Two things stick out to me this morning. Number one, Ryan, didn't you have that shirt on yesterday?

00:01:04
Speaker 3: Yesterday said Kentucky Wesleyan alumni.

00:01:07
Speaker 4: But it's the same shirt.

00:01:08
Speaker 3: No, this one says Kentucky wesley in baseball.

00:01:11
Speaker 2: Okay, so you're getting yourself ready first, Yes, do you have another one for tomorrow?

00:01:15
Speaker 3: I'll wear my purple Kentucky Wesley.

00:01:17
Speaker 4: Are you going to the game? Yes?

00:01:18
Speaker 3: Worldwide Todd Harris just sent me two tickets this morning.

00:01:21
Speaker 4: Are you gonna be cheering for Wesley.

00:01:23
Speaker 3: I absolutely will be cheering for Westley.

00:01:25
Speaker 4: I feel like Drew. That's not good.

00:01:27
Speaker 5: Well, I was gonna say, why was Worldwide Todd Harris give you ticket? Shouldn't Wesleyan be.

00:01:31
Speaker 2: Bringing on the bench or something.

00:01:34
Speaker 3: My Wesleyan connections didn't come through this year like they did a couple of years ago.

00:01:38
Speaker 4: So I mean, did they say they couldn't fit you in?

00:01:41
Speaker 3: Everybody wants to go to Mark Pope's first game, so like they didn't have it, didn't have any extra tickets for hooligans like me.

00:01:47
Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure Wesleyan is giving tickets to people who are just UK fans who want to go to Pope's game and not the most famous alumni in Kentucky.

00:01:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, last time Wesley came here, I got tickets right behind the Wesleyan bench and I was yelling and screaming for Wesley.

00:02:04
Speaker 2: I think this is a shape like the sort of sympathy I had for Wesley and just went out the door.

00:02:10
Speaker 4: Uh what is that? I don't know.

00:02:12
Speaker 5: I thought I loved Wasley many times, like Owen's Burrow. There's a great Mexican restaurant by Wesley and I'm slipping on the name. Had many good nights there. But at this point I feel like we got to run up.

00:02:21
Speaker 4: The scupp said it.

00:02:22
Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it you Wesley, and this dude loves you all more than anything, and you can't even get him in the building.

00:02:28
Speaker 4: So now you see you're with World Worldwide.

00:02:29
Speaker 3: Todd Harris, Yeah, I do want to mention you know there is a recruiting race for my son and Kentucky Wesleyan was.

00:02:39
Speaker 2: Did they drop the ball on the on the Josiah Wow, Well.

00:02:45
Speaker 5: I'm gonna change my crystal ball pick.

00:02:47
Speaker 6: Yeah.

00:02:47
Speaker 2: Now the cat's by thirty four not thirty Wonder what they if you were? They don't set spreads for these games. Where would you put it well.

00:02:54
Speaker 5: Actually, today I'm riding a Wesleyan preview. I haven't really gotten into the roster, so asked me again tomorrow. But I'll say right now, and I'll set the line at thirty two and a half.

00:03:02
Speaker 4: Okay.

00:03:02
Speaker 2: I did notice Louisville opened their season last night. I think they played a team called like Young Friends Young Harris.

00:03:09
Speaker 5: I'm a big fan.

00:03:10
Speaker 4: I thought it was a rapper.

00:03:13
Speaker 2: Young that was really pulling forward.

00:03:14
Speaker 4: What is Young Harris? I thought that was Worldwide Todd's kid.

00:03:18
Speaker 5: I didn't watch the game because I can't be bothered to watch Louisville, but I did before the game look up Young Harris's photo. It is in Georgia Division two. I think it's in Georgia. Yeah, it's Georgia. Young their team photo, I don't know. It's all I need to see. I don't know that they are well.

00:03:35
Speaker 4: I mean we saw Louisvill's team photo, so it worked out.

00:03:38
Speaker 5: I actually took a team photo in the exact same spot of Louisvill's team photo in their practice gym. They did a better team photo as far as just opening their eyes, ironing their clothes, but not a lot of size on Young Harris.

00:03:49
Speaker 4: I do love the name Young Harris for a school.

00:03:52
Speaker 2: I did also say, and I'm I didn't tweet about it because I want to make sure we have a good crowd tomorrow. But for the first game of Pat Kelsey era, it was not the eras tour. I can tell you that it was. I was shocked how few people.

00:04:07
Speaker 4: Were there, you know.

00:04:08
Speaker 2: I mean, I understand it's an exhibition game, but hopeful we'll see what happens with us tomorrow night.

00:04:12
Speaker 4: I think we're gonna have a big crowd there, don't you.

00:04:15
Speaker 3: I think so, because, like I said, I think people want to be there. From Mark Pope's debut. That's the post first game. Yes, like there's so much excitement surrounding that people want to go. Man, I want to go.

00:04:23
Speaker 2: So we made the decision, by the way, we will do a pregame show and a postgame show. It feels like every year that decision changes. This year, we are doing a pregame and post game. So we'll do the pregame here at the bar at four thirty. Postgame show will be after the game. I'm gonna do it, so I'm just stay up and do a postgame show after the first game.

00:04:42
Speaker 4: So that's the Wesleyan T shirt first game.

00:04:45
Speaker 2: Second thing. We have a guest in attendance. Freddie Maggart is in the bill. How about that you're doing, Freddy? Freddie Wayne in the house? Freddie look good, It looks good. It's nice to see Freddie in here. I haven't seen Freddy in a while and so really nice to have. Now we have, we have royalty in the building.

