Your GLP-1 hair loss may not be from low protein or fast weight loss and the real reason could mean it never grows back on its own. Dietitian Ana Reisdorf is joined by NYU alopecia expert Dr. Kristen Lo Sicco on the warning sign and how to protect your hair on GLP-1s like Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, or Retatrutide.

IN THIS EPISODE

  • Why GLP-1 hair loss isn't always caused by rapid weight loss or low protein
  • The 6-month shedding warning sign that means it's time to see a dermatologist
  • How GLP-1s can "unmask" androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss)
  • Low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) for GLP-1 shedding โ€” does it work, and is it forever?
  • The vitamin D, iron, and zinc levels that matter most for hair regrowth

The Hidden Anxiety of Weight Loss w/ Dr. Robyn Pashby

32 min Transcript
Open

Send us Fan Mail

Ana Reisdorf, MS, RD, talks with Dr. Robyn Pashby, clinical health psychologist and founder of Health Psychology Partners, about the mental load of weight loss - why anxiety often climbs as the scale drops, why diet rules feel impossible to release on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound, and why weight management works better as lifelong care than a finish line. If you've ever felt afraid to trust your body on a GLP-1, this conversation gives you a calmer framework for what actually matters.

IN THIS EPISODE
- Why anxiety often goes up when weight comes down on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound
- The hidden "diet backpack" that keeps people stuck in food tracking, calendar countdowns, and on/off-the-wagon thinking
- Why GLP-1 medications should be treated as one tool in a lifelong toolbox, not a permanent solution
- How to build an obesity-medicine-trained care team (physician, registered dietitian, psychologist, movement specialist)
- How to respond when family, friends, or neighbors judge your decision to use a GLP-1

ABOUT THE GUEST
Dr. Robyn Pashby is the founder of Health Psychology Partners and a clinical health psychologist with a dual-track PhD in medical and clinical psychology and nearly 20 years of clinical experience focused on weight, eating, internalized weight bias, anxiety, and relational concerns. She serves on the National Board of Directors of the Obesity Action Coalition, the American Diabetes Association's Obesity and Weight Management Advisory Group, and the Clinical Practice Committee of The Obesity Society, and holds a research faculty appointment at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. A PSYPACT-approved psychologist, she trains physicians and allied healthcare providers on weight-inclusive care and provides telehealth therapy in more than 40 states.

When GLP-1s Don't Work and What to Do Next w/ Alex Mufson

Some women aren't losing weight on max-dose GLP-1s โ€” and the fix is dosing down, not pushing harder.

Ana Reisdorf, registered dietitian and GLP-1 user, sits down with Alex Mufson, LCSW and founder of Canary House, to unpack why high-functioning women show up as non-responders on Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound. They cover the labs traditional medicine misses, why under-eating sabotages results, and how regulating the body โ€” not suppressing appetite โ€” is what actually moves the scale.

IN THIS EPISODE
- Why some non-responders lose more on a microdose of tirzepatide than on a maximum dose
- The ferritin, fasting insulin, and Dutch Plus markers most GLP-1 prescribers don't run
- The glucose-insulin mismatch behind weight gain that "doesn't make sense"
- Why appetite suppression isn't the goal of GLP-1 therapy โ€” and can stall fat loss entirely
- How epigenetics, survival mode, and high-functioning caretaker patterns block GLP-1 response

ABOUT THE GUEST
Alex Mufson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is the founder of Canary House, an integrative healing practice specializing in high-functioning individuals living with persistent exhaustion, pain, and unexplained symptoms despite normal or inconclusive labs. Her work focuses on nervous, immune, and metabolic regulation for people whose lives appear stable on paper but feel increasingly effortful from the inside.

Before Ozempic was a weight-loss story, it was a diabetes drug - and at diabetes doses, it behaves nothing like the version you've heard about.

Registered dietitian Ana Reisdorf sits down with diabetes specialist Christa Brown, RD, to unpack what GLP-1s actually do for type 2 diabetes - and why they rarely cause the blood sugar crashes other diabetes meds do. They cover dosing, A1C, nutrition, and the lifestyle pieces still doing real work alongside the medication.

IN THIS EPISODE

  • How GLP-1s lower A1C without causing dangerous low blood sugar - the four-mechanism breakdown
  • Mounjaro vs. Ozempic: how diabetes dosing actually differs from weight-loss dosing
  • Why type 2 diabetes patients shouldn't fear carbs on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro
  • The vitamin D, magnesium, and B12 deficiencies behind GLP-1 fatigue, and what to take
  • Adaptogens, sleep hygiene, and the lifestyle moves that quietly improve blood sugar on their own

The Subtle Art of Slowing Down with Beverly Atkins

You've lost the weight - so why does your brain still see you as heavier? And why does "slowing down" feel nearly impossible when pushing through is how you've survived?

