<v Speaker 3>He'll go be beer. <v Speaker 1>Hey everybody, welcome to Game Mess Mornings with Me Jeff <v Speaker 1>Grab your host from giant bomb dot com. <v Speaker 3>Thank you for tuning in. <v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're going to be talking about more <v Speaker 1>problems for Marathon and the dead Speak is now a <v Speaker 1>feature in Fortnite. It's going to be a good one <v Speaker 1>because we have lex Letty on the show. Lexi, how <v Speaker 1>are you doing? <v Speaker 2>I'm not doing too bad, grub I literally launched a <v Speaker 2>website one hour. <v Speaker 3>Ago, so all smooth, right, no problems? <v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, totally. Patroon didn't take down our Patreon page <v Speaker 2>at all five minutes before launch. And yeah, so I <v Speaker 2>just launched rewinder dot co dot UK with Henry Sockdale <v Speaker 2>and Scott McCray. Scott McCray has been on the show before, <v Speaker 2>and we're we're gonna try to run a site that <v Speaker 2>is writing about stuff that we care about in an <v Speaker 2>interesting and in depth way, and we are going to <v Speaker 2>have a Patreon page and we are planning on getting <v Speaker 2>other freelancers on and involved. But that Patreon page was <v Speaker 2>taken down five minutes before we went live, probably because <v Speaker 2>I signed into it from Ireland and Henry is in <v Speaker 2>the UK and they were like, ah, look at these <v Speaker 2>illegal people doing illegal things. So that patron is gonna <v Speaker 2>come next week hopefully, and I'll be pestering you again <v Speaker 2>to be on the show to promote that then. But <v Speaker 2>until then, go check out some of the articles. I <v Speaker 2>wrote a piece about the state of the industry, industry <v Speaker 2>that people seem to like glub you're quoted in that <v Speaker 2>from now like Reminder, rewinded dot co dot uk, which <v Speaker 2>is not to be confused with the video game that <v Speaker 2>just got announced Rewinder too, Yeah, which was a very <v Speaker 2>early bit of us being like, god damn, we thought <v Speaker 2>we found a good fucking name. <v Speaker 3>There's none left. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, And then I also reviewed them big Wigs over <v Speaker 2>the Road racing on Steam because yeah. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean you gotta start, you gotta start somewhere, <v Speaker 1>and why not start with the best? <v Speaker 3>I mean it's all downhill from here. <v Speaker 2>You're totally right. We did have a very serious conversation <v Speaker 2>in a discord of like, okay, so like what's the <v Speaker 2>lowest score we can give? Is it one or zero? <v Speaker 2>Mm hm? And I was trying to figure out, like <v Speaker 2>if we give it a zero, we'll like Metacritic like <v Speaker 2>not accept us, Like does Metacritic even accept zeros, so. <v Speaker 3>Like, can it calculate it? Even? Who knows? It's ancient <v Speaker 3>manth over the area? <v Speaker 2>So we went with a one. Okay, that game is <v Speaker 2>worse than before. They made it worse when they bought <v Speaker 2>it over to sea. <v Speaker 3>This is the re release, right, okay, the Steam re release. <v Speaker 1>Yes they've not is it even a remaster, it's just <v Speaker 1>they're just releasing that game. <v Speaker 2>Right, Yes, and no, there are parts of it that <v Speaker 2>seem to operate differently, which indicates that they have gone <v Speaker 2>in and tried to fix something. <v Speaker 3>Great right in there, just so that we'll see what happens. <v Speaker 3>Can't get any worse. <v Speaker 2>So like famously, the AI cars didn't move at all <v Speaker 2>in that game. Now, occasionally when a race starts, they'll <v Speaker 2>move forward for a bish and then just kind of <v Speaker 2>careen off the road. So it seems like there was <v Speaker 2>some attempt made to like add AI back Intoish and <v Speaker 2>then they just fucking gave up it. <v Speaker 1>Also big riggs over the over the road racing for <v Speaker 1>people wondering a Alex Navarro classic. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, they also managed to make it so that if <v Speaker 2>you have your text size set at Windows level, that's <v Speaker 2>the size that the window of the game opens in soredible. Yeah, so, <v Speaker 2>like most people, I have the windows recommended one hundred <v Speaker 2>and twenty five percent for my text size, and so <v Speaker 2>whenever the game opened, it was one hundred and twenty <v Speaker 2>five percent zoomed in and I literally couldn't hit the <v Speaker 2>start race button because I was in the bottom of <v Speaker 2>my hand corner and it was cut off. So that <v Speaker 2>was a fun two hours of troubleshooting of trying to <v Speaker 2>figure out how to open this in windowed mode, which <v Speaker 2>you can't. And then it has a DLC pack And <v Speaker 2>do you want to know what's in the DLC pack. <v Speaker 1>I hope it's just a hat nothing, just give us <v Speaker 1>more money. <v Speaker 2>No, it's a free DLC pack. But I think they <v Speaker 2>wanted to say, like, oh, there's new content, and all <v Speaker 2>that's in the web page for the pack is like, oh, <v Speaker 2>here's some AI generated images of a Lamborghini and Shish, <v Speaker 2>but none of that's in the game. You can have <v Speaker 2>access to those bape eggs in the game. There's nothing <v Speaker 2>added to the game. It's just like it. And the <v Speaker 2>thing that depresses me about it is it's like mostly <v Speaker 2>positive on Steam because people are buying it and reviewing <v Speaker 2>it is like, Lol, this is the worst game ever, <v Speaker 2>but like they didn't even preserve it. They didn't. They <v Speaker 2>made it different in they made it worse in different ways. <v Speaker 2>They fucked it up. Like if you're we got to <v Speaker 2>try to re release one of the worst games ever made, <v Speaker 2>release it authentically, like put out the version of it. <v Speaker 1>Let me ask, is this a game that can be beaten? <v Speaker 1>Can Like you get to the credits of Big Rigs <v Speaker 1>over the Road Racing. <v Speaker 2>Yes and no, and you can complete most races. However, <v Speaker 2>if you click on the final racetrack, that will instantly <v Speaker 2>crash the game. Okay, yeah, so there's no way to <v Speaker 2>complete all the races. <v Speaker 3>All right, so maybe you have to be sort of flexible. <v Speaker 1>If we were to put this on Blake Club or something, <v Speaker 1>so all right, it would have to be. <v Speaker 2>A leisurely stroll through, you know, the wonders of Big <v Speaker 2>Rigs rather than a thorough scientific examination, right. <v Speaker 3>A demonstration instead of actually trying to beat out. <v Speaker 1>Okay, fair enough, let's explain what we do here most weekdays, <v Speaker 1>I Jeff Grubb, will help piece your gaming life back together. <v Speaker 1>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our <v Speaker 1>own original reporting for all these topics, I'll get the <v Speaker 1>input of a bona fide expert who will make me <v Speaker 1>look smart. If you are watching live on twitch welcome. <v Speaker 1>You can always listen to the show later on podcast <v Speaker 1>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the <v Speaker 1>RSS feed on giant bomb dot com. All right, we have a lot, <v Speaker 1>we have a lot to get into, so let's start <v Speaker 1>the Morning Mess with Grand Theft Auto six. <v Speaker 3>You know, usually if there's any reason to talk about it, <v Speaker 3>put it at the top here. <v Speaker 1>It's still kind of the biggest game looming over everything, <v Speaker 1>and now Take two is its earnings report, and so <v Speaker 1>Strauss Zelmic, the CEO of Take two, had an opportunity <v Speaker 1>to sort of explain a little bit more about the delay. <v Speaker 1>This is from Blair Marnell at GameSpot. Prior to this month, <v Speaker 1>Take two Interactive CEO Streuss Zelnick assured investors that Rockstar's <v Speaker 1>Grand Theft Auto six was on track for a twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty five debut, while also acknowledging the possibility of a delay. However, <v Speaker 1>the game was pushed back to a May twenty twenty <v Speaker 1>six release earlier this month. Now, Zelnick has shared his <v Speaker 1>reaction to GTA six delay. After offering an explanation while <v Speaker 1>speaking with IGN, Zelnick noted that GTA six needed the <v Speaker 1>extra time for the developers to polish the title and <v Speaker 1>turn it into the game that fans want it to be. <v Speaker 1>As we get closer to completion of a title that's <v Speaker 1>seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof for continued polish <v Speaker 1>become clear. In this case, there was an opportunity with <v Speaker 1>a small amount of incremental time. We thought to make <v Speaker 1>sure Rockstar Games achieved its creative vision with no limitations, <v Speaker 1>and I supported that approach, of course, LEXI, I mean, <v Speaker 1>what else is he going to say? This is kind <v Speaker 1>of the whole Let's say, the reason we need more <v Speaker 1>time is because we're going to make this more perfect <v Speaker 1>than perfect, of course, But how are you feeling about <v Speaker 1>GTA six and its ability to sort of hit this <v Speaker 1>very high mark that it's not just setting for itself, <v Speaker 1>but that fans, of course, are going to be expecting <v Speaker 1>from this game after waiting so long. <v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, I think obviously I'm put at ease now <v Speaker 2>that a person who has appeared on the cover of <v Speaker 2>Men's Health magazine has like told me it's going to <v Speaker 2>be good. <v Speaker 3>Sure, that's for sure. