<v Speaker 1>Don't be bad. It's the Internet. You're busy.
<v Speaker 2>Let's do this for July twenty ninth, twenty twenty four.
<v Speaker 2>For the next hour or so, let me help you
<v Speaker 2>sort through the world of gaming on Game Mess Mornings
<v Speaker 2>Live with me Jeff Grubb. Today, Capcom continues to dominate
<v Speaker 2>and Gearbox threatens us with another Borderlands movie. But first,
<v Speaker 2>please join me and welcoming today's co host the Game
<v Speaker 2>Mess Mornings. It's Jana Choa. Everybody, Jan how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>I am so tired turning champion. Yeah, you've had a
<v Speaker 2>go of it recently. You were in Japan, but that's
<v Speaker 2>not where you're coming from.
<v Speaker 1>You're coming from.
<v Speaker 2>San Diego because you did that as well. How has
<v Speaker 2>it been going for you? Have you found time to recover?
<v Speaker 3>It? All?
<v Speaker 4>Negative? Not at all? And it's fine. Let's keep going
<v Speaker 4>into the can you'll fall off Jeff.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, we were looking at some events coming up too,
<v Speaker 2>and it's like, oh my god, we're got to do
<v Speaker 2>this back to back and stuff like that. Or some
<v Speaker 2>people are going traveling different countries and going to cities.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's not going to slow down.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think I uh, I think I might tag
<v Speaker 4>out of one of those.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
<v Speaker 2>Well, we we could construct some of these things. That's
<v Speaker 2>such a way that you can tag out. And I
<v Speaker 2>suggest everyone tag out if they have to do, not
<v Speaker 2>put yourself through the ringer for the sake of putting
<v Speaker 2>yourself through the ringer. Uh or it will be completely fine,
<v Speaker 2>and maybe you at home will also be completely fine.
<v Speaker 2>Jeff Greb, you know what I learned that I feel
<v Speaker 2>like in my time in the video game media industry.
<v Speaker 2>I have been to several maybe two E three's three
<v Speaker 2>summer game fests, and surprisingly, the video game industry is
<v Speaker 2>a tag more well, more organized than the entertainment industry. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>there's a lot of people that don't like wasting time
<v Speaker 2>in the video game industry. And you could tell at
<v Speaker 2>some events where it's, oh, people have thought about a
<v Speaker 2>lot of this stuff. And maybe it's a little surprising,
<v Speaker 2>but I'm guessing that this is in comparison to and
<v Speaker 2>in contrast to San Diego Comic Con, which you didn't
<v Speaker 2>necessarily know what was going on when you went there.
<v Speaker 2>Now that you've come from there, do you know what happened?
<v Speaker 4>To be honest, no, but let me tell you I
<v Speaker 4>always enjoy getting to work with the extended fandom of crew.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, you know, got to work with Emma, of course,
<v Speaker 4>Chris Hayner, Tam and Lucy were down there, but also
<v Speaker 4>shouts out to the whole fandom team, the production team
<v Speaker 4>that was down there.
<v Speaker 3>A lot of bonding time in being down in the trenches.
<v Speaker 4>I actually didn't get to see too much of the
<v Speaker 4>convention floor itself because I was in our little press
<v Speaker 4>suite right ninety percent of the time, so I didn't
<v Speaker 4>get to witness the full bedlam that is a comic con.
<v Speaker 1>You meant djado, I'm sure though, No.
<v Speaker 4>No, okay, So that was happening in Hall H. We
<v Speaker 4>were in an hotel directly next to the convention center.
<v Speaker 4>I was scared because I heard a huge welling of yelling,
<v Speaker 4>Oh you heard that happened. I heard it from our
<v Speaker 4>hotel suite. That's crazy. That's the kind of thing that
<v Speaker 4>makes it. It's like, oh, okay, well done. That's why
<v Speaker 4>they do it.
<v Speaker 2>They can get that kind of reaction from it, and
<v Speaker 2>there's just nowhere else, nowhere else to get that kind
<v Speaker 2>of reaction.
<v Speaker 4>And then the day previously, there was a fire at
<v Speaker 4>Comic con really, so I was just concerned that something
<v Speaker 4>was happening.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, bet that sound that sounds scary. Right, So now
<v Speaker 2>there is a shoot fire and not a work fire. Okay,
<v Speaker 2>so a shoot fire and then you hear yelling the
<v Speaker 2>next day. Yeah, I would assume the worst for sure.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>That being said, I found out that there are a
<v Speaker 4>lot of pretty cool and neat shows that I now
<v Speaker 4>have added to my my my list of things to
<v Speaker 4>watch which I don't like.
<v Speaker 3>It turns out, have you ever heard of the show
<v Speaker 3>called from.
<v Speaker 1>Plus? That's such a It's a Japanese developer that makes
<v Speaker 1>video games from.
<v Speaker 4>That's what I thought. I was like, we got why
<v Speaker 4>are we interviewing elders all right? Not elder scrolls? Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>and no it's a completely different show on MGM.
<v Speaker 1>Plus MGM plus right, the one to watch not for HBO.
<v Speaker 3>Yes.
<v Speaker 4>Oh, also, I think I want to become a Star
<v Speaker 4>Trek fan. Yeah, this is a great idea.
<v Speaker 2>I saw your I saw this and I was pretty excited,
<v Speaker 2>as I am with most of your tweets, but when
<v Speaker 2>I saw that one, I was like, yeah, this should happen.
<v Speaker 2>I think a great place to start is with the
<v Speaker 2>movies there are a lot, not like the original Star
<v Speaker 2>Trek movie. That one is like you save that until
<v Speaker 2>you're like super into it. But honestly, if you start
<v Speaker 2>with like Wrath of Khan, even though there's a there's
<v Speaker 2>an episode of the original series that plays into that,
<v Speaker 2>it doesn't matter. Watch Ratha Kahn, watch the third movie,
<v Speaker 2>the fourth movie, maybe not the fifth movie, sixth movie,
<v Speaker 2>and then and then see how you feel about the
<v Speaker 2>Next Generation stuff. That's a really great way to get
<v Speaker 2>because all those movies are really really good, they just
<v Speaker 2>have that excellent like Star Trek, here's a great premise,
<v Speaker 2>and then here's some fun characters experiencing that premise. So
<v Speaker 2>I would start there, and then I don't know, are
<v Speaker 2>you thinking the original series or you thinking Next Generation?
<v Speaker 2>What's the plan?
<v Speaker 4>I was gonna solicit some advice as to where to start,
<v Speaker 4>because I have heard that path of approaching it through
<v Speaker 4>the movies first, and then if that tickles my fancy,
<v Speaker 4>then to dip into the old show and yeah, then
<v Speaker 4>into the Next Generation. We had Kate Mullgrew in the
<v Speaker 4>press Suite interview and we interviewed her because she's in
<v Speaker 4>Star Trek Prodigy, which is an animated show.
<v Speaker 1>On right, Okay, yeah, totally.
<v Speaker 3>And she was an absolute delight.
<v Speaker 2>She seems awesome. She seems really really cool and for
<v Speaker 2>people and her that that is the original captain of
<v Speaker 2>Voyager right that we're talking about here. Yes, she is awesome.
<v Speaker 2>She's like was in Orange is a New Black and
<v Speaker 2>all this other stuff. She's been in a ton of
<v Speaker 2>other things. But uh, yeah, she she seems.
<v Speaker 1>Like a really cool person. So I'm glad to hear that.
<v Speaker 4>And let me tell you, people in Hollywood they are
<v Speaker 4>pretty yeah, pretty people.
<v Speaker 1>Really pretty people.
<v Speaker 3>Huh.
<v Speaker 1>They got them down in San Diego. Huh.
<v Speaker 3>I felt like an ugo.
<v Speaker 2>Oh no, Jen never they were. They were looking at
<v Speaker 2>you and thinking the same thing. Come on, yeah, I I'm.
<v Speaker 1>Happy for you with the Star Trek thing. Go for it.
<v Speaker 2>Definitely start with h Yeah, start with Wratha Khan. I
<v Speaker 2>think that's a great place to start. And that's honestly,
<v Speaker 2>that's what really super got me into Star Trek.
