Kerry Tepedino has made her mark as a top leader in the personal development space for women. Kerry came from a hard background of low self-esteem, not believing in herself, being 45-50 pounds heavier than she is today and desperate for change. Through deep study of personal development, leadership, holistic health, nutrition, Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and breath work, Kerry created her Sacred Self System, which helped her life go from rock bottom to where she is today... loving a life that she never thought could be possible for her. She has influenced over 150,000 people worldwide in mindset mastery, emotional mastery, loving themselves, and believing that with the proper mentorship, community and strategies... anything is possible.

  • Every moment is a choice in how you act. You always have the opportunity to course correct
  • Create a learning experience for your child from the difficult moments
  • Know that it is ok to take a moment for yourself when you reach your limit. Know your limits.

48 min
View

Ariella Shuster, Esq., is a practicing family law attorney on a mission to support people in keeping their dignity and respect intact as they move through separation and divorce. She's a professional life coach, with special expertise in divorce coaching, a mediator, a yoga instructor, a speaker, and mom to a rapidly growing teenage son. Here is what to expect on this week’s show as Rebecca discusses common marital mistakes, and some sound advice from John Gottman:

  • John Gottman’s 4 Horsemen of Divorce: Contempt, Criticism, Defensiveness, and Stonewalling. If any of these 4 are not addressed, your relationship will not likely survive.
  • Don’t expect your partner to be able to read your mind and know what you really want. Vocalize your wishes and needs!
  • Prioritize your marriage. Without a strong marital foundation, all the rest will fall apart.
  • Love your partner the way THEY want to be loved, not the way YOU want to be love. Everyone has their own “love language.”
  • Stop letting your hair down- comfort is wonderful, but make sure to show up for your spouse and give them a reason to choose you every day. Tend your marital garden.
  • Don’t expect your partner to be you. They are not, nor are you them. Respect that you each have different ideas and ways to do things.
  • Stop thinking little things don’t matter. What may seem small to you may not be to your partner. Little things have a way of building up to big things. This goes for the good and the bad.
  • Break the marital pattern. Constantly repeating the same mistakes does not bode well. Marriage is a work in progress and growth is vital.
  • Stop talking and listen! Don’t let your feelings and thoughts override what your partner is trying to tell you.
  • Put yourself in your spouse’s shoes. Having empathy and perspective is vitally important.
  • Protect your marriage from outside influences that do not serve it.
  • Don’t do things you feel need to be a secret from your spouse.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show- are you making any of these common mistakes?

  • Self-Care is selfish. It is NOT selfish, it is NECESSARY. You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of others.
  • Thinking you need to entertain your kids around the clock. It is important for them to have downtime and be able to entertain themselves.
  • Thinking your children are not listening to you. They hear you and process what you are saying. Not complying does not mean they don’t listen. Learn to be less reactive.
  • Telling them instead of showing them. Be a good example and practice what you preach.
  • Parenting from a place of reactivity. When you are reactive and upset, your family and kids will tune out. It is ineffective. Pause, regroup, reset, and approach the topic in a calmer place.
  • Putting your kids first all the time. Beyond basic needs, you must take care of yourself first, so you are healthy and able to take care of others. You must take care of your marriage, so your kids have a stable foundation. THEN, you take care of your kids.
  • Giving THINGS instead of TIME. Stop buying them presents, and gift them with your presence. Your time and attention are far more valuable.
  • Nagging and constantly talking about problems with your children. You want your kids to want to come to you to talk about important things, so make sure you have regular conversations, too. Balance it out.
  • Feeling guilty about your parenting. Working, stay-at-home, making money, not making money. Stop feeling guilty about what you choose. Be where you are and put energy into what you are doing, and embrace it.
  • Doing everything for your children. They need to learn how to do things. Learn to let go of the control and be patient as they learn how to do things well and correctly. Eventually, it will be a benefit to everyone. These are life skills they need.
  • Taking your kids’ behavior personally. Their behavior is complex and likely about someone or something else. Take time to listen and understand and give them space.
  • Being punitive. Corrective measures are far more effective than punitive measures. Children will be more likely to make better choices if they aren’t always doing things out of fear of punishment. Learning the consequences of their choices and actions is important.
  • Trying to parent alone. You need support! Whether it is a spouse, family, or friends, you need to use your resources when you are stretched thin.Parenting is about you. If you think your child will turn out the way you want, and follow the path you lay out for them, you will find yourself very disappointed and frustrated. Parenting is about caring for the child you have, not the child you want to have.

