Spirit Outspoken.

00:01:56.555 --> 00:02:02.978
I am Rachel Loney joined by my amazing co host.

00:02:03.308 --> 00:02:14.368
Jessa and Gasser and together, we are thrilled to be here today to kick off our brand new podcast that has been in the works for months now, called Spirit Outspoken.

00:02:14.739 --> 00:02:29.411
And we thought it would be a pretty good idea to hop on this morning and share a little bit about how we got started on this journey, who we are, how we became friends, and what we hope Personally, to get out of this and also what we hope you get out of it.

00:02:29.600 --> 00:02:30.131
Perfect.

00:02:30.151 --> 00:02:31.521
That sounds like a plan to me.

00:02:31.561 --> 00:02:31.971
Yeah.

00:02:31.980 --> 00:02:39.612
So Jessa, do you want to take it away and talk about our friendship and how we came to this decision to start this together.

00:02:39.703 --> 00:02:40.603
Absolutely.

00:02:40.703 --> 00:02:44.052
So let's see, we've been friends for what, almost five years now?

00:02:44.133 --> 00:02:44.442
Yeah.

00:02:44.442 --> 00:02:45.173
Which is crazy.

00:02:45.182 --> 00:02:45.612
It's crazy.

00:02:45.612 --> 00:02:46.372
It's gone so fast.

00:02:46.383 --> 00:02:47.233
It's flown by.

00:02:47.332 --> 00:02:49.442
And I'm a better person after meeting you, Rachel.

00:02:49.492 --> 00:02:49.992
Ditto.

00:02:50.643 --> 00:02:51.413
Ditto, my friend.

00:02:51.413 --> 00:02:51.742
Yeah.

00:02:51.742 --> 00:02:53.133
No, I would say.

00:02:53.143 --> 00:02:53.182
Yeah.

00:02:53.182 --> 00:02:53.423
Yeah.

00:02:53.802 --> 00:02:58.673
You are the main reason I feel that I've been set off on this spiritual journey.

00:02:58.723 --> 00:03:10.396
It started off in the kitchen where we were just chit chatting about some weird or unique experiences I was having intuition and kind of discovering some of my own spiritual abilities.

00:03:10.706 --> 00:03:12.566
And I didn't really know what to do with it.

00:03:12.626 --> 00:03:17.516
You connected me with resources to really help set me on my way.

00:03:17.805 --> 00:03:21.316
And I knew ever since then we would not stop talking about spirituality.

00:03:21.316 --> 00:03:27.865
Our poor yapping about listening to what I saw today.

00:03:28.891 --> 00:03:33.521
The angels were speaking to me and they're like, all right, you weirdos, go get some wine and drink elsewhere.

00:03:34.021 --> 00:03:41.941
But really, you have always been a tremendous resource I could always tell you these weird, crazy things that were happening and you would just.

00:03:42.555 --> 00:03:45.365
Open arms, accept me and accept them.

00:03:45.375 --> 00:03:51.346
And it was always a safe space to just share and explain the unexplainable that was happening.

00:03:51.346 --> 00:03:55.776
And a lot of things that I was really uncomfortable to talk about out loud Hey, Rach, like this is happening.

00:03:55.776 --> 00:03:59.446
Or I saw that, or I experienced this and what do I do with this?

00:03:59.495 --> 00:03:59.915
Yeah.

00:04:00.026 --> 00:04:02.425
And I always thought that was really interesting.

00:04:02.425 --> 00:04:12.646
You've always just, your demeanor has always been really safe and open and welcoming and Oh yeah, no, nothing like starting a podcast to share with your best friend how you're feeling about them.

00:04:13.066 --> 00:04:20.566
But sincerely of course, subsequent things happened since we first met and I should probably share a little bit about myself and who I am.

00:04:20.576 --> 00:04:20.975
So yeah.

00:04:20.975 --> 00:04:21.036
Yeah.

00:04:21.555 --> 00:04:35.745
I am a mother of three beautiful boys and my husband Charlie and I experienced a life altering event last year where our second oldest son was diagnosed with leukemia.

00:04:36.156 --> 00:04:40.336
We went into a doctor's office fully expecting to hear worst case scenario.

00:04:40.336 --> 00:04:41.295
He had asthma.

00:04:41.326 --> 00:04:48.495
And instead learned that he had a ginormous tumor in his chest that it was taking over basically his entire body.

