 Hello, hello, hello
 New entry Wow
Proof for a loop there. I always do the same thing. I'm like it's kind of become my thing
But like I just thought I'd just go what's up? Hello. I'm shaking not stirred
What's going on guys welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast here is the Radcast news Friday
 August 19th
 2022
Kristine Aussie welcome back your back one little hiatus. I did how was it? It was good
I was working on new plays with actors from Hulu shows
So I was way out of my depth, but it was great. That's good. Did you learn anything? Oh, yeah, I did
 That's a very smart people. That's good
I made the mistake of googling them. I was like
Okay, you actually are you say you are real. Yes. That's cool. Yeah, very cool very good very good
It is a weekly marketing and advertising and business news edition
We've had a good week Kristine is back from playwriting or whatever
Play festival. Yeah, new play festival
Nick you had a good week. Yeah, it was great. Good weekend. Mm-hmm. Now we're heading into another one
Yeah, time for me. It's Friday almost September
Yeah, I mean just you should be celebrating today. You know being a creative. I'm gonna give give away a little bit
We go early in the show notes national photo day. That's right. That's not a world photo day
Yeah, no take a tutorial last longer. Oh, they
Take a screenshot. If you know what that was originally from what movie you guys are so young you'll never get this
Take a picture of last longer. It's not goonies. Is this is something with Jim Carey? Nope
It was I think it was settled a little differently, but
Peewee's big adventure. Oh, okay, they said it and then they also said I think in back to the future something else
Had it back to the future. I didn't know Peewee's big adventure had a a riff off of that kind of line. I've never seen it
 Peewee's big adventure. Come on
Have you seen it Nick? I've never seen that one large Marge come on
You know what some Peewee's big adventure. I was like the funniest movie ever and I was a kid added to the list
 It's very silly
 It's
We were talking pre-upside my wife Nicole
Is not a huge comedy person and you know bringing that movie up
I can think of one movie that she would walk out on in like the first ten minutes Peewee's big adventure would be it
 Probably dead, but
It's been a good week at radical. We've had a
blistering actually cooler week as far as temperature goes, but I
Feel like the week is rough together as far as yeah heating up work wise lots of stuff going on
We've finished a really fun shoot last week. Yeah, but editing this week for sheets and giggles
Mattress shoot what a mattress. Yeah, Christina was involved in that and her multi-talented. We use everyone's talent to the max
We like lots of hats acting producing
Show running everything. Yes. Yes multi-talented and but it's gonna be fun on their new mattress
Coming out and so be on the look for that. We'll share that content if you fall along any of radicals channels
Which you should be at radical results on Instagram and so a lot of content a lot of video and
Lots of a new possibilities. I'll leave it there, but it's been a good week. I saw this bit of news here right before
Yes, they do you know anything with large round numbers gets my attention
 Ha
 Pen entertainment who purchased
36% of barstool sports in 2020 for 163 million
Just finished by the remaining shares for 387 million which by my bad math gets to around
150 550-ish somewhere close to have like saving for it after the initial 163 like oh man if we drink big
They're casino. They're like casino base. They print money
It's like me to go gambling and those like yes, but Dave Portnoy
Who was already hurting for money is suddenly now a gazillion there again?
