It has to start somewhere. It has to start some time. What better place than here? What better time than now? You're listening to the latest Radcast news update. Here's Ryan and Riley. Hey guys, what's up, Ryan, offered here on the latest episode of the Radcast for our weekly news edition with the lovely Riley Clark. What's up, Riley? Hello, hello, welcome back. Here we are. Happy holidays where it's festive in the podcasting studio. Thanks, Riley. Yes, got a little festive look in here and you can see it now. Tree and you can visualize this if you're listening to the audio. Imagine re-thanging over the television with colored balls and you know, just feeling very festive. Yes, I do need like some apple cider or something. Oh, we have someone tab. We could have brought some warm. Can you heat that up? I don't I think I think you technically could. I know anyway. Let's see what's up, Riley. How's the week been? It's been a good week. Feel like we've been very busy. I feel like I say that every week, but honestly, I think it's just the holidays. Everyone's getting a lot of stuff in the podcast is doing really well. Ad gab is starting to pick up some traction some more. So that's really awesome. So you haven't gotten a chance to listen to ad gab yet. It's on Ryan's Instagram. So if you go at at Ryan Alfred on Instagram, you'll be able to see the Instagram lives that go on on Wednesday, around 230. And that's fun. You go on with Josh Hill or a digital ad manager here. And so that's fun. But apart from that, what about you? Have you been been good busy new clients? You know, we've been growing in the fabric and textiles area of two or three new clients in that space on top of others that we already had. So website branding content ads. And then, you know, it seems to be coming back alive. We've certain things. A lot of people reaching back out for, I guess, wanted to get ahead for the new year. So business is good. And, you know, it's turning into we've got our holiday party tomorrow night. Yeah. So we're excited about that. We have that going on. So looking forward to that. And then it's just holiday stuff. You know, it comes with the time period. Right. Getting gifts for the kids and overwhelming them with way too many things. And of course, you know, like my wife talking and comparing lists, we've really got to get serious about this list. I'm like, oh, God. You know, where's the in that elf not like bring some gifts or something? No, right. Can the F not do the chores right? Yeah. All he does is Prince around the house, leaving messes everywhere that I have to clean up. I'm going to kill that son of a bitch. Hanging from the tree. Oh my gosh. The rope brought his neck. It's just stressful thing. Like we my my wife brought this kit. And, you know, we do all stuff with my kids. I don't listen to this podcast. I'm giving away all the secrets. My kids are all like under 10 or right around 10. And so they're still quasi believe in it. I think they play along like they do. They're like, where's the elf? Where's he at? But anyway, but every night it's like you're getting tired. It's later in the night. You're like, we forget half the time and my wife or by wake up and like in a cold sweat. Oh, we didn't move so you know, so exactly. That's what that's actually funny. We need a we need an office self. Yes, that is fine. As long as I'm not in charge of it. No, right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we had Santa Claus here yesterday. Yes, we do. We're shooting some content for several clients. We have a real live like legit Santa like this guy. He does the mall thing on the weekends, but you know, like growing up, I don't think they ever looked as legit as this guy does. Really? Is he in a bubble at the mall or how are they doing the mall ones? I don't know. I guess they're, you know, they're still doing pictures. I mean, it's like socially just six feet apart the photo. I don't know. Why do you want to know why they're not even doing the photos? He just goes and he's sitting there. So that's festive, you know, right, right to give it up, you know, the whole seasonality of it all, but yeah, but he was here and he's actually a pretty good actor for. Really? Yeah, we've used him several things. That's funny. I um, I felt like we were talking about this a little bit pre-show, but it's funny. Um, it's totally changing gears a little bit, but like I've been watching we've been watching different shows recently. Yeah, and I felt like, um, these are just ones I had to talk about the Queen's Gambit. I just have to because I finished it for the record last night. Well, okay, to be fair, to be fair, it's one season. It's a limited edition or it's a limited series on Netflix. And it's so there's only seven episodes when it's all set and