00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. 00:00:04 Speaker 2: Final hour on this Meet Friday, morale has been very high. It was a sad day on Tuesday, and I said, let's lift our spirits here, Let's lift all boats in the water here, and it's a meat Friday to remember. Dylan did a great job. We ordered all of this on Monday thinking we'd be nominated for a Sports Emmy on Tuesday. Then we didn't get nominated, and Dylan had already committed to Chicago hot dogs, chili dogs, crab dip hot dogs, ballpark nachos, sausage and peppers, peanuts, cracker jacks, and also those little batting helmets with ice cream in it. Who has it better than we do? 00:00:46 Speaker 3: No body get some. 00:00:47 Speaker 2: More phone calls coming up. Also the curious case of who is the Iceman? Because Caleb Williams filed a trademark that he wants to be known as the Iceman. There's a little bit of a problem with that. We'll have that for you. Eight seven seven three DP show email address dpat Danpatrick dot com. Just heard from will Ferrell. He said that he would be busy when I die and would not be able to do my eulity. He's out, yes, so that means Adam Sandler the stage is yours. I don't want to get Nicky Glazer because I think that she would be roasting me a little too much. Sandman would probably do that. Maybe a song. Get Darius Rucker sing a song. 00:01:28 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:01:29 Speaker 2: I don't know how we stumbled on this morbid topic, but we did. Robbie Hommel, NCAANB analysts for NBC, CBS, Turner Big Ten Net, You're probably listening to all of this going, what the hell are they talking about? Robbie part of the broadcast team last night for Iowa and Nebraska, Houston and Illinois. Thanks for joining us. I know you had a late night. At what point do you realize Nebraska has four players on the floor. 00:01:56 Speaker 4: Well, first off, I you know, you did arrest Adam Sandler the longest yard, so he may have something to say about that for the eulogy. But I realized that when coach Van Gundy pointed out. Honestly, I was in the middle of a thought and then I just was like, oh my god, he's wide open, and that's you know, coach with the eyes right there. He saw that, and that was a great catch by him. I don't think Dan, I'd ever seen in a high major college or you know, NBA at this level, I've never seen four guys on the floor all of a time out that that was shocking. 00:02:30 Speaker 2: Okay, but give me accountability for something like that. How does that happen with coaches, assistant coaches and the players themselves. 00:02:39 Speaker 4: Well, you see now in these broadcasts where there will be an assistant coach with a board and there will be five names on it with five numbers, and that's who you're guarding. I can only imagine that it's just a total miscommunication where coach puts somebody in and that guy's now paying attention, and then you get to the floor and break Mast was sort of standing up and trying to get in the game. But I just think it's on both. You know, it's on the players to listen, it's on the coaches to double check, and it's just a it's a total failure all the way around in that situation. 00:03:11 Speaker 2: Does the official can he play a role in this to say to coach, hey, you only got four on the floor. 00:03:19 Speaker 4: Can that That is a good point right there, And a lot of those you'll see the officials in all of these games where they're counting guys to make sure there's not six, And I'm sure that a lot of officials would say to that bench, hey, you've got four guys out here. Yeah, that's that's a great point. But that's definitely a better question for a guy that has refereed in the NCAA tournament games than for me. But yeah, that's that's a really good point. 00:03:42 Speaker 2: But you get penalized for six. You don't get penalized for four. Correct, correct, You just get scored on. How good is Yeah, that's true. How good is Iowa? 00:03:52 Speaker 4: I think they're good, and I think they're playing their best basketball at the right time. You know, for so much of the season it's been well, it's it's been at starts and it's just kind of everybody else And can he get enough help? And his usage is so high and his minutes are so high, he's just having to do so much. But whether it's full Garis and in the Florida game with the shot, or even last night, he was tremendous and in a number of ways, Tate Sage, you know, Tavian Banks in the in the Florida game, had twenty that they've gotten contributions from some other guys, and they they're just so well coached, like Ben McCollum. Is an incredible story of winning everywhere and scheming and the attention to detail. You go to a practice, they're they're working on stuff that is so you know, like minute and just hey, I don't want you here, I want you to be a step to the left, or the footwork needs to be this, like just things that you know, a lot of people are, even a lot of players and coaches would probably let slide. He's not letting slide. That dude is on it with the details. 