Episode 82 - Knights pt 2 - Discovery by the imperium and addition to the fold

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we complete our coverage of Knights in 40K. We open with the great crusade and the re-discovery of the knight worlds. We then take a quick turn to cover the titantica on mars, that kind of lost their mind when discovering the knight worlds. From there we talk about the knight worlds joining the imperium (really the mechanicus) and how they were folded in. We also talk about the sacristans and their role to both the knight houses, and the Mechanicum (unknown to the Knight worlds). We then talk about Knights in battle and how they are used strategically. We close with the knight worlds being pulled into the horus heresy and the fall of some houses and the creation of the Freeblades.

[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_02]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: On today, we're going to continue our coverage of the nights with a deeper dive in this.
[SPEAKER_02]: mock more modern night forty eight.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, some the titans and a few other pieces of the key houses and then their history through the horrors heresy aka world destruction.
[SPEAKER_02]: Galaxy Destruction with most of the worlds for the nights, but for those new to the cast, the Forty-K-Lore cast, the weekly podcast releasing every Monday and seven PM Eastern time with a focus on the lower the Forty-K universe.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you go to the about of our show, you will see a link to our website, the Forty-K-Lore cast.com, our Patreon, and our Discord.
[SPEAKER_02]: For those who have not, please follow and comment on the cast.
[SPEAKER_02]: It helps us out a ton and improves our algorithm.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right now we're a top ranked podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're in the top one person of podcasts globally.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's only because a lot of you have listened, commented and followed, which is pushed us to more people.
[SPEAKER_02]: So just hearty, thank you.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's been really, it's kind of, it's a nice little pat in the back for us, more for Brad than me.
[SPEAKER_02]: His arms can't reach us back though.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know,
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, close.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: It'd be bright with the pad himself in the back just to walk over to a wall.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's scratch like a bear.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, it's so funny because it's through.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have scratched my back on a pole.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like yesterday.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, if you go to our website, you can find links to our merchandise, our Patreon, our Discord, Brad's coaching services, Brad's other podcast, and also... I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad cheating on me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's Brad cheating on me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's Brad cheating on that one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like Alan, it's just it's kind of a weird thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's easy.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, with the employee, I don't like you.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I like Alan, as I'm saying, I'm like, you're doing a podcast with someone like, oh, but with this jackass, I like Alan, I usually, I'm almost like Alan more than you.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it works out well.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Alan, I've also both agreed that if that way and you die, we're going to replace, we're both going to replace you on the other's podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the fact that there's so many plans of what people are doing after my minute.
[SPEAKER_02]: What are you doing a week from today?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's not talking about that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Getting heart surgery?
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: People make plans when things are imminent.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, besides my heart, my brain and most of my brain.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're not doomed.
[SPEAKER_02]: They prepping over here.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're looking out the window at Tuesday.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're probably going to maybe we should get some some canned goods.
[SPEAKER_02]: According to Forty K technology, I'm going to be just for wonderful servitor.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to be a terrible server.
[SPEAKER_02]: They look at you like, no extra marks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, uh, on door our discord again, totally free because they all should be built with all of you guys in mind.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was originally meant as a way for Brad and I didn't interact with you in the cast, but that was an egotistical prick move.
[SPEAKER_01]: So instead, it's been converted into something that's meant to be more people just it's ignoring us and doing its own thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the way it should be, it's like that it will make it a way for everyone to interact with me because I think I'm that important.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not.
[SPEAKER_02]: We made a place for people who find what the subject that we're talking about, a place to find others like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: They can interact with each other, which is much more valuable.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can go there, discover better literature.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to know more about a subject, game playing, hobbies, honsist of action, a hobby around painting,
[SPEAKER_02]: It's also just for fun memes.
[SPEAKER_02]: People like looking talk about video games, just general forty k. So if you're into this, you're interacting with me.
[SPEAKER_02]: You also interact with Brad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yay.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're looking for a place to join, to hop on and do more Forty Kay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hop on, can totally free links in the show notes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Always big, big thank you coming to the center.
[SPEAKER_02]: Two backwards.
[SPEAKER_02]: I see David, Ryan, Trevor, Brian, Nick, Maisie, Ethan, Steve, Kevin, Nick, Dammit.
[SPEAKER_01]: What even happened to this?
[SPEAKER_02]: I was trying to do an out of order, and I immediately dodged all that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I was like, oh, crap, no, no, which name I said are already dodged, dodged, dodged, dodged, dodged.
[SPEAKER_02]: even close.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would try to be close.
[SPEAKER_02]: All of the names are written out.
[SPEAKER_02]: I tried to through them in a random order and failed miserably.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, without the mods, who I may or may not have named all of, definitely named one of them twice, we wouldn't have a discord because I would have just, right, to the ground.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have problems.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to, like, say, I want to break them up.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just ready to break them up.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think you want your, I'm, I'm crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that I know it's just that it's, it, our discord's a really prideful thing for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Having seven thousand active members in a discord is cool as hell.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, when you have someone that you have to ready to kill it, because it's all so sky-net.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, it's not sky-net.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's worse than sky-net.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't scaring that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just it gets a mind of its own and then it's just exterminatus.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just continue.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have nothing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm lost now.
[SPEAKER_02]: As always, we also discussed Brad's ability to coach you at Forty Kay.
[SPEAKER_02]: For those of you who want to play the game on the table top, I'm looking for advice and help Brad has over ten years of experience coaching people in this realm in over thirty years of playing the game at actually a very high level.
[SPEAKER_02]: Even if it's for anything from small individual, I'm going to play with my friends to team tournaments all the way up to major competitions.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm playing a depth of con in
[SPEAKER_02]: but five days, so you guys, this will be post by the time you hear this, Brad and I have been talking a lot about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is just been over all the deployments of Dom this morning.
[SPEAKER_02]: Did you?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, good stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: I should probably look with those deployments, are you fine?
[SPEAKER_02]: Fine, fine, fine, fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I heard my soul, would you say that?
[SPEAKER_02]: No desire to win this thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just gonna play a few games.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a role in metric type of dice, or an incredibly broken or capitalist show up in your table.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to, if you're doing that, I'm showing him your table and getting you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I was going to say I was going to be wildly drunk.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm doing that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be way ahead of you.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have going to help you out on that one Friday.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't need help.
[SPEAKER_01]: Friday with you and Kevin are playing in the long more doubles.
[SPEAKER_01]: Please show up and make them do shots, give them drinks.
[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be fraud.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is so wildly after this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was going to tell you, I'm not editing that out because you gave a bunch of people advice to get a time machine, to not to like, to not to kill baby Hitler, not to not to buy Bitcoin in two thousand two, but to go back to a depth of cotton and buy me a drink.
[SPEAKER_01]: As I was saying, about the night's joining the Imperium of Mer.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's available for coaching, not life advice.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not life coaching.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just forty chain coaching.
