The eldest of the four Polla sisters (all of whom are involved in some way or another with the family business of beauty), Ada left her native home in Switzerland in 1995 to attend Harvard University, where she graduated Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in art history. While her passion for art history expresses itself in her contemporary art collection, her career path went the way of business. She earned her MBA at Georgetown McDonough School of Business, where she fell in love with the DC area. During her senior year of business school, she wrote her thesis on bringing her family’s skincare line from Switzerland (Ada’s father is Geneva based dermatologist, Dr. Luigi L. Polla) to the US. In 2004, that thesis became a reality with the official launch of Alchimie Forever, clean-ical (clean formulations, clinical results), vegan, dermatologist formulated skin + body care with Swiss roots. The line has since expanded to include 17 SKUs (including fan favorite, Kantic Brightening Moisture Mask), ranging $25-$99, as well as four travel-sized items of the top-sellers, is sold nationwide amazon, Dermstore, Walgreens and more around the world and remains completely family-funded and owned.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

“LULAAV was born in the valleys of the Fertile Crescent, a region known for its mineral-rich soil, abundant harvests, and penetrating, nutrient-dense botanics. And its women, born from this land, luminous skin, legendary for their strength and beauty. Here, women celebrated their heritage, passing on timeless beauty secrets to their daughters. Skin care recipes blending the most exquisite and potent botanicals, and time-honored beauty rituals to regenerate and glorify complexions, giving skin its optimal vitality. These very beauty secrets were passed on to LULAAV founder Shira Tabib by her Persian grandmother. Raised in New York, Shira spent summers with her grandmother in a small farming village in Israel. It was in her family’s gardens, where Shira was introduced to the skin curative properties of cold pressed botanicals that her ancestors had revered for generations – date fruit extract as the cherished elixir for promoting radiant skin; plum and apricot oils to rejuvenate skin’s vitality; papaya and watermelon seeds for their potent restorative qualities. And the roses, a foundational hero ingredient…there were always roses with their omnipresent aroma. After years of searching fruitlessly to find an organic beauty regimen that captured the rituals and efficacy of her grandmother’s timeless formulas, Shira began methodically crafting her own skin care products. The reputation of her products’ uncompromised quality, purity and nutritional potency spread quickly. In creating LULAAV, Shira sought to honor the timeless beauty wisdom of her heritage, while using only the very finest botanicals, inspired by, and sourced from the Fertile Crescent. Discover the Timeless Beauty Wisdom of LULAAV.”--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Meet Ali Perry-Hatch, MPH, the beach wanderer, herbalist and health scientist, who created Earth Harbor Naturals out of her treehouse kitchen. A combination of a career in humanitarian engineering, graduate research in environmental toxicology, a near-fatal accident, and finding out she was pregnant, led Ali to be more critical of what she was putting both in and on her body, as well as its effects on the environment and humanity. When Ali couldn’t find a comprehensive range of premium natural beauty products that was versatile enough for her ever-changing skin (and life) and that lived up to her strict standards of being effective, ethical, purely natural, rooted in science, sustainable, and affordably indulgent (all while inspiring joyful wonderment!), Earth Harbor Naturals was born!--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Drs. Ben Van Handel PhD and Amir Nobakht MD, MBA met in the stem cell biology labs at USC. Lune Martens, Founder of Monday Muse