<v Speaker 3>I was.
<v Speaker 2>I had watched Star Trek before that, but then it
<v Speaker 2>was Christmas Eve and me and my brother are just like,
<v Speaker 2>you you want to watch something. I'm like, I ever
<v Speaker 2>rapped the con and I was gonna watch things like whatever,
<v Speaker 2>and we watched that. We're doing this every Christmas Eve
<v Speaker 2>as soon as soon as it was over and became
<v Speaker 2>a tradition.
<v Speaker 1>I love it. Yeah, it's a good time.
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's explain what we do here most weekdays. I,
<v Speaker 2>Jeff Greb will help piece your gaming life back together.
<v Speaker 2>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our
<v Speaker 2>own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the
<v Speaker 2>input of a bona fide expert who will make me
<v Speaker 2>look smart. If you were watching live on Twitch, welcome.
<v Speaker 2>You can always listen to the show later on podcast
<v Speaker 2>feeds by searching for Games Mornings, or find the RSS
<v Speaker 2>on GiantBomb dot com. You can also catch the show
<v Speaker 2>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 2>let's start the morning mess with. Capcom says all business
<v Speaker 2>segments outperformed in latest results. This is from Andy Robinson
<v Speaker 2>at VGC, and it's gonna be a little bit of
<v Speaker 2>an Andy Robinson's show here everybody. Capcom says it's on
<v Speaker 2>track to achieve it it's earnings forecast for the year
<v Speaker 2>and that all of its business segments outperformed its plan
<v Speaker 2>in the most recent quarter. The Monster Hunter publisher reported
<v Speaker 2>its financial results for the three months intot June thirtieth,
<v Speaker 2>twenty twenty four, and said that it was on track
<v Speaker 2>despite net sales being down thirty two point five percent
<v Speaker 2>and operating income being down forty six point four percent,
<v Speaker 2>both for beating both significantly for coming over across the
<v Speaker 2>past their expectations for both categories by the end of
<v Speaker 2>the year. The company attributed the year over year declined
<v Speaker 2>to the release of Street Fighter six last June, and
<v Speaker 2>noted that its releases are heavily stacked towards the second
<v Speaker 2>half of the financial calendar, which ends in March twenty
<v Speaker 2>twenty five. Currently, the publisher has confirmed Dead Rising Deluxe
<v Speaker 2>remaster for release in September. Monster Hunter Wilds currently has
<v Speaker 2>a loose twenty twenty five release window.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see and then.
<v Speaker 2>Capcom's arcade operations, amusement, equipments, and other business segments.
<v Speaker 1>Were all up during the quarter.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Capcom hitting on all cylinders is kind of the
<v Speaker 2>phrase we always go to when we're talking about this company.
<v Speaker 2>Right now continues to be true. I get kind of
<v Speaker 2>excited though, when I hear them say, hey, we yeah, sure,
<v Speaker 2>We're kind of looking to be down year over year,
<v Speaker 2>but our expectations are here, we're going to surpass that.
<v Speaker 2>And then our release schedule is heavily weighted toward Q
<v Speaker 2>four of this year in Q one of next year,
<v Speaker 2>and those are calendar quarters, so into March twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 2>This is a company that usually releases something massive in
<v Speaker 2>the first quarter. Obviously they have Monster Hunter Wilds coming
<v Speaker 2>for a loose twenty twenty five window. That one probably
<v Speaker 2>does launch in Q one, right, that could come out
<v Speaker 2>in March of next year.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I'd have to assume that that is their big
<v Speaker 4>tent pull for the first half of twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 4>And I mean when I checked it out at SGF,
<v Speaker 4>it felt like it was pretty far along the process
<v Speaker 4>of being like good to go, exciting for Capcom across
<v Speaker 4>the board, like any and everything, like no matter what,
<v Speaker 4>like the the scale of the titles are putting out.
<v Speaker 4>Like I wasn't initially sold on Kunitsugami Path of the Goddess,
<v Speaker 4>but hearing the buzz after its release and how people
<v Speaker 4>slowly start to pick it up, I am pretty interested
<v Speaker 4>in it, especially hearing that it is akin to a
<v Speaker 4>PS two era of game.
<v Speaker 2>Which I started playing it very much so very Chris
<v Speaker 2>person was like Pickmann ass game, PS two ass game
<v Speaker 2>any minute, positive and I'm like, I'm playing at that's
<v Speaker 2>the case.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, And I think I could go for a game
<v Speaker 4>like that right now. And if Capcom is able to
<v Speaker 4>continue to hit audiences across the board in terms of
<v Speaker 4>like triple A blockbuster and a huge type of game
<v Speaker 4>like the New Monster Hunter, or appeal to the nostalgia
<v Speaker 4>with like a Dead Rising and then hit the odd
<v Speaker 4>balls with a game like Path of the Goddess, I
<v Speaker 4>think they can continue to outperform everything.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I think what they are are You're in a situation
<v Speaker 2>where I think they understand their business. They understand what
<v Speaker 2>their teams are capable of. They aren't overextending themselves too frequently.
<v Speaker 2>They are putting themselves in positions where they are making
<v Speaker 2>big games that don't take a decade to make, so
<v Speaker 2>a lot of remakes. It seems like a very smart
<v Speaker 2>strategy because it's what people want. People really want those
<v Speaker 2>two it reinvests in their most popular franchises like Resident
<v Speaker 2>Evil and then and then three it is something that's
<v Speaker 2>like they understand and they have the engine and the
<v Speaker 2>technology to get that stuff done relatively quickly, and then
<v Speaker 2>for when they take risks, they're like looking around, like
<v Speaker 2>what can we can we try something and it ends
<v Speaker 2>up being something like Kaninsugami.
<v Speaker 1>Path of the Goddess words, Hey, this is This feels.
<v Speaker 2>Smaller and different and experimental, and at the same time
<v Speaker 2>they're they're putting some Capcom love on it, and most
<v Speaker 2>people seem to really like that game, including myself Climb.
<v Speaker 2>I'm enjoying quite a bit now that I'm playing it.
<v Speaker 2>So it's like, yeah, Capcom just seems to have this
<v Speaker 2>formula figured out, and it's a formula that enables them
<v Speaker 2>to do a bunch of different kinds of games. So
<v Speaker 2>it's not you're not going to end up with formula
<v Speaker 2>like games.
<v Speaker 1>It's just a.
<v Speaker 2>Formula with a lot of variables that they can change
<v Speaker 2>to make different kinds of stuff, and that's going to
<v Speaker 2>keep them feeling fresh going forward.
<v Speaker 4>And for what it's worth, speaking about the formula style
<v Speaker 4>of some of their games, I have heard a lot
<v Speaker 4>of positive buzz about the Niantic Monster Hunter game maybe
<v Speaker 4>and how even some of the longtime hardcore Pokemon Go
<v Speaker 4>audience has dipped over to go check out Monster Hunter.
<v Speaker 4>I think it's Monster Hunter now, Monster Hunter now. That's right, Yes,
<v Speaker 4>Monster Hunter now. And I'm excited for the possibility of
<v Speaker 4>other offshoots on mobile, perhaps that Capcom is curious about,
<v Speaker 4>Like Grub, I'm not gonna say this, I don't want
<v Speaker 4>to put this.
<v Speaker 3>Evil out into the world, but what if.
<v Speaker 4>Capcom re teams up with Niantic and let's be jack
<v Speaker 4>in everywhere across the world.
<v Speaker 1>That's that's an idea, right there.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, yeah, Mega Man Battle Network now, yeahat'll network go.
<v Speaker 1>You could see how that just makes a ton of sense.
<v Speaker 1>I like that a lot.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Okay, hold on, I need to tm TM TMTM.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah there it is. Yeah, yeah, Capcom, there it is. Hey,
<v Speaker 1>it is.
<v Speaker 2>Exciting to like to think, oh my god, the Niantic
<v Speaker 2>can still get one of these. That feels exciting. And
<v Speaker 2>Monster Hunters, you know, definitely the right audience that they
<v Speaker 2>eat that stuff up. And it also seems to be
<v Speaker 2>a platform where they're like, hey, we could do something new.
