Between Fortnite and Roblox, you know, those are the two biggest platforms and I'll say this having kids
There's like this point where they graduate from Fort from Roblox to Fortnite like my 12 year old kind of there
But he still kind of dips back in Roblox. It's interesting to me how
Everyone thought that some of the trends that became
Trends during the pandemic. We're gonna stick around forever like I kind of bounced back to
But when the opposite happens really yeah, like the rubber bands gonna come snap back eventually because people don't want to
Stay home and do nothing all the time
You're listening to the radcast if it's radical we cover it
 Here's your host
Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the radcast. It's Friday
 May 20th
 2022 are weekly
Advertising and marketing news. I'm joined my my lovely co-host Christina Gassi
Live it in person once again. His glasses are sharp. Thank you. They help me see not in my contacts
I'm been wearing mine occasionally. I'm supposed to I hope that my high doctor doesn't
Watch the rest of the podcast supposed to do it once we all vouch for you've had him on at least once a week see yeah there we go. I can see
 exactly so
Having a good week. Yeah, so far aside from I mean the weather's been beautiful, but the pollen is just thick it is
Devastating. Yeah, it is here in Greenville, South Carolina. That's where we broadcast. Yes, the radcast
So wherever you are whenever you are however you are
You know, this is where you're listening. This is where we are
Gevegas. We got a brand new park opening right outside of our location unity park if you're in green though
And a part of the Greenville County. I'm sure the city council all listens to the podcast and they should
 Congratulations on that endeavor
It's actually really cool. Yeah, and the client our client heirloom did some amazing
Structures or just work. Yeah for the for the park and
So we're proud to work with them proud of that work. So if you're in Greenville it's a big day here when we recording this
But yeah, it's been getting warming it warming up here in South Carolina
A lot of weird things have been happening just about the the UFOs. We had our first UFO hearing in like over 50 years
 I think
 Yeah, um
I used to be really fascinated by UFOs and I don't know if it's just because you get older and you're like uh
If they're real, they'd be smacking me in the head by now or like they'd be beaming us up or something but
But I will say if you watch Rogan or you know you go down that rabbit hole of of the information it gets a little freaky like there's
There's stuff out there. Well, now they're called what they have here. They're called uap's which stands for unidentified aerial phenomena
So I like that we just kind of get more and more vague with it
Instead of flying objects, they're aerial phenomena. Uh-huh sounds dirty. Yeah
Lawyer a little uap going around around here. Hey
 Hey, oh, yeah
 I'm gonna
 Yeah
uap going on last night. Let me tell you um
 UFOs the ding button
Yes, give it round pause there you go unidentified aerial phenomena is uh
Interesting, but do you believe in do you think there's other things out there? I think they're absolutely unidentified things out there
 But similarly to you
I mean unidentified like it's an asteroid. I don't think there are aliens
Nick what's your pen you think there's aliens out there
 Well, that's clear
It is when I was younger. I used to think they were like you know demons or angels or something
Yeah, you know more paranormal, but I don't know now and it doesn't affect my day-to-day life
So until it does I don't waste too much of brain energy on it. Yeah, it's hard to know in in other serious news
Yes, uh Taco Bell is bringing back the Mexican pizza. I'm thank you
This is like religion here the Mexican pizza you Mexican pizza person. I am a big talkable person
I don't do much with fast food, but Taco Bell. I'll uh rise to the occasion. Yeah, you kind of have to first when you've been drinking all night
Late rehearsals. Oh, yeah, it's a staple Nick Mexican pizza. Yeah, you're nay
 All right
Taco Bell in general and a okay, you know, you don't run for more cookout person
Well, a great campaign run for the border. I think it's a little
 political age
 It hasn't aged great