00:04:48.495 --> 00:04:51.206
There was cancer on every square inch of him.

00:04:51.816 --> 00:05:04.696
Things quite literally changed in an instant, and In terms of our friendship you were the one that just hopped right on the spiritual bandwagon with me I mean we had hundreds of people praying for us for sure.

00:05:04.786 --> 00:05:10.055
Yeah, but the multiple they touch points of okay, I'm doing this meditation for you.

00:05:10.055 --> 00:05:11.906
I'm praying this for you.

00:05:12.196 --> 00:05:14.156
I'm visualizing health, right?

00:05:14.165 --> 00:05:25.506
Like really aligning to my belief system and what I believe to be true and the outcomes that we can have as moms, friends, people, you were right there in it with me.

00:05:25.555 --> 00:05:27.865
From day one and you've been since the beginning.

00:05:27.865 --> 00:05:39.838
So for me, This is really full circle for us to take a personally tragic event that you've obviously been very close to and you've experienced, almost as much of it as I have, right?

00:05:39.838 --> 00:05:52.778
Like you're watching it from the outside and you know exactly what's going on to now being at a place where we both are really feeling called to bring health, wellness, spirituality to other people, right?

00:05:52.858 --> 00:05:56.368
We both have unique experiences that have brought us to this path.

00:05:56.978 --> 00:06:04.668
And I think it would be really cool for you to share your experience and why you're interested in doing this and how we got here.

00:06:04.788 --> 00:06:05.158
Yeah.

00:06:05.238 --> 00:06:15.938
I think you said that perfectly about how it all comes full circle because the longer I live this life, the more I see that pattern of even when things happen to us.

00:06:16.139 --> 00:06:16.168
Yes.

00:06:16.558 --> 00:06:20.308
That are scary or terrible or tragic.

00:06:20.918 --> 00:06:39.118
There's this amazing way that God or the universe, whatever you want to call it, just this amazing way of it somehow becoming this beautifully transformed experience in your life that has a way of changing you on a very deep soul level and then allowing you to share that with others, which is just amazing.

00:06:39.428 --> 00:06:47.449
Incredible and beautiful and what it's all about really that we ourselves can heal and then be a resource for others to do the same.

00:06:47.628 --> 00:06:50.028
So we met during COVID, I believe, right?

00:06:50.069 --> 00:06:50.868
On the golf course.

00:06:51.153 --> 00:06:56.274
Was it probably, yeah, it had COVID because that was like when I first started golfing.

00:06:56.283 --> 00:06:56.653
Yeah.

00:06:56.653 --> 00:06:58.444
All of us, we needed something to do.

00:06:58.454 --> 00:07:02.593
I was like, our husbands can go do something safe outside for multiple hours and drink.

00:07:02.593 --> 00:07:04.003
I guess I golf now too.

00:07:04.024 --> 00:07:04.324
Yes.

00:07:04.673 --> 00:07:04.834
Yeah.

00:07:04.834 --> 00:07:06.493
I know we all hopped on that bandwagon.

00:07:07.563 --> 00:07:08.084
Exactly.

00:07:08.274 --> 00:07:14.653
So my backstory I have had a lot of grief woven throughout my life in different ways.

00:07:15.063 --> 00:07:17.944
My father passed away in a car accident when I was 10.

00:07:18.204 --> 00:07:24.373
My brother, after my dad's passing, was troubled and lost and eventually, got into drugs and alcohol.

00:07:24.373 --> 00:07:33.933
So watching someone go through addiction and seeing them literally transform into someone you don't even recognize is grief in a different form.

00:07:34.543 --> 00:07:43.206
And then eventually went on and struggled with infertility for a while and that was a long journey of grief and just feeling completely out of control.

00:07:43.206 --> 00:07:55.356
My sister in law Passed away tragically from suicide and then two years later, I lost my brother to a drug overdose and I just say all this to lead me now into COVID.

00:07:55.466 --> 00:07:58.317
And COVID stirred in me.

00:07:58.572 --> 00:08:06.891
A huge trauma response because I'm terrified, obviously, of losing people I love when we saw the news and we didn't know what this thing was.

00:08:07.351 --> 00:08:11.771
And we just heard about all these people dying and it was coming our direction.