00:05:01
Speaker 3: We've talked some football the last couple of days. And you know, Freddy Leed bleeds blue more than anybody, So you know, we're all frustrated. What's going on right now?

00:05:09
Speaker 4: Yeah? I bet Freddy's pretty Are you frustrated about?

00:05:12
Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, it's frustrating, but well, at least we only play the biggest game against Auburn.

00:05:18
Speaker 4: The if you lose, you miss a Bowl.

00:05:20
Speaker 2: And for them, by the way, they if they lose Saturday, they may not win an SEC game. They don't have another game that's an obvious win on their schedule.

00:05:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, what are they lost five straight?

00:05:30
Speaker 2: Now?

00:05:30
Speaker 5: I mean they're playing teams well, turnovers are hearing them, but they just cannot seem to win a game.

00:05:35
Speaker 2: So, you know, I don't know what you say about that, but there were but uh, Kentucky and Auburn, we're here. So here's what my theory is. If you want to call and talk about if you have football program thoughts, I'd love to hear it.

00:05:48
Speaker 4: Eight five nine two eight twenty two eighty seven.

00:05:50
Speaker 2: But basketball does start tomorrow, So I do think we ought to kind of get ourselves into the basketball mode, into the framework, and talk a little.

00:05:59
Speaker 4: Bit about about the season.

00:06:02
Speaker 2: We discussed yesterday all the players we saw, and we discussed yesterday kind of what the team look like. But I think the season starts with would you agree with me? Sort of? It's been a long time since I think the fan base has been this excited to watch the team play. You know, I don't know what the beginning of the season is going to be like, but I just feel and we'll find out tomorrow in terms, but I just feel there's a lot of energy around this group and around Mark Pope.

00:06:35
Speaker 4: Do you all agree with that?

00:06:37
Speaker 3: I absolutely agree with that.

00:06:38
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:06:38
Speaker 3: I think we feel like the last several years our team kind of got hijacked from us, and now we got our team back and the guys one of us.

00:06:45
Speaker 4: So I think when you meet when you say hijacked, what do you mean?

00:06:48
Speaker 2: I think, you know, just to be fair to cal, he didn't recruit any differently the last few years. Beyond maybe the players weren't as good as he did the whole time he was here.

00:06:58
Speaker 3: I think maybe it was just the uh, the talking down to the fans and kind of separating the fans from the program that I think, that's what I mean.

00:07:07
Speaker 2: So you think that Mark has been a better job of well which he has kind of relating to fans.

00:07:12
Speaker 4: Did you see the story from the girl on Twitter this morning?

00:07:16
Speaker 3: I haven't seen it this morning.

00:07:17
Speaker 2: A woman on Twitter, I say, girl, a woman on Twitter said she was driving down Broadway and saw a person stuck on Broadway out of gas and like holding up traffic, and the police had come to help the person get gas so they could get out of the road in the middle of Broadway, and so she was like, when she got to the front, she realized Mark Pope had run out of gas. No, he was outside on Broadway and the police were having to get him gas. So, first of all, I think that's kind of funny and kind of endearing that like he like Mark Pope's like me trying to like squeeze the last fear you out before you have to pull over. And I also would be like, what if you were driving down the road drew and Mark Pope was in the middle of the road out of gas.

00:08:09
Speaker 5: Well, what was all this endless energy talk? I thought my man didn't run out of energy? Yeah, it was this a metaphor. Has Mark Pope gone to hard before the season?

00:08:18
Speaker 2: I want to know how, though? She how no one had stopped to help him, but the police, Like I would feel like if people saw Mark Pope in the center of the road without gas, like everyone would stop.

00:08:27
Speaker 5: I would have pulled over and gotten the straw out of my cup and siphoned my own gas into his car and said get over the joe Craft Center Alway.

00:08:34
Speaker 2: It's just the rush hour traffic in Lexington is so bad that you won't even pull over for Mark Pope to get around it.

00:08:41
Speaker 5: Well, I actually saw the tweet on my way here and I have to drive Broadway and I got on Ways and it had me going around a big pile on Broadway. I might have missed the show because of Mark Pope if I nowhere.

00:08:52
Speaker 2: So we think Mark Pope caused a major traffic jam this morning.

00:08:58
Speaker 5: I have my route go that way every time, but when I'm cutting it close, I check ways to be safe. There's no problems. And right over here by Rupp, I don't know if that's where it was, there was a big red block and it had me detouring. And I had just seen that tweet that was three minutes old. So I thought, Mark, there is.

00:09:12
Speaker 2: An age old question I've had about gas, which is, when does your light come on? Like when your light comes on, how much more gas do you have left?

00:09:25
Speaker 4: I feel like I've pushed it.

00:09:28
Speaker 2: I continue to push it because usually for me, it happens on the drive from Lexington to Louisville. Louisville to Lexington, and I know the rest stops right. I know, twenty eight is Simpsonville, right, Exit thirty two is Shelbyville. Exit thirty five is Shelbyville. Then forty three we got Wattie paytona with a good gas station there. Then you get to forty eight, fifty three fifty eight right, like I know.

00:09:53
Speaker 4: And there are times that I'll sit there and see the light come on, go, I think.

00:09:57
Speaker 2: I can get five more miles. Yeah, So what what's the answer how many miles? Like how much of your tank is left when the light comes up?

00:10:06
Speaker 3: I think, just based on my experience, each car is different, like I know, but like my signage, why my car right now? I know when it comes on, I've got about forty miles left. Yes, I know that's that's got to be high for most coup but I know when it comes on, I got forty still to go.