Politically incorrect, but it was the campaign
 You worked for a time
Yeah, I think it's working in reverse now run for the border. I think you know, like
Right, right. We'll leave that there. Yeah
 Yeah
Mexican pizza that is all that matters coming back
I might go have to have one. Please come back this weekend. Yeah, there are signs for it. Yeah, I
The nacho bell got let me tell you the grande nachos
In a pinch when you're drunk or super good. I'm a case of Dia girl
I always go for a case of Dia. Yeah, sober or drunk
I'm trying to remember if I've had the nachos not a little
I think it's always good. I don't think I've consumed too much Taco Bell sober
Even to call an eye like we've been to like some events or something in a little late and
Yeah, you know, it didn't really eat dinner. Yeah, you know, like you had
Some little stupid hors d'oeuvres, but like one bite of an hors d'oeuvres
Right, right, you've had a stuffed mushroom that bean burrito sounds delicious like the delicacies of whatever's in there. Oh my gosh
I don't ever want to know I don't ever want to know talking about unidentified
 Ariel from
That's where it is. That's where these articles come. Let's come together
 Everything connects. Yes
For during and after that experience
 Uh
 It's been a good week
Hopefully you listen to the deal maker mark Evans on Tuesday. It's great marks. Yeah, awesome dude
great episode hope everyone enjoyed that and
Next week we have drumroll, please. Yes, pasta hanzas and Lisa lovelin
links club NFT. This was actually one of the more practical uses of NFTs. I've seen just why I had them on
 basically it's
grouping people I would call it like it has the promise of being
The LinkedIn of NFTs like literally you that's a good way to put it
You know you think about these cl these entrepreneurs or
 networking clubs where
People like mine of people come together like B&I. Yeah, where people share leads or share information or stuff like that
And it's not just leads and business driving but more the organization of it and they're doing it based off
tokenization so you pay to get in the club
You know that token can gain value
But you're also in the club with all these people and you got training and learning that happens within it
So I think they've got a lot of potential here. Yeah, and really smart people really enjoyed talking with them
You can learn a lot if you're kind of listening you're kind of on the
 NFT
Fence of what is it? How is it? Where is it worth it? Yeah, is it worth it?
Class it as a great job of explaining it breaking it down into
terms we can all understand and I try to make this practical for
Ways that you might use it now and where it's going to go in the future
Instead of you know this scarcity of bad art
Right, right, you know and just a trend. Yeah
We did talk about some ADD apes, but you know
You know, there's the hook. There's the hook. Yes. No, we didn't
 Board apes 80d apes whatever
We kept it practical about the practical use of NFT smart contracts and how
You can use these things, but please check out the episode next Tuesday on all your favorite platforms wherever you're listening to this now
 Thanks Club NFT next week

There are a few of holidays of notes to celebrate. Yes, May 21st
National Armed Forces Day very important. It is very important. You got Memorial Day coming up and National Armed Forces Day on Saturday
We salute those that serve so that we can have freedom. Can live the lives we have. Yes freedom isn't free folks
National Armed Forces Day on Saturday tomorrow
And ironically on the Saturday. I know it's a national bike work way for all those retailers out there
Could you not move it like well we could bike here because we're on the swamp ride trail. Yes, yes, yes
So in the I guess you know if you're working retail or something. Yeah, it works but like we're just celebrating Monday. Just Monday through Friday
We're national bike work day on tomorrow May 21st and
More importantly my favorite like you today. Yes, you know, you know, that means since you did help this list. I did I know I've been I know you
I was trying to figure out how to say
Can you do the little sound
You can get the syntax but he has this little a little
I can't do his little noise. I have friends who can but I can't
 Come on
Do it. What does he say? Do that?