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, he should have to deliver all of his earning <v Speaker 2>supports shirtless. <v Speaker 3>I think so. <v Speaker 2>He probably does, She probably does. They don't have video <v Speaker 2>for most of those, they're just als. But yeah, I <v Speaker 2>don't know. I'm at a weird place where GGA six <v Speaker 2>where like, I'm very curious about it. I'm actually writing <v Speaker 2>a piece for my new website about GGA tones and <v Speaker 2>rock star tones and kind of them move away from <v Speaker 2>the very cynical stories that they had been telling, and <v Speaker 2>why I don't think that worked for GGA five when <v Speaker 2>they were still being very cynical and why it is <v Speaker 2>why it did work for Red Dead Redemption two when <v Speaker 2>that game got a bit more I know, less shitty. <v Speaker 2>And my hopes for the tone of the story of <v Speaker 2>GGA Dix and what that actually will end up being. <v Speaker 2>I think it has a way more compelling setup than <v Speaker 2>GGA five. I've said it to a few people, but like, <v Speaker 2>I think GGA five story is only interesting if you <v Speaker 2>look at Trevor and Michael as like antagonists to Franklin <v Speaker 2>and otherwise it becomes like this really shitty thing of <v Speaker 2>me trying to play as these assholes going on. I <v Speaker 2>don't like these guys. I don't want to be these guys. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, I'm curious how it turns out. It obviously <v Speaker 2>looks incredible, and they Digital Foundry put out their thing <v Speaker 2>being like this seems fucking wild and wild. Yeah, and <v Speaker 2>obviously if it has Stephen Wush, it's gonna be the <v Speaker 2>best game ever released, because you know, that's how good <v Speaker 2>he was in Barie. He was in Bari. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 2>Do all the video games have any actors from Bowie <v Speaker 2>in them? <v Speaker 3>None? That matter for sure? Yeah? <v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, I mean there's so much so many things <v Speaker 1>to consider here, and uh, like so many unanswered questions <v Speaker 1>in terms of what you're talking about regarding how they <v Speaker 1>try to present a grand theft Auto in twenty twenty <v Speaker 1>now twenty twenty six, and how that's probably it's gonna <v Speaker 1>have to be different necessarily from you know, the GTF <v Speaker 1>five and all of its predecessors. It does feel like <v Speaker 1>it's kind of been trending in this direction of, you know, <v Speaker 1>not for prestige TV presentation, but like something closer to that, like, Hey, <v Speaker 1>we take this very seriously and we're gonna we're gonna <v Speaker 1>tell the story, and then our humor will be the <v Speaker 1>kind of the humor we've always had. It'll be toned down, <v Speaker 1>toned down over here to the side. And that's the <v Speaker 1>sense I get from this a little bit, where it's like, hey, yeah, <v Speaker 1>there's still ammunation and we have a commercial for that. Uh, <v Speaker 1>but the rest of the humor will be, Hey, we <v Speaker 1>are lampooning the Florida man thing, and yeah, I don't know, <v Speaker 1>I don't know how well that's gonna go over in <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six. It feels like that is a well <v Speaker 1>well troden territory at this point. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, and I mean, like, I think even in GJ <v Speaker 2>five it had kind of gone to the point where <v Speaker 2>it was like this very neoliberal looking down your nose <v Speaker 2>that other people are like, ah, these fucking conservatives, and <v Speaker 2>it's like, I know, it gave me the vibes of <v Speaker 2>like the worst era of like not The Daily Show, <v Speaker 2>but stuff like The Daily Show, where it was just <v Speaker 2>like talking about how terrible Republicans were and how stupid <v Speaker 2>they were and then accidentally just like distracting everybody from <v Speaker 2>all the evil shit they were doing for years, And like, <v Speaker 2>I don't think that flies in twenty twenty six. I <v Speaker 2>don't think you can really have that be your main <v Speaker 2>source of comedy and writing in a game. So like, <v Speaker 2>I'm super and like that team has seen a huge <v Speaker 2>change in who's in charge and how it operates. People <v Speaker 2>who had been at the king or at the helm <v Speaker 2>of that thing and went off and did their own things, <v Speaker 2>they're doing Build a Rocket Boy, and they're just no <v Speaker 2>longer at the company. So I'm very curious to see. <v Speaker 2>I hope this game is good because it seems like <v Speaker 2>they're making it in a much healthier environment, and I <v Speaker 2>wanted to succeed for that reason. Alone, purely to prove <v Speaker 2>that it can be done because the old Rock Star <v Speaker 2>wayh Like you still hear horror stories in and around <v Speaker 2>the UK games media. You know, things will come up <v Speaker 2>with people who have worked there and people who have <v Speaker 2>things to say about it of like that's the real shit. <v Speaker 2>That was the real fucking shit being there for like <v Speaker 2>GGA five and Red Dead two, and so I do <v Speaker 2>hope it works out. <v Speaker 1>When Zoonik says, you know, this game's being developed with <v Speaker 1>no limitations, I mean, you know what it looks that <v Speaker 1>way when visually it looks that way, like they'd like <v Speaker 1>there was never a moment where someone said we can't <v Speaker 1>do that because you know whatever technical reason or you know, <v Speaker 1>financial reason. You know, everyone's focusing on the realistic fizzing <v Speaker 1>of beer that's getting poured and things like that. <v Speaker 3>Do you think that. <v Speaker 1>Do you really think that there's something here where it's <v Speaker 1>like they really have spent all ten years doing every <v Speaker 1>crazy idea they possibly could for GTA six, or do <v Speaker 1>you think it's like, no, it'll actually be more focused <v Speaker 1>than that. <v Speaker 2>You know, it's kind of hard to tell because like <v Speaker 2>we've never really gotten a good vibe of how many <v Speaker 2>people were working on stuff like GGA Online, you know. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>and from what I gather, Red Dead Redemption two was <v Speaker 2>basically all of ROXA, like all of the different studios <v Speaker 2>across the world on ROXA. So it's not like since <v Speaker 2>GGA five ended they were only working on this. They <v Speaker 2>very clearly were working on Red Dead Redemption two first <v Speaker 2>and foremost, and that was the company's focus, and that <v Speaker 2>was the focus across all of their studios. So, you know, <v Speaker 2>I think realistically this game is closer to like eight <v Speaker 2>years of development, which is still buck wild. But yeah, <v Speaker 2>I hope it's a more focused thing. I hope they <v Speaker 2>hone in on something and they go for ash because like, <v Speaker 2>ultimately this is going to be the biggest media event <v Speaker 2>in history most likely, it would be fucking cool if <v Speaker 2>the biggest media event in history was interesting and told <v Speaker 2>an interesting story and tackled interesting topics. You know. It's <v Speaker 2>kind of like the and or thing of like, yeah, <v Speaker 2>you know, I agree with people who are boycotting it, <v Speaker 2>and you can definitely go and get your media through <v Speaker 2>ways without giving Disney money. But also there's something interesting <v Speaker 2>to the fact that like one of the biggest media <v Speaker 2>properties in the world right now one of the most <v Speaker 2>homogeneous ones in the world right now is telling a <v Speaker 2>really really like thoughtful, harsh story about the rise of <v Speaker 2>fascism and how it happens. So I think there's an <v Speaker 2>elem into that to it where if they can hone <v Speaker 2>in on stuff that like does come up a lot <v Speaker 2>if you live in the American South of migration and <v Speaker 2>you know, being a minority in those areas and even <v Speaker 2>like being a couple of mixed races in those areas, Like, yeah, <v Speaker 2>that could be interesting if they actually have the teeth <v Speaker 2>for it and they have the stomach foot and they <v Speaker 2>tackle those topics. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 1>I think that, you know, every Rockstar game seems to <v Speaker 1>strive for some degree of being controversial, and I think <v Speaker 1>that if they could find a way to do it <v Speaker 1>by through their writing and challenging ideas, it would be surprising, <v Speaker 1>but in the exact way that I think Rockstar would <v Speaker 1>want to be. But you know, who knows what they're <v Speaker 1>really going to be able to pull off here. I <v Speaker 1>imagine though, it'll be so big that no matter what, <v Speaker 1>even if it's controversial, like everyone's going to play it. <v Speaker 1>So that's sort of one of the benefits and superpowers <v Speaker 1>that this game is going to have all right, let's. <v Speaker 3>Move along here. <v Speaker 1>Bunchie responds to Marathon art theft, claims this is from <v Speaker 1>Cherry I should say Sherry Vaulkner at a game spot. <v Speaker 1>I believe Bungee has admitted to finding stolen art assets <v Speaker 1>in its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon. Graphic artist Anti Reel <v Speaker 1>has taken to Twitter to claim that Bungie used their <v Speaker 1>poster designs from twenty seventeen without compensation or credit. Bungie <v Speaker 1>admits the claims and says it will undertake a complete <v Speaker 1>review of the game's assets. Anti Real posted to Twitter <v Speaker 1>on May fifteenth, claiming that the Marathon alpha released recently <v Speaker 1>and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster <v Speaker 1>designs I made in twenty seventeen. They tagged both Bungie <v Speaker 1>and Marathon's franchise art director Joseph Cross. They continued, Bungie is, <v Speaker 1>of course not obligated to hire me when making a <v Speaker 1>game that draws overwhelmingly from the same design language I <v Speaker 1>have refined for the last decade, but clearly my work <v Speaker 1>was good enough to pillage for ideas and plaster all <v Speaker 1>over their game without pay or attribution. This is mostly <v Speaker 1>strange because it's happened before Destiny had some plagiared plagiariz art, right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. The big thing, like when I first saw this headline, <v Speaker 2>sometimes when you see stuff like oh art theft, there's <v Speaker 2>an element to like, oh, well, you know, artist art, <v Speaker 2>everyone drives from the same inspirations. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, Like sure, I'm very sympathetic to that. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you look at the examples and like it's very <v Speaker 2>clear that someone just took elements of this person's ash <v Speaker 2>into photoshop and then and used it. I think you <v Speaker 2>talked about it on Game Mesticides last night. But like <v Speaker 2>the smoking gun to all of this is that there's <v Speaker 2>a reference to control Alt deletion ish. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, that nobody noticed for like four years or something, <v Speaker 2>and then the person posted on their discord being like, hey, <v Speaker 2>no one noticed this, and I was back in twenty <v Speaker 2>twenty four. And then if you go into the game itself, <v Speaker 2>that reference is there in a piece of artwork that's <v Speaker 2>on on like a wall or something, and yeah, this <v Speaker 2>happened back in twenty twenty four with them with Destiny too, right, <v Speaker 2>and like, yes, there is clearly there's clearly one something <v Speaker 2>wrong with the systems because you know, if you have <v Speaker 2>an art department and you are looking for inspirations, how <v Speaker 2>does that go from we're looking for inspirations, which is <v Speaker 2>a very common thing. We're creating mood boards, We're doing <v Speaker 2>this and that, we're you know, pulling up a poster <v Speaker 2>of all of our inspirations, which like creating. Yeah, like <v Speaker 2>you and me have created logos for new things recently, <v Speaker 2>and we both probably did the same thing, which was <v Speaker 2>sent jerum a bunch of art that we liked and <v Speaker 2>be like go nuts exactly. And now it seems like <v Speaker 2>whatever happened there was they were clearly just doing more <v Speaker 2>than just looking at the art and creating something from there. <v Speaker 2>They were taking the art itself, and like it's bad. <v Speaker 2>They're a fucking huge company. One everyone involved should know better, <v Speaker 2>and two they should have like safeguards in place to <v Speaker 2>make sure this doesn't happen. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, So they say they're going to look at all <v Speaker 1>the procedures. <v Speaker 3>They said that they. <v Speaker 1>You know, I don't if they believe or they're just <v Speaker 1>flat out saying that this was due to a former <v Speaker 1>artist that used to work at Bungie. So they have <v Speaker 1>some in the throw under the bus a little bit. <v Speaker 1>I wonder if it's the same artist that did what <v Speaker 1>happened with Destiny to maybe that makes some sense, although <v Speaker 1>you know, why didn't you vet everything that that person <v Speaker 1>worked on, So maybe maybe that's not the case. I'm <v Speaker 1>just kind of speculating at that point. But yeah, they're <v Speaker 1>they're promising to also do right by the artists, whatever <v Speaker 1>that means. They said they reached out to Anti Reel <v Speaker 1>to discuss the matter and said, we are committed to <v Speaker 1>do the to do right by the artist. As a <v Speaker 1>matter of policy, we do not use the work of <v Speaker 1>artists without their permission. <v Speaker 3>Well until you do. <v Speaker 1>The developer also confirms that to prevent similar issues happening again, <v Speaker 1>it will conduct a. <v Speaker 3>Thorough review of game assets. So we'll see where that lands. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, needs yes, exactly, I could see how this happens. <v Speaker 1>But Marathon needs all the favors it can get right now, <v Speaker 1>and the only reasons showing up in the new US <v Speaker 1>is for something like this. In the meantime, everyone's kind <v Speaker 1>of looking around and being like, give me an excuse <v Speaker 1>not to want to try Marathon. <v Speaker 3>That's what feels like it's happening right now. <v Speaker 1>People just seem like they don't want to like it, <v Speaker 1>and not that I blame anyone. I also want to <v Speaker 1>have more of my time back, so if I have <v Speaker 1>an excuse not to play something, I will also take it. <v Speaker 1>But Marathon is in that zone and they need to <v Speaker 1>get it elsewhere. They need to get like oh, in <v Speaker 1>the hype levels, constantly building zone, and that is seems <v Speaker 1>far away for that game. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, I don't know how. <v Speaker 1>They sort of write this ship and kind of get <v Speaker 1>people back over to talking about the game because they're <v Speaker 1>excited because the shooting feels good. <v Speaker 3>But they got to get to work on that for sure. <v Speaker 2>And it's a shame because, like, boy, that cinematic trailer <v Speaker 2>that they made, that thing fucking goes hot. That thing <v Speaker 2>is incredible, and it's like, guys, if you just made <v Speaker 2>a Halo style single player story with this tone and <v Speaker 2>this vibe and these storytelling elements, that would be so <v Speaker 2>fucking in trusting and you could build from that, you <v Speaker 2>could build a universe around Thath. But instead it is <v Speaker 2>the multiplayer game is the first thing that happens. And <v Speaker 2>I think that like they've just made a bad betch <v Speaker 2>on genre of this isn't the genre that people are <v Speaker 2>going to latch onto. It's super unfortunate because Bungee has <v Speaker 2>some really talented people there, and there's some nobody makes <v Speaker 2>a gun shooting like sound quite like Bungee sound designers do. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, I wish that this game was in a <v Speaker 2>different genre and had a different story to tell around it. <v Speaker 1>All right, we got more headlines to get to, but <v Speaker 1>before we do that, we're going to take a quick <v Speaker 1>break to hear from our sponsors. If you want to <v Speaker 1>have the AD free version, go over to giant bomb <v Speaker 1>dot com slash join and you can get the RSS <v Speaker 1>feed there the video version that is AD free, But <v Speaker 1>you didn't do that, So here is our sponsor. This <v Speaker 1>episode of Giant Bomb is brought to you by kind <v Speaker 1>of Funny. When we said we were going independent, kind <v Speaker 1>of Funny was the first group in our inbox because <v Speaker 1>they believe in and want. <v Speaker 3>To support independent media because that's what they are. <v Speaker 1>For more than a decade, kind of Funny's been making <v Speaker 1>YouTube videos and podcasts about video game reviews, previews, and news, <v Speaker 1>but they also review and rank Marvel movies, Alien Versus <v Speaker 1>Predator movies, and just about every other film front franchise <v Speaker 1>you can think of. Kind of Funny is an independent <v Speaker 1>eleven person talk show network that's live Monday through Friday <v Speaker 1>starting at ten am Pacific time. Sometimes when a media outlet goes independent, <v Speaker 2>it sells out to bigger media outlets mm hmm. And <v Speaker 2>that's just really sad to me. <v Speaker 3>I know, the shames of the industry for sure. <v Speaker 2>I'm kind of like disappointing in you guys, But like <v Speaker 2>you know, look. <v Speaker 3>Which got to make ends meet. <v Speaker 1>I just not all of us can have the scruples <v Speaker 1>and the ethics of lex Lettie. <v Speaker 3>All right, some of us need to straight by. <v Speaker 1>That was very good, I guess for audio listeners, Lexi's <v Speaker 1>decked out in a million Giant Bomb pieces of gear, <v Speaker 1>which thank you, hey, store dot Giant bomb dot com. <v Speaker 1>I can never remember that you are out. I think <v Speaker 1>that's