WEBVTT 00:00:19.269 --> 00:00:19.739 Hello, everybody. 00:00:19.739 --> 00:00:24.269 Welcome back to another episode of the lunatic radio hour podcast. 00:00:25.089 --> 00:00:28.350 I'm Abby, Brer sitting here with Alan Codan. Hello. 00:00:29.129 --> 00:00:37.829 And today we have, I hate to say it because we've set up before, but I think this is going to be our biggest series yet. 00:00:39.030 --> 00:00:40.829 Uh, at least our biggest footed series. 00:00:41.829 --> 00:00:42.789 Ah, very good. 00:00:43.490 --> 00:00:45.189 Really? <laugh> that was a, that. 00:00:45.189 --> 00:00:46.030 Was, I wasn't. 00:00:46.030 --> 00:00:48.189 Expecting that. That was some low hanging fruit right there. Well. 00:00:48.450 --> 00:00:50.710 You, you, the delivery was nice. It was smooth. 00:00:51.710 --> 00:00:52.542 You're very easy audience. 00:00:52.890 --> 00:01:00.310 As you know, because you have clicked on the episode, we are kicking off a big foot series. Will it be two episodes? 00:01:00.310 --> 00:01:03.549 Will it be three? Well, it be four only time will tell. 00:01:03.929 --> 00:01:06.230 Really. You think we're gonna get more than two? 00:01:06.659 --> 00:01:07.829 Well, we have Bigfoot stories. 00:01:08.170 --> 00:01:11.549 Oh wow. I didn't realize there's so much to say about Bigfoot. 00:01:11.549 --> 00:01:20.430 There's a lot to say. And let me say this. When I started this research, I really didn't believe in Bigfoot at all. I really didn't. Oh geez. Here. 00:01:20.670 --> 00:01:24.230 I thought that it was sort of a silly crypted. Yep. 00:01:25.109 --> 00:01:32.829 I have now drank the Kool-Aid and I am going to present to you over the course of the next several episodes. 00:01:33.379 --> 00:01:46.390 Very well researched and outlined evidence and proof from first hand encounters to physical evidence, a you always say, whereas the evidence you don't believe in ghosts, you don't. Well, I'm gonna give you the evidence today. 00:01:47.189 --> 00:01:50.430 Uh, this is gonna be a tough sell. 00:01:47.189 --> 00:01:50.430 Okay. Tell, tell me right now. 00:01:50.549 --> 00:01:52.390 I think Bigfoot is dumb as hell. 00:01:53.290 --> 00:01:55.590 Wow. You've just upset a lot of people. 00:01:55.909 --> 00:01:56.730 I, I know. 00:01:56.730 --> 00:02:00.629 I'm gonna isolate that sound bite. 00:01:56.730 --> 00:02:00.629 Okay. Blast it out on social media. 00:02:01.269 --> 00:02:04.230 I understand that. That might upset some people. Yeah, that's fine. 00:02:04.689 --> 00:02:08.550 Can I say this? Sure. Just to give you a sense of the landscape here. Yeah. 00:02:09.270 --> 00:02:12.710 I put out yesterday and today poles. 00:02:13.349 --> 00:02:14.590 That's what you're gonna say. Bigfoot traps. 00:02:14.990 --> 00:02:22.469 <Laugh> no, I would never, I put out poles on Twitter and Instagram and I simply asked, do you believe in Bigfoot? Yes or no? 00:02:23.150 --> 00:02:26.949 I was floored both on Instagram and on Twitter. 00:02:27.629 --> 00:02:29.949 Overwhelming majority said yes. 00:02:30.590 --> 00:02:35.229 I think you got a strong reaction from a vocal minority. 00:02:36.289 --> 00:02:42.189 Do, do you know a lot about Bigfoot legend, Bigfoot mythology? 00:02:42.449 --> 00:02:53.629 No. It's everyone knows that one clip of like big foot walking Uhhuh <affirmative> and like MythBusters took it apart. Like, oh, look at the gate. It's slightly different from here. It's a guy in a suit. 00:02:54.060 --> 00:02:55.870 Well, we're gonna talk about that at length today. 00:02:56.189 --> 00:03:01.039 I understand the Pacific Northwest is a large area. Yeah, right? Yeah. 00:03:01.500 --> 00:03:19.840 I'm sure there's lots of species there that are not yet discovered, but most of those are insects or very, if they're mammalian, they're very, very small to have a giant alpha predator in the area that, and they still can't confirm its actual existence. No, I mean. 00:03:19.840 --> 00:03:22.479 I, what if they don't wanna be caught and they're highly intelligent. 00:03:23.460 --> 00:03:26.960 I'm gonna temperature check with you at the end of this and see how you. 00:03:26.960 --> 00:03:29.479 Feel. Sure. I mean, yeah. I'm coming in with an open mind. 00:03:29.939 --> 00:03:31.360 Are you? Yes, it sounds. 00:03:31.620 --> 00:03:34.759 Hey I'm I showed up, right? You said be here at this time and I'm here. 00:03:35.159 --> 00:03:39.599 <laugh> uh, so I'm here with an open mind. Okay. I've been swayed in the past. 00:03:40.080 --> 00:03:40.759 Yep. 00:03:40.759 --> 00:04:08.319 I thought moth man was pretty darn stupid Uhhuh <affirmative> and then we did the episode and I was swayed. I was swayed. I, I, I granted there were some external factors that I was able to pull for my own experiences. Yep. Uh, but after a thorough understanding of moth, man, that became is moth man crypted. Yes. Okay. So, uh, I, I don't know cuz it's like a, it's a bit more supernatural. 00:04:08.659 --> 00:04:12.800 Yes. It's crypted and it's so much more, but I think largely people think of it as encrypted. 00:04:12.960 --> 00:04:17.360 Okay. But Bigfoot is the, the is right up there with the Lochness monster. 00:04:17.778 --> 00:04:21.199 Yes. For like accessibility of crypted. Right. 00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:22.593 A thousand percent. 00:04:22.629 --> 00:04:26.600 Okay. Well Lochness monster mm-hmm<affirmative> I don't think is real. 00:04:26.750 --> 00:04:31.319 Okay. Well actually there's been some new developments in that case, so we'll have to talk about that at some point, too. 00:04:31.588 --> 00:04:33.040 Okay. Well, if. 00:04:33.629 --> 00:04:37.959 Some new archeological evidence, I should say in the Lochness monster case. 00:04:38.278 --> 00:04:40.278 So they, they found his, uh, Facebook page. 00:04:40.670 --> 00:04:58.879 They have found prehistoric dinosaur bones in other freshwater lakes, which lead them to believe that there could be the existence or at some point the existence of those sorts of prehistoric fish type animals in freshwater lakes. 00:04:59.180 --> 00:05:03.399 Listen, I went on a bike packing trip this last weekend. 00:05:03.800 --> 00:05:05.120 I like that term bike packing. 00:05:05.269 --> 00:05:12.120 Yeah. Well off a bike trail, nowhere near water, we found a rock that was very smooth. 00:05:12.990 --> 00:05:16.800 Clearly it had been in water Uhhuh yet we were nowhere near water. Okay. 00:05:16.980 --> 00:05:19.920 So things get places, you know? Okay. Yep. 00:05:20.240 --> 00:05:21.920 Does it doesn't mean the lock monster. 00:05:22.199 --> 00:05:28.120 Is real pebble and a whole huge skeletal remains are a little bit different, but okay. 00:05:28.519 --> 00:05:31.519 I think the pebble that took down Goliath would, uh, beg to differ. 00:05:31.899 --> 00:06:03.560 Wow. Okay. Well, why don't we cool off and get into some housekeeping because obviously this is gonna be a contentious episode on a totally unrelated. No, I do wanna mention that our latest short film, the witching hour, which you can watch on our YouTube channel has actually gotten into a few film festivals. Juan was in Brooklyn last week, but later this summer it's going to be in, in the Midwest sci-fi short film festival sometime around mid to late August, which will have a virtual component. 00:06:04.060 --> 00:06:17.680 So you'll actually be able to stream the whole festival and see our film, but a ton of other films as well. So I'm gonna share details when that, when I get them, but we're really excited to be able to be part of that, you know, from afar and be able to participate in a festival. 00:06:17.980 --> 00:06:20.879 You know, I, I gotta say, uh, I love these little festivals. 00:06:21.278 --> 00:06:29.120 I think they're so fun. It's such a good, um, there's, there's like a really good community around these little festivals, especially when they're genre based. 00:06:29.490 --> 00:06:34.040 Absolutely. And I've found so much community in the horror. 00:06:34.300 --> 00:06:42.278 Sci-fi like even just regular short film festivals too, that have a horror component. It's been so fun to meet other filmmakers. 00:06:42.709 --> 00:06:50.600 It's like when we it's very similar to when we were at Perricone, just the community of people that are all about this sort of thing. 00:06:51.259 --> 00:06:55.800 Yes. It is a very, uh, uplifting community of artists. 00:06:56.100 --> 00:06:56.932 For sure. 00:06:57.060 --> 00:07:17.560 The other thing we wanted to announce is that we're coming out with a new YouTube series, which is going to be kind of a rendition of our campfire tales episodes on the podcast. But Allen, when he was bike packing this weekend, got some very stunning fire footage and we're excited to kind of bring that together visually. 00:07:18.199 --> 00:07:22.240 Oh, well let me, let me sure. If I may take the lead on this one. 00:07:23.060 --> 00:07:42.040 So this is something that we've been talking about doing for probably the better part of a decade ever since Netflix came out with its CRE creme of fireplace videos. We were thinking, wow, what a market that we would love to tap. We, we, we can join them among the greats of fireplace videos. 00:07:42.660 --> 00:07:46.920 So we packed up all the camera stuff. 00:07:42.660 --> 00:07:57.399 We went onto the woods, we set up camp, you know, we, we filmed our fire. It was wonderful. But the only thing is like, this was at a public campground. So, you know, there's lots of other people camping. 00:07:53.480 --> 00:07:57.399 So we couldn't do any sound recording. 00:07:58.220 --> 00:08:05.519 So we now have these long fireplace videos and, and that some, that range in quality I'll, I'll admit. 00:08:05.779 --> 00:08:07.920 But they're not fireplace they're camp fire. 00:08:08.509 --> 00:08:11.000 Sure. These are outdoor fireplace videos. 00:08:11.699 --> 00:08:21.439 So the original series fireplace for your home directed by the brilliant George Ford really set the bar for what a fireplace video could be. 00:08:21.990 --> 00:08:24.160 Sure. Very high. Huh? 00:08:24.470 --> 00:08:32.159 Very, very high <laugh>. And to our knowledge, this, you know, he, he, the he's lonely on top of the mountain. No one is. 00:08:32.159 --> 00:08:39.080 Well, there's that Darth Vader one, the Darth Vader, one on YouTube where he's like on the funeral PI for like eight hours. 