00:04:51 Speaker 2: Illinois surprised me. I know they're a really good team. I know they got the players from the Bulkans, but that defense, I mean, Houston's not a high scoring team, but still you held them to fifty five in a home game. Yeah, that one surprised me a lot. 00:05:08 Speaker 4: How about you? Well, and yes, because I saw Illinois in February and they were giving up ninety points to seemingly it felt like everybody. The problem has never been offense for Illinois. It has been the defensive side of the floor. I thought VCU could give them some problems because I saw them in the A Ten championship game and they had dynamic guards, they had some shooting on the perimeter. It's like, all right, that's going to be a tough cover. And they overwhelmed them. And they kind of did the same thing with Houston, and not just the home game, but like Milos Uzan and Emmanuel Sharp and Jojo Tuckler played the national championship game last year, So you have the home environment, you've got experienced players, you've got probably two lottery pick freshmen, and they just kept them stuck in the mud all night long. And Illinois's got the positional size and right now they're guarding at a high level, and we know they could score like they're a scary team if they're going to guard. 00:05:59 Speaker 2: Like this is the Big Ten of basketball conference or a football conference. 00:06:05 Speaker 4: I guess. We've won the last three national championships with the Big Ten, so I guess football. But this is quite the season for the Big Ten in basketball, and certainly the just the overarching story of no national championships from two thousand and on, with tom Izzo being the last to do it. Maybe this is the year to break out of that. But you know, we'll see there's some really good teams left from other conferences, but the Big Ten has had a great season. And you know, we were laughing yesterday that Nebraska and Indiana have like flip places. The Nebraska basketball team is all of a sudden in the second weekend. In Indiana football is a national champion. That is hard to believe for childhood me. 00:06:45 Speaker 2: Robbie Hommel in caa NBA analyst for NBC, you were second round pick in the draft in twenty twelve. Yeah, I was, yes, Yes, Did you have an NBA moment? I think you have to share. 00:07:02 Speaker 4: Yeah, I have a good one. So my this is like the second or third game. You know, We're playing the Thunder in the target center and Kevin Durant is off to a tough start. Corey Brewer is guarding him and he's doing a good job. Like Durant missed some shots that he normally makes early on and he misses one and the ball gets knocked out of bounce. I'm sitting next to Gorgy Dane, who ended up having a really good NBA career played at Louisville. We're both rookies. At the same time. Gorgy makes the mistake of clapping and yelling good d Brew, and Durant hears him and this is the clean version, but he goes, it wasn't good d Brew, it was bad fricking shot. Kevin. It's like, man's that's pretty good. Comeback there. Durant gets the ball. We're up eight points, and he drills a three and stares down the bench the whole way and we missed. They come back down, same thing. Durant gets the ball, drills en up so our a point lead is now too, and the whole way down he is tractor beam on Gorgy Dang like literally just staring him down. We miss again. They come down, there's like a foul or a ball out of bounds. He comes over and Kevin Durant verbally of viscerates Gorgy. I don't know who you are. I don't know where you played in college. I've never heard of you. You'll I don't know how you'll ever play in this league. And in my mind, and Gorgey's like, you don't want to know me, you don't want like he just know what to say. Jack Sigma is one of our assistant coaches, the legendary Jack Sikma He's screaming at Gorgy stop talking to Kevin Durant, and I'm like, thank god, I didn't say anything. Durant gets the ball literally step back, fade away, three drills, it beats his chest. Gouse, Man, I'm a bad man. You'll ever forget it. And I'm like, oh my god, like this is a whole other level. But then you fast forward like a month and I'm playing, and I will never forget this. We're I've like moved into the rotation a little bit, and we got some injuries and we've got some real foul trouble. Corey Burwer gets his second file and I remember thinking like, man, if he gets his third, I think it's I think it's going to be me. And he's guarded Durant. And as soon as I thought that literally filed Corey's coming out. I will never forget looking at the floor and Rick Adam and goes, Rob, you got him, and literally I sub in. There's like two and a half minutes to go in the first quarter, and me and Kevin Durant played one on one in front of seventeen thousand of the tar. He started bringing the ball up literally every time clear out Iso. It was like, it was horrifying because you're, like, dude, it's got seven foot tall, two guard, unbelievable player, Hall of Fame player, top you know, ten, fifteen, whatever, and you're just at his mercy. It was terrifying. 00:09:51 Speaker 2: Is he unguardable? 