right, Jane correct song. But yeah, that's it. Okay, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>you are a gonna say you were out at Giant <v Speaker 1>bomb dot com. That's nothing, store dot GiantBomb dot com. <v Speaker 1>There'll be some more stuff in there pretty soon as <v Speaker 1>we continue to get more of. <v Speaker 3>The keys to the palace over here. <v Speaker 1>All right, next story, as we continue over here on <v Speaker 1>games Mornings with Me Jeff Grubb and Lex Lutti. Fortnite <v Speaker 1>now lets you speak to Darth Vader with AI generated <v Speaker 1>voice of James Earl Jones because we are in hell. <v Speaker 1>This is from Jason Finelli at GameSpot. Fortnite's Star Wars <v Speaker 1>themed Galactic Battle event has been running since the beginning <v Speaker 1>of the month, letting Star Wars and Fortnite fans alike <v Speaker 1>a live out their dreams of becoming a daring spacefairer <v Speaker 1>in Disney's massive sci fi universe today, the event has <v Speaker 1>brought back one of Star Wars's most famous villains, but <v Speaker 1>with the twist, players can directly speak to him, with <v Speaker 1>the AI generated voice of James Earl Jones providing responses <v Speaker 1>in real time. Vader has replaced the Samurai Darth Vader <v Speaker 1>variant on the map, specifically at Vader Samurai's Solitude location. <v Speaker 1>I guess we don't need the tips and tricks portion <v Speaker 1>of this story. <v Speaker 3>Hey, yeah, what the fuck? I hate this? <v Speaker 1>I guess James Earl Jones definitely hasn't had an agreement. <v Speaker 1>He's now passed away, but he made an agreement with <v Speaker 1>Disney for them to continue using his voice. I didn't <v Speaker 1>love that because, you know, for one thing, it's like <v Speaker 1>Disney should maybe put Darth Vader on the shelf for <v Speaker 1>a long time and not worry about how can we <v Speaker 1>mind this person's you know, iconic voice that now we've <v Speaker 1>now paid for to make stuff, And it's like, okay, <v Speaker 1>that seems like a poor motivation. And also I just <v Speaker 1>don't know how I feel about that in general. Although <v Speaker 1>it's James Earl Jones's voice, he's allowed to decide to <v Speaker 1>do that for himself. That said, I think he was <v Speaker 1>thinking that that stuff will get used in film and <v Speaker 1>you know, used by artists that he had respect for <v Speaker 1>or would have respected. The idea of enabling us to <v Speaker 1>treat it like a magic eight ball that we're talking <v Speaker 1>to in Fortnite just so we can ask questions so <v Speaker 1>while we're goofing off with our friends. Feels super disrespectful <v Speaker 1>and not everyone has to agree with how I feel <v Speaker 1>about it. <v Speaker 3>That's how I feel about it. But I hate it. <v Speaker 3>I hate this a lot. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. Also, apparently they've had to just patch out cursing <v Speaker 2>because people were making him curse. Hell yeah, so that's great. <v Speaker 2>This is there's a bit in here in the story <v Speaker 2>that you have. It's the statement from his family that <v Speaker 2>might be worth here. <v Speaker 1>Okay, See the statement reads, we hope this collaboration. We <v Speaker 1>hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both players, <v Speaker 1>with both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations <v Speaker 1>to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. I mean, listen, the estate wants to get paid <v Speaker 3>and that's fair, you know whatever. <v Speaker 2>And this feels bad. This along with like Tim Sweeney <v Speaker 2>being in Qatar, this week not a great look for <v Speaker 2>that company in a lot of ways. A lot of <v Speaker 2>their petulance recently has well people the wrong way, I think. <v Speaker 2>All so their need to portray themselves as the good <v Speaker 2>guys in the Apple court case is like pretty pretty <v Speaker 2>fucking tiresome. And yeah, I don't I don't have much <v Speaker 2>time for Epic these days. I don't have much time <v Speaker 2>or much interest in anything that Epic does these days, <v Speaker 2>because like, as much as I think that like Fortnite <v Speaker 2>is fun and dumb in a way that only alien <v Speaker 2>hitting the goody can be fun and dumb. Yeah, every <v Speaker 2>now and again I hear one of these stories, I'm like, man, <v Speaker 2>I fucking hate all of this. <v Speaker 1>Fuck this, yeah, I mean it is like, for all <v Speaker 1>fortnite's qualities, I think the McDonald's analogy, the happy meal <v Speaker 1>analogy is completely apt. And this is like getting a <v Speaker 1>toy that you know, uses James Arl Jones's voice in <v Speaker 1>a happy Meal, and it's like, that's what we're doing <v Speaker 1>with this thing, with this this man who meant so <v Speaker 1>much to so many people, and and it was iconic <v Speaker 1>in all these ways for reducing them to this, you know, <v Speaker 1>I guess at a certain point, whatever but I just <v Speaker 1>I think this is just not the best way to <v Speaker 1>use this tech. And it feels like we have had <v Speaker 1>endless time now of people who are in charge of <v Speaker 1>these technologies using them to replace things they don't understand, <v Speaker 1>like social media trying to replace community and from a <v Speaker 1>bunch of nerds don't understand community and the importance of <v Speaker 1>human relationships. And this feels like someone who doesn't understand <v Speaker 1>how people feel about people dying being like, hey, you <v Speaker 1>can still talk to that guy. Is that what you wanted? <v Speaker 1>Does that make you not sad anymore? It's like, Tim, No, <v Speaker 1>that's that's not how it works. BacT, this makes me <v Speaker 1>more sad. Do you understand that? <v Speaker 2>No? Okay, sometimes I'm worried that like black Mirrors too subtle. Yes, <v Speaker 2>you know, like sometimes you look at Charlie Booker and <v Speaker 2>you're like, dude, you need to remind them that, like, <v Speaker 2>this is bad. You need to have a disclaimer at <v Speaker 2>the start of the episode. That's like, no, dog, remember <v Speaker 2>that this isn't the goal, ye Tom? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, let's see here next story. There's a <v Speaker 1>here's a block of Nintendo news. Let's start here with <v Speaker 1>this one. Nintendo says it's committed to make switch to <v Speaker 1>as obtainable as possible amidst tariffs from Sophie Macavhite. Games <v Speaker 1>industry job is basically they continue to do some interviews <v Speaker 1>here and there. Doug Bowser's now come out and kind of, <v Speaker 1>you know, reiterated some positions from Nintendo, this being one <v Speaker 1>of them that they are very committed to make sure <v Speaker 1>there's a plentiful supply, and I think we are on <v Speaker 1>the other side of most of that first day one demand. <v Speaker 1>I'm sure there are some people out there that still <v Speaker 1>have not been able to secure their switch tos, but <v Speaker 1>now lots of reports that like best Buy will have <v Speaker 1>a handful at each store around midnight or at least <v Speaker 1>some stores, so plenty more chances to get it. I <v Speaker 1>know people in Europe seem like they keep seeing a <v Speaker 1>supply get replenished every couple of days or something like that. <v Speaker 2>And so I got email from local toy saw being like, <v Speaker 2>we have more switch tos coming in, so they're definitely <v Speaker 2>sending out more waves of them, or at least allocation <v Speaker 2>more waves of them to different places. <v Speaker 1>So first, for as odd as this launch has been, <v Speaker 1>and things have gone wrong for sure, and Nintendo's been <v Speaker 1>quiet about some details because it seems like they don't <v Speaker 1>want to give definitive answers on all kinds of stuff, <v Speaker 1>and so they've had to correct the record a couple <v Speaker 1>of times. Somehow, it still feels like it kind of <v Speaker 1>a pretty smooth launch to me, like relatively speaking to <v Speaker 1>other systems, where it's like, if you can meet the <v Speaker 1>demand for something that is that has demand as high <v Speaker 1>as this, that's actually pretty impressive. And I think they <v Speaker 1>just kind of stacked the deck in their favor right <v Speaker 1>by waiting a couple of years to actually release this <v Speaker 1>thing when it was probably ready in twenty twenty three <v Speaker 1>or something like that. And you know, even that like <v Speaker 1>last delay from you know internally from twenty twenty five <v Speaker 1>now to the middle of twenty twenty six, they probably <v Speaker 1>have just been making them NonStop since then and have <v Speaker 1>have warehouses full of these things, and. <v Speaker 3>It really does feel like they're ready to go. Do <v Speaker 3>you get that sense? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>I think the thing that's gonna be interesting for me <v Speaker 2>is how this launch plays out for third parties. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>because the switch one wound up being such a gold <v Speaker 2>mine for the things that hit it big. It was <v Speaker 2>you know, this almost empty store that had a couple <v Speaker 2>of games on it, and if you were one of <v Speaker 2>the couple of games in the early couple of like <v Speaker 2>few weeks, and you could do really, really well. The <v Speaker 2>position that third parties are in for this console is <v Speaker 2>basically the inverse of that. They're in a already super <v Speaker 2>cluttered store. They aren't getting review codes sent out because <v Speaker 2>Nintendo isn't sending out review console units. So if I <v Speaker 2>were like a Sega or Square or Capcom who all <v Speaker 2>have Launch games or CD Project Read, I'd be like <v Speaker 2>a little bit fucking pissed at Nintendo for not being <v Speaker 2>a great partner around this launch, because ultimately everyone's going <v Speaker 2>to be rushing to make content about Mario and the <v Speaker 2>Nintendo games at launch. They're not going to be rushing <v Speaker 2>to make content about Yakuza Zero directors, gotcha. <v Speaker 1>I'd be like the right the second or third wave, <v Speaker 1>like right after we get done like squeezing all the <v Speaker 1>juice out of Mario Kart and the hardware itself, It'd <v Speaker 1>be like, oh, people are probably gonna wonder, like which <v Speaker 1>of these third party games are worth it? Like that <v Speaker 1>that's when we get to it. So it's a follow <v Speaker 1>up question and now have time for follow up questions. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, from an editorial point of view, I've been told <v Speaker 2>many times with reviews I've done this year, like unless <v Speaker 2>we have it ready for the embargo, for like the <v Speaker 2>day before releases or the day at releases, it is <v Speaker 2>not worth running a review anymore. Two days later is <v Speaker 2>no longer worth running a review because you're just not <v Speaker 2>going to make your money back on ith. So, like, <v Speaker 2>there's a lot of a bunch of these games like <v Speaker 2>I am willing to bet, stuff like Bravely Default Remastered, <v Speaker 2>Yakuza Zero, and Kanitsugami, all of which are kind of <v Speaker 2>like remakes in different ways, are just not going to <v Speaker 2>get that many reviews and are not going to get <v Speaker 2>that much coverage at all because it won't be worth <v Speaker 2>it for media outlets, And then that's going to have <v Speaker 2>a knock on effect for whether it be the sales <v Speaker 2>or the public perception of these games. So yeah, I'd <v Speaker 2>be super curious to talk to like some third parties <v Speaker 2>about how they feel about the launch of the Switch, <v Speaker 2>because it really feels like Nintendo has stacked the deck, <v Speaker 2>but specifically only for them. They're focused on, like no, no, <v Speaker 2>we come first, buddy, you are all business partners, but <v Speaker 2>you are very clearly number two in this relationship. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean just between you're right that and they'm <v Speaker 1>not getting the help from early press coverage or the <v Speaker 1>game cards only being available on sixty four gigabyte versions <v Speaker 1>which are very expensive, so for seeing a lot of <v Speaker 1>developers to go with game key cards, which seems to <v Speaker 1>be angry, and a lot of fans who buy physical games. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, there's a lot of reasons why this has <v Speaker 1>been challenging for third part. And yet this next story <v Speaker 1>in jan I put a little bit out of order. <v Speaker 1>So the next one I'm gon go to is red Dead. <v Speaker 1>Redemption two for Nintendo Switch two may arrive this year. <v Speaker 1>This is from David Caballero. Earlier this year, in the <v Speaker 1>midst of a flurry of Nintendo Switch two weeks just <v Speaker 1>before its official reveal, video publications such as Game Reactor <v Speaker 1>heard the inevitable rumors about the first Nintendo and third <v Speaker 1>party games that would be would accompany the console. They <v Speaker 1>heard about Cyberpunks, but Fiction, Final Fantasy, Vin and Eldering <v Speaker 1>titles finally confirmed at the Nintendo Switch to Direct presentation <v Speaker 1>in April, but there was one big rumored game that <v Speaker 1>we'd heard of and who yet missed the party. Red <v Speaker 1>Dead Redemption two. It's happened again. Game Reactor has heard <v Speaker 1>from sources close to Rockstar that the acclaimed wild West <v Speaker 1>Open World Opus, considered one of the best games ever <v Speaker 1>by some people, is not only on its way to <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Switch Too, but could be coming to the new <v Speaker 1>console as soon as later this year. You know, at <v Speaker 1>this point, I feel like there's a lot of third <v Speaker 1>parties who are going to try a lot of stuff <v Speaker 1>on the switch To in this first year because they're <v Speaker 1>going to want to see what can work. So I <v Speaker 1>think Red Dead Redemption two makes sense. This is alongside <v Speaker 1>a rumor recently that Grand Theft out of Four might <v Speaker 1>also come to the Switch To in some sort of, <v Speaker 1>you know, lightly remastered form. <v Speaker 3>I think both those games. <v Speaker 1>Could work very well on there, and I think even <v Speaker 1>rock Stars like, let's test the waters for maybe eventually <v Speaker 1>seeing if they can get Grand Theft out of Six <v Speaker 1>to work on this thing that feels like in the cards, <v Speaker 1>although technologically I think it might be very impossible, but <v Speaker 1>we'll see. Yeah, third parties are going to show up here, <v Speaker 1>but it does feel like Nintendo's treating them as an afterthought. <v Speaker 1>Do you think the people who pick up a switch <v Speaker 1>to will treat third party games like this or much <v Speaker 1>smaller games as an afterthought. <v Speaker 2>I don't think they'll treat them as an afterthought, but <v Speaker 2>like you can't deny that, you know, it does have <v Speaker 2>a bit of a knock on effect. People buy a <v Speaker 2>Nintendo console for Nintendo Soft first and foremost, and then <v Speaker 2>if this other stuff is treated as less important. I <v Speaker 2>do think that's going to get internalized. And you know, <v Speaker 2>it's interesting. I think it was, like Dave Lang said <v Speaker 2>on a BombCast once, like you never throw your business <v Speaker 2>partner under the bus, and that's x like extra true <v Speaker 2>with Nintendo. They could fuck you over to the nth <v Speaker 2>degree and you're not gonna say a bad word about them, <v Speaker 2>because then Nintendo and you got to keep that relationship clean. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, I think like Red Dead Redemption two makes <v Speaker 2>a lot of sense. That first Red Dead Redemption release <v Speaker 2>on Switch one was like constantly in the best sellers, <v Speaker 2>so of course they do this. And also it is <v Speaker 2>one of the best games ever made, and it is <v Speaker 2>much better than the first game. The first game is <v Speaker 2>like one of the worst Rockstar games. It's real bad. <v Speaker 3>I prefer it. <v Speaker 1>I prefer to two twos, but hey, that I've gone <v Speaker 1>over my opinion zone two of onto enough. <v Speaker 3>But yeah, I don't know. <v Speaker 1>You don't like Red Redemption one. That's actually surprising at <v Speaker 1>this point. I've never heard nothing but people who love <v Speaker 1>that game. <v Speaker 2>I went back to it this year and it's like <v Speaker 2>it's the pinnacle of the rock Star cynicism problem of <v Speaker 2>you players John Marston who's like meant to be this <v Speaker 2>guy who like is a good man and like you know, <v Speaker 2>is trying to help his family, and then he just <v Speaker 2>works with a bunch of racists and like necropheliacs and assholes, <v Speaker 2>and the whole time I'm like I just want to <v Speaker 2>shoot these motherfuckers, like I would not be working with <v Speaker 2>these people. And then in the end those people don't <v Speaker 2>really get punished in any way. So it's just like, actually, yeah, <v Speaker 2>you were you were good to work, Like working with <v Speaker 2>them was the right choice. It's like, ah, I don't <v Speaker 2>want to work with like the fucking awful, awful, fucking <v Speaker 2>like Pinkerton guys. Uh and then have them get away <v Speaker 2>Scott free. That doesn't feel good. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I would say that the writing is more mature <v Speaker 1>and red dead redemption two for sure. I like, I <v Speaker 1>think it's fun to move in red redemption one though, <v Speaker 1>so that's what works for me. All right, let's keep <v Speaker 1>going here. Nintendo apologize. Oh yeah, that's right. Nintendo apologizes <v Speaker 1>for air with mention of switch to vr RTV support. <v Speaker 1>This is from Liam Dulan at Nintendo Life. We've finally <v Speaker 1>got some clarity within a statement from Nintendo on this. <v Speaker 1>The information about variable refresh rates support originally published on <v Speaker 1>the switch to site was incorrect and VRR is handheld only. <v Speaker 1>That's variable refresh rate for people who are wondering, basically <v Speaker 1>g sync, yes, and the generic term for that is <v Speaker 1>variable refresh rate. What it really means is the TV <v Speaker 1>can refresh at a variable rate so that it can <v Speaker 1>kind of exactly match the output of your device, like <v Speaker 1>your GPU or your console, and so as a frame <v Speaker 1>is ready, the TV can hint, I can accept it <v Speaker 1>right in that moment and display it immediately, so there's <v Speaker 1>no screen tearing or the juttering effect of a ramping <v Speaker 1>frame rate, which can be the worst part about something <v Speaker 1>not running at a cell at sixty or solid thirty <v Speaker 1>is when it changes a lot, and that feels bad. <v Speaker 1>This eliminates most of the issues with that, and so <v Speaker 1>it's a It's a popular feature with people who really <v Speaker 1>kind of want to get the most out of their <v Speaker 1>hardware and their television or their display, and it seems <v Speaker 1>like the switch to will not support it, at least <v Speaker 1>at launch. So they were asked, hey, will VRR for <v Speaker 1>doct mode come in a firmware update at some point <v Speaker 1>in the future, and Nintendo said, we have nothing to <v Speaker 1>announce on this topic. To me, that says probably because <v Speaker 1>that is how it worked with I think even PS five. <v Speaker 1>I think PS five did not have VRR ready to <v Speaker 1>go at launch, and it took a year or two, <v Speaker 1>maybe maybe longer. It took quite a while for them <v Speaker 1>to put out an update update that supported VRR on <v Speaker 1>PS five. <v Speaker 3>In the meantime, though, you'll be able to get it in. <v Speaker 1>Handheld mode, which is going to probably help to make <v Speaker 1>make that picture look even better on that screen, which <v Speaker 1>by all accounts sounds very good. <v Speaker 2>I like this is the same company. This is the <v Speaker 2>same company that patched in blue tooth support after swearing <v Speaker 2>there was no Bluetooth support in the switch one. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and Bluetooth is such a weird one because it's <v Speaker 1>like the delay is bad, and so they're like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>I mean it's in there, but you you shouldn't use it, <v Speaker 1>and there's no good solution to actually make it pretty <v Speaker 1>decent in terms of that delay. <v Speaker 3>So it's like you have to just accepted the accept <v Speaker 3>the delay. <v Speaker 1>So I was like kind of understood where they were <v Speaker 1>coming from with the Bluetooth thing. This one just feels <v Speaker 1>like it's not ready and they're going to just put <v Speaker 1>it in a firmware update later that said, are you <v Speaker 1>just are you someone like tried that does try to <v Speaker 1>get the most out of your TV. Make sure you <v Speaker 1>have like the HD and I two point one cable <v Speaker 1>connected between all the devices so you get Dolby vision <v Speaker 1>and all the other features or is it like whatever. <v Speaker 3>Once it's working, it's working. <v Speaker 2>Like I would like to be. But ultimately the TV <v Speaker 2>that I have I bought like twenty nineteen, like before <v Speaker 2>the pandemic, and I think it has a maximum refresh <v Speaker 2>rate of one hundred. It hurts, which is a weird <v Speaker 2>standard that I've never seen anywhere else. So it can't <v Speaker 2>support like your or one hundred and twenty flames per <v Speaker 2>second stuff, which is a like kind of a pain. <v Speaker 2>I feel like I got fucked over on that one <v Speaker 2>a little bit, But like it's nice when consoles do <v Speaker 2>support stuff like that, and I think it's becoming more <v Speaker 2>accepted and more understood. So yeah, if switch is doing <v Speaker 2>is able to do that eventually, that would be nice. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. Great in the world. Great is the world? In <v Speaker 3>chat is saying what I was thinking. <v Speaker 1>It's like, you got the double pal frame rate, Like <v Speaker 1>somehow you have the hd PAL format the one TV <v Speaker 1>that supports that. <v Speaker 3>Yep, the secret standard only for you, all right? Going <v Speaker 3>along here more Nintendo News. <v Speaker 1>Nintendo is detailed the free switch to updates coming to <v Speaker 1>twelve games. We've heard about these twelve games getting free <v Speaker 1>updates before, but now this is like saying, what's going <v Speaker 1>to happen to those those games? I think you have <v Speaker 1>like a little bit of a concern about two of them, <v Speaker 1>but let's start here. Chris Sculling at VGC Nintendo has <v Speaker 1>detailed the free switch to updates coming to the twelve <v Speaker 1>existing Nintendo Switched one games. These are free updates to <v Speaker 1>games like fifty one Worldwide Classics, the Clubhouse Games, Game Arms, <v Speaker 1>Big Brain Academy, things like that. For fifty one Worldwide Games, <v Speaker 1>clubhouse games. It's getting game share support, so up to <v Speaker 1>four people can play thirty four games shared locally or <v Speaker 1>shared online via game chat. So that's pretty neat. ARMS <v Speaker 1>is getting visual improvements and frame rate. Yeah, the here, <v Speaker 1>I know the ARMS crazies are going to come out <v Speaker 1>into the streets and celebrate because it's now also getting <v Speaker 1>HDR support. But everything's kind of just getting like spruced <v Speaker 1>up or some version of game Share. And then the <v Speaker 1>Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom and the Legend of <v Speaker 1>Zelda Links Awakening. What do you think about those games? <v Speaker 1>Like when I bring those up, what comes to mind first? <v Speaker 1>Because for me it's frame rate. Yeah, they don't mention <v Speaker 1>frame rate on either either of these games. Here's what <v Speaker 1>they say, and I think it's the same for both. Yes, okay, <v Speaker 1>visuals colon optimized for the Nintendo Switch to displays in <v Speaker 1>high resolution TVs for improved image quality, and then HDR <v Speaker 1>support and other games do mention improved frame rate. So <v Speaker 1>I'm I'm a little bit worried that these games for <v Speaker 1>some reason just can't be improved and even on the <v Speaker 1>switch to, they won't won't run any smoother. Now, I <v Speaker 1>think what might be happening here, LEXI is the games <v Speaker 1>that have like the frame rate improvement, maybe they are <v Speaker 1>getting like the full treatment of oh, this game used <v Speaker 1>to be locked at thirty and now could do sixty. <v Speaker 1>Or maybe if it's like it ran at sixty and <v Speaker 1>now can go unlocked one to twenty frames per second, <v Speaker 1>because that's something the switch to can support. So maybe <v Speaker 1>what's happening with these two d or you know, top <v Speaker 1>down Zelda games is that they are getting like improvements, <v Speaker 1>but they're subtle and it's not like, oh, we are <v Speaker 1>improving this game from sixty to one hundred and twenty. <v Speaker 1>It's just like that frame rate it was at before <v Speaker 1>will be smoothed out by naturally moving it to the <v Speaker 1>switch to. I hope that's the case, and I think <v Speaker 1>it probably will be. <v Speaker 3>What do you think? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think what some people were kind of speculating <v Speaker 2>on Blue Sky was that both of these games ran <v Speaker 2>at uncapped frame mates capt frame rates. Yes, so if <v Speaker 2>depending on how the emulation and all of that works <v Speaker 2>on the switch to, if that switch one emulator is <v Speaker 2>able to tap into the extra power of the switch to, <v Speaker 2>then it would presumably just run smoother and would have <v Speaker 2>less dips again, that game had more performance problems than <v Speaker 2>just the frame rate being uncapped. There was also a <v Speaker 2>lot of like stubher and things like that. And you know, <v Speaker 2>it might also just be a thing of like grezoa <v Speaker 2>like a bit more removed from Nintendo than some of <v Speaker 2>these other first pounty developers, and they either might be <v Speaker 2>slow on the uptick and they'll get to this in <v Speaker 2>a few months time, or they just might not be <v Speaker 2>doing it. They might just be focusing on whatever their <v Speaker 2>next thing is. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yeah, I mean, Grezo is a contracted studio, right, <v Speaker 1>Nintendo doesn't own them, so it probably is a matter of, hey, <v Speaker 1>we need you to do extra work for this game <v Speaker 1>you made for us, and even that could just be <v Speaker 1>a managerial situation where that's causing problems. I'm hopeful, though, <v Speaker 1>I've kind of gone back and forth on getting my <v Speaker 1>hopes up in regards to games that have unlocked frame <v Speaker 1>rates just getting natural improvements from running on better hardware, <v Speaker 1>because it's i really a lot of that is going <v Speaker 1>to depend on how the emulation works, and we just <v Speaker 1>don't know it in this moment. <v Speaker 3>But for something like this, I kind of shift back. <v Speaker 3>I'm like, I'm gonna get my. <v Speaker 1>Hopes up and just hope that it runs smoother, because <v Speaker 1>I really like both of those games and would love to. <v Speaker 3>See them improved visually in that way. <v Speaker 2>I also meant to say I was chewing for Arms, <v Speaker 2>but fun fact, my cousin is one of the top <v Speaker 2>rated players in the world. Really yeah, which is real weird. <v Speaker 1>I still to this day I mentioned this every time <v Speaker 1>Arms comes up. Every time I'm on my switch, one <v Speaker 1>of Nintendo's PR guys is booting up ARMS. <v Speaker 3>It's like every day. Hell yeah, Gay, that's awesome. I <v Speaker 3>know it's awesome. It rules, all right. <v Speaker 1>Killer Instinct Gold becomes the thirty ninth Nintendo sixty four <v Speaker 1>game to be added to Switch Online. <v Speaker 3>Over in Japan they. <v Speaker 1>Got Ridge Racer sixty four, although we already had that here. <v Speaker 1>This is from Chris Culling and VGC. Killer Instinct Gold <v Speaker 1>is the latest game to be added to n sixty <v Speaker 1>four on NSO. Despite the name suggesting a special edition <v Speaker 1>of the original game, Killer Instinct Gold is in fact <v Speaker 1>a home port of arcade game Killer Instinct two. Three <v Speaker 1>characters from the original game, Chief, Thunder, Riptor, and Center. <v Speaker 1>Is this the most nineties video game Killer Instinct. Oh yeah, <v Speaker 1>like more than Mortal Kombat even, right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, as a young person, because it's like the nineties <v Speaker 2>has this vibe of like kind of a lot of <v Speaker 2>cheap knockoffs. Yeah, and Killer Instinct is the cheap knockoff <v Speaker 2>of Mortal Kombat, so it feels even more like the <v Speaker 2>discount wrap around shades that someone bought that are like fake, <v Speaker 2>you know, designer. It gives off the same vibe as <v Speaker 2>Mike Minati playing Lascal exactly. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, this is on NSO now obviously the expansion <v Speaker 1>pack version, so the fifty dollars per year version. This <v Speaker 1>is a rare game, not as in it's hard to find, <v Speaker 1>as in it's made by Rare Limited, the company now <v Speaker 1>owned by Microsoft that's working on Perfect Dark for that <v Speaker 1>company and has been under Microsoft for. <v Speaker 3>Twenty five years now. <v Speaker 1>But Nintendo owns some aspects of these games, not all <v Speaker 1>of them, but Killer Instinct I think you know that <v Speaker 1>went with Microsoft. Obviously they've made Killer Instinct games since then, <v Speaker 1>so this continues to be the fruit of them making <v Speaker 1>a deal to like bring some of these rare games <v Speaker 1>over to n sixty four online. And yet two months <v Speaker 1>out from Donkey Kong Bonanza coming. Donkey Kong sixty four <v Speaker 1>is still not on there. I think Diddy Kong Racing's <v Speaker 1>not on there. So there's a lot of like opportunity <v Speaker 1>to be like, hey, we've got a Donkey Kong game coming, <v Speaker 1>let's celebrate that, and yet Killer Instinct gold instead. <v Speaker 3>Do you think we get the DK games. <v Speaker 2>So genuinely outside of nostalgia. Do you think that anyone <v Speaker 2>would play Donkey Kong sixty four and go, I'm money <v Speaker 2>for another Donkey Kong game, or do you think they'd <v Speaker 2>go I am less excited now, Like I would think <v Speaker 2>there's a side of irony because, like most people who <v Speaker 2>interact with Nintendo's stuff aren't terminally online irony poison people <v Speaker 2>like us who go, that's funny, that's the shitty Donkey <v Speaker 2>Kong game. I'll play some of that. Like if they <v Speaker 2>actually went in there and played it, they'd be like, <v Speaker 2>this is bad. I hope the next one isn't this bad. <v Speaker 1>I think, yes, I definitely I'm with you on all that. <v Speaker 1>I think that there is that, you know, portion of <v Speaker 1>the audience that was young enough at the time to <v Speaker 1>be like to appreciate that game in a way that <v Speaker 1>I could not similar to like how the Star Wars <v Speaker 1>prequels work, where it's like they just see what they <v Speaker 1>like about this game, and would it would be very <v Speaker 1>nostalgic for them. But if you discount the nostalgia, yeah, <v Speaker 1>I don't necessarily think that this helps. But I also <v Speaker 1>don't know if Nintendo thinks about it in those terms. <v Speaker 1>I think for them, it's just like, we'll put a <v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong game on NSO as part of the lead <v Speaker 1>up to this thing, and that would be good because <v Speaker 1>then people are thinking about Donkey Kong, and I don't <v Speaker 1>know how much they consider it beyond that, like, oh, <v Speaker 1>well this game, playing this game get them excited for <v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong Bonanza. It's like, well, you know, they're twenty <v Speaker 1>five years apart in terms of like when they've come out, <v Speaker 1>So no, it's not gonna be anything. <v Speaker 3>Like that game. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, I would not go from Donkey Kong sixty <v Speaker 1>four to thinking, man, I cannot wait for something else <v Speaker 1>like this. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, what do you think. <v Speaker 2>Your kid's reaction would be if you sat them down <v Speaker 2>in front of DK sixty four and like just well, <v Speaker 2>like you, hey, kids, I got you a new game. <v Speaker 2>Here's the new Nintendo game. And they started playing Donkey <v Speaker 2>Kong sixty four. How would they react to that? <v Speaker 1>I think they would have an okay time running around, <v Speaker 1>and then it would be about ten minutes and they'd <v Speaker 1>be like, wait, what am I supposed to be doing? <v Speaker 1>And I'm like, you know what, nobody knows? Nobody else <v Speaker 1>he met. I think I think the answers don't don't. <v Speaker 1>Don't do it anymore. The thing you're doing playing this game, <v Speaker 1>you could just stop and go play something else, go <v Speaker 1>back to uh Minecraft. <v Speaker 3>Please all right, Uh let's see here. <v Speaker 1>Diddy Kong's creator praises and Nintendo's sympathetic redesign of the character. <v Speaker 1>Nintendo has also redesigned Diddy Kong after upgrade updating Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong for Bonanza. <v Speaker 3>I guess I think this must mean that Diddy Kong <v Speaker 3>is going to be in Bonanza. Have we seen him there? <v Speaker 3>I don't know. <v Speaker 2>There's something really funny to me about, like the phrasing <v Speaker 2>of sympathetic redesign, the same way that we were talking <v Speaker 2>about like old rock style games being cynical. Old Donkey <v Speaker 2>Kong games, you know, they were way too hot edged <v Speaker 2>and they you know, Diddy Kong was fucking drunk and <v Speaker 2>he had all these problems. <v Speaker 1>You're the twelve step program now yazed everyone in life. <v Speaker 2>It's a more sympathetic portrayal of the Diddy Kong experience, <v Speaker 2>and you know, it's less problematic, and it reflects modern <v Speaker 2>times of what it's like to be Diddy Kong. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, people planting out. <v Speaker 1>He could be updated for both Mario Kart World and <v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong Binanza. That's probably the case either way. The <v Speaker 1>original creator, Kevin Bayless, because this game was this character <v Speaker 1>was created for the Donkey Kong Country games. He basically <v Speaker 1>just said, thank you Nintendo for improving your Diddykoon character <v Speaker 1>and being symnpthetic towards my original design. They both now <v Speaker 1>look better than ever. I can now rest in peace. <v Speaker 1>So apparently he's dying and leave this mortal coil health. <v Speaker 2>Oh Jesus just. <v Speaker 1>Waiting for like finally I'm free. But yeah, I think <v Speaker 1>this new Diddy Kong design is really good. I also <v Speaker 1>really like the Donkey Kong one though as well. <v Speaker 2>Speaking of people being able to rest in peace. <v Speaker 1>Now, Hideo Kojuba reveals he has a USB stick of <v Speaker 1>game ideas for his studio to use after he dies. <v Speaker 1>This is from Jessica cogswell over at GameSpot shout out <v Speaker 1>to Jessica. <v Speaker 2>Let me just say, last game developer who handed off <v Speaker 2>a USB S some shit went down, dude. <v Speaker 1>And I'm Hdeo Kojima and I've hidden my ideas at <v Speaker 1>a medieval times somewhere in the Midwest. <v Speaker 3>Go good luck finding it. Yeah. So basically it's just like, Hey, <v Speaker 3>when I go away. <v Speaker 1>From this Earth and go back to my planet, I <v Speaker 1>hope that Kojuma Productions can continue and to help aid <v Speaker 1>in that, I have a USB stick with all of <v Speaker 1>my ideas, so they can look at that and make <v Speaker 1>games based on that. Now I get what he's going <v Speaker 1>for here, but also, you know, just hire people who <v Speaker 1>can also have ideas that seems like a good idea. <v Speaker 1>Maybe you're the next generation to have ideas. That's like <v Speaker 1>probably the move And. <v Speaker 2>Like this is always the thing that gets me about <v Speaker 2>Kojima Productions is like they're working on four games at <v Speaker 2>the moment, and the idea that like Kojima is the <v Speaker 2>guy going in there coding all of them is like <v Speaker 2>the way that they want to portray that he's making <v Speaker 2>all of them. And then you look at his instant <v Speaker 2>and usually what he's doing is he's just play testing. <v Speaker 2>He just has a controler in his hand and he's <v Speaker 2>just looking at it and going like, yeah, just tien <v Speaker 2>up the graphics here on this. <v Speaker 3>Level level three. Yeah, exactly. He's he's sixty two, so yep, <v Speaker 3>I get it. <v Speaker 1>Like you start thinking like, hey, yea, I've known people <v Speaker 1>who've died at