All the rosters are down to fifty three active men. Jordan, not a day that's like a happy day around the NFL, but it does feel like, okay, that means the seasons here, that's a good thing.

It's a really hard day for others, and it really just starts everybody's journey, whether they make the team or not, really starts their professional journey off in different directions. And my favorite thing is always by the middle of the season we see some udfas breaking out right who've made these rosters, or we've seen guys who got cut and maybe get claimed by other teams off of waivers, or guys who find a new home on other teams. It turns out to be the right place. That's my favorite thing. But I'm an optimist, Greg, an eternal optimist.

Speaker 1: Yeah, and this is a tough day for you know, fans of a lot of these players, But like you said, it doesn't mean it's the end of the road. And I said, you know, every team's cut down to fifty three men. That's true. Some even one further. The Lions only have fifty guys on the roster, which is interesting. We still don't know, Like as we're taping this, we're still waiting for I believe it's five teams. These are the teams of shame right now, the Jets, the Chargers, the Chiefs, the Ravens, and the Buccaneers. We'll check if they release their fifty three men roster by the end of the show. We're taping this three hours after the deadline. You know, we kept delaying. The show's waiting for. You think you're better than us, Jets, Ravens, Chargers, Chiefs and Bucks. You sting get over yourself, Like, just release the names. The rest of the league's gonna find out. All right, let's get to it. Speaker 4: Spencer Ratlers our starting quarterback. Really really excited for him. He's done awesome job this offseason. So he's just been consistent. He's made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process, and you know, his ability to make plays to his arm and his feet have certainly shown up. And so I'm really really excited about Spencer. He's earned this opportunity. He's gonna do a tremendous job for us. At the same time, we're really really fortunate we got Tyler. Love the development that he's he's had over the course of this entire offseason.

Speaker 1: My biggest takeaway with this one, Jordan, is that kell is doing what he wants to do. I you know, you do wonder about this organization sometimes is it top down with Mickey Lewis making all the decisions or is it bottom up? And you know, Tyler Shuck is the guy the front office wants to play. I believe he will play the majority of games, but I do like that Ultimately, Kellen Moore decided Spencer Ratler looks a little more ready, was a little more prepared and better in the preseason and reportedly in the practices, and I'm going to go with him now because he earned the job and we'll see where it goes. The odds are obviously against Spencer Ratler keeping this job into say November, like October is probably the over under here.

Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I mean, who would be able to tell you who should be playing quarterback for you to start the season then a former quarterback who played the game at a very very high level in Kellen Moore. So I would hope that they're listening to him on this topic. And to your point, that's exactly what it looks like so far. And also, Spencer Ratler is not a rookie. I know he hasn't played a lot of football, but he's no longer a rookie. Tyler Shuck still has some some learning to do, obviously, has to learn how to prepare for these games in real time situations. And Greg, I think that while he looked pretty good when we were at Saints camp. Like good got better as the day went on. Spencer Rattler has been there. He knows that the ropes, he knows what he's supposed to do, and he looked fine. I mean, none of this is great, but you know, of the choices you had, this seemed like it would be inevitable, as was the j.

So it's going to be Rattler versus the Cardinals. Good luck in Week one going up against that Jonathan Gannon defense. Some interesting cuts there. Isaiah Foski, who we mentioned a lot of these cuts we kind of previewed in our Sunday shows with shook over the last handful of weeks. And then they came to Fruition, a guy that our friend Adam reported back in the day, Mickey Loomis put his thumb on the scale and said, no, do not take Brian Branch, who Jeff Ireland in the front office reportedly wanted to take.

You just on this, they see a lot of these names and you're like, oh, yeah, Like he's still in the league and it's just such a brutal road with the ninety man roster. The Saints also traded for a tackle a Seam Richards from the Cowboys for a late round pick in like twenty twenty eight. Let's get a big contract the trade. Hendrickson drama is over. That's happened since we last taped an NFL Daily episode. He got to raise this season to thirty million dollars. Any takeaways from this saga ending, Jordan.