<v Speaker 2>We can make these boss fights feel very specific. And
<v Speaker 2>I don't know how the game works, so I'd have
<v Speaker 2>to have to take check it out myself. But uh,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know it just continues to sound like that
<v Speaker 2>Capcom magic that it rubs off on everyone. So if
<v Speaker 2>you get involved in one of their projects, they're going
<v Speaker 2>to be right there making sure that you do it
<v Speaker 2>as good as you possible we can, and I think
<v Speaker 2>that is what we continue to see from Capcom themselves,
<v Speaker 2>So the growth will continue to come. And it's just
<v Speaker 2>strong fundamentals, right. It's like when you look at a
<v Speaker 2>team that it's like, man, you know they have they
<v Speaker 2>have their superstars, but that's not why they're winning. They're
<v Speaker 2>winning because they're just doing the fundamentals right across the board,
<v Speaker 2>and they do it with every single one of these games.
<v Speaker 2>And that that's the sense I get from Capcom for sure.
<v Speaker 2>The Sacramento Kings there, the Sacramento Kings there, Tim Duncan's
<v Speaker 2>San Antonio Spurs is what I'm thinking there. You know,
<v Speaker 2>Arry clear clearly great players, nothing flashy, They're just doing
<v Speaker 2>their thing. And of course Capcom's got some flashy games,
<v Speaker 2>but listen, it doesn't fully work, but I got there
<v Speaker 2>all right. Capcom did explain how Marvel versus Capcom Fighting
<v Speaker 2>Game Collection, Arcades Arcade Classics came to be. This is
<v Speaker 2>from Nintendo Everything last month's Nintendo Direct featured a few
<v Speaker 2>surprise announcements, including a big one for the fighting game community,
<v Speaker 2>that being Marvel Versus Capcom Fighting game our Fighting Collection
<v Speaker 2>Arcade Classics. That package comes with Marvel Versus Capcom two,
<v Speaker 2>which came as a shock to many. Shuhei Matsumoto, the
<v Speaker 2>collections producer, recently spoke about how it all came to be.
<v Speaker 2>It turns out that there's been long been interest on
<v Speaker 2>Capcom side, and the company was in talks with Marvel
<v Speaker 2>for years now to see whether we can make this happen.
<v Speaker 2>Marvel seemed to generate interest and fans wanted to see
<v Speaker 2>classic games.
<v Speaker 1>On modern hardware.
<v Speaker 2>Below are the full comments from Matsumoto in terms of
<v Speaker 2>past Capcom developed Marvel titles, this has been something that
<v Speaker 2>myself and the team have been wanting to re release
<v Speaker 2>for years and years now. It was just a matter
<v Speaker 2>of timing and making sure that everyone was on board.
<v Speaker 2>We've actually been in talks with Marvel for years now
<v Speaker 2>to see whether we can make this happen. They were
<v Speaker 2>also on board because of that. It's kind of like
<v Speaker 2>the stars aligned. The timing was great, and now we
<v Speaker 2>are actually able to bring it to life.
<v Speaker 1>We're all very excited.
<v Speaker 2>And some of the inspiration about doing this was that
<v Speaker 2>Marvel took notice of the community based tournaments at places
<v Speaker 2>like Evo, with Ultimate Marvel, Marvel Versus Capcom three and
<v Speaker 2>other Marvel tournaments happening. They know that people really love
<v Speaker 2>the series and really want these games to be available
<v Speaker 2>on modern platforms, so now is the chance for them
<v Speaker 2>to do so.
<v Speaker 1>I think.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe maybe he's overstating the effect of community run tournaments
<v Speaker 2>for games like this, but I don't think so, Jam,
<v Speaker 2>because I think the place that Marvel's in right now,
<v Speaker 2>where obviously they very recently on top of the world
<v Speaker 2>with the MCU and still make a lot of money
<v Speaker 2>from those movies, it's not like it's like completely fell
<v Speaker 2>off or something like that. I mean, yeah, this past
<v Speaker 2>the weekend, yes exactly. It feels like it's swinging back
<v Speaker 2>real hard right now with Wolver Raine and Deadpool just
<v Speaker 2>crushing everything. Uh and then j RDJ News and all
<v Speaker 2>that stuff. But I think what they are appreciating is
<v Speaker 2>there are pockets of fandom that they that is like
<v Speaker 2>really passionate and really sincere, and they just like the
<v Speaker 2>game for whatever reason. The Marvel character is a huge
<v Speaker 2>part of it, the way it plays, the synergies, all
<v Speaker 2>that stuff that's going on there, And I think Marvel's
<v Speaker 2>at a point where they can't ignore that and just
<v Speaker 2>go on their own. If they have something that works,
<v Speaker 2>they need to turn back and embrace it. And it
<v Speaker 2>feels like that's what's happening here is like, Hey, we
<v Speaker 2>had a great partner in Capcom. Capcom is really responsible
<v Speaker 2>with this with this IP. We feel like we can
<v Speaker 2>trust them, and we've seen from the fandom that they
<v Speaker 2>continue to want this really bad. We have to capitalize
<v Speaker 2>on that. It's kind of what I'm getting the sense here.
<v Speaker 2>What do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? I think so too, And I think.
<v Speaker 4>Out of a lot of fandoms and gaming communities, not
<v Speaker 4>saying that the FGC has never been a toxic community,
<v Speaker 4>but it has always been a spirited and very passionate
<v Speaker 4>fan baise, specifically with the Marvel versus Capcom games, and
<v Speaker 4>I think, you.
<v Speaker 3>Know, with the the boom of the MCU.
<v Speaker 4>There was kind of like like a space for those
<v Speaker 4>games to return in such a way in like a
<v Speaker 4>strong force, But because of licensing and because of miscellaneous issues,
<v Speaker 4>it seems like that would never come to be and
<v Speaker 4>seeing this feels like a good step in the right direction,
<v Speaker 4>and perhaps that there's trust on both sides for Capcom
<v Speaker 4>to be able to do their thing and and make
<v Speaker 4>their make the moves and swings because they have the
<v Speaker 4>momentum they have, they've had the pedigree, but also for
<v Speaker 4>Disney to be like, all right, okay, well we'll play ball,
<v Speaker 4>we'll stop we'll stop being jerks, and you know, maybe
<v Speaker 4>we can get quackshot in this game.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe that would be incredible.
<v Speaker 2>Actually, that'd be awesome, honestly, Yeah, that is like the
<v Speaker 2>next step is to like those Disney Capcom collaborations, get
<v Speaker 2>those in the game. That would be fantastic. Yeah, this
<v Speaker 2>this game still common going to be very exciting. I
<v Speaker 2>played a little bit at SVC and it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I see what people men are like. That game's not great.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's bad in some ways. I think it's interesting
<v Speaker 2>though in a lot of other ways too. But this
<v Speaker 2>is just an unmitigated yeah, great game. People have been
<v Speaker 2>waiting for it to return. Here it is.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, And I feel like sometimes after these big esport
<v Speaker 4>type things or tournament video game tournament things, there's like
<v Speaker 4>sometimes some negativity that winds up coming out of like
<v Speaker 4>the positivity of the initial event, But I feel like
<v Speaker 4>after the EVO boom, it's just been the positivity of
<v Speaker 4>the fighting game community.
<v Speaker 1>Yep.
<v Speaker 4>And I definitely think that is something that Disney and
<v Speaker 4>Marvel need to try and I don't want to say
<v Speaker 4>take advantage of, but capitalize off of and and just
<v Speaker 4>appeal to that community.
<v Speaker 1>Yep.
<v Speaker 2>Absolutely, I think it's Uh, it feels like a good
<v Speaker 2>long term investment to make that community feel good about
<v Speaker 2>your stuff again and and it'll pay off in the end.
<v Speaker 4>It seems like, can you imagine if Disney through the
<v Speaker 4>money at Capcom that they've thrown at Epic with whatever
<v Speaker 4>that Fortnite thing they're trying to do.