00:09:53 Speaker 4: Yeah, because he can get to his pull up whenever he wants, you know, like he's he's just from whether it's playing pick and roll, get into the elbows. She would just pull up. He's an incredible player. I love watching Kevin Durant play. I'm such a fan. 00:10:07 Speaker 2: All right, so what do you force him to do? 00:10:09 Speaker 4: Well? I followed him on a three. That was a good start, and then I actually got some stops. But Dan, I promise you it was not because it was good Decesse. He just missed a couple. But the NBA, like everybody is so good, you know, Like, and I've played all over the world. I played in Russia, I played in Italy, I played in Spain. I played two years in the NBA. But like, just the talent level in the NBA for all four hundred and fifty guys is truly remarkable. When you're there. 00:10:40 Speaker 2: Well, you were first team All Big ten what three times? 00:10:44 Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, But I blow my knee out twice my junior year and came back as a senior, and I certainly was trying to kind of figure my way back physically. And I played my rookie year in Spain, and then two years of Minnesota, I played for Georgia Romani's team in Italy, so we had good uniform, did a lot of midelining, and then I was I was cut by the Nuggets. I was last cut and I went to Moscow and played the year, which was an adventure in itself. 00:11:09 Speaker 2: What does adventure mean in Moscow? 00:11:12 Speaker 4: Well, there's just corruption. There's just a rampant corruption throughout the games. There's probably some of that, like the officiating. I think teams are trying to avoid. Chesca was like the best team, they have the biggest budget. You know, everybody's trying to avoid Chesca. That really my best overseas European story. Our team had signed Alexi s Fed, who I the reason I went I'm cut by the Nuggets. Alexi was my teammate and I sat with him really on all the planes in Minnesota. We'd sit together the flights, and so when I got cut, this team makes me an offer. And Alexi had left the I think it was Philly. He was out of the NBA. He goes back. He's the highest paid player in Europe this year. So I talked to him. I'm like, how is it. He's like, yeah, it's great. You know, he's living at home. He's the highest big guy and you're up. He shooting like, you know, twenty times a game, and so for him it's great. And they signed Jacob Polham, who if you remember at Kansas State. They got Marco Brown who was in the NBA for the nets and he was out, and then they brought him in, a guy named e. J. Rowland who played at Saint Mary's, and then Jeremy Evans from the NBA. So they signed all these NBA guys because they're the team had been relegated from euro League to euro Cup. It's kind of like soccer where you're playing in the Russian League, but you're also playing a second game during the week and you're playing in a euro Cup or Earleague game. So the way to get back to euro League is that you have to either win euro Cup, which we don't. We lose in the quarterfinals in Valencia, or you make the finals. So some of the corruption I'm talking about like teams. If you're the four of the five and you've got CHESSCA in the semis, there's no way you're going to beat them because they've got the biggest budget. They're kind of like the national team of Russia. So we end up playing our first round series in Siberia. We're the two seed, we're inside. We've sweep them, and then we play in the semifinals. The team from Saint Petersburg. Five game series. They've got Trevor and Bachway who played at Minnesota, Aaron White who played at Iowa, and some of these guys swear that Game five was fixed. I need to go back and watch and see. But we lose the first two, win the next two. Decisive Game five in Saint Petersburg. Our owner who's like an oligard, comes in the locker room fifty minutes before the game, and at this point I'm like, dude, I'm going to retire if we lose. I don't care because I want to leave so bad. I just I'm over this. I hate being here. I'm ready to go home. Owner comes in the locker room and goes guys, this is the biggest game in franchise history. You win tonight, I'll pay each of you one hundred thousand US dollars for my safe and if you win the final two fifty more. So I went from I hope we lose them, we gotta win, like we have to win this game. We end up winning. It's controversial finish some of our Russian players who aren't being paid but all that much, or like hugging on the court we won the Semis like hugging like we won the NBA Finals. The crazy thing though about this story is that a couple of days later, we have a lunch at the owners. He's got like a twenty story office building in Moscow, and he's got a really nice restaurant in the first floor, and the spreads incredible. You're filet, mignon, lobster or whatever you want, They've they've got it there. And the owner literally says, like Joe, He's kind of like says it laughing, but it's not a joke. He goes, man, the funny thing is, I paid the rest to get a fair whistle. So he admits to bribing the rest, which I'm sure the other team was doing too. And then he points to the corner of the room and he literally says, all right, I got where you guys came from. Let's win the final. We'll do this again. And he lined us up like we were third graders and literally doled out one hundred thousand cash in bags and just handed them and doled them out fifteen times. And literally we all had drivers. My driver was Roman, spoke no English, we could only talk on Google Translate. I get in the car and he's like, what's in the back. I'm like, we're gonna get carjacks, all of us. We're going to get carjacked there. And the craziest thing Dan is that we had to go to practice. There was one point five million dollars in cash in the locker room. Well, we practiced, and the next year some guy during a game walked in that same locker room and stole everything, wallets, money, watches, everything. So like, luckily he didn't take that day because he would have he would have left with a good haul. But yeah, Russia's there's a lot going on there, a lot going on there. 