00:10:20
Speaker 5: How about you, I've never really pushed it, I kind of I have a Clark's pumping shop I pass every day on Winchester Road. You don't push I'm under half a tank or quarter. I'll just pull in.

00:10:30
Speaker 4: Do you remember kaij Ramsey's advice about gas?

00:10:33
Speaker 2: No, this was one of my favorite Kais You know, for those of you that don't know Kais Ramsey, just look it up like that. You could spend all day watching old Kais Ramsey videos.

00:10:42
Speaker 5: I don't think I have this job without kai Ramsey.

00:10:44
Speaker 2: I think that's pro Kaise Ramesey was one of the like there's a handful of original og Kentucky Internet superstars, right, uh oh, Napier Kais Ramsey the uh what was the rap kid's name, Daniel? But what was this rap about Tubby. You remember, yeah, oh lazy Tuesday, Lazy Tuesday, Yeah, lazy to.

00:11:12
Speaker 4: Leach like those were awesome. But but Kyge was one of them.

00:11:16
Speaker 2: And I remember one time, UH people were complaining that gas prices.

00:11:19
Speaker 4: Were too hot, and his advice was, if you want to.

00:11:24
Speaker 2: Save money on gas, don't wait till your tank is empty. Just get gas when it's half full, and it won't be as much, which I love the logic of it's not as much if you don't buy as much drew, which I actually that was his advice on how to save money on gas.

00:11:43
Speaker 5: I'm about a half tank gal when I fill up, I pay less than you when you fill up your first Shirkyge's logic is correct. I don't think he thought about going more frequently.

00:11:52
Speaker 2: I got I go until the last second. Oh we know, I'll go until like the light is on. And so my tank I think it has seventeen gallons. And if I when I go, you know, if it goes to sixteen point six or sixteen point seven, I consider it a huge success.

00:12:12
Speaker 3: I will never forget the day I was scared to death driving across the ozarks and we're pulling in and you're already on fumes and somehow we still had to go over the ozarks.

00:12:18
Speaker 5: That was a little dangerous, but you were scared of death because we voted who we were gonna eat, and all three of us voted you, so you were gonna be Oh wait.

00:12:26
Speaker 4: A minute, so they just sit me a link. What do you think about this?

00:12:28
Speaker 2: Okay? High performing people who are aggressive tend to wait until their tank is on empty before they pull over.

00:12:40
Speaker 3: Mark Pope, Yes, Matt Jones.

00:12:43
Speaker 2: Matt Jones, so drew high point drew a low performer.

00:12:49
Speaker 4: What about you?

00:12:49
Speaker 2: Do you wait till it's e Oh, I wait till So you and I are high performers, right, I can't.

00:12:53
Speaker 5: Believe you get forty extra mile.

00:12:55
Speaker 3: I know, I know my car is a little high, but I've pulled in before and I know I have one mile left, and I pull into us again.

00:13:01
Speaker 4: You know when it's down to a mile.

00:13:02
Speaker 3: Well, I look when it comes on and I can look at my old dominan say, okay, I got forty miles.

00:13:06
Speaker 2: Really you do it that much?

00:13:08
Speaker 3: Yes? Yeah?

00:13:09
Speaker 5: Does it ever cross your mind to just be like, I should get gas now instead of driving forty more?

00:13:14
Speaker 2: Well, part of it from me though, is let's go back to those exits. There's a different quality of gas stations on the exit.

00:13:21
Speaker 4: That's true.

00:13:21
Speaker 2: Simpsonville is the best one. It's the Simpsonville's the cheapest gas in the state, is it? I think so? Would you agree with that, Freddy, Simpsonville Exit twenty eight cheapest gas in the state?

00:13:32
Speaker 3: Good info?

00:13:32
Speaker 2: Again, Now, who should carry boy five cents cheaper? But for some reason that matters to people, Simpsonville is the cheapest. Then Waddie Paytona is cheaper than Shelbyville. You don't want to stop in Shelbyville. More expensive gas. I've told you Versales has the most expensive gas in the United States of America, the Versales gas mafia. It's more expensive than it is in Lexington or Louisville. So you can't get stuck there. And then I think then Frankfurt right off the exit fifty eight. It's okay, there's two new stations there, but.

00:14:07
Speaker 4: I know where to go. Simpson Ville.

00:14:08
Speaker 5: You gotta be careful though that it could be very crowd well, not that they are the official gas station of Tennessee Athletics now, so every time you pump there, you're putting money into the ball. I'll see I thought about that when they named it Pilot whatever stadium.

00:14:22
Speaker 2: See, I didn't know that. I'm never stopping there a yet. Plus it's very crowded. The Simpsonville one is very crowd anyway. Whoever helped Mark Pope get his gas this morning? Congratulations, there's a UK basketball previous eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven to two seven seven four five two five four. We will talk a little more basketball right for this CHAOSO running back to sports radio.

00:14:48
Speaker 4: I love this.

00:14:48
Speaker 2: People are just texting the text machine with where they think the cheapest gas is.

00:14:51
Speaker 4: You're not gonna convince me it's less than Simpsonville.

00:14:54
Speaker 2: Simpsonville, now eastern Kentucky has some cheap, cheaper gas, Like when you get into like Pike Bull and some of those places, you'll find some cheaper gas. But if I'm talking about this part of the state, I'm fairly sure it's Simpsonville. And I believe, by the way, it's not company by company, like I'm a Clark's pumping shop person, But I don't think it's about the company. I think it's about the town. I genuinely believe the towns get together because the price varies by town. It doesn't vary so much by station, it varies by town, So why for sales so high. I don't know they're uppity. I think they're upity. They think they can charge their high faluting. They think they can charge whatever gas prices they want because they're in versail.