done. Isn't that their way of like they say limited series like in Kate, if it's really popular, they might have another season. Or is it really limited? I mean, here's the deal. Like the way it ended. I'm not going to give away. I'm not that person. No, right, but the way it's correct. But like I don't necessarily know if there would be a second. Okay. Do you know what I mean? Yes, which is why part of me is like I could see this literally just being a limited series kind of deal. But it was so well done, but it's funny because it's about chess. So you think that's right. What I expected you to say, because you strike me as, you know, the chess player. I mean, you won around the office talking about how you can't wait to play chess later. I guess it matches up. I mean, I, you know, I had the local chess club, you know, I'm the president of it. Riley Clark, chess club, not at all. No, not because you couldn't, but it's just like what I envisioned. No, it's okay. But for me either. Right. Right. You know, I get in some weird programming too. So who knows? Absolutely, but it's just a very well done show. And even some of the way the filming is done, it's very like it's just very artistically well done. And the theme, the storyline, it's just all so good. But you think about it. And again, you're kind of like, you know, how do you make chess sound interesting? And you know, you talk to people and you're like, oh, like what's the latest show you watch when you go all of the Queen's Gambit? What's it about chess? But it's so much. It's just so. I know we're seeing exactly. But it's good. But it's really, it's really, I would recommend it. I would recommend it. What about the Queen and chess? I imagine there's some overlap there or something to do with it. Yeah, I'll just, I'll let you watch it. I'll let you. Exactly. Exactly. It's it in 2023. But I'm going to be limited. It's going to be gone. I've been like, like, it's been a guilty pleasure. I don't know if it's guilty pleasure. It's hilarious, but Cobra Kai. Right. So I grew up, we talked a little about this. But I was like 10 years old, like the perfect prime kid for when karate kid originally came out. Okay. May not even 10. I've been like eight. But doing I told you like in the theater walking out, like karate kicking off the aisle, like getting on the arm rest of the chairs and like doing the crane kick, you know, like I was kicking Johnny in the face, like, perfect. So this comes out the nostalgia because it's got, you know, Daniel and Johnny picking up their rivalry right where you left off. And it's really well written. Like, you know, it could have been done really bad. I mean, you know, like these kind of you know, quasi comedy drama type shows with this type of premise, you know, it might be nostalgic, but the writing sucks or the acting sucks. Absolutely. I don't know. There's no any. I don't know if we're winning any Academy Awards on the acting side. But it's just so nostalgic. Like the writing's really good. They've introduced new characters and watching Johnny and Daniel go at each other still is holds, you know, whether it's nostalgia. nostalgia interest for someone that didn't care, but I've been getting into I think I'm in second season. They said there can be a third season. So it's popular. Yeah, it's gotten good ratings and from a lot of the critics. Yeah, but the writing is good. Yeah. It's it's light too. So it's like, you know, with everything going on. I just don't know. I can't imagine. I guess I'd still enjoy, but if Game of Thrones might be just too much right now, like some of the like is over done. Season eight this year that actually season eight should have been produced this year. Right. Yeah. That was not a good season. No, but I haven't watched a movie. Like this is like, I feel like this is the state of the movie business. Right. I have not watched a movie. And other than kids movies, like we do family movie night with the kids. So like, okay, so I guess it counts like we watched Elf in the theater room, you know, Friday night or Saturday night of the weekend. But like an adult Nicole and I like, you know, purposely going, we're going to watch this movie and we used to, you know, we weren't huge. We didn't go to the movies that much, but we watch a movie here and there. I haven't why I can't remember the last drama action, adultish movie. I don't know. And it's just with I think it's the awareness of any of them. I think the marketing of movies is just not as non-existent because of theaters. You just know them on Netflix based on what you scroll through. Yeah. And it's always a little, I don't know, like going through Netflix and it's one thing to commit to a show to watch a 30 or 45 minutes show to see if you're going to like the show. It's a whole other