big one this year as well. And yeah, now that we're out of the lockdown years, Yeah, I'm really excited this year. Where we live is like the golf course of the state, right And for some reason, I don't know why they do this, but they block it off so that kids who aren't from the estate coun come in, so it's like the estate only trick or treating. I guess they just I don't know why they do this, but they trying to keep like a communal kind of feel here. It's nice because you always see the same kids and it does sort of I know, I don't agree with it, but also I can see the positives because it helps you sort of meets your neighbors. Yeah, yeah, no, that's good. So yeah, you guys have been there for a while. You guys get into it as well. Well, we've been here for nine years and they only did the I feel chicken treating has only really taken off the last three or four, don't you think, like probably taken off pretty COVID. There was a couple of years COVID that we shall never speak of that again. That was like three years of her life we didn't get back. If you pretend COVID ever happened, I reckon it's been like five or so years where like trick or treating has been an actual thing. I love it, and the kids love it. They're really excited to get dressed up. I think because I've got two small kids, I use them as an excuse to sort of get into it as well. Yeah, but do you have like a Halloween tradition? Because people listening to this, I'm dropping this on actual Halloween the thirty first of what to what's your Halloween tradition? Because for me, I always drop a couple of treouse of Horrors. Yeah, i'dn't even thought about that. I like, I've gotten a projector and thought, oh maybe yeah, while the trick of trading's happening, I'll like play Treehouse of Horrors and just hanging out at the front of my house. And then like we're not on the last pod. Yeah, oh yeah, that's right, and yeah with the Gory Pod, and it's like, actually, that's probably not a great idea. Some of those segments can get a bit grim, and you know, as much as yeah, we like to embrace the spooky on Halloween, and there's still a few kids out there who it's quite confronting for still, Like, if you haven't checked out our previous conversation for Halloween episodes, we a couple of weeks ago we did the gorious deaths, you know, almost gruesome deaths in Triosophia, which is a lot of fun. But today we're going to be covering just the best Simpsons horror parodies. And it doesn't necessarily mean in tries of horror, although ninety five percent of them are in trios of Horror for obvious reasons. But there's been some horror parities throughout the show as well that I want to touch on. But yeah, so what was the first one that springs to mind for you when you think of Simpson's horror parodies? What's the one that's immediately when you say simpsons horror parodies come straight to your mind? My notes here, I've just written, obviously, the best is the Shinning, Like most of us, the most popular is the Shinning. Is it the best though? I think? I mean, of course I'm going to be coming at it not having what the shining still and actually having not watched a lot of the source material for a lot of these, but I mean as far as like a well realized parody and like because especially if you listen to the commentaries and whatever they're talking about the shots that you know, they were trying to replicate with Kubrick's thing and like Kubrick's particular like view of like a really introducing perspective into a shot and how he frames things, and they were really doing a lot of effort to yeah, imitate that style and everything. I think that's I think that's another one where like it's you know, when you go to a museum and you see a piece of art and like, what the fuck's this? Then you read the plaque and it becomes that much more impressive. Like this is one especially that benefits from yeah, checking out the commentaries, kept checking out the supplemental feat probably checking out the movie itself as well. But I think it's just does what a good Simpsons parody should do is, yeah, recast the Simpsons so as these characters, but they still feel like the Simpsons. You know, it's not being the Jack Nis character. It's still horrmer. It's just that they're yeah, they're meeting them halfway right, one hundred percent. The thing is, you watch the shitting right now. I think there's many Simpsons fans out there who have gone, I don't need to watch the Shining. I've seen the Shinning. It's the same shit, Yeah exactly. It's seven minutes versus two hours. Yeah, you just feel like you've seen the movie because you've seen the shitting. Because you're watching you're like, if this is a not beat for beat ripoff of it or parody of it, it's like, well, I know the ending now, but you're you're right there with the visuals and things like that, and it's all subjective though, Like when I was asking the question, is it the best. It probably is the best in the sense that it's the most popular, and it's the one that seems to sort of spring to mind because it's got a great comedy with the no TV, no beer, they home with something something, So they took something that was so iconic and simpsonized it. But they did it so many different times throughout the throughout the segment, like the whole year. But they did the David let him in David Grandpa, Yeah, which was a great callback to the opening shot of that they left grab By behind, you know. Yeah, it was just it's so funny that segment. I'm glad we got that one. I had the way first because that is the most iconic him. I'm doing the currently on the Facebook page the best Treance of Horror segments, and it looks like the Shitting's going to win it, win it by a long marger. So I think next year we're going to do is the Shitting's are going to be out of it, and then we'll have the contest again and then we'll have the win the victor of that one versus the Shinning. Yeah. I still think the Shitning will probably stillin thee seems to be the one that everyone remembers and loves the most, isn't it. Yeah? Absolutely, But like the other thing is, like over my Patreon page for my Simpsons podcast, we review the DVD box sets and the bonus features there in and we were surprised because, like in the atomatic or storyboard version of this, like there was this running John Denver gag that got cut. Like I think there's like a remnants of it still in there, but it was just this repeated gag and just like the basic punchline was that John Denver sucks, like and it was just this really interesting thing and just goes back to the sort of doomsday process that the Simpsons hauld go through to really refine their episodes and make them funny on every single repeat, because yeah, they've talked about in the past. You know, if it wasn't funny on the thirtieth time, you know, we cut it. And that's I think what makes the Shinning so great, and especially yeah, go back and check out the animatic version and see how much it changed and how tighter it got, because yeah, like we were saying, you know, you're cramming an entire movie into a seven minute segment and Yeah, these sorts of cuts are so necessary, and I think, yeah, having seen that is another reason that the Shinning stands out, because it is just such a tight, funny segment where every bit is necessary. Am I imagining things or because I've watched those delivereds scenes and things so often that they're like in the episode of my mind? Yeah? But is the scene where Home is eating in the fridge and most sends in the guls to drake out is that in the actual episode or was that a deleted scene as well? No, that's in the episode. That was one where I was like, what the fuck actually happened there? Yeah, the universal vers and monsters, I like, for some reason I remember that being like a deleted Is it like an extended version of that scene or something in the deleted scenes? Yeah? Possibly, Yeah, I think so that that was one where I was like, they need a bit