Hey everybody, It's Tuesday, March twenty sixth, twenty twenty four. Welcome
to the Giant BombCast, Episode eight hundred and thirty three, powered by ZXT.
I am your host, rolling on through some say I'm still somersaulting all
the way back here to the Bay Area. Jim Choa co captain of the
ship the Gambler, the Rambler. Jeff Grub, you need some money,
buddy needs some money? You good? Oh please please? Yes, I
you know, I sat on the floor of my hotel room eating a bunch
of cheese. It's because I was in dire straits and needed food. Uh.
And where we were in there was like nothing around us. Yeah,
there were like six restaurants in the in the place, but it's like they
all closed at reasonable times. And then I was like, which what was
that the Grub downloaded? Which which one do I need to Oh no fromtling,
you need to put parental controls on Jan's phone, and said, none
of you contact my partner. I swear to God. Uh, speaking about
wrestling, he's going to be heading to uh the City of Brotherly Love.
That's not it, right, The Rocky City, the City that Never sleeps
is that right, the one Rocky ran up the steps was was correct?
The Bell City, the Bell City, Dan soon to be mayor of the
Bell City, Dan record, Well you'll be my vice mayor, right of
course. It's the good Dan, this is going to be the two man
power trip. Yes, me new did you watch last night? It was
in say we were looking really good. It was so good, incredibly good.
Yes, speaking about so good, incredibly good. We have or our
our dear support, our dear backbone of this website, Sean. Sean McDowell.
Oh, I thought you were gonna go back a lar with that one
backbone? Alar. What the hell is with this Cyclops agenda that Jan's trying
to push on us all here? What is going on? I'm gonna suck
dude, Evan. I think he might be onto something. What do you
mean Cyclops agenda? Like a like Alps is good but in the day,
Thank you, Dan. I never hated Cyclops, but was like, you
know, he was the boy scouting, so I definitely put him in the
camp. No, he's the leader of the bunch like all these superhero Well,
yeah, sorry, he's got too much like morality your captain America's You're
Superman's they all suck. They're all Superman is the one I don't like out
of that buck Superman also, so we can allreat Superman's weird, I guess.
I guess Superman clos having morality makes him less like a cop, I
guess. And the arbiter, the arbiter of all morality on this website and
onto this podcast, Jet Beckler, that's right. Uh, the final judgment
always ruled by me about Cyclops vibe. Uh, yeah, I think he
falls more into a cop than he doesn't, so we must cancel Psycle.
You know the comics, he's pretty anti cop. Actually he's awesome. Ninety
seven. They like got his powers right now, so it's not like heat
vision it now it's like a kinetic blasting. He uses it to move around.
Because everyone who worked on that show played MVC two back in the day,
so they know how cool. Right. That's that's fine though, that's
a good thing they took from the right thing that actually made Cyclops cool.
But if you have like, you know, friggin' what is it now,
like sixty years, eighty years, I don't know how long X men have
been around. If you have that much time, the characters sucking and that's
like, oh, but for the past two weeks he's been pretty dope because
of James Marsden's poor interpretation of that role in that was bad. I thought
that was terrible. Also, you were like four when that came out.
What do you? What do you know? And I had taste back then.
I don't think anyone is more improperly associated with cops though than Punisher,
right, like done dirty by got a bad hand was due. Anytime I
see a truck driver around here with a Punisher logo and the thin blue line,
I'm like, you're missing the point. You are sing the points man?
Just it's long lost there laying there in bed at nights staring at the
ceiling. What the fuck did I do? Uh? Welcome everyone think,
thanks for joining us. So how's everyone feeling? You know? A portion
of us came just came back from pack to East. Yeah, and I
had a photo of you by my bedside I printed out and I left it
there. I'm like, right right next to then, yes, right next
to the Earth. It's very hard to bring an urn through TSA, it
turns out, I thought, especially if it's empty. I bet you could
bring an Urn through TSA right, okay, in and I bet that's fine.
Body ashes. Yet if you especially if you have TSA pre check,
they let you do whatever you want. Yeah, like, come on in,
I think I think you could how everyone every's good. I was feeling
feeling jested ish. No, I'm getting there though, I felt. I'm
like, right now, that's low man, I'm good. Yesterday was Yesterday
was more like a tough comeback day. But today I'm feeling good. I
think, you know, I think it was really great. I just want
to say that. I want to say that Uh Packs Boston Packs, East
Boston. You were cheers yeps, right cheers. Yeah, you you showed
us a good time. You celebrated a couple of birthdays, you put someone
UH into a new tax bracket, and you know you served me one of
the best lobster rolls I probably ever had my entire life. I fucked up.
I almost ordered it, but I was worried to have mayonnaise, and
so I got the fish and chips, which was good. Yeah, there's
no way to know how it would have been prepared. There was no way
to find out. But no, I'm gonna blame Manaate for this because I
was telling him I was afraid of the mayonnaise, and he said, like,
because it didn't say mayonnaise. It said it was assaulted caramel lobster role.
And that sounded amazing, and he was like, oh, well,
you know that's how they like adhere the lobster together typically is with a bunch
of mayos. It might not even be like mentioned in the things the way
choicely said to Mike Manati while you were sitting right next to him, no
mayonnaise, Yeah, you have no excuse pure Boston. They don't do that
there there. It's always butter. It's always butter a lot. Yeah,
I'll go back jan Well, we'll do a quick road trip over there from
Philly. Easy the geography, we could do that. Right. You went
back, right, you went and had another lobster role. I wanted to.
I wanted to, but I when I was checking out with my bag,
I got out of the hotel room when everyone else in the hotel room
got out, So there was a line of million people along trying to check
their bag, and I just went to the airports. I didn't want to
take care of my bag all day. Wow, I gave up on the
dream of getting that lobster role, and I apologize to you. No,
it's fine, we'll figure out another time. I'll send you, We'll send
you one. We'll just send you a lobster from somewhere, all right,
Like such a such a hearty and heartfelt thanks to everyone who showed up for
those panels. Holy mother God, was that fun? Right? That was
really special? And uh, great job everyone pulling those panels off. That
was you guys did a great job on the beast Cast panel as well.
That was really very fun. You want to see one of my favorite podcasts
of all time, and you guys really captured the metel. Oh yeah,
totally. Yeah. So you've never liked them up to me in that sort
of way that moment like I'm a big fan at some point later. But
we'll figure it out. I just wish we could do that in private,
you know, Yeah, sure, yeah, we could make that happen.
It's not like we haven't had many of those moments where that could have happened.
Huh. I also want to give a special shout out to Dan and
NICKI for organizing dan Doco dere because, holy smokes, you look at that
list of tasks uh, maybe we should put that out for folks that trying
to accomplish by themselves. But like a laundry list of various different games to
target and to try and do, and holy shit, I didn't know half
of them. There were a lot, and Nicky really killed it on the
fly because the entire plan was spelled out that like, Okay, it's very
important that everyone at home and in the crowd can see both gameplay feeds and
the checklist in the middle at all times, so they know what people are
going for. And like five minutes before we go live, we hear,
oh, we can just have one peet of the time. And so NICKI
with like five minutes prep is like cool as a cucumber. They're just like,
oh, yeah, I'll just I'll just you know, live switch it.
And it's like, I know, if I was in that position,
I would have been like, what the fuck? I can't take these like
monkey ranches thrown in the last second. NICKI just killed it. Those switching
between stuff, Nicky was amazing. Dan could have printed more paper out,
only three eight by tens for the the winners. Glossy paper is expensive.
Yeah, yeah, I get up there. Yeah I guess I have some
apologizing to do with how poorly I played the video game Super Mario six and
four. But he's a pretty obscure one. Yeah. I got pretty close
to winning though, Like, honestly, if I feel like I wouldn't got
that that death on that first run at Donkey Kong Junior, which was real
bullshit. Look, I think you would have been neck and neck with jan
You. I was really close in the end. Actually, in their combination
between backlar having no idea how to play Marios sixty four and down a giant
thing. The swing was there, but the real sepriting factory is the double
point thing that Mike got, where I was like, oh yeah, yeah,
yeah, literally twice as many points as anyone who could possibly get in
that right time. Yeah, that should have been better thought out, I
think, but also nerfit. Yeah, just like in terms of parody,
right, No, I like, it's crazy I had not played that and
didn't we talk about this, Danton, weren't you like, oh, have
you played a lot of sixty four? Someone asked me that and I was
like, I never owned a sixty four. I talked to you well,
because it was like I was like, maybe I should play in it.
I foresaw all of this. I'm like, maybe I should play in sixty
four. Everyone's like, no, it's only funny if you fight against Mike,
And I'm like, you're right, Oh, but it's gonna go bad
for back a lot. That's fine. No, it's totally fine. It's
totally fine. It's great. I think I think I'm gonna like play that
game all the way through. Now, yeah, you should like, yeah,
yeah, I've never done I never did it? Is it still every
twenty five years? I'm sorry, I haven't played in four days. It's
extremely fun. Still, it's a good one hundred and twenty star game.
Yep, Okay, it's a good sixteen star game. That's right. Yeah.
Also, another shout out to Tom Caswell, the homie from helping us
out with various needs Tomas for the weekend. Tom was great. Tom's a
good Egg video Games. Something else that happened last week was GDC Game the
Game Developer Conference. I think we should go to GDC one year. I
think I think just come by and I thought I would like. When I
saw some stuff that was happening this year, I'm like, oh, I
should be there, so I'll go with you next year. There we go.
I was accosted by one the politest man in games media, perhaps Ben
Hansen, just pointing a camera in my face. I didn't sign a waiver
or anything. That's been good dude, very very pleasant smile. But I
checked out a couple of games. I was at GDC for perhaps like hour
ish. I checked out South Park snow Day, which I had no idea
was a game until last week. It is a I don't know how to
describe it. It's like a shooter of sorts. It's like a destiny like
I guess, but there the scale is incredibly smaller. You have these modifier
cards and abilities that alter your jazz bullshit cards that get thrown against you,
that modify how the enemies behave like now your melee weapon is a pool noodle.
It just feels very odd to have a new South Park game and it's
still to be leaning into all of the older south Park jokes in twenty twenty
four. Well, also, just looking at it, I haven't played it
yet, it looks like the sixty four game, the first person shooter,
you know, which was that great. So it's so weird after the last
couple of south Park games, the last big ones, you know, going
in a very certain direction that is is good games and RPGs. Now for
them to take step to step back, and uh, Greb, were you
saying that, like Trey and Matt were like talking it up and signing off
and saying they were involved. I mean, this is this is made by
like that. When you started the game, it says that south Park Studios
or whatever, they're deeply involved. Matt and Trey are do all the voices.
They talk about it in an active way as if they like they did
the writing, which I'm I'm pretty sure they did. They When you start
up the game, they talk about how you are the new kid again,
just the same new kid that screwed up the last two games everyone was playing
because he got two op and now we have to start start over and stuff.
And so it's a continuation of the stories from from Stick of Truth and
the Holy Buttthole or whatever but hole. Yeah, and so it's like,
okay, so it's like they are maintaining the video game lore in this game.
So it's part of that like lineage there. So yeah, like they're
taking it pretty seriously. I mean, I get the sense that Matt and
Trey like video games a whole bunch, and to it's like, well,
we don't just want an RPG, we also like shooter stuff. Maybe if
we had our own Fortnite or something, that'd be cool, and it just
comes up very short. I think that the you know, three D world
and then the the the south Park style animated characters doesn't look too bad.
It is very reminiscent of that South Park game still though, or in sixty
four game. And then you start playing it and there's it's just there's just
not much there. It's just kind of weird and boring. And there's like
card things you can play to like to modify your character, and that means
one of those is like, okay, you're gonna get a big fart and
then you can like get a and that like enables you to jump up higher
and then you can like land on people and surprise them and stuff and say,
okay, it works in theory, but it feels pretty janky once you
start playing it. Yeah, once you like get into an enemy a bunch
of enemy encounters, the tools that you're disposed don't really feel good enough to
handle any of those enemies, like you'll have an option to be like a
bow caster or like a mage, and I want to picking a mage for
the demo, And it just feel felt very bad to try and tackle like
big groups of enemies because you have to charge up your shot to actually take
care and hit multiple enemies versus like a little puny fireball. Some of the
card modifiers seemed like they could eventually become opie and take it and suit your
needs better, but they feel very shit cards, like that's like literally what
they're called. I think the idea is to let them get op Yeah.
It did feel very jarring though, to have that switch to go back to
like the three D polygonal stuff, especially after like I thought Stick of Truth
and Fractured Butthole or Butthole looked very good, because it just felt like the
cartoon that going back to this felt like a weird step back. The art
style looks bad and three D it always has. Yeah, yeah, yeah
it looks weird. Yes, when you're just looking at one of the characters,
you're like you begin to see like, okay, they're kind of moving
like the show, and then in the three D world it actually looks fucked
up, it looks weird. I played only a little bit of this before
we had to go to PAS and I wasn't like rare in to play more,
but I did like look a little bit at the guide. They mentioned
that there is a four to five hour like single player experience, and then
there's the online mode. I'm not sure if that is, like if it's
PvP. I assume it's all PvP, but there's also a hord mode.
All of it just seems like not something I want to play more of all
that much, and so we might on this website. Yeah it's either that
our Suicide Squad one of those, but I did when I was playing through
it, it was I think maybe it was the single player campaign with co
op, So yeah, that sounds right. You can subject a friend to
that if you want to, I guess. But another game that I checked
out that I was very excited to see was Tales of Kenzera Zoo. This
was revealed at the Game Awards, I want to say last year, a
very heartfelt presentation, and yo, if y'all thought The Prince of Persia the
Lost Crown had very good two D movement and was a very good Castle Vania
metroid. This one blows it out of the watery Okay, well, that's
right, all right. The air dash that you get feels so crisp and
precise, and like the level of air control in it. The double jump
you get is nice enough, and like the what is it called triangle jumping
from all to wall feels okay. But being able to zip around the level
incredibly fast, and you have two forms of attack. You have a melee
focused mask, and then you switch your mask to be more projectile based,
and there is like a blocking and pairying system, and then if you are
playing as the projectile mask mode, you have an active reload. And I
looked at Abu, the director of the game, and I'm like, you,
motherfucker you you added an active to this game, and he was like,
yeah, man, I fucking did. And the game is full of
South African imagery, pulling from like the mythology and like the lore of of
that culture, and it's really done well. The story the game is his
his way of processing like the loss of his father, So there's like a
lot of heartfelt elements throughout the story and like the atmosphere of the game.
But like even just playing it, if you kind of like tuned out of
that. I think there's gonna be so much for you there. I accidentally
bunned over to the map and the map looked gigantic and it does kind of
remind me of, God, what is the furry two D platform or yeah
something? Oh okay, will you said furry two D platform? I head
was going a very different directions to uh, and it reminds me a lot
of that, just like the the bright, fuzzy visuals, like all the
bloom effects and everything. But like, I honestly can't wait to for all
y'all to just like get get your hands on it, because like the I
think you could just get by only focusing on one of the masks, because
both masks modes have skill trees, and like the Melee one felt like really
really good where you have like I love when a game two D game specifically
has like that, like down b to like slam down. Any game with
that, well, do a ranking of like ground butt stomps Yeah, yeah,
yeah, because this one has a really good one. Does Yoshi's Island
make it dan? Yeah? It makes them sound Yeah, it's good.