Lune Martens has had a lifelong journey to skin health, suffering with acne, rosacea and peri-oral dermatitis since childhood - which came back with a vengeance at 21 years old. Lune tried every method she could to help her extremely reactive and sensitive acne prone skin, visiting multiple doctors, dermatologists and experts and was about to go onto roaccutane but decided she wanted to try a more gentle, holistic approach. Lune saw nutritionists and allergy experts who helped her to diagnose her skin's triggers and put her onto a healthier path - which, over time, completely healed her skin.During this time, and beyond until now, Lune was never able to find a brand for 'temperamental' or sensitive skin, which was also an enjoyable and luxury experience. Most of the brands targeted to acne are aimed at teenagers, or are pharmaceutical, medical or harsh and do not give an enjoyable skincare regimen. Monday Muse has been formulated for reactive, acne/rosacea and sensitive skin in mind using only the most natural and high quality ingredients which are as true to their natural form as possible, ensuring the chance of reaction is at absolute minimum. Independently formulated in the UK with a leading chemist, without fragrance or essential oils, the formulas are light, fresh and a joy to apply to skin. What's more, the brand's award winning packaging looks beautiful on any bathroom shelf.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Brand Co-Founder, Dr. Iris Rubin, M.D., is a board-certified dermatologist with laser and cosmetic fellowship training, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and former pediatric laser surgeon at Children’s National Medical Center.SEEN was born from Iris’ experience with breakouts as it related to her personal hair care use. Deciding that she (and her patients) shouldn’t have to choose between great hair and great skin, she holistically re- thought the formulation process for hair care.“As a dermatologist, I saw patients struggle with breakouts – including the anxiety and insecurity that comes with them. The worst? When nothing seems to work and we can’t get to the root of the issue. This got personal when I noticed frequent breakouts after salon visits. I did my research and traced them back to a surprising source: the hair products the salon used.”“I like to fix things – and this needed fixing. Rather than throwing prescriptions at the problem, we wanted to actually find a solution. With SEEN, we’ve created a line that’s truly good for skin while delivering great looking hair.”--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

I believe in using good-for-your skin ingredients and value a clean routine; that’s why we make sure all of our products are paraben-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free with vegan options. Plus, packaging is not only chic and made for the beauty lover on-the-go, but it’s also completely reusable and recyclable”.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

A global leader, world-class marketer, and passionate communicator, Gillian Gorman Round has a rich background rooted in successful marketing for a diverse portfolio of global brands. Currently serving as Chief Executive Officer at Kjaer Weis since December 2020, Gill started her career in the beauty space at L’Oreal UK for L’Oreal Professional Products. Quickly growing with L’Oreal, in the Professional and Luxury divisions, she continued her career in beauty with Yves Saint Laurent Beaute, then part of the Gucci Group in London which led her to relocating to New York for the position of VP Marketing YSL Beaute.  This was followed by prominent roles as SVP of Marketing for Lancome at L’Oreal USA, President of The Lucky Group for Conde Nast and as CEO and Founder of The Round House, a brand advisory and consulting firm. With an innate love, drive and passion for bringing the best of beauty brands to consumers, Gill was recruited to continue her career in NY as the Global General Manager for the Revlon Incubator. Following this, she became the Global President for American Crew and CND, which she held until being approached to join the leader in luxury certified organic beauty, Kjaer Weis, as CEO.  Since taking on the role during a global pandemic, Gill has challenged the team to successfully orchestrate brand growth, while strategically and objectively challenging the status quo. Seeing a triple digit increase in sales, during a time where the category plummeted, Gill and her team at Kjaer Weis are working to redefine the beauty industry with high-performance, certified organic beauty presented in refillable and recycled packaging that are works of art.  A total commitment to performance, to certified organic and to sustainability drives Gill, Kirsten Kjaer Weis and the entire Kjaer Weis team. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Ahsaki Baa LaFrance-Chachere, Founder/CEO of Ah-Shi Beauty, the first native American owned and operated luxury skincare and cosmetics brand in the united states.I am a proud dine (Navajo) tribal member and African American woman. The odds were against me as I faced social and economic challenges as a dark-skinned Native American. This gave me the fuel I needed to build Ah-Shi Beauty. I get to showcase that we as Native Americans/Indigenous people are diverse. We are not the pervasive image the media continue to perpetuate. In Navajo, Ah-Shi means: "This is me, This is mine." Ah-Shi Beauty - This is my Beauty! My customers set their own beauty standards. It is my responsibility that when my customers look in the mirror, they see themselves, feel empowered and continue to love the skin they are in. Ah-Shi Beauty has the opportunity to help the 500+ recognized reservations that are ignored. For the first time in history, we have a beauty brand with two locations that proudly operates both on and off a tribal reservation. I am in the position to expand and scale to exponential heights. All tribes across the country can relate to Ah-Shi Beauty. As the face of the brand, I am always pushing the narrative to show the world that we are here and our indigenous beauty will be recognized and respected. Ah-Shi Beauty is going to bring positive change to the beauty industry. We are a part of the movement that is resetting and reshaping beauty standards. The beauty industry can now include a member from the reservation at the table. I represent hope to my people. I am ready to work, learn and be the next Timeless Ionic Beauty Brand.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