00:15:38
Speaker 3: But they all got together and all decided we're all now that.

00:15:40
Speaker 2: Would be illegal, So I don't think they would admit that. But I do think somehow, like they talk to each other and like, because everybody knows this listening, the cities go up and down together, like they go up, they go down. Simpsonville has like one station, so you think they would raise it the most, but they don't. And I don't know why that would be the case. People are saying, you burn your fuel pump. If you do what we're doing, run, Oh well, I don't know what a fuel pump is. I feels like it feels like mine's hung out on pretty well pretty good so far.

00:16:15
Speaker 4: So I don't I admit that I don't. I don't know anything about it.

00:16:18
Speaker 2: When person writes, Matt, my wife and I are voting for different people for president. My wife is voting for Harris. I'm voting for Trump. By the way, I think that's a common thing. Like women tend to be supporting her. A lot of men support Trump. She got mad at me and last night and said that I wasn't open minded and that I don't even have a liberal friend. I said, you were my liberal liberal friend. Does that count? Yes? Yes, I'll say it counts. Yes, I think that count they tune.

00:16:48
Speaker 3: In, listen to this.

00:16:48
Speaker 2: Tune in and listen to this. Your friends, as long as you don't send me nasty messages of how terrible I am. Yes, I will be your your one, you know, moderately liberal friend.

00:17:00
Speaker 4: I'm not like way out there, but sort of in the you know whatever.

00:17:04
Speaker 5: I misinterpreted that. I thought he was telling his wife, since you're voting for Kamala, you are my liberal friend.

00:17:09
Speaker 2: I think she was mad that he didn't like That's what it sounded to me, like, I don't care.

00:17:15
Speaker 3: If you're what you are to be my friend, you know, if my friend. Know, if I don't care if you're Republican or a Democrat.

00:17:21
Speaker 4: That should be a T shirt. I like that. No, yeah, because you just you just want to be friends with it? You're friends? Uh.

00:17:27
Speaker 2: One person writes, Matt has Ryan made any endorsements? I know usually he tries to endorse someone who's nice to it. Any endorsements in this race?

00:17:36
Speaker 3: I do, like Judge Goodwine, I want to I want to publicly endorse her.

00:17:40
Speaker 4: That's gonna be your one endorsement.

00:17:42
Speaker 3: One endorsement.

00:17:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, did you like read an ad for her?

00:17:44
Speaker 3: Was that one of the I've known her for several years and I think she does a quality work, So we're gonna endorse her.

00:17:50
Speaker 2: I have not, you know, when it comes to local elections like where I vote in Louisville, no clue who's running for anything? Like none, which I know. It's weird because we all have these strongest opinions about the election that matters the least in terms of our vote, right, like no one in Kentucky. Your vote does not matter, but it might matter for your local run right.

00:18:17
Speaker 4: And yet I don't even know who's running for any of them.

00:18:20
Speaker 2: I couldn't tell you one person that will be on the ballot locally in Louisville except the President's right.

00:18:26
Speaker 3: So are you the person that if you don't know anybody who skip it? Or do you vote your party or do you try to see vote?

00:18:32
Speaker 2: Well, I probably, if I don't know, tend to vote the party. But a lot of local elections are non partisans, so I've always said, how are people's I mean, do you skip those? Sometimes sometimes I'm just like that seems like a name of a nice person.

00:18:51
Speaker 3: I saw their yard sign.

00:18:52
Speaker 2: No, I don't do that, but there might be somebody. If I know the person's yard, I would go, well that person, And I tend to think like.

00:19:01
Speaker 5: If you're ever in front of her behind me at the polls, I am googling everything in that five minute window? Are you reading the Herald leaders primer? I'm usually figuring it out on the fly, that makes sense, but at least do some form.

00:19:14
Speaker 4: I'm kind of like, O'Malley, be nice to have.

00:19:17
Speaker 2: A good irishman, irishman on that, you know. I haven't heard the Irish support in a while. Who's up next?

00:19:26
Speaker 4: Luke? Luke? Go ahead, Luke?

00:19:29
Speaker 7: What's going on?

00:19:30
Speaker 2: Guys?

00:19:31
Speaker 6: Uh?

00:19:32
Speaker 7: I just want I think personally, Bucky's has the cheapest gas, and just allegedly I was there on opening days Smiths rose.

00:19:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't. We don't endore our other gas stations. So this is so no is shout out to Smithker.

00:19:49
Speaker 7: Yeah. My second thought is with Marks being like a defensive minded coach and like a lot of the twitter UH fan base wanting Johnston them all, Like I guess I just had the why are we going from like one defensive minded coach to another when it seems well, first.

00:20:07
Speaker 2: Of all, we're not going to anything. I mean, just because people on Twitter won a coach doesn't mean they're coming.

00:20:13
Speaker 4: I hope, I hope people.

00:20:14
Speaker 2: You know, we talked about this yesterday, but Twitter is not the real world. And just because you hear fans say come on down john some raw does not mean if Marks Doop's left he would be the coach. Now, I'd certainly think he'd be a strong contender, he might get the job. But you know, I think there's a sense sometimes from people online that like they decide this and it's not That's not true at all. As I said yesterday, I think if it had been four weeks ago, I think Brad White would have been the most likely higher. Now is that we continue to lose that that likelihood may be going down.