00:15:36 Speaker 2: Talking to Robbie Hummel, TNT CBS basketball analyst, Sorry, what happens tonight. 00:15:42 Speaker 4: Well, who's playing. The thing is when you do the tournament that they do in Saint John's. 00:15:49 Speaker 5: Who else we got Michigan State, Connecticut. Michigan State Connecticut. Yeah, that'll be interesting because Connecticut has has certainly had moments, but they've been so up and down, and you know, for a lot of the other defense was really good, but then they went through a loll and their. 00:16:04 Speaker 4: Offense is better. That's about toughness. You know, who can be the tougher team when you play tom as those basketball teams, whether it's when I was playing or when the team Claves is playing or in today's era. It's all about rebounding, in fringes and defense. And the funny thing is I can give you the scout and report in seven and it would be relevant, you know today in twenty twenty six and for you kind of Taris Reid is definitely the X factor. For me, I just think he's one of those guys. When he's playing well, they're hard to handle because their guard player is good. Caravans the ultimate winner. So if Terras Reid can hang in there against those Michigan State bigs and the wave of bigs they're going to throw him. That would go a long way. 00:16:43 Speaker 2: Thanks for sharing. You're doing a great job and people are noticing how good you've been as an analyst, certainly during March madness. But thank you. We appreciate it. 00:16:52 Speaker 4: Run no problem. Yeah, thanks for having me, Dan appreciate it. 00:16:54 Speaker 2: Robbie Homel part of the tournament. There you get the CBSTN, t TBN yus all over the place. Former player. Yeah, guys have nightmare stories about being in Moscow because there's some stuff that goes on. Plus, you know guy I know played there. He said that the fans would they would heat up coins and they'd throw coins at you. Well, take a break. When we come back. Who is the iceman we'll explain right after this Dan Patrick's Show. 00:17:25 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show week days at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP. 00:17:34 Speaker 6: Paully Fools Gohea with Tony Foolsco. Yeah, as everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning Paully and Tony Foodsco Show. Yeah, but instead of us telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on our. 00:17:46 Speaker 2: Show, quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. 00:17:50 Speaker 3: What are you doing interrupting our promo? 00:17:52 Speaker 1: Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. 00:17:54 Speaker 7: You took those clips totally out of context. 00:17:57 Speaker 6: Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you out and beat you. 00:18:01 Speaker 2: Let me put this into context. 00:18:03 Speaker 1: Shut up. 00:18:04 Speaker 6: Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paul and Toni Fusco Show on Ieartradio Apple podcasts. 00:18:08 Speaker 2: Oh wherever you get your podcasts? 00:18:10 Speaker 4: Yea. 00:18:12 Speaker 2: The numbers tonight Duke by six and a half over Saint John's, Michigan by eight and a half over Alabama, Iowa State minus three and a half over Tennessee, and Yukon minus one and a half against Michigan State. Uh, let's see. Somebody was asking me if Seattle's gonna get the franchise expansion franchise. They still own Sonics, it seems like they would want to, you know, re embrace the Seattle's super songs. But what about Vegas because this is truly an expansion team. So what is the name the nickname for Vegas going to be. I don't know if anybody's seen any names out there, but I don't know. I guess you're gonna play off gambling. You're gonna play off cards? I don't know. 00:19:07 Speaker 8: Yeah, pauling the Golden Knights the hockey team, what's that based off. 00:19:10 Speaker 2: Of the owner? I think went to West Point and it's about the Golden Knights of West Point. 00:19:18 Speaker 8: I could see the NBA, even in this gambling era, trying to avoid anything racy for lack of a better word, with the name of the team, like, uh, the high Rollers. 00:19:30 Speaker 2: Well you have the Aces of the w NBA. Okay, but and that's a that's a good You don't want to be the joke. Somebody suggested the Jokers. I go, no, no, you don't want your team calling being called jokers. But then you have to trade for joker and get him in there. 00:19:48 Speaker 8: You don't want the Las Vegas Dealers. That's a lot of You. 00:19:52 Speaker 2: Don't want the Vegas Craps, right, brought to you by Dude wipes. 