<v Speaker 2>Is Yeah, that's right, God, I mean, and I'm sure
<v Speaker 2>that Fortnite thing will probably work with that audience and
<v Speaker 2>all that stuff, but you're right, like it feels like
<v Speaker 2>some of that money could have been spread around a
<v Speaker 2>little bit or some equivalent investments. Obviously, it's a huge
<v Speaker 2>investment into Epics, so it wasn't gonna be that big,
<v Speaker 2>but you know, you're right, it feels like, now who knows,
<v Speaker 2>it feels like they are like going down that path
<v Speaker 2>of working with Capcom in a real way and that
<v Speaker 2>they have been, and who knows, maybe that turns into
<v Speaker 2>something even bigger that does have a Capcom and Disney.
<v Speaker 1>Partner and up in more ways going.
<v Speaker 4>Forward, Like I know that there is a Blade game
<v Speaker 4>in development, but maybe like can you imagine a Blade
<v Speaker 4>game with Ari Engine? Would would be something?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, listen, that gets me excited. Absolutely.
<v Speaker 2>That does remind me I didn't I meant to include
<v Speaker 2>it here. I read it right before we were about
<v Speaker 2>to go live, Amy Hinniggs. Let's see Captain America and
<v Speaker 2>Black Panther game is going to be published by play On.
<v Speaker 1>So play On is was.
<v Speaker 2>Formerly it's an Embracer Group company, but sky Dance Interactive
<v Speaker 2>is like developing the game with Ammy Hinnig in charge,
<v Speaker 2>and now it has a publisher in play On.
<v Speaker 1>Just how does that make you feel?
<v Speaker 2>Because I'm like, oh, that just kind of hearing play
<v Speaker 2>on these days, it sounds a little bit low rent
<v Speaker 2>in some ways.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know. Yeah, you get that sense as well.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah I don't like saying it got debt stink on
<v Speaker 4>it grub, but yeah.
<v Speaker 3>It I don't like that.
<v Speaker 4>It immediately gives me like an aversion to the suddenly
<v Speaker 4>gives me an aversion to the game rather than my
<v Speaker 4>initial excitement for it.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly, and that's uh.
<v Speaker 2>Let's see when we need the name of the game here,
<v Speaker 2>it is Marvel Well nineteen forty three Rise of Hydra.
<v Speaker 1>I'll just read from a VGC hero quick yeap.
<v Speaker 2>The publisher formerly known as Coke Media, has entered into
<v Speaker 2>a worldwide publishing partnership with the games developer Skydance Games.
<v Speaker 2>Marvel nineteen forty three Rise of Hydro was revealed during
<v Speaker 2>an Unreal Engine showcase at a GDC in March and
<v Speaker 2>stars Drew Mowerlin as Captain America and Carrie Payton as
<v Speaker 2>Black Panther, with a release set for some time in
<v Speaker 2>twenty twenty five. So the game's coming in hot, like
<v Speaker 2>coming out next year. We're you know, baby, Yeah, we're
<v Speaker 2>in July right now. So this game's coming out in
<v Speaker 2>the next eighteen months. Now, as a publisher, does that
<v Speaker 2>like like set a certain level of expectation for you
<v Speaker 2>for this game, because I'm like, didn't have a publisher.
<v Speaker 1>What's the hell's going on here?
<v Speaker 2>So this is a little bit of how Disney and
<v Speaker 2>Marvel and Star Wars and all those things under that
<v Speaker 2>umbrella kind of work these days where Disney's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>we know, we need to be more into video games.
<v Speaker 2>We're not super into pain for video game. So that
<v Speaker 2>money went to Epic. Right, you have an idea, and
<v Speaker 2>you have a way of funding it, getting it, getting
<v Speaker 2>it made and finding a publisher and all that stuff,
<v Speaker 2>you can do it. Here's some ideas. At least that
<v Speaker 2>seems to be the case in some some instances. Maybe
<v Speaker 2>it's not across the board, but I think we saw
<v Speaker 2>that with the Kotor remake and and the what's the
<v Speaker 2>French guy that does those walking simulators that's making a
<v Speaker 2>high republic game. I can't remember the name of it,
<v Speaker 2>Star Wars Eclipse. Is it Eclipse? Yeah, something like that.
<v Speaker 2>Either way, it's like that that had a similar situation
<v Speaker 2>where it's like, you know, dis is like, yeah, you
<v Speaker 2>can use the IP, but we're not really super going
<v Speaker 2>to be funding this thing. So the fact that this
<v Speaker 2>game is eighteen months out at the most and it's
<v Speaker 2>just not getting a publisher, does that set a certain
<v Speaker 2>level of expectation for you.
<v Speaker 3>Ah.
<v Speaker 4>I don't want to say that it rings the alarms grub,
<v Speaker 4>but it's it's it's like the button is hovering over
<v Speaker 4>it right at this point. And I know that they
<v Speaker 4>had a presentation where they showed up that that cinematic trailer.
<v Speaker 4>I don't remember any actual gameplay from that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think they were kind of just setting the
<v Speaker 1>tone with that thang a little bit.
<v Speaker 4>Yes, now I'm even more curious to see any gameplay.
<v Speaker 4>And maybe there was a specific reason that they had
<v Speaker 4>only put out that cinematic trailer versus incorporating.
<v Speaker 3>Any type of gameplay to it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>Maybe Now I am a little bit worried about the game,
<v Speaker 4>but hopeful nonetheless.
<v Speaker 1>Right, and there's a look at the trailer.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, it looks big and expensive, and I bet
<v Speaker 2>it's going to be in a lot of ways. But
<v Speaker 2>if it comes out and it is pared down in
<v Speaker 2>some aspects because they don't want to or they were
<v Speaker 2>trying to save money and put it where it really matters,
<v Speaker 2>I think they could still make a very good game.
<v Speaker 2>That's an emphasis on these characters in the story, and
<v Speaker 2>I think that'll be just fine, you know, as long
<v Speaker 2>as they can pull what they're going for off.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think the you be successful as a Marvel
<v Speaker 4>game if you were not trying to completely Playkate to
<v Speaker 4>the MCU audience, right, and this feels like it can
<v Speaker 4>exist outside of that exactly. Like I think that's why
<v Speaker 4>the Spider Man games work so well, on top of
<v Speaker 4>them being made by Insomniac. But like you know, everyone
<v Speaker 4>knows that I am a big, big fan of the
<v Speaker 4>Guardians of the Galaxy game that came out a couple
<v Speaker 4>of years ago, and that wasn't necessarily trying to hamphist
<v Speaker 4>everything that the MCU Guardians had shown to to like
<v Speaker 4>the general audience.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, exactly. All right, let's take a quick break.
<v Speaker 2>When we get back, plenty more headlines to get into,
<v Speaker 2>including the death of the Xbox three sixty marketplace right
<v Speaker 2>after this.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we.
<v Speaker 2>Are back, and as promised, there's just one day left
<v Speaker 2>before the Xbox three sixty marketplaces closes. And this story
<v Speaker 2>was written yesterday, so honestly, I think this thing might
<v Speaker 2>be done by now. By the time you're hearing this,
<v Speaker 2>the Xbox three sixty marketplace could be closed.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Andy Robinson of VGC.
<v Speaker 2>Xbox three sixty owners had one day left to purchase
<v Speaker 2>games from the console's online marketplace, as previously announced, After
<v Speaker 2>July twenty ninth, it will no longer be possible to
<v Speaker 2>buy any more games or DLC from the Xbox three
<v Speaker 2>sixty marketplace. Users will still be able to re download
<v Speaker 2>their previous purchases for the foreseeable future. According to Microsoft,
<v Speaker 2>many digital Xbox three sixty games have been discounted ahead
<v Speaker 2>of the closure, and you can view them all and
<v Speaker 2>they have a link over there on VGC if you
<v Speaker 2>want to track that down in case the store is
<v Speaker 2>still open but people are saying in chat.
<v Speaker 1>They think it's closed.
