Welcome to the NXT Podcast, your home for weekly NXT reviews and insight.
The beautiful part of NXT is that when one dream ends, another dream begins.
Find all of your NXT news recaps and analysis right here. So with
that being said, we only have one question for you. Are we thought?
So let's get the show started right now. All right, this is
Memphis Smart Company, you from Mullet Manor, and we're going to do the
NXT review for ten twenty four And it is the first night of Halloween Havoc.
They do the prior to Halloween, I guess one that follows on Halloween,
and then of course Halloween night is night too, and tonight is is
pretty good, is a pretty good show. And they start off with a
band I have to admit I wasn't familiar with, but I definitely liked.
And it was New Year's Day, uh, and they were doing Vampire.
And when I first heard the song on there, I was walking by and
and I thought that was Shotzi for a second, and of course I had
to stop and look and it definitely wasn't Shotsy and had to sit down and
watch the song. So a great, great opening, uh, And then
they go to Scarlet and Shotzi because they're the host, and they do their
little opening spill, and of course everyone's got their costumes on. So but
they're going to open it up with the Devil's Playground round match and that's gonna
be Keanna James against Roxanne Prez. Now of course, now I love me
some Keanna James's entrance and Roxanne came out in her costume and everything's good.
Of course she's Freddy when she comes out, and uh so, yeah,
the match gets going, and you know, I have to say, if
you're going to use props, if you're going to use stuff in a ring,
there's a reason they use trash can lids and trash cans and and and
chairs and tables. The visuals and everything is good. It looks okay,
a little mess up, it still looks okay. And this is going way
back to when they first started doing this in the seventies. But I have
to say in this particular match, was it was a little funny. It's
a little funny because yeah, when they said playground, they you know,
they put devil in front of it, and they just had like a playground
with some fake blood on it. It was not what I expected. It's
just I mean, you had the purse, of course, you know,
coming in and this is a falls count anywhere match, so you had the
purse. You hit one point in time. There's a swing set out there
and they with a little plastic slide, all right, So the plastic slides
got a little blood on it, you know. It's anyway, the slide
gets used, the swing, the teeter totter, remember those teeter totters.
Yeah, well it gets used, a laptop, you know, just a
little of everything. There was even a chain and I looked away for a
second and I see that Keanna James is choking rock sand with the chain and
I thought somehow she you know, she had both sides of it. Little
later on she throws her into the wall or the barrier with the chain,
but it's Roxanne's holding on to it. So anyway. Uh. And there's
just even a point towards the end of the match where the cameras you just
catch the ref moving the trash can for the ladies sit just uh uh.
It was just one my cup of tea on this one. It was just
an odd, odd match. Now, Keana is a freaking workhorse. She
can make anything look good. I think she's one of the top women wrestlers
that we have going because she can carry it and she can work the match
good. So anyway, it's just uh uh, you know, the purse
is gonna end up causing you know, rock Sand to win. So yeah,
alrighty we go from there, and they got a little promo with Melo
Mellow and of course the big thing is trying to figure out who beat up
Trick, So in this interview, you know, they bring up, you
know, did you bring did you jump Trick? And then and then he
goes into of course is no, and then dragging Off. They do a
little spot with him in here. So yeah, so we got dragging Off
and Mellow three coming up. You know, good little spot, I guess,
and they do uh you know, well I wrote right after that corny,
so I guess my notes. I'm watching it on the monitor. But
apparently when I originally watched it, I did not think very much of it.
And they do a little spot with metaphor and and of course they're just
babbling like they always do, and Tazia comes in, sneaks in and steals
that big cup trophy thing of a jig. Yeah, so everybody's wondering who
did it, how it happened, and where it went so off to that
goofy spot. But then it is time for Lexis King, mister Pilman,
it is time for his debut. And of course, man, you know
I knew or watched his dad, of course a lot his well, his
dad's whole career and to see him and for him to play that he doesn't
want to play off of his dad. As much as he looks like him
is just an angle in itself. But they have this, Uh they have
him starting off against I think it's a Dante Chen, you know, the
first Singapore born rest. I don't know, doctor JABBRONI it's what I have.