Incredible hull cultimate destruction you can do yeahod ones May Sports Classic definitely does it,
and he squirts during it. Sunshines is better because he becomes like a
meteor as he falls. That's good. Yeah, that's good. Ranking of
butt stumps, Yeah, we got to do that. But I'm really excited
for this game to come out. I believe it comes out next month and
the Kurt and Divina are our home at GameSpot wrote a very wonderful piece about
the game, talking with a Boo, I suggest you go check that out,
and I hope I'm hoping for me personally that that is the last big
game to come out and then I can just work on the backclog because there's
too much. There's too many games coming down. Yeah, come out April
twenty something, I want to say, Okay, fairly soon. I'm looking
forward to that one. I played the demo during a Steam Next fest.
They had a demo for that, and it's only got to play a little
bit of it, but I was very excited because since they have the ranged
combat in it, Metroid Vanyas are always just the Castle Vania side. They
are never the Metroid side, and so that except Serge one, the one
that is yes, yeah, the bad one we don't care. I know
you don't like Merge. Yeah, you don't either. The first one is
great. Yeah, it's really good kids. What do you mean, dude,
nys Metroid sucks at axiom Verse takes from n Yes Metroid yeast. Yeah,
you can like an analog stick and there's more weapons and stuff. I'm
not getting into it. I'm happy that a good game is he to have
the the metroid side things where you can't just like run and shoot, and
that just feels really good and I'm happy that that is being represented and not
just the melee side thing. It's like as good as Prince of Persia is,
clearly that's entirely focused on melee sid things, So I was kind of
missing that run and gun aspect. Go ahead, grip, Yeah, I
was just gonna say, yeah, that's what I was noticing as well.
Having something more Metroid like was getting me excited. And I think the the
style is very good. How do the visual standout compared to Prince of Persia
because I know, even going back to Prince of Persia j it's pretty similar
to me from a distance, but I don't know being in the world,
I think it's more saturated and and brighter. And I know that there are
parts of Prince of Persia specifically like the cut scenes and the character presentations,
like when you would meet a new character. Yeah, but I think it's
like a overall a brighter visual palatee and there's a lot more glowy bits because
of the masks and everything. I should say that Aboo Slium is also the
guy the actor from Raised by Wolves, the Ridley Scott Hbo Mini Solow.
That was kind of wild to see. It's like you also, you're also
into games. Holy shit. Nope, times, Nope times. Speaking about
no, there's no way to pivot to this Princess Pet's showtime, Dan,
Yeah, I played a bunch of that yesterday. I think I'm near the
end ish already. Oh it's not long I played, you know, I
played all through Raw last night, and I played a lot during the day
and uh, yeah, I think it's like seven or eight hours from what
I'm hearing first run through. It's a nice game. How much is it?
Is this a full price? I do not think so. It was
a good question that would affect my thoughts on if it's like thirty or forty.
I think that's that sounds okay, it's full price. Yeah, is
it seven? I think it's I think it's sixty sixteen. Okay, that
seems like all lies. It's light in terms of what you can do,
it is, but also it's got that thing that it's got a very Kirby's
epic yarn thing where I do feel like if a kid wanted to play it,
it would not be that difficult. There are a few boss fights where
there's some light pattern recognition, as kid expert Dan Ryker goes, right,
that's right. I think, Oh, I don't think Dylan could do it,
but like Jeff kids could of course, Yeah, reps kids. There
is a decent amount of variety in the different like suits or outfits or versions
of Peach. You know, it starts like sword fighter and Cowgirl, and
like each one has a gimmick. You know, the Cowgirl's got a lasso
and she can like grab stuff and throw it. There's like the unique ones
are kind of fun, like the Chef one. It feels like Mario Party
mini games because you're just kind of like floating on a swing and like sometimes
you'll be like going up against a bad guy and you have to like design
cakes the quickest and you have you know, like, oh, I got
to put these four drops here, and I got to do this icing around
the edge. And I think the chef stuff has been fun. Sometimes it
turns into like an auto runner. When you're in Ninja, there's like some
slight puzzle stuff. When you're a detective, it's like a Sherlock Holmes outfit
and you walk around with the magnifying glass. So it's not all platform or
segments. I'd say it's eighty percent. Platforming is kind of the main hook
of the outfits. Sometimes you'll be swimming like a mermaid and you know,
the Ninja stuff, the auto running, but it's I like the variety.
I like going into each level and being like, okay, I wonder what
the gimmick's going to be here. And then there's I want to say,
there's like fourteen to sixteen or something like that based on the collection screen,
and they will have you know, they'll double up where it's like, okay,
here's the second you know, sword fighter level or whatever. So once
you've learned the abilities and stuff, it's all like one button stuff. So
it's like when you're the sword fighter, this button will slash with the sword,
you know, So the level, you're not actively switching between the outfits.
They're catered towards the specific gimmicks, right. Yeah, Like it's set
in like a theater and there's like five stories to it in a basement,
and like there's four doors in each one, and you'll see like here's a
chef hat above this one door, so you go in there. It's like
all right, going to do a chef level and getting onto the sword door.
That's the sword fighter level, So like you know what you're getting into,
and like there's usually a part of the beginning of each where it's like
you're just peach and you can do this like sparkle move that makes like enemies
turn from evil to good or like oh this bush didn't have berries on it
and now it does. And then you eventually get to the hat or the
outfit or whatever it is, and you turn into the gimmick and the rest
of the level is that. I fired up the demo last night, and
from why I could tell you it very much seems like Baby's first video game
in a very intentional way. It's like this is a game where like rub
would sit down with gimmicks and be like, hey, go over there and
press the bun to do the thing, like if you were teaching the kid
how to play a video game for the first time. Totally. Yeah,
like the low stakes, low consequences to dying. I think Kirby have a
guarant did a similar thing where it's like you're just getting the coin analog whatever
it is as sparkles or you know, beads and Kirby and when you die
you lose some of those. But like, the checkpoints are very forgiving.
It's very very easy. But that's not a knock on it, you know.
I do think that young kids or people who haven't really played video games
before, I think would have fun with this. And I'm not not having
fun with it. I'm just you know, I'm just like, oh,
okay, that's clever, that's nice, you know. I'm not like,
yeah, you know right. The Pardon Me is like a little bit sad
we can't get the Prince's Speech game that is for all audiences. But you
know, I think it's this better this than nothing. And when I did
show my kids the demo and had them play it, they it was working
that way because it does use a lot of familiar video game verbiage. You
just go here, press the button, do the things you need to do
in other video games, but it is, you know, not constrained with
like, oh, it's very difficult to actually secute that. It's just like
difficult to understand how a video game's talking to you a little bit. So
it was all right, yeah, you need to do this first, and
then that's going to knock down this wall, and then you can go do
that, and that stuff is actually still challenging for a kid, even when
it's a one button press, and even when it is like there's not a
lot of enemies around you, they don't necessarily like just fall into that line
of thinking. So it's like, Okay, I will have to kind of
sit with her a little bit here while she figures this stuff out. But
then I did let her play, and it was a little frustrating to her,
like trying to figure that stuff out, but eventually she would get it,
you know, she would come around and be like, oh, okay,
I've poked at all these things and now I get it. And she
was able to overcome most of the challenges. And I think the chef one
was maybe a little bit more difficult for her than the what was the other
one in the demo? Was it not the Ninja? Maybe the sword Fighters
sword Fighters sword Fighters? Yeah, she got that one pretty quickly. Chef
one is like one of the more challenging ones, like because it's got these
timed objectives and it is kind of like you have like a small canvas to
be sprying this icing on and it's like this big, chunky icing stuff.
So I fucked up a few times, and some of the timing stuff like
it has like some weird spikes and difficulty like these cookie baking mini games and
stuff like that. So I did find the Chef one. The cheff you
never say chef, right, Yeah, definitely doesn't ever say chef no.
Ye. The Chef carts Yeah yeah, that's probably among the harder ones timing
wise. Yeah. So I'm happy this game exists. I will be getting
it for the kids and we'll see. Maybe I'll spend some time with it
myself. I'm a big Nintendo fan, and I like Princess Peach as a
character, and I think it's cool that they are letting her express herself in
ways that aren't like you know, Super Princess Peach with you know, the
emotional powers, the crying and stuff better than that. But you know,
part of me is like, man, it does feel like I don't know,
maybe this isn't right, but I feel like you're doing Peach a little
dirty here by not letting her have like the big, full Princess Peach adventure.
It would be nice if she could have more of like a Kirby that
is like targeting kids, but a Dulkin to you play it because there are
more challenging things that you can do it eventually, right, it was if
it was in line with Kirby and the Forgotten Realm, Forgotten City, Forgotten
Town, forgot Land, thank you. Uh. If it was more in
lines with that, I think zero complaints because my kids love Forgotten Land,
play it over and over and over again. And that also feels like a
substantial, big game, and so I think that is the right line to
walk. So yes, if they did something like that, I'd be very
happy. Yeah. I think the best like playing as Peach situation is still
like Mario two or three D World Like. I think those are the investments
you just want to play as each throughout entire game. That's right. Uh,
Speaking about pretty wild and I guess I know still God Trent Man being
bigne your jet lagged, it's the jet lag. It's everyone knows that a
time zone change effects segues. Everyone need I need to like go run in
a forest or something or like, and then remember I can't swim. Oh,
don't do that. Then about like an unending a dungeon that I'm going
to do with your three reload? Oh oh, we're going to me Okay,
trying to for I'm trying to force a segue there is where's the segment
going? Yeah, you're still playing reload. I'm still playing Persona three reload
if you know, you know with personal games, I'm in the final calendar
month, so I'm prepping for the final battle. Here. I'm gonna be
wrapping up the game, if not over the weekend, then like the next
play session during the week. I basically just have to do the final boss.
I want to bring it back up because one talked about this a little
bit on BombCast for Revengeance at one time that we did a podcast in the
middle of a seven hour Mario Kart screams, so people remember I have caught
that one. But also just the more I play it, the more I
understand what our pal Michael Hyam was saying on the review cast, where there's
more quality of life stuff to this than I thought there would be, because
as you go through the game, uh, they keep adding stuff that was
not in the original, and eventually these layers keep building up, all the
small things keep adding up to at the end of it. You play a
persona game and a lot of it is doing the social links, and that's
a big chunk of it. And then, especially in person of three,
you know, the combat almost is secondary. But by the time I'm at
the end of the game, here, Tartaris, my least favorite part of
the game, has so much things, so many things to do, and
all these little things that I can attempt to do that I'm like, all
right, I'm actually I'm kind of digging being in Targaris. Now, like
my least favorite part of the game, they have overhauled enough that I'm kind
of digging it. And so the more I play it, the more I'm
really liking it. And that's just you know, everything else about Persona three,
the music, the presentation, the story is really good. In Persona
three, all of it's coming together in a way that I was a little
lukewarm when we were first talking about in that review cast, But now I'm
a point where it's it's really hitting with me, and I am really liking
everything that they've done the remate to make it more accessible and just to make
it feel more modern. I would say, hmm, yeah, I'm looking.
That's on the top of the list for circling back to after all these
game releases stop, these games stop releasing, Sean, how many hours would
you say you've put in at this point? Well, I can see because
as I on your safe out, I'm at seventy hours and I'm like at
the final boss fight. So I did. Yeah, I didn't think I
was spent quite as much time because my original Persona th replay through was about
fifty five ish. But I've been spending a little more time now that I
know how Persona games work. On the whole, I'm basically one hundred percent
of it trying to get a social link stone or anything like that. I
do want to say, since it's been brought up though with Persona three reload,
I think these kinds of games this is more of what I want to
see in nowadays. A game that is smaller in scope and then very much
carried on its art style and its music and everything like that. Sure it's
a remake of a PS two game, but just generally speaking, these smaller
in scope development wise games that have a lot of depth to them in the
characters and everything like that, I think I think we need a little bit
more more games not being afraid to be smaller in that way, because with
everything's ballooning out control in terms of photorealistic graphics and these long de have times
for these open world games filled with so much stuff to do, it's nice
to play a game where it's just story driven and you kind of just getting
into the characters and the voice acting is really good and everything like that,
and that's carrying me forward. I really like it. I want to like
fashion that take into an excuse to call you old from just like not able
to connect. They talk about my We've game, like I'm like, oh,
you're getting old there, turbo humping, So that's not it's not it.
So I'm just gonna just not make that joke. It's okay, Jeff,
I've always been forty, so don't worry. Everyone knows that, Okay.
I appreciate it that way. No, I agree with you, Sean,
Like I found myself almost tempted to go back and play Final Fantasy ten
of all games, just because of like, bro, that's on the list
I saw in the Steam sale. I'm like, I'm gonna play some ten
too, right now. I saw people talk about the Did you know that
they made Yuna's pistols into a controller? Yes? Yes, yeah, like
like the Ari fourteen saw controller, but it's her guns. I know that's
so fucking sick well about of a game, But I just remember ten just
being like pretty pretty linear. Uh, And then as a child, just
me thinking like I don't mind this, yeah, just goind me where to
go. I'm I'm a dumb child. And then maybe I've become like a
lazy adult or also forty years old where I look at a giant map sometimes
and I'm like, oh the same for me, Chief, my God,
just want me where to go. Just give me the markers, give me
the dead space critical path line, give me the mic Minatti critical path to
get there as fast as possible. I don't need all these side quests.
Just give me the quest, like like I was talking about when we were
talking Rebirth. I just did the main story of Rebirth because I'm like,
look, the open world is there for all of y'all who want it,
it ain't for me. I'm just I'm going from town to town story progress.
Yeah, I'm slowly progressing with Rebirth as well, on the side of
everything, just chugging through the story here and there, still enjoying my time.
But I look at my world map and it is so foggy. It
is so foggy because I am just like going straight to the marker I'm taking.
I'm just jumping off cliffs to try and get there as soon as possible
and skipping as many of the side stuff, which I'm sure is great and
I'm happy that people are happy having it. There's just so much in that
game. Like, I don't need these twelve mini games, but thanks.
I guess I've I don't know about y'all. I experience a lot of hand
fatigue, a lot and Dan with your broken fingies. This might apply to
you as well, But I've had to turn off vibration on a lot of
games just because like, really much, we're too much. I haven't Yeah.
P S five specifically with the adapt the triggers of like just let me
press the button PlayStation, please just stop. The adaptive triggers are so dumb.