more context for this one. But yeah, but yeah, that one is absolutely iconic. And yeah, just you're touching earlier with the shots. I always loved the shot where the kids are running and Mudge running away in the snow. It's like a bird's eye view and you can just see the distance when homies like he's gaining on them. I just thought that was just so scary as a kid, I'm like, holy shit, imagine having to try and run away from this guy who's this monster in snow. Running on sand is bad enough in snow. Yeah, yeah, Oh, they make their sense of danger so great, and like yeah, doing things like imitating the score of the movie as well, like that absolutely epic score. Like all these little touches are just so important, and it's just nice when you sort of see a fandom shine through their work like this, like in the parody form where it's like it's less of parody and more like an homage, you know. Yeah, Now I want to touch on one that's arguably the most iconic horror movie of all time. But these are all from episodes that aren't trees of horror. These a Marges's Psycho Oh right, yeah, so you know Skinner looking at the window and talking to mother in the house, Maggie hitting home with the mallet, that's the most popular one, but the and like the Homer laying and next to the drain with the paint going down the drain, things like that in the garage and the Springfield Files when they play the Psycho music on the bus the orchestra. Yeah, that's right. So yeah, so I just thought we need to acknowledge the ones that aren't and tries of horrors as well, because I think the hom aren't getting hit with the mallet by Maggie that used to get played on all the clip shows as well, and so that I thought that was like one that we had to mention. Was that the Dando origin story as well that got you banned from The Simpsons or we can touch on that one and live well now if you'll like to Bad dream House in the Midiville Horror, which is also I think of take on Poltergeist as well. But Maggie goes to the kitchen and gets the knife out of the drawer and that's what Yeah, no, I am actually thinking. I think I'm thinking of another friend who the hammer scene from yeah March versus Itchy and Scratchy. So it's prisoner than now living in Yeah, that's it. It's the direct line from The Simpsons to there like yeah, so yeah, yeah, Psycho argue with the most iconic horror movie of all time, so worthy even mentioned. But yeah, so Bad dream House is another one in the Midivill Horror. That's a good parody as well. You watch. I appreciate that one a lot more as an adult because it's not necessarily gory. I think I enjoyed as silly as it sounds. As a kid, I enjoyed sort of like the violence sort of side of things, which treos of horror, but just things like The Raven and Bad dream House. I appreciate a lot more as a good older now. The Raven is, yeah, one is a kid, where like I'd even be annoyed that that one came on as one hundred percent I was like, what is this? Yeah, but no, as an adult, it's like it is such a well formed, like it's it's not even really a parody, isn't It's just like almost as like just it is the Raven. It's it's barely like the Simpsons in it, Like, yeah, Homer certainly doesn't talk like that. But I did love the shot of Marge with the hair with the paintings that it needs an extra picture for Marge's hair. Yeah, that's it. But they introduced like little Simpsons things into it, like yeah, the Bart Raven itself like being a bit like barti ish, but yeah, that one introduced like what a swing introducing Edgar Allan Poe to a bunch of an audience, who a cartoon watching audience, And we don't give the Simpsons or like now, actually we do, we give we give them enough credit for introducing kids to you know, the most kind of things are pop culture, like Edgar Allan Poe. But it felt like in that first Treeouse of Horror they weren't really sure that he'd go full gore and violence, doesn't it because none of the segments are that violent. No, no, And and like you said with Bad dream House, it's more about the dread and the fear of what might happen, and then hungry are the damned? It's yeah, the alien thing, which just ends up being a massive subversion, and yeah, the raven thing is yeah, more another dread thing. Yeah yeah, So there's no actual violence really in that first one. It's just the fear of But what's another one you wanted to touch on? Well, yeah, you're mentioning Psycho before just trailing on from the Hitchcock references. I think I brought this up in the last one as well. So it's from Treehouse of Horror twenty it's one of my I think probably my favorite most modern Treehouse of Horror segment is dial m for murder or press hash to return to the main menu. This is a parody of strangers on a train, but it's Bart and Lisa doing each other's murders for you know, miss Hoover and Miss Crabapple respectively. Lisa misinterprets and she just thought, because Bart says, yeah, we'll just didn't ditch them and he means kill, she just thought, you know, do a knock and run sort of prank on them, and so yeah, Bart comes back with missus Hoover's head and she's like, oh, what the fuck and he's like, hey, now you have to do my murder you. And I think this is just like a really well done parody, especially like the whole thing's in black and white. We're talking about score again as well. It's a real Hitchcock esque score, and you know, if you want Hitchcock references as well, they have this chase scene which is just basically them running through a bunch of Hitchcock references, which I don't know, you can probably take as lazy or whatever, but I think it's a really loving tribute and it's just such a well realized script and the story is great, Like it's one of these things where, yeah, they get the main beats of the movie and condense it down into a really compelling segment. And yeah, I honestly say, I don't really recall that one. Or does she accidentally kill bat at the end? Yeah, yeah, so I think at the end of the chase scene there's an accidental decapitation and then crab Bubble's like, ah, finally, and then Lisa's like, oh, I meant to do that the whole time. It does one of those sort of hokey endings, but yeah, yeah, but it sounds great. You have to go back and a visit that when I can't even when I did my research for the gory deaths, somehow missed that one. Yeah, Like Treehouse of Honor at twenty I think it's final segment lets it down. It's like a Sweeney Todd parody with Mo and Homer's no business like Mo business. Yeah yeah, So, like Homer dies in his basement hooked up to a bunch of beer things, but then he finds the beer actually makes his Homer's blood makes the beer taste nice, and especially Marge loves it and then falls in love with Mo. But there's this weird musical segment in it where Mo makes the excuse for Homer's death that he left Marge to go be gay, and it just it's screaming twenty years ago. Yeah, actually does have one of one that I really enjoy as well as don't have a cow mankind. Yeah, yeah, I think I brought that up as an ooral, but we'll mention in the gory ones as well. That's such a good zombie parody. Yeah, that's a takeoff. It's just any zombie movie, but I think more twenty eight days later, right, that's more, Yeah, more in that sort of yeah feel, And yeah, it's so much different from the zombie segment from the classic eras. And yeah, definitely well worth checking out twenty like one hundred percent. Yeah, another non treus of horror when they wanted to touch on was now it's not necessarily a horror movie, but it gives you horror vibes. Is Cape Fear. Yeah, it's true because obviously the take off of the film, but also the acknowledgement of Homer with the hockey mask. Yeah, Jason bade style just that Friday the third series just made hockey masks so terrifying, didn't they. Yeah, Yeah, I was surprised because, yeah, I watched Friday the thirteenth for the first time, like a decade and a half ago. The hockey mask isn't even in the first one. It's not in until