[SPEAKER_02]: should I have to pay people if you need life advice and Brad's giving you a life advice?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying things things could be going better.
[SPEAKER_01]: things didn't work out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now onto the cast, Knights joining the Imperium of Man.
[SPEAKER_02]: So after the Emperor brought Tara into the compliance with his thunder warriors, he set his eyes out in the galaxy at large.
[SPEAKER_02]: As he does, as he marshals together, his new space marine force and conquers Mars.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was a treaty.
[SPEAKER_01]: But still, the treaty said you worship me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he was ready to conquer.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just didn't need to do it.
[SPEAKER_02]: But he ran to a problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Emperor doesn't know where to go.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was out, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: But there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a million worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where should I go?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, let's stop from the fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's been over ten thousand years since last contact a lot of these, these worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: We had maps of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: We knew where they were there, but it's been ten thousand years.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it still there?
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it, you know, what's there now?
[SPEAKER_02]: So the handle situation, the emperor creates the very first warrants of trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: This creates a road trader class, which we covered the road traders before.
[SPEAKER_01]: Rouge traders, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a fun story in this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I said, Brad that Brad that notes this.
[SPEAKER_02]: So when we just I write the notes and he built the Brad and he goes, do you know you spelled road trader, Rouge trader every single time, which I said, nope.
[SPEAKER_01]: The part is you say it so many times in the episode for whatever reason.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's because I wrote it once and then the way I have I'm not saying you get wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying you use the word rogue.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like you were just trying to mess with me now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll go through his traders.
[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, um, so he creates the first rogue traders and as you guys heard me that cast, rogue traders were my favorite parts of the game.
[SPEAKER_02]: This was a genius model.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is incredible.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do we task these rogue traders, which now I'm reading as a rude traders, thanks Brad, with going out and exploring the galaxy and then reporting back to him and the Imperium what they find the darkness?
[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously a lot of them found death and like like almost all of you.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's that?
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just a bunch of people rushing out in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna go make a name for myself.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna go find my fortune and there are Warlord Psychers, demons, Eldar's orks ragdand.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's set are awaiting for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I assume like they're probably were like tens of thousands of warrants of trade that were done and like I buy this like ten rogue traders.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what is this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: The first one was the bump into the ragged end, must have been fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or just an oracle.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, are they friendly Zenos?
[SPEAKER_02]: Be to death with a stick.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to put in no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't go to the LV for twenty eight is I know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not friendly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not friendly.
[SPEAKER_02]: But there was one rogue trader.
[SPEAKER_02]: The extra is a militant, rogue trader militant, which I believe means his is a warrant of trade was for conquest, named Bastion Jeffers.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Bastion found does one of the most important discoveries, really, of this era, which is the world that is crisis.
[SPEAKER_02]: CHR-Y-S-I-S.
[SPEAKER_02]: the world of crisis.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, crisis is pretty cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually the first system when you leave salt to the bottom left.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Southwest of Seoul, which I just had to use the word Southwest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that you did that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it makes my heart skid?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Guru, you watch this.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, seven o'clock.
[SPEAKER_02]: Seven o'clock.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were at Seoul, and they left that good old seven o'clock year, which is.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was so happy when I first ran back.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, oh, John just embraced it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not embracing it.
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, at seven o'clock from Seoul is how you get crisis.
[SPEAKER_02]: So upon arriving crisis, Bastion knew he'd found a hell of a discovery.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a human settlement.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ten thousand years of darkness, they're thriving.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, with advanced technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: So upon arriving on crisis, past you knew he made a hell of a discovery.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a human settlement that's thriving after ten thousand years in a darkness.
[SPEAKER_02]: More importantly, though, it's ripe with technology that the imperium assumed had been lost.
[SPEAKER_02]: So by adding this, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
[SPEAKER_02]: with an asterisk.
[SPEAKER_02]: With a, with a saddest we're saying, hey, I found this world more importantly.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's the only one like this.
[SPEAKER_02]: We should find more of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the Imperium went, yeah, you know what?
[SPEAKER_02]: Good point, buddy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go find all of the night worlds before it, before they get this big up to this.
[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite part about this is apparently everything that's ever been done in the Imperium is somewhere in a box.
[SPEAKER_01]: You just not sure what warehouse the box is at.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we have this information.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where is it?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's somewhere around here.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the imperium immediately starts checking their old data slates for worlds that are marked as night worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it just started be lining to every single one of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And by be lining, I mean, they sent road traders to all of them, which they'd be lining.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they'd be lining some of them, they'd probably attack on the way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, there's another group there that was much more interested in all of this, and that's the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: So take a little break there and flip over to the legio titanica.
[SPEAKER_01]: You mean the coolest big nights?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is a big big nights.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have to be understandly that a little bit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Titanic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Titans are gigantic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the original STCs that were sent out of all the colonists and were designed and created on Mars back during the age of technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, most all STCs have their roots on Mars and what later became the Mechanicum and then the AdMec.
[SPEAKER_02]: The technology to create the walkers that were the nights were well-known to the Martians at that time, and actually still are even postage of strife.
[SPEAKER_02]: But in fact, actually a fine story, they kind of caused some problems for the Martians during the age of strife, but we'll get to that in a bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: because Mars was always built to be a manufacturing hub in a science hub for Earth.
[SPEAKER_02]: When the age of strife hit was so crazy about it was that Mars, even though it can see Earth, got isolated from Earth because Earth erupted in techno barbarian.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the place that you were watching go boom boom was responsible for feeding you one hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he,
[SPEAKER_02]: Oopsies, so all of a sudden Mars had basically no food.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not great.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and right afterwards, a massive civil war exploded.
[SPEAKER_01]: We covered this.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you should go, listen to past.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we did cover this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And when ends up happening, unfortunately, for Mars is, yeah, they don't have enough food.
[SPEAKER_02]: They start going to war with each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they blow up each other's terraformers, which weren't really terraformers as much they were atmosphere protectors.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they did a lot of kicking each other.
[SPEAKER_01]: for no, like, absolutely gain whatsoever.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were not cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, hey, I'm gonna break your stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm gonna break your stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do either one of us get anything out of this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: useless effectively.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone just kind of died and got irradiated.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll go last a ton of knowledge.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, massive amounts.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's during this time that, well, I'm sorry, it's because of this time that the Mechanicum are so obsessed with recovering STCs.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're literally trying to collect their own data.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, one of the big things is to talk about how bad it was.
[SPEAKER_01]: When I say they were doing stuff to spline each other, in these this internal civil war, other factions were targeting to try to make them lose their attack unbelievably spiteful.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a real thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're just like, hey, we might not win this.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to blow up your library basically.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so this is why Mars is obsessed with STC's.
[SPEAKER_02]: Interestingly though, they actually did retain a good amount of their knowledge and how to build nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: They did lose some of it, but a lot of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's interesting, though, is that they used it to build, this is more the age of Strythera, massive nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to figure out the origins of the Titans.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's written in the book the first time the Titans come out was actually when Mars got invaded.