Why why do you want me to make it feel like my controller is
broken? No, I I I take umbrage with that. I think,
yeah, no, they they're cool in the right application. Yes, sure,
I agree that, uh you know, playing a shooting game where you're
like, oh cool, more energy needs to be used to like make the
the bullet go boom. Like that's dumb, and I turn that off a
lot. But I do think there are like really fun kind of uh you
know, little moments that it like enhances the overall thing if they're like really
uh developed with that in mind, in a real clever I'm really curious what
you would shout out examples there was something. There was one in uh oh
the I think it's good. In Spider Man. I feel like a remake
Are four had some good like you know, gun effects and things like that.
Yeah, the Spy, and I think I think it's good. I
think it works for guns when you're not just like spraying and praying right like
when you're in Ari four, we're like mostly every bullet is like this very
sort of like calculated uh you know moment. I think it's it's more impactful
in that use case. But yes, I think Spider Man two did a
really good job of making a lot of uses. If the man what is
it in So there's like puzzle solving with like opening locks where you have to
like, uh, you know, to like separately, Yeah, we have
to like separately control the pressure you're putting on each trigger to make them line
up in a column. I think it was just a shooting web felt really
good, like pulling through web, and there was almost like that it's the
resistance, right, Like, I think the resistance is really where it like
uh comes in and it's sort of cool. And and I do think,
like I agree in the sense that like a lot of the hype for that
was front loaded because Astrovious was so perfectly tuned. We predicted that we all
like yeah, said the same thing totally. I remember saying it in a
video where I was like, this is gonna be awesome right now and then
might get left by the wayside. And I think for the most part it
has. But when it does work well, I think it pops. I
think it's really really special. I had to turn it off after a while,
but I did enjoy it in Ratchet and Clank. It was good.
Yeah, that's the game where a lot of people like me and Robert talking
about a few times there where everyone was talking about some of the effects,
like the the double barrel shotgun you pull a halfway to shoot one barrel and
then yeah, another time to shoot there. I'm like, that's that's neat,
that's sure, but yeah, that's so So many of these examples that
you guys are bringing up is either oh, I feel resistance on something for
the sake of realism, or it's something that could be accomplished without the resistance.
Like the example that I just I want the resistance. I want that.
For some of us, that's just like it just stresses my hands out,
I can't do it. But like the shotgun thing, well, trigger
down and then trigger up accomplishes the same thing. And that's sort of the
mentality I'm having anytime they try to put this stuff into these games, they
are they're definitely trying to stretch it in there. They're like they try to
justify it. Exactly. They have this thing, they're supposed to use it,
and you know it's we've We've had this for years and years and years,
you know, all the of the the effect like people using the microphone
on DS and touch screen controls. Was bad about that? A lot of
walking over logs and balancing the like shaking a grenade tag up and resistance when
you could just write using the back touch on a vida in like Charted,
Golden the b whatever the game. One game there's there's always one game that's
very good at just like it's like the cousin of the person who like spearheaded
it at Sony, Like it's like, oh, yeah, yeah, I
I know how this works. I could remember this, no problem for me.
The best thing about the dual dual sense is actually the speaker, because
that's actually also what drives the haptics, and so those two things working in
conjunction actually make the haptics like sound and feel the way they're supposed to sound.
So yeah, god, I remember. You should know by now why
I don't like that. I live an apartment complex. I have to play
with headphones on. Guess what that? Yes, I think could be annoying
if you don't want it making sound. Yes, yeah, so terrified The
first time I fired up Death stranding and that baby started screaming, like,
what is happening? Who is the fucking or? I thought you meant the
other baby. Chadley talking at you out of here? Yeah, pro Chadley
here all right? Sorry, Chadley is an honorary now, Jeff Grub,
you put on this list here. Top Racer Collection, yeah. Top Racer
Collection is a collection of what was once called top Gear games, mostly for
Super Nintendo. I believe that's where I played them. They are pretty good
Super Nintendo racing games, and they've collected all of them in here. It's
like top Gear top Gear three thousand, things like that. And I like
these games when I would rent them for the Super Nintendo and it took me
a second. Usually figuremats. They actually have like energy management. You actually
have to manage your gasoline stuff like that, so when you get in longer
races you have to re fuel things like that. And so I am enjoying
having more time with them, but it's I'm like, I also now remember
why. It's like I would rent it and then not rent it again anytime
soon or try to buy it because they you know, they are mostly like
bite size experiences. They have really good music, But I'm not like,
oh, I'm not super enamored with the depth here. I do remember playing
a lot more top Gear Rally on n sixty four. In sixty four,
I had really great racing games and that was that was definitely one of the
top ones for me. But these are like nice little nostalgia pieces and in
a good collection that does a really good job of presenting them. At the
very least like it. It gives you all games in a menu, and
when you select them, it's not like it's like it doesn't feel like it's
loading up a rom it feels like you're already in there. It just goes
right into the game and you're off to the races, literally, I guess.
And then when you want to go try the other one, you just
back out, back out, and it doesn't feel like you're going back to
a main menu that's going to take a second to load. It's just really
well put together in that way. But it's hey, I was like really
happy to see them actually bring stuff like this back. It feels like great
a point where most of the games from that era have been mined for their
content and re released them one way or the one way or the other,
and now we are getting down to things like top gear, and I'm like
going, yeah, I actually still care about these as well, and so
it's been fun to have these and play them on the Steam deck or whatever.
But it's not like I'm not gonna I'm not telling anybody go out there
if you haven't played these, if you don't have a nostalgia for him,
you don't feel like you're gonna have to go track this down. This is
for people who remember these games somewhat fondly. Dan Record, I think you
put this on Outcast New Beginning I did. It is a B game,
I say lovingly as a lover of B games. It feels like this game
was made in two thousand and five. Maybe it was like a late Xbox
early three sixty thing. Apparently it's a sequel to a game I was not
familiar with. It's called Outcast from nineteen ninety nine. It's made by THHQ
Nordick, so it even sounds like, you know, a classic B game
publisher. You play as Cutter Slade. Yeah, look up what this dude
looks like. He looks exactly like you should, look like he's had his
memory wiped and he's on the planet Adelpha, and he has a jet pack.
There's like a whole jetpack skill tree. It's all about just gliding around,
plying around this alien planet. I'm not going to sit here and say
it's an amazing game, but playing it, I played like an hour of
it, and every bit of it was just giving me nostalgia for like a
time period that like I don't think is really represented with you know, nostalgic
titles these days. It just it felt like an Xbox game early on,
and that jet pack stuff is pretty fun. Oh lordy, I thought like,
oh, that's fun. Dan checked out an older game for some reason,
and then I see the release date March fifteenth. Yes, it just
came out right. And you know, the original Outcast is a sort of
deep cut game for a lot of people. It's something that some people remember
and almost no one else does. It was like an early Vauxhall game,
right, I think something like that, and I think, so, okay,
I might be mixed up with something else. But it was like,
oh, I had like open world elements like before a lot of other games
had open world stuff going on, and so a lot of people were very
excited about this game coming back. I've never played the original Outcast, so
I was like, should I try to play that then this? But hearing
you Dan say that this kind of feels already like an older game, I'm
like, they're probably just trying to recapture that feeling in this game, so
I could probably just jump right to this, I would imagine. I mean,
Cutter Slade has had his memory wipe, so you'd be right there with
him. Hell, yes, yes, doesn't look bad this. I just
don't want to make people think it's like, oh, it's just big,
it's just like Horizon Open World, Super Quady whatever. It's not that it's
very like, but I mean the shooting and everything, like the dodgy round
jetbacks, that feels pretty snappy. It's uh, it's been fun from when
I played. I'm seeing Cutter Slade zip around and like shield bash dudes in
a small jetpack. God, Cutter Slade, what a top ten name of
our pagonist I've ever heard? Yeah, my my favorite developmental talent and NXT
I loved him on the indies. I'm surprised his name. Yeah yeah,
uh, st Pressure should be a cutter. Oh that's gold. We should
we should put all our eggs in like an indie wrestler, and just collectively
manage them them to the top. We could somebody with like five managers.
Exactly. How has that never happened? Right? We classify as a stable
because we got multiple people in there, but only one of them wrestles.
Exactly, yeah, exactly. We all just constantly slip the weapons and distract
the rep Okay, okay, hear me out here, here me are what
do we gotta do to get Mike on the circuit. Mike will do,
We'll we'll evaporate. Mike is a wrestler. As a wrestler, he will
and he's not gonna Bumpf's what I'm saying. He's not gonna bump, and
he's not gonna bump and take a power bumb he shoot viewed with Carledo.
See there's things here we can do. We're after the races God. And
then he'll he'll react like someone shooting black mist in his face. Yeah,
yeah, corrupt him. The apple corrupts him. I feel like he would
say he wouldn't take a bump, But if we started putting him over for
in wrestling, I think he wouldn't be able to like avoid the adelation.
So I think the ego will have to go over like he would take like
a rock Bottom or something, you know, just the right circumstance, you
know, if he was from the rock Yes, kno match though, that's
what I really want to see. I would love. I think Mike could
have a pretty good choke slam or like an iron claw. Mike would have
a really good iron He should do the pounce. Yes, oh all right,
if we ever find ourselves in like I don't know, like a bounce
house or something or a ring I putting it here BombCast eight thirty three,
I will take a pounce from Mike Manatti and sell my ass off. God
going back to Cutter Slaton forgetting who you are. I'm gonna just say this
is a game of the week because this is the last game here in the
list. Dragons Dogma too. I am very bad at character creators too.
I hate them. I find them very overwhelmed. I spent two fucking hours
in this character creat but it kind of does it right, and that like
I feel like over time, just like more sliders equal better character creator for
a lot of people. And at a certain point that got kind of overwhelming,
and I do love how like if you want to do that Dragons Dogman
two, lets you do that. And you can do sliders on everything.
But there's also the basic like, hey, pick one of these faces.
Okay, now pick one of these variations that face. Now I have about
one more. And then it's like a way of kind of narrowing it down
and having a lot of say over it without having to like go into like
jaw height and everything, you know, right, because when I do jaw
height, like it affects other things on the face, and now I'm like,
well, now I don't know where to go back to fix that thing
that doesn't look right anymore, so I get lost really quickly. So you're
right. Having the approximations that's the best way for me, and the fact
that it has both where people who are good at it can go in there
and do whatever they want to the face, and then for me, I
can just keep hitting the random button or hitting the variation variation button. That's
really nice. I haven't had too much time to to uh dive into Dragon's
Dogma too, other than Character Creator maybe like the early couple of missions,
but I have have you all Gotte the chance to play any of this.
Yeah, who's playing this the most? Sean You've played the most of this?
I'm assuming I'm like a dozen hours into it. I'm like six and
maybe yeah oh okay, yeah, I was playing over the weekend while all
you chuckle focks are out of packs. Oh god, people are not gonna
like me address episode. No. I feel like I feel like most people
are. I feel like the vibe I get on this game just going into
it, just from like having a surface level extraction of like the sort of
taking the temperature overs like a lot of people who like it, a lot
of people who are mad at it, right, and like it's probably in
reality sits somewhere in like the above average category. Where's the madness coming from?
H I don't like the micro transactions. I'm sorry that Capcom has had
in all their games for the last little bit, but where are they talking
about them? Six hours? I haven't even seen them. They're not in
the game. You have to go to like the Steam store to find them,
and you have to go out your way to exist. The status is
like, what is the it's fast travel, it's it's a whole bunch of
things that makes if you buy Berry Stones, can you buy consumables in the
game, You can spend like a buck or two to get the extra right
stuff that would get you through the early game a lot faster. Yeah.
It's basically just like, do you want to pay extra money to have cheat
codes? And people are very upset with them. Yeah, and it's it's
what they've done. And then the Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Tiger
Woods games, you could buy stat points, you know, yeah, yes,
Okay, So I need to preface this by saying that I'm very much
a Capcom guy, like they're my company in the way that like rub is
with Nintendo. Just if Capcom puts something out, I know I'm going to
play it, whether it be the things I'm really into, like their fighting
games and their action games like Devil May Cry and adjacent stuff like Mega Man,
or even stuff genres that I'm not typically into, like horror. I'm
not a horror guy, but I have a deep appreciation for Resident Evil.
I love all those games, and even like multiplayer stuff. I'm not a
loot loop kind of guy, but Monster Hunter is fantastic. I was really
hoping that Dragon's Dogma two would be that for me with this with like western
high fantasy RPG kind of stuff, you know, like an elder scrosy kind
of thing. That's typically not the type of thing I'm into. But I'm
like, yo, like this dev team and everyone is ISA. It'suno who's
working on it and everything, Like I really wanted to give a shot.
I was hoping that this would be the one. And every time I play
this game, it feels like the game hates me, and I kind of
hate it as a result, because anytime I'm playing it, I feel stupid,
like I'm doing something wrong and I don't know why. I don't know
if I'm encountering a weird amount of bugs or if this is intentional. Like
I will be walking around a city and a night will attack me and I'm
like, excuse me, I didn't do anything, and just the night's attacking
me. I don't know why. I was just shopping and now my pawns
are fighting him, and I have to figure out how to like get away
from this situation that I didn't cause as far as I know, and I'll
run around the city to try to get rid of them. I'll run to
like somewhere else in on the world, map and I this night will follow
me, and I don't know why. I feel like when yeah, gru
when you like soft locked in a starfield, I feel like that's what's happening
to me, where I did something wrong at some point and because there's no
say files, there's this perpetual saving. I think I may have fucked my
game up at some point and I can't figure out how to unfuck it.
But that's kind of beside the point, uh, my my core issue.
Like, like I said, so I'm not the target, and so you
know, take what I'm saying with a grain of salt here. I'm just
providing my perspective as someone on the outside a little bit who wouldn't typically be
into these games. I kind of feel about this game the way that I
and as I remember Dan saying he felt about Spider Man two last year,
where I can tell there's something here and I can tell that there's something everyone
seems to love this game. I get it, but I'm not understanding why
to me when I see it, Like with Spider Man two, if I
said this, if you had never seen INSOMNIAX Spider Man games, and I
say the sentence to you, PlayStation made an open world Spider Man game.
I feel like Spider Man two is the most literal interpretation of that sentence,
where yeah, you're gonna be swinging around Spider Man. There's all these little
side quests that's gonna be very story driven. You're gonna have a lot of
cimet cut scenes walking and talking. It feels it felt uninspired to me,
and I get that other people like it, but I was clicking with me.
That's what Dragon's Dogma two feels like to me. It feels like the
most literal interpretation of Capcom made a Western RPG style of the game where I
don't feel the combat isn't quite clicking with me. I've tried all the different
classes. I started with Thief and that went horribly, Like, for example,
there's a down thrust, so I'm like, well, clearly I can
like you know, Assassin's Creed some pools, No, because your character flails
out halfway through, and so that just doesn't work. I love that.
I love that, it's funny. It's funny, but I lost like half
an hour progress from dying a bad place by doing that. It's like cool,
I'm trying like to sort and shield and that's not really working out,
and I'm trying all these different classes and the combat just isn't clicking with me.
I go into the town and it feels very sparse because of technical issues,
like people pop in like ten feet in front of you. And that's
the entire thing that we could talk about, is the technical performance here.