But the match was okay, Lexis hadn't really I think, fully developed,
and it's he deserves to be in the Spotty's in in n XT and
he will get better. Uh. It just this match. Chin actually had
some good spots in. It made himself look you know, like a veteran,
I guess you could say. And of course King's gonna win this match,
you know, they got to do that. But he did sell good.
Uh, it's just his offensive moves and his timing. You know,
it's gonna take him just a little bit to get that down, but it
will happen, and of course he wins this, and uh yeah, they
go from there. They got a little spot with Tony d and stacks a
little promo with that and h then they're gonna go into the break out tournament
and it's gonna be with Miss Jordan cleeen Jordan against Oreana Grace, the beauty
Queen. Yeah. Uh and it's four that it's it's cleaning up the brackets
now, so it's down to the final four. So it's Grace and Jordan
for this side. And uh and it's for the NXT contract. Uh so,
yes, they they have a you know, okay match. Actually it's
it's a little better than something that I've already seen, so yeah, it's
uh yeah, the match is okay. Jordan looks good, Grace looks good.
You know, I think both of them are close. Jordan though,
just has some really good offensive moves. You know, I don't know if
she can do it on the stick yet. We'll have to see that,
but you know, pretty good match. Well, Jordan ends up winning this
match, so she will represent her side of the bracket and they have another
match coming up a little later on. Yeah, and then we go into
the von Wagner saga story. Uh he's there with mister Stone, you know,
and of course Vaughn wants to know what he was thinking challenging Braun and
uh, you know, everybody knows this is going to be a semi squash
match, do we Is Van going to show up? Has that all been
a comeback to you know, a little way to come back and get him,
you know, get the revenge? You know, Van shows up.
I don't know, there's got to be something too now that's going to be
on night too, which is of course next week. But we will see
if this is going to be a squash or if we'll have the reappearance of
von Wagner, which I kind of hope it is myself. I think this
could be a good I ain't go a good way to bring it back in
and get going. Uh So let's see they go from there to uh we
got the host again with the Creed brothers in ivy now and of course they're
wanting their revenge match, and uh so then the host the ladies decide to
spend the wheel. So they've set gone wheel again. Uh, and they
of course spent it and it comes up which would normally be tables, ladders
and chairs match, but they have cleverly uh marked out the sea and put
an s so it's table ladders and scares, okay. Uh and uh yeah,
so they got another uh Tony D and uh and uh in Stacks little
spot before they go into the match with Tony DN, Stacks and Chase U.
And of course we've got THEO with her, but we also have j.
C. Jane is out there with Chase U. So now, as
far as the match, the match was pretty good. You know, Tony
and them are Tony and Stacks has got good timing and he's got some great
offensive moves. He can jump over the top rope with ease. He can
a little deal they do with Tony D you know, kind of armbarn or
not, you know, like a throw he does over the top rope on
to the opponent outside. That is good, you know, everything is good
on that. But I have to say that Chase, you look pretty good
in here too. Now they're definitely the New day of the n x T
with the comical side of everything, but they actually can work when needed.
Now a Duke needs to do a little better on his selling instead of look
so soap operash whatever. But this match was pretty good, and of course
it has to have an angle, and that is at one point in time,
Miss Jane, Miss ja c Jane tries to slip mister Chase a crowbar,
a prie bar there to help him win the match, but he refuses,
and a few offensive moves later, bam, we have new tag team
champions in Duke Cutson and Andre Chase, so Chase U is now the holders
of the tag team belts. So here we go. We got an angle
with Tony and Stacks trying to get it back. We have other guys trying
to get into the to the mix, so you know, we'll see how
they're gonna do with the tag team division all right. After that, let
me see, we got little Nathan Frasier's doing his talk show that he does,
and and Nathan's really good with the stick, so, I mean,
he does really good and of course this is mostly referencing Dom that he you
know, says that Tom has a face it just needs to be slapped,
and you know, I think Tom does a great job of presenting that face.
To make you want to slap it, so he is definitely coming on.