Irene Fehr, MA, CPCC, Certified Sex & Intimacy Coach, helps couples make love and sex work in long-term relationships and bring sex and passion into sexless ones. Determined to dispel myths about why sex dies in long-term monogamous relationships that cause heartache and broken dreams, Irene’s views have been featured all around the world in HuffPost, Cosmopolitan, Shape, Refinery29, ScaryMommy, EliteDaily and Bustle. She is no stranger to her clients' issues, having recovered from the all-too-common story of ‘happy marriage turned sexless’ when she lost her libido — all before turning 30.

Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Irene Fehr about the often-secret subject of loss of intimacy within a relationship and debunking the myths that women have about sex.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • The painful feeling of losing one’s libido and how it impacts all areas of life, including your sense of worth.
  • Sexual desire is one of our most primal needs as a species. When this is lost, it affects us in myriad ways. Feeling the connection with it is very powerful.
  • Myth 1: Women who are not sexual are broken.
  • In the Western world, media and the greater social community would have women believe they are broken if they have a loss in libido.
  • As a couple in a long-term relationship, it is necessary to deal with multiple sets of factors when desire is lost.
  • Women often feel they need to match the same spontaneous desire that their male partners do. This just isn’t realistic. Women generally have responsive sexual desire.
  • Physical engagement and relaxation are precursors to desire and arousal for women.
  • Myth 2: Women can do it all, be it all and still have energy and desire for intimacy at the end of the day.
  • Despite women’s capabilities to do much, they are only human and have finite energy and patience.
  • Instead of pushing to do more, focus on removing things from your daily to-dos so you have room and energy left for intimacy.
  • Myth 3: In a long-term relationship, women should want to have sex with the man they love just because they love them.
  • There is not a single, automatic reason for wanting to have sex. It is more complex for women.
  • Intimacy is created in moments of connection and positive stimuli with your partner.
  • Myth 4: Assuming that engaging in obligatory sex will create a desire to engage in sex more.
  • Filling the pleasure cup: small, but frequent moments of joy and pleasure throughout the day will add up and create a state in which you feel desire. These moments can be something a small as enjoying a quiet moment, or smelling a flower.
  • How you and your partner can better communicate their needs and work together to create more intimacy.

Episode 217: Marital Check In

35 min
View

Listen to this special Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! This week, there is now blog. Instead, Rebecca sits down with Seth and talks about marriage, and opens up to questions from the live audience.

When it comes to a couple, there is not “the marriage,” but rather, “his marriage” and “her marriage.” There are two different viewpoints. To gain better insight on what your partner thinks your marriage is like, try this exercise with your spouse, by using these prompts:

  • This week, I am thankful that you___.
  • What did I do this week that made you feel loved and honored?
  • Is there anything you need that I have not given to you?
  • What attribute do you like best about me, and what attribute would you like me to work on?
  • Is there something I used to do that you wish I would re-start?
  • Is there anything that I have done recently that hurt you?
  • How do you feel about our split of responsibilities?
  • What do you want to teach our children about marriage?
  • In the next week, what is coming up, and how can I support you in that?
  • What is your goal for our marriage in the next year?
  • What is the best investment we can make in our marriage next year?
  • What did you learn from our marriage his year?

Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week!

Rebecca hosted a two day Parenting and Marriage Summit with excellent guest experts on, you guessed it: parenting and marriage! If you weren’t able to attend, please be on the lookout for those presentations coming up on the podcast!