<v Speaker 2>There are currently nearly five hundred games in the Games
<v Speaker 2>on Demand section of the Xbox three sixty store. This
<v Speaker 2>section deals with games which also have physical releases. While
<v Speaker 2>these will all disappear when the Xbox three sixty store closes,
<v Speaker 2>some of them will still be available to purchase digitally
<v Speaker 2>on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S stores
<v Speaker 2>if they're part of Xbox's backward compatible Games library. After
<v Speaker 2>it was announced that the store would be closing, Microsoft's
<v Speaker 2>head of gaming said he'd like to find a way
<v Speaker 2>to ensure that hundreds of titles aren't lost when the
<v Speaker 2>Xbox three sixties Digital Store closes, because there are quite
<v Speaker 2>a few digital only games that haven't been released anywhere
<v Speaker 2>else that you won't be able to find again. Now
<v Speaker 2>all that said, you can always hack an Xbox three sixty.
<v Speaker 2>You know, it's it's over. They're not going to sell
<v Speaker 2>it to you anymore. Go hack your Xbox three sixty.
<v Speaker 2>It's time. Once the store closes like that, it's like
<v Speaker 2>officially them saying, we're not going to sell this to
<v Speaker 2>you anymore.
<v Speaker 1>This is not a going concern.
<v Speaker 2>And Xbox three sixty is a good piece of hardware
<v Speaker 2>except for when it red rings, And yeah, you can
<v Speaker 2>still find these ways to find these games that way,
<v Speaker 2>but yeah, it's a bummer. It's just always sad to
<v Speaker 2>see these things close close down. Part of me when
<v Speaker 2>I'm buying these games digitally on the Xbox three sixty,
<v Speaker 2>subconsciously I was thinking, jan oh, this is forever, you know.
<v Speaker 2>And I don't know why I felt that way. I
<v Speaker 2>knew intellectually that was not the case that the store
<v Speaker 2>would last last forever, but in the time, it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this is the future and it's just going to be
<v Speaker 2>this way going forward, and it's not. And that's a
<v Speaker 2>little bit sad.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it I think I had the same mentality, and
<v Speaker 4>for me, I always felt like the the Xbox three
<v Speaker 4>sixty marketplace was just two three years ago, when in
<v Speaker 4>reality it was quite a while ago now, grub And Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>I just have so many fun memories of discovering games
<v Speaker 4>for the first time, and then that that marketplace just
<v Speaker 4>kind of get.
<v Speaker 3>A little nostalgic.
<v Speaker 1>Grub.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, I'm thinking of og Trials. I'm thinking of Explosion
<v Speaker 4>Man and how everybody loves donuts. Yeah, And I really
<v Speaker 4>really hope and I know that, you know, there are
<v Speaker 4>other means to acquire some of these games now, but
<v Speaker 4>I do hope that the games that never got a
<v Speaker 4>physical release are going to be preserved somehow. And I
<v Speaker 4>feel like digital preservation is going to is only going
<v Speaker 4>to get more challenging once we, uh, you know, get
<v Speaker 4>up to this generation where there are so many titles
<v Speaker 4>coming out constantly, so many h games, Grub, How are
<v Speaker 4>we gonna also preserve those?
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. We gotta do something now. We got
<v Speaker 2>to get somebody on the case. Yeah, I I there
<v Speaker 2>are people in chatter now just naming games. Dan Reichertz
<v Speaker 2>is Hexic Hexic HD and Misisplosion Man. I want to
<v Speaker 2>play that Yaris game, the Toyota Yaris game. That's always fun.
<v Speaker 1>Uh yeah.
<v Speaker 2>There are a lot of games on there that are
<v Speaker 2>some of my favorites, and those are like Pac Man
<v Speaker 2>Championship Edition DX and Geometry Wars two and all that stuff,
<v Speaker 2>These games that just were leaderboard chasing very much my
<v Speaker 2>thing obviously, and uh yeah, I would play hours and
<v Speaker 2>hours and hours of those games and that it really
<v Speaker 2>just made the Xbox Xbox three sixty feel more alive
<v Speaker 2>and dynamic than any console before it in a lot
<v Speaker 2>of ways. And a lot of that just comes down
<v Speaker 2>to these games. Many of the games that are going
<v Speaker 2>to be lost.
<v Speaker 1>Now, and that's that's a shame.
<v Speaker 2>Borderlands Boss teases what's next. I'm confident our fans will
<v Speaker 2>be very, very happy, And that's the quote there in
<v Speaker 2>the headline from Andy Robinson at VGC. Gearbox CEO Randy
<v Speaker 2>Pitchford has seemingly teased the next Borderlands game, stating that
<v Speaker 2>the studio is working on big things and that an
<v Speaker 2>announcement would come soon. Publisher two K confirmed that the
<v Speaker 2>next Borderlands game is in active development at Gearbox earlier
<v Speaker 2>this year, after it announced it had acquired Gearbox Entertainment
<v Speaker 2>from Embracer Group for four hundred and sixty million dollars.
<v Speaker 2>Speaking to games Radar, Pittford suggested that fans won't have
<v Speaker 2>to wait long for more information about it. I haven't
<v Speaker 2>been perfect at hiding the fact that we're working on
<v Speaker 2>many things and that we're working on big things, the
<v Speaker 2>co founder said. I'm confident that our fans are going
<v Speaker 2>to be very, very happy with the next video game
<v Speaker 2>project when we are ready to announce it. And I
<v Speaker 2>will tell you that we're not going to be making
<v Speaker 2>people wait for a long time before we announce it.
<v Speaker 2>Pittford teas that an announcement about the next Borderlands movie
<v Speaker 2>could also come before the end of the year.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see maybe sooner. That's pretty confident. Let you know, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>let's let's talk about the game first real quick.
<v Speaker 3>Yah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, we knew this was coming, but boy, they seem
<v Speaker 2>to be suggesting an announcement could be imminent. Do you
<v Speaker 2>think this is something that happens like games com Opening
<v Speaker 2>Night Live. I guess there's no reason that couldn't.
<v Speaker 3>God, I didn't even think of that. I mean, if
<v Speaker 3>not a games comm then Game Awards at the end
<v Speaker 3>of the year, you could definitely have like a big
<v Speaker 3>presence there.
<v Speaker 2>You know, And Lexi says packs they do. They always
<v Speaker 2>have a thing a thing at PAS. I remember one
<v Speaker 2>year he had a big, long, like reveal thing at
<v Speaker 2>PAX and he like clearly hired some like Instagram models
<v Speaker 2>to hang out with him and they did magic at
<v Speaker 2>them and I was pretty uncomfortable.
<v Speaker 1>I remember that. So he might do that again, and
<v Speaker 1>he could announce the game there. Who knows? Yeah, yeah, okay, I.
<v Speaker 4>Mean, hey, the Borderlands audience is a very spirited and
<v Speaker 4>passionate audience for those games doing it at a convention
<v Speaker 4>like packs, where you are directly connecting to the gaming audiences. Sure, sure, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>maybe maybe just you know, we don't need the Instagram models.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, maybe maybe leave them alone.
<v Speaker 3>Oh he's gonna get TikTok influence.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yes, uh whoever's on his USB drive these days?
<v Speaker 4>Man, I want to see Randy Pittsford do the Charlie
<v Speaker 4>XCX Apple dance. Someone out there, do it? Please get
<v Speaker 4>that done.
<v Speaker 2>What I mostly know about Charlie XCX is that she
<v Speaker 2>did the theme song for Super Nintendo World when they
<v Speaker 2>announced it. Is that that Mario Remix song. And my
<v Speaker 2>kids listen to that probably at two hundred times, so.
<v Speaker 3>It's Brat summer. Grub Yep, it's that.
<v Speaker 2>That also that, and I was like, I'm ninety percent
<v Speaker 2>sure this is Brat summer and not Brought summer. But
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to be having a broad summer over here,
<v Speaker 2>so stand back everybody. Uh yeah, I feel like I
<v Speaker 2>probably enjoy Brad as well. Charlie XCX seems like a
<v Speaker 2>lot of fun.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Then a movie another movie before announced before the end
<v Speaker 2>of the year. We'll see maybe sooner, he says. I've
<v Speaker 2>started seeing commercials on TV because I'm watching the Olympics,
<v Speaker 2>and many of those commercials are for a movie called
<v Speaker 2>Borderlands from the Gearbox Corporation under two k Now, I.
<v Speaker 1>Don't know, it looks like a movie, do you know
<v Speaker 1>what I mean?