00:08:39.620 --> 00:08:42.200 Oh, that one was kind of like a cult favorite for a while. 00:08:42.480 --> 00:08:43.480 I don't know if I've seen this one. 00:08:43.940 --> 00:08:45.519 Oh, do you want me to show you? 00:08:46.789 --> 00:08:49.519 Okay. So thank you for sharing that we just took. You're very welcome. 00:08:49.799 --> 00:09:07.039 Took a little peek. Uh, there's a lot of creative liberties taken in that <laugh> um, we're going for a much more purest approach. No, this is a no nonsense photo, accurate fireplace video. You know, the, we, we thing is we've been putting these on for years. 00:09:07.250 --> 00:09:13.440 Every time we play board games D and D whatever, it's just a beautiful ambiance in the background, but here's the thing we try. 00:09:13.600 --> 00:09:27.480 We wanted to record sound, get that, you know, that, that real pristine fire crackling, you know, you get, you, you search out the perfect wood. You make the, so it has like a little bit of moisture to it, but it still burns well, but you get all the crackles and pops from the moisture. You know. 00:09:27.590 --> 00:09:28.480 It's a delicate balance. 00:09:28.740 --> 00:09:29.120 It is. 00:09:29.120 --> 00:09:36.440 It is however where we were there were are there families and there was one that had children and other that was playing music. 00:09:36.700 --> 00:09:38.159 So we could not do sound recording. 00:09:38.779 --> 00:09:53.253 So we decided either we could sound design these fully and you know, re recreate the atmosphere, but it strips away a layer of authenticity from the truly discerning viewer. 00:09:53.740 --> 00:09:54.919 As our viewers are. 00:09:55.450 --> 00:09:57.759 Right. You know, they deserve the best. Absolutely. 00:09:57.960 --> 00:10:00.399 So we're we wouldn't hoodwink them like that. No. 00:10:00.740 --> 00:10:13.120 So what we've decided to do is take our, the few episodes that we shot, we call 'em episodes, cuz it's gonna be season one and we're going to, the sound component is gonna be our campfire tales. 00:10:13.120 --> 00:10:15.600 Episodes, campfire tales, season one. 00:10:15.740 --> 00:10:16.299 That's right. 00:10:16.299 --> 00:10:17.360 Season of the witch. 00:10:17.980 --> 00:10:20.919 That's right. Yeah. Yes. 00:10:17.980 --> 00:10:28.759 Uh, the thing is we, we've only done two campfire tales so far, so either we'll recut them to, you know, stretch 'em out or maybe we just make some extras. 00:10:29.070 --> 00:10:33.440 Yeah. So if you have a short story, we actually have a few submissions already ready to go. 00:10:33.460 --> 00:10:45.039 So if you have a short story that doesn't necessarily fit on a theme, but you've been sitting on this story waiting to be able to submit it, send it to us at films about lunatic, gmail.com. 00:10:45.100 --> 00:10:49.600 And we would love to feature it on our YouTube channel and then hopefully someday on the podcast as well. 00:10:49.649 --> 00:10:53.200 There you go. So there you go. Yeah. 00:10:49.649 --> 00:10:57.519 It's, it's an exciting time. Now this, this first season, you know, it's real rough around the edges. 00:10:57.899 --> 00:11:01.240 Season two is gonna be much more polished. 00:10:57.899 --> 00:11:01.240 Hopefully we'll have funding by then. 00:11:01.740 --> 00:11:03.000 You know, firewoods not cheap. 00:11:03.720 --> 00:11:08.678 I have two big foot related housekeeping items surround us out here. Mm. 00:11:09.299 --> 00:11:13.919 Big foot housekeeping item. Number one. Yes. We have new big foot March. 00:11:14.539 --> 00:11:18.000 Oh yeah. In our merch store. 00:11:14.539 --> 00:11:28.480 So if you head to lunatic, project.com and you click on merch and you scroll around all of our beautifully designed merch, you will come across our new Bigfoot collection of apparel. 00:11:28.659 --> 00:11:33.080 It was designed by our very talented and lovely friend, Olivia. 00:11:33.220 --> 00:11:38.080 So please follow her on Instagram at all of dot Inc. And yeah. Check it out. 00:11:38.081 --> 00:11:45.600 There's tote bags, which I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of this summer, but there's, t-shirt sweatshirts all kinds of Bigfoot designs up there for you. 00:11:45.600 --> 00:11:55.799 So take a look and it's a wonderful way to show some support, but also show everybody around you that you're into weird things like Bigfoot really set the scene before you meet strangers. You know. 00:11:56.379 --> 00:12:03.759 You know, I, I really feel like we're trailblazers here being the first people to make Bigfoot merch. 00:12:03.950 --> 00:12:04.783 Yeah. 00:12:05.058 --> 00:12:19.240 My brother-in-law wears a lot of brewery t-shirts and so many of just his brewery t-shirts have Bigfoot on them. I've noticed it's very, it's Bigfoot is an icon and we're gonna talk about why, but our merch is trail blazing, you know, it's. 00:12:19.909 --> 00:12:21.919 Have you ever referred to him as your brother-in-law? 00:12:22.100 --> 00:12:27.200 No, I actually didn't know that I could, until the other day I was describing who he was to me. Someone was like. 00:12:27.269 --> 00:12:28.279 It's not illegal to say. 00:12:28.279 --> 00:12:30.840 That brother-in-law <laugh>. I was like, my sister's husband. 00:12:30.990 --> 00:12:33.558 They were like your brother-in-law and. 00:12:33.639 --> 00:12:34.720 Then we just call him Steve. 00:12:34.928 --> 00:12:38.678 Steve. Yeah. He told me, actually, I just told him this a few days ago. 00:12:38.940 --> 00:12:41.879 And he said he was describing his relationship. 00:12:42.100 --> 00:12:42.820 To Bigfoot. 00:12:42.820 --> 00:12:45.399 To the, to the family. 00:12:42.820 --> 00:12:45.399 And they were like, right. 00:12:45.400 --> 00:12:48.639 You're the it's they're your in-laws. And he was like, oh right. 00:12:49.159 --> 00:13:00.639 So we both had the same. We both missed the same memo. But anyway, the final piece of Bigfoot related housekeeping that I have is just that we, I realized putting together this research that so much of it is really visual. 00:13:00.750 --> 00:13:06.960 That there's a lot of pictures and videos and prints all of these things that we're gonna dive into. 00:13:07.350 --> 00:13:08.480 Rock solid proof. 00:13:08.860 --> 00:13:18.799 So for Patreon, we're going to put together a mini documentary, just kind of encompassing a lot of this history, but also showing the visuals of what we're talking about. 00:13:18.980 --> 00:13:37.480 So head over to lunatic, project.com and click on Patreon to support us and to see that if you're interested. So I'm gonna warn you all. Now, there is a very long list of sources for today and similar to what we, I think we did in the mummy's episode, I'm going to just say them for this episode. 00:13:37.580 --> 00:13:40.240 I'm not going to recite them again every single time. 00:13:40.980 --> 00:13:43.678 And we will post them on lunatic project.com. 00:13:43.740 --> 00:13:51.720 So if anyone wants to really dive into some of these sources and watch the footage that we did or read some of the articles or books that we did, we'll make sure it's public for you there. 00:13:52.019 --> 00:13:55.600 But bear with me as I walk through our long list of sources right. 00:13:55.600 --> 00:14:05.039 Now, and as a reminder, everything has been fact checked by snoops. Uh, this, everything here you can is just as official. Um, as the Bible. 00:14:05.169 --> 00:14:33.399 There you go. So the it's the that's still fair game. Yes. 00:16:31.440 --> 00:16:32.070 Absolutely. 00:16:32.070 --> 00:16:34.200 Okay. I, I, that was my clarifying question. 00:16:34.289 --> 00:16:35.123 Great. 00:16:36.049 --> 00:16:43.679 Let's start off by defining exactly what Bigfoot Sasquatch is so that we can really picture it together. 00:16:44.149 --> 00:16:46.440 Also what's the difference between Bigfoot and Sasquatch. 00:16:46.700 --> 00:16:50.320 All things that you will find out as you listen to the remainder of the episode. 00:16:51.110 --> 00:16:54.120 Okay. Okay. Is that part at least gonna be in part one? 00:16:55.059 --> 00:16:56.639 Yes. If I can get through it. Yes. 00:16:56.940 --> 00:16:58.120 You're getting snippy. 00:16:58.580 --> 00:17:02.879 Big foot or Sasquatch is a creature from north American folklore. 00:17:03.629 --> 00:17:11.240 It's described physically as a large ape-like creature that walks on two legs and is covered in usually dark fur. 00:17:11.509 --> 00:17:19.880 Typically it's described as being between six and 15 feet tall, but most sightings come in around eight or nine feet. 00:17:20.779 --> 00:17:22.960 So humanoid, but much, much taller. 00:17:23.480 --> 00:17:26.358 Everyone usually also remarks on how wide the shoulders are. 00:17:26.819 --> 00:17:39.358 And so this of course explains the footprints, which would be much larger than a humans would be typically it's believed that big foot legs are shorter than an average man, but with longer arms like the proportions. 00:17:39.549 --> 00:17:40.383 Like an ape. 00:17:40.608 --> 00:17:49.680 Right? Yep, exactly. They're thought of to have human intelligence, but they're typically very non-violent towards people though. 00:17:49.910 --> 00:17:56.880 They have been known to throw rocks, uh, or like, um, to throw rocks at people or to hit trees to make sounds. 00:17:56.940 --> 00:18:01.680 And they admit this very primal, I guess, is the word for it. Screech or Howell. 00:18:02.680 --> 00:18:06.358 Uh, we saw this type of behavior in the movie. 00:18:07.720 --> 00:18:08.480 Primal rage. 00:18:08.480 --> 00:18:11.079 Primal rage, right? Yeah. Well, I'm sorry. I'm getting ahead to the. 00:18:11.460 --> 00:18:12.292 You're getting away. 00:18:12.759 --> 00:18:15.599 The pop culture. Yeah. They're pretty violent in that actually. 00:18:15.789 --> 00:18:21.240 Yeah. But in real life, they really avoid being seen or interacting with humans real. 00:18:21.240 --> 00:18:21.900 Life. Huh? 00:18:21.900 --> 00:18:24.559 Listen, you, you just wait Mister, you just wait. Okay. 00:18:25.700 --> 00:18:29.440 The main symptoms of a big foot siding include. 00:18:30.190 --> 00:18:31.022 Psychosis. 00:18:31.640 --> 00:18:52.640 <Laugh> so a lot of physical evidence that can be found like footprints, obviously fur that can't be attributed to other known species and sometimes like, uh, thin trees or saplings being bent over in a way that couldn't be explained by other trees falling over or, or by known animal behavior of those regions encounters. 