This week, Rebecca discusses the lessons learned from her presenters on day 2 of the summit:

  • Elaine Taylor-Klaus and Diane Dempster of ImpactParents honed in on complex behaviors in kids and how tools to cope with things like ADHD and anxiety translate well for all children. Things to consider: Is it naughty or neurological? Meet your child where they are at and set them up for success. What motivates your child?
  • Rebekah Maddux-El Hakum spoke about marriage and relationships and teaches us to be more intentional with our words. “Never” and “Always” tend to be trigger words for an argument. She also discussed the stages our children go through and how we can’t compare one child to another and expect them to be the same at the same ages.
  • Allana Robinson taught us about how the brain works. She dives into thought, reasoning, and executive functioning in kids. Consistency and predictability will lead to a better sense of security in our kids.
  • Judy Herman discusses marriage and navigating emotions. Be curious with your partner about how they feel, it pulls you away from being judgmental. Learning to empathize will go a long way. In regards to choosing a partner, we pick, project, and provoke, which relates to your relationship with your parents when you were a child.
  • Dr. Laura Froyen teaches us that reframing triggers can create an opportunity to grow and learn. We can “reparent” ourselves and learn things we did not learn as children. Learning coping skills when you are calm will help you when you are in the midst of the conflict.

Episode 209: Overthinking Olympics

34 min
View

Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week!

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • This month’s Whinypaluza Book Club selection: Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff, PhD
  • Overthinking is an all-too-common issue amongst women.
  • Give yourself permission to make mistakes and grant yourself the same grace and compassion that you give others.
  • Self-criticism is easy when you hold yourself to impossible standards all the time.
  • You are a work in progress. Keep this in mind when you make mistakes.
  • ANTS: Automatic Negative Thoughts about a Situation (I’m stupid, I suck, I’m terrible, etc.)
  • PETS: Positive Empowering Thoughts in a Situation (I’m allowed to make mistakes, it’s ok, I’m learning something from this, etc.)
  • Physically beating yourself up is absurd, so why do we think it is ok to beat ourselves up in our thoughts?
  • Overthinking is latent protection mechanism from when we had to learn from negative events in order to stay alive.
  • Try compartmentalizing your worrying by allowing yourself to do it within a small period of time, like 5 minutes. Then, move on.
  • Enlist a team at home when you have too much to do, to help alleviate overthinking the to-do list.
  • Focus on what you have control over, rather than the feelings of overwhelm.
  • Take steps to move in the direction that will make you feel better.
  • Vocalizing what you are thinking can help to ease your mental burden. Find a friend to vent to, or write it down.
  • Do not overestimate the value of self-care. The better you take care of yourself, the better you will be able to process and take on the day’s challenges, which means less overthinking.
  • Plan for the worst-case scenario. Being prepared will make you feel less anxious.
  • Always be learning from your failures, as well as your successes.

Jessah is a Certified Health and Life Coach who helps women heal their body image and guides them to a sustainable approach to food and freedom so that they can finally feel confident and free in their body.

Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Jessah Autum about relearning what you know about the rules around diet and exercise to gain freedom in your life and your mind.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • Body image struggles are all too common amongst women, sometimes leading to eating disorders.
  • Learning how to eat with intuition, relearning what we know about food, and honoring health over food culture.
  • Letting go of learned rules of eating, and going back to what your body needs.
  • Food Freedom: Release of restrictions around food and finding guiding principles of your internal need of food.
  • Reframe a rule into a choice, and state why you are making the choice: put the power in your hands.
  • Why do we start having negative feelings around food and how can we teach our children differently?
  • Exposing diet culture: teach your children how pervasive and unrealistic it is, so they can avoid internalizing the messaging.
  • Teach your children boundaries about the topics they want to talk about. They don’t need to engage in diet and body image conversations.
  • What is the subconscious root to diet mentality, and what can we replace it with that serves us better?
  • Oftentimes the desires that drive our need to diet are not related to the weight itself. Identifying and addressing the root cause is far more effective.
  • Finding healthy exercises that you will consistently do requires finding something you love to do.
  • Overcoming the inner critic to achieve freedom of mind.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • In the ever-growing to-do list for the holidays, it is ok to draw a finish line.
  • You CAN opt out of things that bring you additional stress.
  • Even with early preparation, we still have last minute things to do. Congratulate yourself for what you were able to achieve early!
  • One caveat of early preparation, especially with wrapping gifts, is that you might forget what you have and what each thing is.
  • Some people use spreadsheets and account for all the gifts, money spent, etc. Find something that works for you and your organizational level, whether it is a spreadsheet or a journal.
  • Pay attention to how you feel. If something brings you stress or guilt, change it. If you feel great doing what you are doing- keep doing it!
  • Don’t be afraid to cross things off the list that just don’t work for you.
  • Look for innovations or compromises on things you don’t want to let go of doing, but don’t enjoy.