00:08:11.991 --> 00:08:19.741
and the stakes this time around with having two children, My anxiety just soared on top of being home with kids 24 seven.

00:08:19.741 --> 00:08:24.182
And on top of just like the regular stress, I had just that I was experiencing some.

00:08:24.197 --> 00:08:27.887
levels of stress that I had never experienced before.

00:08:27.937 --> 00:08:36.517
Panic attacks and, I had vertigo and numbness and tingling in my extremities and heart palpitations and hearing loss in one year.

00:08:36.517 --> 00:08:40.747
Just like these bizarre things, which only then make the anxiety worse.

00:08:41.187 --> 00:08:51.241
But it was, A blessing and that I started looking to God what are some spiritual ways and meditative ways that I can get my cortisol levels down in addition to medication.

00:08:51.282 --> 00:08:52.522
I am not opposed.

00:08:53.012 --> 00:08:55.851
Oh yeah we frequently interchanged medication and.

00:08:56.382 --> 00:08:58.922
Meditation here on spirit outspoken.

00:08:58.922 --> 00:09:05.912
Just and I know that can be controversial, but I just think that some points life gets to be too much, like it's too much.

00:09:05.951 --> 00:09:08.562
And every once in a while we all need a little leg up.

00:09:08.662 --> 00:09:18.777
And for me, At that point, it was just what I needed to allow my nervous system to calm down a little bit so that I could actually go deeper in my healing.

00:09:18.797 --> 00:09:19.456
Does that make sense?

00:09:19.716 --> 00:09:26.606
Because when I was up here and all over the place I couldn't even get down to where anything was helpful.

00:09:26.777 --> 00:09:29.716
And I just say that as like a public service announcement.

00:09:29.716 --> 00:09:29.777
Yeah.

00:09:29.777 --> 00:09:31.866
If anyone's struggling, don't be ashamed of that.

00:09:31.966 --> 00:09:37.507
'cause I had tried everything too and it took someone looking at me and saying, you've tried everything.

00:09:37.557 --> 00:09:38.157
it's okay.

00:09:38.336 --> 00:09:38.517
Yeah.

00:09:38.517 --> 00:09:41.187
Like it's okay to take the medication if you need it.

00:09:41.366 --> 00:09:41.486
Yeah.

00:09:41.486 --> 00:09:42.687
And it's very helpful Absolutely.

00:09:42.687 --> 00:09:43.437
When people really need it.

00:09:43.466 --> 00:09:43.706
Okay.

00:09:44.326 --> 00:09:49.293
But it was during that time that my spirituality just took on a life of its own.

00:09:49.360 --> 00:09:55.930
It was like, all of a sudden I was looking at everything through fresh eyes and seeing things in a totally new, different way.

00:09:56.379 --> 00:09:59.680
And the best part was I was truly healing.

00:09:59.910 --> 00:10:02.900
Inside I was becoming a different person.

00:10:02.940 --> 00:10:05.030
I felt different in my own skin.

00:10:05.220 --> 00:10:20.930
I saw the world differently I showed up differently as a spouse as a mom as a friend and I was like, oh my gosh, like how long I've been living this one way and This is what it's all about, right?

00:10:20.940 --> 00:10:22.060
And I'm still growing.

00:10:22.060 --> 00:10:23.820
I don't want to make it sound like I have it all figured out.

00:10:24.180 --> 00:10:24.379
I don't.

00:10:24.390 --> 00:10:25.020
Nobody does.

00:10:25.120 --> 00:10:28.150
Because it's continual work that we'll all continue to do throughout our lives.

00:10:28.170 --> 00:10:36.270
But that's what just created and ignited this passion in me to want to help other people see this and experience this.

00:10:36.350 --> 00:10:42.870
And even if I can be one small little, piece of helping somebody grow, that's amazing.

00:10:42.910 --> 00:10:48.340
So it was after that I decided to go back to school and become a certified integrative health coach.

00:10:48.750 --> 00:11:01.320
And, it's funny how all of a sudden you start meeting people who align and just like with you, all of a sudden, constant conversations about healing and growth and spirituality and all these things.

00:11:01.740 --> 00:11:06.390
So yeah, I just really believe that there's a reason we were brought together and hopefully we can both.

00:11:06.820 --> 00:11:08.620
Do and put some good out into the world.

00:11:09.180 --> 00:11:10.000
No, I agree.