00:18:52.641 --> 00:19:00.920 Usually with large mammals standing upright most seem to show Bigfoot standing at or behind a treeline watching humans. Right? 00:19:01.019 --> 00:19:09.759 So whenever you see Bigfoot footage or photos, typically they're kind of blended into a tree, observing people. 00:19:11.019 --> 00:19:21.480 The complexity of Bigfoot is that there are many known hoaxes, but there are some sightings, very famous ones that still remain unsolved. 00:19:22.299 --> 00:19:23.133 Oh. 00:19:23.309 --> 00:20:14.200 Quoting from Robert Walls, quote, a few physical anthropologists such as Jeff Meldrum at Idaho state university in Grover Krantz at Washington state university have ESPED the biological reality of Bigfoot based on their examination of the 1967 film footage of a purported Bigfoot taken in Northern California's Klamath mountains or on their morphological analysis of footprints. Some of which exhibit dermal ridges, as those found in the 1980s by a us forest service employee in the blue mountains of Northeastern Oregon, most scientists, however, remain skeptics and dismiss the phenomenon as the product of mistaken identification of known animals or elaborate hoaxes with prints cleverly planted to deceive. 00:20:14.960 --> 00:20:16.160 Oh yeah. I'd say that's true. 00:20:16.420 --> 00:20:29.880 So we're just setting the stage right. There are so very intelligent, very respected scientists and anthropologists out there that believe in the validity of the evidence that we're gonna talk about today. 00:20:29.881 --> 00:20:31.118 And there's others that don't. 00:20:31.509 --> 00:20:35.118 There's a lot of very respected people that believe in some bad at crazy things. 00:20:36.549 --> 00:20:37.383 Yeah. 00:20:37.799 --> 00:20:38.633 But maybe. 00:20:38.940 --> 00:20:42.519 You think they're bad. Shit crazy because you are close minded. 00:20:43.240 --> 00:20:45.200 Uh, no, I told you I'm open minded. Doesn't. 00:20:45.200 --> 00:20:45.910 Sound like it. 00:20:45.910 --> 00:20:52.240 Well, Touche. Um, by the way, so the, the footage that you just. 00:20:53.599 --> 00:20:54.680 Say, we're gonna spend lots. 00:20:54.680 --> 00:20:57.759 Of time. That's like the big foot footage that everyone's seen, right? Yeah. 00:20:57.760 --> 00:20:59.079 The one that the black and white. 00:20:59.670 --> 00:21:00.640 It's not black and white, but. 00:21:00.759 --> 00:21:04.039 Yeah. It's not black and white it's color. I've seen it in black and white. 00:21:04.349 --> 00:21:07.440 Okay. I think they might have altered it slightly. Yeah. 00:21:07.441 --> 00:21:08.720 Sounds through desaturation. 00:21:09.000 --> 00:21:09.833 Saw the remix. 00:21:10.240 --> 00:21:13.240 Actually. Yeah. Now that I'm thinking about it, it was like video art. Okay. 00:21:13.420 --> 00:21:15.839 But no. Okay. I it's color really? Yeah. 00:21:15.940 --> 00:21:19.519 Is there no black and white footage of Bigfoot? What am I thinking of? 00:21:20.480 --> 00:21:21.140 Lockness monster. 00:21:21.140 --> 00:21:24.240 The Lockness monster. 00:21:21.140 --> 00:21:24.240 Do they know each other? 00:21:24.670 --> 00:21:32.358 Okay. Before we get into the history, let's define the space we're playing in today. Quoting from Wikipedia. 00:21:32.750 --> 00:21:34.559 It's a 13 by 13 cube. 00:21:35.599 --> 00:21:36.432 Christ. 00:21:36.710 --> 00:21:56.960 Cryptozoology is a pseudoscience and subculture that searches for in studies, unknown, legendary or extinct animals whose present existence is disputed or unsubstantiated, particularly those popular in folklore, such as Bigfoot, the Lochness monster, Yeti, the Jupe Cobra, or the Jersey devil. 00:21:57.460 --> 00:22:05.160 Cryptozoologist referred to these entities as cryptos a term coined by the subculture because it does not follow the scientific method. 00:22:05.868 --> 00:22:09.200 Cryptozoology is considered a pseudoscience by mainstream science. 00:22:09.858 --> 00:22:13.319 It is neither a branch of zoology nor of folklore studies. 00:22:14.099 --> 00:22:23.720 It was originally founded in the 1950s by zoologists Bernard Belmans and Ivan T Sanderson. Okay. 00:22:19.358 --> 00:22:23.720 Um, we're being very holistic here. 00:22:23.849 --> 00:22:25.358 She's reaching across the aisle. 00:22:26.089 --> 00:22:27.920 Tales of big foot type creatures. 00:22:28.130 --> 00:22:34.240 Don't only span north America's indigenous people, but similar tales exist globally. 00:22:34.539 --> 00:22:49.118 So this is one thing I'm just gonna pause on here because this happens all the time with folklore, but isn't it so fascinating that we're talking about thousands of years ago, we'll get into the, again, the evidence of it, but there is evidence with that. 00:22:49.119 --> 00:23:08.960 We will talk about that up to 2000 years ago in north America, the indigenous people who lived here believed in Bigfoot and there's evidence like that globally about the Yeti, about all kinds of different global versions of this Bob petal apelike creature. So I just think it's, let's just throw that out into the room. 00:23:09.410 --> 00:23:14.039 Let's just let that be something that sets the tone for this. 00:23:14.230 --> 00:23:16.039 It's out there. Okay. It's in the room. 00:23:16.430 --> 00:23:28.640 It's very closed minded for us to think that just because we, you know, don't have an overwhelming amount of evidence that this can't ever have existed or that it doesn't exist in some small capacity. 00:23:28.849 --> 00:23:33.319 Today. I mean, I've traveled quite a bit. 00:23:34.349 --> 00:23:37.759 I've been to all five boroughs of New York. Oh boy. 00:23:37.980 --> 00:23:42.319 And I have not once seen evidence of a large byed leap. 00:23:42.539 --> 00:23:43.289 In the us. 00:23:43.289 --> 00:23:55.000 There have been Bigfoot sidings reported in every single state with the exception of Hawaii and globally. There are similar legends about creatures, similar to Bigfoot in every continent, except for Antarctica. 00:23:55.150 --> 00:23:57.440 What the hell is Bigfoot doing in Nebraska? 00:23:58.269 --> 00:24:01.079 What do you mean? That's an ideal location for Bigfoot. 00:24:01.630 --> 00:24:04.559 It's just a big plane. Isn't it? 00:24:01.630 --> 00:24:04.559 There's not a lot of trees are there. 00:24:05.319 --> 00:24:06.319 I mean, there's big foot. 00:24:07.069 --> 00:24:09.400 Iowa. Where what's he doing in Iowa? 00:24:10.170 --> 00:24:11.319 Maybe he's passing through. 00:24:12.118 --> 00:24:13.240 <Laugh> as we do with Iowa. 00:24:13.700 --> 00:24:16.680 No, uh, disrespect. Any of our Iowa listeners out there. 00:24:17.750 --> 00:24:23.640 Just imagine being that big in Harry and being in a swamp in Florida, that sounds awful. 00:24:23.640 --> 00:24:26.480 That's the skunky. There's a whole other like subculture. 00:24:26.559 --> 00:24:27.599 What the is the skunky. 00:24:27.608 --> 00:24:29.480 We're gonna get to it. 00:24:27.608 --> 00:24:29.480 This is what I'm saying. 00:24:29.660 --> 00:24:35.480 You are at the tip of the iceberg right now. Everything, all of this realization is gonna explode into existence around you. 00:24:35.710 --> 00:24:36.720 Your world will be. 00:24:36.789 --> 00:24:39.559 Rock. Can we pivot to the skunk gate for a second? Is. 00:24:39.799 --> 00:24:40.230 It no. 00:24:40.230 --> 00:24:41.063 Okay. 00:24:41.118 --> 00:24:42.200 What do you wanna know about the skunky? 00:24:42.410 --> 00:24:43.242 Everything. 00:24:43.539 --> 00:24:53.200 The thing that I will say about this SCN Cape, just to wet your whistle is that in the video footage that I have obtained, he walks around carrying snakes. 00:24:54.180 --> 00:24:55.079 That's pretty cool. 00:24:55.108 --> 00:24:57.160 Like water moccasins that he looks like he's. 00:24:57.160 --> 00:24:58.240 What's a water moccasin. 00:24:58.440 --> 00:24:59.680 A water snake. Oh. 00:24:59.789 --> 00:25:01.759 Yeah. He hunts. So he hunts them and he carries them. 00:25:02.190 --> 00:25:06.559 Yeah. Or in this, in this very short clip, you can see that he's carrying like a snake. 00:25:06.630 --> 00:25:08.200 Like a catch and release or he. 00:25:08.480 --> 00:25:08.759 Eats no, a. 00:25:08.759 --> 00:25:10.279 Dead snake. I think a dead snake. Yeah. 00:25:12.349 --> 00:25:14.039 It's pretty. Limply laying there. 00:25:14.990 --> 00:25:17.358 It's pretty cool. Yeah. 00:25:14.990 --> 00:25:17.358 So you've seen this. 00:25:18.079 --> 00:25:19.680 And you will too. Okay. 00:25:20.259 --> 00:25:26.400 I'm gonna pivot away from skunk Gateses for now because we're gonna kind of work through this history chronologically. 00:25:26.618 --> 00:25:28.759 We can table it, but we'll have to circle back. 00:25:29.079 --> 00:25:31.799 We, we will absolutely circle back. All right. 00:25:31.800 --> 00:25:46.599 So we're going to immediately perhaps jump the shark here and great. Because it's chronologically the first thing to talk about. Oh, but it is kind of like the 4 0 1 class, like this is the advanced class. 00:25:46.980 --> 00:25:47.813 The 4 0 1. 00:25:48.059 --> 00:25:51.160 You know, like 1 0 1 is like basic 4 0 1 is like. 00:25:51.279 --> 00:25:53.920 Advanced. Oh, why you're talking about the, the highway. Oh. 00:25:53.940 --> 00:25:58.079 No. Okay. So here we go. So bear with me, everybody take a deep breath. 00:25:59.390 --> 00:26:05.440 It's kind of more about a spiritual side of the story and it's history that's often missed. 00:26:05.900 --> 00:26:18.160 And I came to find out about this from a suggestion by our friend Jameson rein hour. Who's actually been featured on the podcast before, but on Twitter, he responded to my call for some big foot sources. 00:26:18.819 --> 00:26:26.160 And he pointed me in the direction of a blog called and kiddo and an online article from the citizen times. 00:26:27.009 --> 00:26:44.279 Let's start with the citizen times article, which tells the story of how a man named Gowan McGregor was visiting Minnesota and was mistaken for a Sasquatch while wearing a suit of animal skins in the woods, in the winter. We all, we're all, all visualizing this, right? 