To say that Michelle Roques-O’Neil is one of the leading lights of aromatherapy, globally today, would be an understatement. With over 40 years of experience, she is a spiritual health and wellness expert with rare intuition and a gift for healing that goes way beyond the dizzying array of disciplines she has knowledge of. Not only a trained aromatherapist but a Reiki Master, a trained reflexologist, a sound and cranio-sacral therapist who has studied Native American rituals, numerology, shamanism, Taoist Qi Gong, SRT and the alchemy of essences. Michelle offers one of the most spiritually profound and life-changing healing experiences currently available, globally, full stop. One client described a treatment with her as ‘like going on a retreat’.It all began back in the 1970s. Michelle left school and started off by cutting people’s hair with the original thought of going into hair and make-up. She trained in beauty therapy at Joan Price’s Face Place and Joan famously observed ‘have you ever thought of being a masseur, you’ve got incredible hands.’ A chance meeting with a model led her to explore the idea of aromatherapy massage and she wrote to ‘Godmother of aromatherapy’ Micheline Arcier and asked for an apprenticeship. Michelle then commenced on a transformative four-year journey with Micheline, intensively learning all she could about aromatherapy and massage and devouring books about healing and emotional modulation. Micheline Arcier (1923-2006) is credited with introducing aromatherapy into the UK. From her clinic in Knightsbridge she also trained aromatherapy luminaries Sue Beechey and Geraldine Howard, (contemporary to Michelle) who went on to found the global brand Aromatherapy Associates. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Dr. Orit Markowitz, New York City Board-Certified Dermatologist, skin cancer expert and Founder of OptiSkin in NYC, is revolutionizing the treatment of Basal Cell Skin Cancers. Dr. Orit Markowitz just completed a recent study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, which shows how her signature technique, dubbed the “Markowitz Method” is the cutting edge of skin cancer treatment without the cutting. Using a customized combination of non-ablative lasers, the Markowitz Method has been proven more efficacious on non-melanoma skin cancers than invasive treatments like excision and radiation. Over the past decade, Dr. Markowitz has served as Director of Pigmented Lesions and Skin Cancer at both Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology and Brooklyn Veterans Hospital of Downstate University Medical Center, as well as Associate Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai and SUNY Downstate University Medical Center. Countless medical professionals told Indie Lee after she was diagnosed with a life threatening brain tumor in 2008 that there was very little that could be done. Doctors felt that the tumor could be environmentally derived and attributed to something as simple as what she was putting on her skin. This was her awakening. After surviving a successful surgery on Earth Day 2009 (yes, really.), she embarked upon a new journey - a clean beauty collection dedicated to inspiring and empowering others to be mindful about what they put on their skin as well as into their body. “When I was given a finite amount of time to live, the world became technicolor - I now appreciate every moment and I feel very fortunate to be creating a platform that will allow others to do the same. Education and empowerment are my driving forces and this line is the medium enabling me to pay my knowledge forward.” -IndieToday, Indie works with some of the world’s leading chemists and formulators who share her vision for the beauty and wellness industry, working to bring the cleanest, most efficacious formulas and products to market. She has spoken about her mission at events such as SXSW and PopSugar Play/Ground. She also serves on the FIDM Beauty Program’s Advisory Council. It is her sincere hope that her awakening creates change and inspires others to make healthier choices--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