Episode 201: December Sanity for Moms

41 min
View

Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week!

December Sanity for Moms

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • What do you do to cope with stress, especially during the holidays?
  • Put the gifting stress into perspective: will the gifts make the holiday special, or will something else be more meaningful?
  • All the gifts don’t need to be amazing and perfect. The holiday ISN’T about the gifts.
  • Reinforce with your children that the holiday is about the memories more than the gifts.
  • You do not need to buy for everyone. Pare it down to people who really impact your life.
  • Big family? Draw names and buy for ONE person instead of everyone.
  • You don’t have to maintain traditions that don’t work for you. Make a list with your family about what you want to do. Remember: your opinion counts, too.
  • It is ok to skip cleaning and chores to fit the holiday business in, but don’t cut out regular, healthy eating and exercise. Make them a priority. Skipping them will make you feel worse, contributing to the stress.
  • Build downtime into your day.
  • Take time to have gratitude when you find yourself complaining or stressing about things that don’t matter.
  • If you want to have children who are less materialistic, set a good example.
  • Does grief factor into your seasonal stress? If the holidays trigger anxiety and depression due to grief, find a way to honor the person instead of skipping the holiday entirely, especially if you have others around you who want to celebrate with you.
  • Consider baking instead of shopping. Sometimes the gift of homemade treats is a special gift.

This week: Feeling Inspired Instead of Inadequate

  • No matter how much you do well, if you see someone else doing something that you think is better, it can make you feel inadequate. How do we stop feeling this way?
  • Instead of complaining, search for tools to be more successful at what you are struggling with?
  • The next time you see someone doing something right- say Thank You!
  • When you start to feel inadequate, start thinking of all the things you do successfully every day. Write down a list and pull it out when you are feeling bad.
  • Feel curious and inspired instead of inadequate. Think about which serves your better.
  • Our brain lies to us. Look for evidence, and tell it to be nice to you.
  • You never know what is going on in other people’s lives, so you cannot compare yourself to them. Everyone has their own insecurities.
  • There is room for everyone to succeed! Don’t feel like someone else’s success detracts from your own.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others. Learn to change your reaction when this happens. Comparison is the thief of joy.
  • Give yourself compassion!

Trips Evolve Over the Years

Family trips can be managed mayhem, whether you are driving or flying.

There is always a huge to-do list before you leave.

  • For those who have newly diagnosed children, remember to take a breath, absorb the knowledge of what is happening and THEN create a plan forward. Give yourself permission to feel whatever emotions you feel.

  • If you are feeling intimidated or unprepared, bring an advocate along with you to help.