Yeah, it which I'm playing on PC, and that's the thing. I
I have an editor's PC, so it's a little unbalanced, but unbalanced in
the way that should be beneficial for this game. I'm a really powerful CPU.
I have a fifty eight hundred X so, you know, like a
high end CPU from the last generation of rizins, and it is struggling to
run this game a decent frame, right, And even I go into towns
and I'm running ten ADP settings turned down, so my GPU shouldn't be a
thing there, and it's just it's not because a CPU bound and my CPU
is still struggling to render all this stuff out. And so if you were,
if you're running in four K, still wouldn't be the bottleneck. Yeah,
exactly, That's that's what I'm saying here. That's what I'm saying here.
I turned like all the GPU sattings down to just just to be sure,
just to be absolutely positive, and no, CPU is still struggling,
and so these performance issues on top of everything else. Like I'm a very
technically my guy, So it's my experience with Dragon's Dogma two has not been
good. And it's a bummer because everyone seems to be enjoying it, and
like I said multiple times, there's something here that clearly people are into.
I just can't figure out what it is personally, so for me, and
I've only played a little bit dan out though they'll let you talk for me,
Like when you describe Hey starts failing flailing halfway down to jump, I'm
like, Okay, this game is like gonna have a lot of weird consequences
to your actions that feel like like you can know you can't just jump because
the character cannot control themselves in the air, so deal with that. And
then I'm like, okay, that's actually I like that. And if you
pick someone up, you throw them. There's like a real physics system that's
accounted for all that stuff, which is actually what's causing a lot of problem
with the CPUs. Everything, like everything's affected by the physics system. So
it's to count that for every single NPC. So it's like, okay,
that to me, that creates a huge possibility space. And that's the kind
of thing I like in these games. And then I I like the way
it feels just like start climbing an enemy with my thief and just just just
slamming on them the k That's that's been my favor thing so far. Or
when a giant shoot what's the term. But like the bird dragon in Griffin
thank You, where Griffin pops up, I'm like, oh, this is
monster hunter now, hell yeah, that's really fun. But like like Grub,
what I'm talking about is like the thief has like just jump and pressed
strong attack and they thrust downward with their two knives. Clearly I'm supposed to
use that from above someone, So I go to like my my ceiling here,
Yeah that's the height I'm jumping from out like what I know. I
know. But it's like, okay, it's like that's not gonna work.
So I knocked the character down and when they're down on the ground, then
I slammed knives. But that's the thing. I feel like these things,
so many of these things should just work and it's not. I don't think
it's that game. It's it's where it's like, No, it works in
its very own specific way, and you need to meet it halfway. And
that means there's friction and a lot of these elements. And to me that
that's exciting. And I think that's because I'm a weirdo and I like,
you know, espresso and black coffee, black liquorice, and there's nothing wrong
with my brain. All right, it's got triggered. The liquoric just fucked
up sociopath. Yes, I think sneak that in with expresso. What are
you doing favors? It's bitter flavors. I love flavor, is what I'm
saying. Yeah, by the way Chad is asking, yes, I am
using a team of ponds that is spread out. I have. I have
Wooly Versus guiding me around the world as my warrior, and then uh yeah,
I have a mage and everything like that. I have a diverse team
and so I know you can do like these team up attacks and everything like
that. Just none of it's feeling sounds like it's just not going to be
for you, Sean, that's what's sounding. But I think it kind of
is for me in that, like, I'm typically not drunk. What's that?
What? What were you saying? I said, did anyone ask Austin
if he likes the game? Oh? Yes, yes, he's remap talking
about Austin because that he's a huge dragon was a dragons Dogma guy. Yeah.
I was wondering because I did know he talked to Patrick, right,
yep. I was curious that I don't know what the verdict was though it
seems like he's super into it. Yeah, I mean everyone's loving it,
like is doing phenomenally well review wise and or anything like that. So yeah,
just to like kick you off, Dan, I think Sean, you,
me, and Dan, we're all like Breadth of the Wild people.
And this starts to remind me of how I felt about Breath of the Wild,
where it's like the game pushes back against you and you have to overcome
that stuff. But I think maybe the ways you can overcome it just aren't
working for you. Dan, how do you feel about it? It is
closer to Breath the Wild than it is like, you know, an Elder
Scrolls or something like that, and I feel that, like I'm typically not
into like the fantasy RPG type thing like I don't I've never played the Dragon's
Age. I don't really have any interest I need. I need that dewey
factor. And like Skyram and Oblivion and stuff did it for me because it
felt like you could kind of break the game in cool ways and you could
just like, oh, I can just kill this character. I can do
things my own way. But that's still like Elder Scrolls has more kind of
like lower stuff than I don't care about in more dialogue, and so like
I just kind of want to do stuff in that world. And Dragon's Dogma.
I feel like I didn't play the first one. This one, I'm
just like instantly doing stuff and it's very it's heavy on the combat. As
soon as I saw there's like oh I can just pick up living characters that
aren't dead yet and just chuck them off a cliff. Well, that's going
to be my whole thing, throwing dudes into other dudes. I'm throwing exploding
barrels into dudes' faces. I see picking them up, I'm throwing them.
Yes, that stuff's great. There's weird physics stuff going on and like some
of that stuff that like Sean, you've been hitting even bumping into with like
the chaos of like what the fuck's going on? Why are you guys fighting?
Why are you following me? I like that kind of emergence stuff where
it's like I don't know how the fuck this happened, but like now I'm
dealing with it, Like I find some unpredictable in a way that like I
liked from like Tears of the Kingdom, Breath the Wild, things like that
where just seeing how the AI and everything plays off each other. I think
I've gotten lucky in that I'm not having performance issues on PS five I did.
It was definitely like chugging, and I was like, okay, this
is gonna bug me, so I switched. Okay, So what you played
on PS five then PC? Okay, so you're you're the person asked do
you recommend people playing on play console or PC? PC? Like it's okay,
yeah, the frame rate was really chugging on PS five, and like
I've got a really good PC, and but I have not had any kind
of like I'm playing it pre crazy. It's pretty bad everywhere everybody like danis,
you're playing on the NCXT computer the forty ninety Yeah, okay, yes,
So that's a very good CPU, but still probably better on most PCs.
And also to be clear, like I'm struggling to hit what I deem
an acceptable frame rate, which is like sixty ish, and the fact that
I'm struggling to hit thirty in the town is what's follering me. If you
go over at console, that's even worse. So like if you have the
option, PC is still better on the two. I would say the thing
that's bugging me the most about it so far is like I like going off
the beaten path and just exploring in these type of games, and I find
that, you know, there are a lot of treasure chrests and things that
are off the beaten path, but every time I go there, it's just
super underwhelming. It's like, I don't know, here's another thing that I
can mix with a fruit and turn into a potion. You know. It's
like it's not like I'm not getting a lot of like, Wow, check
out this cool you know, new piece of gear or whatever. So uh,
some of that's bugging me a little bit. I love the real footage
of meat. I fantastic, Get me more. What's that? Explain that
for people? That's so when you go to a camp and you set up
your camp for the night, and everything you can cook at a campfire,
and based on like what you have from like enemies you've killed and things like
that, you can cook it. And it just cuts to like very nice
be roll of sizzling steaks and things like that. Yes, super like pornographically
close up images of sizzling meat. It is. It's really really great.
I love that that Sam was eaten good after shit. Oh yeah, yeah,
that would have been a fun shoot. Yeah, I haven't cooked like
have you ever cooked like rotten meat. I haven't done that yet in the
game or in the game. Yeah, your meat will age and I usually
just discard it. And I realized, oh shit, I've never tried to
like cook the shitty meat. Anyone else asking that question, Sean, you
would have been like, oh, he's not talking about actual right, it's
entirely possible. He means that, so fair fair play. In the early
bits of the game, I think I am really enjoying it because of how
dumb it is. It just feels dumb and it's enabling me to be dumb,
which I appreciate. Like, is that the reason that also doesn't like
it because it's dumb. No, yes, I think it's the dum dumbness.
He likes the dumbness that that happens in the possibility space goddamn studio.
Yeah, yes, like the stuff that like anything can happen. Yeah.
Yeah, I guess I don't like realize I guess I'm not extracting that out
of like the reception of this game. But that was the thing that was
the thing that was stringing me along for at least the first few hours there,
because I was like, oh, this is a Capcom game, because
like it's dumb in like the way that Resident Evil's dumb. Resident Evil isn't
like, uh constant goofy jokes are firing off at all times. No,
you're gonna have it's a zombie game where people are spouting off one and stuff
like that. It's that type of silliness that is sort of still grounded in
as close to reality as the situation can be. Similar to a lot of
us, I had not played the original Dragon's Dogma other than hearing Austin and
Jason A. Striker wax poetically about playing the game. But I think what
I benetit benefited from was hearing Scott McCrae on Game Mess a week ago,
a week and a half ago, at this point, approaching it like a
breath of the wild or tearers of the Kingdom. So I think I had
that mentality when approaching it. And this isn't spoilers, but in like a
early flashback in the game, when you're fighting a giant dragon, I walked
up to it and thought, well, they let me climb, like the
Medusa thing, well, they let me climb this one. And instead of
like fighting back and like getting hit by the fire and protecting my ponds,
I'm like, fuck, y'all, this is a flashback. I'll be fine
with whatever I do. And I just like circle or and climb the tail,
and I'm like, this game is amazing. And I climbed the tail
and I wasn't watching my stamina at all. So I'm up there on the
dragon. I've climbed its spine and then my dude, that looks like a
combination of me and if I ate the guy from the movie The Raid.
So it's like the most Filipino Indonesian dude with the thickest thigh as possible,
just tired and gassed. And then I get knocked off the dragon. I'm
like, man ten out of ten here, guys. Yeah, I like
that. Yeah. I just like getting up on that dragon. And then
I'm like, oh wait, I can attack, and then he just takes
out a sword and she just slams it in the dragon so hard. It
feels so good. I like the pond stuff where like they clearly are learning
from you a little bit. I'm a dark Mitch follow me around and I
picked up, immediately picked up a goblin like the first Enclave of Goblin,
and I'm you know, kind of hitting it with my sword a little bit.
But then I do see a cliff and I throw it off a cliff
and Dark Bitch is like, oh Sea, I've never seen anyone do that
before. And I'm like, yeah, pretty sweet, huh. And then
we ran to another set of goblins and then this listen, that's how he
studs. And then dark Dark Bitch runs up to some goblins. It's just
like, yay, he picks up a goblin and just tosses it off.
I'm like that rules. He just said that he learned from you by watching,
and now he's doing it. You're great, Dark Mitch, so I
haven't said dark bitch into the Brian. Yet the paws need to shut the
fuck out. They talk way too much. They do talk a lot.
I think it's mostly fun silly. That's like they're like, hey, you
got a lot of guys in your in your thing, Why how about some
women. I'm like, Okay, come on, you don't have to meet
to me like the five minutes of the game. All right, I'm sorry.
On the flip side, if I'm walking around town and for the fifth
time that session, I hear, oh, look a letter. Letters usually
lead to somewhere climb that take us to new heights. Yeah, I don't
know. I think maybe because like I just enjoyed all the cross talk and
constant yelling and Zeno Blade chronicles three. Sure that like, yeah, tell
me more about ladders, y'all, y'all won't shut the fuck up? Is
cool? I my first pawn that I made. I'm I I wish games
could let you mess around more with like a pitch slider in terms of like
the voice of Ponds or your own character, because I painstakingly tried to make
bone Saw from Spider Man one, not Man Randy Savage boom shoot. But
I was gonna ask if you were making Macho Man Randy Savage earlier. It's
wild, it's who, it's who I aspire to be on a day to
day basis. I bought a slim gym yesterday. Actually, I do want
to say before we close out here, look, clearly this was not a
game for me. I'm I'm still I'm still playing a little bits again.
That's certain something. I'm hoping that it like catches on with me, because
like last night in my play session was when like the Griffin came up,
I'm like, okay, okay, we're working with something here, something's here.
I'm just happy this game got made because of all things, Dragon's Dogma
two did not need to exist, but it sooner was like yo, allahmate
this game. They're like, oh fucking hell, all right, well you're
on fire, dude, so like, sure have your game. That's just
really cool to me that this game will get mail as a fan of Capcom
series and no one fucking talks about anymore. Where's Dark Stalker's Capcom Just I
know, I know you're not gonna give me Legends three, but come on,
come on. Yeah, I agree, it seems that this game is
doing the thing that they hoped it would do, and catching out with a
whole new audience that never ever ever would have played Dragon's Dog and one people
have changed in terms of their taste and like what they expect from games,
and it seems like it's hitting at the right time in a way. A
lot of these games have recently, And I don't know, maybe I'm I
give a lot of leeway to some bad poor performance in games, but I
just absolutely dug the shit out of when your prisoner friend gets swallowed by like
the most poorly animated gift of Tentacles ever. It's like, what an explanation
for why you can't go in the water because demon tentacles will take you away?
Wasn't that like prototype or something like that prototype at something where like Tentacles
with Dragander it was like, you're an electric man, so that makes sense
and prototypes like Tentacles. But I'm very excited to play more Dragons Dogma too.
Perhaps we'll find time to stream it on this website. How do you
so can you download more pond like precreated ponds? Yeah, there's a rock
and you can and you can say, like, oh, I'm looking for
ones of like you know this type or whatever, and like you know,
friends, ponds will pop up and you can you know, try and it
brings you a binder full of pons and stuff. Or as I mentioned,
there are official pawns where his platform dependence in every pond. Here's everywhere.
But like like I said, Wooly as a pawn, Susie has a pawn,
Maximilian has a pawn. Like they they've made these characters there official and
you can summon them and that's really cool too. How do I summon Susie?
Uh? PlayStation? Yeah? Well anyway, that is dragons talk to
We'll talk, we will talk about it more more Dragons. I'm gonna play
a lot. That's when I'm playing on the webcast. And yeah, any
anyone have any other games they want to talk about? Before everybody was right
about Mario Golf for the Game Boy. Oh yeah, it was on my
analog. Played it during my travels last week. It's a great golf game.
It's a great golf Yes, it is RG too. Ye also,
uh, go ahead, go ahead, I was gonna say it just asked
an RPG, it like, is such an idea RPG for me? Where
it doesn't get in its own way. There's not a million textboxes. It's
just about going on a golf adventure and I love it. It's talking to
people at a clubhouse and going to bet that asshole. And yeah. Yeah,
those smaller linear RPGs than me and Jay we're talking about. Mario Golf
is one of those. Yeah, okay, maybe I'm gonn do it.
I'm gonna go on to Game Boy Advance. I want to play more of
than Yeah, what a huge game as a as a Mario and Mario's sports
fan that I've never played these games before. So I'm ma, did you
play Mario Tennis for Game Boy Color? No? I've just play the Ship
out of the sixty four gamecub ones. So yeah, I'm in. Yeah,
I'm in. Right, let's go shout outs to Grub during the Packs
East Gift exchange because that no one else participated in. Yeah dare you guys?
Yeah, but Grub got me the what it was, the me you.