Millennial entrepreneur Andrea Lisbona is setting out to disrupt the stale hand sanitizer industry with her innovative brand aimed at elevating everyday experiences, which has been in the works for more than a decade. Inspired by great innovators and the marriage of great function with great design, Andrea developed Touchland, a revolutionary brand of hand sanitizers that combine sleek, functional packaging with non-sticky, moisturizing, luxurious-feeling formulas that come in eight amazing scents.Lisbona ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2018, which resulted in the brand reaching 450% of its initial fundraising goal and more than 1,500 pre-orders for the product in just one month. In Touchland's first year of business, the brand enjoyed success largely driven by their community of social media followers (until recently, this community was grown and fostered directly by Andrea herself!). In that year, Touchland surpassed $2M+ in sales and landed retail distribution with ULTA, Urban Outfitters, Revolve, Liberty London, Sephora Mexico & many more. Touchland's innovative design and superior quality was instantly embraced by celebrities and influencers alike; the brand now counts Kris Jenner, Kesha, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyra Banks, Huda Kattan, KathleenLights and many more as fans! At the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, Andrea recognized the threat to the supply chain and pulled all manufacturing to North America so she could more closely manage the situation. After briefly selling out of Power Mists in mid-March, the brand amassed a waiting list of more than 34,000 orders! While most hand sanitizers remained out of stock, Touchland was able to ramp up production, clear regular FDA testing and get back on the shelves within a matter of weeks. Now, Touchland has been expanding into new retail partnerships with Target, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and many more. Additionally, the brand's KUB Hand Sanitizer Dispenser--which is the first internet-connected solution of its kind--has exploded to represent 50% of their business, with strategic partners like Equinox, Louis Vuitton, Sweetgreen, Marriott and dozens more. All the while, Touchland has been donating their hand sanitizers to hospitals and teachers to assist those working on the frontlines during the pandemic.Andrea is originally from Barcelona and relocated to the US in 2018 in order to manage the growth of Touchland from the US. She holds an MBA from ESADE and was a featured expert speaker at the European Commission. She currently lives in Miami with her husband and Chippy and Coco, their beloved schnauzers. In her spare time, she networks with other female entrepreneurs to share resources and advice. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

SSD’s love of skincare grew out of her frustration with her own skin. After high school, her occasional flare ups became constant. including consistent cystic acne. Throughout college and as she entered a career in public relations and fashion. Sahar knew she had to get this under control because it wasn’t just affecting her skin, her confidence and mental strength were also being affected. Seeking the guidance of aestheticians and dermatologists alike, her education in skincare really began. After understanding that our skin can be a reflection of what’s going on internally, SSD sought out skin products with proven efficacy to enhance her skin’s texture and purity. Products that would calm The redness and inflammation, actively fight breakouts an hydrate the skin. That Experience lead to SSD to emerge her passions for skincare with mental health awareness. As an avid advocate for mental health coalition, her desire is for more people to embrace the fact that happiness is an inside job. Happy skin, Happy Within is not just a tag line - it is a mantra she lives by, but it takes work and community. The development of Sundree is a natural progression in its journey. An entrepreneur and true GLOW-getter at heart, SSD has founded multiple successful companies, most notable, laChambre Public Relations. Building branch through strategic VIP placement and media relations over the last 15 years, SSD has worked with some of the worlds most recognizable brands, including Aritzia, Kenneth Cole, Keds, New Balance, Swarovski, Elie Saab, Charlotte Olympia, and many more. Sahar also hopes to see more young, female entrepreneurs and people of color succeed. That’s why she launch INCUBATE, pro bono program that supports emerging designers and beauty entrepreneurs within the BIPOC community. SSD is also a founding member of I am a voter., a nonpartisan movement that aims to create a cultural shifty around voting and civic engagement. SVN is a skincare junkie at heart whose obsession with all things skin started at a very early age. As a young girl, SVN watched her mom apply her skincare products gently with ease, always marking the importance of taking care of skin and having a committed routine to follow. As SVN embarked on the world of being a teenager, she was continuously reminded to wash her face nightly and to apply sunscreen regularly. This is where SVN’s love of skincare began. After graduating from the USC Marshall School of Business, Sahar attended and graduated law school. As important as her education was to her, deep down, Sahar knew she was meant to answer a higher calling - creating her own brand. She thought to herself, ‘What better field to venture into than the one I’ve been a part of since I was a girl - skincare!’ While pregnant, SVN was wary of the potentially toxic and impossible-to-pronounce ingredients in most of her skincare lineup. She also recognized that her seven-step routine was just way too complicated with the number of new responsibilities on her plate. But when she looked for a brand that was clean, simple, effective and affordable, she couldn’t find one. Realizing that skincare doesn’t need to be this complex, she began her journey to simplify skincare with the belief that less is more. Wanting only the best for herself, and women everywhere, she joined forces with SSD to bring Sundree to life.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