thing to like get into the movie thing. Oh, for sure. It's just more considered purchase for me. Right. Right. Okay. So I will say I'm like a big movie buff. I mean, like my favorite movie, I think is gladiator, which is really random, probably. But I am obsessed with that movie. It's like a big for like my family, too. But there is this movie on Netflix that I would recommend. And it's a really dark kind of movie. It's called the devil all the time. Right. And I have a lot of it's kind of funny because I mean, I'm originally from West Virginia. So the movie part of the movie takes place in parts of West Virginia and parts of Ohio and then. Oh gosh, I think it's 50s and 60s. Very interesting because it's like backwoods West Virginia, back with Ohio kind of stuff. And part of me is kind of like, you know, that's like where I'm right now. Okay. Just like deliverance type stuff here. Like I mean, similar. It's okay. It basically follows a couple different characters. And it's a loaded cast. Tom Holland's in it. Robert Pattinson is in it. Oh gosh, the guy. Yeah. I mean, too. And I'm like, it's loaded. No, I really, it's some actors. I know stars that I don't know their name. Well, I'm going to mispronounce their names. What is it? The scars guard guy? However, you say his name. He was the it character. He was the it dude. I don't know. It's Swedish or something. Yeah, but it there's a lot of good people in it would really recommend that one, too. That's like a good movie. But again, very dark and very kind of like, I mean, it's not something you would want to. Oh, family movie night. It's not at all one of those. Well, Christmas vacations been on kind of like constant. Then that's like hard. I said, yeah, just give me some some low thought process. Like just humor. Like it's silly. It's okay. Right. There's stuff that I probably wouldn't normally tolerate. And look, I love Christmas vacation, but certain other movies that I'd probably like, oh, I can't deal with that. But I'm actually craving like a little bit of levity being reduced. Okay, then I have another one for you. Kid, kid movie, claw or a clouse. Clouse? Clouse? Have you? Clouse? Cause I said claws and it's a clouse with a K on Netflix. It's like and it's a definitely that's definitely a family movie. Okay. Very good. All right. But there we are. I guess we'll get rid of it. Here's Rade with the news. Here is the red cast news. Okay, guys. So our topics for this week, the first one we are talking about into the year searches and what was the most Google searches of 2020? Yes, the year in search is one of my favorite things. And almost forgot about a short trip to everyone. We were thinking about topics for the news and didn't know it was definitively out just yet. So Google puts out the year in search. So do you see what was trending? What were the most search terms across categories? Right? I'll go over the ones that are probably most obvious and we'll do a little trivia. I don't see what you can guess here. Okay, this would be fun. So the top five searches overall. Number one election results. Number two, coronavirus. Wow. Number three, Kobe Bryant. Number four, coronavirus update. And number five, coming in on the coronavirus top five is coronavirus symptoms. See, I'm shocked. That wasn't higher to be honest. You know what I mean? Like I'm really shocked. That wasn't higher. Number six was shit show. I made that one up with number seven, dumpster fire. Yes. Yes. So there's our surprise. Election just kind of ruled the year sprinkled with coronavirus sprinkled with the terrible tragedy of Kobe Bryant. And it's just like that's just this is no good. Right. I'm not enjoying this at all. Good as reminding me that it's true because it is what trended. So here, all right, let's all have a little fun. Let's go to definitions. Okay. Okay. So people were looking up the definition of these words. Any guesses on the top five. Top five guesses of definitions. People be looking up to want to know what it means. What it means. Um, I'll give you a hint on the first one. Okay. It's not number one, but it's related to coronavirus. So what are people? What's it? What is the coronavirus? And why would you be looking it up? Would it be, um, oh gosh, I actually don't know that I could even pinpoint. Um, would it be like the definition of like the full virus itself? Yes. Pandemic. Pandemic. Pandemic was the first, uh, it was number four on definitions. And number five was also related. I have, I think I actually looked at, I knew it admit, but I wanted to know to admit when it first came out and they're talking about it. I didn't admit you didn't really have symptoms, but asymptomatic asymptomatic. Okay. That was number five on the list. Okay. And number one. Yeah. Is, uh, a song. A song by a certain