Happy for Dave good for him hey smart guy
You know that you like lover hate the platform or everything he says
He is a brilliant marketer in media maven I'll call him
And he knows what's popular. Yes, he does from a combination of the masses. Sometimes the race to the bottom, but he gets there and I heard
You know good good phrase good phrase. Yes
When I so like all right, let's do a little unplanned un
I go off notes, but it's related to Portnoy and barstool
Like what's the first thing when I say barstool sports
What comes to mind? What's like the first thing that comes to mind for me Instagram
Okay, but like maybe specific to the genre of content like what do you like what's the I think comedy before I think sports
Yeah, but I might I'm probably not the target audience
 For it
Nick comedy comedy. Yeah, yeah, just kind of slapstick. Yep mainstream goofy like
I mean, I send it to people the day they they produce now a lot of original content. Yeah, but
If you follow like the main account
There's riff in like they find the funniest video people send them stuff. Yes
That's the thing is when you become the machine. They are people send them all the best stuff like they're like American's funniest home videos
Irreverent home videos like if we are rated American funniest home videos
Get sent to there where it's stupidest thing like two three golfing buddies
Whatever they do getting drunk in a golf cart and they go slam it into something to race in that thing to barstool
Yeah, it's it's out there. Yep
But uh, yeah, they do gambling everything else now to you, but
Dave Portnoy congratulations on the clothes for 387 million
 Uh
Can not success. No cannot yes, I found this interesting so the you know going from Portnoy
On the heels of those on the heels, but you know, we like to give perspective here
And I'm gonna give a little perspective because you know the last three to four months
All you've heard in the news is recession talk and so it admittedly
There's a lot of data out there that's been in his load and there's things that
 That align with that
But what I did as I didn't analysis and a nixx shows is if you watch any of the video
You'll see the search trends of the term recession and how low they were in February and March
 Yeah
But the news started talking about it. And so this is the search trends for people
 Searching for a research recession
And so what I think happens
And this is not a conspiracy theory
Not totally, but what I think is
The news we can create if the news talks about it you can create the perception
 and so
 Yes
There's been a shift in spending some of the government money is not in the market anymore
There's stuff and inflation has caused stuff, but inflation has been around and the housing market sucks
Yeah, but the inflation has been around for a couple years like bread has been
More expensive gas has been more expensive, so it's like last 18 months right and we weren't in recession 12 months ago
 You know
But the news starts talking about it. It's like it builds sentiment and I feel like the news can control the sentiment so that people then that
Might start pulling back and saving because oh we're in a recession. Okay, that's just been less. I should do this
You know like right. I'm not saying people shouldn't be physically responsible
But I'm saying is the news and the sentiment of the news
Well, you plant the seed you plant the seed and if you start going you make people even though
Most like everyone are radical no one's financial situation has drastically changed, you know
In any way, yeah, maybe arrays here and there, but nobody's gone. My rent has gone up. Well, okay
So that's it inflationary stuff, so I'm not saying there's
But like not in the last 60 days like well, and it's also interesting because a lot of retailers are overbought
Because it was a mass response to pandemic fear and so a lot of things are actually on sale and are more inexpensive
 Because there's you know, it's
They're overbought. There's too much stuff, but the news is scared to shit at everyone
Exactly, so like it's controlling the narrative
That's what I'm getting at is like the power of the news cycle and the power of like what you talk about
And if like like tomorrow like if we and the radcast is pretty popular. Let's let's not lie
We can we can push narrative here. We can we can control sentiment at the radcasts
If you're listening help me control this. Let's all start posting that we're out of a recession
Like if we just started running running articles it says recession fears
 subside and whatever
What I think spending would go up
Even though there's no financial change necessarily if sentiment changes
Then the spending changes. Yeah, and so
Self-fulfilling prophecy. Yeah, so and look the reality is the economy kind of needs a little bit these ups and downs
That you pull back on some of the inflation I think like the government needs
The people spend a little less the inflation goes down right you know, so they get reelected. Oh, it's in close
Just saying there's my conspiracy theory for today. So I don't watch the news and spend your money
I've been told there's a recession. I'm just choosing not to participate
Yeah, it's like the Elliott wave theory. Have you heard of that the what the Elliott wave theory? Well, what is that?