00:20:50
Speaker 4: But go ahead, But.

00:20:53
Speaker 7: Why why do you think we're going from or what maybe another depensive minded coach?

00:20:59
Speaker 2: Abe, I mean, I don't think we Why do you think we're the only program that. I mean, I don't know all the program's histories, but I think there are other programs that have hired defensive coaches.

00:21:11
Speaker 7: Yes, but I mean, I guess I just singing the offense, you know, kind of we've all, like y'all said earlier, like the magic number was to say, twenty one points on the board.

00:21:22
Speaker 2: The defensive minded coaches can still have good offenses if they get the right offensive coordiator and all that.

00:21:27
Speaker 4: So I appreciate the call. Do you believe what Mark stoop shaid said?

00:21:31
Speaker 2: Marks Stoops said yesterday about play calling said he doesn't get involved unless asked, because they asked him about play calling inside the twenty and he said, I do not get involved unless asked.

00:21:44
Speaker 4: Do you what do you think of that?

00:21:46
Speaker 5: I thought he contradicted himself pretty bad, because ten seconds later he said something like I told him to punch it in. I mean, he literally said, I don't tell him what to do, and I think in the same response said I told him we're punching it in or something like that. So addicted himself in that answer. So I'm just as confused as I was before he said it.

00:22:03
Speaker 3: Drew's right. I think the word he used was pounded. He goes, yeah on the head take, and we'll pound it.

00:22:09
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:22:09
Speaker 2: So I didn't hear that part. So he said, so you're saying, give me okay, I'll tell you what. Tell you what, John, I'd like for you to play the actual audio. Is that audio online?

00:22:22
Speaker 5: I'm reading it, but I'm sure we could dig.

00:22:24
Speaker 2: It, right John, We'll find the audio and I'll send We'll send it to you because I'd like for you to play it.

00:22:27
Speaker 4: If that's okay, that's fine.

00:22:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, because I do want to hear it. Yeah, but that I do think there's a sense of when the play calling is not what he wants.

00:22:37
Speaker 3: He'll get on. He'll interrupt and inject his which is.

00:22:40
Speaker 2: Fine, he has a right to do that. But then when I asked about the play calling, he'll say, I don't get into the play calling. There is a sense I've always felt like it kind of.

00:22:47
Speaker 4: Was like that a little bit.

00:22:48
Speaker 5: He did say, whatever you're gonna do, and Hamidon said I'm gonna throw it. I said, do it. But I mean there was a part. I'm still digging for it where he said Pound.

00:22:55
Speaker 4: We'll find it, John, We'll take a break. Very back, Chass, what I'm back.

00:23:00
Speaker 2: It is Kentucky Sports Radio, UK Federal Credit Union. This segment sponsored by there, the official credit union the University of Kentucky, serving UK since nineteen thirty seven and they support the educational community. UKFCU is here for you and here for life, named a Forbes Best in State credit Union. Membership eligibility is required. They're federally insured by NCUA. It is UK Federal Credit Union UKFCU dot org. One person writes, Matt, I was on Broadway saw Mark Pope. He was standing outside waving at people and they were honking at him while they went by. But were they stopping to help him? I mean, I'm sure he appreciated the honks.

00:23:41
Speaker 5: There's something about him being so tall that just ask this too, because you probably saw him from a little farther away than you would have seen anyone else. Probably just a little bit more of a scene with gigantic Mark Pope in the middle of one of the busiest roads on a Tuesday morning.

00:23:52
Speaker 3: Good driving up, you think, who is this tall monster out there?

00:23:55
Speaker 2: Just walking around to call him a monster like.

00:23:57
Speaker 3: That big those things that go out in front of your business then waved their arms up.

00:24:01
Speaker 2: Why are you acting like he's he's like a freak. That's our basketball coach. He's not like the thing that's in front of a gas station.

00:24:09
Speaker 4: He's a super.

00:24:10
Speaker 3: Tall one of those air things in front of a speedwaar a Clark's pumping shop waving their arm.

00:24:15
Speaker 2: Now, they shouldn't have given you tickets behind the bench. This is his opening night and you're gonna say that about it.

00:24:20
Speaker 5: Was he waving his arms?

00:24:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, we say Matt said that, But the person he's waving his arms at.

00:24:25
Speaker 4: It, I didn't know.

00:24:26
Speaker 2: I said he people were waving at him and he was waving back. I didn't say he was out there just throwing his arms and legs around.

00:24:35
Speaker 4: Uh.

00:24:36
Speaker 3: Quite the traffic hazard.

00:24:39
Speaker 2: Twenty two eighty seven. Uh.

00:24:41
Speaker 4: By the way, Louisville shot fifty six threes last night.

00:24:44
Speaker 3: My goodness.

00:24:45
Speaker 2: You know when Kentucky and Louisville play, that could be that could be a lot of threes taken fifty six threes last night against young friends, young friends.

00:24:57
Speaker 5: I didn't see any of that. I don't know how they're gonna play that. Just seeing the competition they played in them taking fifty six threes, that sounds like a wild game. Yeah, I mean there was the tallest guy that their opponent's team was like six three.

00:25:08
Speaker 2: Did it bother you or make you it all a little? Uh whatever? That Liam Cohen. I mean, I was watching Apparently Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were very pro Liam Cohen. I was watching the mannings in Belichick and apparently did did Joe Buck say that Liam Cohen told him about the second time back to Kentucky that you can't go home again?