female rapper and, uh, stop, stop. That was the number, that was number one most search definition. WAP. It was, uh, number one of definitions looked up. Every parent in America was going, what is this WAP? Oh, look it up. That, that is, um, wow. And number two is entanglement. Entanglement? Does that mean is that like a Biden and, uh, and, uh, Trump thing, like, were they, was that like a constant news article? There's this entanglement. I feel like, I feel like that has to be something related. Three was anti-bellum. Anti-bellum. What happened in anti-bellum? I don't know. Was that like that scary movie? Never wanted to know what it means. Oh, oh, yes, maybe. It could be. It could be. Is there any other top like a, uh, most searches? Oh, yeah, we're, we're gonna, uh, let's go at this one. Let's go with, hmm, people looking up where is they were wanting to know that so they start their search. Oh, I know what the first one is. I know what the first one is them. Okay, where is the city in China that started coronavirus, right? Not in the top five. No way. Seriously. That's a big surprise to me. Nope, nope. Not in the top five. Um, think about WIFM and what were people wanting and making sure they got when the coronavirus happened and everybody had a lock down. Oh, are we talking about like retail stores, kind of like where to get a mask? Where's my money? Show me the money. Where's my stimulus money? Number one, where is number two? Oh, I was going actual location. I've okay. I'm good, but it could be. They did. There are some of those here. So they're in your mix. It could be. Oh, okay, okay. And so get this. Number two, where is my refunds? So where's my stimulus money? Where's my refund? And we were poor this year. Yeah, well, well, yeah, that's true. They're locked down for that first 60 to 60. I mean, some people are still locked down, but a lot of those people are like, you know, I make some money. Where number three, where is Kansas City? What took place in Kansas City? I was trying to think of that. Somebody listening is going, oh, they don't even know what happened in Kansas City. It was the, and I don't know what it is. How about you? Let us know. No, I'm just kidding. I'll research later. How about the top five TV shows? We were just talking about them when and actually, I bet that both ironically, and we did not plan this. No way. Both of the shows we reference are in the top five. Is Queen's Gambit first one though? No, it's not. It's Queen's Gambit. Another Netflix phenomenon though. Think of what really was probably more summertime and like really took off was crazy. Oh, oh gosh, what's the, is this the teenager show that's in North Carolina? No, I thought that would be on it too. It's not on here. But number one Tiger King Tiger King. Yeah, that was this year, wasn't it? Yeah, that's what we see where our times like, oh, is it going by fast or slow? I'm not sure. Tiger King number one. Number two, Cobra Kai. Cobra Kai? Yours is above mine. Oh, it is way above it. And it's actually number three is like one of my second favorite shows. Also on Netflix. Jason, Jason Dayton. Oh, what was that? Oh, yeah, Ozark. love, Ozark number three number four, I've not heard of this one, the umbrella Academy. Oh, yeah. My brother watches that show. I have no idea what that is. It's a very peculiar show, I've heard. I've been kind of wanting to watch it. But I feel like it's one of the ones you kind of need to be in the mood to watch. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, so I I haven't really done that but you know, I hate none. It just haven't given it and number five The Queen's Gambit. There it is. It's so good. You have to watch it. Yes The only one that was this kind of funny would do one more though. Why? Why then something and number one I have no idea. It's so scary and I I feel like I'm missing something but I'm just gonna tell you why we're chainsaw's invented Yikes was the number one why Mine mine now cushion is why is that what search? I don't know. Did we miss something? Is it like chainsaw masker or was there another? What happened in Texas there with it like what can you imagine cutting down a tree in any other way now? So I don't know why that's so fascinating. Yeah, okay, number two makes sense back to coronavirus. What happens to every? Well, you go to gas like I don't know if it's as bad now, but it was bad for a while You go to the grocery store you go to a gas station. What's on the sign that they don't have? Change Queens Why is there a clean shortage is number two? Interesting One other one why is tic-toc getting banned I was yeah, I was I was waiting for something like correct. Yeah, yeah Everything else sort of makes sense. A lot of its coronavirus general stuff. Yeah top five people Joe Biden Kim Jong-un