But Lorna Cole, Renee Russo’s character in LETHAL WEAPON 3, was the first feeling seen pick that Amber came up with, and the more she examined the pick, the righter it felt.

You may not remember 2000's Wonder Boys, but The Flop House's Dan McCoy does. He and Jordan discuss this Michael Chabon adaptation, starring Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire. It's a part of Dan's DVD collection; for Jordan, it was a first-time watch. For his latest book, BREAK THE FRAME, culture writer Kevin Smokler interviewed 24 prominent female filmmakers about their rich and varied careers. One of those filmmakers, Patricia Cardoso, directed the 2002 movie that introduced the world to a 17-year-old America Ferrera: REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES. Despite their surface differences (to state the obvious, Kevin is not a young Latina child of immigrants from the barrio of Los Angeles), the movie has spoken to Kevin since it first came out, and has become the film he's most likely to recommend. Actor Alex Winter may be best known as the Bill half of Bill and Ted -- and he's currently treading the boards with his counterpart from the Bill & Ted movies, Keanu Reeves, in a Broadway production of Waiting for Godot. Paul W.S. RaMell Ross is a multi time Academy-Award nominee in documentary and narrative, a filmmaker, photographer, academic, and writer. You may have seen his directorial debut Hale County This Morning, This Evening, an experimental documentary about black life in Hale County, Alabama. 

RaMell's most recent directorial work is the historical drama Nickel Boys, based on the novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead. Shea Serrano’s writing credits run deep. He’s written for publications like The Ringer and Grantland. He’s also penned several books: The Rap Year Book, Basketball (and Other Things) and Movies (and Other Things). He’s also written, created, and directed projects like the film Miguel Wants to Fight, the Freevee sitcom Primo, and the Netflix series Neon. 

His most recent project is a book titled Werewolf Lawyer – A Thomas Atwell Legal Thriller. It’s a story about a lawyer who has to defend a werewolf accused of murdering his human wife. All of the evidence points toward the werewolf's guilt. But he swears he didn't do it!  It's a production of HALFWAY BOOKS, a digital publishing company created by Serrano. First time feature director Sean Wang wanted a story that only he could tell, specific yet relatable. Today, director David Bruckner talks with Jordan about feeling seen by Holly Hunter's character, Jane Craig, in the 1987 classic, BROADCAST NEWS. Directed by James L. Brooks, it's a journalism....satire? rom-com? dramedy?... starring Hunter, Albert Brooks, and William Hurt. It's one of those movies that is so prescient about what news media would become. And for David Bruckner -- whose latest film is this year's HELLRAISER -- saw in it some parallels with what it feels like to be a creator in any medium.

Actor Noah Segan -- or, should we say, writer/director/producer/actor Noah Segan -- is the star and creative force behind his directorial debut, BLOOD RELATIVES. In it, he plays a century-old, lone-wolf vampire who suddenly has a teenage daughter to think about. Segan, a dad himself, chose another suddenly-a-father character for today's epsiode: H.I. McDonnough (Nicolas Cage) from the 1987 Coen Brothers comedy Raising Arizona. Listen and learn how fatherhood, creative genesis, vampirism, and work/life balance are all mixed into the space between these two films, made 35 years apart.