00:25:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's not good. The opening drive they praised Liam Cohen for about ten minutes straight and told that story how Liam said he can't go back home again, and then they go up ten to nothing. I'm thinking, oh my goodness, this is gonna be a Liam Cohen coming out party.

00:25:44
Speaker 2: Well, then their wide receivers both got hurt, Mike Evans and Godwin, which may be bad for him, but a lot of Liam Cohen praise. I mean, Peyton Manning said during when I watched, he was like, he's going to be a head coach in a few years. Baker Mayfield said best offensive mine I've worked with. I mean there was You're just sitting there and after watching us not be able to score more than twenty points, just hearing them constantly praising Liam Cohen Drew, I mean, you can't help it. Have it sting a little?

00:26:14
Speaker 4: Yeah?

00:26:14
Speaker 5: I mean just last week I watch Good Morning Football NFL Network. They did a whole bit about him, named him their coach of the week, and normally it's a head coach. They gave it to an assistant. So I've already seen a lot of that. Bucks fans and not just a few of them want to fire Todd Bowles and just slide Liam Cohen in the head coach.

00:26:32
Speaker 2: I will tell you the first time I talked to Liam Cohen, and this was his first time here, I think I may have said to you guys like that, dude's gonna be good.

00:26:41
Speaker 4: He's smart.

00:26:42
Speaker 2: And you know, to me, if you're smart, you got a head start on pretty much everything. And you could tell the first time you talk to him he was smart. Now, I always thought he was nice. I always liked him. I always thought he was smart. Towards the end, I'm not certain that like he was always telling you the truth when he talked to you. But in terms of being intelligent, I think he's he's that all right, So we have the sound.

00:27:11
Speaker 4: Here's what Mark Stoop said about play called.

00:27:14
Speaker 8: Criticism is fair. But you know, I don't get involved in play goal. And but what they did ask me on the one on the three when we had a person goal on the three, and I absolutely said, pounded like pound the rock, and we did and we scored. You know what I mean, like, let's not get cute. Now we can be physical. We could run it in here. I told him they had four downs because it was first and goal. So I said, let's not I'll think this, you know. On the others, I didn't say work.

00:27:43
Speaker 2: You know.

00:27:43
Speaker 8: And then I said, you know, play what you know, call what you.

00:27:45
Speaker 2: Want to call.

00:27:46
Speaker 8: I thought he'd made a great call on the fourth and two you know, weird discussion.

00:27:51
Speaker 2: So I mean, he that's actually not inconsistent because what he said is I only tell them if they ask, And he says in that comment that they asked. Now it is a little like the time we scored I said it, or he did say it.

00:28:07
Speaker 5: Don't get involved and then said, I mean he.

00:28:08
Speaker 4: Was they asked. He did say they asked.

00:28:11
Speaker 5: That's getting involved.

00:28:13
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, but I mean if your assistant coach ask.

00:28:16
Speaker 4: You, you gotta answer that.

00:28:17
Speaker 2: I'm not putting that on him. I mean if if if, if, if the Alvins, Cortney goes, what do you think, coach, you not go go? I don't get involved. I mean, I'm okay with him doing that. I actually I didn't hear the quote until right then. I actually don't think that's inconsistent, to be honest.

00:28:31
Speaker 3: And you know, when Colin was here last year, he said that Stoops would did not was not involved play calling. Skan Gerrillo before that said Stoops was not involved a play calling.

00:28:40
Speaker 2: But then you do wonder why is it that these dudes have so much success when they're not here. I mean, Skangerella was considered a quarterback savant and then we were awful offensively when he was here. Like it's it's it is what it is. Who's up next, John, John?

00:28:55
Speaker 9: Go ahead, John, I'm on the other side of this, but I wanted to make a defense and mark Stoops even if he goes three to nine this year, okay, okay, So, as Nick Saban once said, if you pay the wrong players, you're out of luck. It seems that Mark Stuits may have gotten the wrong guys in and they've created a culture of undisciplined allowing to start players to get on treatment, which has kind of led to an overall lack of production from quality talent. But that's his call, and.

00:29:29
Speaker 2: First of all, I don't know if I totally agree with you on that. I mean the players that like, which of the transfers that they brought in? Do you think which are the transfers do you think don't have a good attitude? I mean the captains on the offense and defense are transfers, and we haven't heard anything negative about their attitudes.

00:29:48
Speaker 9: Well, yeah, it's not been transfers, because this problem comes from three years ago. It seems to have come in when BARRYM. Brown and Walker coming into the program. You can see it on the field, them taking plays off and other players looking at them like, hey, why are you doing this? They seemed not to be getting called out for getting disappointed for it, and that seems to be transpired it everywhere. Those are star players and if they're not getting called out for this, it's a tough call.

00:30:13
Speaker 2: Okay, So let's go back I appreciate the call. Let's go back to Lynn Bowden. Okay, Lynn Bowden, there was a different set of rules for Lynn Bowden and everyone else. Lynn Bowden literally parked in Mark Stoop's parking spot.

00:30:32
Speaker 3: That says all you need to know.

00:30:33
Speaker 2: Right, Lyn Bowden would literally pull up and he would park in Mark stoops parking spot and he would leave his car and all the players saw that. But you know what, they were really good. I mean Max has talked about it. They knew Lynn drove him crazy. They didn't think it was fair, but they knew when Lynn got on the field he was gonna do Lin Boden things. And they didn't question his toughness. And he said, you know, basically, they were like, oh, well, shows up on Saturday. He shows up on Saturday. Ultimately, even if what the whispers are about the way certain players are treated, if they came out and played, I think Ryan people get over it.

