When you start to predict, try to predict. You think you got a trend, a pattern. You think you've figured a team out, and you have it. Now you got Seattle figured out. I'm trying to I said that defense is unbelievable. They run the football. But what's it come down to. Sam Darnold is going to have to prove to all of this in a big game. He can play big. Now you can say that game against San Francisco he played big. He didn't, his defense did, and his running game did. Okay, I give you credit, and you didn't have any mistakes. You're gonna have to win a game. We did this with Lamar Jackson. We do this with Josh Allen. There are certain quarterbacks where we go, Okay, prove it. Let me see what you can do. Big game, Seattle, you got home field advantage, one of the great home field advantages in all the sports.

And point differential San Francisco and Seattle unbelievable this year. But all it takes one of those games. And it seems like every playoffs we go.

You know the tech there's probably four teams, four road teams that could win in the opening rounds of the playoffs. Here crazy. And then you got the college football. If I would have said, hey, Indiana's going to be the team to beat Miami is going to be in there, Alabama's going to get embarrassed, Georgia's out, Ohio State's out.

If you look at these final four teams, Indiana, Indiana, Alabama, Alabama, the se seed Alabama, they're no mistake about that. They dominated them. And even Kirk kerb Street in the game is saying, basically, Alabama, hello, where are you? Paul Feinbaum pick up a White courtesy phone.

Speaker 2: But Old Miss is playing well without Lane Kiffin, and I don't want Lane Kiffin in the booth. I don't want him showing up taking a victory lap for Old Miss. Let them have their moment, and I'm glad that he wasn't there. Let those kids in that coach have their moment. Not you coming back saying, hey, you see what I did here, Look at what I build here. While I go to LSU transfer portal is a mess, but everybody it feels like it's putting their name in the transfer portal. There's over four thousand players in the transfer portal at last count. I mean, it's crazy. I do have a little bit of information college football from my college football source just sent this to me prior to the start of the show, and I'm curious about where we're going to be next year for the playoffs. My source says momentum remains towards sixteen team playoff as soon as next season. The final decision for next season is do two weeks from this Friday, they will make a have a final vote on if they're going to have sixteen teams in the college football playoffs. My source says. Focus also remains on the automatic qualifier's allocation with the Big ten in the SEC. They want to have more teams in there and the Big twelve in the ACC. Logistics and scheduling matters are also being worked on. So this is fluid right now with college football, with the playoffs going on, where we're going to be next season in all indications are the momentum and even what I was told a couple of weeks ago there would be a sixteen team playoff, But I did wonder about this. Did the College Football Playoff Committee get it right?

Speaker 3: Now? Do I think Notre Dame was better than Alabama? Yes?

Speaker 2: Do I think they were better than Miami, Yes, but Miami. Miami was awesome. That defense was unbelievable. That was not a fluke when you watch that game. I don't know how good Carson Beck is. Didn't have to be great in that game. He's going to have to be, you know, have one of those moments probably, But that defense, they put some pressure on Ohio State and that was impressive, dominating. And now you start to handicap this of who you got, well, I'm rooting for Old Miss for the story. Indiana is an unbelieve Indiana is one of the great This is one of the great stories in college football history. Now. I don't want to go too big and dramatize this and say it's a miracle on ice, because it's not.

You go out and beat Oregon like they're winning games. They're physical, and that's what was impressive. I thought, Okay, they get a stop, they get a couple of sacks. I'm like, all right, now we're going to see if Indiana can be as physical. All of a sudden, it's like that's one of those where your brother is bigger than you and he's on top of you and he's beaten you up, and you go uncle mom. Alabama was calling for mom because Indiana was not letting up and Mendoza. It was like, uh, I don't know, I'll throw fifteen passes, run the football, play good defense.

He'll be in demand. But then you saddle him with two rookie quarterbacks who aren't starting quarterbacks and spare me the shador Sanders. Let him down to a field goal range. He's not threatening there. He's more threatening than Dylan Gabriel. You know, Watson set this franchise back five years. That's on the front office there, they're the ones that made these decisions. Kevin Stefanski didn't draft these quarterbacks either. No, not surprised, not surprised. But he'll he'll be picked up, probably as an offensive coordinator. So not surprised at all. I did think this when I saw what the Falcons did. I'm not surprised that they fired Raheem Morris. But I have to go back two years ago and remember when Arthur Blank was told by people in his front office, you don't want to hire Bill Belichick. They made the decision to hire Raheem Morris. So Arthur Blank fires coach and GM Terry Fontineau and basically saying, all right, I listened to you guys. Now, I don't know if Belichick, you know, would have been that much of an upgrade.