<v Speaker 2>Like it just it just looks like someone took something
<v Speaker 2>and made a movie out of it. And to me,
<v Speaker 2>that's like, Okay, it doesn't look it's gonna be the
<v Speaker 2>worst thing. Doesn't look like it's gonna be great, far
<v Speaker 2>from it, but uh who, I don't know what the
<v Speaker 2>final quality will be. But based on like the excitement
<v Speaker 2>I get out of coming out of those commercials, which
<v Speaker 2>is not a lot.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if they necessarily need to make another
<v Speaker 1>one of these, what do you? Yeah?
<v Speaker 4>I I also question about like the production of making
<v Speaker 4>another movie, because they had shot the Upcome movie so
<v Speaker 4>long ago and then had to go in for reshoots,
<v Speaker 4>and it was in production hell for so long that
<v Speaker 4>I imagine spinning the gears up to get a sequel or
<v Speaker 4>an offshoot going would be very challenging at this point, right.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, I suppose the good news would be like
<v Speaker 2>if they did reshoots, they probably had the writers right
<v Speaker 2>there with them.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe those writers will want to work on a sequel.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, hey, you get paid, But I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I'll be curious to see if that if that does
<v Speaker 2>pan out, A lot of it's going to depend on
<v Speaker 2>that first weekend, right, we see that people are ready
<v Speaker 2>to go back to the movies for things.
<v Speaker 1>They care about. There are a lot of people care
<v Speaker 1>about Borderlands.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not expecting two hundred million dollars opening weekend like
<v Speaker 2>what Wolverine and Deadpool did, but nothing's going to do that.
<v Speaker 1>I'm also maybe not expecting.
<v Speaker 2>Like fifty million, forty million dollars like that. That feels
<v Speaker 2>like the high end of what this movie can do.
<v Speaker 2>And I just it doesn't feel like that's in the cards.
<v Speaker 4>It's it's so interesting to to speculate how that movie
<v Speaker 4>is gonna gonna hit with folk because there are so
<v Speaker 4>many stars attached to it. Yeah, that that has to
<v Speaker 4>carry it over for someone to say, like, oh, Kate
<v Speaker 4>Blanchet's in a new movie. Oh, Jamie Lee Curtis, like
<v Speaker 4>Kevin Hart is a giant comedian despite me not enjoying
<v Speaker 4>Kevin Hart lately. Yep, And like that does that translate
<v Speaker 4>to the box office? And like does the Borderlands gaming audience?
<v Speaker 3>Does that? Does there passion for Borderlands translate to the
<v Speaker 3>box office? We'll see, we'll see.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 2>I could say that I want to see it for
<v Speaker 2>my own needs and purposes, but those are not because
<v Speaker 2>I'm excited necessarily about what I've been seeing from it.
<v Speaker 3>All.
<v Speaker 2>Right, over eight minutes of Astrobat gameplay appears online. This
<v Speaker 2>is from Andy Robinson at VGC. I mean, let me
<v Speaker 2>just get this here so people can take a look
<v Speaker 2>at it.
<v Speaker 1>Here we go.
<v Speaker 2>Play and musichs I think that was gonna through Here
<v Speaker 2>we go. Yeah, more than eight minutes of offscreen Astrobot
<v Speaker 2>gameplay has been published, showing multiple levels of the PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>five platform or inaction. The footage was captured by a
<v Speaker 2>nine veg from China Joy, which is currently being held
<v Speaker 2>in Shanghai, mostly including this, this is this. I'm pretty
<v Speaker 2>sure this is the stuff we played at a summer
<v Speaker 2>game fest. People are playing this everywhere though. Now this
<v Speaker 2>thing is at China Joy. It's it was at EVO.
<v Speaker 2>Sean played it there, so I think that they're like,
<v Speaker 2>we need people need to play this to see how
<v Speaker 2>fucking good it is. Like we did a good job
<v Speaker 2>and people need to play it. I'm glad that they're
<v Speaker 2>out there just showing this thing off. And boy god,
<v Speaker 2>I just want this game so bad.
<v Speaker 4>I was hoping, for whatever reason, this would be a
<v Speaker 4>comic Con. Yeah right, not in a little corner kiosk.
<v Speaker 3>But no it was not.
<v Speaker 1>It's a EVO but not comic Con. Yeah that's weird.
<v Speaker 3>Come on, Sonya, get it together over there.
<v Speaker 4>But I saw not the full eight minute video, but
<v Speaker 4>maybe like a smaller cut and grub I am really decided.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, I am pretty ecstatic over here for just thinking, like, god,
<v Speaker 2>we are what we're in July, this thing's out in
<v Speaker 2>a month?
<v Speaker 1>Is this thing out in less than a month? That's okay?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's fa Like when I'm like, I had not
<v Speaker 2>been thinking about it in those terms, and now it's holy.
<v Speaker 1>Crap, we're gonna be getting this thing in no time.
<v Speaker 1>And you know what that does. Springing up to the
<v Speaker 1>other people are saying, stop showing. You don't want to
<v Speaker 1>be spoiled. I'll telling you what you can't.
<v Speaker 2>You kind of can't spoil it because playing it is
<v Speaker 2>so much better than just watching it.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, this is some good stuff. But I will
<v Speaker 1>stop showing because I got another thing here. Let's do that.
<v Speaker 1>Look at that fucking bad boy right there.
<v Speaker 2>Astrobot themed Dual Sense wireless controller has been announced. This
<v Speaker 2>is from sal Ramano at Gamatsu. Sony Interactive Entertainment has
<v Speaker 2>announced the Dual Sense Wireless Controller Astrobot Limited Edition. It
<v Speaker 2>will launch in limited quality, qualities quantities excuse me, alongside
<v Speaker 2>the Astrobot game on September six.
<v Speaker 1>When is wait? When is astro bought out.
<v Speaker 3>Soon?
<v Speaker 1>I thought it was the twenty six? Is the game
<v Speaker 1>out on the sixth? No, that's not right.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, okay, so you could pre order this thing number
<v Speaker 2>six Yeah, oh September sixth, that's right. So yeah, we're
<v Speaker 2>about a month out, okay, okay, so yes, that is
<v Speaker 2>a month before the game comes out. It will be
<v Speaker 2>eighty dollars. Pre Orders will open on PlayStation yeah, September sixth.
<v Speaker 2>There we go PlayStation Direct and selector retailers on August
<v Speaker 2>ninth at seven am Pacific time. So that's the data
<v Speaker 2>I was looking at. So August ninth is when you
<v Speaker 2>could start pre ordering it. Then this thing will arrive
<v Speaker 2>in plenty of time for you to be playing the game.
<v Speaker 2>On September sixth. There we go. Yep, eighty dollars. I'm
<v Speaker 2>getting one. Jan I had this open. I was getting
<v Speaker 2>the story is ready. This morning the kids walk in,
<v Speaker 2>They're like, oh my god, we gotta get that, get
<v Speaker 2>it right now. I'm like, oh my god, you were
<v Speaker 2>asking for squid word last week.
<v Speaker 1>Now you want this. But yes, I'll get this because
<v Speaker 1>I really want it.
<v Speaker 3>Oh wait was last week? What the heck?
<v Speaker 2>It might have been two weeks ago. She's been asking
<v Speaker 2>for it pretty consistently for the last couple of weeks.
<v Speaker 2>She stopped in the last few days. But yes, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this thing is very cute for audio listeners. It looks
<v Speaker 2>like Astro from Astro's playroom with the color scheme the
<v Speaker 2>blue and the white, and then the trackpad has the
<v Speaker 2>sort of led LCD eyes, the little blue glowy eyes,
<v Speaker 2>and it just looks adorable.
<v Speaker 3>Boy, howdy grub if.
<v Speaker 4>What a better time for Sony to try and capitalize
<v Speaker 4>off of the astrobot hype. They should just make a
<v Speaker 4>VMU style controller.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I kind of wish that.
<v Speaker 2>I think there was a rumor early on before the
<v Speaker 2>PS four came out that this trackpad was going to
<v Speaker 2>be a screen. I think people just like must have
<v Speaker 2>seen it and like, is that a screen, and it
<v Speaker 2>would be things like alert you were using a used game,
<v Speaker 2>like I remember like that meme or whatever. But hey,
<v Speaker 2>that's not a bad idea. I like screens on shit.