[SPEAKER_02]: By an Azino race called a side Carnivara.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're just called, they refer to this only in the Codex.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're referred to as a debased cast of cabalistic heretics.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's in, that's in quotes there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they call it.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the mechanicum didn't couldn't deal with them with their conventional weaponry.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they built Titans, which very quickly won the war by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: But let's talk about how big a Titan is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because Titans are about five times a size of a normal night.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Warlord and Warmaster Titans are less battle robots and more world destroyers.
[SPEAKER_01]: These have entire, they're effective, say, walking cities.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the two things, if you want to quit comparison, you can do one or two things.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can have a Google Titan size comparison, just like Forty K Titan size comparison, and you'll see a pretty good graphic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or if you own a night or have a friend who has a night, put it on the ground and stand next to it, that's a tight.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's that you're the tight and difference.
[SPEAKER_02]: These things are incredible.
[SPEAKER_02]: The funny story about the idea like is that the emperor when he arrived on Mars and saw them was just was happy and a little bit concerned about them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Why do you have this?
[SPEAKER_02]: Why does this exist?
[SPEAKER_02]: And that the Imperium military, when they started to get deployed with them, referred to them as God engines, because when they opened fire, it felt like the power of a deity was coming to bear in the battlefront.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I will say, we didn't discuss it that well, but we have in the past, I'm not a hundred percent the technology from making titans didn't come from the void drag and that's sitting in the middle of their mind.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, just go call that out.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Mars, Mars had a couple, couple weird ones.
[SPEAKER_02]: How do you know how to create?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also wondering that I'm saying that loud.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that where the STC is came from?
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, no, that was before.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it wasn't, that void dragons been on Mars forever.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just, I'm thinking out loud now, but an STC, and they think of Necron technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like that there's an overlap there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean.
[SPEAKER_02]: background technology is that so all right way to go on our podcast we know technology yes the STC's are that may be a leave over from the background's work with us and people are going to say stuff about that
[SPEAKER_02]: They're welcome to come on to the discord and said I'm wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm wrong, I'll happily admit I'm wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a bad person.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, the issue at the Titans though is that they're not all positive and not like the other because they're secretly working with the
[SPEAKER_02]: an unclean one.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that their their size is an issue.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're very first off there incredibly hard to build.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a massive tax on resources and time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Secondly, piloting them is nightmarish.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's not just a pilot, it's a
[SPEAKER_01]: full crew.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, who also dies a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's a whole crew who are hardwired in along with servitors that are hardwired in, and they all have to interact with each other and share a consciousness again, Pacific Rim, but this also makes them really slow to move, whereas a night has a single pilot with a single thought they move pretty quickly.
[SPEAKER_02]: These titans are monstrous vehicles.
[SPEAKER_02]: But even if they did have a single pilot, they're also just too large to move.
[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, moving them around.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're larger than a lot of ships, the most ships in the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to take them somewhere, you have to take them apart, transport them, assemble them, and then make them of use, which means you can't use them for a beach head operation.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to make a beach front, land, build them up.
[SPEAKER_02]: make things even more complicated.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's not a lot of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the time of the heresy, even in the modern forty-k, there's less than four hundred of them existants.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which is semi-crazy, according to the game, because there's tightness all over the place.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, but there's, the thing is tighten battles, most of them have less than five in a battle, because one of them is enough.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the biggest problem, the biggest problem with them, though, is that for rural and rural work, two history buffs, the battleships that we had then, they've gone away.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's because they just require too much protection.
[SPEAKER_02]: So in order to make, well, use a World War One or World War Two, we're going to do more so because the, well, you both were out in the World War One still.
[SPEAKER_02]: In order to protect a battleship, you'd basically bring a fleet around it.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you're bringing a giant fleet to surround a one ship that's doing a bunch of damage.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is because they are still susceptible to small arms farm.
[SPEAKER_02]: These MSU, MSU, MSU units, minimums, what, I actually know what sense we're.
[SPEAKER_02]: Multiple scoring units.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that what it is?
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been using the term forever.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it is.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a multiple scoring unit.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you win straight to the words of the dark.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is.
[SPEAKER_02]: But what happens, where titans actually can become a really random problem is that they're made to fight one main opponent, another titan, massive fortification, and they'll blow through.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's big thing is they're supposed to blow fortifications.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're supposed to destroy other the opponents, big shit, and get inside their fortress.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the problem is that the opponent deploys a ton of small, fast-moving, getting terrible against it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they can, they can whittle it down and start taking, you know, they, so when ends up happening,
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that, you know?
[SPEAKER_02]: They had to employ them surrounded by imperial army troops or something even space marines.
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's fun about this though is even before the first night houses had been discovered, the mechanic him had been exploring the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because Mars had come out of their revolution, at least a few hundred and maybe a few thousand years, thousand years, for the few thousand years, for the few thousand years, and so they began searching the galaxy, because they also knew there was a bunch of stuff out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: The problem is that the Mechanicum had no navigators, so they couldn't move very quickly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Their options were basically to go it faster than life, like, or do these, they did have warp drives, really short warp drive, warp drive jumps.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the Mechanicum had a real problem at first because they didn't have a coherent structure.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they'd send these wildly inappropriate forces either to bigger, too small.
[SPEAKER_01]: They never knew what to send.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they constantly either
[SPEAKER_01]: had dedicated too many resources to going somewhere because they were so slow.
[SPEAKER_01]: They ended up in middle and nowhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hang out or they'd send John and Brad to go find out.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, there's bad stuff here.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just us, I guess we'll die.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, the fun part about the mechanical is that, but they actually were doing is they didn't even try to find old worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or if they were, they would do a terrible job of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Rather, they would look out, you know, using, I'm assuming they were super telescopes and some probes.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they were searching for worlds that were heavily mineral rich.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they just sent, they were shoot manufacturing equipment there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they would go and make these with a first forge world.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just the idea was with what Mars were as the emperor went to colonize the Galaxian and popated with humanity.
[SPEAKER_02]: The mechanic I'm just wanted more factories.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just want to make more shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to make a big I want to make bigger stuff faster and more of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they did not shoot terraforming.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a girl's sock.
[SPEAKER_02]: They really are.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a guy did laugh.
[SPEAKER_02]: We do a whole cast about how bad of the high of worlds were.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we got into four of your worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, yeah, actually we were wronged.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a significant worse version.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, why did you terraform this?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because it seemed dumb.
[SPEAKER_02]: But eventually, the Emperor unifies Tara and goes to Mars in the Treaty of Olympus's side, which I'm going to call out now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those who listen to that cast, when I didn't know why they called it the Treaty of Olympus, bunch of you and by a bunch of you, I mean, hundreds of you informed me, reminded me of Olympus Mons on Mars.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why it was called that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm happy to admit when I get stuff wrong and take that job.