This week: Helping Children Deal With Social Stress

  • The most important thing you can do to help your kid get through social stress is to be a safe and comforting place to come home to.
  • Push your child to join a group or sport or club at school.
  • There will always be social stress and conflict, no matter how many friends they have.
  • Some groups of friends are inclusive and some are exclusive. Your child needs to decide what kind of group they want to join.
  • If your child is in groups and has friends, but you still see issues, look at their social skills.
  • Model behavior of how to interact and be inclusive when engaging with others.
  • Social skills start in infancy, and go all the way through adulthood. Social skills include in-person interaction, online, and on the phone. Make sure kids know proper etiquette.
  • Build confidence in your child by helping them create a good story about themselves that they say to themselves and believe.
  • Dealing with conflicts will help them to develop problem solving skills.
  • Don’t project your needs and experiences on your children.
  • Help your kids to diversify types of friends and where they come from in their daily lives.
  • Don’t assume that your child is being inclusive or included. Ask questions.
  • Try to be in tune with how their friends interact with your kids.

This week: Saying Goodbye to Soccer

  • What do you do when an activity that once brought your child so much joy no longer does?
  • What do you do when you, as a parent, are highly invested in your child’s activities and they no longer want to do it?
  • It is difficult to learn to let go of the picture you had in your head, and the direction you thought your child was heading, when they no longer want to do the activity they have been doing for so long.
  • It is ok to sit with the information for a day or two before taking steps to make the change.
  • Be excited when your child wants to try a lot of different activities! Just because you are good at something does not mean you are passionate about it.
  • How you can approach the “what do you want to do when you grow up” conversation.
  • Remember to check in with your child often and gauge where they are in enjoyment of what they are participating. Ask if there are things they are interested in trying.
  • Remember that change and new challenges are good for personal growth.
  • Seeing your child be excited and passionate about something will make you feel great.
  • Help your child to make decisions that make them happy, rather than simply to please someone else.

This week: You Are Succeeding

  • When given a compliment, women often reply with “I’m trying” instead of a simple “thank you” Why?
  • How you view yourself and your efforts are often at a conflict with what others see.
  • Women are often overly modest when it comes to feeling accomplished.
  • We need to shift from deflecting comments to accepting them with grace.
  • Change “I try” to “I AM” or “I DO”
  • Success is not always some big, end point or destination. Success is little, things all day long.
  • What is the definition of a “Good Mother?” What is the definition of a “Good Enough Mother?

Episode 184: Honest Sex

45 min
View

Some say we are outgrowing marriage as a culture. However, the problem that author Shana James regularly sees as a relationship coach—and through her own divorce—is that many of us have not matured enough to create the emotionally-connected, sexually-satisfying relationships we long for. Shana is the creator and host of the Man Alive podcast and has a TEDx Talk, “What 1,000 Men's Tears Reveal About the Crisis Between Men and Women.” In her latest book, Honest Sex, she uses her Master’s in psychology, DISC, and Positive Intelligence certifications to guide readers.

As a relationship coach for 20 years, she humbly discovered the causes of disconnection and distrust in relationships, as well as how to build trust and keep passion alive. Shana’s new book, Honest Sex, teaches us what kind of honesty is effective for creating closeness, what sex actually is (rather than what we've been taught), and how to communicate desires and upsets to create more intimacy.

By examining new ways to sustain connection with a partner, author Shana James illuminates a framework for relationships to start strong and get more intimate and exciting over time.

Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Shana James about creating trust and honesty in your relationship to increase and improve intimacy with your partner.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • The topic of sex was very taboo for many of us growing up. Education was relegated to safety and reproduction. Having an open conversation about sex can lead to great discomfort for many of us.
  • Having an honest and intimate conversation with your partner can be intimidating. Oftentimes more so than talking with a stranger. There is a level of vulnerability that exists with closer relationships.
  • Immature honesty is typically based in complaining, shaming, and a closed mind.
  • Mature honesty is being open to talk about something, even when you have discomfort around the subject.
  • Shana’s expanded definition of what sex actually is: exploration, play, coming together with a person- emotionally, physically and energetically. Don’t limit it to intercourse.
  • Focus on the connection and enjoying, rather than the end result. While an orgasm is wonderful, it isn’t the only thing to focus on.
  • Avoiding these conversations will lead to stagnancy. Getting through the difficult conversations will get you through the discomfort and lead to a wonderful place.
  • Consider having a debriefing conversation after sex. Don’t ask “what didn’t work,” ask what they liked and what they want more of.
  • What is intimacy?
  • How to become “more alive” both individually, and as a couple.