00:19:57 Speaker 8: Yourself the case in the Vegas Craps. 00:19:59 Speaker 2: Huh yeah, yeah, Todd, you got any names for the Vegas expansion franchise? 00:20:04 Speaker 9: The dice could do all kinds of things with two dice and light it up and do all kinds of I think marketing things with a pair of. 00:20:11 Speaker 2: Dice, right, the Veggas dice, Yes, Mart. 00:20:15 Speaker 7: This may be frisk Fritzy esque. The show Boys. 00:20:20 Speaker 2: The show Boys sounds weird. That sounds like some creepy website you're on. 00:20:27 Speaker 7: Stay out of my personal life. 00:20:28 Speaker 2: But I was looking over your shoulder. Yes, Todd, the Las Vegas. 00:20:33 Speaker 3: Gentleman's Club like they have the Washington Commander's Club. 00:20:36 Speaker 2: We were talking about real names, Todd. 00:20:38 Speaker 9: I think they're gonna be fun, though, But Adam sil already gotta next one of those things. 00:20:42 Speaker 3: Recently. Can't do the. 00:20:44 Speaker 9: Magic City things, so we definitely can't call it the Las Vegas Gentleman's No. 00:20:48 Speaker 2: No, I can't do Olympic Garden or anything like that. 00:20:52 Speaker 3: Good Times, The Spearman Rhino. 00:20:53 Speaker 2: Yeah, the Rhinos, yes, Mark. 00:20:57 Speaker 7: Maybe something like from one of their old XFL the Outlaws or something like that. 00:21:00 Speaker 2: I don't know, I haven't seen any names. 00:21:05 Speaker 8: And yes, Pauline, I've got kind of a Rando betting site. They have the Mirage, the Jokers, the Outlaws, the Scorpions, the Venom, the Diamonds, the Diamonds. 00:21:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, but that, Yeah, I should have been for the Las Vegas A's right, the diamonds, Las Vegas diamonds, the ex calibers. 00:21:29 Speaker 7: Thanks so yes, Marvin for me and Paulie. More important than anything team colors, Like, hmm, what do you. 00:21:37 Speaker 8: Do because you can't look like the Brooklyn Nets with black and white. Oh, no, one will confuse you because nobody watches the nets. 00:21:45 Speaker 2: But then are the Oakland A's the Vegas A's are they going to continue their green and gold colors? I'm guessing the Raiders kept their colors, yeah, PAULI based. 00:21:58 Speaker 8: Off I got an article from Sports Business Journal. It's just a speculative article that says they wouldn't be surprised if they went a total different direction with their uniforms, which allows them to do A's throwback weeks and nights like most teams would do. 00:22:11 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:22:12 Speaker 10: Part of the thing that's tricky for Las Vegas is a lot of names that would be perfect for them are already taken. So like, you have the magic that would be great for Las Vegas already taken. The heat, then the desert, oh that's already taken. The aces, well, you already got an ass. The good names are already taken. You could be like the Neons or something. 00:22:29 Speaker 9: Yes, can they go into business with the sphere and be the spheres and do something? 00:22:33 Speaker 3: Maybe there's something marketing wise and you can ain't catching there. 00:22:37 Speaker 2: Kind of a tough nickname. Let's go watch the Spears Outlaws. 00:22:43 Speaker 3: Yeah, the Golden Nuggets. You got the Denver Nuggets. You've got the Golden Knights, the Golden Nuggets? 00:22:48 Speaker 4: All right? 00:22:48 Speaker 11: Do that? 00:22:49 Speaker 4: I like that? 00:22:50 Speaker 2: All right? Okay, you're rallying. 00:22:52 Speaker 3: You probably wouldn't have the Golden nugget if you have the Denver Nuggets, though, that'll. 00:22:55 Speaker 2: Probably be a problem. 00:22:57 Speaker 3: Good call, ton, It seems like. 00:23:02 Speaker 2: I did, but you know it was better than the other suggestions you had. 00:23:06 Speaker 3: So now that I think about, you can't have two nuggets. 00:23:08 Speaker 2: No, you can't. 00:23:09 Speaker 3: I don't even if the Golden nugget even exists. 00:23:11 Speaker 2: All right, Uh, Cuba in Arizona, Hi, Cuba, what's on your mind today? 00:23:20 Speaker 11: So DP Hey Cuba, hey man, just calling give you some corduroy love haters on you. But uh, even got a couple of corduroy hats man. 00:23:29 Speaker 2: Wait a minute, I'm getting I'm getting criticized for my corduroy. I'm giving you love. Okay, Oh well that's what I was worried about. Am I getting uh like social media hate for my corduroy? M Baker and Bozeman. 00:23:48 Speaker 12: Hi Baker, Hey, happy already speaking of your Cordroy love, listen all the fuel that Corroy love with a gorgeous chocolate brown corduroy Levi's jacket. I just email the photo of it's to Tyler the moderator if you want to see it. I'd like to offer that jacket up in exchange for a game used ESPN tie. You said you've got seventy five of them laying around doing nothing. How about a swap? 00:24:12 Speaker 4: All right, we'll do that. 00:24:13 Speaker 2: Baker, thank you, Uh Zach and Knoxville. Hi Zach, thanks for holding what's on your mind today. 