<v Speaker 2>But turned this into green and let me like put
<v Speaker 2>like animated.
<v Speaker 1>Gifts on here so I can have Astro's eyes on
<v Speaker 1>my controller. That'd be great. I mean, obviously this.
<v Speaker 2>Is like I I wonder if this that those eyes
<v Speaker 2>are painted on, or if there are like lights underneath
<v Speaker 2>the pad. I bet it's just painted on, but that'd
<v Speaker 2>be cool if it was actually glowing.
<v Speaker 3>If it was glowing. That'd be great. You'd probably kill
<v Speaker 3>the dual sense battery.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, but that thing doesn't last long anyhow. Who
<v Speaker 1>gives a shit anymore?
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, yeah, astro So Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>We were just a little bit over.
<v Speaker 2>A month away, and I am very excited. Man the
<v Speaker 2>game when it comes out. They said it won't have
<v Speaker 2>that leaderboard chasing stuff right away, but they're going to
<v Speaker 2>add in an update.
<v Speaker 1>Fine.
<v Speaker 2>Fine, That just means I actually beat the game before,
<v Speaker 2>I'd get lost in that mode this time.
<v Speaker 1>That's good news for me.
<v Speaker 3>They're doing it for you, guys.
<v Speaker 1>I know, I deeply appreciate it. Thank you so much.
<v Speaker 2>Last couple of stories here, super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble
<v Speaker 2>received an update. This is from Liam Doolan at Nintendo
<v Speaker 2>Life mostly putting this in here. For this first one
<v Speaker 2>fixed an issue an adventure of all involving movements stopping
<v Speaker 2>every sixth frame. Additionally, the end game physics have been
<v Speaker 2>slightly adjusted. There was I've been enjoying this game. I
<v Speaker 2>like it, I've been recommending it, but I like Digital
<v Speaker 2>Foundry was like, hey, there's like this issue with the
<v Speaker 2>engine that is like every sixth frame, there's this little
<v Speaker 2>hiccup in the camera movement, especially, which is almost the
<v Speaker 2>entire game that like, that's how you control the game,
<v Speaker 2>and that's really annoying. Well, they did update update the
<v Speaker 2>game to fix it. I Tho'm just hey, let's call
<v Speaker 2>that out and say they actually did it. So this game,
<v Speaker 2>which has gone on sale a couple of times, is
<v Speaker 2>better now and fixed up, and I think still very
<v Speaker 2>much worth it.
<v Speaker 1>And I agree, Yes, fantastic.
<v Speaker 4>Those those mini games, those party games are are really
<v Speaker 4>really good that I could I could see a world
<v Speaker 4>where Sega, you know, kinda tries to do more monkey
<v Speaker 4>ball stuff, Like we live in a world post Ball
<v Speaker 4>guys world. I think that may be better. Super monkey
<v Speaker 4>Ball be a better IP to adapt into a game
<v Speaker 4>like that versus that mobile Sonic Party Fall Guys style game.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I think that's not a bad idea for them to
<v Speaker 2>like just take this ip and and just branch it
<v Speaker 2>out a little bit and do some fun stuff like that.
<v Speaker 3>That would be the there you Go, Divorced Cougar and
<v Speaker 3>chat Ball guys.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I would love it. That would roll. I went.
<v Speaker 2>They fixed an issue and adventure where in which the
<v Speaker 2>stage clear times differed even when making the exact same
<v Speaker 2>controller inputs. So huh okay, so there's no variability in
<v Speaker 2>the world an where it's all deterministic. But also how
<v Speaker 2>I wonder if people discovered that if it was like
<v Speaker 2>they were using TAZ like a tool assisted controller or something.
<v Speaker 2>All right, last one, there's a trailer for Sega's live
<v Speaker 2>action Like a Dragon series. This is from VGC, but
<v Speaker 2>I'll bring it up here so we can see it
<v Speaker 2>for people watching the video. Sega in Prime Video have
<v Speaker 2>released the first trailer for the live action Like a
<v Speaker 2>Dragon series, titled Like Dagon Yakuza. An official synopsis says
<v Speaker 2>the series depicts the lives of fierce yet passionate gangsters
<v Speaker 2>and people living in a huge entertainment district Kamao Show,
<v Speaker 2>a fictional district modeled after the violent Shinjuk Awards Kabu
<v Speaker 2>kabook Show Kaboo Show that acts as the backdrop of
<v Speaker 2>the gameplay. The blurb continues, Like a Dragon Yakuza showcases
<v Speaker 2>modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters,
<v Speaker 2>such as the legendary Cosma cure you that games in
<v Speaker 2>the past have not been able to explore.
<v Speaker 1>I don't listen.
<v Speaker 2>Private videos made some good video game shows recently. There's
<v Speaker 2>no reason this can't be good. Uh yeah, it looks fine,
<v Speaker 2>It looks looks like it could be fun. I don't
<v Speaker 2>know if it's going to be great. Where do you
<v Speaker 2>think this is getting? Like, you know, when they kind
<v Speaker 2>of make anime into a live action show and that's
<v Speaker 2>like on one side of the spectrum for the most part,
<v Speaker 2>and then you know, we got like Fallout, which I
<v Speaker 2>think is on like the the excellent side of the spectrum.
<v Speaker 2>Where do you think this is going to end up?
<v Speaker 3>They're okay.
<v Speaker 4>We actually interviewed the two leads of the show at
<v Speaker 4>Comicon and they I don't know if that interviews out
<v Speaker 4>if I can talk about it. But there was an
<v Speaker 4>interesting wrinkle that the director is doing for the show too,
<v Speaker 4>because he knows of the unique characters that are constantly
<v Speaker 4>going on around Comarade show. They do want to do
<v Speaker 4>like a semi fresh take on the characters, but they
<v Speaker 4>have to know going into it that the like a
<v Speaker 4>dragon franchise, and the franchise they have their definition of
<v Speaker 4>how cosmic Kuriu is supposed to be. So yeah, I
<v Speaker 4>hope they can pull it off. Also, the two leads
<v Speaker 4>in the show that came to the studio and some
<v Speaker 4>fellas and some dudes. That is important to get that right. Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>they got a they're smoldering in this trailer. There's a
<v Speaker 4>lot of smoldering going on, which I appreciate. Tell you what,
<v Speaker 4>I there's maybe one shot of Camaroade show in here
<v Speaker 4>that that really feels like it shows off the vibe
<v Speaker 4>of the streets, and to me, that feels like they
<v Speaker 4>don't have a massive budget for this show.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think that's too surprising. Yeah, that just that
<v Speaker 2>flies by. I let's see here, what was it the
<v Speaker 2>il'm a button that goes back one frame? Yeah, this
<v Speaker 2>it looks kind of cheap in this shot right here.
<v Speaker 2>So I hope, I hope that they're able to.
<v Speaker 1>Like you know, that happens. Sometimes.
<v Speaker 2>There's a lot of stuff that a lot of TV,
<v Speaker 2>a lot of movies that are made on a budget.
<v Speaker 2>And how you overcome that is with good writing, great acting,
<v Speaker 2>and a certain sort of energy and confidence that makes
<v Speaker 2>it feel like, well, who cares. I like the story
<v Speaker 2>and characters so much that I'm not really looking for
<v Speaker 2>the airs. I am just experiencing these things, and I think.
<v Speaker 1>They could still pull that off. But yeah, we'll see.
<v Speaker 4>It does appear to be that it's made by a
<v Speaker 4>Japanese company. The show is going to be in Japanese,
<v Speaker 4>so it's break from that, which you will ye, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>it's it's interesting. I will say. I think I'm pretty
<v Speaker 4>sure I'm gonna say this, so no one, no one
<v Speaker 4>be mad at me if I spoil something. But there
<v Speaker 4>was a miscommunication that happened, and for whatever reason, the
<v Speaker 4>two leads of this show, when we had them into
<v Speaker 4>the studio, someone had told them that we were a
<v Speaker 4>French company. Oh and I guess for them, it didn't
<v Speaker 4>help that Tam and Lucy were the two interviewing them,
<v Speaker 4>and because of their you know, English accents, I think
<v Speaker 4>they were further a little bit confused. So after the
<v Speaker 4>interview wrapped, one of the gentlemen, graciously, after saying thank you, said,
<v Speaker 4>Mercy Boku.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, that rules, it's fantastic.