It's a me you mini plus, I believe is what it is.
Yes, let me tell you I'm playing Tony Hawk pro Skater. Yeah,
that's what I was playing too on there. Yeah, just a game Boy
like device like that just blows my mind and not understanding how technology works.
But I played that for a bit on the plane and then I remember that
it brought my analog pocket, and Jesus Christ, I thought for the longest
time it was just nostalgia, thinking that this is like, uh, one
of the best handheld formats or whatever, like the game Boy style, but
having the game Boy style handheld with that grade of a screen and like the
shoulder buttons on it. Yes, top five piece of tech. Yeah,
like that screen is so gorgeous. Yeah, playing any anything on that crap
is like, oh my god. Like I I spent like a good like
two hours on my plane ride home, just like firing up different things of
like, oh man, look at that snowball fight. The snowball fight looks
great. Oh yeah, And then I wound up playing Stuntman again. Yeah
it's it's actually a great game. It is the one for Game Boy Advance.
Yeah, weird, and I don't know, it's just like all right
cool, like and I was missing all of the cues because I should have
headphones on, but I was still having a good time. Also, the
Tony Hawk pro Skater games on the gbay really really good. Don't sleep on
them. Damn them you Alex Bonelo for selling me your pocket. I fucking
hate you. I don't mean that, Alex. Don't cry. Well,
we'll talk about some news, perhaps some more games right after this break,
and we are back to deliver the news. Jeff Grub the news. Yeah,
yeah, this is a news with Jeff Grub BBBBB. Hello, everybody,
Let's let's do some news. I am Jeff Grub, and I have
some headlines for you, starting with Grand Theft Auto six. Production reportedly falling
behind, Rockstar urges staff to return to office to avoid delay. Grand Theft
Auto six, one of the most anticipated games, is likely to miss its
twenty twenty five ort least window due to production delays. Originally set to come
out in early twenty twenty five, sources indicated to Kataku that a late twenty
twenty five launch is much more plausible, with the possibility of slipping into twenty
twenty six as a fallback plan. Remote workers at Rockstar Games expressed frustration over
the company's sudden return to office mandate, which is reportedly impacting the games development,
and that the mandate is impacting development because a lot of people are like
I might just quit instead of going back to the office. Now. Rockstar,
for their part, believes that return the office is going to help improve
security and quality concerns, but also help get the game out more more quickly.
We'll see, who knows. It's not like a game hasn't been delayed
because when everyone was working in the office. And this is a big game
that they're going that they're trying to follow up from a massive success originally with
g t A GT five and GTA Online games that they are going to be
hesitant to replace in the market with something that isn't as good, So they're
going to probably take their time on this, and that seems like perfectly fine
to me. They probably should take as much time as they need because there
is no rush to replace GTA Online. So yeah, late twenty twenty five,
I bet that seems almost like a certainty to me, a certainty to
me at this point, even though I think internally there's still saying early twenty
twenty five is like their plan or like spring twenty twenty five, but I
can easily see this slip into twenty twenty six as well. How y'all feel
about this? Is it like something where you're like, hey, GTA six,
I need that now, or take as much time as you need.
What do you think hack as much time as y'all need? Don't want to
meet the person who's like, no, well the thing those people are out
there, I guess, but like where do they exist in the space time
continuum? Twitches? No? I mean like you're a fundamental understanding of like
time is linear time? Yeah, like you, I don't know who the
person is who's like, well, but it's been what twenty thirteen or whenever
the fuck that game came out? Like, I don't understand. Are you
a goldfish? Like? Well, I think a lot of folks just don't
have any concept of game development, right, Like they just assume like they
just flip slider that press a couple buttons and switches and then like boom,
you got a game. You just need more money, which you know,
are people like I saw the trailer late last year and that cemented something in
place for me, and people just get excited and then they want what they
want right now. You know, that's that test where life. They put
like a Snicker's bar in front of kids and like if you don't eat this,
you get another one later and like some kids just couldn't help themselves.
They had to eat the one right in front of them, and that that's
who you're dealing with. Whoa, whoa. And then they let those people
be politicians. Yes, basically yeah, like apparently this was like some great
marker for how people would do later in life or something like that. But
whatever, they are now trying to wait for the new Grand Theft Auto six
game and getting very impatient. I think that, you know, that's such
a huge audience. You're gonna get all kinds people that completely understand that they
want to take as much time as possible to make as good of a game
as possible, and people who have no idea and just want what they want
right now. As far as like how things go and turn with a rock
Star. This is the studios known for crunch and known for working their employees
to the bone. They are they're probably struggling with that here where they're like
do we go back to the old me or not. We'll see this.
This is a game that is going to require a lot more effort before it
gets goes from where it's at now to actually launching. So we'll see how
much time that's actually going to take Do you think the security thing is actually
like one of the bigger factors grub because like after that leak and then like
that kid kept trying to hack into Rockstar with like a fire stick. I
don't think that they can do much about like putting that toothpaste back in the
tube at this point, right because that like all of those processes are now
there. So when someone's like, well, okay, yeah, we go
in the office, but I actually am going to be traveling and I was
going to go to visit one of our other studios and I need to be
able to get into this stuff when I'm there, And so all of those
things that enable someone to hack externally are still going to be there. They're
still going to be available. So I mean, maybe limit the points of
weaknesses a little bit, I suppose, but I know not really, I
don't think that makes much of a difference to it at all. At the
end of the day, some publishers reportedly questioning support for Xbox amid flatlining sales,
especially in Europe. Xboxes reportably facing challenges in Europe, with third party
publishers expressing doubts about continuing support due to declining sales. According to Chris Dring,
the head of Games and Industry dop is, Xbox's performance in Europe is
flatlining. Retailers in Europe are considering or have already cut back on Xbox stock,
and third party publishers are questioning the effort required to create versions for both
the series S and X when the PC MPs five markets are more lucrative.
Microsoft has acknowledged that it has lost the console wars and is planning to bring
first party games to rival platforms, including PlayStation and or Switch. This shift
and strategy suggest that Xbox may be facing difficulties as a hardware manufacturer. Now.
Of course, we know that they've said publicly that they are going to
keep making hardware. They promised that the next gen is going to be their
biggest leap technically ever, whatever that's going to mean, so they're not like
abandoning making Consoles. Are definitely at a low point in terms of where this
system is at worldwide. I think it's probably doing all right in the United
States, but there was a time when it did all right in the United
States, and it did all right in Europe, and now it's not even
really it doesn't really have that. Yeah, I wonder if dev's might be
having the same issue that we see the general gaming audience does, where they
don't quite see Xbox's vision for the future or they don't buy into it.
Maybe so speak where this is a symptom of that for sure. Yeah,
clearly Xbox and See or Microsoft whatever you want to say, they can see
that well, the future will be in games being everywhere, gains beyond whatever
piece of hardware you already own. That is the most straightforward way into the
home. And people haven't taken too kindly to that because people want their box,
and you know, it's solwly fair if you're a console only gamer and
you want something that is just straightforward. But at the same time, some
people are downplaying the fact that games could be everywhere eventually once streaming gets better,
you know, PC gets more and more popular, have more and more
types of hardware like the Steam Deck and similar handhelds. I'm wondering if maybe
some developers are they don't quite think that things will hand that way either,
and so they're a little hesitant about making stuff for the Xbox ecosystem on the
whole. I think they. I think it's that and I think so.
I think they see the numbers of how things do now, and then they
look at that vision and they're like, we know that you need bigger games
coming out of Microsoft to sell these consoles and get people excited, and they
just haven't done that. They have not done that for years now. The
game the big games that have come out have been mostly misses when it comes
to accomplishing the goal of being something that people cannot ignore. Halo Infinite had
its issues that people were like, uh, you know, we're actually just
going to ignore this because there's enough here to make it feel like, oh,
this isn't worth my time because of whatever's happening with the ongoing content or
whatever. Even though it's a good game, Starfield. A lot of people
do like that game, but it's it's one that has had a mixed reaction,
so it's very easy for people to be like, well, I don't
need that. There's a million other great games I can play. And so
these big games that we're meant to sell xboxes just did not do that thing.
And now you have several games coming up that feel like they aren't gonna
be gonna be as big as Halo Infinite or Starfield or now it's all those
games, or Red Fall. So I think that microsofts of the situation where
they they're going to have to do with where they're going to need to do
to survive now while they slowly transition into whatever the next thing looks like,
which is going to be probably games in a lot more places, the box
being deprecated in terms of its important importance, and that transition is just going
to be difficult and look weird, and it's going to cause a lot of
situations like this where developers are like, why do we even make things for
Xbox? So, yes, it's gonna be rough for them for a few
years. I think Mass Effect Vives development team is made up of veterans by
Where reminds fans. By Where has confirmed that the team working on the next
mass Efect game consists of veterans from the original Mass EVECT trilogy. Executive producer
Michael Gamble, art director Derek Watts, creative director Parish Levy, and game
director Brennan Holmes all have extensive experience with the series. This information was previously
known. Just like this is a reiteration, this was known basically when the
game was announced in like twenty twenty, but people have since then got in
their head like this is not the same BioWare, so should I be excited
about this? And the reality is yeah, a lot of key people did
leave BioWare, and yet at the same time, a lot of people who
worked on those games are still working on Mass Effect five, and this was
them coming out publicly. I think the executive producer himself, Michael Gamble went
on Twitter to remind people, no, this is a team of people who
made Mass Effect that said, are you guys hoping Mass Effect five can or
do you believe it can recapture the magic of their original trilogy. I think
it's going to be challenging, but I think the biggest challenge was me putting
or trying to piece it together in my head, like what's Mass Effect for?
I don't remembers effect. It's like, oh and drama. And yes,
I suppose this is actually like Mass Effect seven if you count some of
those mobile games. So yeah, that's even grosser. Let's just move on
here to Larry and says it's moving on from Baldersgate to quote make a new
thing. Larryon Studio CEO s Fenn Vinke stated that the company is moving on
from Baldersgate and the Dungeons in Dragons Universe and has no plans for DLC expansions
or a sequel to the successful game. Instead, the studio wants to pursue
new creative endeavors. VNK emphasized that the decision has nothing to do with Wizards
of the Coast, the owner of the d and d IP, and that
the two entities have had a positive relationship. Larryon Studios is known for its
Divinity RPG series and aims to embark on something fresh while leaving Baldersgate with a
warm spot in it's heart. So, yeah, this is a team that
can kind of do whatever they want right now. I think this is what
they're doing. They could do whatever they want. They're going to go make
something new. Doesn't sound like they're going to make a sequel to Divinity either,
which I think is a good idea. It makes something fresh that people
can enter from like the ground level based on larry and being the star attraction
as opposed to the IP. And at the same time, when they say
it's like, hey, Wizards of the Coast is not the reason we're moving
on it didn't help. Wizards of the Coast is a pretty rough company to
work with. They did lay off a lot of people that I assume Larryan
likely worked with on making its game, And though those people being gone and
now you got to work with someone else that like probably laid a bunch of
people off that's not going to be enticing and make you want to work with
them. So yeah, maybe Wizard the Wizards of the Coast isn't like something
where it's like, oh, that's definitely the reason we're moving on. It's
probably because they can work on anything, but Wizards of the Wizards of the
Coast is probably something that they're happy to leave in the past. I would
assume. Yeah, Thizards has been having a lot of issues lately, a
ton. Yeah, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just want to get
away from all of that. Yes, I'm interested to see what they are
trying to cook up based off of hearing interviews with uh that dude, like,
oh man, you got ideas? Huh you've got idea? Is that
stuff we're not capable of doing yet? What are you thinking of? Can
you make a strand game? Finally, someone's gonna make the real Strand game
and it's finnvan k Yeah. I expect them to do something completely new and
I'm looking forward to that. I think that would be ideal for them to
kind of get away from dungeons and dragons for people who are like this system
is interesting. I've heard about it, but it's a bit convoluted for me.
I bet they could simplify some of those things and then expand all of
the possibilities possibilities that they created in Divinity and in balder Skate and make that
the emphasis instead. What if they make Mass Effect for yes, okay,
you Larry and Studios is remaking Mass Effect and Dromeda that's the headline I want
to see, yo, please uh. Capcom has responded to criticism of Dragon's
Dogma two paid DLC and performance issues. Capcom has responded to the criticism of
Dragon's Dogma twos from Dragon's Dogma two players regarding microtransactions, as well as performance
issues on PC and console. The game received mixed reviews after launch, with
only forty percent positive user reviews on Steam. Players expressed the disappointment that some
items were available as paid DLC when they should be attainable in the game for
free. Performance issues and the inability to start a new game were also reported
as a problem. When it comes to micro transactions, we talked about it
a little bit. These were things like cheats that have been available in other
Capcom games, and if people want to complain about it, of course they
should, but they are all available to like when you're playing the game.
Although I don't blame people for me still being annoyed that these things that were
once you know, cheat codes you would just put in the game, are
now things you can buy. It's not even necessarily by that codes per se.
It's like no an item I can buy at the shop in game I
can spend a dollar on in real life to just expedite that process. It's
that type of cheating. I we talked about this a little bit. I
think it's I think this reaction is naturally overblown, as all of these reactions
on the internet are now, but it's like the sore of discussion that people
are actually trying to have about this. I thought was kind of interesting where
there was the people who were saying, well, if you don't like it,
just ignore it. It's not a multiplayer game. You know, people
aren't paying to win. It's just you know, people are spending a few
bucks here or there to speed up something in a game, and you know
they have If you have more money than time whatever, the company gets more
money. So just ignore it. And then people were saying, I can't
ignore it. I don't I want to call out these bad business practices,
and I just kind of couldn't see that side of the argument because it's so
again, it's not even in the game. You need to like go to
the Steam page and go out your way to buy it or something. I
don't know. It's this type of thing has happened with I remember DMC five
was the big one where you could you could buy red orbs and people were
losing their minds. I'm like, oh, that's right. They did get
mad about that. Yeah, yeah, bro, if someone wants to spend
five bucks to void grindings, yeah, still on the five bucks. I
don't I don't care. Yeah. A lot of the outrage I've seen are
people like complaining about it but not actually coming across it of like oh and
someone will will tweet about it or something like a tweetle get shared of like
I can't believe capcom is doing this well, someone will ask them where is
it, and they'll respond, I don't actually know, Yeah, I can't
find it in the game. Is the worry that, like it's a slippery
slope kind of thing, Yeah, And it's just like, hey, these
are dark patterns and you gotta like keep your eye on you know, they're
soon you're going to be charged for more save slots or something like that.
But I think I think the worry is that it does the game. Is
the game made worse so that you're more likely to spend money on that?
I think people playing this game, the evidence suggests likely. No, but
it's it's definitely something that could happen. It's definitely something that if you start
thinking that way, you're like, maybe you see that pattern, even if
it doesn't necessarily exist. You're like, are they giving me a hard time
in this one part so that I and especially when I'm one item short and
if I just go spend a dollar, well, no, I got that
one other thing, And then they know that someone who spends a dollar is
more likely to spend ten dollars and they're just trying to get that ball rolling.