00:26:45.420 --> 00:26:47.160 So is a big guy. 00:26:48.069 --> 00:26:55.319 Well, I don't know how big he is, but he's wearing a suit. He's sew together, dark animal PTs, and completely covered his body. 00:26:55.339 --> 00:26:56.358 And he's walking around the woods. 00:26:56.430 --> 00:27:03.000 Like a barbarian. Sure. Like a, like a very cliche barbarian. Right? 00:27:04.059 --> 00:27:12.160 So now you might be wondering why McGregor was walking around in literally a full body suit of animal skins, which is a very normal thing to wonder. 00:27:12.779 --> 00:27:21.480 And the reason is that he is practicing a ritual outlined in the earliest recorded story in human history, the epic of Gil mesh. 00:27:21.819 --> 00:27:23.559 That's the earliest recorded story. 00:27:24.130 --> 00:27:28.960 Right? So not the earliest writings, but the earliest recorded fiction story. 00:27:29.660 --> 00:27:30.519 That's pretty cool. 00:27:30.910 --> 00:27:37.720 Very cool. And in the earliest recorded story of human history, we have big foot ties. 00:27:38.380 --> 00:27:38.900 Wow. 00:27:38.900 --> 00:27:43.039 I'm just, again, slowly opening up the scope of this for you. 00:27:43.858 --> 00:27:48.000 So not only is the epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest fiction story. 00:27:48.220 --> 00:27:52.319 Mm-hmm <affirmative> in addition to that, it's the second oldest religious text. 00:27:52.858 --> 00:27:55.118 Second, only to the pyramid texts. 00:27:55.940 --> 00:27:59.680 As in just any text that was found in the pyramids or is there a fiction? 00:27:59.740 --> 00:28:02.039 No, the pyramid text are like capital P capital T. 00:28:02.040 --> 00:28:04.519 It's like a specific set of findings. Yeah. 00:28:04.750 --> 00:28:06.000 Like the dead sea scrolls. 00:28:06.069 --> 00:28:06.903 Exactly. 00:28:07.029 --> 00:28:10.599 Wait are okay. So are the dead sea scrolls pyramid texts? 00:28:10.880 --> 00:28:14.680 I don't know. We could look into that. We could circle back to that. 00:28:15.480 --> 00:28:25.279 So needless to say, it's a very important work to understand ancient humanity, and I'm not gonna go too deeply into the epic of Gil mesh itself, cuz it would be a whole thing. 00:28:25.509 --> 00:28:36.074 There's tons of politics and complexities to early life and Mesopotamia, but it dates back to about 2100 BCE and tells the story of Gilgamesh. 00:28:36.519 --> 00:28:42.712 The king of one of the major characters in this epic poem is an Kadu a wild man. 00:28:43.960 --> 00:28:53.319 And Kadu is not only one of the oldest literary or mythological characters in general, but he is also the oldest depiction of a wild man. 00:28:53.819 --> 00:28:58.440 The mythology goes that he was created in response to the prayers, to the people of Uru. 00:28:58.740 --> 00:29:42.119 And he was meant to balance out Gilga me who had strayed from the natural world. Here's a quote from Wikipedia quote, the tales of an Kadu servitude are narrated in five surviving Sumerian poems, developing from a slave of Gilgo mesh into a close comrade by the last poem, which describes enou as Gilgo me's friend in the epic enou is created as R to king Gilgamesh who terrorizes his people, but they become friends and together slay the monster whom Baba in the bull of heaven because of this, an Kadu is punished and dies representing the mighty hero who dies early. 00:29:42.700 --> 00:29:58.960 The deep tragic loss of ENCA do profoundly inspires in Gil me quest to escape death by obtaining godly immortality enou has virtually no existence outside the stories relating to Gil me to the extent of current knowledge. 00:29:59.380 --> 00:30:08.640 He was never a God to be worshiped and is absent from the list of Dees in ancient Mesopotamia and quote. 00:30:04.361 --> 00:30:15.079 Okay. So that's just the history, but now we're gonna go back to go and McGregor the man wandering around Minnesota in a suit made of animal pelts. 00:30:15.190 --> 00:30:15.940 Okay. 00:30:15.940 --> 00:30:24.640 So McGregor seems to somewhat disagree with the sentiment that N do isn't meant to be worshiped because he does indeed honor him in rituals. 00:30:25.140 --> 00:30:29.680 One of which is walking around the woods in animal skins, doing this. 00:30:29.779 --> 00:30:40.880 He has claimed not only scare other hikers, but that he's had visions of long forgotten gods and has had several Sasquatch present themselves to him. That's. 00:30:40.880 --> 00:30:41.619 Pretty cool. 00:30:41.619 --> 00:31:00.319 Yes. So you can visit Blogspot dot ANCA, doism.com for more ways to worship ENCA do and learn more about McGregor's way of thinking about this. But again, I thought it was really unique and fascinating, like as a take, not only on SAS watch, but also mythology in general. 00:31:00.779 --> 00:31:07.680 And I thought the origins of this wild man mythology is important, cuz it's gonna come back when we get to other cultures as well. 00:31:08.269 --> 00:31:10.240 What, uh, year was this guy? 00:31:10.470 --> 00:31:12.680 Current current, his blog is current. 00:31:13.259 --> 00:31:14.093 He has a blog. 00:31:14.309 --> 00:31:47.119 Yeah. So ANCA, doism, blogspot.com or Blogspot dot and doism.com is a current blog. He again, really believes that by honoring and Kadu in these ways he's had, he's opened self up to visions of Sasquatch, which is again, this sort of thing that is coming up more recently with certain paranormal investigators and people who study this sort of thing that there isn't just crypto zoologists or ghost hunters that all of the stuff is really connected. 00:31:48.099 --> 00:31:52.759 And that Bigfoot doesn't necessarily need to be a physical Bigfoot presence. 00:31:52.760 --> 00:32:03.240 Like what if Bigfoot is some sort of vision or sighting that you see in the woods versus like a physical creature? You know, there's all kinds of ways to, to think about this. 00:32:04.079 --> 00:32:09.359 Okay. You, you got me there. Yeah. That, uh, that seems a bit more plausible. 00:32:09.720 --> 00:32:13.279 I want you to think about this the way we are thinking about Mo man, right? 00:32:13.470 --> 00:32:18.559 Yeah. That it's bigger in scope than we, it's not this thing that fits in a box. 00:32:18.650 --> 00:32:24.359 Right. It's not a big, hairy creature literally hiding in the woods. Right. 00:32:24.940 --> 00:32:35.720 It is possibly a manifestation of some form that appears to people under certain circumstances. It could be. 00:32:35.859 --> 00:32:39.480 But outside of those circumstances, it does not have a Capor presence. 00:32:39.849 --> 00:32:40.682 Could be right. 00:32:41.309 --> 00:32:44.200 That I, I you've. That seems more plausible. 00:32:44.250 --> 00:32:47.519 Great. I've already got 'em hooked. 00:32:44.250 --> 00:32:47.519 I mean, listen, this is, I, I will. 00:32:47.670 --> 00:32:49.759 Give credit credit credit. Hang on. 00:32:47.670 --> 00:32:49.759 We're still talking about Bigfoot. 00:32:49.819 --> 00:32:50.759 I'm not saying I'm hooked. 00:32:50.990 --> 00:32:53.680 Okay. But I, I will give credit where credit is due. 00:32:54.180 --> 00:33:19.160 And I just wanna say that the new Kirks and you probably have heard me talk about their, their series. Hellier, they're the ones who have really started this way of thinking or in me anyway, to say that all of these things can be kind of the same thing or have, you know, we think of them as very separate things, these, you know, exfil type topics, but they really could be different than we think. 00:33:19.279 --> 00:33:27.000 And if we start kind of having big foot hunters and ghost hunters, talk to each other, like what? And like mythologist and folklores, like what could we really find out? 00:33:27.420 --> 00:33:38.472 So if we just reallocated, I don't know, maybe 30, 40% of our defense budget to cryptozoology probably get some results. 00:33:39.269 --> 00:33:45.359 Well, unless the government is involved in covering it up and we're gonna get into that later. I don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorist. 00:33:45.460 --> 00:33:46.119 But you. 00:33:46.119 --> 00:33:48.480 Do. There's some interesting things to think about. Okay. 00:33:49.240 --> 00:33:52.319 The, the government is covering up Bigfoot. That's what you just said. 00:33:52.920 --> 00:33:56.359 I think it's something we could start thinking about. Okay. Okay. 00:33:57.019 --> 00:34:00.240 I'm gonna jump ahead from the earliest. 00:34:00.549 --> 00:34:01.383 Gilgamesh. 00:34:01.559 --> 00:34:04.599 Palm. Yes. The earliest story ever to 1904. 00:34:05.539 --> 00:34:10.679 But we're still pre-social media now because we're not with a, a guy in the woods with a Tumblr. 00:34:11.210 --> 00:34:11.880 Right. 00:34:11.880 --> 00:34:24.360 <laugh> in 1904 settlers in the sixties river area reported wild men living in the area among them, which has been corroborated by minors from that region for decades since. 00:34:24.909 --> 00:34:29.840 Wait, hang on. So you're just saying that like there was a citing in 1906. 00:34:30.219 --> 00:34:31.280 No, in 1904. 00:34:31.539 --> 00:34:34.440 In 1904, there was a citing that's famous. 00:34:35.420 --> 00:34:39.159 And since then it has been corroborated multiple times. 00:34:40.659 --> 00:34:44.960 In 1904 minors of this specific area claimed. 00:34:45.760 --> 00:34:48.760 Minors as in like whack whack, whack minors or child mins. 00:34:49.460 --> 00:34:49.780 No. 00:34:49.780 --> 00:35:01.039 As in adult mins who are mining for coal have had reported that there was something like that, living in the woods around them, that they had all of these run-ins right. Mm. 00:35:01.219 --> 00:35:09.920 And for decades since minors and people who lived in that area at this time have all like supported those claims. 00:35:10.380 --> 00:35:19.440 But in 19 24, 1 of the most iconic and historic big foot sightings in north America happened. 00:35:20.739 --> 00:35:21.199 In what. 00:35:21.199 --> 00:35:22.400 Year? 1924. 00:35:22.789 --> 00:35:25.559 This is the black and white one. No, this is color. 00:35:26.340 --> 00:35:28.840 No, this is there's no evidence here. These are sightings. 00:35:28.840 --> 00:35:29.719 There's no evidence. 00:35:30.500 --> 00:35:31.333 Yes. 00:35:31.920 --> 00:35:37.119 1924 minors who are working in the Mount St Helen's area, which is in Washington state. 00:35:37.469 --> 00:35:38.960 Back when child labor was allowed. 