It's a form of technical analysis that looks at recurrent long-term price patterns related to persistent
Changes investor sentiment and psychology. Uh-huh. There you have it
But if you tell everybody we're in a recession even if their financial position
 hasn't really changed
They're gonna start acting like they're in a recession
 Mm-hmm
Something to think about here today on the radcast
So if you're out there and you know you're buying all the talk. Let's not buy it. Let's just make it
Like it's 19 what's this 1970 something what was the the song
When it's wonderful like back when it whatever it was there's a year that like was so wonderful
Anyway, you know 2008 2008 that's what it was so that was real because yeah a few thousand bubble
There was a lot of uh bad loans and that one that one was it just the news talk
Have you seen the big short then maybe about it? Yes. Yes. It's kind of scary. It's unnerving
It's unnerving, but that's but that's kind of what I'm saying is like someone's controlling the strings, right? Oh, yeah
I don't think anyone has that
Some one or something we'll see
 um
Back to some wider news the radcast has

Like it's cool like literally so you do know you're doing a plank. Oh, yeah
So you do all this board and you put your phone at your face level
And he has an app and a game so that balance thing is kind of like you know kind of like driving
You know like turning or whatever and you gamified being in a plank. Oh my god. I would love that genius
Genius, I tell you genius. I tell you if I had any sound effects. I'd give you hitting them ding

Photo day world photo day big deal
Big hashtag. I'm gonna celebrate this with Savaca. Yes on Saturday
 Not my card
 Absolutely
National lemonade day national lemonade day. That's my dad's birthday too. I like I'm a lemonade fan same
I grew up loving some lemonade. I used to do a little lemonade stand every summer. It's like my house
My kids do those now. It's turned into water and popsicle. Hey kid's me like a hundred bucks at our house
Oh, we did we did well back in the day. Yeah, I'm like holy shit. I'm in the wrong field
I mean food in bed, right?
 No, I'm not Nick
 And then the 21st Sunday
National Spoo Money Day very good
I know freaking clue. Yeah, I had to google it too. I thought it was something a little funky
You know and in a way it is, but it's not dirty. It's just it's ice cream
It looks more like a meringue or something. It's gelato technically. It looks pretty nasty. It looks you show that picture
I'm kind of attached to the guy with that kind of stuff. I'm like nah. It's ice cream with toppings in it
It's a never-me dog's just like a Neapolitan Sunday National Spoo Money Day
You're in Brooklyn. You can get some anywhere else. That's a well. Yeah. Well on Monday
National be an angel day. Mm-hmm two kind things you're just an angel
All times you don't even need a day for it. No, thank you. Thank you. I just radiate light and good things. Yes
Uh, I'm gonna get Nick some wings
Like like that we eat. We'll call it angel angel wings. There you go. Eat those things. Good idea. Yeah, we're in

Yeah, National Cuban Sandwich Day. It's Tuesday. I'm gonna forget this
We talk about these social holidays and I forget to plug a couple of them on my phone
Totally, but National Cuban Sandwich Day. I'd like you so good
 So
Anyone want to send me a Cuban sandwich? Send it on there you go
Yeah, if you're locally in Greenville made ideally we aren't shipping those unless uh, I don't know
That could be some funky funky smell. Yes
Send me a lemonade with a nice Cuban sandwich on the Tuesday or Wednesday with Spamoney. It's dessert
August 23rd National Cuban Sandwich Day
Don't forget all your favorite social holidays
And if there's one you'd like for us to mention, you know, let us know let us know. Maybe we're missing it. Don't you know about it
We got some social media news. We do per usual
TikTok is fast becoming a key search and discovery platform for younger audiences
This was fascinating to me. I agree could be a competitor for Google
Google senior vice president said in our studies something like almost 40% of young people when you're looking for a place for lunch
They don't go to Google. They go to TikTok or Instagram
 Fascinating. I
Can't say that I mean, I'm in social media a lot either from my own thing. Yeah for work
And I guess I search for people certainly. Yeah, obviously profiles
See TikTok is my go-to it's not maybe not for activity. I've not looked at like restaurants
But I've done recipes if I'm cooking at home like to do with my air fryer or whatever
I go to TikTok for almost everything if I'm trying to figure out what I'm gonna make
You're like looking up spooky like exactly exactly exactly
Give it away. I'm gonna surprise the office and bring it in damn
I'm gonna eat recipes way more than Google sugar and lemons