 Talk backwards. I will
 I can't do it. I'm hungry. I am
 There's hungry. I am
 You a piece there are
You're doing great. See you got it. You just want a weird flex, but okay. Yeah
 Oh, that's what I thought
And then May 24th National Scavenger Day. This is a warning because I'm going to do it in the office. Yeah
Preemptive here. Yeah, there you go. Oh boy. National scavenger day
I wait all year for it. Yes
Well, I mean without further ado
 Trends in the metaverse
We do have some important stories. We're getting to our news articles folks first
This is interesting seems practical to and a good usage of
The metaverse and the US military is building its own metaverse on May 10th to fighter pilots perform a high altitude
 proto metaverse experience
That's sounds quite complex, but a few thousand feet above the desert of California in a pair of bearcute 540 jets
They don't custom AR headsets to connect to a system that overlayed a ghostly glowing image of a refueling aircraft craft
flying alongside them in the sky
One of the pilots then performed a refueling maneuver with the virtual tanker. This is cool and
You know we talked about this pre episode
The first like I remember of like simulation stuff like this was literally on the PC like 20 years ago
 Maybe 25 years ago
 Flight simulator
There was like literally every button was exactly. It was complex as shit and
I remember like my dad's PC having was like the only game on there
And I'm like, oh god, and I couldn't even get off the freaking
I couldn't get off the ground like crashed every time and it would
He'd had like some backhanded like smart-ass thing that it would too. I was like yeah, congratulations
You didn't make it off the the landing strip. I'm like, oh, thank you very fucking much
Yeah, there was no the kid. I was like, you know, just like smack in the screen going you know because it was like literally every button was like
So complex like q RT to get the
Elbow and I'm like, I'm like, oh, I remember like you're almost getting it and then
Crashing at the end of the thing and it going, oh congrats. You didn't make it off the runway. I'm like, oh, it's smack you
I'm gonna get back at that thing in the metaverse. There you go
But now this is practical so
Metaverse related ideas are already part of some of the latest military systems the high tech helmet for the new F-35 fighter jets
for instance include an augmented reality display that shows telemetry
 Very tough words like
Data and target information on top of video footage from around the aircraft
Okay, this makes a ton of sense again back to like the Mars example like simulating things of importance in the real world and doing it and having that
 Three-dimensional experience totally get it
I'd like to get up in the military metaverse. Yeah, and it's not night or fortnight
Only that's quite this real and it's I mean it's safer and I would imagine that you know
It's got to be cheaper, right? Like once you get the initial technology down
I would think it would be cheaper to to train and you know
Not as much of a liability and not as much of a threat. I mean, hopefully
Mm-hmm knock on wood. I know it's like metaverse. You can be able to like get hurt in the metaverse like really hurt
Some idiot will figure it out. Someone will find out you like
There's shockers that aren't you like it's a long-term effect seven or whatever
Yeah, it's like on your finger and you're like you're in there. Don't don't go in that
You know the back room there you're shocked
Like a shot collar with the dog. Yeah, exactly, but this is cool. Yeah
Um, good-fined. Thank you US military
Building its own metaverse go check it out at wired
Wired.com appreciate the article from them
 What we got next here
The fortnight creatives creator economy represents the future of the metaverse brand activations
So fortnight creative is becoming a hub for metaverse brands
And the demand has pushed companies to look beyond epic games the developer of the title to reach audiences
Just like the world it emulates the metaverse is constantly changing meaning epic games has to continuously provide relevant
And exciting activations within fortnight if it wants to compete with other platforms like Roblox
While the number of agencies and independent creators working within fortnight creative is growing epic games
Uh, they're they internal team still dominate much of the branded space to handle this influx of projects
The developer has partnered with a number of independent creators including alliance and zen studios
Yeah, this I mean between fortnight and roblox, you know
Those are the two biggest platforms and I'll say this having kids
There's like this point where they graduate from fort from roblox to fortnight
Like how 12 year olds kind of there, but he still kind of dips back in roblox
Like when he's 1314's probably all fortnight
But it's the two places where these things are able to be branded and brought to life most
I don't know holistically because of the scale because they're
Already built into the gaming platforms right and what's interesting to me with this is
That they're using smaller agencies to market themselves thought that was
Kind of fascinating for those of us that work for
Which agencies the big dogs are still
Options, that's right. It's pretty cool. It's gonna be interesting
 fortnight has a
Makes sense to me because you're getting to an older audience. Yeah roblox to me
I still don't know a 20-year-old is playing roblox like so some of the and I get marketing to the youth, but like
You got to talk with the parents at some point, right? Yeah, and I'm only on there because I'm in the business, but right the fortnight
It makes a little more sense because the age range is so wide. Yeah people that pay fortnight totally
Just don't know why they've got multiplayer on that though my kids
Hate that it's like all at one screen and you got one player you gotta get multiplayer on that thing fortnight
 Come on
And then we have the Belgian Museum tokenizes million euro masterpiece to allow its fractional ownership
The Royal Museum of fine arts and twerp or KMS K.A in Belgium is working with two blockchain companies to tokenize