00:35:39.400 --> 00:35:51.679 Reported being attacked by quote unquote apes, the headline read fight with big apes reported by miners and below that fable beasts are said to have bombarded cabin. 00:35:52.219 --> 00:35:56.320 One of animals said to appear like huge gorilla is killed by party. 00:35:57.269 --> 00:36:21.639 Also in 1924, a logger named Al Osman claimed to have been kidnapped and held by a group of Sasquatch while logging in British Columbia, quoting from an article by James B Shoeman from the Los Angeles times in 1968. So this article came out after the fact, it was the middle of the night and I was groggy with sleep. 00:36:21.750 --> 00:36:33.360 75 year old Al Osman recalls something big and powerful grabbed my sleeping bag and me inside of it, the beast or whatever it was, threw me over his shoulder, like a sack of flour. 00:36:34.159 --> 00:36:49.114 I could feel it striding on two legs, like a giant gorilla Osman, a Husky lagger, looking for gold in British Columbia in 1924, estimates that he was carried bodily across wild and rugged terrain for three hours. 00:36:49.659 --> 00:36:58.920 The article goes on to say that he was only able to escape after being held in this like bowl shaped basin area for six days. 00:37:00.059 --> 00:37:07.800 And after one of the Sasquatch, like there was this whole debacle because one of the Sasquatch started eating his chewing tobacco and got really sick. 00:37:07.980 --> 00:37:11.719 And so from the chaos that sort of came out of that, he was able to escape. 00:37:13.199 --> 00:37:13.769 Hmm. 00:37:13.769 --> 00:38:01.599 Indigenous people from this area have reported similar creatures who would skirt around near their tribes for years and years. Quoting again from Robert Walls, quote, native Americans in Oregon have increasingly situated belief systems as being with deeply rooted cultural significance tribes in coastal, Oregon related Bigfoot to ancient tales of quote unquote wild men who lurked near villages and left immense tracks members of plateaued tribes, such as those at the warm Springs reservation, identify Bigfoot as a quote, stick Indian, a diverse category of, of potentially hostile beings who stole salmon or confused people by whistling causing them to become lost sightings and stories. 00:38:02.000 --> 00:38:11.280 Continue on reservations today, representing a spiritual connection to the pre-contact past and the resilience of indigenous cultural heritage and quote. 00:38:11.539 --> 00:38:12.373 That's pretty cool. 00:38:12.780 --> 00:38:13.559 Yes. 00:38:13.559 --> 00:38:14.920 I like the stealing salmon part. 00:38:15.519 --> 00:38:19.559 Yeah. Yeah. Well trick star energy, Betty Little's history.com. 00:38:19.590 --> 00:38:22.880 Article points out something really fascinating. 00:38:23.570 --> 00:38:32.880 There is a distinct difference between the history of Bigfoot and the history of Sasquatch though. I think many people use those terms today. Interchangeably. 00:38:33.340 --> 00:38:40.030 At least the average Joe does, which I say that I am mm-hmm <affirmative> so this is the answer to your big question. 00:38:40.030 --> 00:38:40.699 Okay. 00:38:40.699 --> 00:38:49.840 The definitive coining of the term Bigfoot came in 1958, which we'll talk about soon. However, Sasquatch can be traced back much farther. 00:38:50.829 --> 00:39:03.760 Sasquatch is connected to the wild band mythology. Again, that keeps coming up, right, right. From en CDU to indigenous cultures. The world, the word itself comes from Southwestern, British Columbia and Canada. 00:39:04.590 --> 00:39:06.639 Sasquatch or Sasquatch. Yeah. Okay. 00:39:07.070 --> 00:39:09.079 Forgive my pronunciation here on this one. 00:39:09.179 --> 00:39:10.012 You are forgiven. 00:39:11.099 --> 00:39:13.360 I'm not asking you for forgiveness for the record, but thank you. 00:39:13.460 --> 00:39:14.400 You just asked me. 00:39:14.619 --> 00:39:15.599 I'm asking the listeners. 00:39:15.880 --> 00:39:16.713 Oh, screw you. 00:39:16.940 --> 00:39:21.119 The ALS first nation people use the word. SAS cuts. 00:39:21.820 --> 00:39:22.652 SAS gates. 00:39:23.030 --> 00:39:39.679 Wild man mythology dates back much farther than our 1958 use of the word Bigfoot. And again, just to call it back to what, how we started the episode, the earliest recorded wild man is from the epic of Gilgamesh, which is, you know, the oldest fiction story we have. 00:39:40.349 --> 00:39:44.920 Does Anka do look is, is he depicted to yeah, look like Bigfoot. 00:39:45.309 --> 00:39:49.559 He's depicted to look like a wild, like a wild human wild man. 00:39:50.000 --> 00:40:09.519 Mythology is usually like a single human who kind of does not conform with society and lives in nature, but isn't in a pack of people or a tribe is just kind of a single person. There are numerous examples from medieval Europe. In fact, that is where the wild man myth really takes shape a simple explanation. 00:40:10.190 --> 00:40:15.594 It's a man or a figure that lives in the woods alone often called man of the woods as well. 00:40:16.179 --> 00:40:26.679 And as often compared to the Seder of classical mythology or the Sivan of Roman mythology, wild men are often shown in paintings as being covered in hair. 00:40:27.219 --> 00:41:04.559 And we're often used in art of this era in a similar way to the green man, if you've seen Heller, you know, so quoting from Wikipedia quote, the medieval wild man concept also drew on lore about similar beings from the classical world, such as the Roman F and Silvans, and perhaps even her Clease, several folk traditions about the wild man correspond with ancient practices and beliefs, notably peasants in the grease songs, tried to capture the wild man by getting him drunk and tying him up in hopes that he would give them his wisdom in exchange for freedom and quote. 00:41:04.860 --> 00:41:11.639 So I just Googled Silvans just to see what it is. Cause I, I know the name because it's come up in D and D. Oh yeah. 00:41:11.780 --> 00:41:22.840 And there's actually a whole entry for fifth edition Silvans oh, uh, and it's basically the green man. Apparently they have They have the old father and the young Strider. 00:41:23.699 --> 00:41:36.320 So depending on how they wanna appear, but they'll like always be, you know, with a tree helping, like they'll like, they'll be with, with the tree, the tree will grow, you know, always around nature. Like. 00:41:36.420 --> 00:41:38.079 If they just touch the tree, the tree. 00:41:38.510 --> 00:41:41.119 Yeah. Like poison Ivy powers. Cool know. Yeah. 00:41:41.219 --> 00:41:45.760 But also they're flash confused with wood. Like they can become the tree. 00:41:46.840 --> 00:41:50.880 Just like the, like the plot of the X vows episode that we watch for this. 00:41:51.760 --> 00:41:52.429 Disagree with that. 00:41:52.429 --> 00:41:53.639 Okay. Well we can come back to that. 00:41:53.760 --> 00:41:57.679 I think they had camouflage very good camouflage. 00:41:57.681 --> 00:42:00.519 They had bark like appearances, but they were not made of that. 00:42:00.909 --> 00:42:18.880 It's also kind of similar to obviously the theme of the second season of Heller, but also if anyone has seen men, the Alex Garland film from this year that I have a lot of opinions about, but that really sounds like the kind of the, the green man trope. 00:42:19.349 --> 00:42:22.000 Yeah. This is, this is pretty cool. 00:42:19.349 --> 00:42:28.280 All these, like, I don't know, they sound like pretty like op DRS. You know, they just have the powers of nature. Right. 00:42:28.860 --> 00:42:37.039 And can either commune with animals or make animals really big or, you know, summon hoards of little squirrels or something, you know, just. 00:42:37.190 --> 00:42:40.480 It's like how I can turn into a bear in D and D because I'm playing a Dred. 00:42:40.480 --> 00:42:41.313 That's right. 00:42:41.710 --> 00:42:42.679 It's pretty rock and roll. 00:42:43.300 --> 00:43:00.159 And of course there are tons of examples of quote unquote wild men who are not part of a medieval art tradition, meaning people who did live in nature or were othered from society by some other reason, you know? 00:42:56.380 --> 00:43:02.599 So it was just important to say, it's not all like mythology rock and roll. 00:43:02.601 --> 00:43:07.072 Sometimes the wild men people are talking about is because of prejudice and discrimination. 00:43:07.150 --> 00:43:07.983 Sure. 00:43:08.110 --> 00:43:11.679 What I think is perhaps my favorite piece of evidence. 00:43:12.619 --> 00:43:15.519 For, for what the existence of Bigfoot, correct. 00:43:15.829 --> 00:43:19.639 Okay. Is what's called the Harry man. Pictographs. 00:43:20.219 --> 00:43:21.719 Is this from Harry and the Henderson's. 00:43:21.980 --> 00:43:23.880 No east of Porterville. 00:43:23.880 --> 00:43:38.239 California is the tool river Indian reservation on this land is a rock painting, which has been dated by archeologist as somewhere between 702,000 years old. You with me Allen. 00:43:38.940 --> 00:43:40.440 So slightly younger than Jesus. 00:43:40.909 --> 00:43:47.320 Correct. It's widely known as the hairy man pictograph, which is on what is called painted rock. 00:43:47.449 --> 00:43:48.559 Which is a painted rock. 00:43:48.989 --> 00:43:50.039 Correct. Okay. 00:43:50.420 --> 00:43:59.440 The paintings are inside a rock shelter and in color they use red, white, black, and yellow. The, so these paintings depict many animals. 00:43:59.860 --> 00:44:06.920 And what appears to be a mother, father, and child Sasquatch among again, many other families of animals. 00:44:07.780 --> 00:44:11.639 The hair man painting is also the largest of all the images. 00:44:12.500 --> 00:44:16.920 The Harry man has an important role in the creation story of this tribe. 00:44:16.920 --> 00:44:21.639 Like the CRE their, their story about the creation of humanity. Mm. 00:44:23.219 --> 00:44:28.280 And in these images, he is depicted as crying, which is in line with their mythology. 00:44:28.519 --> 00:44:29.480 Gorillas. Can't cry. 00:44:30.070 --> 00:44:35.360 They're not gorillas, they're Sasquatch. And I, I do you, do you know that gorillas can't cry. 00:44:35.519 --> 00:44:36.519 Definitively? Yes. 00:44:37.219 --> 00:44:42.199 The creation story involves each animal saying what aspects people should have. 00:44:42.201 --> 00:44:44.840 Like all of these animals are coming together to create a new species. 