[SPEAKER_02]: That one very wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, as part of this agreement, Mars was granted navigators by the emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: This allowed them to actually start traveling into the galaxy and reach a lot further things.
[SPEAKER_02]: So these forage worlds for then.
[SPEAKER_02]: turned over to become outposts for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They would use the four drills first as manufacturing hubs obviously, but they also use them as a bridge point to get further to the galaxy, but that bridge point would also rearm them on the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, when Mars went into the galaxy, Mars went
[SPEAKER_02]: Boom.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also started grabbing everything they could.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they did everything on the DL pretty much.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Nick just kind of just does their thing a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So let's talk about the night's joining the mechanical at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: So word gets back to the imperium of the discovery of crisis and the mechanical just goes
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and what?
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got STC drives, machine spirits, check guns, check big things, check, we're on our way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're on our way now.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's fun about this and they, they talk about in the codex is that what would actually begin next was a
[SPEAKER_02]: I think they've actually referred to as a Machiavellian campaign for control of these worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Mechanicum wanted the Night Worlds to be under them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of the more savvy members of the Imperium were like, absolutely not, these things nope.
[SPEAKER_02]: And because they both knew the Night Worlds would be massive multipliers to their forces, and both of them didn't trust that the other one would share the technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: And all those are correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hold to the fan.
[SPEAKER_01]: The ad back from the beginning has been sketchy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like, but they're both both.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not wrong either.
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't come and the appearance of both correct and not just the other one within that world.
[SPEAKER_01]: See, the ad neck has always been like, we're totally your ally unless I want to do something else.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'll do something else.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will say that
[SPEAKER_02]: The Mechanicum had a little bit of an advantage here.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Imperium didn't most have a chance in the night worlds together because it was agreed upon by the two parties that they would let each night world choose if they want to be part of like the forge worlds or part of the Imperium space.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Mechanicum held all of the cards.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also said, hey, you want us to make sure your nights have all the best equipment.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or you can be part of those guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I mean, that it actually was funny.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the mechanic I'm come out and say, hey, we can help you repair all of your nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: We can actually make them better than they were before.
[SPEAKER_02]: And all you we ask for in return is that you let us basically soup up your nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
[SPEAKER_02]: There was no backwards request.
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't like, you know, you still, as part of the mechanic, you would still, if you're part of Ford, would still had to pay your imperial ties.
[SPEAKER_02]: The mechanic am basically offered them, like, hey, we'll make everything that you care about most better.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what, what do we have to do?
[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, the experience kind of just offered protection and the night worlds we're going
[SPEAKER_01]: We're completely fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we've made it ten thousand years without you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like every single time somebody's come here, we'd be the shit out of that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And set them back.
[SPEAKER_02]: Although I will say there was a secret trick to the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in the back side, which we're going to get to in a minute.
[SPEAKER_02]: But in it, out the gate, yeah, they took all these night worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: They actually gave them more nights, because mostly worlds, by the way, they were having more people than they had the equals to drive.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the mechanic, I'm all said, yeah, we'll just give you all the nights you could possibly have.
[SPEAKER_02]: And those in the mechanicum did want back, was they didn't actually take it, they just wanted to basically make copies of the SEC's.
[SPEAKER_02]: So all in it was got to keep all their technology, but they got to share it back to the mechanicum.
[SPEAKER_02]: The mechanic exploded in technology.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's also one of the night worlds didn't even realize what they had.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they were so locked into this.
[SPEAKER_02]: We've always had that.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: The night worlds are sitting there on team like, oh, yeah, this stuff's always been there.
[SPEAKER_02]: So at this time, the mechanicum sent fleets, just massive fleets into the systems where the night roads and all those surrounding.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they basically took whatever there was a night road and they would find every planet or asteroid in the system and convert it over to a forward road.
[SPEAKER_02]: So these became four systems.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they made everything like, hey, is that bigger than one foot across?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to have a factory on it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, for all the good, the mechanic I was doing in class of mechanic in fashion, there was an underhanded sight.
[SPEAKER_01]: What?
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe that John, that seems very unlikely.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like them to do this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the sacrosan, sacristhen's, sacrosan's, sacrosan's, sacrosan's, it's a Latin word.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: So as we discussed last week, the noble houses, they had engineers that worked in the night.
[SPEAKER_02]: These people did everything from replacing damaged armor, repairing connections, changing armaments, even clean and paint them.
[SPEAKER_02]: In the night houses, they were called sacristan's.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it makes no sense, obviously, that across
[SPEAKER_02]: thousands of worlds, everyone has the exact same name.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it does because they were basically given information by the machine spirits that they were already in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it's fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually not there's crap.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've of crap on G. W. I say you've crap don't worry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is yet this one.
[SPEAKER_02]: This one.
[SPEAKER_02]: It would have been a lot harder to write it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Look at every world.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have a different name because then G. W would have written out a different name.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was a name.
[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't really matter.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the interesting thing is, I didn't realize this till I went to type in secretion into my Microsoft Word, where I keep my right, right, right, my notes, because I'm that old.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't get the red squiggly line.
[SPEAKER_02]: So like, wait a minute, is this an actual word?
[SPEAKER_02]: So I looked it up.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it is, it's an actual, it's the name of people of the people who work in a church and maintain all the sacred parts of a church.
[SPEAKER_02]: The vestments, the vestments, the vessels.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's basically their job to make sure the church service can always happen.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know this crap.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make you bring this up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yeah, man.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not all of us grew up in a weirdly Catholic household.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Catholic school.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's right, friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: To the Catholic school, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like, of course.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I did not.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have so much knowledge that I don't want.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think she's the best description of the Catholic school.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would spend ten years in Catholic school.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have a bunch of information.
[SPEAKER_02]: I really wish wasn't to take up a space in my brain.
[SPEAKER_01]: I live in a rent free.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is just there.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, I will crush any trivia that you throw at me.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so the sacristan's had a critical job, and so the mechanicum did was they offered some pretty amazing assistants here.
[SPEAKER_02]: They said to all the night worlds, well, we'll take all of your aspiring sacristan's and we'll train them with all the knowledge of the mechanicum, turning them into basically super mechanics.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's in the third year century, let alone the first century, having imperial tech, you won a hundred percent when an ad-meck worked on it.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are objectively the best option outside of a Joe Carroll.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Joe Carroll, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Joe Carroll wins.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the problem is, though, Joe Carroll is also going to build, he's going to work on your technology, then so get bored, take it apart, turn into a microwave, take it apart again, and turn into a movie theater, watch it movie, take it apart, and then make it into a movie theater, watch it movie, take it apart, and then make it into a movie theater, watch it movie, take it apart, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater, and then make it into a movie theater.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it makes popcorn.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to do all that while a person's inside of it, because it's a chocaro.
[SPEAKER_02]: The person will survive, but it'd be very confused.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was a microwave for a period of time.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand what just happened.