Carnival debinch a million euro painting by Belgian artist James Ensur to allow everyone to become a co-owner of the masterpiece
The two centuries old museum has partnered with blockchain companies Ruby and tokeny to tokenize the masterpiece on the polygon blockchain using tokenies
Compliant ERC 3643 based security token
The KMS K.A is the first European museum to tokenize the masterpiece to democratize art investment
While the art industry has been traditionally dominated by wealthy individuals the KMS K.A says it aims to make masterpieces more available to the masses
 By offering fractional ownership
 interesting and
Not surprising. This is great. You know, I mean, so you know to break down all the the hoop of jargonies
Let's call it the Mona Lisa
And every you know obviously the Mona Lisa is owned by a very wealthy person
Doesn't want to share ownership, but let's say they did
And you wanted 10,000 people to own a fraction of the Mona Lisa
You can create these smart contracts tokenize it so that you're sure. Yeah, you're holding in it's kind of like by stock and it really is
You know, it really is and it's cool because people think you know art as this kind of old
archaic dying thing and this is I think a really cool way to revitalize it and
Make people feel like they can be involved in it. And it's not just stagnant. I don't speaking as an artist
Maybe we should just turn the agency into like
Painting things and tokenizing it. I'd be all about it
In F.T. My comedy. I know this artwork behind me that we created marketing. It's there you go
This could be yours for 10,000 exactly or at least part of it part of it. We'll cut off one quarter for you
You mean eight owners for it. Yes. We're we'll
 Fractalize it
Oh, no in all seriousness. It seems like a practical use for it. And this is where smart contracts are headed. So
It's cool. Even though it's the Belgian museum. Yeah, you know, 200-year-old museum
Pretty interesting. They're getting hey Europe would do it first. Yeah, of course. Yeah, anything first
 Um, this was fun, right
Cheeset taps Pandora to produce so sonically
Socially, I really wanted to say
Sonically aged cheddar crackers. All right, so what does that mean?
Cheeset produced sonically aged cheese for its crackers with the help from music
Service Pandora, according to news release that you have aspired by 2019 study that found aging cheese with
Hip-hop music affected the final products taste and smell in a wild
Cheeset tap Pandora to create songs that shared qualities with those used in the research to experiment on its own snacks over a six and a half month period
 It's wild
For consumers interested in the types of snacks used to age the cheese
Cheese campaign includes a playlist on Pandora
This is fascinating to me right is and
Is it all in the head?
It doesn't real. I think they did a study where you they actually like
Sound can because it's sound waves right and it's in the air
Actually affects like can affect the aging process. Yeah
So you're put who knows I mean maybe it is again like but if it's again like it's got me
So the marketing works Nikki buying this
 Sound waves micro waves
5G man. It's messing with our brains
 Haha. Yeah, you know
I need to do a blind taste test right to it's cool really know what the partnership is me
The playlist and all that but
Whether or not it really impacted the taste of the cheese um, yeah
You know, but you're gonna end up with some guy that's gonna be like it does the same and some guy that's gonna like
No, it's totally different like coconut Pepsi. Yeah, like do they taste different do they
And now I'm talking Pepsi absolutely taste different you can give me a triple wine taste test and I would see the maybe the cheese taste different
It's all I'm trying to say maybe I'd have to taste cheese. They'd been sonically
And then son of the age to have it
And after you eat all of your cheeses you can get on your peloton maybe
But peloton ad spending plunged as new users Wayne or so the article says
 Peloton you in it
 Peloton spent
Million dollars on advertising across all platforms in 2021 a 300% year-on-year increase according to a new media radar report
The fitness companies ad strategy had shifted considerably so far in 2022 with ad investments down
22% to 47 million in the first quarter. This is interesting because they
After Covid happened everyone wanted a peloton and they really hit the ground running and ran a little bit too fast
Yeah, your eggs in one basket. Yeah, I think
I still think there's hope for this like I know they've tanked pretty hard and I'm not saying
They've had some challenges with some of their advertising some of the good stuff
Yeah, and if they can and I think they've turned the corner on most of that. Okay, I mean they can get all that in order. I still think
 It's interesting to me how
Everyone thought that some of the trends that became trends during the pandemic we're gonna stick around forever like
We kind of bounced back to when the opposite happened really. Yeah, like the rubber bands gonna come snap back eventually
Because people don't want to stay home and do nothing all the time right and only work out
Now at the same time I think there's a place for this because you can't always get to the gym and to have a
More tailored experience with live interaction. Yep again
But again, whether or not the growth that they had it was sustainable was clear that it was I mean 300% to
Invest all of that based on one year and a very weird circumstance that doesn't seem like the wisest
Well, I can't fault them for spending more
It's just what where was the
What was the cutoff? You know like how much more right, you know, whether it should have been 300%
I don't know, but I think they were wise to
Spend more in the moment while they had that moment in time people are home to max to maximize
You know where the market was gonna be sure, but the reality was it was gonna slow down so and and
 How many hardcore
Decisions did they make that they couldn't scale back once the reality set end of the day that that's I think the key here
 Right
 Where's the actual loss?