00:11:10.000 --> 00:11:18.340
I guess it's the older you get too, you realize that it's the traumatic events that have the biggest positive impact on your life.

00:11:18.480 --> 00:11:19.000
Absolutely.

00:11:19.009 --> 00:11:20.560
Because we're not going to turn to God.

00:11:20.560 --> 00:11:22.370
We're not going to turn to spirituality.

00:11:22.825 --> 00:11:25.865
If everything is just hunky dory all the time, right?

00:11:25.895 --> 00:11:54.665
And when you say that you are a completely different person, I look back to the person that walked into the doctor's office before I knew my son had cancer, and I look at myself today and I am a completely different person and I am so thankful for the changes that have taken place in my life because, trauma has such a incredible way of waking you up and realizing what's important to you.

00:11:54.995 --> 00:12:05.085
And I think too, that when you ask for help, when you turn to God, when you surrender, it's like, You will be directed on a path that shows you where to go next.

00:12:05.085 --> 00:12:18.307
And I think what's really beautiful is that the subsequent things that have happened for both of us have led us here, and what a beautiful thing that we, and I can say regardless of the amount of.

00:12:18.648 --> 00:12:20.588
Trauma and grief you've been through.

00:12:20.888 --> 00:12:25.978
You are one of the most positive, happy just bright individuals.

00:12:26.068 --> 00:12:46.768
And I think that speaks to what spirituality can do and what faith can do I think when you make a decision to have it work for you, not against you really amazing things can happen and it can change us in the best way, if we can, share our own experience and help other people that are in a tough spot or going through things and.

00:12:47.268 --> 00:12:52.278
Want tools or resources or other shared experiences to hang on to.

00:12:52.418 --> 00:12:52.668
Yes.

00:12:52.768 --> 00:12:54.278
And just to feel that you're not alone.

00:12:54.338 --> 00:12:56.158
Everyone has a story, right?

00:12:56.258 --> 00:12:57.427
Everyone has a story.

00:12:57.438 --> 00:12:58.668
Everyone has hardship.

00:12:58.698 --> 00:13:02.368
None of us are, able to get through this life without experiencing that.

00:13:02.368 --> 00:13:07.118
So I think sometimes to hear other people's experiences and stories and know that you're not alone.

00:13:07.148 --> 00:13:07.368
Yep.

00:13:07.648 --> 00:13:09.708
And to know that, we're all.

00:13:10.213 --> 00:13:16.913
Working together to try to do the best we can and what are the tools and ways that can help us through these really hard times?

00:13:17.313 --> 00:13:17.903
Absolutely.

00:13:18.033 --> 00:13:18.333
Yeah.

00:13:18.843 --> 00:13:31.848
One thing I want to make sure we mention is how we are going to help people because one of the really important things that we talked about when we started this Was making sure that there's educational application of this.

00:13:31.968 --> 00:13:36.108
How do I take what we talk about on this show and apply it to my daily life?

00:13:36.498 --> 00:13:40.268
So do you want to share how we're going to set things up and what they can expect?

00:13:40.398 --> 00:13:40.888
Yes.

00:13:40.908 --> 00:14:05.563
And I think it's really important for both of us because we understand through our own conversations, our own dialogue with other individuals and especially women, They are looking for something, and I don't necessarily mean this is in replace of their existing cultural or religious or spiritual beliefs, but they're looking for something deeper or more profound that connect them in a more meaningful way.

00:14:06.008 --> 00:14:09.458
And us just talking about it, I think is one part, right?

00:14:09.488 --> 00:14:14.427
But we really want to arm people like you mentioned with resources and ways to get started at home.

00:14:14.778 --> 00:14:21.258
So what that can look like are, suggested meditations journal prompts reading resources, right?

00:14:21.258 --> 00:14:24.118
Like things that they can leverage or kind of homework, if you will.

00:14:24.118 --> 00:14:24.908
It's fun homework.

00:14:24.908 --> 00:14:25.398
I promise.

00:14:25.398 --> 00:14:25.598
Yeah.

00:14:25.798 --> 00:14:26.677
I don't like boring homework.

00:14:26.948 --> 00:14:32.613
And that individuals can do after each episode to learn more and develop that practice.

00:14:32.613 --> 00:14:38.403
And everybody's going to be drawn to certain practices more so than others or certain aspects of spirituality.