[SPEAKER_02]: So every time the forge world would ship with dock on the planet, they'd do this exchange of supplies.
[SPEAKER_02]: It would take a bunch of the aspiring sacrosstans with them.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the decade or so later, the sacrifms would return fully trained.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they would do some really impressive work.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, these new ones, the night's function better than ever.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're faster, stronger, the weapon reads are better.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everything is there because the sacrifms are caught all the best knowledge of technology in the galaxy, specifically the night's.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what they didn't read?
[SPEAKER_01]: The terms and conditions.
[SPEAKER_01]: You shouldn't go down and collect except.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're making the South Park.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, let's go.
[SPEAKER_02]: Human, human, centipede reference.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the truth is the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm didn't make terms and conditions.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just did things.
[SPEAKER_02]: So during the decade long training, these sacrifices were implanted with mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm tech.
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, which is not a good thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then indoctrinated as cult members.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they the very quickly were spies the mechanical and then a whole lot more, which is this is the cool part.
[SPEAKER_02]: Over time, the sacristans begin to speak with one voice with each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas, you know, the nobles used to elish the order them around in the sac.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now the seconds are pushing back.
[SPEAKER_02]: We can not one, all of them at once.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you don't know the song solidarity forever, I've had Pete Seeger.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm humming that in my brain while I was writing these notes.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've had to make cake.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I just did.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not long before the nobility and up-sacrificing a lot of their power to the sacrosstance in this sense of just control of the garment.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is a really clever maneuver by the mechanicum to now be able to control the night worlds via these vassals.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because without the sacrosstance, nobles can't use the knot.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, there's stuff for work.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, because I turn off all of your stuff, so they had to capitulate.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so the sacrifice hands on all those worlds start to take up a seat on the council or the court, whatever whatever the governing body was.
[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't get enough power though to actually rule it, but they got enough voice to at least influence the council.
[SPEAKER_02]: But even more nefarious by the mechanic them is they were also trained how to interact with nobility to play all of their needs and it wasn't even the tribe.
[SPEAKER_01]: They downloaded exactly what the response is.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a chip in their brain that probably goes back to most of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because now I will say this isn't all negative though.
[SPEAKER_02]: When we say mechanicum did this, it's not because of the mechanicum.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the mechanicum are evil, but this isn't the whole thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are evil.
[SPEAKER_02]: But this wasn't undiferous purpose.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the big problems with the night worlds is the side effect where all of them are extremely obsessed with honor and highly competitive.
[SPEAKER_02]: This meant means that, on a, if a night world knew that there was a battle to be had, they would often run to it.
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of them's creating other losing or at best per-point of a purex victory.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the mechanism, you're using the sacrifice to control them and basically get them to influence the council, stop them is rushing off the war at the first, you know, slight.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the big thing of this is, though, is not everybody joined the beginning.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because you go along with what you're saying here.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of the big things is that there is a holy crusade to take back the galaxy for humanity.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these are people that are dove, they're fully moved by honor and the ability to show us the people.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the most honored.
[SPEAKER_02]: And also, I mean, this went ten thousand years in the war.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, who doesn't look very human, the mechanical, who does the emperor?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of them did join the emperor, although I will admit, most of them still did get sacred stands.
[SPEAKER_02]: So to this, to Brad's point there, yeah, we're, we're siding with the emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're, you know, I'm odd or bound, but I'm also still got the same guys influencing my council.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm just saying that they, it wasn't real hard to get them going into the crusade.
[SPEAKER_02]: with this now happening and the night's joining the Imperium, the vast majority joined the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so whether you're, whether you, you were aligned with the Imperium directly in the containment directly, this, it was a bit, it basically the same function.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the first thing that happened is each of them was given a grade.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the grade was based on how many nights they could feel in the combat.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're all Latinists, secundous, maximists, primus, et cetera.
[SPEAKER_01]: Going to get ready for the show, I did not know.
[SPEAKER_01]: that the Imperium had this many nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this was a surprise.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what they found was, and so now they have, they do and don't have a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: In a sense that the numbers of nights they have is probably in the thousands in total.
[SPEAKER_02]: But these are, but one night is equal to like, I don't know, a ten million guardsmen.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're never crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, but like, some of the houses have up to six hundred.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, most like that was so far beyond what I thought.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm about to meet you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, I just, I saw a number and I had to check to go to access and make that right.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what I will say is that, yeah, most of that, the average was two hundred nights on do a house, which is a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, they couldn't always deploy two hundred at one time.
[SPEAKER_02]: They may only have two hundred, but still.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, think about a forty-k battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can fit two big guys and six little guys or thirteen little guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's.
[SPEAKER_02]: And these guys had hundreds.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's crazy for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just so many.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you talk about how they would be used.
[SPEAKER_02]: Looks was interesting is that them is primarily the nights were still under in combat.
[SPEAKER_02]: They would still get a line most closely with the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, we'll dive more to the imperium in a second.
[SPEAKER_02]: But as we said before, the mechanic goes to war with their titans and they had an issue.
[SPEAKER_02]: The titans were great against fortification of the titans, but against smaller and scattered forces, they could just get, you know, but they wait a dice.
[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't even just one of the things that was the biggest about this is they weren't even just getting taken down.
[SPEAKER_01]: They were just really ineffective versus scattering like if you just put mass nonsense around them, they were just really shitty at dealing with
[SPEAKER_02]: You're mass nonsense.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're slow and the guns, you know, shoot it in one area and blow up that area.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then they have to rearm and go somewhere else.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the mechanic comes started, you know, they've been using imperial army and space marines, but it's just these are two different in a fight, the speed with which a Titan can move.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's a slow walker.
[SPEAKER_02]: Each step's like a mile.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the troops and the tanks have to just hustle.
[SPEAKER_02]: They got there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so how do you battle plan with a god machine and then surrounded by random dudes on foot?
[SPEAKER_02]: So you need something in between.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is where the nights really came into play.
[SPEAKER_02]: First off, you know, the nights would be used just to walk along side to tightness as an escort.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the tightness can focus on the big stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the nights would focus on some of the smaller stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they could take out small mobile platforms, you know, troops who are repositioning like I got heavy lads cannon in pop-mouth.
[SPEAKER_02]: The next one, and this is an odd one, this again, this out of the codex, is they would use them for scouting.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have to assume when they wrote this, they meant like not like a night sneaking through a forest.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like, oh, it's a very sneaky night, where just it's more is walk up in the position where every single enemy goes, hey, there's a giant robot coming this way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's shoot it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is sneaky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very sneaky.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can't see me.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was more like they would send them out to spring the traps where the enemies who were hiding, it send the night out, the night out, to spring the traps of the Titans and the Knights who then just eliminate whatever was there.
[SPEAKER_02]: This way, like you build a super trap for a Titan, now you're just fighting and you're going to blow that night up, but you're going to die a horrible death as a result of it, and that Knights worth less to the Imperian than the Titan was obviously.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the third and most important one of the lights was actually flank protection.