00:24:21 Speaker 4: Thanks for taking a call. 00:24:22 Speaker 8: DP. 00:24:23 Speaker 13: I always picture Marvin, you know, with the Jake Moskel jersey on when he's up there at the Pearly Gates. But I just wanted to ask you about that NBA expansion. We already have quite a few teams that go into the season and remain irrelevant. Do you think that it's a good move to move into expansion right now? 00:24:43 Speaker 2: Well, we've talked about that and we had Tracy McGrady on he goes, I don't know if we have enough players to expand, and he does make a really good case there. I mean, if you look at some of these rosters, then I could give you names and you'd go, what sport that you know? They just wouldn't ring, they'd ring hollow, and you'd be like, I have no idea who that is. I follow it, and there are times when I go, I have no idea who that guy is or who he plays for. 00:25:12 Speaker 4: I do not. 00:25:14 Speaker 2: But man, you look at the money. It's between seven and ten billion dollars. This is the entrance fee, and that money will then go to the other owners. The other owners are going to make probably somewhere around I don't know, four hundred five hundred million dollars for not doing anything. You imagine you show up one day and you look in your bank account and it's got four hundred and fifty million dollars and you didn't do anything. Man, great to be an owner Chris and Syracuse. Hi, Chris, what's on your mind? 00:25:56 Speaker 4: Hey? 00:25:56 Speaker 14: Thanks for getting me and Dan? Yeah, I got a few things to throw at you, and also a possible mock headline to be written on your casket. Yeah, I guess Vegas can't go with because of the Chicago Bulls. They can't go with the pit Bulls either. You were talking about the Pirates center fielders. Non error. Now MLB says it has to be a physical error, not a judgment error. When your judgment tells you to put your glove in a certain spot and the ball bounces off the heel of your glove, that's an error. Just like when your judgment tells you to run forward after a ball instead of backwards. Running is a physical activity, it's an error. And I have to disagree with Robbie Hummel saying he's never seen a coach only having four players on the floor. Let's not forget about that other Husker coach, the legendary Normandale and Dan. You guys were talking about having your funeral in the man Cave on your beloved basketball court. The casket may read former Western Kentucky Hilltopper finally passes. 00:26:58 Speaker 3: Nice. 00:27:01 Speaker 2: It's Eastern Kentucky. We weren't even Western Kentucky. They were good. They were Eastern Kentucky. It's very good. Thank you. 00:27:10 Speaker 4: Chris. 00:27:11 Speaker 2: Caleb Williams has submitted four trademark applications related to the name Iceman, a logo name and silhouettes that mimic Caleb Williams poses he rolls left, jumps and completes a pass. So George Gervin the Iceman. He has a problem with this because he is filed for a trademark. He had Iceman and Iceman forty four. That was his jersey number. So four days after William's application was filed, George Gervin his trademark application was also I guess admitted. But he's been called the Iceman and that was first used in uh nineteen seventy nine. I actually have the Iceman poster and ice is he's sitting on a block of ice and he's these basketballs, you know, look like their ice as well. It's great, great poster. But I sent me that autographed it a couple of years ago. But I guess there is a soccer player in Chelsea rad Satan, Yeah, col Palmer, and he's called Iceman. Uh well no, they'll call him cold Palmer. Oh. 00:28:36 Speaker 10: But his celebration was that sort of like I'm freezing kind of thing because like every time he scores a goal, he's like that was too cold. 00:28:43 Speaker 2: Okay, So Caleb is imitating this soccer player called Palmer. Yeah, okay, so when Palmer scores, he gives you the old shivers, like who and so they call him cold Palmer. Okay. I think Chuck Ledell, former MMA fighter, wasn't he no own as Iceman. There's a lot of guys who were laying claim. 00:29:03 Speaker 8: To this little naval pilot, Val Kilmer. 00:29:06 Speaker 2: Val Kilmer the original Iceman. Oh j yeah, I believe what else, Paul? 00:29:11 Speaker 8: Actually the timeline would be George Gervin. First, the George Gervin's company, Gervin Global Management, thought they had the nickname trademarked already. They found out they never did. The confusion was a death of a business associate who was tasked to do this years ago and he didn't get it done. So when Caleb Williams went in to do this, he had the green light to do it, it was not already trademarked. And when they realized that, they scrambled the Gervin people to get Iceman and Ice forty four trademark. The nickname was not self given by Caleb. Kind of the press did it after he did the Cole Palmer thing. Yeah, but he already took the logo and it's kind of making maybe a clothing line out of this or other things. 00:29:54 Speaker 2: Yeah, they're talking about jerseys and hats and sports equipment. I wear posters, trading cards, sweatshirts. Hmmm, George Gervin is Iceman? 00:30:04 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:30:04 Speaker 10: See, I'm looking a little deeper into the George Gervin situation. You know who had the rights to it, that was supposed to do it on his behalf and didn't. 00:30:12 Speaker 2: Alec Baum's parents. 