the fourth one. I believe, Wow, because was it a third one. That's a third one. It's a third one, yeah, because the second one is just Jason with a bag over his head. Yeah right. It's just weird because it's such an iconic bit of you know, a horror costume. You know, there's always going to be a trick or trader doing the Hockey Master. It's an easy one to throw together as well. Yeah. I took a treat to once rocked up and the mum was just there with a kid, but she had this like old look and cart again on She's like, I'm Jason's mother, and I'm like, that's a kick ass glows gym Jason's mother. But she had like basically like the it was like a sweater. Her head was in the sweater, but had like a de captain and headlock hanging off the side. Oh that's good. Oh that's very good. But yes, also yeah, so Cape Fear just in itself, the film not a horror film, but it's it's pretty scary. Oh yeah, oh god, is it not a horror? I guess it's more of a thriller, like it's a psycho thriller. I guess you could say, yeah, yeah, yeah, just one of my favorite movies growing up as well, and like totally because of Cape Fear the Simpsons, Like was watching that and I think, yeah, my dad goes, oh, we've got the VHS of that. Yeah, and absolutely scared the piss out of me. I don't know what he was thinking showing me that movie, but like, do you look back at EA childhood sometimes and go what were my parents thinking? Oh? One hundred percent? Like I remember watching RoboCop from an early age, you know, like Kinney's Death. Yeah, no, seriously, Like Dada introduced me to South Park as well, Like he came, he like came into the rooms, like you've got to check out this cartoon, switches it to SBS. It's like there's a singing Christmas poove. We got to watch this. I remember when this isn't wasn't South Park. It reminded me of what my dad introduced me to, something not introducing but like allowing me to get swearing. It was the Offspring's Americana album Oh yeah, being insanity and the girl by the Canna's like just letting you know. It's got a warning course language sticker. And here I was clearly like ten, not even ten, and Dad's like looked at me, looked at the girl, looked back at me, and he's like, don't tell your mother. Yes, oh that rules. But yeah, what were we touching? Ok? Fear because it's almost like the shinning of Nontreos of Horror, isn't it, where it's just a beat for beats sort of take off of the film, but in a real Simpsons style. Yeah, well, I mean the actual Cape Fear is so much more grim, and I feel like that they still like have the appropriate amount of levity throughout the Cape Fear episode, and it's setting the precedent that Yeah Sidechho Bob's like theme music is the Cape theme music as well, And yeah, just doing again all those shots, all the score and just doing the right amount of imitation to show love and reverence towards this thing. Because it's a score sazy as well, isn't it that? Yeah, sure is. And like you read the opening line, it's like in prison for raping a young girl, and you're like, oh shit, yeah yeah, so obviously that I thought the way the Simpsons handled that was so good that you're saying that the music, you hear that music and you think of Sijo Bob, but it's not said Jo Bob's music. It's the Cape thear music exactly exactly. But also about Kelsey Grumm did to show how talent he is, like with the singing at the end with the Pinafore and things like that, Like what an episode, What a wild left turn for that to take? And I know right and again talking about reading the plaque and going back and listening to the commentaries, this was an episode where they were severely under time with it and they had to do a bunch of things in it to extend out the episode. And it's funny because like it's often things that like I'll criticize in new episodes. It's like, Okay, clearly your episode was running short, so you took this gag and you know, stretched it for an uncomfortable amount of time. But this episode like did like the quintessential versions of those things, you know, talking mister Thompson bit and the fucking rate gag, and these are just like amazing, like quintessential Simpsons, but like not the elephants that just unnecessarily drag out the episode, but like they're still so funny and it still feels so tight, Like yeah, it's just the Thompson's in his stuff. It's just such a great gag. You forget how many great gags are in that one episode, like but do with some brands before you go to bed. Yeah, Thompson's the just yeah, unbelievable episode. Yeah, so great, but yeah, still having the fear and dread and still making Sideshow Bob like a really scary villain as well. And yeah, I think he's the scariest in that episode, don't you think? Oh yeah, I think everything else is. Yeah, it's definitely way more sillier or it's just fleeting super villain he like from a comic book as opposed to like this guy looks like he just wants to kill this kid. Yeah, yeah, because yeah, Krusty gets Bustard. It's barely like any of that side of side show Bob in it and then Black Widow yeah as well. We don't even get a glimpse of it until the end. We're sort of led to believe he's rehabbed and everything. Yeah, well a crust the guests bust is more of just like a mastermind who not necessarily wants to kill, just wants to get back at somebody. Yeah, that's it. It's not until Cape Fear that he turns and is yeah, starting to send letters in blood like oh, we could die bad die as well, yeah exactly, which, Oh, I'm learning German at the moment, because yeah, I'm going to Germany next year. I've found out like di e is like because some languages have like masculine and feminine sort of languages. Yeah, that's the German the for a feminine article, which it's even funny for masculine. Yeah. Yeah, I was just a lie and it's like, oh wow, even yes, thirty some years later, I'm still getting new things out of this episode. That's goodread. Thing about it though, is it's just like, as a writer of The Simpsons, you'd be like, well, he was just improving on the spot. Yeah. Yeah, And the people in Spirit are so stupid they didn't realize exactly. Can we talk about one that's just going a lot further in the contest we're doing on the Facebook page. And I thought, And then I look back at the segment, I was like, I can see why. It's the child's play parody of clown without pity. Yeah, right, I, as a kid used to be genuinely scared from this one. It's not necessarily any like Gore in it that I can recall, but just the idea of toys coming to life and trying to kill you, Yeah, and no one believing you. That's the no one believing you that that someone's trying to kill you, That would be the most terrifying part. Yeah. But it's like the doll's trying to kill me in the tops has been laughing at me. That's a joke that just slip under the vade up for me for seventy years, and when I was older, I was like, holy shit, I need to go back. Did he just say that? Yeah? Well, I mean yeah, because it's Homer and he's so silly and like yeah, yeah, like crusty doll appearing in the bath and then him running through naked and how great is that? Uh and yeah, yeah, you're right, and like when he eventually does, like it is apparent that oh yeah, the doll is trying to kill him and and like he's just choking him, Like it's just it's so sinister and his teeth like the little pointy, crusty teeth. Yeah, yep. And such a clever but simple ending too, you got this thing set to evil. Yeah, there's no sort of like you know, possessed anything like that. It's just no, he'll set to evil. Yeah, just and one of those like almost a fuck your ending, But also like it it's so inherently funny, like why was this even a setting? Like I know, right, and that also gives us the that's good, that's bad? Yeah, oh true, I want Yeah, is that a specific parody of something? Kind of? I think it's just that them padding out a it seems like something that sort of they riffed in the writer's room, know, like this is too funny to not put in, even though it doesn't have any like parody or any reference to Charles play. Yeah, Like I think it is like a bit of a trope as well, like the you know, the item will carry a terrible because I mean We see it in the like Monkeys Poor episode as well, which is just, yeah, why do you even have this on sale if there's a Well, he always reminded me of the guy from Gremlins. Yes, he's the rules kind of thing, and I know the guy has actually say those in the actual film, but like he was giving me those kind of vibes that still gives me like the vibes from Gremlins. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, So I think that's another thing that I'll touch on, especially later, is just like the general sort of TIChE that they'll do in these Treehouse of Horror segments and yeah, the haunted store clerk, yeah, is definitely one of those. Yeah, what's another one for you? I'm going to see a fucking trail on a segway from that very elegantly, but I think I've ruined that possibility by pointing it out. Actually, yeah, I'll throw out two from Treehouse of Horror ten Desperately Zeking Zena, which is like, I've actually become really fascinated with this like pre MCU superhero parody genre. Like again, to bring up my Patreon, we review movies that star the cast of the Simpsons, and in recent times, we've reviewed both Mystery Men from ninety ninety nine. Gazari is the not the fucking Gluy what was he? He's the Blue Raja, the Blue Raja, that's right, yes, yeah, he has the power to manipulate cutlery and chooses not to use knives. Yes, ayah, very good. And then Superhero Movie, which I surprisingly liked, like in the same like line if you know the Scary movie, Epic Movie and all those pieces of shit. This one was actually surprisingly good. But it was like more of a parody on like Sam Raimi, Spider Man and Fantastic Four, and yeah, similarly, this is a superhero parody coming out before like the MCU would come out and redefine what superhero content was. Also, they saw superhero movies. It's just like kitty stuff, didn't they a lot of the time. It's just if you like superheroes, you were immature where I am in really turned the tables for that, Yeah, absolutely, Well even before that, it was like, yeah, really Tim Burton's Batman, like reimagining Batman as like a gritty, grimy thing. Well it got ruined by the end though, you know, oh yeah, by the end of the nineties, people not have forgoten about those movies, but Batman once again became the cartoony shoemaker exactly. That's got to say, Yeah, I love those movies because I grew up with them, but I can appreciate how people who just who are old enough to enjoy the the visual Batman's would have gone what the fuck is this? Yeah? But yeah, so I really like this one because yeah, it's not doing like a specific parody, Like it's sort of Fantastic fourish in the sense that like it's Barton Lisa who a family getting their superpowers, and Barts like stretchy and Lisa's like strong light the thing. So like, I guess you could call it Fantastic four, but it is like more of a like, yeah, a campy superhero parody where it's just a bit more general And it's another one of these things where I really love the casting off it all, Like with Yeah, comic book guy is the collector, and I think, like, independent of late parody or anything, that's just a very good idea for a horror comic book villain is the obsessive yeah, toy collector with the death at the end as well, exactly, and keeping the actors in mint condition in my liart, Like that is so morbid and like that is such a fucked up thing to do, but like I could imagine like actually happening in a serious horror movie. And but and yeah, comic book guys just commitment to the bit as well, where even in death he wants to do a reference to a thing like stress dudent club a girl. Yeah, that's it and the song is so good. Yeah and yeah, and yeah, I'll throw in a quick side mentioned to the Futurama episode what is It Less Than a Hero where Frian Lela gets superpowers and Bender just joins the group because he can, because he wants to. Yeah that, Like, I know that one gets a mixed reaction because it feels like a non canon episode in a lot of ways, but it's it's such a good episode of Futurama, so fucking funny. Yeah. Treats of Horror ten. Is that the one that had I'm just looking through the three sevements, had the Y two K one, didn't it? Uh? Yeah, yeah, but the first segment of that one, I believe it is, Yes, it is. It's one I wanted to mention. I know what you ditterly Italy did, which is a seventh that I don't think gets talked about anywhere near enough. I always because I am a child with the nineties, so I think we all remember that. I know it did Last Summer franchise right when you were in your nineties kid, This guy with a hook, scary stuff, right, Yeah, you watch it now and it's kind of like, yeah, I can see why people laugh at these films, but there were big films in the nineties, and it was a bit of nostalgia for me when I watched this one, because you don't hear anyone really talking about the I know he did Last Summer Franchise, that all that. Often I feel like we're in You're gonna probably gonna get a reboot soon. You sort of feel like we're in that sort of era of reboots. Thats the film's probably gonna get rebootedbe even like a series even. But I just enjoyed Flanders being the Killer MM, which we hadn't seen up to this point, which I thought it was just a really really unique spin and for some reason, as a kid, Homer singing the guests, if you gud to put the fog arts in absolutely slavy slay me. I think so similar with the Devil and Homer Simpson as well, like recasting, like this opportunity to recast Flanders as these evil characters or villains or whatever, like it does become so much more unsettling, and like some of his mannerisms like really translate and because enjoys it. Yeah yeah, and it's become oh yeah, these same things of this like very wholesome person like could be creepy when you recontextualize it, like yeah, And I apologize listeners, but I still have not watched the Flanders episode, the horror one from a couple of years ago where to take on Fargo. Oh yeah, yeah, a serious Flanders. Any good? I heard it's great. It's a two parter. Again, I think it was like a bit oversold for me because I thought it was fine. But again I don't think it needed to be two parts. But like I do think, I think I do think of modern Simpsons, if something's like pretty good, they oversaw it like it's amazing because they're so used to comparing it to what's been coming. Because there was an era there, say, from like twenty three through to like twenty eight ish where it was just like, it's not that great as it used to be. And as a Simpsons fan, it's okay to acknowledge Simpsons isn't as good as it once was. I do feel the last couple of seasons have been pretty good. You know, I've really enjoyed the last couple of seasons was a serious fans that was about two years ago, right, two or three years yeah, something around there. I think it was a thirty three or thirty two one. Yeah. I think it feels like the ones that are sort of non canon esque seem to be the ones that get the most hype now because they're different. And yeah, like last season, I feel like there was like I think like eight or nine episodes that were like non canon episodes, and it almost feels like the Simpsons rioters are gone. Okay, how do we get the most hype for this show? Let's do ones in a non cannon and ones. It feels like a very special, unique episode because they did so many of them last season. Yeah, and I mean they worked a varying effect. I know that one which is like almost like a clip show with the hackers overtaking. Yeah, least of the boy Scout. I believe that got like a lot of hype. Like I found it like a fucking confusing mess. But like I think the Good Ones podcast really like got behind that one. And yeah, the writer of the host of that podcast did a big article for Vultures, you know, declaring the