And water and vodka yes, yes, you know, it's really good. No, I'm getting really off track
But diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A. It's it's so good. I'll get better right. Are you two? Are you two? I don't know what it is
I don't know what they put in that stuff. Is that asked for day man? It's the asked for day
 It's good. No, that's my go-to
 Yeah, so anyway
 Yeah, this is interesting
Very surprising not surprising, but surprisingly. Yeah, curious they
Yeah, I just not is it use it as a search engine
Well, when I'm looking for a restaurant, I'll go on Apple Maps
Okay, but I like the fact that you can see it visually and you don't have to read about it
I think that might be a reason right like with with if you Google recipes in general you get a freaking blog
Yeah, it's a whole book. I would take talk on like I was three minutes and
There you go. I'm done. I mean, I know it's like YouTube his historic well
Which zone my Google but like is a search engine of sorts from similar type things, but
Obviously TikTok rising and importance as we've been telling you yeah, so it's only a matter of time before it leaks to the older audience
Like you're truly and I start searching for things. I just have I mean, I have searched for content specifically, but
Not just like every day stuff like they're saying like you know
Hard to know we didn't grow up with it. That's right
Very good. There's a little thing for you Nick
You think that loves dog for three years
 Um
Like this. Yeah because hey, we do ads for looing apple finds this next next big business showing ads on your phone
I you know like I didn't know this was new necessarily. I didn't either
But I mean, they've been all the anti ads
But it doesn't say they've been kind of the anti-ad like yeah, they're now it's brilliant to me
They're killing all the cookies. They're not allowed you to do any targeting because they're gonna sell all the ads
There you go. Thousand dollars for a phone still have ads apples advertising efforts today
Consistive display ads inside of its news and stock apps as well as inside the app store across the iPhone
 iPad and iMac
iPhone will eventually expand search ads to maps
It also will likely add them to digital storefronts like apple books and apple podcasts
And TV plus could generate more advertising with multiple tiers just like what Walt Disney and netflix and others are starting to do
 Yeah, I mean
 You know
This stuff's not free. So you know, you get a lot of services and things kind of built in
Whether or not you pay for it when you buy the hardware you can make that argument
Damn phones again, so expensive, but twelve hundred dollars that tops. It's fine. Yeah, it's still financing mine
But whatever yeah, I think I'm on the payment plan myself just because I'm like, uh
twelve more dollars out of pocket or
Okay, with an apple credit card. Absolutely. Yeah, no interest. All right. I'll take that take
 Free money on that credit
 but
 You know
It'll be interesting. I'll go at it from the podcast same way like because I'm familiar with that search engine because we're in there a lot
You're updating our stuff and looking at others and all that
Sing ads above it, but you know what if I can run podcast ads on the podcast. Yeah, he's to promote the show
Okay, with that. I don't want to see like head and shoulders in there. Sure sure
Or like that one thing you put on the side
No, we're a studio of great hair. It's yeah
It is interesting. Well, that's how you make money add placements add placements. They're not going away
Everybody thinks one day will not have ads. No, no
No, not everywhere. You just won't know you're being advertised too. That's right
Such as pack sun collaborating with virtual influencer Michaela for back to school ads. Have you seen Michaela?
No, I have not. I know she like don't know who that is. Yes. I know who it is entirely CGI. Yeah fake
 She's yep. She's totally computer-generated. Yes
And she's now there back to school mascot packs and wants to carve out a bigger stake in the metaverse
And is turning to one of the earliest examples of a virtual influencer to do so
Michaela which went live on Instagram in 2016 has frequently grabbed headlines and stoked controversy for acting as a purely artificial
 Brand ambassador and poster
 You know
 I'm all for innovation and
 it's just
 A little weird like
I know there's it's totally disingenuous on some levels when you pay a real person to promote your products sure if they don't actually
Like how to like the example we use earlier. I was a braided bills fan. They're now a sponsor of the show
You know like okay, there are some some level authenticity and we believe in the brand
If you just create an unreal person yeah CGI that's promoting the brand like it's just
Completely for me for me any authenticity and it rides the line between like are you a mascot or you
Is it entertainment and ambassador right and add right?