Yeah, because like in marketing. It's all about headroom and headroom is
Okay, with whatever on product. I'm selling in any whether it's B2B or B2C
What is the truly available market? Yeah, you know and because it hits at some point
And you can create more headroom with pivots and different things like that, but it
There's a scalable market for everything at the end of the day
And they might have outkicked their coverage a bit with whatever that might yeah total yeah addressable
Opportunistic audience was gonna be right, you know, like how many people was it one in ten that are willing to have a
Like really yeah, really and they put money behind assuming it was gonna be one and four
You know, right you we don't know
See all that data to know like return ad spin and things like that and addressable market, but
We'll see where peloton goes. I still like the notion. I do too
And it's cheaper than like interactive and like I want I don't have one, but it's been on like by
I don't know if I didn't live in a studio apartment. I would have one. I won't win so bad
I like the treadmill or something like sure and he's might like yelling at me
 Run faster, right, right
Like the drill sergeant to come on, you know, I can yell at me and like tell me not to give up on that
Right, push yourself by there. Yes, yes, they're like you're at you're a worse you're it
You're only get five degree of difficulty. You need to ramp this up all for
So we know what we need at least a 10% decline for five more minutes and they can control it from their side
Oh, that'd be brutal. Oh, yeah, there we go. Now we'll start our own
 Yeah
Yeah, and then they get like the mirror thing and they start like you know put me in chokehold with the uh
 With the bars
 I don't know
Just all motivation, you know, sure in the day. Okay
 Moving on
Whatever motivates you twitter boards as it will enforce the merger agreement despite Elon Musk latest moves of this week
 Musk has been uh
Pushing back on all the bots and yeah, making noise. I think he's just trying to reduce the prices what I get this
I think he's trying to maybe get leverage for that. I mean he may walk away, but he's got a billion dollars
He's got a billion reasons not to hey you're not wrong
Do you think if he did walk away? He'd start his own
Plot boy. Yeah, I think so probably that's why I'm wondering if he's learned again
I don't know how much data he's been getting or what he has or hasn't seen
He's gotten something that will help him right launch his own and maybe that's cheaper than
Yeah, you know stay staying where he's at. I don't know
Something tells me this is all
Jockey and it still ends up happening. Yeah, but he tweeted. Yes. I don't know if you saw it
He said if I die under mysterious circumstances. It was nice knowing you
 It's like
That's interesting. I did not see that he's such a troll. He's such an internet troll
Yeah, he maybe he's seeing UAPs or something maybe
Maybe he's they can charge of all them who knows
 So that's wildly fascinating
Then Pepsi pizza hut put soccer fans in Paul Pogba's shoes with AR game
 Pepsi is teaming with young
Young brands chains pizza hut and KFC for activations related to soccer star Paul Pogba as the UEFA champions league competitions near its close
Together with pizza hut and production firm tool of North America
The soft drink marketer developed an augmented reality which is AR for those of you who don't know
Mobile game and the runner genre that puts players in the shoes of Pogba as he dribbles the ball and slides under obstacles to obtain points
Soccer continues to hold a significant place in PepsiCo sports
The company has been a partner of the UEFA championship league since 2015 and is currently sponsoring with this division
 To extend through 2024
This is interesting because you buy the product and you get that's the only way you get access to the game
I'm there, you know, so it's a lot of cross-marketing
Which I always think is interesting when you pull a an athlete or a celebrity in with multiple brands
In order to access that you got to buy the product score with Pogba
You know, this I love the the application school. Yeah, I get it. I'm just so
Like if that's I guess if that said LeBron James, I'd like turn my I'm not a soccer guy