00:44:45.420 --> 00:44:51.760 And they're all saying, like, for example, fish would say, I want people to be able to swim like me. Right. 00:44:52.099 --> 00:44:52.932 Why? 00:44:52.949 --> 00:44:55.599 Because they're generous and kind. 00:44:55.739 --> 00:44:58.079 That's so unhuman of them. Yeah. 00:44:58.510 --> 00:45:09.199 However, when it was Harry man's turn, he said he didn't want people to walk on two legs like he did, but coyote didn't agree with this and challenged Harry man to erase. 00:45:09.300 --> 00:45:11.679 And so the winner would decide how people. 00:45:11.679 --> 00:45:13.400 Would walk. Oh, I see where this is going. 00:45:14.079 --> 00:45:18.199 Harry man thought that coyote would cheat, which he was known to do. Of course. 00:45:18.579 --> 00:45:26.400 So instead of racing, he decided to kind of like hop out of the race and help the other animals to create humans instead. 00:45:26.820 --> 00:45:34.159 And they did this by drawing the shape of humans in the earth and then breathing life into them. 00:45:31.760 --> 00:45:37.199 Like all these animals, breathing life into them and creating humans, typical. 00:45:38.000 --> 00:45:40.000 Creation story, shaping outta clay. 00:45:40.269 --> 00:45:57.599 Exactly. Like Goms. However, the people, when they were created actually ended up being afraid of Harry man and they ran away. And that's why he's sad and crying in the drawing. But Alan, before you comment, I want you to write now Google Harry man, pick a graph and look at it from 2000 years ago. 00:45:58.269 --> 00:45:59.103 It's kind of bad. 00:45:59.860 --> 00:46:00.920 You mean it's a bad drawing. 00:46:00.949 --> 00:46:01.782 It's a bad drawing. 00:46:01.829 --> 00:46:04.880 Okay. That's your personal opinion. You, you. 00:46:05.280 --> 00:46:07.199 Why am I looking at this? 00:46:05.280 --> 00:46:07.199 You want an evaluation? 00:46:08.239 --> 00:46:08.679 I don't. 00:46:08.679 --> 00:46:13.559 I want you to see so that your brain can take in the evidence. 00:46:14.460 --> 00:46:15.880 Why don't you describe it for people? 00:46:16.670 --> 00:46:23.920 Okay. So it looks like there's three, three things. They look like, uh. 00:46:24.670 --> 00:46:25.503 Cave drawings. 00:46:25.789 --> 00:46:32.760 Yeah. They look like cave drawings. They look like, um, okay. They look like, uh, the big Muppet, um, speeds. Sweets. Yes. 00:46:32.829 --> 00:46:33.840 From the frog prints. 00:46:34.030 --> 00:46:36.800 Yeah. But he'd no horns. Very smooth head. 00:46:37.460 --> 00:46:38.719 Sweets doesn't have horns. 00:46:38.739 --> 00:46:41.800 He doesn't have horns. No like little horns. No. Okay. 00:46:41.800 --> 00:46:44.760 Well he looks like sweets. 00:46:41.800 --> 00:46:48.920 That's the big one. The, the medium size one looks like the same thing, but wearing a Crusader helmet. 00:46:49.920 --> 00:46:52.559 <laugh> and then the little one looks like a penguin. 00:46:53.079 --> 00:46:55.199 A penguin. Okay. Well it's a. 00:46:55.829 --> 00:46:56.920 Penguin with an Afro. 00:46:57.340 --> 00:47:01.360 So listen, make of it, which you will, but it's clearly not a human, right. 00:47:02.159 --> 00:47:02.980 Uh, it does not. 00:47:02.980 --> 00:47:07.559 It appears humanoid while there's some very distinct differences. 00:47:08.739 --> 00:47:09.800 The legs are much shorter. 00:47:10.440 --> 00:47:11.269 The sure. 00:47:11.269 --> 00:47:15.920 It's mostly just like the stance of the big one. 00:47:16.269 --> 00:47:22.320 Like the, the, the mama and the, I mean, we're also arbitrarily gendering these. Yeah. 00:47:22.809 --> 00:47:37.880 Which now that I think about it could be completely incorrect, but regardless, if not, for the weird arm positions, not weird arm positions actually pretty accurate arm positions of like, it's like the, the thing popping outta the woods, holding up his arms, right. 00:47:37.880 --> 00:47:38.713 To scare you. 00:47:38.750 --> 00:47:39.583 Yeah. 00:47:40.199 --> 00:47:50.679 It, because like you look over at like the, the, the other two that those appear to be almost like bad kid drawings, proportions are completely weird or just, yeah. 00:47:50.681 --> 00:48:07.679 That's just how unskilled artists, if you will draw things. Sure. But the, one of the large creature humanoid thing doesn't appear that there's a lot of little details put in that appear that they were like deliberate choices that give perspective. 00:48:08.309 --> 00:48:11.440 Yeah, exactly. So, or of Google. 00:48:11.860 --> 00:48:14.480 It is it's, it's an interesting, interesting drawing. 00:48:15.289 --> 00:48:18.079 We're gonna move now to more modern history. 00:48:18.860 --> 00:48:27.083 One method that is used over and over again, to prove the existence of Bigfoot is the discovery of massive footprints. 00:48:27.769 --> 00:48:37.719 Large footprints were found in a Northern California logging camp in 1958 along bluff Creek, which this location will come into play in a moment. 00:48:38.940 --> 00:48:46.039 One thing about Bigfoot in all of this mythology too, is that there are certain locations like bluff Creek in Mount St. 00:48:46.139 --> 00:48:56.639 Helens that kind of just come up again and again, but anyway, 1958 bluff Creek lagger Ray L Wallace started to report Bigfoot sightings. 00:48:57.099 --> 00:49:05.159 He also claimed to catch the noises of the creatures and audio recordings though. It was not a surprise to many in the Bigfoot community. 00:49:06.000 --> 00:49:09.280 After Wallace's death, his kids came clean and admitted. 00:49:09.440 --> 00:49:11.199 Their father's reports had been a hoax. 00:49:11.300 --> 00:49:12.132 Of course they were. 00:49:12.389 --> 00:49:15.840 They explained that he was a jokester and was having fun with it. 00:49:15.980 --> 00:49:18.800 And he wasn't trying to do anything malicious mm-hmm <affirmative>. 00:49:19.420 --> 00:49:24.072 It was later discovered that Wallace had been the one to leave the tracks at the logging site. 00:49:24.619 --> 00:49:29.519 He had used 16 inch carving of a human foot that he had gotten from a friend. 00:49:30.139 --> 00:49:35.000 And the whole thing started as a prank that Wallace was playing on another logger, like on a coworker, if you will. 00:49:35.230 --> 00:49:37.199 This is the penguin incident all over again. 00:49:37.900 --> 00:49:38.960 The penguin incident. 00:49:39.750 --> 00:49:55.280 Yeah. Like, like, I don't remember these specifics, but some guy for like decades was putting on these homemade cleats and stopping around a, a beach, uh, that was a, a penguin breeding ground. 00:49:56.500 --> 00:50:09.639 And he fooled scientists for literally decades because he would just do this intermittently enough that they thought that there was like some kind of like eight foot emperor penguin, uh, walking around this beach. 00:50:10.260 --> 00:50:13.960 And he like, the hoax went on forever. 00:50:10.260 --> 00:50:15.639 Like they, you know, they, they set up, uh, all sorts of stuff to, yeah. 00:50:15.900 --> 00:50:18.679 Try to track down this penguin and like he lived nearby. 00:50:18.681 --> 00:50:22.880 So he got to enjoy the show. That's fun. But yeah, eventually he came clean, I guess when he just got bored. 00:50:23.360 --> 00:50:36.880 <Laugh> yeah. That's funny. Eight foot emperor penguin. So the, the complexity with the Wallace hoax is that many people cite this as the first thing that really launched Bigfoot from local folklore to full blown crypted. 00:50:37.300 --> 00:50:39.199 And this is again in modern society, right? 00:50:39.201 --> 00:50:42.639 Because obviously Sasquatch type creatures have had their moment threat history. 00:50:42.829 --> 00:50:43.469 Sure. 00:50:43.469 --> 00:50:54.762 However, it was this story about huge footprints that ran in the Humboldt times that first sparked the term Bigfoot used to describe the massive footprints. 00:50:55.320 --> 00:50:56.360 Makes sense, got big. 00:50:56.389 --> 00:51:16.440 Feet in 1958, an article appeared in the Sunday edition of the Humboldt times, journalist Andrew Genzoli was conveying the message from a reader who had written in to tell the publication about mysterious, large footprints, AK Bigfoot that had been discovered by loggers in Northern California. 00:51:18.159 --> 00:51:44.233 Genzoli immediately connected these claims in a lighthearted way to the legends of the Yeti in other parts of the world, because of the success of this article in the overwhelming response from readers, GZA continued to write about these big foot claims and rumors, which just sparked such a huge interest nationally in modern times, big footprints still continue to be one of those important forms of evidence in the community. 00:51:44.329 --> 00:51:49.873 Cliff Barkman has one of the largest collections of world. 00:51:49.929 --> 00:51:58.039 Cliff is one of the hosts of popular animal planet show called finding Bigfoot, which I watched a bit of in preparation of for this series. 00:51:58.340 --> 00:51:59.639 Do tell how'd you think? 00:52:00.159 --> 00:52:06.440 I mean, it's, it's kind of got one of those, like, you know, like animal planet show vibe. 00:52:06.760 --> 00:52:07.592 Ancient. 00:52:07.989 --> 00:52:12.079 Yeah. Like it's a little bit like it's very produced as it has to be. Right. 00:52:12.081 --> 00:52:14.599 And I get that it's very produced. 00:52:14.679 --> 00:52:19.519 I didn't really connect that deeply with any of the hosts, but I only watched the first season. 00:52:19.599 --> 00:52:23.159 I think there's like 10 or 12 seasons and eventually the new Kirks are on it. 00:52:23.161 --> 00:52:26.480 So I, I do think it probably finds its voice. At some point. 00:52:27.119 --> 00:52:29.760 It may find its voice, but do they find Bigfoot? 00:52:30.070 --> 00:52:41.360 Well, they, they do have tons of like thermal imaging encounters and the auditory things happen, but there's, you know, I, again, I'm only talking about the first few episodes of season one that I watched. 00:52:41.659 --> 00:52:43.119 So I can't account for the whole series. 00:52:43.579 --> 00:52:44.413 I'm unconvinced. 00:52:44.690 --> 00:52:48.880 Let's talk about it on let's talk about the Patterson and Gimlin footage. 