Episode 183: Do Moms Enjoy The Holidays?

32 min
View

Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week!

This week: Do Moms Enjoy The Holidays?

  • Moms tend to be the creators of magic for the holidays for others to enjoy. This often means being too busy to enjoy them.
  • Try to be less of a perfectionist- everything WON’T be done. And that is O.K.
  • The added stress can lead to hating the holidays. We don’t want that! What can we do differently?
  • Remember to look around and take in everyone’s enjoyment. The hard work is worth it! You are creating a lifetime of memories for your family.
  • Remember it is a labor of love to build and follow traditions and create special memories.
  • It is ok to take a break and create short cuts. Is takeout an option? What is the most important to you?
  • Have perspective and gratitude. Stress will be less if you appreciate what you are able to do.
  • Set boundaries. What are your limits, and what is good enough?
  • Embrace “Good Enough!”
  • Ask yourself, “What do I enjoy?” when it comes to creating your holiday to-do list. Skip at least one thing that does not bring you joy.
  • Be more mindful of what you say yes to.
  • DELEGATE! Involve your family and give them jobs to help you out.
  • Create a plan well in advance. Allow yourself time to get things done a bit earlier so you are not rushing and exhausted when company arrives.

Julie Emerson takes us on her healing journey as she recovers from an eating disorder. From overweight to scary-skinny, and the journey to self-love.

Listen to this insightful Whinypaluza episode with Julie Emerson about her journey and healing from an eating disorder.

Here is what to expect on this week’s show:

  • The unhealthy emotional connection to food started as early as when she was 6 years old.
  • Binging and late-night eating started at the age of 9. The dieting started at 19.
  • People were not vocal about their concerns when she was overweight.
  • Dieting became a high that she rode- weight loss was the thrill.
  • “Exercise bulimia” was a part of her life- eating too much and immediately doing a lot of cardio.
  •  Binging and purging eventually made their way into her life in her 20s.
  • The binging and purging lasted for years.
  • Binging and purging became a coping mechanism and comfort when confronted with turmoil in her life.
  • It is difficult to approach a loved one when they see someone going through an eating disorder. They don’t know what to say or how to approach it.
  • Julie’s advice if you see someone struggling is to let them know you are there for them, and they have a place to fall if they get to a really bad place. Asking the simple question, “Is everything o.k.?” can be very impactful.
  • It is ok to say you are not ok. It is ok to say you need help. Start with saying it to yourself.
  • The road to healing and recovery does not have to start with a major moment. It can be as simple as just making the choice to change and taking it one day at a time.
  • Start small. An elaborate plan can often be more than you can handle.
  • When you know your triggers, take time to stop and breathe before you act.
  • Remember that you don’t need to be everything to everyone all the time. Take time for you. Take care of yourself.
  • Overcoming an eating disorder is like overcoming an addiction. The difference is we need food to live. Learning how to be around food and partake in a healthy way is very difficult.
  • There is powerful wisdom in the Serenity Prayer.
  • The challenge of learning to be comfortable with her body and with food, and being ok with the certainty that she would have to gain weight.
  • The journey to healing is a rollercoaster, but hopefully always moving forward.
  • Playing games with how and when you eat and using it as something to control is a sign that you have an unhealthy relationship with food. Food is fuel. Learn to listen to your body.
  • Educating your children and not creating negativity around food is the foundation to ensuring they don’t develop eating disorders. Create healthy boundaries and teach them how to best fuel their bodies for their personal activity level.
  • Create some healthy boundaries with food, but don’t forget to allow yourself or your kids to indulge in junk on occasion. The lure of the forbidden can cause problems down the road.
  • Your kids see and hear you, make sure you model healthy behavior.
  • If you see a sudden shift in your children, address it immediately and head-on.
  • Julie’s advice for anyone struggling with food. Start small. Start now.
  • Grant yourself forgiveness and focus on the path forward.