[SPEAKER_02]: They would deploy them wide out into the flanks.
[SPEAKER_02]: And as the Titans would advance, they could then use the Knights to either swing around and come in behind, or they could just kind of keep enemies at bay who are trying to get in behind the Titans.
[SPEAKER_02]: And all of these, you know, worked perfectly by the way for the night pilots.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this was basically a match made in heaven.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're out there fighting the good fight against the enemies, they're protecting the people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately, they're defending them versus cowards that wouldn't fight exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they're going out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And these are the pilots, the nights are just loving this because they're engaging in glorious combat, showing off their skills and kind of making a name for themselves.
[SPEAKER_02]: And now the mechanic, by the way, took good care of the night roads who were with them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They gave them
[SPEAKER_02]: So many resources.
[SPEAKER_02]: To the point where a lot of these feudal lords were massively more powerful and wealthier than planetary governors.
[SPEAKER_02]: But unlike the planetary governors, they were these are warrior kings.
[SPEAKER_02]: So even though they're incredibly wealthy, they weren't as susceptible to corruption.
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, I will say in my unit, these apps are that realized, Knight Worlds are actually pretty good places to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're legit.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's maybe the best place to tell you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you lose some breath?
[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_02]: You live until either.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no one to go about up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I will be the Lord of Toledo.
[SPEAKER_02]: Toledo, Ohio.
[SPEAKER_02]: You live on that looks a power plant.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Go for it, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, for the non-mechanicum align nights, they took on a bit more of an inverse role.
[SPEAKER_02]: As opposed to being being the support, they actually were the hammer.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the titans are deployed and the knights fund us alongside them.
[SPEAKER_02]: For the ones in the imperial world, it's more often than not, they were the titan, and they were supported by infantry and armor, even space marines.
[SPEAKER_02]: These battles were obviously different.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is something where you're not fighting someone who's got heavy fortifications that require to be blown through.
[SPEAKER_02]: And, but yeah, it's just kind of a cool little side note.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can be though, because some of the big nights pack a real punch.
[SPEAKER_02]: Compared to a warlord, Titan?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm saying, compared to... Yeah, compared to a tank, compared to a tank.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the predator auto cannon doesn't quite hold up against the volcano line.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I'm just saying.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, what did you shoot?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not there either.
[SPEAKER_01]: Who cares?
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, the, at the time of, you know, the great crusade, the vast majority were aligned with the mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: This does change in what we're about to get into, which is the horse-harroth.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like all parts of the Imperium, the nighthouses were heavily affected by the horse-harracy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dem and the Titan League, it's actually to be fair.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, at the outbreak of the heresy, the nighthouses just got ripped apart by competing royalties.
[SPEAKER_02]: Horace and his legions converted most of their supply systems to their cost.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if you were attached to deathguard, you end up all the deathguard plants joined with it.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the mechanics split about a sixty forty rate.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's because as we saw it's talked about before, the mechanical became the dark mechanical.
[SPEAKER_02]: About sixty percent of Mars, the mechanical went to a horse.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I've underused faction.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dark Mechanicum are very much so.
[SPEAKER_02]: The nighthouses though were always independent bodies, so while they were loyal to the mechanic, or loyal to the Imperium, or some guess even loyal to what became a trader, they never, it wasn't a fealty.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was up to them to choose where they were going to go.
[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, a bunch did choose headquarters.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the reasons were all over the place.
[SPEAKER_02]: There were a lot of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was actually honor.
[SPEAKER_02]: They agreed with Horos that the Emperor had betrayed honor.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it was more honorable to be going kill the Emperor for betraying honor.
[SPEAKER_02]: Others were aligned with the Mechanicum and, you know, and, again, agreed with the Mechanicum that the Emperor had betrayed the Mechanicum.
[SPEAKER_02]: And therefore, they should do that.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then if you want to have a fun one, read the book, Vengeful Spirit, and you can hear about a night world that gets corrupted by Slonesh.
[SPEAKER_02]: that also did happen quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a cool book also.
[SPEAKER_02]: It involves more tearing, turning, grow, gore into the life eater virus.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: That book's got some, like, whoa.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not great stuff happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So as the war gets going, chorus and the loyalists both have the power of nights at their side.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because these says, you know, this is critical.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of siege warfare happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, to be fair, it's almost, I can't say almost all.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot, a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: because each side is trying to take away the ability for the other side to make work.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and in nights and tightens, serve both as fortifications and fortified fortification destroyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the challenge is, for example, if you can deploy tightens against a heavily fortified world, they'll blow through the fortifications.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if the fortified world has tightens at their own or nights at their own, they can blow up the tightens.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this became, it just, again, it was an arms race.
[SPEAKER_02]: And for this reason, like the night worlds were less sparred by the Horace Harrisy conflict than really any other worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: Agree worlds, high worlds, all of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were attacked by Horace and his legion if they made logistical sense, either to supply him or to critically affect the supplies of his enemies.
[SPEAKER_02]: But a small agree world on an assistant
[SPEAKER_02]: went through the horse heresy, effectively untouched unless a siker had to be born there.
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was the issue.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because of that world's poses immediate threat, horse had to deal with.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so in this way, horse's goal was to basically make them either a, hold their forces back to protect their home planet, therefore keeping them from the final assault.
[SPEAKER_01]: or it's two things.
[SPEAKER_01]: They would either hold their forces so they couldn't stop them from assaulting Terra or he wanted them on their side so they could assault Terra.
[SPEAKER_01]: And because of this, the Night Worlds
[SPEAKER_01]: got wrecked.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, they got demolished outside of space Marines.
[SPEAKER_02]: They probably have took the head finished the war with the whole side.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just said neither one of us can, you know, if I can't have it, no one can.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what I say ties number of casualties there, what I mean is not like number, obviously Imperial citizens died more than anybody else, but like percentages was the percent like the space Marines were down like
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if you factor in all the fifty percent of that just left, there was less than twenty percent of the space in the middle of the war.
[SPEAKER_02]: Knights, I think were even worse than that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the battles weren't epic.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the biggest ones is beta-garmon.
[SPEAKER_02]: On beta-garmon, you saw, it's the largest titan-fighting history.
[SPEAKER_02]: The book of things, Age of Darkness, is what, and in this battle, you know, primarks are there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Horus is there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, Jack and Icon is there randomly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because because it's a horse heresy and the white scars matter and the horse heresy for some reason I mean in this though horses coming Doran's trying to do his whole defense thing and they had all of their the largest Titans in the galaxy were at this one that was anyway again it was clever move by Doran because Doran didn't want the god machines fighting on soul even in so let alone Terra because you know
[SPEAKER_02]: with the reactor blows up he could take the planet right so he put them all in this planet beta garment my system beta garment just outside of soul and
[SPEAKER_02]: Horace showed up and they had titan fight.