Simpsons are back and all that fucking bullshit that you get. But I think sometimes and I'd mentioned this on my chat with Warren Butt of Darkness Warren Evans, who's got a new book at the moment about Simpsons merchandise. It's pre order it now, But we're sort of saying, how, you know, I feel like sometimes these super fans or people who do other podcasts or things like that just go a bit over the top because it's like it's like an inn with the show, like it's okay to save in episodes, not that great, you know, and it's not anything You're just gonna be honest, you know, I'll honestly say that, like I watched the new Simpsons and I enjoy them. Are they as good as they once wear? No, let's not go over the top and say, oh, they're back and the greatest thing ever. And it's just like, do you really believe that. Yeah, well, because I mean, Simpson's in the modern age. It's like, I think the writers probably struggle with this, And that's why there's so many of these parody or like non canon event episodes is because I mean it goes back to the Poochy episode. The characters just can't have the impact that they once had, So you know, how do we keep them relevant or how do we keep people excited about the show still? And Yeah, it's doing these extended things that I think, Yeah, is breathing a bit more life into it and giving them something a bit something different to hook their teeth into, which isn't yeah, beholden to any rules or whatever that should stick to the classic episodes. Like there was a recent episode called like My Life as av log which like retold the Simpson story is like as if they were influencers like YouTube stars or whatever like that, and yeah, of course that does not fit in with the cannon, but like, using that format, they were able to do a very unique episode that was yeah told through a series of YouTube videos and like led to some really interesting direction and stylistic choices that yeah, and yeah, similar with them doing the big extended it parody, which I didn't love. But I watched it and I was like, it just feels like I don't know. I watched it and I felt very underwhelmed at the end. Yeah, No, it was just a bit flat. But like I think, like from a stylistic perspective, I think I nailed it. Like I think it looked great. It's like again, the score sounded great. But yeah, just the material itself left me a bit wanting. Yeah. Same, Yeah, that was something I was going to bring up. Oh yes, so, and I hate being it because it makes me stuff. I'm talking myself up. But now, when I went for dinner that time with Matt Salmon and Phil Resenthal Right, So getting back to earlier how you were talking about trying to find ways to seem relevant. We're out dinner and we're sitting down at this place coming on what it's called, and the guy behind the but immediately recognizes the film. He's like somebody if you feel and you don't at the back and gets the chef and stuff. They come out. Theyre talk about and blah blah blah, and he's like, are you are you like the his producer is what he says to Matt, right, and then Phil goes, no, no, he's not not my producer. Do you you watch The Simpsons and the guy go They all go, na, no, I haven't watched it for a long time. Oh and Matt's like, story of my life. Matt's like, yeah, I'll get the chop liver. Thanks. Yeah. It was just like, oh my god, it's PILs and Thor are you the producer? No, No, I work on the Simpsons. Ah, I felt. I just sat in the middle, going, this is let's touch on another one, the one that I absolutely loved as a kid a daughter. I still do it to this day. We touched on it on our previous one with Gory Death's Death. Ah, say, is Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace with Nightmare on Elm Street? Yes, just in particular that opening shot, how it's just what's how would you look watercolor? I guess you could say the backgrounds and things like that. Yeah, there's no outlines, Yeah, yeah, it just it looked immediately, you know, it's something different, and just touched on the Nightmare on Elm Street series the other way it looked, but just the various ways that Willie would kill the kids and things like that. I just it's not necessarily a gory episode, but it's a scary one. Oh yeah, and especially like because we were saying last time as well, when Willie in the dream his tongue wraps around Martin and chokes him like that itself is very goofy, but it's like when it actually cuts to Martin experiencing the death in real life area, Yeah, that's way scarier than actually seeing like, yeah, groundskeeper Willy like probably put his hands around him. And I mean we're desensitized to that. We've been watching Homer do that to Bart for years, but yeah, having him experience it and then no one being able to do anything about it is terrifying. Yeah, I mean the death of Willy is pretty god but they do it in such a funny way that he sort of it takes the the I don't know what's the shock value out of it. You know, this guy's burning to death, Yeah, but actually see him burn to death. We've see him on fire, but when he's actually dying again, you just seen the people look at him with just such disdain as like, why are you interrupting this meeting? Yeah, Kirk needs to talk about the two Spaghetti Dinners come on. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I just I thought that was one that we definitely to measure because it was just so great. I love it. Yeah, well again just recasting the Simpson's characters perfectly. There's I don't think you could have put anyone else besides groundskeeper Willy in that role. And it was like, I don't know, just the threatening Scottish accent to it or all, like it translated perfectly, you know what I was talking about of like taking the characters, taking a source material and finding a way to meet it, like in the middle somewhere, and it was just perfect, like and being able to use the grounds keeper tool sets in his kills as well, the rakes, the lawn mower, all that stuff like it it makes sense to the character and feels like more or less on theme with Freddie Freddy k Krueger as well. It just feels like too that Willy, of all the characters on the show, he seemed to be the one I always wanted to get revenge, Like the world's against him, like you know, it's against Willy, So it felt like he was the perfect fit as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah in Whacking Day as well. Yeah, I'll get you at the first chance I get or whatever. Escape what if they're dead, sir, Actually we should have mentioned at the start because our mayn Matthew Perry passed away yesterday. Yeah ri ip, fuck that. You know, many celebrity deaths that really like affect me. But for some reason, like you know, I felt so sad yesterday. I felt the world was sad, and I get it. Of all the cast members, he's probably the least shocking one to have gone this way, right, and it felt like, you know, this was inevitable in some way. As morbid as that sounds, especially when you read his book or you listen to his audio book and stuff, it just felt like he was such a sad person, which made me feel sad because he's brought so many laughs. But it's like when he passed away yesterday, it just felt like everyone was just like ah, because he was such a big part of our childhood growing up in the nighties, Like Friends was like when it comes to live action shows, so Simpsons was the biggest animation show. It was either Friends or Seinfeld, right, like they were the Simpsons of the sitcom world. Yeah, well, I mean I was actually talking about it. I was doing a stream yesterday with a bunch of people, and like we were saying, yeah, these like like it's perfectly normal to feel like the effect it even though we didn't know them personally and we sort of have these parasocial relationships. It's like, but yeah, when you look at it, like we spend a lot more time with them than we do a lot of people in our lives, and certainly in the case, like I wasn't a big fan of friends or anything, but