Sure, sure, like go. I gotta like get my head out. I don't know how big soccer is. Yeah, someone's gonna
You never leave DM me and go
You don't know hotness. Oh my god. Yeah, and he's he's like a top one for the he's up to trade
I believe in 2024 which is part of why they're doing this and this is his first
 video game
So a lot of interesting stuff going on there is and
You know, we've been talking a lot about AR and all those experiences, so thinking it more accessible
 Yeah, once again
 You know
 Pepsi and pizza hut
Which are very American very American brand brands
 I think
It's interesting. I've been hearing you know soccer's getting more traction in the US and I guess it is like you know less and stuff like that
 but like
It's still just so we just still feel so dominated by football like even American football right and lastly when we talked about
You know different platforms that are only allowing streaming for certain games
I do think that we're gonna see more of a you know
Shift in western culture and in the United States towards soccer or European football. Yeah
This is one of those like when I had to see these out
I want to go try them out before I could talk about them because I go like on service. It feels cool
Feels nice. Yeah, then I want to just go see how chit-chat is like if it's like really a good experience
Right, right just fills gimmicky you know, right or cheap. Yeah, totally
 Um
So we'll see maybe I'll go get in and talk with shoes. There you go. Yeah, let him walk around my shoes for a day
Something like that if these shoes were talking. What was that song?
These boots are made for walkin. There we go. It's made for walking or they're talking shoes were made for talking

Product placement. Oh, yeah, I saw this
Be our last article of the day. Sounds good. Product placement is going to take over your favorite show
So okay, here's what's happening people I read one more line from this but
 The audiences might not notice
No or ideally notice but just enough
Product placement is a 23 bill
 Billion dollar industry that's growing
Traditionals these deals are worked out before shooting sometimes eight months in advance
And involve someone on set making sure the product looks just right
Though details are sparse amazon's virtual product placement tool which we talked about a couple weeks ago
It's still a beta being used
In a slate of amazon originals including
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and that's where they drop it in after the fact. That's what she's headed. Yeah, it's cool
Nick drops in product placements on a lot of our videos

We need to look bigger it's only six thousand but make it 12,000 square feet double it in the background
 No, but
Look people don't like to be at advertised to anymore. Mm-hmm the the effectiveness of
He used the words traditional digital traditional digital ads. Just quite met in it's own right
 um
People just it doesn't have the impact that it had ten years ago and so
But brands need to get those impressions and product placement is a natural
It's always been around forever. So I have soap operas and everything's like that
That's where that came from. It was just the commercials
It was actually a box of soap like on the counter with the woman again the kitchen. Yep, and
This is gonna be even more prevalent. I think as marketers look for ways to kind of break through and still stay in the know
When traditional ads and placements don't have the you stop performing the way they used to yeah, and so
It's and it's gonna be fascinating with CGI and stuff like the dropping it in what where things go right right? It's gonna be like
Who can name what was dropped in after the fact totally fun and I'll trivia question Nick that be a good game
 We could play
Nick can you spot the CGI
 Ha
Little trail of digital artifacts gonna look perfect. Yeah, I represent it accurately
That cocaine's kind of floating on the table and instead of sitting on it
Well, and even like if there are these when they're released in other countries
They have to change the restaurants that are driven by because they might not have them in that specific country
Yes, very interesting. Well, it's kind of like right now like I'm sitting here
And you know, I could be talking about a lot. I knew if they were sponsor, but it's just sitting here like you