00:31:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, if he s all the two players at the color mentioned not taking plays off, it probably would be able to look past some of those.

00:31:28
Speaker 4: But I mean, Linn's well, that's true. I don't know. If Lin Bowden, I don't think Aboy would say he took plays off.

00:31:33
Speaker 2: Don't either, so but it's just interesting to see, like different treatment did not cause that team because I mean lin Bowden literally when I say he would come in and park in Mark, I want you to just think about that parking in the head coach's parking spot. But because on the field he did what he did, people just kind of moved past it. So I do think Drew it's more about the on field than it is even like Tree been off the feat.

00:32:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, Lynn was a unique case. Heard some interesting stories from that, but I mean he was a one man offense pretty much in their winning games, So what are you really gonna do about it? He's unique in that. I think a part of the big problem is, you know, you hear stories about some of these guys not giving it all on practice and that stuff over time, even going back to the spring, it just turns up in games. Coaching a game is not just those couple hours on the field. It's the preparation all week, and if guys aren't one hundred percent focused and listening to you and doing what they're supposed to do on Monday, that might leak out on Saturday and you see some of the problems UK football has, So I think the stoops culture of I'm not saying let people park in the spots, but maybe not getting one hundred and ten percent from everybody. Every practice comes Saturday, if they haven't been putting in the preparation, they're just behind at that point.

00:32:45
Speaker 4: Who's up next? Tyler?

00:32:47
Speaker 2: Tyler got about a minute? Go ahead?

00:32:50
Speaker 10: All right, I'll try and make this quick. I don't say this is any malice, but I do not believe Mark Steep so he doesn't get involved in play calling. And I've got some stats with previous offense coordinators that UK to back it up. So Shannon Dawson when he was at West Virginia team's passing yards per game average three seventeen. At UK, it was two oh nine. This year at Miami it's four hundred Bush Hampdon last year, two hundred and twenty one. At Boys State this year so far won sixty eight. Neil Brown Texas Tech three fifty five his one year at UK two thirty one, when he went back to West Virginia two seventy seven. Even Eddie Gran twenty fifteen Cincinnati three hundred and sixty passing yards per game his highest he had at UK was twenty seventeen one eighty eight. It just is what it is.

00:33:35
Speaker 3: Those are interesting, I mean those are pretty that's interest.

00:33:38
Speaker 4: Those are pretty damning numbers. You know. I don't think I'd ever heard.

00:33:42
Speaker 2: Them put out like that. Assuming those numbers are correct, and Tyler, I don't have any reason to believe they're not. I appreciate the call, that's yeah. I mean those numbers are what they are. I'm a numbers guy. They are what they are. He may not say call this play in this moment, but there's there's no doubt he wants a certain kind of offense and he wants it done a certain kind of way. And I've heard a couple people gets tell me the criticism of this team is he has built this team for his style and they can't do it, and they can't do it, and that's why he needs to do something else. And I would still say we look the best last week when they were like spread it.

00:34:23
Speaker 4: Out and throwing it. I mean, we did those drives.

00:34:27
Speaker 2: I just don't know that this team can pound the rock like Mark Stoops would like.

00:34:31
Speaker 4: I do believe he wants to play a certain way, right, But.

00:34:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, when you get guys like Benny Snell and Chris Rodriguez.

00:34:37
Speaker 4: You can do that, but we don't have that.

00:34:38
Speaker 2: We don't have that guy. NBA starts tonight. Who's gonna be crowned King of the Court. We'll find out that DraftKings sports book.

00:34:46
Speaker 4: Every day.

00:34:47
Speaker 2: At DraftKings you get an NBA profit Boost token. You can use it on anything, betting, rebounds, assist points, whatever. Go to DraftKings. You can use my promo code KSR, and if you use pro promo code KSR, they're giving a share of a million dollars in bonus bets.

00:35:05
Speaker 4: WHOA, I don't know how that works?

00:35:07
Speaker 2: Do you? Is it every day?

00:35:09
Speaker 5: I don't know about that, but I love the bonus bets.

00:35:11
Speaker 2: But there's a they're gonna give a million dollars in bonus bets away. Wow, as Ryan would say, go to the website to find out. Sure it's Draft King sports Book, promo code KSR, and just restricts and apply bonus bets expire one hundred and sixty eight hours.

00:35:25
Speaker 4: Go to DKNNG dot co slash b Ball. We'll take a break.

00:35:28
Speaker 2: Talk about the students that Texas banned from going to games.

00:35:32
Speaker 4: It's KSR work.

00:35:35
Speaker 2: I'm back at this Kentucky Sports Radio a FI. I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin. Got three questions here, let me read. All right, let's do it ready? Uh number one, Matt, you said what you said about Stoops maybe not being here next year. Give me the over under on years of Mark Pope being the coach at Kentucky. Ooh, I hadn't put much thought on that yet. Actually, well, let's just let me. I mean, I'll set the over under. You give the You give the answer. If I set it at five and a half over way over.

00:36:16
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go over. I think I really think he's a guy that could be here over ten years.

00:36:22
Speaker 2: Okay to me, I think it's like it's an over If you think he's gonna succeed here, yeah, because he's not gonna I don't think he's leaving, you know what I mean. Like, I don't think, yeah, there's not another job he's gonna take. I don't think he's gonna be a pro coach. So if you think he's gonna succeed, then it's over. If you don't think he's gonna succeed, then it's under you know, So the question just becomes it's really more for me a referendum on whether or not you think it's gonna work, because if you think it's gonna work, Ryan, he'll be here more than five.