<v Speaker 4>We thought it was just being a little bit chky,
<v Speaker 4>but then we figured out like, oh that's why he said.
<v Speaker 2>Oh that's fantastic, that's really great. Uh fandom sounds very French,
<v Speaker 2>I think, So yeah, there you go. All right, that
<v Speaker 2>does it for the news headlines.
<v Speaker 1>Let me get this back over there.
<v Speaker 2>I got a pull question that I will bring up
<v Speaker 2>while I'm getting that set up.
<v Speaker 1>Jan why don't we tell people we got going on.
<v Speaker 4>If we know, I'm gonna assume it's a regular programming
<v Speaker 4>as huge it's we're still in kind of a lull
<v Speaker 4>in terms of game releases.
<v Speaker 2>That's right, a little bit. It's gonna start. Madden's almost here,
<v Speaker 2>so we're almost gonna be back to normal. But yes,
<v Speaker 2>a little bit of a loll still.
<v Speaker 4>It is definitely gonna ramp up slowly. But I know
<v Speaker 4>now is the time to play catch up folks. Folks
<v Speaker 4>if if you haven't, I don't know, if you you
<v Speaker 4>haven't caught up in the big titles from early in
<v Speaker 4>this year, maybe it's time to circle back. I did
<v Speaker 4>have Loreli and the Laser Eyes put back on on
<v Speaker 4>my radar over Comic Con, and.
<v Speaker 3>It's like, oh damn it, I should go back to that. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>We also we should do something with the football game.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I've got an idea.
<v Speaker 1>I just got to find the time for it. So
<v Speaker 1>uh yeah, well we'll make it happen. That would be great.
<v Speaker 2>I wanted to spend more time playing stuff like Laura
<v Speaker 2>lying the laser eye this weekend. But I spent almost
<v Speaker 2>the entirety in my pantry.
<v Speaker 1>We got moths in the pantry.
<v Speaker 2>Jan and I had to hold up and clean it
<v Speaker 2>out and we got rid of them.
<v Speaker 1>It's fine now. It was it was like on the
<v Speaker 1>verge of being a real bad infestation.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 2>But we have to get tupperware, and we put everything
<v Speaker 2>in tupperware now, and just to make sure it doesn't
<v Speaker 2>happen a gag. So everything we read is like it'll
<v Speaker 2>happen again unless you start, unless you actually like seal
<v Speaker 2>up your dry goods. I'm like, oh so yeah, that
<v Speaker 2>was That was the whole weekend.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And I got a little bit of time here and there.
<v Speaker 2>That's why I am not in the top one in
<v Speaker 2>every challenge and Intendal World Championships Ayes Edition.
<v Speaker 4>Every time I see you three talking about that game
<v Speaker 4>in our little discord, I just like I get the
<v Speaker 4>itch to like, oh, maybe I can play it, And
<v Speaker 4>then I see the times I'm like, no, I'm just
<v Speaker 4>gonna stay away.
<v Speaker 2>My times are scared away, Dan and Mike. So it
<v Speaker 2>can happen to anybody, absolutely.
<v Speaker 1>All right.
<v Speaker 2>Poll question from last week, Let's see here have you
<v Speaker 2>ever played a legacy of Kine slash soul Reefer game,
<v Speaker 2>forty said yes, fifty one percent said no. That's a
<v Speaker 2>whoa pretty huge response there. Now, maybe there's some self
<v Speaker 2>selection bias for this poll in the first place. Maybe
<v Speaker 2>the people that see soul Reever just honed it on
<v Speaker 2>it and had to respond, But regardless, that is a
<v Speaker 2>really big number, and I think I think it explains
<v Speaker 2>why you bring back Soul Reaver in a remaster collection.
<v Speaker 2>That is pretty cool. That's pretty close there. Yeah, the
<v Speaker 2>no makes me upset though.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Yeah, well, but I mean now they're gonna get
<v Speaker 1>a chance to play it.
<v Speaker 4>I mean I say that, and I don't think I've
<v Speaker 4>actually played any of them.
<v Speaker 3>I appreciate the vibe.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I played a little bit of Soul Reaver on
<v Speaker 2>Dreamcast a year or two ago and I just couldn't
<v Speaker 2>make it work for me. So I'm hoping the remaster
<v Speaker 2>is the solution to that. So I could see whatever
<v Speaker 2>one's into. But yeah, this is this is pretty cool
<v Speaker 2>that that that many people have played it, and I
<v Speaker 2>think I think it seems like the franchise could have
<v Speaker 2>a big bounce back if.
<v Speaker 1>The remaster is handled appropriately.
<v Speaker 2>Next poll question is are you going to see the
<v Speaker 2>Borderlands movie?
<v Speaker 1>Did we do this one?
<v Speaker 3>All?
<v Speaker 4>Right?
<v Speaker 1>I can't. I can't remem. I don't think we did,
<v Speaker 1>but I can't. I'm pretty sure.
<v Speaker 4>But you know this is an updated version of it. Yeah, right,
<v Speaker 4>A couple week's devil and.
<v Speaker 1>You're right, good point. Are you going to see the
<v Speaker 1>Borderlands movie? Yes? Or no?
<v Speaker 2>Now that you guys have started seeing trailers and commercials,
<v Speaker 2>kind of interested to see how you are gauging things
<v Speaker 2>now and it is the summer, maybe people are in
<v Speaker 2>a movie mood.
<v Speaker 4>Yeahh It definitely seems like that looking at like the
<v Speaker 4>box office numbers and you know, being at like an
<v Speaker 4>entertainment centered convention like San Diego Comic Con like that
<v Speaker 4>is the number one conversation I'd over here all the time,
<v Speaker 4>like whether it was like you're hearing, yeah, go ahead,
<v Speaker 4>people are excited. Yeah, he's excited to be going back
<v Speaker 4>to the movies. Uh. And you know, it seems like
<v Speaker 4>Twisters also was a big hit. Glenn Powell is saving
<v Speaker 4>the superstar Man.
<v Speaker 2>He really is, absolutely and uh I remember seeing him
<v Speaker 2>and everybody wants some and being.
<v Speaker 1>Like this guy's a star. I like this guy a
<v Speaker 1>lot and I was a star.
<v Speaker 2>This guy's a star, and I did jazz hands and
<v Speaker 2>I was alone and I felt very cool. Uh all right,
<v Speaker 2>so are you going to see the Borderlands movie? That
<v Speaker 2>poll will be up on YouTube dot com slash at
<v Speaker 2>giant Bomb. If you go to the community tab, that's
<v Speaker 2>where you can find that. If you go to the
<v Speaker 2>live tab, you could find most of our stuff. But
<v Speaker 2>if you just hit that home button as well, Sewan
<v Speaker 2>Turboshan's done a pretty good job of organizing things there
<v Speaker 2>for you as well. You can also get more of
<v Speaker 2>us on giant bomb dot com. As Jen said, mostly
<v Speaker 2>a normal week, gonna have BombCast tomorrow. We will Blight
<v Speaker 2>Clubs should return this week. No red and we can't
<v Speaker 2>do that. Things might get a little hectic later this week.
<v Speaker 2>I got that Summer Slam happening. I got people coming
<v Speaker 2>into town.
<v Speaker 1>So we'll see.
<v Speaker 2>But we'll have some fun. We'll do some cool stuff. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>look out for it.
<v Speaker 3>Some potentially cool stuff happening soon as well.
<v Speaker 2>Excellence, very cool, All right, Janet Show, thank you so
<v Speaker 2>much for spinning today talking with me about video games. Man,
<v Speaker 2>I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>It's the only way for me to start a Thursday.
<v Speaker 1>Oh shit, And thank you everybody for watching and listening.
<v Speaker 1>You're the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have
<v Speaker 1>a good one, take care of yourself. Goodbye.