like when they were always there exactly, and like I love the movies he was in. I was a big fan of Whole nine and Whole ten Yards when I was a kid, and like and when he like fifty four is still young man, and like these moments you're just like I think you still had some gas left in the tank. You know. It's just such a shame. Yeah, what's for the reason I'm sad about it too, is that it like when you realize what Dawns and you are, they can never like do another reunion. Yeah, it's when one's gone. It just feels like the whole thing's gone. And he was to me, we're doing obviously the one about friends podcast, and I'm revisiting the show, and I don't know. Everyone says that Russ and Rachel was the big store worry, but for me, I'm watching all guy. He's like the rock for this show for me, Like he's the one who actually keeps it entertaining. Yeah, yeah, the reliable one, like yeah, the like because I think, yeah, especially because like Joey and Phoebe were sort of a bit more out there characters as well, and like he was more of like the audience conduit in a lot of ways. Yeah, he was the most relatable for me. We'll go back to visiting it now as like a thirty five year old. He's definitely the most most relaitable. But I want to touch in him because he makes an appearance in House of Wax. Was it actually him? Is it not him? Oh? I just assumed it. It was like they like certain it was him, right, were doing the review for it. Le's go House of Wax. It's the takeoff of Demoncy. That's what the episode to take off of. Yeah, Matthew Perry as Matthew Perry. Oh that is so cool. I had no idea. Yeah, but yeah, sorry. Just to bring it quickly back to the Simpsons, because you know, yeah, he's the first of the six Friends to pass. But like, yeah, we haven't had to have that conversation about like the core six cast for his cast of The Simpsons yet, Like yeah, that's immediately what I thought of him, Like, wow, it feels like I've lost a member of the Simpsons cast because it's going to happen in probably in the next ten years, you'd think, wouldn't Yeah, I mean I think Harry Shearer is pushing eighty. It is like, yeah, they're they're it's surprising that they're still going, like yeah, and yeah, you do wonder how much the fan backlash would have been a few years ago if one of them passed and they tried to replace them. But you know they were going to do that when Harry Shearer quit the show, so like who knows what they'll do. Yeah, and he quit the show a week before we started the podcast, because our second episode of the podcast we did was who should replace Harry's here? Yeah, thank god he didn't leave the show in the end. But yeah, so it's just him being in House of Wexle. I love House of Wax so good. Another one that doesn't get mentioned anywhere near enough. You know, Pierce Brosna is fan fucking tastic in that episode. Yeah. Oh, like again taking these charming, like good from the outside, you know, characters and then just recontextualizing them, like yeah, it felt like he had a lot of fun doing that voice as well, going a bit more sinister but still doing it in a very pierced Brosman way. I think is Yeah, what I'm trying to get out here, like it is so yum yum yum yum y But yeah, it's a perfect voice for sort of howl because it's like a bit two thousand and one a space odes see, isn't it as well? Yeah, definitely, yeah, But yeah, it's just the idea of like AI scares this right as just the human race, the idea of AI being more powerful than I always it will always terrify us, right terminated in it, you know, But just the idea of being in a house that you want to live intil it's just super convenient, but also that that threat of it could actually turn on you at any second. Yeah, that's exactly I feel like in the next day fifty two hundred years, that's going to be the life we live in. Is just our life will be super convenient thanks to robots and AI, but there's always gonna be a threat that what happens when they turn on us. Yeah, I mean he was hoping they're still too stupid to do it anyway, because like we were having the like I was hanging out with my family on the weekend, and like my brother loves his Google Home, but like just lately, like he'll go, oh yeah, play a playlist of like nineties alternate rock or whatever, and we'll get in a loop of just the same three songs and it's like, Okay, Well, I mean AI, yeah, it's coming for a lot of things, but it's still too fucking dumb to finish us off. I haven't succumbed to things like Google Home and things like that, and I don't think I ever will. I just refuse to. Yeah, I'm just like if I want my TV to turn up, I'll just push the button I want to go, Hey, Google turn up. Yeah exactly. Nah. I mean it was the same when like the Xbox One came out and they were like, oh, all these cool voice features, and it's just like it's easier to press directions and a button. I don't want to talk to it. But my mum she gets her phone out. It's like the idea of the technology is just so standing in that they have they refuse to actually do what they used to do. My Mom's like, what's the number for Gelong Footy Club? I'm not just look it up? Google it? Google? What's the number for Geelong Football Club? No, I don't know, Google, what's the number for Geelong? I'm like, Mom, just fucking type it into Google? Like no, no, no, this works. I'm like, eventually here's what I found on the internet. Ah fuh. But bending back to to see I feel like I may have confused you. So I said horror parodies, but you've just done parodies in treos of horror. Is that's sort of the mindset you've gone with? Yeah, pretty much, but a few of them are horror parodies, Like the other one I wanted to bring up was Fly versus Fly, which is a parody of The Fly, which is like, apparably more so the original not the Uninet and eighties version. Oh is that right? Yeah? Because like if you haven't seen it, yeah, Dave Cronenberg's The Fly is a fucking incredible horror movie, Like Body horror movie, and yeah, Jeff Goldbloom is so good in it, like I think, yeah, it's and again doing the sort of Simpsons thing is sort of taking the general idea and just doing their version of it, Like we're not doing one of these parodies where it's recasting anybody. It's still the Simpsons, but it's just what if the fly happened to them? And so yeah, we start out the segment with a bunch of incredible gags around the teleporter. Homer setting it up, like going to all that effort to set up the teleporter so we can take a piss from the lounge room is just so yeah, so quintessentially Homer. Yeah, it's so good, and I love the punching as well. Yeah. But then yeah, when Bart eventually and yeah, turns the pets into it a cat dog and then just a butt butt that could be leasing like, yeah, another good thing of like taking a very grim prospect of yeah, but accidentally fucking up and himself turning into a fly sized fly and then making a you know, a Bart sized fly in the process, but still having so many great gags around it and still making it a funny segment. Okay, Okay, it's yours sugar, but yeah, I almost love how late the Simpsons just embraced their new flyboy. Yeah. I was like, that's fine, it's like he's and your child. Yeah. Another one that I want to also bring up was we touched on this in our Gory ones with the Frankenstein parodies. Right, so the Chance of three, I want to say, where burd snaps out the brain so good? Also, can we bring up Frankenstein as well? Have you seen Frankenstein? Yeah, the season sixteen one, Yeah, something like that where Yeah, so basically it's Frank's father. Just basically the end sequence of him ripping the brains out of the scientists mortified me as a child. Yeah, it's just brain's getting snapped out of heads. I just love that. Yeah, he'd gotten to the point with his superhuman strength that he could just like twist top the top of people's skulls off and just in a bunon brea from one, You're like, it's so good. And yeah, bringing in Jerry Lee Lewis, you know