It's just one of those things where, yes, there's a lot of drama in the middle, unnecessarily so it seemed like from the part of the organization and a lot of people going to the media to share their parts of the story, and the guarantees were an issue, and now there are questions about, you know, his long term future, his longer term future with the team. But he wanted to raise, he got the raise. He will be playing for the Bengals in twenty twenty five. After that, It's kind of a little bit of a gray area there, Greg.

It was like a very obvious this will be your last year with the Bengals, and they wanted to make it sound publicly like they wanted to keep him long term. Apparently they had an offer where the second year of the deal he got like a ten million dollar pay reduction.

Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you just look at it from an organizational perspective, if you take out the fact that it's the Bengals and they do have such a history of these types of situations unfolding the way that they have over the last couple of years with contracts, structurally, logically, it makes sense that you know, he had, I mean, he had an amazing year, you know, league leading year in production last season. At his age, there is no guarantee that that is going to repeat the worth of a long term extension. So yes, all of this makes sense. I think the issue is none of the other stuff had to happen. You know.

So I don't know, Yes, I think he's going to play right away, but I don't think it's going to be like this needle moving situation for him.

So the Raiders are one of the teams of shame that haven't put their transactions. But I would assume ad O'Connell's going on short term my r in, Kenny Pickett is there, and cam Miller.

Some mystery there what's going on? And Denico Autri to the pup list. So a lot of guys that they thought were going to have big parts of their roster this year. Three starters really and gone for various reasons, for various amounts of time.

Speaker 2: This is a team that's kind of showing us that they really want to throw the ball a lot right away, and that they might have to throw the ball a lot right away, and so, you know, I think they've got the receivers to do it, and they certainly have the quarterback. I just everything is sort of moot if they can't protect so, you know, mix in not being able to stabilize things, especially early on, that looms large early in this He isn't for them.

Why is he on that list? It they're setbacks. It's confusing. I mean it's like, you know, circle gets the square one plus one equals to you know, that's kind of what this is always trending this way, And I am very high on Shore Sanders as a long term player in this league, and certainly people will be watching breathlessly to see his every move and his development. Still, but if you draft a guy in the third round and you know you have Joe Flacco and you need to find a backup, that is your third round pick is probably going to be your backup, you know.

So it's like, all right, move faster than the other people do, even if you're moving a little fat, like, even if you look desperate, because you kind of are. You need this player, you know, behind Geno Smith on your on your roster, you need somebody there.

It seems like they're in the market. They made a trade with Seattle for a sort of a depth guy too. But this is this is not great. This is really tough. It is six to eight weeks for Storm Norton and the full season for Caleb McGarry. That's not great.

Marcus Apps, who's played a lot of football at safety, got caught. Braden Swinson, who was a fifth round pick a lot of people like, did not make the team.

I was expecting to see some fireworks with the Broncos. I thought maybe there'd be some trades, but there really wasn't. It was pretty quiet. Let's go to the of Bills because that's too quiet. Maxwell Harriston, their first round pick went to injured reserve. So the rules for that, if we haven't been clear on, that means they have to miss at least the first four weeks of the season. Each team has a certain amount of guys they can designate to return every year. I believe it's eight now, right, and you can do two at this time of year.

And then Malcolm Rodrigo Malcolm Rodriguez one Rodrigo from Hard Knocks a couple of years ago. So yeah, just a little shorthanded. It was just a reminder. Oh they even though it felt like they didn't get that hurt in the training camp, they are missing more players than most teams.

But they only kept three running backs and one of those three is Naja Harris, so to me, that is really notable that he did not end up on the NFI lists. And they're thin at the position, so they they cut Kamani Videl, which I was a little surprised about they cut Nahem Heines. Hassan Haskins right now is the third running back, so it shows a little bit of confidence there in Naja Harris.