[SPEAKER_02]: And at the end of the titan fight, ball of titans were destroyed, basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: What's what happens when you shoot beams of death?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, from eight, from eight, a military standpoint, it was the second largest battle of the heresy outside of Terra from the, they just need the side and scope of the war.
[SPEAKER_01]: They've so much destruction, because one of the biggest things about the titans is, while they have defenses,
[SPEAKER_01]: They punch so much harder than they can take.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because of the just ridiculousness of the weapons or just childish, and also just shoot the leg and the whole thing's useless.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, also yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I want to focus on two other things that a court occurred during the heresy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Besides the fact that you missed the chance to say sweet the leg, Johnny?
[SPEAKER_01]: No kind of fan.
[SPEAKER_01]: No kind of fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was great.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna tell you the book is terrible.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not good.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, there are some movies in the eighties that are incredible.
[SPEAKER_02]: Glees absolutely incredible movie, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Karate Kid is not one of those movies.
[SPEAKER_02]: for everyone's knowledge, Brad just did the crane pose.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: But he did it from a chair because I don't think he could balance on one leg.
[SPEAKER_02]: But both his hands above his head and actually hold that pose and not fall over.
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're neurologist does.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's time travel.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so the first thing I want to focus on is actually another battle that occurred near the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: Why only less cool battle?
[SPEAKER_02]: But it speaks to modern forty came.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yes, it's initially it is a more of a forty-k battle.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so as we discussed before the night's world of crisis was discovered, it's just outside of soul.
[SPEAKER_02]: So crisis was heavily reinforced and built up as a feudal world, and then the Knights there took on a new name.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was the name crash, I guess it was the name of the family that had been there.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the Knights of House Crest spread out throughout the galaxy, because they were the first one to be fortified, and just said before, the mechanic was just pumping
[SPEAKER_02]: Just chuck at nights.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so these guys just got loaded up with, you know, with this is like America World War II style.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were just pumping these out.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the nights of house crafts spread throughout the entire galaxy to go and, you know, fight for the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: As Horace starts moving towards closer and closer to Saul, the Knights of House Crest assumed their homeworld would be safe.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's just, it's basically next to Saul.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they assume Dorn and the defenders wouldn't let the traitors get close or the traitors would just ignore it on their way to Saul.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is said in that story, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's an actual quote that they will surely the forces of Dord would let.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wouldn't let that that the nights of house crass down.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they totally did.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they have to no one there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Horace got close to it, but did realize this world was full of nights and he was so close to soul.
[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't want to take any time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Horace at this stage in, it's also important to note.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he accepted that he was not going to conquer the galaxy after killing the emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: He realized, because he'd stopped folks and logistics.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just wanted to get to salt before Lehman, Line, and Gelliman did.
[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of this, I don't think that Horace was brilliant and had a great plan.
[SPEAKER_01]: And at the end, he was too fully corrupted because if they go into, if you read the books at the end of the aristocracy, Horace is just mad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Horace, he's broken too.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's, but I'm saying, he's just, oh, you mean mad like he's gone crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's insane.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, he's insane.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're, you're, you're, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that like it, this doesn't even matter.
[SPEAKER_01]: He had a great plan.
[SPEAKER_01]: Horace is amazing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but by the addition, by the time they got this soul, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he cares.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's just coming to kill the other and just show him he's better.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he sees crisis and what he's worried about with the crisis is that crisis will kind of chase him and end into to protect his flank.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he just virus bombs the planet into oblivion.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just never good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so after the heresy, the Knights of House Crest returned home to find it a wasteland.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they all take up one thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that is revenge.
[SPEAKER_02]: They because they failed.
[SPEAKER_02]: The number one goal of these nobles is to protect their subjects.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they they're only thing they're supposed to.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's only to and they failed miserably.
[SPEAKER_02]: Their subjects were slaughtered and they were nowhere to be hurt seen.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess there's a lot of more so they were
[SPEAKER_02]: Boyhold, spoiled and burnt to death, then exploded, so he didn't go great.
[SPEAKER_02]: The monsters inside out, and it exploded.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that seems bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just so as a result, the Knights of House crashed, vowed at the end of a heresy to snuff out chaos any time it's detected.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this is interesting, whether or not it made tactical sense, because ten thousand years after this, Knights of House Crest are still looking for a fight with chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's tons of stories of like chaos will appear, and Knights of House Crest just deploy.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they don't care.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's rushed about on just the destroy chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's all they want to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they're not the coolest part.
[SPEAKER_02]: They came out of the horrors heresy.
[SPEAKER_02]: The coolest part to me are the freeblades.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which used to do, they still have action.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, we're not going to get into that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Was it eighth or ninth when they were good?
[SPEAKER_02]: Eighth or ninth?
[SPEAKER_02]: Eighth or ninth?
[SPEAKER_02]: I just love free play.
[SPEAKER_02]: So in the last cast, piloting a note of a piloting a night is a different experience.
[SPEAKER_02]: The pilots basically get to kind of leave reality and they sit in their throne mechanic and just get to do what they love to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: the return of warp travel and join the imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the pilots of the nights, just decided they didn't want to, they got lost in the way home.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, because it sucks, compared.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they didn't want to say, it's decided just to go out.
[SPEAKER_02]: and wage war and gain glory all on their own.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they were known as freeblades.
[SPEAKER_02]: So these nights would, to their credit, they would give up their family names and leave their houses and all their legacies.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they would just go off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some did it just because they were bored.
[SPEAKER_02]: Others did it because there was some sort of like peninsert disgrace that they felt.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it doesn't matter if it's a real one.
[SPEAKER_02]: It could just be a one that it was whatever.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and during the Horace heresy, these free blades were even more common because a house would declare for Horace and the individuals would say, yeah, no, grab their night and f off.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what was cool about this is that when they would do this, they wouldn't just go solo, by the way, they would actually go and, you know, and grab all of their, their retinue, retinue, we think of their whole retinue with them, you know, and they get a spaceship.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they would just go into the galaxy solo.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it took flight.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's like a lot of people that come.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you know, it's not you're in a night with two guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, it's you, your night, your sacrosstans, your crew, the ship that's transporting you around.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're kind of like rogue traders, but a night, and I'm doing all of I can not to make Don Quixote references here because they weren't fighting random windmills tilting at them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but if you
[SPEAKER_02]: Do read Don Quixote, which you should, which you should.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so good.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the paintings there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't done this for a second.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have a Don Quixote painting in my basement.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like Don Quixote a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what's crazy about the free blades is they just appear randomly in a battle to aid imperial forces and then leave.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like a basically like a lone space wolf, just wandering the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: A little wolf.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a lone wolf.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, just looking for problems, and then just kicking ass.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you don't know the song Big Bear, he's, you know, big, I'm tough, big, you know, you know, taking off super troopers.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just super troopers.
[SPEAKER_03]: Later in the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: I stole this day every time I see a police car pull a semi-truck over on the side of the road, I want to see soap.