Feldenkrais practitioner Beverly Atkins, a lifelong yo-yo dieter and former Facebook exec, joins Ana to explain why nervous system regulation may be the piece of your GLP-1 journey that willpower and meal plans can't touch.

In this episode:

  • ย Why your brain takes around 6 months to update its internal body map after weight loss and why you still feel heavier than the scale says
  • What somatic exercise actually did to Beverly's food noise (and what it didn't)
  • Why "flexible brains, not flexible bodies" is the real point of this work and why the best lessons are audio-only on purpose
  • The "hot candle wax" technique Beverly uses with clients and why it doubles as a 2 a.m. sleep hack
  • How to tell your nervous system is regulating (hint: other people notice before you do)
  • A starting point if every somatic program you've tried felt impossibly slow

About the guest:
Beverly Atkins is a Guild-Certified Feldenkraisยฎ Practitioner and the founder of Pauseture, an app that makes Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movementยฎ lessons accessible. After putting her back out while working in tech in 2014, she discovered these movement awareness lessons and was surprised to find they improved not only her pain, but also her stress response and relationship with food. Today she focuses on making this approach more accessible through Pauseture, helping people improve nervous system regulation, movement efficiency, and body awareness.

What does resilience really look like when your life depends on the next decision? In this episode, Ana Reisdorf talks with Ty Gipson about growing up with type 1 diabetes, losing kidney function, facing dialysis, undergoing multiple organ transplants, and the mindset that helped him keep moving forward through every stage of the journey. They also discuss why his medical team later recommended a GLP-1, what benefits he experienced beyond weight loss, and why he says he feels better now than he has in years.

About Ty Gipson:
Ty Gipson is a speaker and mindset advocate whose message is built around one core principle: there are no options when it comes to doing what it takes. After facing life-altering challenges that forced him to either grow or die, Ty learned firsthand that progress comes from discipline, ownership, and action, not excuses. Today, he teaches leaders, athletes, and everyday people about his No Options Mindset centered around mental toughness, resilience, and choosing to grow when you have no options.

Long-Term GLP-1 Success: Beyond the Scale w/ Kimmi Le

38 min Transcript

Send us Fan Mail

What does long-term GLP-1 use actually look like in real life?ย

In this episode, Ana sits down with clinical pharmacist Kimmi Le of Solara Labs/Barimelts to talk about the bigger picture of staying on GLP-1 medications over time. They unpack why weight loss alone is not the same thing as better health, what labs and biomarkers matter most, and how to think about muscle, nutrient status, digestion, inflammation, and long-term maintenance. Kimmi shares a practical perspective on microdosing, why some patients may do better staying on a lower long-term dose, and how to avoid the cycle of losing and regaining weight. They also talk about nutrient absorption, supplement quality, bariatric surgery considerations, and what may be coming next in the GLP-1 space.

ย In this episode, youโ€™ll learn:ย

  • Why โ€œthe scale going downโ€ doesnโ€™t always mean health is improving
  • The role of exercise and muscle preservation on GLP-1s
  • How slowed digestion can affect nutrient absorption
  • What bariatric patients should keep in mind when using GLP-1 medications
  • Why form and quality matter when choosing supplements
  • How clinicians are thinking about long-term use, lower dosing, and maintenance

ย About Kimmi Le: Kimmi Le is a clinical pharmacist with additional training in nutrition, herbalism, and culinary medicine through Tulane Medical Schoolโ€™s teaching kitchen. She works in the supplement space with Solara Labs/Barimelts, with a focus on practical support for women using GLP-1 medications and bariatric patients.ย

Jess Perreca joins Ana Reisdorf to share his powerful personal story of obesity, massive weight loss, regain, bariatric surgery, and what finally feels different in this season of his life with GLP-1 support. He opens up about growing up with obesity, reaching nearly 600 pounds, losing more than 200 pounds twice, and the emotional patterns that kept pulling him backward. Jess also explains why one of the biggest changes hasnโ€™t just been the weight loss itself, but the relief from pain, inflammation, and swelling that has made everyday life feel more manageable. This is an honest conversation about food noise, emotional eating, shame, persistence, and what it looks like to keep going even after setbacks.ย

About Our Guestย

Jess Perreca Jr. is the creator of Time4Change365 and Everyday Ascend, where he shares an honest look at weight loss, mindset, and what sustainable change really takes. After reaching a high of 588 pounds, Jess lost well over 200 pounds, experienced regain, and recommitted to his health with structure, accountability, and transparency. His journey has included bariatric surgery, GLP-1 medication, and the ongoing mental battle with food noise, shame, and consistency that so many people living with obesity understand firsthand. A husband, father of two, and full-time IT professional, Jess now uses his platforms to encourage others to keep moving forward and become 1% better each day.ย

If youโ€™ve noticed your pain improving on a GLP-1 medication, you may not be imagining it, and it may not be just because of weight loss. In this episode, Ana sits down with Dr. Asare Christian, an integrative pain management physician, to talk about why chronic pain is often treated too narrowly, how inflammation, sleep, trauma, stress, and metabolic health all shape the pain experience, and why GLP-1 medications like semaglutide may have a direct pain-relieving effect even at low doses. They also dig into migraines, how low-dose semaglutide may fit into pain care, the micronutrients that still matter when appetite is lower, and why lasting pain relief usually takes more than a single medication or procedure.