Yeah, Like it's it's definitely possible, right, like you, that's
a good point. I think there's obviously a much smarter way to have this
conversation, and it is the fact that like all this stuff is basically like
barometer gauging, right, and it's sort of like data collecting, and it's
like, fuck, this is here to see how it does, right,
and then you sort of like act on the report you get back from the
engagement on this kind of like shit, I think it's important to I think
it's important to like not glorify it, right, Like, yeah, it's
important to like do that the rug, right, Yeah, not ignore it
either. Yeah, I'm up two minds. I think that the reaction to
it online and the review bombing was an overreaction, and at the same time,
these overreactions are the kinds of things that keep publishers in check and from
doing the things that are the most extreme versions of these kinds of micro transactions,
and so in a way they are still useful and they accomplish the thing
that they need to accomplish, even though it's very Again, I look at
the reaction, I'm like, this is kind of embarrassing. People should kind
of know a little bit better about what this game actually is. Before they're
freaking out. Is there as much outrage with some MMOs where you can like
buy level skips, Like does that same like fury apply there of like,
oh well, this person's paying. People got mad about like the New Game
Plus for like a dragon infinite Wealth being in the DLC, but they weren't
as far as I could tell, not very many people were mad that you
could just buy levels for your character in that single player game. Well,
I think I think the New Game Plus thing that was egregious because that's an
actual function that was like behind DLC. No, it's bad. All this
stuff is kind of, in my opinion, kind of bad. Yeah,
to my knowledge, And I could be completely wrong about this, but from
what I've seen, at least as far as I can tell, is just
in normal game items that you can just buy an extra with real mindy is
that weird? Does it feel kind of gross? Yeah? But I don't
think it's the end of the world. I mean, I think just people
need to approach it on a case by case basis. Sorry is the term,
but just you need to look at a game for what it is.
And I just don't think what people want to see. How these micro transactions
is actually happening here. Yep. Absolutely. I think there's room for a
nuanced take on all this, and maybe that does create a little space for
these companies to take some advantage of things. But for the most part,
like, I don't think these things are hurting anybody, and there are people
out there that, like I would spend five extra dollars to get through this
EARLYI apart earlier, more quickly, so I can get to the fun stuff
later. And if they want to do that, I kind of don't want
to be in the way to stop them. Sonic Toys Party leaked basically Sonic
Fall Guys, a lait gameplay trailer from an upcoming Sonic game. Sonic Toys
Party presents a new direction for the series, resembling Fall Guys in its mobile
based gameplay. This just looks straight up like Fall Guys, but with Sonic
levels, and I think that's a pretty decent idea. Yeah, I'm surprised
other studios haven't tried to ape this idea sooner. Same, I think it's
the kind of thing we might see more of. I think it's a good
fit for Sonic too. The way. If folks peep the trailer The way
that the characters line up and pop in before a level starts is exactly like
how Fall Guys is. It's yes, wildly oneful, it's one to one.
Yes, it really is. And again whatever, it's Sonic, it's
not some this is not high art. The fact that they are just ripping
off something else to make oh yeah, I'm sorry to say it. The
fact that they're just ripping off something else to make something that feels like that,
but with Sonic stuff, sure do more of that. I'm fine with
it. Blue Fantasy versus A first, who cares? We just have Fall
Guys likes at this point, exactly a million Fall Guy likes. This is
mobile only, as we know, and Sean you pointed this out, this
is probably true. It's likely going to be Apple Arcade when it actually ends
up launching, because this is leaked. We did not get A or platforms
or anything like that. And that last Sonic three D game was Apple Arcade
on mobiles, so yeah, that's probably happening here. They probably had a
multi game deal. Uh, Day's Gone Studio IP is a new IP.
Excuse me? Is a is a live service game? This is yes,
Day's Gone Studio had had tried to make two other games before this. They
ended up getting the live service Triple A game green lighted by Sony. That's
what they're working on now, according to job listings things like that. In
between, as you're saying, after Days Gone, they tried to make two
other games. Yeah, they pitched a couple other things, and they both
were like they fizzled it. I think one of those was likely Days Gone
two. They definitely pitched that, and that was that was turned down.
Yeah, and I'm sorry to laugh. What and then, Yeah, that's
the story I wanted. Then, No one knows what else. It's probably
another you know, triple A sort of open shoulder sad dad game, right,
Yeah, just like Sun's Anarchy, dumbie. What about that? I
mean you can see how like that gets like approved, right, you could
see how like that that should work. I don't know. I remember seeing
Days Gone at e three, like seventeen or eighteen, Remember the fuck it
was in just being like, oh this the timing of this thematically is just
seemed seems redundant at that time, and the game is still a year and
a half away. Yeah, it definitely was like, oh, another zombie
game. Sure, another game where you're playing this this rough and tumble guy.
Yeah, listen Ben's studio. Of course, I have a funness for
them. They made Bubbsy three D, so I appreciate what they've done for
me. But I really kind of have no idea what I would want the
studio to be working on. I guess it's probably not a triple A live
service game, though I don't even know what that looks like. Bubbsy is
what I want? Okay, right, Grubb What if you're right Bubbsy.
What if Bubsy was riding a motorcycle, had like a beanie or a bandana,
and then just like there was a very oddly placed sex scene. Yeah,
okay, I'll say I need the way too many odd fully closed sex
scenes with Bubbzy and then I'm there, finally hands on for these conquers bad
ferd. Okay, Oh no, we need to stop talking about conquer because
I feel like we're gonna get roped into something. Yes, the first canceled
video game character, it was it Custer. Oh yeah, yes, yeah,
a little bit. Oh my god, that game director says Final Fantasy
nine references in Final Fantasy fourteen down trail are there for a secret reason a
mid remake. Reports. Final Fantasy fourteen director Nioki Yoshida has hinted at a
secret reason behind the many Final Fantasy nine references in the upcoming expansion Down Trail.
Rumors of a Final Fantasy nine remake have circulated for some time, with
various sources claiming its existence. Uh one of those, but the origin source
is the Nvidia week, which is really where all that started. And it's
like every prophecy. Yes again, almost everything else in that has been confirmed,
including Titanfall three, which people should know is actually Apex Legends. Yeah,
that's that's in. There's Titan Fall three. But so everything pretty much
has come to fruition except for final Final Fantasy nine remake, and I think
Final Fantasy Tactics remake something like that. Yeah. Uh, this is likely
happening very soon. Uh so, Yeah, I know there's some Final Fantasy
nine freaks out there that are going to be very happy. Uh. I
don't know what do you guys expected terms of the scope of a remake.
It's probably not gonna be like Final Fantasy seven remake and rebirth, right.
I want to see, well, I was talking about this earlier. I
want to see a Persona three reload style remake where it is extremely faithful instruction.
Yeah, it just you know, like scale it up a little bit,
just a little bit, because Yeah, the only reason seven is as
bay is because one of the big as freakin' media things ever, like Final
Fantasy seven, blew up in the nineties, like Pizza Hut commercials and stuff
like that. It was so big and it reached so po. That's why
they needed to do the full on remaking the style that they did for remake
and rebirth and e anything like that. Just just make a smaller one,
you know, that's fine, that's cool. Final Fantasy nine is the one
with the Jonathan Taylor Thomas looking guy, right, Yeah, yes, the
one with the tail. Yeah, okay, okay is probably Gokus. I
mean you've got a tail and you're a little boy, you're probably Goku.
Yeah. I've always been f F nine curious. It was a weird one
that I skipped. I don't know why I skipped it as a kid,
Maybe because like it wasn't a cool Zidane. Zidane wasn't a cool looking dude
like that squall was. Yeah, they went kind of back to basics.
On that one and that's why a lot of people like it because it is
that PS one era RPG just with the stylings of the Super Nintendo kind of
games. Yep. Uh, I think that this probably happens this year.
I think we probably get this game actually, but by the holiday, I
don't know. Discussing, Yeah, my god, Residentvial nine will be open
world, a leaker suggests. According to noted leaker Descullum, who has a
lot of Capcom leaks, Resident Evil nine is reportedly in development as an open
world game. Okay, this is part of so uh Dragon's Dogma two is
an open world game in the RI engine. It's the first open world game
and the RI engine. And apparently at Capcom they do this initiative when they
start something new to expand what they're doing. They do it in like three
game bursts. And Residentvial nine and the next Monster Hunter will be part of
this open world resident or ore Engine initiative, and that means Residuabal nine will
be somehow an open world game. Is this something you guys want? Do
you think it could be good? What do you think it looks like?
I'm my instant reaction is I don't want that the way that Emma was you
and were breaking it down yesterday of like, Okay, maybe if like the
big monsters stick to their specific zones or whatever, and then you can come
across them there and that's when you have like the tailored levels and encounters.
Okay, but I don't I don't want like a nemesis like thing running after
me through Oh is that that's the thing you you you sort of fear out
of the gate with hearing that. I mean just because Dragon's talking with two
does have this ability to like the enemies will follow you across the land.
Now if you get far enough away, they'll lose interest. But they don't
have like a zone usually that they're soldier game sean. Hell yeah, regardless,
I feel like has been able to reinvent itself every year four and you
know, like I don't want to, uh, you know, I want
to give them the benefit of the doubt. They've done it before, like
every resident evil thing made by them, remake or new entry in the last
half a decade more better part of a decade. All right. I was
waiting for that qualifier because anyt think Backlar was gonna hop on the ri six
grenade easily. No, of course not of course not I'm not I'm not
delusional, but like, yeah, like they really can do no wrong.
You have to have faith, have to trust that a little that like they've
earned that equity for sure. Yeah, And also we don't know what open
world means in this context, because my first reaction was like I was actually
thinking like Uncharted four, where maybe you're playing as like Rose driving around the
UK countryside and there's like little you know, creepy huts and villages and stuff
that you need to like go and inspect, and yeah, there's a zombie
hiding in the floorboards or something like that. But then I also thought,
well, wait a second, open world can just mean a city at some
point the Giant Bomb chat, what if you're if it's like an older game
or prequel sign and you're just in Raccoon City and it's open world Raccoon City.
I mean the as linear as like all the other games have sort of
been. You still can go back, like, you still can move around
those maps in a way that you know is the experiences for sure. Yes,
So I think it's going to be something totally It's gonna look informed by
Dragon's Dogma two. Yeah, I mean that's fine, whatever, I just
uh yeah, I mean plus and as much as like it'll probably build upon,
you know, something like what Village was right with the Village was like
the four bosses, right, and then like, yeah, like do that
plus a ton of that is still going to have your like hallways in your
areas and all that ship that makes resident Evil Resident Evil. You're probably gonna
come across a mansion actually a mini or something like that. Awesome excited get
Let's let's do this baby first, third person first. I'd like that.
That's right, That's right. The new ones are first, Yeah, keeping
if anyone there first, Yeah, keep. You like the option and they
put the option in seven in Village, and I like being able to go
between both. That's true. I they like doing well, I mean,
they like doing Rules of Threes apparently, but they like doing trilogy stuff.
So I assume this would be closer. Installis set. Yeah. Microsoft has
reportedly reached an agreement with crash Bandicoot dav Toys for Bob for a new game.
Microsoft has reportbly reached this agreement. They the Toys for Bob left Microsoft
after the acquisition from Activision, which was a weird thing. This is there
was a bunch of layoffs that hit Toys for Bob as well as a bunch
of other studios, and then there was some talk that Toys for Bob was
going to get shut down, and instead of getting shut down, they left
Microsoft and are now an independent studio. But they immediately made this deal to
make a game for Microsoft. So it's this weird Okay, you're with us
and now you're not with us, but can you will pay you to make
something? Why this needed to happen? I don't fully understand. I'm sure
that this there's beneficial reasons, like obviously getting people off your payrolls what Microsoft
wanted. I suppose now they're paying them immediately, so I guess that's cheaper.
Hopefully the studio will be able to take on other jobs as well to
pay the bills. They are likely here going to be making what they're good
at. According to these reports, it's going to be something like a three
D platformer. What do you guys want to see them make? The Microsoft
not a big crash guy, Well yeah, but they are. They listened
to Microsoft owns Banjo Kazuy. They they made the spiral games. Spiral games.
I'm also not a crash. I'll take another Banjo Kazui. Yes,
so I mean that's you know that, would they could Spiro? Yeah,
I would take Banjo or Spiro over Crash. Yes, Crash four is good.
That's the only good Crash game. Well. I liked U three.
Yeah, you're allowed to do. I really played one. I heard four
was good. All right, yeah you should plase. What about what what
about we get crash and Banjo? What about? What about or what about
crashes in the backpack? Yeah like that. I feel like a crash,
you know, unlikely friends, you know, I like it? Yes?
Do they both wear shorts? But I think shorts crashes John Cena Yeah,
yes, yeah, George shorts, tasteful capris. Yeah, okay, so
just pre pants for everybody. I saw someone in one of the chats mentioned
cameo. Is it cameo? Elements of power? That's rare? Is that
rare? That's rare? But is not going to go back to Cameo?
No? I realized that, but like someone go back to cameo? Right?
Yeah? But going to rare to go back to cameo? Shot that
cameo? What would you want from a new Spiral game. Honestly, kind
of just going back to what those first three games were, you know,
level by level, kind of supplatform, but fully closed sex scenes with the
dragons. Yeah, Christ sorry, Spiral the motorcycle or the Spiral ride a
motorcy matter? Oh, Spiral's both? Baby. You know what you know
I discovered recently is a Blinks is a reference to when a Bobcat and a
Lynx a mate, they have a cat called a Blinks. That's yeah,
yeah, that's what. Yeah. I just thought it was a time I
thought you're blinking through Yeah, yeah, but I think that it's a player.
It's one of them double entendre. What am I saying? Dude?
Blinks Blinks was underrated? That those games a rule underrated? I played Blinks.
I played Blinks? Is bad? Is it bad? Oh? You
have already have two more blank Club games. Never mind, I don't think
that'd be blank Club. I don't think it's quite Blake Club. Now,
please tell me if this was good or bad. It was a PS two
platform er. I think it was in a claim joint. Unleashed. You
were like a your rabbit, Yeah, weird weasel in a rabbit. I
think, yeah, there was like a science experiment and it or something.
I think that games don't quick. Was it like this movie fled Were they're
handcuffed together? Yeah? They were. They were cuffed together. Okay,
so like knuckles chaotics or whatever that was unleash. It's betther than I remember
it. Oh okay, all right, never mind, because I was thinking
of like, oh, it'd be funny to it's like handcuff Mike Manatti to
like a weasel. So this is very fun. Wait, so this is
Did you talk a little bit about the relationship between Toys for Bob and Microsoft,
Like aren't they ultimately what we talked about? No, but I'm just
saying, like, how does that work? How does what work? I
mean, they are they Toyster Bob was part of Microsoft after the activission next
acquisition, Toyster Bob has now left to be independent and they are now an
independent studio. But they've made a contract deal to make a game. So
yeah, I wonder like how the machinations all that kind of I do,
Like I said, I don't understand why that needed to happen. Why how
it's beneficial not to just have Toyster Bob working for Microsoft making this game.