00:30:14 Speaker 7: Damn it. 00:30:15 Speaker 2: No, that's I'm confusing my stories. Wow, wow, yes, yes. 00:30:21 Speaker 8: Okay, this is the question from the room. If you were the judge in this case and had to decide, how would you make your decision? 00:30:29 Speaker 2: I would say Iceman, you're the original Iceman. You get it? Uh? Corter joerned. But he did make he thought he had trademarked it. It's not like he all of a sudden go oh my gosh, I got a trademark that he did think that he was filing the trademark papers. There was a death and they weren't able to He did not realize that. I would I would give it to Iceman. Yes, PAULI. 00:31:00 Speaker 8: Some people use nicknames of people from the past. But if I refer to you by your nickname and it's more well known than your actual name, I think it's yours. Tiger Woods. No one calls him Eldrick. No one says, hey, George Gervin was on TV today. You say, I saw Ice Gervin on the TV show. I think that would be the default judgment. No one goes Iceman Williams of the Bears. 00:31:22 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:31:23 Speaker 8: No one says that yet. 00:31:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, but Gervin has you know, he's got some kind of documentation. He's got a poster that says Iceman on it. I would just bring the poster to court find him. I'm saying here it is that there's me. Yes, I do. 00:31:39 Speaker 10: I think there's something too. If you bring all of them into court and line them up and ask the jury which one of them is Iceman and they point to George Gervin, They're like, okay, that's clearly you win. 00:31:49 Speaker 2: You get the patent. You do a focus group, and you bring the focus group in and say, all right, uh, you line up Chuck Lddel, you line up Ice Gervan, you line up Caleb Williams, Okay, who is Iceman? And you point Now, if I'm Gervin, I'm wearing my uniform, I'd be wearing my San Antonio Spurs jersey. Yes, Marmon, that said ice on the back. 00:32:13 Speaker 7: Yes, yes, it doesn't say ice on the Chicago Bears uniform. 00:32:17 Speaker 2: Now it doesn't. 00:32:18 Speaker 7: One is Iceman. The other one is the guy that pretends to be cold. 00:32:21 Speaker 2: I would I would come in and do a finger roll like I would do the little Gervi and finger roll there, maybe grows hair back, get a fro back. Yes, Pauli. 00:32:34 Speaker 8: It's like if I said, oh, I saw I was watching NFL Network and LT was being interviewed, I'm referring to who. 00:32:41 Speaker 2: Well, that's different because that could be Lawrence Taylor, La Danian Tomlinson, right, But those are just initials. 00:32:48 Speaker 8: I wonder if either trademarked that for clothes or merchandise. 00:32:53 Speaker 2: I don't know, but Abdul Carter also wanted to be called LT as well. It's weird. He wanted his number and he'd like to be calling to you as well. I think he's changing his number again. Is Abdubal Carter changing his number or did I make that up? 00:33:11 Speaker 1: No? 00:33:11 Speaker 2: No, no, no, he can't do fifty six, But I don't know. For some reason, I thought maybe he was changing. He was changing something. All right, let me take a break. It's time for sausage and peppers. We also have our little batting helmets with ice cream in it, the nacho cheese dip. We have crab crab dogs. Is that what it is? Oh boy? You guys don't come in sick on Monday or with his stomach ache? All right, Todd, we'll try to avoid that. All right, everything in moderation. That's the problem. 00:33:47 Speaker 3: That's very easy to say those words. 00:33:48 Speaker 2: All right, We'll take a break. A last golf for phone calls. What we learned after this. 00:33:52 Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. Last call for phone calls. What we learn what's in store for Monday? Had some suggestions from the backroom guys for the Vegas franchise. How about the gamblers, probably don't want to be that overt with gambling. How about the headliners, the Vegas Headliners, how about the Blackjacks, how about the Vegas Chips, Vegas Slots, gotta be careful with that one man. Vegas Mobsters, Vegas roadrunners. Once again, these are the backroom guys offering up some suggestions there. Let's see Dana in Florida. Morning, Dana, what's on your mind today? 00:34:49 Speaker 4: Hey Dan? 00:34:50 Speaker 15: Second time, longtime, six feet to twenty two. Last chance. Last time I had a chance to chat with you was just before my first foray to Notre Dame Stadium for the East USC game that you guys were at. I didn't get into town until Saturday, so I didn't get a chance to see you guys do your things. So I just wanted to give you a shout out for that stuff. And I'm already fretting about who I'm going to turn to after you guys are done during the show and get a suggestion from you as to who's a good quality program that we could follow after you guys are done due in your show. But some ideas about the franchise name for Vegas. I like some of those ones you just mentioned. They're out in the desert, so I was thinking Vegas Snakes or Vegas snake eyes, or if you're out in the desert for too long, you start to see funny things, so they could be the Vegas Mirage, and that has another connotation, of course. So there's a couple of ideas that I had right there. 