About our Guest:
Dr. Asare B. Christian, MD, MPH, FAAMFM, is a board-certified longevity medicine physician and founder of Aether Medicine, a concierge performanceย  & longevity clinic in Pennsylvania. GLP-1 medications can be life-changing, but rapid weight loss can also mean losing muscle if you are not actively protecting it. In this episode, Ana Reisdorf sits down with registered dietitian Jennifer Scheinman to talk about why muscle strength matters just as much as muscle mass, how mitochondria influence energy, mobility, and healthy aging, and what GLP-1 users can do right now to support muscle with a balanced diet, enough protein, exercise, and smart supplementation. They also break down the emerging research on urolithin A, including how it may support mitochondrial recycling and muscle strength, why that matters for fatigue and long-term function, and where it may fit into a practical GLP-1 lifestyle.

Fat is one of the most misunderstood macronutrients, and when you're eating less on a GLP-1, choosing the right fats matters more than ever. In this episode, Ana sits down with Dr. Renee Korczak, PhD, RDN, to cut through the noise around dietary fats. They cover the four main types of fat, why unsaturated fats (MUFAs and PUFAs) should make up the bulk of what you eat, how to handle the protein-plus-saturated-fat challenge on a GLP-1, where omega-3s fit in, and how to approach the micronutrient deficiencies GLP-1 users are increasingly running into. They also tackle the beef tallow trend head-on and make a strong case for why the low-fat era of the 90s was both wrong and unforgettable. If you've been unsure whether to count fat, fear fat, or just eat the avocado, this episode gives you a practical, science-backed framework you can actually use.

How to Find a Quality GLP-1 Provider w/ Sabina Hemmi

Navigating the world of GLP-1 telehealth providers is overwhelming and most people have no reliable way to compare options before committing hundreds of dollars. Sabina Hemmi has been on a GLP-1 for over three years, lost 60 pounds, dealt with nearly every side effect in the book, and turned her frustration with the provider landscape into a full platform to help others avoid the confusion she went through. In this episode, she walks through what GLP Winner tracks and why โ€” price breakdowns, compounding pharmacy transparency, real user reviews, and the vetting process behind adding a new provider. She also breaks down the current legal landscape around compounded GLP-1s, which states are pushing legislation that could cut off access, and why that matters beyond just weight loss medication. ย

About Our Guest, Sabina Hemmi: Sabina Hemmi is the founder of GLP Winner (glpwinner.com), a platform built to help GLP-1 patients compare telehealth providers, understand pricing, and evaluate compounding pharmacies โ€” all in one place. She has been on a GLP-1 medication for over three years and lost 60 pounds. Before GLP Winner, Sabina built companies in the video game industry and co-owns speedrun.com, the leading leaderboard platform for video game speedrunning. She created GLP Winner after personally experiencing how difficult and opaque the telehealth provider landscape was โ€” and after interviewing more than 150 patients who shared the same story. She now tracks over 100 providers, publishes monthly reviews, and covers access and compounding legislation across social media under the handle @Lawliepop.ย

In this episode, Ana Reisdorf sits down with Beth Gerhart, co-founder of Tyde Wellness, to talk about what realistic, sustainable weight loss actually looks like on GLP-1 medications. Beth shares insights from five years of working with GLP-1 patients โ€” including why some people are "super responders," how to handle plateaus, and the habits that separate people who keep the weight off from those who regain it.

They also cover how to safely taper off the medication (or microdose for maintenance), the rebound hunger trap that catches people who skip meals, and the surprising non-weight-loss benefits patients are reporting โ€” from reduced joint pain to better sleep.

About Beth Gerhart:

Beth Gerhart is the Co-Founder and Chief Care Officer of Tyde Wellness and one of the leading voices in patient-centered GLP-1 care. With more than 20 years in the wellness industry, Beth has helped thousands of patients through medication-based weight loss, personalized nutrition planning, microdosing protocols, and lasting behavior change.