Speaker 2: But the Michael Pennox draft pick, which I said at the time, I didn't understand it. I didn't think he was one of those where you go, oh my god, somebody let him fall this far good college quarterback two different places, but injuries there got hurt again this year. But you have these all these players that you know you keep waiting for. They're They're the most frustrating team in the NFL for me because I'm told Vijon Robinson is the next Kristian McCaffrey. Okay, and he might be, or Drake London or Kyle Pitts. All right, they got the nucleus there, and maybe they do, but it just feels like they kind of go ninety three yards and kick a field goal, and that doesn't mean they even make the field goal. But Bijeon is a wonderful player. He's fun to watch. He should be dominating. He should be Jamir Gibbs like. But I'm not surprised. But I did think back those two years ago when they it was like and you know, Robert Kraft may have played a role in that by calling Arthur Blank saying, you don't want this guy now. I wouldn't want Belichick, certainly with everything going on, and that's two years ago.

And there'll be other coaches that will be fired probably today. There'll probably be some surprises that those who do keep their jobs as well. John Harbaugh lost his game last night, had a chance to make the playoffs.

That is tied for the most in NFL history.

I don't know if Bryce Young is a franchise quarterback.

Now, granted they made the playoffs with a losing record, and if you're in the NFC set, that's what makes the Falcons situation even messier.

You know, we focused on Mike Tomlin the last two months, and there's still no guarantee. They're not even favored at home. If they lose that game to the Texans and they're three and a half point underdogs, what happens. What's Aaron Rodgers' future? Rogers played better than I think people thought he would, But I don't know if that could have been his last game. Last night, I felt like it could have been his last game. It's like Travis Kelcey, man, I watched that should be his last game. Here's Travis Kelcey talking about possible retirement last year.

But it felt like that was maybe the final game that he was going to play. Aaron Rodgers, I felt like this was going to be his last year, no matter what. And if they lose this opening round game against the Texans, how's that going to how's that going to play in Pittsburgh where it's already it feels like a tenuous situation.

But the thing that I always have said, and I go back to Andrew Luck, I can have a great quarterback, but if I don't have a great offensive line, my great quarterback might be just a good quarterback. Look at what happened to Patrick Mahomes in the two Super Bowls where he got blown out. He didn't have a good offensive line. So one of the three greatest quarterbacks of all time looked average because he had an average offensive line. The Raiders were in the bottom five in offensive line. Now this is PFF rankings, bottom five. What did the Patriots do When you get a quarterback, and you got a franchise quarterback, you go out and you get Will Campbell at your left tackle. Penny Sewell with the Lions. That helps Jared Goff like, there's certain teams who have done it right. Now, the Colts did get it right eventually, and then Andrew Lux said I don't want to play anymore. Where they had a really good offensive line, but you got to build from in with your line, offensive and defensive line. It's everything. Now you're wasting a running back. You got to have a good offensive line, and maybe if you can have a couple of great offensive linemen or even one great offensive lineman. The Eagles won the Super Bowl because they had a better offensive defensive line. That's where it starts. It's same thing with college football. You can talk about everybody in the transfer portal. I've said, all along, man, give me offensive and defensive linemen because there aren't that many to go around. There are a lot of quarterbacks, there are a lot of running backs, a lot of wide receivers. Man, it's hard to get good offensive lineman. There's good defensive lineman. But you got to spend the money. And that's what the Patriots have done with Drake May. Now, if Mendoza is going to be your quarterback, you better bolster the offensive line.

But the Raiders bolster the offensive line. The old Raiders were built on that offensive line. They had an unbelievable offensive line back in the day. Look at dynasties, look at the offensive line, look at defensive line. It's not a fluke. I mean, it's not sexy to talk about it now. There's no hot tatings of it is. Let's talk Will Campbell for twenty minutes.