Kamala Harris Jacob Blake and Ryan Newman out five searched People overall interesting. So great list. It's all part of Google's year in search Mm-hmm You can find it online and we'll have a link to it somewhere in our center. It's absolutely. Yeah Our next topic, which I just think this is so fun. So Mario Lopez This I guess is being casted as Colonel Sanders sorry for KFC lifetime and is partnering up lifetime movies is partnering up with KFC and Colonel Sanders is Mario Lopez, but it it almost sounds like it's a play on It doesn't sound like it's actually some really heartfelt kind of movie. It's it's being marketed as something very like a most like sexual A reciprocity for a seduction. Exactly. So like, you know, I mean Colonel Sanders was known for his recipes But now I guess he's done for another one. Exactly. It may I mean fits with lifetime. I don't you know Brained content you're gonna see a lot more of this where brands are trying to Engage in platforms in a natural and organic way right Obviously on lifetime something salacious or interesting and I don't know how far they're gonna take it, but It looks it looks quasi spoofish, but also I guess is playing into the mindset of lifetime And I think look here's what they're doing a lot of women a lot of moms You know that make a lot of the decisions for the households So you're getting KFC kind of in an organic way kind of there You get Mario Lopez well-liked bike. He's kind of the everyday guy now Entertainment tonight. So you got a good actor this You know the guys think he's sort of cool. He was a little I think over the top geeky at one time I think if you follow him like I follow him on social and stuff. He's pretty cool like and so guys like he's pretty cool Women are like good looking guys been around and so very good mainstream middle-the-road actor um, and then You've got lifetime playing on what they do best, which is drama And uh, so it's good for KFC. We'll see. I don't know how I guess you'll see if sales with and what are the exact demo ends up watching this then if you see You correlate sales like if because I'm sure lifetime will be able to get a get a read From their metrics like a who watched the show and then KFC can see if they get a bump in uh Sales from that demographic. Uh, it's definitely more of a soft brand play, but it's cool. We'll see. I don't know It could be fun. I'll probably catch it on like you two or something. Yeah, we're December. I'm gonna watch it live noon or Sunday, right? You know, but you know, but I'll definitely watch it on on the social channel. I'm sure it'll be on IGTV. Oh, I'm sure. I'm sure We'll see Our next topic for today is core's light is creating a beer man versus a snowman I like the little let's chill or be ready to chill and uh, they're creating an imperfect snowman That's built to keep you know your cans of beer cold, which obviously is clever and cute and whatever If you are watching on YouTube if you are on the YouTube video then I'm currently playing the Video on long with it, but you can see this little animated snowman and it's a beer man and they're actually Encouraging people to then build your own beer man And if you create your own beer man you tag them you hashtag beer man And then you will get like this special kind of winter wonderland makeover on your lawn Basically, if if your beer man is you know the cutest or the best, you know, whatever Creation you come up with, but I think this is like really clever and I I like it a lot to be honest Yeah, I like what cores uh is doing uh Miller cores and the uh If you've seen I'm gonna be to her for one second they've been Targeting more women. I don't know if you see the woman the woman that's been working all day come home and uh Getting a little undressed and like taking it off so they're Definitely like Expanding their target because I think most it's been you know, it's an easy drinking beer as a light beer But it's I think most of their historical branding has been very you know, there's like all beer like god The cow's watching sports or the silver bullet you know as what they were always known as and so and they're expanding that and then this is just enough It's playing into the sentiment like okay. This is a beat-up snowman. It's not perfect but he's keeping Inline with kind of the whole year right the imperfect nature of of the year exactly exactly So it's fun and you know, I don't know how I don't know how many people want you know a one-to-one land in their front yard, but you know sure Maybe it's something I do see people like Or definitely if you're in a northern state like us being in South Carolina The thought of where or how we'd ever build a snowman listen naturally or I guess we could build a non-smist I think we should build a beer man here at the