00:35:39 Speaker 2: Ray, Well, thank you, Dana. Well, they have a Mirage hotel in Vegas. But the Vegas Mirage is it you're seeing something good or you're seeing something bad when you're watching the expansion team? John and Ohio, Hi John, what's on your mind today? 00:35:55 Speaker 12: Hey? How are you? 00:35:55 Speaker 8: So? 00:35:56 Speaker 16: I was thinking chips And the reason Chips is a perfect name is because they'd never be tanking, because they'd be all in and you got your colors, you know, orange for a thousand dollars, Kip more purple. So I think the Chips is a pretty good name. 00:36:09 Speaker 2: All right, Thank you. 00:36:10 Speaker 4: John. 00:36:11 Speaker 2: Jim in Michigan, Hi Jim, how are you good? 00:36:17 Speaker 11: I had another idea about how I want to be buried, not so much what I want to wear, but the positioning. I'd like to be buried face down so my friends would visit the graves can part their bikes. 00:36:29 Speaker 2: Okay. Bob Knight said he wanted to be buried face down so his critics could kiss his ass. I think Dave in La Good morning, Dave, what's on your mind today? 00:36:40 Speaker 17: Yeah, hello, Dan, thanks for getting me in. Two quick things regarding the Iceman, sober Ka Keemi riiking them. The finish F one driver was famously referred to as the Iceman for his cold, unruffled demeanor, and I think most of the world outside of the US would be quick to note that. Second, Dan, I wanted to mention that when I heard Barry Bond's comments, I harkened back to two thousand and five when I had the privilege of visiting the Giant's clubhouse while working on a documentary. And I can personally attest the fact that after the game, Bonds retired to a personal suite that was in a separate part of the facility, complete with reclining chair and his own shower. Not exactly the paradigm. 00:37:26 Speaker 4: Is the best. 00:37:26 Speaker 17: Teammate you could ever have, and he also insulated himself from the press. 00:37:31 Speaker 2: I might add, Oh, now, when I visited him in the locker room, he had two lockers, But I understood that, you know, sometimes bigger names because you don't want to have the guy next to you have a bunch of people trampling all over you. So you can get a microphone in front of the Star. But yeah, Barry was not a great teammate. He was just a great player. Yeah, pulling a. 00:37:55 Speaker 8: Lot of people made jokes around that time. Even his lockers are getting bad. It wasn't mine. It was an easy one back then. 00:38:03 Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're going to have Barry bonds, at least ask bonds about your teammate is going in before you're going into the Hall of Fame. Jeff Kent, I don't know. Some of these things are so obvious and it just kind of breezed by that stuff. But Bob, I don't know. Look, they're not using bonds. You know. Maybe he's there for Home Run Derby and maybe the Field of Dreams, but that's it for Netflix. Yes, Marvin, why is. 00:38:30 Speaker 7: Everyone in their moral high horse? I don't want to get into this because we're almost out of time. But the whole his head was changing sizes and he won the MVP Award four years in a row. Now you don't want put him in the Hall of Fame. Well, his arms were busting out of his uniform. 00:38:45 Speaker 2: I know, but you had to have some kind of evidence here. 00:38:50 Speaker 4: I don't know put him in. 00:38:53 Speaker 2: I don't give a damn anymore. You know, just put something on his plaque that says, this was the size of his head when he was in PITTSBA, This was the size of his head. Give two different you know, give two different busts. Give me the Pittsburgh one in the San Francisco one. 00:39:08 Speaker 4: I don't care. 00:39:09 Speaker 2: After a while, I spent so much time on this, like Pete Road the Hall of It. Honey Man, Yeah, Paulie. 00:39:17 Speaker 8: Right on c This day in sports History Dan nineteen eighty nine, Sports Illustrated exposed Pete Rose's gambling activity cover magazine article yay. And then nineteen ninety four Magic Johnson became head coach of the Lakers. 00:39:30 Speaker 2: Not for long, not for long? What a fun day? Meet Friday was great? And what's the lead story Monday, Paul what's the lead story? 00:39:44 Speaker 8: Rick Patino? 00:39:46 Speaker 9: Todd Arizona once again bowsed out sooner than they should have. 00:39:51 Speaker 10: Seaton, Oh Man, you con out M. 00:39:57 Speaker 2: Lravin Iowa in the final four. Better not be my Wildcats bowing out my wildcats? Would you learn today Todd Marvin would. 00:40:09 Speaker 3: Like to be buried in his Yukon rip Hamilton Jersey. 00:40:11 Speaker 10: Seaton, would you learn I learned most of our audience is not going to be buried in their sports gear. 00:40:19 Speaker 2: All right, Marvin Abdua Carter will wear number three. See change his number. 00:40:24 Speaker 8: All Russian basketball is fun. 00:40:25 Speaker 2: Thanks for the phone calls, emails, tweets, the all around support. Have a great weekend, A safe weekend for Fritzie Seaton, Marv Paully, yours truly in the back room. Guys, We'll talk to you on month