this age. So and then you know <v Speaker 1>you're also he probably feels responsible for that studio. It's <v Speaker 1>his name on it, so the people that work there, <v Speaker 1>He's like, yeah, do you guys need ideas? So again <v Speaker 1>I understand it, but uh, I think it's probably not <v Speaker 1>going to be what actually happens. You know, Kojima dies tomorrow, <v Speaker 1>and I don't think that studio is like, well, where's <v Speaker 1>that USB stick? <v Speaker 3>They probably figure. <v Speaker 1>Out some other things to make that studio makes sense <v Speaker 1>long term. <v Speaker 3>All right? <v Speaker 1>That does it for the headlines, It's that was a Friday. <v Speaker 1>That's how the news goes sometimes. I'm glad Lexie was <v Speaker 1>here here to help me get through it. We do <v Speaker 1>have the poll question. Let me bring that up over <v Speaker 1>here and refresh poll question from yesterday. <v Speaker 3>Are yeah, are you excited about death stranding? Two? <v Speaker 1>Your options were yes, no, and I'm waiting for reviews. <v Speaker 1>Nineteen percent said they're waiting for reviews, thirty seven percent <v Speaker 1>said no, they are not excited for Death Stranding two, <v Speaker 1>and forty four percent said yes. So game seems to <v Speaker 1>be have quite a bit of pent up demand for it, <v Speaker 1>and I think it does seem like Death Stranding two <v Speaker 1>is really going to deliver. <v Speaker 3>You know. <v Speaker 1>That's how it goes with a lot of these sequels <v Speaker 1>for new new franchises, new series, right LEXI, where the <v Speaker 1>first game is like, man, there's something here, and then <v Speaker 1>the second game can game can just really unlock all <v Speaker 1>that fun, And I think that's going to be the <v Speaker 1>story at Death Stranding two. <v Speaker 3>What do you expect? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm I need to finish the first one. I'm <v Speaker 2>in chapter three, and that game just takes a long <v Speaker 2>time to play and it can be pretty monotonous if <v Speaker 2>you're trying to get through it. So it's probably the <v Speaker 2>long way to experience this. But I'm interested. I'm always <v Speaker 2>interested in what Kojima is doing, even if I don't <v Speaker 2>play the games all of them, I'm still like, Nah, <v Speaker 2>the dude has the sauce, he has the special magic <v Speaker 2>of like this dude's out of his goddamn mind and <v Speaker 2>whether it be that he is directing other people underneath <v Speaker 2>him to continue to be out of their goddamn minds, <v Speaker 2>like they keep on producing stuff that other companies aren't. <v Speaker 2>So like, yeah, go for it. <v Speaker 1>We've got a new pole question we'll get to in <v Speaker 1>a second, and we're gonna have Lex Ludie tell everybody <v Speaker 1>where they can find her on the internet in a moment. <v Speaker 1>But before we do that, jan So people in chat <v Speaker 1>were asking, did you have an opinion on those Kingdom <v Speaker 1>hearts for images that they put out to like kind <v Speaker 1>of tell people, hey, it's still come and don't worry. <v Speaker 3>Why are his feet so small? <v Speaker 1>There were small feet, scary small. I don't like small feet. <v Speaker 1>I want to be normal size or larger. That's it, <v Speaker 1>all right, let's see here, Lex lud Why don't tell <v Speaker 1>people where they can find you on the internet and <v Speaker 1>all that good stuff. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you can find me at lex bloody dash xyz. <v Speaker 2>You can check out the new website that I just <v Speaker 2>started today, Rewinder dot co dot uk. We have the <v Speaker 2>first episode of our podcast out. We have a bunch <v Speaker 2>of articles on the website. We are going to have <v Speaker 2>a patron. I promise you can follow us on blue <v Speaker 2>sky at rewinder, and yeah, I'm super excited for it <v Speaker 2>to get up and running. It's kind of a place <v Speaker 2>that we are hoping we'll be able to house more <v Speaker 2>freelancers who are struggling to get their workhoused in other <v Speaker 2>places at the moment, because there's just no money or <v Speaker 2>budget for more niche ideas that would have previously gone <v Speaker 2>greenlish as features or as reviews or as whatever. So <v Speaker 2>we kind of just want to have conversations that other <v Speaker 2>websites aren't having any more at the moment, and we're <v Speaker 2>going to get a bunch of our friends involved, and yeah, <v Speaker 2>hopefully it will be a good time. And if nothing else, <v Speaker 2>setting up a website has been an experience. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, apparently they want to make that difficult in twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty five. All right, excellent, Everyone should check out rewinder <v Speaker 1>dot co dot uk. Go over there right now, in fact, <v Speaker 1>and then when that Patreon goes live, we'll get you <v Speaker 1>back on the show and you can talk about it <v Speaker 1>again so people can. <v Speaker 3>Get all the details for that. All right. <v Speaker 1>New poll question, are you interested in playing big third <v Speaker 1>party ports on switch to like say, cyberpunk yes, no, <v Speaker 1>and I'm not interested in switch to at all. <v Speaker 3>Those are your options. <v Speaker 1>The poll question is up now on YouTube dot com <v Speaker 1>slash at Giant Bomb. <v Speaker 3>Go to the community tab there you can vote. <v Speaker 1>We'll get the results talk about it here on game <v Speaker 1>mess Mornings on Giant Bomb on Monday, speaking of a <v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb in a little bit like two hours, three <v Speaker 1>hours thish, I think we said three pm, right, So <v Speaker 1>three hours from now we will be going into upf <v Speaker 1>where we're going to probably probably play some Powerstone and <v Speaker 1>maybe some other stuff from that Capcom Fighting Collection two <v Speaker 1>which is out now. I played some Capcom versus sm <v Speaker 1>K two. Did you know that game is really good? <v Speaker 1>That game's really good. So street Fighter Alpha three, which <v Speaker 1>I had only ever played previously, either a little bit <v Speaker 1>in the Arcade, and then I Game Boy Advance with <v Speaker 1>two face buttons. <v Speaker 2>So think about all those like Capcom games of that era. <v Speaker 2>Is that fucking cool? That cool as shit? Everyone in <v Speaker 2>them is cool. The whole vibe is cool. When Tedy <v Speaker 2>Bogod shows up, you're like, fuck, yeah, this is awesome. <v Speaker 2>Look at that guy. Those cool. <v Speaker 3>It's cool. <v Speaker 1>It's uh Mike was saying, it's like all these games, <v Speaker 1>you know, it's the arcade versions of all them, yet <v Speaker 1>they all have a dreamcast vibe, which to me, I <v Speaker 1>would define primarily as fucking cool. <v Speaker 3>All right, So we'll do that for UPF today. <v Speaker 1>I might also try to, like, I might have some time, <v Speaker 1>depends on what's going on with some other stuff. <v Speaker 3>Might have a couple more quick looks going up. I <v Speaker 3>know there was one that was recorded yesterday. <v Speaker 1>I might try to get a Despolotde one done because <v Speaker 1>I find that game to be very moving and we'd <v Speaker 1>like to get something up about it on the website. <v Speaker 3>But we'll see. <v Speaker 1>If I don't do it today, I'll do it early <v Speaker 1>next week, everybody. So yeah, plenty of quick looks happening. <v Speaker 1>Plenty more happening over at giant bomb dot com. Go <v Speaker 1>to bomb dot com slash join to support us, and <v Speaker 1>we'll keep it all going over here. If you're wondering <v Speaker 1>about like new stuff, more stuff. We are in the <v Speaker 1>process of like building the ship that we're all like <v Speaker 1>on before it sinks, and so that's taken up a <v Speaker 1>lot of our time. But we are already planning for <v Speaker 1>like a demo derby. We're planning for like long term <v Speaker 1>play through, like you know, Monday Mornings missed with mitche <v Speaker 1>Mike is something that he's serious about. <v Speaker 3>But that'll be coming up in a couple of weeks. <v Speaker 1>I think, you know, there's some games I want to <v Speaker 1>play through, and I think we'll find some time to <v Speaker 1>make all that stuff happen here very soon. Thank you <v Speaker 1>all for enabling it by enabling us to do it <v Speaker 1>by going to giant bomb dot com slash join support <v Speaker 1>has been overwhelming, all right, Lex Ludie, thank you so <v Speaker 1>much for hanging out with me today and talking about <v Speaker 1>video games. <v Speaker 3>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>Thanks so much for having me on and I wanted <v Speaker 2>to like say to both you and Jan I'm so <v Speaker 2>happy for the both of ee and just delight better <v Speaker 2>people couldn't be in charge of this side. And this <v Speaker 2>community has really rallied behind you, and that's been like <v Speaker 2>amazing to see. And this website means so much to <v Speaker 2>so many people, so thanks for keeping it going. <v Speaker 1>Thank you so much, and thank you to everybody that <v Speaker 1>has been in that community and all the mods and <v Speaker 1>everybody that's helping us answer support emails and things like that. <v Speaker 1>Just shout out to everybody for being so cool.