the yeah, Jerry Lewis rather uh the inspiration behind Frank's voice I thought was an amazing gap for them. It really was Yeah, a more recent one as well that I really enjoyed, which caught me off guard with how good it was. Was our normal activity. Oh okay, I don't think I remember that one filming. It's the Paranormal Activity one. The Demon's coming to get Maggie because Marge made a deal with the devil to I think it was how her sisters get their souls back as a charge. She said the Satan that her first, her third child or something belong to Satan, something along those lines. But because there's something about the Paranoractivity seat like series. I remember the first one like absolute spoit, the share of him, and then it was just no repeat, at the repeat, at the repeat. But I love the What I loved about the original one was how low the budget was. And it's just like a quiet room and a saucepan drops. There's no like Gore, there's no special effects. It's something that can happen in any house and over the other day. I never day. It was recently one of our things fell out of the padre and I was like, oh shit, this is paramlativity. Let's just it's so simple, that concept. But but yeah, I'm just gonna hear what Treehouse of Horror was actually in un Yeah, I think it was twenty three, so from season twenty four. Yeah, just looking at that, that was a pretty good Treehouse of Horror and the whole like they had the greatest story you ever hold it like, that's not a parody of anything. It's like, by the way, Yeah, for those of you who haven't checked it out, go to like just the Wikipedia page for all the Treehouse of Horror episodes. They've got a column for possible references or what they're parodying or whatever. And I reckon that is just a great media list right there. I think that's a podcast idea. Waiting to happen is just yeah, reviewing the source material and then reviewing the Treehouse of Horror segment. But yeah, the great Yeah, and then it's got Barton Homer's Excellent Adventure which is like so fun that one. Yeah back to the Future parody thing. Yeah yeah, yeah, that one's one of the I remember watch that going this is like classic era. I love that Excellent Adventure one. What was the fine what was the other segment in that one? Say the great story as whole as you were saying, yeah, yeah, where it's just like I think it's because the Host and Biggs thing was happening around that time, and yeah, a black hole appears in Springfield and then yeah, it starts out people like hey, with a great place to throw our garbage, and then the whole gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and I think could go on to inspire the video game Donut County. Shout out, Shout out to Donut County. That's an excellent game. Now, is there any other parodies that weren't horror based that you wanted to bring up that weren't horror based? Um? No, not really. The other big one that I had was for Terror at five and a half feet. How awesome is that segment? Yeah, and a parody of the Twilight Zone segment episode Terror at twenty thousand feet. It's yeah, about a guy on a plane and John lithgals. We were saying, yeah, yeah, So yeah, this is sort of a self recommend for the second two segments of the Twilight Zone the movie, because yeah, anyone that doesn't know, Yeah, the Twilight's Own movie that came out in the eighties, produced by Spielberg. The first two segments, like one is Uncomfortable because there was like real on screen depths associated with it, and like it's just a bit of an uncomfortable watch. And then the second segment is Spielberg's really schmoltzy like retirement home segment that is just so Sacharin that yeah, it gave me double diabetes. But the second two segments ones it's called It's a good Life and this is what they parody in a Treehouse of Horror two with Bart Stream like the kid with all the notly Powers mare and Nancy Cartwright is actually in that segment in that movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And that's directed by Joe Dante who Gremlins and like a bunch of other stuff. He's just such a Small Soldiers. I want to say, yeah, yeah, absolutely that man, that was a surprisingly great movie. And in that one, I want to do a podcast with someone who's got in the nineties, maybe yourself, where we just go back and revisit the film that we gret with that people just don't give enough credit for its Small Soldiers is number one on my list, mate. Yeah, oh, and it's one of these ones which is actually so ahead of its time in a lot of ways, Like the special effects were so good Yeah, it was incredibly It's funny because it's viewed as like a box office bomb and like a forgotten thing, but I think it could have potential to be a cult hit. It is so good. Everyone remembers those small Soldiers toys being in chops. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I never got myself a chip, has it? I bought one later on in life. Yeah. I ad The Archer, but like I remember that a movie that was based it was almost like a movie made to sell toys, and I get that, but it was almost like taking the mickey out of that as well. It was just it was the way it was handled. I love that movie. I absolutely love it. Yeah, and Phil Hartmanson I think it's his last filmed on screen performance as well. Really was that? I thought it was before Jingle all the way? Uh No, well, I don't know if filming wise, but I know it was released posthumously and like, yeah, there's a little bit like in the mid or after credits as well, which just shows a deleted scene of like, yeah, him goofing up a take or something like that, and said, yeah, I've dedicated to Phil Hartman and all that. Yeah, I says edgingle the way ninety six because that it was ninety eight. I think small sol isn't it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, shout out to small soldiers. It's a bit off topic. Let's do it. Let's do it. I'm glad I've finally found someone that appreciates movie as much as I have. Yeah. But yeah, so also in Twilight's on the movie. Yeah, the final segment, the fourth segment is yeah, the John lithgar Tara at twenty thousand feet and like him just being this panicked guy who's like already got anxiety about being on a plane and whatever, and like it's very relatable, and the way that they sell his fear and anxiety is so artfully and so masterfully done. And then yeah, the whole gremlin thing, and like, unlike the Simpsons version, you don't really see a lot of the monster or apparition on the side of the plane, and like that becomes so much scarier. Like but I mean, I think the Simpsons also do a very good version of this where yeah, you do see a lot of the grammar, but again it's like the clown without pity thing. No one believes Bart. All right, let's do one more each before we wrap this up. All right, Yeah, go for it. I'll pick one. All right, I'll go through what I've got one list here, let's do a join one here. Night of Living Dead that the dolls for zombies so iconic and just felt like the obvious one that goes you didn't at zombies. Everyone's scared of zombies. Yeah, like we're talking about don't have a cow mankind before. It's like, it's actually surprising they haven't done more zombie parodies in the Simpsons because there's so many different takes on it, Like, I mean, especially like it felt like five or ten years ago we had zombie overload with the amount of shows and movies yeah around the topic, but yeah, still back in the day where there were only a few key properties. And yeah, Night of Living Dead certainly, like again, like this was that sort of story just coming into the Simpsons world, and I loved it. One of the greatest gags is earlier seasons you shut the zombie flan he was a zombie. Yeah, I love that one. I'm gonna go with the blob mmm. So we touched on it in aw Gruesome one podcast was a couple of weeks ago when he ate the cat and he killed the cat. Well, killing the cat was a gruesome death. Have you seen the Blob the original