00:36:57
Speaker 3: Yes years, So what was your thought process picking five and a half.

00:37:01
Speaker 4: Because I think you're just trying to ask is it gonna work or not? Right?

00:37:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I honestly think it's a yes or no question does it work? Because if it doesn't work, they're not gonna He's not gonna be here six years, you know what I mean? Like this program can't lose for five years, Like it just can't. So like this year, I think he has a grace that we have not seen a coach have since.

00:37:30
Speaker 4: Since Rex first.

00:37:31
Speaker 3: Year after after probation with Eddie Sutton.

00:37:33
Speaker 4: I'm serious.

00:37:34
Speaker 2: I think he has a grace that Cal never had because Cal was a victim of the fact that he had brought in wall cousins and so like people expected.

00:37:44
Speaker 4: To win immediately.

00:37:45
Speaker 2: Yep, I think Billy people kind of expected Tubby hadn't been great, but he'd been to the tournament every year, so there was an assumption like you at least got to do.

00:37:54
Speaker 4: That, Billy.

00:37:56
Speaker 2: I think Tubby had a ton of expectations right off the bat and then won a national championship. I think you have to go back to Rick's first year to find a time a coach will have been given as much grace as Pope will be given this year.

00:38:12
Speaker 3: I like that argument that I think you're dead on with that. And then Rick and the guys that he ended up being very very successful. People fell in love with that team. That's what can happen with these guys, I think, I really do. I think we're gonna fall in love with this team.

00:38:24
Speaker 2: Do you think the fans Drew will be fine as long as they make the tournament? Meaning like people will go in next year still going Pope's our guy, so long as they make the tournament.

00:38:39
Speaker 4: That's kind of what I think.

00:38:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, he was putting tough spot in il on the trans transfer portal helped, but to have to hire an entire staph and go find twelve players, and when he took a month and a half, that's a big ask of anyone. I don't care, Kentucky, whatever you're doing, how much money you have. I mean, you can't go out and get high school kids. Because I've been recruiting for the last year, most of them are gone. You had to just pretty much do strictly portal find coaches, throw it all together on the fly. So I think in year one, as long as it just doesn't absolutely suck, a lot of people will still be on board.

00:39:08
Speaker 4: I agree with that.

00:39:10
Speaker 2: The next question, Matt, you said a couple weeks ago, sixty forty Harris, are you still there.

00:39:19
Speaker 4: Fifty five forty five?

00:39:21
Speaker 2: Really? Yeah? I mean, I honestly, I think anybody that tells you they know what's gonna happen, though, is wrong. I think it's a complete and total toss up. I think there's if you want to find signs that Harris is gonna win, they're out there. If you want to find signs that Trump's gonna win, they're out there. I think it could. It's gonna be no idea.

00:39:42
Speaker 3: Two weeks from today.

00:39:43
Speaker 2: I do think though, whoever wins, it'll be like clear there are either a silent group of people that are gonna go vote for Trump or there's a silent group of women that are gonna vote for Harris. And we'll find out the day it happen. I think it's decided though, Does that make sense? Yes, I think everybody's I think it's decided. It's just a matter of we have to wait two weeks to find out what it is. So I don't know who's next? Bluegrass, Bluegrass, what's up?

00:40:13
Speaker 6: I'll tell you what. Matt up here in Eastern Kentucky. Now we are excited for Matthew Holwind.

00:40:18
Speaker 2: Okay, so I want to hear that bluegrass I Eastern Kentucky. I've heard that there is an excitement that there hasn't been in a while for Is that right?

00:40:30
Speaker 6: Well, you know, it's just it's been our DNA here. You know, we're kids taking rims off the bikes and putting them on trees and shooting on dirt court.

00:40:38
Speaker 2: I mean, but it but is it more now than it was three years ago?

00:40:44
Speaker 4: Oh?

00:40:44
Speaker 6: Lord?

00:40:45
Speaker 5: Yes?

00:40:45
Speaker 6: Oh okay, sure. Well, you know, for a while, it's been like everywhere else. They were wanting tells one on one to go away. They really were. But I'm telling you what the Blue Black game, even though we didn't hit shots. I mean, you've seen things you really wanted to see. You wanted to see movements, you want to see floor space like you wanted to see the floor space you wanted to see like that up tempo. It's gonna work now.

00:41:08
Speaker 2: I think they did everything right. I think the Blue White did everything right Ryan except make shots, which is still important, but like they didn't shoot particularly well. But everything else Bluegrass, I agree with you was exciting.

00:41:21
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:41:22
Speaker 6: I grew up in that ninety six, ninety seven, ninety eight. I was in college then, and you know that's why I've sort of tip in touch with Pope, like I'm I'm watching him at by You well remembered Utah Valley.

00:41:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, he was good at Utah Valley too. Yeah, all right, Blue got it. I gotta go. We gotta go to break a five. But thank you a five nine twenty two eighty seven. I do. There is a there's fans are just more excited. But you listen, you gotta win.

00:41:53
Speaker 3: Guy said that you don't have the tip off dinner last night down a Rup said maybe the largest crowd they've ever had in years tip.

00:41:58
Speaker 2: Off dinner, Rup, And in Louisville that had kind of dissipated a little bit.

00:42:03
Speaker 4: Not this year. No, they've gotten crowds like old school.

00:42:07
Speaker 2: These last couple of years, We'll take a break A five nine, two, twenty two eighty seven here at ks Bars, Kentucky Sports Radio