But Nathan does really good in this little spot. And of course they're
setting up for a match coming up. Uh, and of course you got
Baron Corbin coming after that, and they have to ask Baron, you know,
hey, were you the one that jumped Trick? And he pretty much
says that if he was going to do it, he'd walk up and do
it, so he doesn't need to go behind anybody's back. But he does
bring up the angle of hey, it was it was hello, or it
was you know, it could have been this, or it could have been
that, you know, but you know, he does put the ankle back
on mellow. So hmmm, we're going to get something a little later on
with this. Is there a little meat on this moon? We'll just have
to see, all right? This is this is an interesting match coming up.
Okay, I have to show my age here again. It's GG Dolan
versus Blair Davenport. But the thing that gets me is the match is called
a lights out match. Okay. Now, in my day, a lights
out match was a no sanctioned lights outmatch, meaning at the end of the
card that would be a brief intermission, they would cut the lights on and
off and say that if you don't want to see brutality, then you need
to leave now because we are not sanctioning this match. It is a lights
out, a match happening after the lights go out. Okay. So it
was a little surprising when they announced that that match is coming up next.
So I'm thinking, how are they going to do the lights out match?
Well, they did it the way I was not expecting. They just cut
the lights out. So they did. They even made a spectacle of cutting
the lights off. Now they've got the ring of course where you can see
and everything. But other than that, that was the lights out match.
Okay, So now let's go into the match. You know, it starts
off kind of strong, and you know, and Gg's been getting better.
Uh, Blair is good, you know. So we could sit here and
go on, but I can't stop thinking about they just cut the lights off.
So match is pretty good. Uh, Blair ends up winning this match.
So uh so they got to turn the lights back on and uh and
yeah you could see Blair and she had won the match. Okay, oh
my goodness. Uh all right, uh and as of the time of taping
this. The next is a is a little spot with Tiffany, a little
promo with Tiffany. Tiff time, and uh, they have somebody come in
and dressed like her doing a fantastic you know, copy of her, impression
of her, and uh, I don't know who it is. To tell
you the truth, I can't you know. As the time of this taping,
I have not done any research. So yeah, but it was pretty
good. I liked it, a good little spot. Uh. And then
of course they're going to go into the next breakout tournament match. Yeah,
I wait, yeah, I'm sorry, I got I'm still getting the lights.
They just turned the lights off. I'm sorry. But this breakout tournament
match is Lolavice and Carmen Patrick, Petrica Petricka or whatever. Anyway, she
is super, super good man. She Uh that you can definitely tell the
karate the mixed martial arts background, and he's going to be fine. Personally.
I think somebody needs to give her a sandwich, put a little weight
on her. That's just me. She's got the good moves, as they
say, the educated feet, but hey, Lola Ice has got a little
of that too. And the match is pretty good, you know, it
is pretty good and you know, other than the tag match, actually this
might be the second best match I've seen so far tonight. And it does
come down to some big kicks, you know. Carmen puts on a big
nails Lola just perfect, and but Lola comes back with a even even better
or even more perfect her her but a better placed kick and down goes Carmen
and Lola Vice gets the wind. So it's setting up a for neck,
you know, next week. So good little spot. Let's see they have
a little chase, you know, celebration chase, use celebration with you know,
everybody, the whole crew, the game, the click, and out
of nowhere comes the women's tag champs from I think it's smacked down there,
but it's Chelsea and Piper, and of course there's some words and that means
that there's going to be a match next week with j C. Jane and
THEA and Chelsea and Piper, so we'll see how that goes. Then of
course, more goofy crap from metaphor. There they find the trophy. They
see that Tazara's got the trophy because he is now posted on Twitter or x
or Instagram or whatever, these wacky guys are doing and of course they're sad,
he happy, funny, funny, It's just I don't know metaphors.
I see the purpose. I okay. But then they've gotten Mello doing a
little spot and Bron comes up, and Bron's kind of letting him know that,
hey man, you know, we were on top just a few weeks
ago, and now look at all everybody's you know, kind of got out
there and got their names out there, and we're kind of on the back
burner. So he sees or he thinks it since uh you know, that
happened a trick, he thinks Melo did it, that he's changed, and
that he'll take care of his opponent, which is trapping off. Uh and
yeah, then Mellow will take care of Von and mister Stone and they'll be
back on top. But of course Mello doesn't want to hear any of that
because he's just trying to be him. But yeah, but they are now
getting ready or the title match between uh you know, val Kira and and
Becky and uh yeah. So they also have a whole like a pub supposedly
somewhere in the UK or somewhere like that, and they're all watching, So
it's there's a watch party, and then uh, you've got Jade Cargill up
in the muffet box, Uh well watching. Uh she does her first original
pose there and and and lets them know that she is there. So uh
yeah, all right. So the match itself is is a really good match
you know you're gonna have and I'm sure this was a practice laid out.