A moment of inspiration started a movement in the world of hair and body care. That moment happened when Carmen Tal discovered the transformative power of argan oil, beginning her journey to become the creative visionary behind the international, multi-category beauty brand Moroccanoil. While living in Montreal, she received a bad color process that left her hair severely damaged. “I was visiting Tel Aviv soon after this bad experience when I discovered what the Moroccanoil Treatment is today. I was at a local salon when a stylist applied an astonishing argan oil-infused treatment to my hair,” she says. The oil-infused treatment was different from any product she had ever tried before— and as a salon owner, she had tried many. “I saw the results instantly: My hair became shiny, smooth and manageable.”Carmen knew right away that this argan oil treatment was special, and she wanted to share it with other women. At the time, oil treatments were practically unheard of in the industry. “Everyone told us it was a flawed plan, that the market was too saturated with products,” she recalls. But her experience—as a hair salon owner, an executive in the fashion industry and a working mother— gave her a keen instinct for what other women would love. “With the demands of home and work life, finding products that are easy to use and make adventurous styling simple is a priority,” she says. The result was the now-famous original Moroccanoil Treatment. Her pivotal moment of inspiration revolutionized the beauty industry, creating an all-new oil-infused hair care category and an iconic brand in less than a decade.Today Moroccanoil remains the leader in oil-infused beauty, offering a complete line of hair care and styling products, as well as Moroccanoil BodyTM and Moroccanoil SunTM, in more than 65 countries and counting. Moroccanoil products are also used by top stylists for high-profile magazine shoots, fashion shows around the globe and awards shows like the Oscars and the Grammys. As Moroccanoil has grown into an international lifestyle brand, Carmen has remained a passionate, hands-on leader. Her vision forms the core of the brand’s DNA, from the unmistakable turquoise packaging to the exotic signature fragrance. “The Mediterranean is the root of my ideas,” she says. “The colors of the ocean, the clothes people wear, the fragrances in the air all inspire my vision for the brand.”With the launch of the Moroccanoil BodyTM and Moroccanoil SunTM collections, the brand now offers a complete head-to-toe lifestyle experience. “The body lineup is inspired by life’s pleasures—an exhilarating, experiential and sensorial journey through the Mediterranean—with products that not only refresh and rejuvenate the skin, but also provide well-being to the mind and senses.”--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support

With deep rooted beauty beginnings, Lan Belinky was destined to lead a global skincare brand. Born and raised until her young teens in Japan, the infamous center of skin care innovation, Lan was fascinated by the infinite beauty trends and tactics she was continually exposed to. Mesmerized by her Grandmother's meticulous 6-step beauty ritual and her Aunt's unique product application practices; the allure of the beauty world naturally beckoned. In the Spring of 1996, Lan's family moved to the United States so her Father and boscia Founder, Gen Inomata, could realize his dream of bringing Japanese influenced skincare stateside. Lan spoke solely Japanese at the time and worked diligently to learn English as a second language and acclimate into the American culture that was so brand new to her – but always, always held close her Japanese roots.Fast-forward a few years later, Gen's dream was realized and boscia was born. Lan attended The University of the Incarnate Word and graduated with a degree in Business Marketing, while spending every available moment helping to cultivate boscia. After graduating, Lan joined boscia full-time and helped lead many of the brand's major milestones including the first foray into prestige retail. Lan passionately believed in the power of boscia's fusion of botanical (BŌ) science (SHA), and that powerful skincare results could in fact be obtained from good-for-you ingredients. Lan attributes much of her contributions to boscia's growth directly to her biculturality. boscia's first collections (Tsubaki, Sake and Charcoal) were all inspired by her Japanese heritage as was BB Cream, which was the first of its kind to hit the US prestige retail market and garnered staggering success. In the Summer of 2010, Lan unearthed the Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask which catapulted to skincare fame and created the instantly gratifying peel-off mask craze. The Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask continues to reign as a boscia fan-favorite.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/support
