The Normal Sport Show

en us RSS Website Apple
The Normal Sport Show is our attempt to bring about some order to the weirdest sport in the world. A game in which crocodiles traipse the playing field on a semi-regular basis. A game in which if you don’t keep your own statistics (and everyone else’s) correctly, you’re ejected from the event. A game in which pool noodles are used as practice props, and nobody blinks an eye.

We take a few of these oddities and try to juxtapose them with the beauty of the game to create a world that will hopefully make you chuckle but that may also make you more thoughtful.

What actually happens next with LIV Golf?

This week, Kyle Porter is joined by golf reporter Gabby Herzig for one of the most fascinating golf-business conversations of the year.

  • LIV becoming a “zombie league”
  • Netflix, Amazon, or Apple buying LIV
  • The PGA Tour taking Saudi money

  • And whether LIV even survives past 2027
Plus:
  • Why Rory McIlroy accidentally ended up in The Devil Wears Prada 2
  • Inside reporting stories from the LIV chaos after Augusta
  • What it’s really like covering golf at the center of geopolitics and billion-dollar negotiations
This is one of the deepest and most honest conversations yet about where professional golf is actually headed.

Masters week is here—and this one’s special.

Kyle Porter is joined by major champion Webb Simpson for a wide-ranging conversation on Augusta National, what it really feels like to contend on Sunday, and the tiny details that make the Masters unlike anything else in golf.

Webb shares:
→ What makes Augusta National so deceptively difficult
→ Why the Masters Tournament demands precision over perfection
→ His near-miss in 2019 (and the one putt he’d take back)
→ The chaos of playing alongside Tiger Woods during his iconic win
→ Why the Par 3 Contest might be the best day in golf

Plus, a look inside Webb’s mindset, how he’s grown as a player over nearly two decades on Tour, and how faith and golf intersect in his life and podcast.
If you love Augusta, this is as close as it gets to being inside the ropes.

Why would a company spend $30 million to sponsor a PGA Tour event?

Kyle sits down with Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter to break down the real economics behind golf sponsorships.

From sleeve logos and hat deals to title sponsors and Pro-Am access, the business of golf is much more complicated than just putting a logo on TV. In many cases, the real value comes from something else entirely: access.