00:52:49.139 --> 00:52:51.639 What's that's the, is that the black and white famous one? 00:52:51.869 --> 00:52:55.519 It's the footage that is in color that you keep thinking is black and white. Mm. 00:52:56.230 --> 00:53:06.400 This is, I would say hands down the most famous Bigfoot siding of all time, when you Google Bigfoot an image from this recording is usually one of the first things that comes up. 00:53:06.659 --> 00:53:09.440 I'm putting that to the test right now. Okay. 00:53:10.219 --> 00:53:12.000 Big foot images. 00:53:12.699 --> 00:53:16.400 The very first image is in black and white. 00:53:16.670 --> 00:53:20.320 Show it to me. That's not black and white. And it is from this footage. 00:53:21.000 --> 00:53:21.833 The right. 00:53:22.659 --> 00:53:31.840 And that kind of arm swing that's frame 3 52, which has become the iconic, like way that we depict Bigfoot in pop culture. 00:53:32.619 --> 00:53:33.920 How do, how do I watch the video. 00:53:34.739 --> 00:53:35.599 Go to videos. 00:53:35.909 --> 00:53:40.659 Tapping over to videos. 00:53:35.909 --> 00:53:40.659 There's a guy in a suit. 00:53:40.809 --> 00:53:41.980 Okay. Let's talk about it. 00:53:42.920 --> 00:53:56.539 The alleged Patterson and Gimlin citing took place in bluff Creek, California bluff Creek. Again in 1967, Patterson and Gimlin had both worked in the rodeo prior to this siting. 00:53:57.110 --> 00:54:05.260 While in the woods, just south of Oregon, they claimed to have captured a Bigfoot walking along the Riverbed, using a 16 millimeter camera. 00:54:06.650 --> 00:54:10.139 This footage is some of the most highly contested in the community. 00:54:10.730 --> 00:54:15.179 Some staunchly believe while others wholeheartedly think it's a hoax. 00:54:15.929 --> 00:54:20.460 It's yet to be proven either way. 00:54:15.929 --> 00:54:22.139 But before we decide for ourselves, we need a bit of context here. 00:54:22.969 --> 00:54:23.900 Okay, I'm ready. 00:54:24.519 --> 00:54:39.139 So in 2005, Bob hous went on TV connected to a lie detector machine and claimed that he was the one who wore the suit and pretended to be Bigfoot in the Patterson Gimlin film. 00:54:39.480 --> 00:54:40.579 Bam done. He. 00:54:40.579 --> 00:54:54.860 Passed the test. But despite that, this confession seemed to do very little to convince believers that the recording wasn't real Jeff Meldrum is a professor at Idaho state university who teaches anthropology and anatomy. 00:54:55.800 --> 00:55:08.193 He is a hardcore believer in the footage, and he has dedicated much of his time to the study of Bigfoot. Jeff, along with his students has studied the anatomy of the creature in the footage at length. 00:55:08.570 --> 00:55:09.402 Okay. 00:55:09.519 --> 00:55:21.500 For example, he says that you can see the shoulder blades moving beneath the skin and other muscle groups engaging in the back, the arms in the legs that wouldn't exist in a simple ape suit. 00:55:22.980 --> 00:55:23.813 Why would they lie. 00:55:24.400 --> 00:55:27.739 For fame for glory for their moment, their 15 minutes of fame? 00:55:27.880 --> 00:55:32.579 No, no, no. Why would he lie about wearing the suit. 00:55:33.159 --> 00:55:35.820 For fame for glory? For his 15 minutes? 00:55:35.929 --> 00:55:39.460 It's the most famous Bigfoot footage of all time. You don't think someone might. 00:55:39.619 --> 00:55:43.139 I mean, listen, I'm not defending it either way. I'm just telling you why. 00:55:43.219 --> 00:55:44.980 I think someone might lie in that position. 00:55:45.800 --> 00:55:52.380 To be like, listen, I know we just discovered this amazing thing, but instead I'm gonna say it was me in his suit. 00:55:52.719 --> 00:55:57.219 He came forward like 45 or 50 years later. 00:55:57.489 --> 00:55:58.500 Yeah. They had their fun. 00:55:58.920 --> 00:56:00.059 On the other end of the spectrum. 00:56:00.250 --> 00:56:06.019 There's a video of a costume manufacturer named Philip Morris claiming that he's the. 00:56:06.500 --> 00:56:07.333 Philip Morris. Yeah. 00:56:07.579 --> 00:56:16.300 I, I don't know. I couldn't quite find out, but claiming that he sold the alleged ape suit to Patterson, so, okay. A, another notch against right? Yep. 00:56:16.769 --> 00:56:23.519 Patterson and Gimlin also collected molds of the footprints that, you know, allegedly the big foot created on film. 00:56:23.889 --> 00:56:34.719 These prints are not like most of the others they showed dragging and push off points and they have been both studied and endorsed by professor Jeff Meldrum. I. 00:56:34.800 --> 00:56:36.599 Would the professor Jeff Meldrum. 00:56:37.099 --> 00:56:40.739 Yes. You are such a little stinker. 00:56:41.250 --> 00:56:42.980 This is big foot. We're talking about. 00:56:43.639 --> 00:56:45.619 You said the same thing about Mo man. And. 00:56:45.780 --> 00:56:54.380 I was, I CA and I was swayed this on the other hand, all this evidence is presented of like, Hey, we faked it. 00:56:54.550 --> 00:56:57.099 We're admitting we faked it because you know what? Yeah. 00:56:57.101 --> 00:57:10.860 We want our moment to be like it, you know, it's like, you get that extra bump of, of recognition for like, and here's how we did it, you know? Uh, cuz they waited decades, right? 00:57:10.960 --> 00:57:18.980 It wasn't during its heyday where somebody was being overshadowed and just like, you know what, fuck you guys. I faked it. And here's here's me. 00:57:18.981 --> 00:57:24.380 Right? Uh, no they waited decades and then revealed all these fake things. 00:57:24.570 --> 00:57:27.820 Well the guys themselves never did, but other people came forward. 00:57:30.289 --> 00:57:34.699 Well, okay here, let me give you some of the reasons why I am skeptical. Okay. 00:57:34.701 --> 00:57:51.219 Okay. So Patterson was very, and he was kind of like the ringleader of the duo mm-hmm <affirmative> he was very much a Bigfoot hunter before the footage was captured, which I think is important to know it wasn't like these guys were out fishing in the woods and they happened upon something. Right. 00:57:51.489 --> 00:57:57.059 They were people that were already very interested in this, which I think does we have to take into account. 00:57:57.230 --> 00:58:00.940 Right. All the more reason to fabricate something. 00:58:00.969 --> 00:58:01.802 Exactly. 00:58:02.400 --> 00:58:07.059 And Patterson actually published a book about big foot the year before this footage was. 00:58:07.059 --> 00:58:09.460 Released. Oh, well there you go. I know that's it. 00:58:09.519 --> 00:58:13.739 He and how many extra copies did he sell? Because he had his little big foot. 00:58:13.769 --> 00:58:14.980 Footage. I, I agree. 00:58:15.400 --> 00:58:19.260 The other thing to know is that he profited big time from this footage. 00:58:19.760 --> 00:58:27.659 He became a celebrity within the community and he took the footage on tour throughout the us and charged admission. Okay. So what. 00:58:28.059 --> 00:58:28.059 Is. 00:58:28.059 --> 00:58:29.980 This? 1967. 00:58:30.440 --> 00:58:33.380 Before people can very easily have their own copies of footage. 00:58:33.789 --> 00:58:41.019 Regardless of whether or not you believe. One thing is clear though, this footage changed Bigfoot culture forever. 00:58:41.690 --> 00:58:42.329 Okay. 00:58:42.329 --> 00:58:55.820 Okay. Before this pivotal sighting Bigfoot was just a local legend, a regional crypted. After the Patterson Gimlin film, the creature became a major icon that literally everybody has heard of. Okay. 00:58:55.840 --> 00:59:12.699 Not literally everybody, but most everybody next, we're going to talk about the Paul Freeman footage, which I think maybe you'll have, I don't know, maybe you won't, but Paul Freeman is a big foot hunter who reported to have found tracks in 1994 with dermal ridges. 00:59:13.480 --> 00:59:28.760 So we're jumping ahead to the nineties here. What's more, he has footage, which you can find on YouTube showing his discovery, which was located in the blue mountains. Again, this evidence has been deemed very interesting by professor Jeff. Meldrum. 00:59:29.099 --> 00:59:30.559 The professor, Jeff Meldrum. 00:59:31.199 --> 00:59:38.199 <Laugh> the footage shows Freeman walking around in the wilderness, scanning the camera from one oversized print to the other. 00:59:38.940 --> 00:59:42.719 He also shows the cast that he's making from the prints on camera. 00:59:43.460 --> 00:59:46.239 And then it pans over to him making the prints. 00:59:46.900 --> 00:59:54.960 No like he's, he's molding, he's molding them. So on camera, he measures the distance between each print, which is about 32 inches. 00:59:55.619 --> 00:59:59.360 And you can see from the footage that the area is filled with prints. 00:59:59.360 --> 01:00:01.159 Like you can kind of, you know, it's very clear. 01:00:01.940 --> 01:00:20.000 He also discovers on camera tracks that lead up and down this sort of dirt hill that look like drag marks, but that's where things get very interesting. So then while he's, you know, he's recording his footprints, he's recording the MOTS, he's making he pans up. Boom. 01:00:20.750 --> 01:00:22.559 Bigfoot, Bigfoot. Yep. It was Bigfoot. 01:00:23.260 --> 01:00:25.320 In the footage. And I wasn't expecting that. 01:00:25.320 --> 01:00:27.519 I thought it was just gonna be footprints. Okay. 01:00:27.579 --> 01:00:32.239 And the creature is very calmly waiting at the top of this hill. 01:00:33.019 --> 01:00:47.320 And when Paul notices him, he sort of just walks away the Bigfoot and many believers point to the excitement in Paul's voice when he sees the creature saying he's either the best actor ever, or it's real. And Paul has like a very good reputation. 01:00:47.320 --> 01:00:57.119 He's like a wildlife guy. He's a hiker, he's a photographer. And he's not, he was, he's not kind of like this showman swindler in the same way Patterson was. 01:00:57.179 --> 01:01:03.480 And so people put a lot more stock in, in the Paul Freeman footage. 01:01:03.780 --> 01:01:06.400 You're saying he's the Bob Don of Bigfoot hunters. There. 01:01:06.409 --> 01:01:08.719 There you go. Do you wanna watch the video? 01:01:09.349 --> 01:01:14.000 Sure. Well, before I do, you've seen this, right? Yes. Are you convinced? 01:01:14.599 --> 01:01:20.559 I wa I thought, I, I don't think a video could ever con be convincing totally because. 