I don't know why this happened. It's Xbox, it's not That's why it's
weird. But I know this is especially a big thing in like Japanese game
development, where they just get tired of a company and so developer will leave,
but then they'll stay on as a contractor Trausingly, what's happening here just
you know, the entire freaking studio is now like contracted because they just want
their into posits to do other stuff if they want to. It seems possible,
all right, last a story here, Final Fantasy sixteen. It's final
DLC. Got to release date. Final Fantasy sixteen's second post re release a
DLC, The Rising Tide, will be released on PlayStation five on April eighteenth
for twenty dollars. It's part of the expansion pass you get at that.
But then they'll be known with Final Fantasy sixteen. I was in the room
when Ben Star helped that team announce that they were People were freaking out.
I don't know if people like Final Fantasy sixteen. So he was wearing a
shirt that said baby girl, So there you go. Can that's true?
That's true? Am I? Like the only person around here who actually likes
sixteen. I thought you like fell off of it a little bit. Did
you see it through? I saw it through. Uh. I think it
became less Kingdom heartsy than I was led to believe. But the combat was
great throughout. I thought it was very fun, very yeah. Hell yeah,
Tar Rules. It's a very fun action game. As an RPG,
obviously less so, but it's solid. I gets solid. I think it's
sorry. I enjoyed what I played of it, but I definitely fell off
pretty early, like the first two hours. I enjoy Ben Starr's line delivery
of saying the name Joshua. It's like Joshua Josh. I think about Joshua
a lot. Anything he says is fucking cool, especially josh I had a
mini espresso today, Joshua, oh Man, that silk. That does it
for the news and the shows. Once again, your I am going to
take it and I'm going to put it to bed because it's been a little
bit naughty. It's been a little bit nasty. And then we're going to
read some emails from you, the folks at at home sweet and we have
returned to read emails emails Podcast joint bom dot com is the email addressed to
send your emails to. You can write in about any and everything. If
you want to avoid awkward social interactions at a public gathering and want to pretend
you're texting someone, send us an email. If you have questions, yeah,
I just send them in. Oh yes, Jeff, I won't say
who. I won't say who. Okay, but somebody you said who twice
now though, Well that's a hint. Now it was our friendly apwl.
No. Uh, someone at PAX told me a story that they were fake
phone conversing to avoid talking to someone and it blew up in their face.
Oh no, they got caught. They got caught because like their phone's on
screen, like went on and the person realized that they were talking to nobody.
Way to help me, Jeff with the fun. No, it was
awesome. I'm sorry. I just wanted to blow up that person's spot.
I'll maybe hear about it later. Anyway, Please continue with your emails,
and I swear to god I shouldn't have said it last week, but please
stop signing our email address up for random mailers. I fucked out, and
then by saying it again, chan I realized I fudged up. Have you
learned nothing? I've learned nothing from my time. But the first email comes
from Brian from Kentucky. Y'all don't even know how unhinged Misted lare gets.
I don't. I won't get into too much detail, but basically, these
are components within miss Lure. One, there are books that allow you to
travel between worlds. That's not word two. These books were initially created by
the Dani, a human like species who lived in a giant cavern city underneath
New Mexico until a couple centuries ago when they wiped themselves out with a bio
weapon. This is just Mormonism. Oh, I wrong email address. Sorry.
Number three. Every universe parentheses called an age was created by being written
into a book. The day came to our world via such a book,
meaning our world was written by someone else. Number four. The miss games
canonically exist within the Misted universe. The idea is that the games are based
on actual records of events, but nobody knows this. Number five. There
is a Missed tabletop RPG unwritten. Number six, a more recent Cyan game,
Abduction, is canonically part of the Missed universe. Within that game,
you can find a copy of Unwritten. It all gets very much. A
Missed universe pageant is about or is that something different? I'll defer to Mike.
Mike. Mike's a misty boy, right, Yeah, Okay, I
see well, I think he likes I think he likes Missed. I don't
know if you ever played Riven, I played Missed? Do you remember any
of this? Jeff Negative? I do think you had to play beyond miss
really to get a lot of this stuff, because there's like several sequels to
Mit to miss and I think they really get into this, and then there's
books and all this other stuff. It's yeah, it's wild. Yes,
Pissed was also a game. Yes it was. The Peace stands for piss.
What I'm saying is that the difference between Missed and Alan Wake is tone.
Brian from Skentucky's I say Alan Wake in like four times in this email
above and below it says alan Wake. So I feel real cool about that.
Y'all ever have any interest in playing Missed or continuing to check out Missed?
I like that thing, like I enjoy the I guess like it's scratched
that similar tomb Raider itch for me back then where it was just like completely
obscure, impossible puzzles that don't make any sense. And that's when I played
missed. It's it's not a dewey game, right, doesn't seem like a
dowey game looking game. I'm a When y'all were saying dewey game, I
thought you meant like like, like, like, what, no, you're
doing missed. There's hockey, and there's dewey hocky dewey. Yeah, clicky
soaking, Yeah, it's misty. Get it missed. The only thing I
have on my mind now is y'all missed. Y'all miss anyway? Right?
The Hall and Oates cover that game, of course. Yeah, that's the
third one, right. I don't know how many missed games are. Because
you're missed, you are a missed. Next email comes from I didn't write
the person, but the subject reads favorite Simpsons quote If you need inspiration,
I have three kids and no money. I'd rather have no kids and three
money. Very good. Someone brought that up over the weekend, that exact
quote, so that's pretty good. My favorite one is one that I think
is a lot of people's favorites. It's when Homer's trying to get mister Burns's
mail from the post office, and the clerk at the mail center the post
office tells Homer like, Okay, mister Burns, I just need your first
name. What's your first what's your what's your first name? There, mister
Burtons Hos just goes, I don't know. That's funny, no matter how
old you are. So that's up there for me. An underrated one that
I like is when the school bus goes to Shelby bill and the kids are
acting up or something, and these Shelby Billions are like, uh no,
it seems like Springfield's got to just one problem, and the other one goes,
yeah, maybe that's why we beat him at football nearly half the time.
Nearly half the time. As as you said, an underrated one,
that's the one that came to my mind as well. So, yes,
that's such a good one. Nearly half the time. There's so many good
ones. I haven't watched a lot of Simpsons, but someone will just say
one. It'll be so commonplace. I don't even think of it as the
Simpsons, you know. Sure, yeah, like nothing at all. He's
it's like wear nothing at all, nothing at all. Like that was just
become so commonplace that I don't even attribute it that to Simpsons anymore. There's
a classics like, uh, Lisa needs braces and all that that that gets
stuck in my head from time to time. But my bones are so brittle,
but I always drink plenty of milk. Malk that why Ben says milk
milk? Maybe? Oh my god, sorry, just like a glass shattering
moment for me. The ones that like occur like the pop in my head
for no perceivable reason. Is stuff like the the Muppet, like what's the
up? Well it's not quite a mop and it's not quite a puppet,
but oh boy, answer your question. I don't know, like like that,
Like I don't know. I think about that one all the time,
but it's never relevant to anything. I feel like I missed out because for
whatever reason, not that my parents didn't allow me to watch The Simpsons,
but I just didn't watch it growing up, Like I remember, I like
what Sewan you're saying, just I know a couple of the cultural touchtone ones,
but like, yeah, I did not watch a lot of it at
all. I feel like the golden Age of Simpsons kind of happened before we
were all just to be interested in. Right, pretty good again. Yeah
it's twenty years, but it got pretty decent again. Super eyepatchwal did a
video recently like it's back, It's It's good again. It's a good video.
When Chief Wigham is trying to radio in his location during the film in
Louis episode and he's like, I'm directly under the earth sun. Now what
episode is it where Homer's like stupid sixty Flanders at all? Yeah, okay,
yeah, I want to big a Futurama kid, but probably never seen
an episode. I thank you. I think I think I would too.
I think I would. Of course you would. Why wouldn't I am the
future? Almost kind of like the American dad to the Simpsons family guy.
It's kind of just a different tone, different type of humor. So I
like it a little bit more. It breaks my brain to think that way,
but you're right correct. Next email forgot to write the emailer's name,
but they write in high bombers. Oh there they go, Anthony from Raley
here. Recently, I've discovered that my preference for toggle aim seems to be
pretty strange. Both the Finals and hell Divers too have had bugs relating to
toggle aim, and when mentioning it to some friends I play games with,
I have found that I'm literally the only one in my friend group who doesn't
hold the right mouse button to aim and instead sets it to toggle. Yeah.
I don't know how many how that became my preference, but I'm willing
to bet the first shooter I played probably use toggling, and then at that
point got burned into my brain. Do you have any other strange control preferences?
Yes? What the hell does shoot mean? Come on, don't even
ask Anthony. It means that's it. That's it. I've always it's not
really a control preference as much as a layout thing. But I've always preferred
like the X and square combat buttons to the like more traditional now like Dark
Soul style R one R two, Like I'm that Devil May Cry Generation was
like that, that's where you hit with in an action game. It was
really weird to me the first time I saw like R one R two,
But like that is becoming like the norm now, which I get it.
Yeah, for mouse and keyboard, I would always bind F to reload instead
of R for some reason, I don't know why. It's probably like a
counter strike thing, and uh the yeah, the the whole toggle aim to
me breaks my brain. I don't even I never, I would never.
That made more sense to me when they said that they were on mouse,
because while I was saying controller, I was like, what are you doing?
Why would you do that? But mouse? That makes a little more
sense. I used to toggle Z targeting for Zelda, and now I think
I hold. So a lot of games, a lot of games these days,
it is a toggle to lock onto something. You press the button and
you like clicking the right stick and now you've toggled into Z targeting basically.
Yeah, even in like Akarina, you could choose between those two. And
I think I used to toggle and I think now I hold. Okay,
both makes sense in their own way. Yeah, I'm fine with ye for
that. Were you guys like me in like the nineties and or in early
two thousands, So I guess you know, Sewan Jan just to shut up
for a thirty second time, I feel like in ninety one, Yeah,
I'm sure that. I'm sure, okay, buddy. I bound everything to
my mouse like I was convinced that, like my eleven button mouse, I
was just gonna play like games one handed basically, you know, with one
behind my back, like I don't know, I had to do it.
And then I go, yeah, the MMO mouse with like the numb padd
we basically has the like a whole numb pen on the side. No,
I just I would get those mice with like they were like Logitech mice,
and they were probably for like you know, again, I feel like gaming
mice were a thing. But like I was like, oh, this is
used for like productivity or something, and I would be like, no,
it's not. It's going to be used for every button conceivable in max pain
And that's what I would do. And I always would just wind up,
like you know, breaking away from it for a while because it's just just
the way to play video game. I did art, yes that way,
like Red Alert, you know, I have all my different control groups instead
of be like okay, you're my planes and you're my tanks. Yeah.
Yeah. When I used to play a lot of League, I had like
a mouse button with like a mouse with like five buttons that I'd be a
freaking map a bunch of crap to. Yeah, man, it's fine to
break it, you know. I don't really have anything like that. But
this is my first opportunity to blow up a Jeff Grubb for being an absolute
psychopath. So when you're holding a video game controller, okay, yeah,
usually you have your thumbs on the left stick and the right stick. Yes,
and if you want to say, jump or reload or interact with something,
you move your right thumb over to the buns for a second. Don't
tell me he's doing left hand No, no, no, finger point point
do you move his thumb the right stick? I just I barely do.
I kind of roll up rocks his thumb over while keep it on the stick.
Yeah that's wit now what Okay, Okay, listen, I'm not like
I'm not like keeping on the very top. I'm just like usually hitting these
buttons with like the side of my thumb so I can get back to the
stick very quickly. Why not just move the thumb, bro have you if
you can do it, I'm trying to like get as many of the buttons
to fall underneath my thumb in the first place. So ide, Hey,
if you're detrous enough to do this, because I'm like spinning it like this,
that's not what it looks like. I just don't do the Benny Caravella
with the sixty four and hold it like this and go on it. That's
why it's a pitchfork. I thought you were going to say that you use
your like right index finger somehow hold in? Are you serious? Wait?
I didn't like had sixty four growing up? Is why only hold it like
this for the wrestling games? Every other game you do here? Oh?
Yeah, I didn't. I don't know that either, because I never had
a sixty four as demonstrated in denote And how are you with? You areating
the button? Yeah, the s button. You know they're doing. Don't
even know what that means. Boom boom boom. It's a trigger and I
don't know what that means. We didn't make it that way. The story
there is that analog sticks were new, and so they didn't know if analog
sticks would stick around, and so they designed it in a way where if
it wasn't popular, you could just switch over a deep end and just completely
forget that. But it also was like it also was it only had like
eight directions too, right then it weren't They grew along the plastic like you
could not. It was pretty sixty just it had grows to help you get
in the got you got you add on a lot of systems. Yeah,
yeah, I don't know, so I play inverted because it also like,
yeah, but people need to like put stuff in context, like what was
happening in the nineties. Well, no, that's the thing. Like flight
sims were the thing people would talk about when they were talking about having like
analog control in video games, when we first started getting analog controls on consoles
and stuff like that. So it was like this big thing where it's like,
no, you're supposed to play inverted like a yoke, You're supposed to
pull back to go up. And that was like and so if you look
at those games like Mario sixty four controls that way. A lot of early
in sixty four games and even GameCube games it just had inverted controls as default
because they just assumed that's the way you should do it. And I played
all of those games, and that's why I play inverted. I just can't
can't go back now. So yeah, anyone your age, it's absolutely Mario
sixty four. Yeah, Mario sixty four is definitely the big one. Yes,
absolutely, But like I was like remembering these conversations happening going into Mario
sixty four, and so for me, it was like the most normal thing
in the world, never even questioned. In fact, I was like,
no, yeah, that's the way we should be doing things. Of course
I like flight sims, right, that's the big game. So yeah,
you guys, I feel like all of this Mario sixty four talk just starting.
No, no, no, no, no no. I just need
to say this because like I need to. I need everyone to like experience
with experience to understand you need to unpack what's going on in my mind right,
Like lately, like things have have just triggered very lucid memories for me.
I don't know what it is. Maybe you know, I don't know.
I've reached the point in my life where I can't make any new memories.
I have no idea. I uh, I'm mocking traumatic experiences. Yeah,
yeah, I think that might be it if kind of traumas maybe agreed
to be like never kill a man with the game. Just imagine that Dreamcast
controller wrapped around someone's neck. No uh, I think, like, uh,
not having of sixty four was like a big deal for me. I
was like very upset that I didn't I don't know what a lesser person,
but yeah it maybe it devalued my personal stock, right, like I think,
right? And I and I never really played anything on time. I
didn't play uh a Mario Card, sixty four or Golden Eye until college,
which I guess was like right, a little after when did sixty four come
out in ninety eighty six? Ship? So I didn't. I didn't graduate
high school to two thousand. So you know I'm playing this game. I'm
in college, I'm trying to make friends, I'm trying to come out for
you. Yeah, and there I am, like to college. There,
I am holding a sixty four controller for the first time, being like,
well I got this, no problem, Yeah, miss much man. Yeah
that's what. It's a good system, these goddamn kids. No, no,
there's like ten incredible first party game and not much else. Guess what
That was true for the Super Nintendo as well. I love Super but I'll
take sixty four oward any day of the week. The high link to the
past link the past, Super Metroid Mario World three of the top top top
top top top games of all time, but the final Fantasy four and six
and Krono Trigger just immediately I'm on the right. That's my memory of that.