[SPEAKER_02]: So there have been thousands, likely more of these free blades through them, millennia.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's tons of stories then during the horrors, heresy showing up, but even but more so host heresy, just arriving randomly in a battle and the free blades themselves, just turning the tide.
[SPEAKER_02]: This has turned them into a pseudo folk hero, arriving just at the time, walking off into this sunset basically.
[SPEAKER_02]: as the citizens view these free blades with like joy and awe because they're almost they're kind of like an example of the emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: And in the these cool stories of like a fallen free blade on on a planet will get turned into a like sacred sight.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also join a lot of other just fights.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just fight on the imperial side.
[SPEAKER_01]: You see a lot of sisters imperial guard.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then suddenly a free blade gets to appear.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then what's especially with sisters, you're going to example, but guard as well, what happened is that free blades starts to represent the emperor because it's the emperor intervening on their behalf by sending this god machine to save them.
[SPEAKER_02]: But let's go into nights and.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we discussed between the free blades and houses like housecast.
[SPEAKER_02]: right after the Horace Harrisy.
[SPEAKER_02]: All the nights joined team Lehman Russ.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they didn't.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one equipped to shovel everyone put more guns.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Gilliman did not have a lot of nights around him when he was ready to write the codex of star days and read and sing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's focus on logistics again, big shut up nerd to him from the nighthouses as they all came.
[SPEAKER_02]: rocketing into the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't matter how far they had to go.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were chasing down all chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were going to scour the teeth from the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they did that for a couple thousand years by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which I actually would argue was really great for the Imperium.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, forces of chaos are out there having to run away from Lehman Ross and the Lion and them is one thing, but they were still a pretty beat up force.
[SPEAKER_02]: adding the Knights to that force and some Titan legions made it a lot nastier of like, oh crap.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the Knights and these Space Marines are chased now chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: This allowed at least the core of the Imperium to start to rebuild and reform, especially the Mechanicum, because the Mechanicum had to purge from its ranks.
[SPEAKER_02]: All of them was the dark.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to tell you right now, as usual, something you can't see is I rolled my eyes pretty hard.
[SPEAKER_01]: I encourage the ranks of the Dark Mechanicum by what going, hey, raise your hand if you're part of the Dark Imperium.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody raised their hand.
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess everybody's not a heritage.
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually think they went that far.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think they did.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because a bunch of people raise their hand.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they want you to put your hand down.
[SPEAKER_02]: A bunch of people would have totally raised their hands.
[SPEAKER_02]: No one's working besides you on the night time shift.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think they just sent out a memo saying,
[SPEAKER_02]: All of you agree you weren't part of the dark mechanic, um, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's no way to actually reply.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes or no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not a reply.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really happy that none of you are part of the dark mechanic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's the email.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I got sent down.
[SPEAKER_01]: You wrote that.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's just like.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They really purge their foes forces of the dark and period.
[SPEAKER_02]: But as the scouring turned into this war with no end, a lot of the night worlds began to focus back on being night worlds again.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they knew they had challenges, just like logistics and all those things.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they began to rebuild their forces.
[SPEAKER_02]: And just as all things in the Imperium, since the Emperor and Bobby G went down, it had gotten a lot worse within the night worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: The good news is the nights were pretty well attuned to this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the galaxy around them, come on out to be, to be far, nights already withdrew this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Night worlds exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the night worlds as the rest of the galaxy's kind of burning, the night worlds are holding or holding steady, especially as some of the nights are coming back.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's only a couple thousand years, the nights are returning back to their home worlds.
[SPEAKER_02]: The home roads are holding on, but right about this point, Gilliman gets taken out by Fogrum.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're going to start down this whole path of the rise, the Ecclesiarchy, Gayship, and goes, all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: The night roads
[SPEAKER_02]: when they need to turn inward, do a very, very good job of turning inward.
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the noble houses begin to protect all the people and say them.
[SPEAKER_02]: So now at the first millennia, the night worlds are once again one of the key parts.
[SPEAKER_01]: They also are the Imperial of those night worlds.
[SPEAKER_01]: went back to hundreds of nights again.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and so they're massive forces.
[SPEAKER_02]: So now as we talked about in a couple episodes again, the return of Gelliman, one interesting thing about nights is that they're a massive feature for the Imperium to be able to kind of fight back into.
[SPEAKER_02]: They got the Primeras Marines.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they brought back the plants for missions.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which is a big deal with nights coming out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I will admit that may have felt rushed the last few minutes of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just kind of the way night lore is written.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very anti-climactic.
[SPEAKER_02]: The nights have a lot of stuff pre, you know, in the age of technology.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then they have a good amount of stuff kind of going into the Great Crusade and into the Horus Heresy, but post-heresy, there's not that much.
[SPEAKER_02]: They can show up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, because they haven't changed a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: The whole thing is all the night culture that exists post-horus Heresy is a same night culture.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just pre-heresy.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's why for those who listen to like, I was kind of a quick ending.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's just the night lore is night origins, night culture, and then the night vehicles themselves.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which is cool though, because they are just maintaining the traditions that they've had now for what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Twenty thousand years.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what makes them fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's where they are now.
[SPEAKER_02]: So next week we're going to take a bit of a left turn.
[SPEAKER_02]: And actually, I think we're going to do, let's do the dark age technology and age of strength.
[SPEAKER_02]: This talk with us has been fun and Brad has to get some
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually was going to do my window is go from here to Lords of Terra.
[SPEAKER_02]: But Brad's had now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Brad's having a right out of surgery.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you're going to try to make me do that's why words of terror.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why Brad was really going to have a procedure on his heart not a subtle one on like a when I got Tuesday.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I'm Friday is to make it talk about Lords of Terra for three hours.
[SPEAKER_01]: You will actually kill me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would die.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to something fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: and we're going to talk about the age of technology in the age of strife, men of iron, all that stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: So Brad has nothing to do with his terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm mad not.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's mad not.
[SPEAKER_02]: I worked there work really well.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually a great bread.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just ruined Brad's day by talking about something we're not going to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to drive home from your house and think about the loser terror.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to get a traffic for sure.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is the Lord's of Terran where the Lord's of Terran are going to have you get caught in traffic.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Lord's of Terran, if you're not, they do not care about.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it in the ninety-six?
[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know where I live.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, are they two seventy five to seventy five?
[SPEAKER_02]: Fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's not the one on one of the two eighty.
[SPEAKER_02]: So those are my freeways for for twenty years.
[SPEAKER_02]: I the one on one, the two eighty and the eighty seven.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now I've got that stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: It had I ninety five for a bit, but never had to get on it because I was I was in the city.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just was it was present.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's only a thousand miles from anywhere.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea where we're at.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, with that, this has been John Barsati and Brad Chester.
[SPEAKER_02]: This guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll see you guys next week.
[UNKNOWN]: you