 Just shock value or both
Doesn't it be want to buy a product if it's a computer-generated woman and so like and look with all this deep fake stuff
It's coming all this something. It's like how do we not pay actors? Well, we just let's just create our so our own
 Listen, that's my industry
Yeah, sex and the yellows kell is gonna be taking all your gigs, you know, she's on this funniest. I am
You know she might be made to be a son of you
 You could steal your
She doesn't have the trauma doesn't have the drama you can't fake the drama
You can't you know, but I say this like
Go watch some of these specials on this stuff and it will freak you out with the bomb with some of this
Some of the AI and AI and like I can't fight innovation and there certainly uses for some of it but like
 I don't know this world
Is moving quickly to being I don't know not
Not what we intended it to be right right and it isn't like it will be very interesting to see the sustainability of it
Yeah, how long this is gonna last and if we're on the wrong side of it. Yeah
The robot exactly right, you know, these influencers turn into soldiers, you know
You know, I don't know not a zombie apocalypse a robot apocalypse. They can cheat up that metaverse. Don't come to our
 Exactly
The real verse you can keep worth to yeah
Tony the tiger is transforming into a great great very nice
 twitch or streamer
twitch streamer excuse me the first of its kind partnership sees the Kellogg brand tapping into the growing
Vtuber trend on twitch and follows other efforts that have taken the long-standing mascot to nascent
 digital platforms like tiktok
Kellogg's frosted flakes is updating its iconic Tony the tiger mascot
for a new generation by tapping into several emerging trends and channels
twitch averages more than 31 million daily visitors and is growing way for brands to engage with younger
digitally native consumers that are difficult to reach through traditional advertising
 You know lots of TV
There was a TV, but there was in Xbox right other gamers my kids do this like they watch other gamers game
Like that's all their plan fortnight or whatever, you know, right
 So it makes sense
But is Tony the tiger gonna be a CGI you know to mean back to the previous articles like
But at least but Tony the tiger's been around
 Great
He's very cute too on the little the little games
Yes, but I will say look if you're marketing to a younger demographic you need to be on twitch
Yep, you need to find influencers there. It's where kid the kids at
Hey, we said about tiktok, but that's but they are they're watching and there's also much money in twitch
In my focus group at home
Called the offer boys so much money
They they're they're watching this stuff. Yeah, and they're not watching terrestrial tv, right? So we're linear tv
So you need to be there. That's where they're at
But have a real influence or not a digital one yes, no AI
I love this next one so much Miller high life serves up dive bar inspired ice cream
I'm very food more motivated. I you had me at Miller high life
Like it's one of my favorite all-time campaign
Does the series that are kind of like semi-funny comedic but sort of serious now they've got solid ads
Yes, and now they have they've partnered with ice cream company tipsy scoop to produce a beer infused ice cream bar
Miller high life with the slogan
champagne of beers has long positioned itself as a class of yet economical brand
The upscale ice cream pops play into that brand image by putting a decadent elaborate spin on a cheap treat
The ice cream has a higher ABV than actual Miller high life
It's not insane. Yes, and I don't know it better tastes good
It has to taste good. It looks incredible like a beer beer flavors ice cream is getting a little mixing
I love the idea in the PR I think it'd be like a kind of almost like a rich flavor though. Okay. All right
 You know keep going keep
I'll order for the office. I'll bring it in. Yes. All right
Said it's a money. We'll do the actress in the Miller high life popsicles. Listen
I could make that work. Yeah, tipsy scoop. I do like that. I'd never heard of them. Right. I think they're in New York based the
Look the champagne of beers. That's all you need to know here. Oh, that's a great tagline. Yes. It's always been their tagline
 I had a little
Phase in college where I drank nothing but high life. I had a Bombay sapphire phase and I had a Miller high life
I had a Bombay sapphire phase and you know, what's funny is it is kind of like that classy
economical but like a lot of people kind of give me a little like funky look kind of like I'd like an OE or something
You know like a 40 I'm like give me this is the champagne of beers
Like you're advertising for them well before. Yes well before
I do like a high life though. It does it has a different flavor. It's uh
 Good rice cream
It's very rich and buttery. There it is

And I was Mario and the shit out of that thing. Yeah, like
 You know like so
Goes around comes around. It's not as as new as it seems just the
I think the social component the twitch component to be able to watch others
How to kill to be able to like learn how to do something right and at the wait for the magazine to come out with like the super
Super Mario tricks like I'll be oh god. I knew you had to do that. I would give my brother my device