00:14:38.403 --> 00:14:39.673
So figure out what works for you.

00:14:39.703 --> 00:14:43.523
But after every single episode, I promise we won't leave you hanging.

00:14:43.523 --> 00:14:46.458
We'll always give you materials to either learn more about it.

00:14:46.628 --> 00:14:59.748
or develop it or, facilitate it with a friend or a small group because it's all about, self development and growing closer to not only God, but to your friends and community and spirituality is such a good way to do that.

00:14:59.858 --> 00:15:00.628
Absolutely.

00:15:00.988 --> 00:15:02.788
And we want it to be fun, right?

00:15:02.838 --> 00:15:11.358
We've had a lot of discussions about that too, is that sometimes we feel like spirituality has this heavy or deep or serious kind of tone to it.

00:15:11.378 --> 00:15:12.628
It can be a snooze fest, let's be honest.

00:15:12.628 --> 00:15:12.758
Yeah.

00:15:13.268 --> 00:15:14.908
But it can also fun.

00:15:15.057 --> 00:15:16.898
And you can be really playful with it.

00:15:16.908 --> 00:15:16.938
Yes.

00:15:16.948 --> 00:15:19.568
And you can try things and just see if you like it.

00:15:19.578 --> 00:15:21.588
You don't have to incorporate those practices forever.

00:15:21.588 --> 00:15:30.057
God forbid people laugh, but yeah, just to bring joy and lightness to this too is another part of what we're trying to accomplish.

00:15:30.068 --> 00:15:31.828
Isn't that medicine all in of itself?

00:15:32.088 --> 00:15:32.888
It really is.

00:15:33.108 --> 00:15:33.748
I know.

00:15:33.798 --> 00:15:35.898
A place where people can feel connected.

00:15:36.148 --> 00:15:36.358
Yeah.

00:15:36.368 --> 00:15:38.328
Just here's some positive.

00:15:38.328 --> 00:15:38.348
Yeah.

00:15:38.418 --> 00:15:39.458
News, right?

00:15:39.468 --> 00:15:45.228
Like the world can feel really heavy, especially on an election year and all the other things going on in the world right now.

00:15:45.668 --> 00:15:55.898
Just to have a place to plug in and be inspired and feel supported and feel seen and hopefully understood and grow and evolve as people.

00:15:55.998 --> 00:15:56.368
Absolutely.

00:15:57.338 --> 00:15:59.307
And Rach and I have talked about this.

00:15:59.378 --> 00:16:01.078
We want to.

00:16:01.648 --> 00:16:03.418
Really collaborate with our community.

00:16:03.418 --> 00:16:09.608
So the best way to do that is to follow us on Tik TOK or Instagram, whatever your social platform is of choice.

00:16:09.978 --> 00:16:12.338
We are going to be setting up an email newsletter.

00:16:12.578 --> 00:16:14.338
We're going to be having blogs.

00:16:14.598 --> 00:16:23.778
So listen, if there is something in particular that you're interested about learning more of, or something that you have found particularly interesting or powerful in your own life, we want to hear about it.

00:16:23.778 --> 00:16:25.638
Yes, because we would love the ideas.

00:16:25.638 --> 00:16:29.648
Trust me, we've got ideas up the wazoo, but.

00:16:29.648 --> 00:16:29.677
Okay.

00:16:29.758 --> 00:16:35.158
We're always open for, yes, we want to talk about things that listeners are interested in learning about.

00:16:35.158 --> 00:16:42.358
So please feel free to reach out, send us a DM, comments share our posts with other friends and your community.

00:16:42.358 --> 00:16:46.248
We, we want to get as much feedback and input as possible.

00:16:46.288 --> 00:16:47.128
Absolutely.

00:16:47.158 --> 00:16:49.158
But we are so excited.

00:16:49.168 --> 00:16:49.557
We're excited.

00:16:49.557 --> 00:16:50.068
Thrilled.

00:16:50.078 --> 00:16:50.248
Yeah.

00:16:50.318 --> 00:16:51.038
Honored.

00:16:51.478 --> 00:16:52.078
To be here.

00:16:52.488 --> 00:16:52.758
Yes.

00:16:52.758 --> 00:16:54.648
It's just a wonderful opportunity for us.

00:16:54.668 --> 00:16:55.448
Absolutely.

00:16:55.498 --> 00:16:59.698