one? No? I haven't. Actually, just again this idea of just this blob going around that you can't stop. No matter how much you run, you ain't getting away from it. I thought they did a really good take of the Blob here, incorporating to Homer, and it has a great appearance from who sings big Butts So mix a lot, So, Mix a lot. You do you remember the song in that one? No, it's actually it's been a hot minute since I watched that segue. So it's like, I like big guts and I can nut lie. But it's just like a completely take. But he's sang that this complete parody. It's a great remix of the song. But I really really enjoyed. I believe it's called what it called the Married to the Blob marriage. Yeah, it's called Marriage to the Blob. Yeah, from Trios of Horror seventeen. If you haven't seen it, we just reviewed it recently on our show some season eighteen, in the ear of the Simpsons when they were making the show, So that the quality is very very miss yeah, miss Like it's there's a couple of like okays, but it's been pretty miss so fast season eighteen. But yeah, I really enjoyed the Blob parody in that Trace of Horror. Yeah, it was one of those ones where it's like, oh, I'm surprised the Simpsons hadn't done this before, you know, all the Homer is Fat jokes that they could have done that. Yeah, certainly the Blob is one of these stories that they could tell through that. Yeah. Well, the Halloween of Horror episode for me was a big one for that where it's like, how have they gone twenty plus season season twenty six to twenty seven without doing a non It had to be a cannon Halloween episode. Yeah, because that episode, to me is one of the greats. I absolutely love Halloween of Horror. I watched it recently again because I'm speaking to Carolyn Demena next week and can she wrote the episode. It's just such a great Lisa episode. Yeah, And it's one of these ones because it's like, yeah, you forget that Lisa is meant to be eight sometimes because she's basically a teenager, and this is one that like, yeah, we got to see her be a kid again, but in a very still lease a way that like didn't feel like it was a character break or anything either. Yeah. Yeah, and it's genuinely scary as well. I love Hell in the Horror but all the time in the world for it. But what's your final one you want to talk on today? Talk about? Yeah, I want to throw a shout out to the Treehouse of Horror fifteen. So from season sixteen, I believe, Yeah, four beheadings and a funeral. So this is like a combination one which is like the Jack of the Ripper story, but also mixing it in with Sherlock Holmes. Again, this is one of the Simpsons, like they're casting in this world and so like Lisa's your Sherlock Holmes and Bart is your Watson. I'm really not liking that one. When we did the review for it, yeah, I remember going, I'm pretty sure my memory of it was so there's no jokes here. It's pretty much just how funny is a British accent? Yeah, I think that was my thing. But yeah, go, what do what do you like about it? Well? I think this is another one that like improved when I saw the movie from Hell the Okay, So yeah, Johnny Depp and it's the Jack the Ripper story, and I think the scene with the opim dem was maybe a bit unnecessary. Like I actually do remember when it first came out and watching ANU on Channel ten that they were like, ooh, this is a heavy drug use warning and it was like, oh, what are they doing in this treehouse of Hirah? But yeah, largely unnecessary scene, but yeah, it was one where I think, like just mood and casting, I think I really nailed, and like, I think I was totally swerved by the ending as well, that it was Chief Wigham in the end and they managed to incorporate using an eel pie into the solution as well, which yeah, just sounds disgusting and so totally British. I think the best parodies of the ones where much like the Shinning as you touched on it's probably wait is the best is where you don't have to have seen the source material to appreciate how great it is. M Yeah, there's there's so many episodes that as I've got older and watched more movies and things like that and I have seen what they're referencing, I'm like, ah, that parody is so great where if you're watching something, they're parodying something and it's just lost on you. I feel like, even if you can't find it funny, it's probably not a good parody. Good parody needs to be funny, whether you've seen the source material or not. Is one of those parodies where it's funny if you haven't seen the source material, but if you've seen the source material, it's even funnier. Yeah, exactly, Yeah, it's an enhancement because yeah, still haven't seen the Shining. The Shining still holds up, and I almost don't want to watch The Shining because I feel it'd be a disappointment. Now, yeah, it won't live up to the quality of the SIBSS. I've seen bits of it because you used to always be on TV. I think it goes like it's a really long movie. I feel like I can't remember the Shining. Let's see how what the runtime is for the Shining. The Shining run time is, where do you find the fucking right? One hundred and forty six minutes, which is a long time. Yeah, that's an evening. But look when it was on TV, you go for like three plus hours for you to throw commercials into that as well. Oh yeah, like one of the last times I watched commercial television was like I was just scrolling through, Oh, True Lives is on and it already being a long movie, and then every fifteen minutes being interrupted by ads. I'm like, man, there's a great movie, but I have to give up. This is just not the way to watch it. How did we do it? Mate? We had no choice. Yeah, is either that or drop thirty bucks on the VHS. And my Mum's like, you got five videos to buy this year? What are you picking? Yeah, exactly exactly. But anyway, that is some of our favorite parodies that Simpsons have done. I focus on horror. You've done mostly horror as well. You threw in the Superhero one, which could have been a good horror movie. As you're saying, I like the idea of that being a horror film. Yeah, it's just yeah, it's just a really genius character thing. And then yeah, Zena as well, what a great guest star as well for this, Like yeah, not necessarily comic book or horror, but yeah, much in that collector thing, like high fantasy sort of thing. And she does great. And Zena doesn't fly. Not Zena. I'm loosely gowless. It's a shame that you couldn't get Kevin Soilbell as well. I think these days you were like, probably good they did now, but at the time would have felt relevant. Yeah, maybe they tried and then they couldn't, and then they were disappointed. You've still one joke. That's my one Kevin Sorbo joke, because think it's everyone's Kevin and I don't know whether it's true, but I'm going to just believe that it's true. That's what happens that he read this direction. Alrighty guys, this has been our discussion on the best horror parodies in the since type. You enjoyed it, Elliott, plug all your stuff before we get out of here. Yeah, if you like Simpson's content, I'm reviewing Simpsons also over at the Simpsons Index with for a few of the first nineteen seasons of the show when randomly going through the latest twenty five years or whatever it is now. Yeah, and if you like spooky stuff, you know we've got a two days of Halloween goodness left before all the Christmas decorations start going up all over the shops. So if you like spooky stuff, I made a audio drama series called pulp Fury Radio. We've got a lot of spooky stories on there, just amazing actors. Especially. The first episode is like our take on a zombie sort of thing, but it's like an alien overtaking a small town, and that one's called it came from the bottom of the ocean, but also from space, so that I feel like that sort of gives you the general vibe that we're going for. It's like it's slucky, it's horror, but it's also very fun in campy at the same time. So go check that out. That's pulp Fury Radio at Pulpuryradio dot com.