Uh, this is definitely not just a walk through because some of their moves
were just a little too smooth. And and then, uh, if you're
gonna have the outcome like they did, you're gonna have to make it look
good. And they did a pretty good job of it. What meaning that
meaning that we have a new champ. Uh. Yeah. So Becky drops
the title to an NXT star and gives her the rub, gives her the
bump, gives her the you know, the endorsement, Uh to carry on.
But you know, they've got to make the match look good and they
do. Uh and and in the end, it comes down to a counter
on one of Becky's moves and she rolls her up and pins her in a
position to where you know, you could have just about see it happening.
So a good match. I mean, I could sit here and go on
and on about it, but I'd say go back and watch it. It's
it's worth it. And they put on a show. They had the headlining
match, and they put on a show. Now as far as the whole
night, I gotta give it a you know, you know, be b
minus you know, a good good, good show. Uh. The start
though, this band really looked good the the way they made it sound.
They just had them set up on the ramp. Uh. So, I
mean, it's just everything about that opening was was good. So it just
really started the ball rolling. And I think they did a pretty pretty good
job of it overall. Like I said, the when they when you're gonna
bring things into the ring, you know, uh with the rock sand match,
the that she ripped a fence post off or a fence plank or a
picket and uh, you know, I'm sure you know it was what it
was, and it and it looked like it because, uh, miss James
bends to take that blow and the board breaks perfectly. Sometimes they'd get some
of these guys a miter saw so they could at least make it look like
some Jagger dudges or something. I don't know, but anyway, that and
the chain in that match kind of you know, that was the only thing
in that but ken I did make the match look good and Rock Sande did
good in that one too, and then you know, the Tiffany promos and
the chase you winning the belts goes along with this with Valkira winning the Ladies
Championship. So it's just everything kind of fit in its proper place. So
good, tight show. I'm very happy for that. Mellow was probably the
I don't say the weakest, but the most non appealing promos, and usually
he does pretty good promos. And of course I did not see trick,
so they're carrying on with that, and yeah, and then in in the
uh yeah, in overall other than the lights out match, other than the
lights out match, and please go back and look up some old Memphis wrestling
or or Midwest or anything like that, uh and look up lights out matches
and and see how they do it. You'll see what I mean. It's
it's it's a pet peeve of mine. Now I'm gonna be yeah, it's
going to be bothering me for a while. And then of course, uh,
Jade Cargill making another appearance, So yeah, overall good show. Uh
can't say anything bad about that. So well, guys, let me tree
you let me see. We well, we've got to next week to look
forward to the second night of Halloween Havoc, so they'll have to top this,
which you know, at least gave them something to shoot for. And
uh, and I'm looking forward to seeing the angle with Braun and von Wagner
or mister Stone or the lack of maybe who knows. Uh. And in
our NXT just the people just got brought up from NXT. J D mcdonaugh
and uh and some of these people. Uh, you know, I can't
think I'm having a brain faught right now, but uh uh the ladies that
the tough anyway, the uh, everybody from NXT that's been placed in a
spot you know, I think has done good. You know Andy hartwell they
hadn't done too much with her. She did get a match the other night
and looked pretty good in it. So NXT showing strong ratings, looking good.
So uh yeah, uh, everything's looking up for NXT. So we
will go ahead, I guess, and end this now because yeah, we've
kind of went through the show and we'll see back next week for the second
we of Halloween having and always remember, thank you guys for taking the time
out to give us a listen. And uh and we'll just end it now
with the same way we do it every week. Uh, if you can
help some of them shelters out, do whatever you can if you can,
and spay and neuter as always, and uh, well yeah, I guess
that's it. So guys, this is miss Memphis Mark and I'm out.