office somewhere like outside maybe with like the cardboard boxes or something like that something like it And then we'll get the beer man. We'll get camaraderie transformed into winners. Exactly. Exactly. My thoughts exactly. Um, yeah, it's fun. It's clever. Yeah, made to chill Our last topic for today is Chipotle was Um, given the award of mobile marketer of the year I feel like this is a a very um lofty title to kind of claim, but I think it's an important title especially when everything granted. Okay, I'm gonna say this Everything already has been going digital. I'm not saying this was the year everything went digital But there was a higher pressure for companies to go digital this year because you needed to keep up with the fact that You know brick and mortar wasn't really happening You needed to keep up with where people are at which was your social channels And Chipotle, I mean, I remember last year when they first of all they have marketed so well at least to my generation Because I mean they are everywhere. I mean, it's like a thing and you know whether it's tiktok or Instagram or whatever They've been doing well with your Chipotle rewards They're big in college towns. I mean, I feel like they've been getting their their rewards like loyalty To their customers like pretty soundly And so I think this is probably why they got this award this year because we all very much so rely on I mean, I know everyone really does they use their apps a lot anyway, but I think Just using your rewards points this way is um, I mean clearly it won them an award. So it worked for them Yes, uh, you know They've come a long way. I mean, it wasn't that long at least on my mental radar where they were fighting all the issues where they were You know, they had people getting sick in the restaurants, you know, like two or three years ago like god about that They've completely kind of turned to 180 With their quality and you see that in commercials and they've made a real turnaround literally and You know, they've embraced that you know, they were starting to do it anyway, but it was Good timing for them with everything going on that they had leaned in kind of this mobile strategy in the app and like really getting that robust and then COVID hits and you got all this They've got the infrastructure there to take advantage of it, right? So it was a win for them I know they're real active on tiktok with branded videos and things like that. So we're kind of leaning into that Whole customer base and and everything that's going on and then you know, the It's great to see a brand a lot of these companies have apps and stuff, but some of them just suck out loud You know this and it's like so one that actually works it ties into their charitable causes You can do roundups and things like that From your meals and you kind of bring the whole brand together leveraging the app in the way that it should be and tracking their loyalty program and all those things so fully integrated approach and Looks if you have good results for them and quite the turnaround right exactly Well, that's it for us today um as far as Next upcoming things we have an episode that's coming out on Tuesday and that is with a really cool guest. He is Part of mind pump media and it's um if you're familiar with them. They are a marketing uh, we're a marketing podcast They are right then it's podcast, but they also have really cool products and services You know to get you on a very healthy fitness journey versus just that you know Bodybuilder like have to be aesthetic and it's just very healthy approach to working on and improving yourself I think it's a it's a great sentiment. I'm excited for that. Yeah, Sal was great And really good interview really good back and forth really insightful guy Love what they're doing with the podcast and how they're growing their brand. It's like preaching a lot of things that we talk about overarching marketing and branding perspective and They're living it and uh, I think people are really like that episode and and it's you know Could be better timing with for them another well-placed with with what they're doing online before COVID starts and then now Um, their ability to kind of be there and deliver on those virtual fitness experiences But I also just really like their approach and Sal's a straight shooter Uh, I follow him on Instagram and watch him kind of interjecting in certain conversations. I love his perspective and and I think we really enjoy that episode Absolutely Um, and then be sure to give us a follow on Instagram if you haven't already um, we're at the dot rad dot cast If you have any other questions or want to follow up with us um, go to the radcast.com and we will see you all next time All right, see you guys Yo guys, what's up Ryan offered here?