01:01:21.320 --> 01:01:23.320 On the days since CGI was invented, but. 01:01:23.320 --> 01:01:29.239 Even before that it could be a man and suit. Like there's just, especially with Bigfoot stuff. It's so hard to see. 01:01:29.539 --> 01:01:39.000 But the interesting thing is that all of the comments are really like supportive, which obviously shouldn't sway you, what you think. 01:01:39.099 --> 01:01:45.599 But people on YouTube are very hyper critical and they really seem to take, everyone really seems to take to this video. 01:01:46.070 --> 01:01:46.920 What am I Googling? 01:01:47.030 --> 01:01:51.559 Paul Freeman footage. So now you've seen the Paul Freeman footage. 01:01:52.269 --> 01:01:53.103 Sure. Have. 01:01:53.590 --> 01:01:54.679 From 1994. 01:01:54.750 --> 01:01:55.960 From 1994. 01:01:57.039 --> 01:01:58.320 You you're not, you're not convinced. 01:01:58.760 --> 01:02:00.280 No. Okay. Here's the thing. Okay. 01:02:01.139 --> 01:02:06.079 As someone who works around cameras quite a bit, you're squinting at me. 01:02:06.081 --> 01:02:09.320 You're actually glaring. You're glaring with, through squinted eyes. 01:02:10.639 --> 01:02:11.679 Go continue, continue. 01:02:12.230 --> 01:02:14.000 When you're filming something. Right. 01:02:14.059 --> 01:02:17.639 And you're hoping to just capture something, right. You don't know it. 01:02:17.670 --> 01:02:21.000 It's not planned. You're just, you're just hoping, right. 01:02:21.059 --> 01:02:30.239 You're fishing basically there. If you happen to catch something on camera, there's usually some kind of, you know, exclamation, right? 01:02:30.460 --> 01:02:31.440 He exclaims. 01:02:31.980 --> 01:02:33.559 No, he is like, oh, there it goes. He goes. 01:02:33.820 --> 01:02:37.199 Oh my God, there we go. There we goes right now. And he freaks out. 01:02:37.360 --> 01:02:39.039 He starts like chasing after him. 01:02:39.820 --> 01:02:43.559 He does not, he does not chase he. So yes, he does. He. 01:02:44.420 --> 01:02:45.960 He runs up the hill after them. 01:02:46.519 --> 01:02:50.840 Uh that's that? So here's the thing. The thing walks, the thing walks off to the left. 01:02:51.030 --> 01:02:54.880 Also. Would you run after a 15 foot gorilla in the. 01:02:55.699 --> 01:03:07.400 No, no, I wouldn't, but I wouldn't, but I wouldn't have the camera start gently panning over to the right over up. Just keep searching around. It's like, oh wow. I saw one. 01:03:07.530 --> 01:03:09.239 Maybe the let's go on. See the over. 01:03:09.480 --> 01:03:11.760 Here. You're in, you're reenacting this very poorly. 01:03:13.300 --> 01:03:15.320 I'm I'm conveying what, what I took away. 01:03:15.320 --> 01:03:23.039 From this. I'm going to have, I'm going to challenge all of the listeners to go It's called the Freeman footage on YouTube. 01:03:23.070 --> 01:03:24.599 It's like an eight minute and something video. 01:03:24.869 --> 01:03:25.340 Sure. 01:03:25.340 --> 01:03:30.114 But if something walks off to the left Uhhuh <affirmative> where do you look for it. 01:03:30.460 --> 01:03:31.293 To the left? 01:03:31.960 --> 01:03:32.880 You, you follow it. 01:03:33.139 --> 01:03:34.679 He, he has to get up the hill. 01:03:34.860 --> 01:03:36.760 He does this. This is after he was up the hill. 01:03:37.179 --> 01:03:37.659 No. 01:03:37.659 --> 01:03:44.239 He starts looking down at the trail, the right sweep in the brush, just like, Hmm. Let's see if, what else we see. 01:03:44.420 --> 01:03:49.199 You don't know where he's repositioned himself. This is, this is a, a useless argument. 01:03:50.099 --> 01:04:14.380 I'm I'm saying is I was not convinced I was his, uh, candor while he was like making the, the, the prince mm-hmm <affirmative> hundred, hundred percent. This seemed very, very accurate. Like, this seemed very authentic. Like what, the way he was speaking to himself, the way that he was kind of the way he was filming things, like, it felt very authentic. Yeah. And then once Bigfoot shows up, he's like, oh, wow, Bigfoot. 01:04:14.380 --> 01:04:17.760 That's not how he responds at all. He's like, holy cow. 01:04:18.460 --> 01:04:26.719 And he also proceeds with caution because who knows, you know, if it's a safe situation, I actually think this one is of them all. 01:04:27.579 --> 01:04:27.980 If. 01:04:27.980 --> 01:04:29.159 You convincing. 01:04:29.309 --> 01:04:44.559 Have spent a, a good amount of time and, you know, mental energy chasing something, something that is known to be very elusive, uh, especially when it comes to being around cameras. And then you catch it. 01:04:44.690 --> 01:04:46.840 Don't you think that'd be kind of an adrenaline rush moment. 01:04:47.719 --> 01:04:49.119 I think he has an adrenaline rush. 01:04:49.260 --> 01:04:52.480 He is so just like, Hmm. What's over here. 01:04:52.719 --> 01:04:53.552 I disagree. 01:04:53.869 --> 01:04:57.440 Okay. And you're entitled to that opinion. 01:04:53.869 --> 01:04:57.440 Thank you. Because this is America. 01:04:58.119 --> 01:05:07.400 I <laugh>, I think the thing about this video, that's more the most convincing, because again, anyone could wear a suit is his reaction for me. Hi him, his responses. 01:05:07.400 --> 01:05:11.119 And there's actually also earlier in the footage from when he realizes it. 01:05:11.630 --> 01:05:20.679 There's a moment like around the three, somewhere in the three minute mark where you see a big foot quite close, which you didn't notice it while we were watching it. 01:05:20.681 --> 01:05:30.880 And I didn't the first time either watching him quite close that he, he doesn't notice. And you didn't notice either because they, what I do learn from this is that they do blend quite well. 01:05:31.099 --> 01:05:37.039 And they know if they stay still in a wooded area, it's very hard to make them out from the background. 01:05:37.559 --> 01:05:45.679 I mean, in all fairness, you could point out that, Hey, that's a big foot, but we're watching a super low resolution video. 01:05:46.300 --> 01:05:55.599 That's gone through a thousand downloads and reloads to YouTube, right. It's, it's a really all three pixels of Bigfoot, you know? Sure. 01:05:55.809 --> 01:06:06.239 Maybe that, that is a dark spot to have any kind of validity would need like a decent quality version of the video. 01:06:07.099 --> 01:06:24.079 And that's, that's also like something that I always think of when we see like photographic evidence of some of the supernatural, how UFO, sightings, Bigfoot, sightings, all these things drop off like crazy. 01:06:24.469 --> 01:06:28.119 Once people start carrying HD cameras in their pockets at all times. 01:06:28.360 --> 01:06:30.239 I don't think that that's gonna be the case here. 01:06:30.429 --> 01:06:33.079 Okay. I guess we'll have to figure that out in part two. 01:06:33.739 --> 01:06:40.079 Yes. All right. I mean, I will admit that you can get into a pretty wild YouTube or Reddit rabbit hole. 01:06:40.300 --> 01:06:49.400 If you look up footage of Bigfoot, sightings and humanoid sightings and all these things, there's just like too many for us to talk about holistically. 01:06:49.400 --> 01:06:57.920 And if you wanna talk about modern versions, Alan, They're not more valid than these are though. 01:06:57.940 --> 01:07:16.039 And these ones seem very iconic culturally throughout history, but you can certainly find HD versions on Reddit today that I've spent many hours in the past few weeks scouring them, but it's, it's still the same thing I can, you can still, you can Photoshop something even easier today than you could back then. 01:07:16.170 --> 01:07:17.003 Absolutely. 01:07:17.179 --> 01:07:24.719 So I don't know that the timeline, I don't think that big foot sightings have dissipated at all over the years. 01:07:25.179 --> 01:07:39.159 But what I'm saying is that once your video evidence, can't be just like hand waved away with like, well, it's kind of hard to see what's going on. It gets thrown out. 01:07:39.460 --> 01:08:04.880 I'm going to, I'm gonna read a quote from national geographic to send us out of part one quote. In 1969, the board of county commissioners of Scamnia county, Oregon introduced a bill stating that any person found to have slain a Bigfoot creature would be punishable by law by a fine up, up to $10,000 or imprisoned for up to five years. 01:08:05.539 --> 01:08:12.039 The board did not. However claim that such a creature definitely existed in the United States. 01:08:12.139 --> 01:08:26.520 The Bigfoot lore kicked into high gear by the seventies and eighties, there was an increase in sightings, footprints, documentaries, and by 1987 Bigfoot even made an appearance in a Hollywood blockbuster Harry and the Hendersons. 01:08:27.060 --> 01:08:33.000 So we're going to sort of leave you all here for this week at the height of Bigfoot mania. I. 01:08:33.000 --> 01:08:42.640 Would like to say one thing. Okay. Just, we're gonna look at this law from a slightly different we're in the height of Bigfoot mania, right? 01:08:43.239 --> 01:08:43.750 Yep. 01:08:43.750 --> 01:09:01.873 There's a lot of people that believe in Bigfoot and they're would like nothing more than to bring a Bigfoot corpse back to prove to the world of existence once. And for all simultaneously there is just as many people putting on big foot suits to fool people. 01:09:02.520 --> 01:09:14.680 I guarantee you that this has ended in at least one accidental homicide that they, that they have shot at someone who is just trying to give them a, a little scare or fun story quite quite possible. 01:09:14.770 --> 01:09:34.600 Could be. So we will leave you here, not only at the height of Bigfoot mania in history, but also at the height of tension between Alan and I <laugh>. And we have a lot of really cool kind of Bigfoot interpretations we're gonna get into next episode. 01:09:34.739 --> 01:09:37.880 We have some firsthand experiences we're gonna share. 01:09:37.939 --> 01:09:58.720 We have obviously all of the film and pop culture references, but most I'm most excited to talk about the global versions of Sasquatch and Bigfoot, which is just really fun. So, so lots more to come next episode, hopefully you're all hanging in there with us and you're not too frustrated at the closemindedness being represented on this episode. 01:09:59.659 --> 01:10:00.960 And we'll talk to you next time. 01:10:01.560 --> 01:10:02.319 Okay. Bye. Bye.