Studies show most people regain up to 80% of their weight after stopping GLP-1 medications like Wegovy, Zepbound, Mounjaro, or Ozempic. But it doesn't have to be that way. Dr. Holly Wyatt and Dr. Jim Hill, leading weight loss maintenance researchers and one of the co-founders of the National Weight Control Registry, share their science-backed strategies for keeping weight off when you stop the medication. They break down the three essential pillarsโ€”nutrition, exercise, and mindsetโ€”and explain why the medications are a "fix" not a cure. Whether you're planning to taper off, considering staying on long-term, or exploring your options, this conversation offers practical plays you can implement to protect your progress.

Are you waking up at 3AM with your heart racing? Feeling wired but tired all day? Dr. Holly Donahue, a naturopathic doctor with over two decades of experience, reveals why so many GLP-1 users struggle with sleep, and it's not the medication itself. The real culprit is what most people are doing (or not doing) with their nutrition. In this conversation, Ana and Dr. Donahue break down the cortisol-blood sugar connection, why your body might be spiking stress hormones overnight, and exactly what you need to eat to sleep soundly while on a GLP-1. If you're exhausted, not losing weight despite doing "everything right," or just want to feel better on your medication, this episode gives you the blueprint.ย

About Dr. Donahue:

ย Dr. Holly Donahue is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with over two decades of clinical experience who discovered naturopathic medicine's power over 30 years ago when a customized treatment plan completely turned her life aroundโ€”prompting her to leave corporate America and pursue medicine. She now helps high performers heal from burnout, fatigue, hormone imbalance, and weight issues without chasing silver bullets, addressing health at the level of body, mind, and spirit. She's the founder of Simple Health, a virtual wellness company delivering personalized naturopathic coaching and treatment programs nationwide, with her work featured on Voice America, the Health Mastery for Leaders Summit, and other performance-driven health platforms.ย

In this episode, Ana Reisdorf (Registered Dietitian and GLP-1 user) sits down with Laraine and Christopher from The Downsized to unpack what happens when GLP-1s change more than the scale. They share their combined 150+ lb loss, what maintenance really looks like (including dose decisions), and the mental shift of unlearning decades of โ€œdiet brain.โ€

Youโ€™ll hear the unfiltered realities: food noise returning when dosing changes, side effects that can be unpredictable, access anxiety, and the non-scale victories that matter most - less inflammation, less pain, and getting your life back. They also cover what their audience asks every day: plateaus, fear of the first shot, โ€œwhat do I eat?โ€, and how to advocate for yourself when youโ€™re not getting enough guidance.

More About Laraine and Christopher:

Christopher and Laraine Durham are the husband-and-wife team behind The Downsized, a daily YouTube channel for people who want honest, real-world conversations about GLP-1 medications and the medical treatment of obesity.

They have been married for 22 years and live in Charlotte, North Carolina, with their three kids. Together, they have lost more than 150 pounds using GLP-1 therapies, including tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and Zepbound. They started this channel in September 2023 after realizing how confusing, lonely, and overwhelming this process can feel.

GLP-1s are changing lives, but most people still donโ€™t understand what theyโ€™re actually replacing. In this episode, Dietitian Ana Reisdorf talks with Ashley Koff, RD about the โ€œweight health hormoneโ€ ecosystem behind GLP-1s: how digestion and hormone signaling connect, why one-size-fits-no-one advice (like โ€œjust eat more fiberโ€) can backfire, and what real maintenance can look like without turning it into another diet plan.ย

About Ashley Koff, RD

Ashley Koff, RD is the founder of The Better Nutrition Program (BNP), the Nutrition Course Director for UC Irvineโ€™s Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute's Integrative and Functional Medicine Fellowship, and a faculty member at the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFNA), where she teaches โ€œAn Integrative and Functional Nutrition Approach to Obesity and Weight Management.โ€ She is also the author of the upcoming book, Your Best Shot (Harper One, January 6, 2026). A practitioner for over 25 years, Koff is leading a transformative movement in personalized nutrition, turning โ€œbetter, not perfectโ€ choices into practical, sustainable strategies that deliver real health outcomes. Through patient stories and personal experience, she shows that optimal health is not just possibleโ€”itโ€™s essential to living your fullest life. Koff has been recognized as one of CNNโ€™s Top 100 Health Makers, featured in InStyle as โ€œHollywoodโ€™s Leading Dietitian,โ€ and has been selected as Westinโ€™s Global Nutrition Ambassador.ย

On GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound, eating less means every bite matters. In this episode, registered dietitian Ana Reisdorf explains why side effects like constipation, fatigue, and muscle loss arenโ€™t caused by the medication, but by what youโ€™re not eating. She challenges the protein-only mindset, reveals the most overlooked nutrient on GLP-1s, and shares a simple framework for building meals that actually support fat loss and long-term health. If you want better results without feeling miserable, this episode changes how you think about food on GLP-1.ย