But in an episode, in an episode where I'm gonna get fucking canceled
for all my bad tastes today, you are the one in the wrong here,
buddy. Everyone will agree with me on this. I had friends.
I played multiplayer games on the end sixty four. Yeah, that is when
I had friends. Was a big part of that. Yeah, that's weird.
I did always think he was messed up being on the other side of
the console fence of having a p S one and thinking like, I can
only play with one other person. You guys can play with three's. We
did that, I mean, because we didn't have all the big single player
games. Really so interesting. I'm glad I had this conversation with you guys.
Thanks. You should get you Do you want me to get you in
in sixty four? I'll send you an in sixty four, like a physical
one. Yeah. I feel like I have many things that just play all
that stuff, Like what like the controllers, the real controllers, so that
you can actually hold one for real now and actually learn how to hold it.
Would I even be able to plug it into something well, you have
to get like a retro tank or something. Oh Christ, here we go.
Yeah, I was gonna ask y'all, sorry, I'll give you my
retro tank five X and I'll expense a poor k How does that sound?
There you go? Does that even mean? Don't worry better? No?
The expensive stuff bit me in the ass this weekend. Okay, so no,
my answer is no bringing the hammer down. No, I expense my
gambling. By the way, thanks for that, appreciate it. Well,
then I'm entitled to a little bit of that take. Actually it's not me,
but we don't have to talk about that. My gosh, if I
were to try and revisit the Nintendo sixty four, y'all think I would need
to have like the actual controller versus like, no, you don't games,
but but there are the games where you're like, why the hell where is
this fucking button in your but why is it up on the right stick?
Yeah, because the sea buttons. Everybody, they basically treat the sea buns
with the A and B buns. That's like a six controller in some games.
So he most games, you're fine if you just like plug a game
cube controller through the adapter. The switch one. The switch one's good,
the switch six, which one's great. The wireless switch one is great,
So I would just use that with whatever you're playing on. Have y'all seen
how like pro tetris players will like use the controllers do the rocking thing skyscraper.
Yeah, I think that's wild. Yep, Mega tapping or whatever,
Mega tapping all right? Next email they got two more Here comes from Aron
Hey best bombs. Aaron here from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, asking about the
origin of your names. I'm sure we all had pop we all had popped
that question to our folks at one point, and I bet there is a
fun story behind the careful consideration or lack of when we all came into this
world. A lot of names are based off of what's hot in entertainment during
the time. But I was thankfully lucky enough to have tactics and driven parents
who had planned out a name not that not only appeased the Catholic side of
the family, but was also borderline impossible to make fun of at the schoolyard
well until Key and Peel went ahead and made everything difficult. Regardless, being
an Aaron in Wisconsin had its ups and downs. Looking forward to the tails
Aaron for Jeff there's nothing interesting for that. But they almost named me in
nineteen eighty three, so this would have been a year before anyone knew about
him. They almost named me Jordan Michael Grubb, and so my name would
have been Michael Jordan. That would have been really weird, I think.
So. Yeah, I don't named Jordan. Sorry, all the Jordan's out
there, you would have been okay. Yeah, I famously hate the name
Jeff. Yeah, I don't know. I don't. I don't really like
Jeff either, But I think Jeff is, like I said, I said,
a fun name to yell, Right, we talked about this very yes,
very comedic name to yell, but beyond that, I have no affinity
for it. Uh. Yeah, I don't know the origin I think my
I know I'm saying the origin of the name Jeff. I don't know what
it means. I don't know anything about it. I know I was named
that after a relative, and then and my middle name too, which is
equally as disliked by me. So I'm doing fine. Sorry, mine's all
Catholic stuff. My family got Mary's, Paul's, Dan Daniels, Joe's.
Yeah, so yeah, a lot of Catholic stuff. Sean. Mine was
too, because I'm Irish and Mexican and it was a question of which side
of the family do we lean into and for what reason? They were hung
up on John to lean into the Catholic Mexican side of things, but then
for what reason why to switch to the Irish side things? And apparently Sean
is the equivalent of John. You know, Sean John. You can't talk
about Sean John right now? Cut that cut. Supposedly I was named after
the nurse and doctor Delctor, doctor that de Loctor that delivered me. Uh,
except the doctor is not a Jan. He was a Yawn. But
my parents couldn't say yawn, so they just pronounced Jan. To this day,
I've never heard either of my parents call me Jan. It's only ever
been Jerome. I don't know why, but fun fact, there is a
generation of Filipinos around our age that are named Jan Michael after Jan Michael Vincent,
Like J Michael, who's that? Who's He's like an eighties action star
or a movie star. I like there was a whole him. I don't
know. Oh my god, Yeah, that's the mega from a Wolf.
Yeah, oh, I don't Filipinos loved a Wolf Yo had a very very
distinct impact. I don't know, I don't know who this is. Uh
oh, you know, speaking about Filipinos. It's funny the karaoke place,
the tiki bar we went to. Within the giant karaoke booklet, there was
a page dedicated to like, hey, Frank's the Frank Sinatra murders and the
Philippines were serious cool, that's it, and there it was just like,
what a weird thing to put into a karaoke book. Yeah, to take
up a page. I am not familiar with the Frank Sinatra murders. My
way, yes, yes, exactly. Basically, the Philippines, Filipinos take
karaoke very seriously. It's an Olympic sport that I fail at tremendously all the
time. And if you toast you crushed, you crushed your jay z at
karaoke, you did very well, So shut up, thank you, thank
you, grib. I appreciate it. Basically, Like you know, my
way is just like on a holy grail of karaoke songs. So if you
choose to sing it, and you sing it poorly, you would get Okay,
this doesn't sound familiar. Don't like, don't invoke Frank Sinatra if you're
not gonna do it well, geez. I have just think memories of like
being at a bar with my pops. I don't know why I was at
the bar. Someone chose to sing it, singing it very poorly. A
couple other Filipino gentlemen stood up like I stopped singing it and high tailed out
of the bar. So well. Then last email comes from Lexi Luddy,
who I don't know. I don't know. I've never heard that name before.
Subject reads weird convention stories. Hey Bombers, Lexi from Ireland with packs,
having just passed in Summer game Fest entering the Horizon. I'm curious if
you have any fun convention stories from your early days in the industry when you
were finding your feet. My second ever appointment at Anything was a demo and
interview with Eric Chahi, out of This World developer for his VR game paper
Beast. Problem was I literally never used a VR headset before outside of those
cardboard headsets. He puts your phone into the booth for the demo is about
two meters by two meters and three of us had to stand in it with
a TV in PS four. He was so hot and disorienting that by the
time the demo ended and they asked what questions I had, I was so
nauseous I almost threw up on his shoes, mumbled, do you have any
a planned release date? And excuse myself to run to the bathroom. See
you in La lexwins Damn. I did an interview with Jeff Green when he
just went to PopCap at a pas and he was very kind. He gave
me this interview. We talked about stuff, and we were started talking about
PopCap and I basically asked a question in such a way that it would like
kind of if he answered, it would kind of force him to say whether
or not PopCap was going to start making free to play games with micro transactions.
And he answered it, and I'm like, that's the story. I
wrote that, like, hey, no, look, he's basically saying it
that there's going to be free to play games from PopCap going forward, and
he got in a lot of trouble at work, and it made me feel
very bad because I'm a huge fan of Jeff Green, and so I felt
very bad. Now turns out they made free to play games with micro transactions
immediately after that, so it was all true, but yeah, it was
like not interviewing Jeff Green to get him in trouble. So I remember every
time after. I remember actually we always had a planel later later where like
he was going to be part of it, and he was telling it to
Patrick Kleppik and basically they like turned around in like a gesture toward me,
and I was like, I'm sorry, Jeff, I didn't mean it.
And yes, that was like one of my first pacts. Yeah, I
think it was probably like eight. It was like the Wei era and I
forgot to pack underwear to E three and in front of the convention Center.
So I'm walking around just you know, Jean's on and it's very uncomfortable.
It's the summer, it's la and you were going you were going that way,
that way, like you weren't wearing underwear. Correct. I forgot to
pascause there was nothing you could have done. No, no, So I
go, you know, to the convention center and just wearing what I got
and they had a giant toilet out front, like a twenty five put toilet
for like Raymn Raving Rabbits TV party or something like that, and they had
the gimmick was you throw a piece of swag and was back when they were
swag into the toilet and if you can make it like a basketball shot,
you won Rayman boxers. And I was like, perfect, I haven't even
walked into the you agree yet and a solution to my problem? And I
walked up, damn luck, and I walked up and I asked the guy.
I was like, hey, hey, could really uh really use those
boxers I have. You've gone to the convention center yet, you mind?
Uh? Can I just get some of those boxers? And he's like he's
is clearly some guy hired by, like, oh, yeah, no,
they got to throw the swag in. You get the boxers, you get
the box I was like, yeah, yeah, I get it, but
I just I could use some right now. And I haven't been in there
yet to get swag? Is there any chance I could just get some?
And he's like, no, no, you can't. I said, listen,
I'm gonna level with you, dude. I forgot I forgot to bring
underpants. I need underpants and he just positive, sorry, I got put
swag in. You get something like gradually, like walking around the show floor,
like grabbing ship, like swagging posters and T shirts and stuff going back
out and just shooting it like an asshole. Got it, went inside,
put them on. Oh man, I got the boxers, but like I
wish I could have just been hand you know each time going out of the
conventions that are just passing an old navy as well. Well, I don't
know what that's gonna do. Yeah, So did you just have the one
pair? Dan? No? I think I threw a bunch of swag in
there, and I kept going back like they're changing shifts. I'll go up
now you rabbits boxers in your home. No, I got rid of those
at some point. It's just you were just like it's not Larry David adjacent.
It's just you are just I don't know. There's as Kramer mm,
which is the character Cramer? Yeah? I think Michael Richards. Yeah,
yeah, everyone guys with that for sure. Yeah. I don't know.
The first SGF, I ripped my pants really bad and I didn't bother to
buy new pants, and it was a really awkward crotch rip. And then
like this was you did bother to buy pants, you just didn't actually commit
to buying pants. Can you go out to buy pants? No? Tam
and I like, we're like dead set, we're gonna buy pants tomorrow,
we're gonna stream it. And then we just didn't buy pants tomorrow, and
I just had to keep like my my my walk very uh yeah, and
I remember, uh like this was when we had made the big shift and
everything, and Tam and Lucy tell me like, all right, mate,
Bruce Green's gonna interview us on Twitch and We're going to talk about like the
new changes to joint ball and stuff. I'm like, oh, no,
okay. And then I told Bruce before we went on on airs, like
yeah, man, I just ripped my pants, so yo. And then
he immediately talks about me ripping my pants, and then my cousin and was
watching the stream and then it is strict close up on my ripped pants.
It's good times anyway. That does it? For emails, BombCast to chime
bomb dot com is the email address to send your emails to. What do
we got going on the rest of this week, folks? More Game of
Mornings from Wednesday, Thursday to Friday. Another epode to get back in the
Superman mind. Super Damn the Dan of Steel. That's right to play more
of that. You are more than halfway through. I am oh, I've
been making good progress. We shot heard around the world. Last episode is
still weighing heavily on my soul, but we're gonna keep going. Do you
think the new wig is affecting your playing skill? Has it helping you out?
Feels like it's got to train you know, the old like phrenology gimmick
where it's like they would put the calibers in here head and stuff like that.
It feels like it's got all those inside of it. So it's like
feels like there's just pointy things all over my head. I don't know if
it's activating my brain in bad ways, but it's better than the hair getting
in my face and between my headphones, and so like the new hair,
I like better. Yeah good, Yeah. I wish you brought the wig
to packs. Huh. I can't afford to look ridiculous. Jeff fair enough,
who can argue with that dumb dumb truck. We'll have UPF, We'll
have BCR, We'll get all that stuff figured out and put on the site
for you, maybe some other stuff in between. We're gonna probably have a
bunch of stuff on UPF. So maybe I'll try to play Dragons Dogma on
the site. Sometime before that, Yeah, someone sent me another casino roguelike
game involving dice and uh slowly being destroyed. It's it's set outside of a
casino, so we're kind of okay here. Yeah, that's what means.
My dad tried Bilatro and he said he's very confused because it's not how poker
works. So cool. Yeah, that sounds like the right. Yeah,
yeah, fantastic phantom. Get on a FaceTime with them and try to help
them. We'll see if you you should stream that if you were able to.
If not able to attend Packs East, no worries, We had the
panels recorded. The archive for voicemail Dump Truck Live at Packs soliciting video mails
from you the folks at the show floor is now up on the website as
well as dan docodare live. H Fortunately you know that I couldn't see all
the gameplay, but I still feel like you'll be able to get the message
across. Also, if you missed the beast Cast reunion, never been a
better beast cast. That is also on the beast cast feed. If you're
still subscribed there, you can find it there as well. As on the
Next Lander Patreon special shots out to the Nasty Boys, all the fun folks
that attended the panels lined up, checked out the panels, stayed around after
to hang out. Love y'all. Y'all are the best audio in gaming.
As a Jeffrey Grub says often because it's true against shouts out to Tom,
shouts out to Dan and Nikki were putting together Dan Doco Dare, and shouts
out to the secret tunnel. I guess secret tunnel was wedding. Everyone's like,
this tunnel kind of stinks, and then it started raining, and guess
what everyone was doing using my secret tunnel? The todamn right. The tunnel
was huge, okay, but getting there was rough because getting to like if
you went to the convention center, you didn't want the chunnel. The chunnel,
but it was better in the rain, it was still better. Oh,
I was you know him a pro chunnel guy. Yes, you never
spoke ill of the channel, and I appreciate that. Only Dan did mine?
Was it? I think I think Lucy was underwhelmed. She basically apologized
to me basically as good as she bas was like begging me to use the
chunnel and I had to come around and say to me please. Yeah.
Like, folks, that is about it for the Giant BombCast. I've been
channed, he's been Jeff, He's been Jeff, he's been Dan, he's
been Turbot Shawn and you at home have been doing great. Remember to drink
water, Go stretch. Have you made your life a little bit more whimsical?
Go skip it a forest and if there's no forest near you, go
look on Google Maps. It's something green. The CD I USB controller and
yeah, go buy a CDI controller. I don't know. Go go drink
some coconut water, hydrate or die drate. We hear John bodcast Sweppy johnp
BombCast is brought to you by a bunch of hooligans and we'll see you next
